DOOM: The Dark Ages reportedly coming to Switch 2, though Nintendo is blocking the announcement

28 janvier 2025 à 16:00

During the recent Xbox Developer Direct, Microsoft and id Software offered a deep-dive look into the upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages while also announcing its official release date. Interestingly, one system absent from the list of support consoles was Nintendo’s Switch. According to one insider the game is planned to come to Switch 2, but Nintendo is currently blocking the announcement.

Taking to Twitter, known industry insider eXtas1s claimed that the upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages is planned to come to Switch 2, despite no official announcement yet.

According to the leaker (as translated by ResetEra user ‘Aspect’) “The game, which is in full development for the next-generation machine, is being deliberately withheld. Nintendo has not given the green light to all its partners to present their titles, especially those that would be exclusive to the Switch 2.”

DOOM: The Dark Ages Nintendo

Offering a bit more on this current embargo of sorts, eXtas1s claimed that “any game exclusive to the Switch 2 requires special permission from Nintendo before it can be announced. This would be a strategy to control the hype and prevent leaks until the company decides to reveal more official technical information about its new console.”

Both DOOM and DOOM Eternal released on the original Nintendo Switch via ‘miracle ports’, despite the console being woefully underpowered – especially by the time Eternal released.

Given the fact that the prior two games came to Nintendo (and that Phil Spencer has openly discussed bringing Xbox titles to the Switch 2), an official announcement is only a matter of time. It will be interesting to see whether the Switch 2 arrives before or after DOOM’s launch in May.

The launch of the AI chatbot DeepSeek wiped $1tn off the value of US tech stocks. That should worry even this overhyped and self-satisfied twosome

They say your enemy’s enemy is your friend. Sometimes, however, your enemy’s enemy is a little twerp who is almost as bad as your enemy. Rather than creating a strategic alliance, the best thing to do is sit back and watch the pair of them tear each other apart.

What am I talking about? I am talking about the public spat between Elon Musk and Sam Altman, two of the world’s most powerful, overhyped and self-satisfied men. Musk and Altman co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but Musk left a few years later and has been calling Altman, the company’s CEO, names such as “Swindly Sam” ever since.

DOOM: The Dark Ages launches this May

24 janvier 2025 à 09:00

Microsoft’s Developer Direct has now come and gone, with the Xbox console maker showing off a number of its upcoming games as well as a few surprises. One game which was promised to be at the event was DOOM: The Dark Ages. Sure enough, ID Software’s upcoming FPS made an appearance with 10 minutes of new footage – as well as the game’s release date.

Sharing a 10 minute deep-dive into the upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages, the team at ID Software highlighted many of the mechanics set to come to the threequel, including a focus on projectile-based combat and a nifty new shield.

Of course, the big news from the deep-dive was DOOM: The Dark Ages’ release date. While it did leak slightly ahead of time, the team officially confirmed that the game will arrive for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on the 15th of May.

It's been quite a few years since ID Software’s DOOM: Eternal, and while the changes made to its gameplay didn’t necessarily resonate with everyone, it’s cool to see the team continue to innovate on what it means to be a modern DOOM game.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the Developer Direct? What was your favourite showing? Will The Dark Ages be a day-one buy for you? Let us know down below.
