Final Fantasy VII Part 3 will arrive before the PS6, Square Enix confirms

24 janvier 2025 à 19:00

After MANY years in development, we finally got the first part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake back in 2020 for the PlayStation 4. This then necessitated a PS5 upgrade when the next-gen console launched later that same year. With FFVII Rebirth releasing just under a year ago, fans have been concerned that they might be waiting until the PS6 for the trilogy to conclude. Fortunately, this won’t be the case.

With Final Fantasy VII Rebirth now out on PC, the team at Square Enix have begun to look ahead to the future 3rd and final entry in this remake trilogy.

In an interview conducted by the Japanese publication Famitsu (and translated by Eurogamer), Final Fantasy series producer Yoshinori Kitase offered an update on the current development status of FFVII Remake part 3, claiming that work on the story is now complete, stating: “I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure the fans will be satisfied with the final chapter.”

Final Fantasy VII

Beyond this, in another interview (this time with 4Gamer and translated by VGC), Kitase was informed of concerns from fans that the final entry in the trilogy could arrive as late as the PS6 generation. Qualming these fears, the producer simply stated “No, you can rest assured about the next one.”

Given just how long it took for Square Enix to bring Final Fantasy VII Remake to fruition, it is a welcome surprise to see the team’s commitment to getting the full trilogy out as soon as possible.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for FFVII Remake part 3? What do you think it will be called? When do you expect the final entry to be released? Let us know down below.

Guilty Gear Strive officially surpasses 3 million copies sold

24 janvier 2025 à 18:00

First released back in 2021 for PlayStation and PC, Guilty Gear Strive is the latest entry in the long-running and much loved 2.5D fighting series from Arc System Works. In the years since, the game has found its way to additional platforms – with Xbox players receiving Strive in 2023 – and now the Switch. In alignment with this latest launch, Arc System Works have shared updated sales figures for Guilty Gear Strive.

As part of the Guilty Gear Strive Nintendo Switch launch trailer, the team at Arc System works revealed that the fighting game had reached a new milestone of over 3 million copies sold.

For context, while the team did previously share the news that Strive had surpassed 3 million players, its addition to Game Pass meant that concrete unit sales could not be determined at the time.

That said, the explicit use of the term ‘selling 3 million copies’ removes any ambiguity, and means that Strive has officially sold 3x more units than any other entry in the Guilty Gear series.

With Strive now available on Switch – and the likes of Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners set to join the roster later this year – it seems as though the game still has plenty more runway to reach even higher heights.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Guilty Gear Strive? Is it the best entry in the series? Will the game surpass 5 million copies sold? Let us know down below.

Crash Bandicoot 4 reportedly coming to Game Pass next month

24 janvier 2025 à 17:00

Ever since Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, we’ve seen the console maker slowly but surely bring over the publisher’s back catalogue to its Game Pass subscription service. Following the likes of Call of Duty, Diablo and Spyro, Crash Bandicoot 4 is reportedly set to finally join Game Pass next month.

As reported by known industry leakers Insider-Gaming, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass line-up for February has been partially revealed, with the publication claiming:

“Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will be one of the major titles releasing coming to Xbox Game Pass in February alongside Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed and other announced titles such as Far Cry New Dawn.”

Crash Bandicoot Game Pass

Beyond this, Madden NFL 25 will reportedly also arrive on the service at some point in February. Of course, each month Microsoft adds well over a dozen titles to Game Pass (with January seeing around 20 new games) and so the full line-up should be much more comprehensive.

Still, with just how long it took for the acquisition of Activision to be completed, it is somewhat surprising to see these older titles taking this much time to be added.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the sneak peek for next month’s line-up? Should Crash 4 have been added already? Do you care about Madden NFL? Let us know down below.

PlayStation 5’s US lifetime sales outpace PS4 as Series X|S trails behind the Xbox One

24 janvier 2025 à 16:00

While its unit sales were initially hampered by global shortages and other pandemic-related issues, the past few years have seen Sony selling PS5s out the wazoo – more than making up for the time lost during 2020-21. 4 years on from its launch and the PS5 is reportedly outpacing last generation’s PlayStation 4 in the US. Unfortunately, it seems the same can’t be said for the Xbox Series X|S.

As reported by industry analyst Mat Piscatella, in the 50 months since both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launched, US sales for Sony’s system have been outpacing that of the PS4 – currently 7% ahead of their last-gen machine (launch-aligned).

Given the fact that the PS4 went on to sell over 117 million units globally, seeing growth in this regard is nothing but good news for the console maker.

PlayStation
Series

Unfortunately, despite the fact that the Xbox One generation of consoles fell far behind that of the PS4, the Series X|S has reportedly failed to even match its own previous standard, with Piscatella revealing that Series X|S is currently trailing behind the Xbox One by a not-so-insignificant 18%.

Of course, the video games market expands far beyond just the USA, but with it being one of the strongest regions for Xbox historically, this drop in sales is somewhat concerning.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the figures shared? Are you surprised by Xbox’s drop? Will the PlayStation 5 outsell the PS4 when all is said and done? Let us know down below.

Sonic x Shadow Generations has sold 2 million copies

24 janvier 2025 à 11:00

The Sonic series has had its ups and downs over the past many years, but the Blue Blur seems to be on a bit of a hot streak at the moment; having recently released the remaster/expansion Sonic x Shadow Generations to immediate sales success. Since its arrival in October 2024, the game has continued to sell well – now surpassing 2 million total copies.

As reported by the publication Gematsu, SEGA has now confirmed that Sonic x Shadow Generations has officially sold over 2 million copies since its launch back in late October.

For content, the game was reported to have surpassed 1 million total sales within the first 24 hours. This figure was then updated to 1.5 million within its first month on the market, meaning Sonic x Shadow Generations’ sales did indeed see a significant drop in the time since.

Sonic x Shadow Generations

Even so, the game’s success is notable, especially as it was primarily a remaster of a game from 2011 (which had already sold over 6 million copies).

With it now abundantly clear that there is great fan interest in SEGA bringing back Sonic’s older adventures to modern systems, hopefully we see the likes of Unleashed, Heroes and more be remastered in the not-too-distant future.

KitGuru says: What did you think of Sonic x Shadow Generations? Was it a worthy remaster? What other Sonic titles would you like to see modernised next? Let us know down below.

Ninja Gaiden 4 announced, coming later this year

24 janvier 2025 à 10:00

Prior to its premiere, Microsoft’s Developer Direct was stated to have a couple extra surprises in store, outside of its previously-announced deep-dives for the likes of DOOM and South of Midnight. With the showcase concluded, it has now been confirmed that this surprise was in fact a brand new entry in the much-loved Ninja Gaiden series – coming sooner than you’d think.

Making the surprise announcement during the Xbox Developer Direct, Microsoft confirmed that the long-dormant franchise will be returning later this year with the release of Ninja Gaiden 4, saying:

“The definitive ninja action-adventure franchise returns with NINJA GAIDEN 4! Embark on a cutting-edge adventure where legacy meets innovation in a high-octane blend of style and no-holds-barred combat.”

Set to be published by Xbox Games Studios themselves (and coming as a day-one Game Pass drop), this latest entry in the classic hack and slash series will be co-developed by spectacle fighter specialists ‘PlatinumGames’ alongside Team Ninja themselves.

Most surprisingly, Ninja Gaiden 4 is slated to release later this year, some time during Fall 2025 – meaning the teams managed to keep this under wraps for quite a while now.

Finally, it’s worth noting that while the game is set to be published by Xbox, and will be coming day-one to Game Pass, Ninja Gaiden 4 will be a multiplatform release.

PlatinumGames’ track record has been somewhat hit or miss in recent years, however, there is no denying that the team know how to make great looking melee action. Hopefully this marks a grand return for this long-dormant franchise.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the surprise announcement? Did you expect it to be Ninja Gaiden? What are your thoughts on PlatinumGames co-developing? Let us know down below.

DOOM: The Dark Ages launches this May

24 janvier 2025 à 09:00

Microsoft’s Developer Direct has now come and gone, with the Xbox console maker showing off a number of its upcoming games as well as a few surprises. One game which was promised to be at the event was DOOM: The Dark Ages. Sure enough, ID Software’s upcoming FPS made an appearance with 10 minutes of new footage – as well as the game’s release date.

Sharing a 10 minute deep-dive into the upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages, the team at ID Software highlighted many of the mechanics set to come to the threequel, including a focus on projectile-based combat and a nifty new shield.

Of course, the big news from the deep-dive was DOOM: The Dark Ages’ release date. While it did leak slightly ahead of time, the team officially confirmed that the game will arrive for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on the 15th of May.

It's been quite a few years since ID Software’s DOOM: Eternal, and while the changes made to its gameplay didn’t necessarily resonate with everyone, it’s cool to see the team continue to innovate on what it means to be a modern DOOM game.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the Developer Direct? What was your favourite showing? Will The Dark Ages be a day-one buy for you? Let us know down below.

DON’T NOD’s ‘Lost Records’ gets new details and release date

23 janvier 2025 à 18:00

Since their handing over of the Life is Strange series to Deck Nine, DON’T NOD have experimented with a variety of different projects across multiple new IPs. Their latest endeavour – Lost Records: Bloom & Rage – which was slated to arrive in early 2025 has now gotten a bunch of new details including an updated release date.

Making the announcement via a press release, the team at DON’T NOD officially shared all the necessary launch details for Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, saying:

“Lost Records: Bloom & Rage will be priced at 39,99€/$39.99/£35.89 upon release including both parts of the game – ‘Bloom’ and ‘Rage’ – which add up to roughly 10-12 hours of gameplay.”

As was previously announced, the first part of the game will launch on the 18th of February. That said, players will have to wait a bit longer for part 2 with the team sharing that “to optimize the experience for players and enhance the storytelling for a truly immersive continuation of the journey, the release of Tape 2 ‘Rage’ has slightly be (sic) pushed back to April 15, 2025.”

Since leaving the Life is Strange series behind, DON’T NOD has struggled somewhat to find its footing. That said, with Lost Records: Bloom & Rage looking like a nice blend of old and new, hopefully the team have found their new identity.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to Lost Records? Will you play the episodes on release or wait until both parts are out? Let us know down below.

Insomniac Games founder Ted Price retires from studio

23 janvier 2025 à 17:00

30 years ago, Ted Price founded Insomniac Games. In the decades since, the studio has created many iconic franchises, from Spyro the Dragon to Ratchet and Clank – and most recently the Marvel’s Spider-Man games. After leading the studio for more than 30 years, Price has now announced his retirement.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog, the Insomniac Games founder and CEO officially announced his retirement, saying “despite a challenging 2024, Insomniacs stayed fully focused on building games for our fans. As a result of the team's persistence and collaboration, we're in one of the strongest positions we've experienced in years, with each game in development looking beautiful and playing fantastic.”

Price continued, “Therefore, last week, I felt comfortable announcing to the Insomniac team that after having been incredibly fortunate to enjoy such a fulfilling career in games, I'll be retiring from the industry at the end of March. Today, I'm sharing this news more broadly.”

Insomniac Games
Price

The full blog post is lengthy and goes into greater depth on what this means for Insomniac Games moving forward.

In essence, as we’ve seen with a couple other PlayStation studios, Insomniac will now be managed by multiple leads, with Chad Dezern, Jen Huang and Ryan Schneider all taking up the mantle as co-heads of the studio. Hopefully Ted Price gets to enjoy his well-earned retirement.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the announcement? Does this change anything for Insomniac Games, or will it be business as usual? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Capcom’s iOS ports continue to underperform as Resident Evil 2 brings in just $102k

23 janvier 2025 à 16:00

Apple took a big swing with their iPhone 15 series of phones, introducing a renewed focus on gaming with the announcement of iOS ports for a number of major AAA titles. Unfortunately, all of these games, including multiple Resident Evil releases, underperformed pretty significantly. It seems little has changed in the months since, with Capcom’s latest mobile port for RE2 Remake reportedly bringing in just over $100k.

As reported by MobileGamer.biz, the latest AAA title to come to iOS – Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 Remake – has brought in just over $100,000 since it launched on the platform back in December of last year.

According to the publication, during the game’s first 4 weeks on sale (in which it was discounted heavily to just $10), RE2 Remake brought in a total of $95K from 9500 purchases (via Appmagic).

Resident Evil iOS

In the week since, the game has seen these modest sales figures drop significantly, with the return to its full $40 price tag having tempted just 175 additional players – for an extra $7k in revenue.

While it’s impressive to see these modern AAA games running on a smartphone, it seems as though a majority of players aren’t comfortable enough yet to switch to mobile as their gaming platform of choice. Perhaps in time this will change.

KitGuru says: Are you surprised by the performance of these ports? Do you think Capcom expected higher sales for these games? Could AAA gaming be viable on a smartphone? Let us know your thoughts down below.

New ‘SEGA Account’ initiative announced with free in-game rewards

23 janvier 2025 à 15:30

SEGA’s been on a bit of a hot streak in recent years, with the publisher releasing a ton of critically acclaimed and strong-performing titles including but not limited to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Metaphor: ReFantazio and even Sonic x Shadow Generations. Wanting to capitalise on its ongoing success, the publisher has now unveiled its new ‘SEGA Account’ initiative.

Available to sign up for right now, the publisher's new account system will offer “a profile that lets you maximize SEGA's online services and offers a ton of benefits,” adding that “anyone can sign up, and it's free to use!”

As of right now, account holders can “take part in promotions with incredible rewards!” however SEGA also promised that in the future you’ll also be able to view your stats and records across the publisher’s various titles.

SEGA
Account

Currently, those who sign up for an account can – between now and the 7th of March  – redeem the ‘Kazuma Kiryu Special Outfit DLC’ to be used in their upcoming title: Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

This isn’t the first time that SEGA has given away such in-game items, with many past Sonic titles offering some freebies for signing up to their newsletter.

That said, this seems to be a much more intuitive way to reward fans of the publisher. Hopefully the service improves with time.

KitGuru says: What do you think of reward systems such as this? Will you sign up for a SEGA account? Let us know down below.

8 games will be leaving PlayStation Plus next month

23 janvier 2025 à 11:00

Each month, Sony updates its PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium libraries with a new line-up of titles. Similarly, every month a number of games are also removed from the service. With God of War Ragnarök, Like a Dragon Gaiden and more recently being added, Sony has now announced exactly which games will be leaving soon.

In going to the PlayStation Plus tab on your PS5, you’ll find a list of 8 titles under the ‘Last Chance to Play’ section. Leaving the service at some point in February (likely mid-month) are the following:

  • The Outer Worlds: Spacers Choice Edition
  • Tales of Arise
  • Tales of Zestiria
  • Tales of Symphonia Remastered
  • Tales of Vesperia
  • Outriders
  • Scarlet Nexus
  • Bulletstorn

PlayStation Plus

While a shorter list of departees than some months, fans of the Tales of series will be disappointed to see so many of the franchise’s entries set to be removed – especially the most recent release: Tales of Arise.

As mentioned however, the blow of these losses are somewhat alleviated by the recent additions to PS Plus Extra/Premium, including the likes of God of War: Ragnarök; Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name; Citizen Sleeper; Sayonara Wild Hearts and more. The full list of games added can be found HERE.

KitGuru says: Are you disappointed by the list of titles leaving? Will you try to squeeze in a playthrough of any of these games before they’re gone? What’s your favourite ‘Tales of’ entry? Let us know down below.

Witcher 3 10th anniversary world tour concert announced

23 janvier 2025 à 10:00

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, generally agreed upon as being one of the best Western RPGs perhaps of all time. One of the game’s strongest aspects is of course its music. In celebration of the game’s 10th birthday, a Witcher Concert will be touring Europe later this year – tickets for which have now gone live.

Throughout the month of November 2025, fans of The Witcher 3 will be able to experience “a one-of-a-kind live event that transforms the lasting legacy and emotional storytelling of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt into an immersive concert.”

Described as featuring “an innovative blend of cutting-edge visuals & gameplay from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt combined with a stirring orchestral performance,” the concert will take fans on “an immersive emotional tour through the game’s story brought to life with traditional and modern instruments.”

Witcher 3 10th

The Witcher: In Concert will kick off its tour in London on the 5th November, followed by a second UK showing – this time in Manchester – on the 7th. The tour will then move on to the rest of Europe, so if you were hoping to attend, you might want to make sure to grab some tickets.

The Witcher 3’s OST is iconic and beautiful, and to hear it performed live by folk band Percival in-concert would be an amazing experience.

“A few other surprises” to be announced during Xbox Direct, according to insider

22 janvier 2025 à 18:00

Tomorrow, Microsoft will be going live with its Xbox Developer Direct, in which the console maker is said to be showing off 4 titles in total – including DOOM: The Dark Ages and South of Midnight. According to one insider, Microsoft is keeping its cards close to its chest, with “a few other surprises” said to be announced during the event.

Ahead of the premiere of the Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday the 23rd (6PM UK Time), industry leakers ‘Insider-Gaming’ have revealed some of the announcements set to be made during the showcase.

Alongside the release date for DOOM: The Dark Ages – which is supposedly planned to arrive on the 15th of May – Insider-Gaming has reported that:

“As well as the four game announcements, a few other surprises will be announced during the event or in the coming days.”

Xbox Developer Direct

Microsoft has been known to offer a surprise announcement or two during its previous Xbox Developer Directs. That said, given the fact that the 4th game has remained shrouded in mystery so far, it is interesting to see that they also have ANOTHER surprise in store.

We won’t have to wait long to find out what exactly this is.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for the Developer Direct? Which of the 3 announced titles are you most interested in? What do you think this ‘surprise’ could be? Let us know down below.

Mortal Kombat 1 tracks behind MK11 with ‘just’ 5 million copies sold so far

22 janvier 2025 à 17:00

Contrary to its prior release schedule, NetherRealm went straight from MK11 to Mortal Kombat 1 – skipping their previous cadence of breaking up Mortal Kombat releases with a new Injustice game. This seems to have worked against the series, as following the record-breaking release of MK11, Mortal Kombat 1 has so far ‘only’ managed to sell 5 million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the head of NetherRealm Studios – Ed Boon – shared some details on future updates for Mortal Kombat 1. Alongside this, Boon also offered some details on the sales performance for MK1, stating:

“With over 5 million games sold, seeing Mortal Kombat 1 still in the top 15 most played Playstation 5 games makes us very grateful to Mortal Kombat fans. Thanks for continuing to support NetherRealm Studios games!”

Mortal Kombat 1 MK11

While pitched as a positive, 5 million copies sold is a major drop-off when compared to the previous entry – Mortal Kombat 11 – which managed to break 15 million sales in its first 3 years on the market.

Of course, 2023’s MK1 hasn’t been out long enough for a direct 1:1 comparison, but with future DLC for the game having been cancelled already,  the game is unlikely to have majorly long legs.

The general sentiment around Mortal Kombat 1 seems to be that NetherRealm was a bit premature with its release – and it seems the game’s sales are reflecting this fact.

It will be interesting to see what NetherRealm plans to work on next. Hopefully not another Mortal Kombat (at least for now).

KitGuru says: What do you think of Mortal Kombat 1? Is it a worthy sequel to MK11? What do you think NetherRealm’s next game will be? Let us know down below.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film arrives in March 2027

22 janvier 2025 à 16:00

While the initial trailer for the first Sonic the Hedgehog film introduced a hideous character redesign sparking a ton of backlash, the final product proved to be a major success for SEGA and Paramount Pictures. Since then, we’ve gotten two sequels and a spin-off TV show – all of which have been received well both critically and commercially. It therefore comes as little surprise that a 4th Sonic film is now on its way – set to premiere in March of 2027.

Ahead of the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, SEGA and Paramount announced that a 4th entry had been greenlit, with a tentative release year set for some time in 2027.

Work on Sonic 4 seems to be progressing pretty rapidly, with the distributors having now announced that the 4th entry in this film franchise will arrive on the 19th of March 2027 – a little over two years on from Sonic 3’s December 2024 release date.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2027

For context, while none of the Sonic movies have been major box office blowouts, each film has been able to maintain a strong and consistent financial return.

2020’s Sonic 1 managed to bring in $320 million, followed up by 2022’s Sonic 2 ($405 million) – and last but not least Sonic 3 has so far earned $422 million (though the film is still currently showing in cinemas).

Given just how much backlash there was upon the initial announcement of the original Sonic the Hedgehog film, it is both surprising and welcome to see the series become a major and successful film franchise. Hopefully the quality of releases remain solid and consistent for all future titles.

KitGuru says: Have you watched Sonic the Hedgehog 3? What did you think of the film? What Sonic game do you hope to see the 4th film be inspired by? Let us know down below.

Twice a month, Microsoft updates its Xbox Game Pass library with a line-up of new/returning titles. Following the addition of Diablo, UFC 5 and My Time at Sandrock, the second set of Game Pass titles dropping throughout the rest of January has now been announced.

While the first half of January saw a relatively modest line-up of titles added to Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft seems to be upping the ante for the second half of the month, with a total of 14 games dropping over the next week and a bit – the full list of which can be viewed below:

  • Anuchard
  • Broforce Forever
  • Darkest Dungeon
  • Death’s Door
  • Maquette
  • Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem

While the first half of the month was somewhat disappointing for Game Pass subscribers, Microsoft seems to be making up for it now, with a major drop of games coming across both Game Pass Standard and Ultimate. Hopefully they keep this up for the rest of the year.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the line-up? Which of the day-one additions will you be hopping into first? Let us know down below.

Balatro hits new sales milestone of over 5 million copies

22 janvier 2025 à 11:00

Developed by a single person, Balatro is a unique poker-themed rogue-like deckbuilder which hooked many players upon its initial release back in February of this year. Since then, the game has only grown in popularity – with its Game of the Year nomination seemingly helping to push Balatro past 5 million total copies sold.

Following the announcement of its Game of the Year nomination during the 2024 Game Awards, Balatro saw a major spike in players – reaching new heights on mobile app stores while also continuing to sell more units across the board.

Just one month on from the announcement that the game had sold 3.5 million copies, the Balatro team have revealed that the title has already hit another major milestone of 5 million units, saying:

“The last few weeks have been pretty wild. To everyone who picked up Balatro after seeing it at @thegameawards, we hope you're having an amazing time with it! If this is your first time picking up an indie title, try to make it a habit! There's some amazing stuff out there!”

As noted by the developers themselves, much of the recent uptick in sales seems to be as a result of its aforementioned GOTY nomination – and so it will be interesting to see how the game continues to perform from this point onwards.

Regardless, Balatro is an excellent game and so it will likely have reached this milestone figure with or without the added attention from The Game Awards – but the accolades certainly do help.

Microsoft announces translucent red ‘Pulse Cipher’ Special Edition Xbox controller

22 janvier 2025 à 10:00

Throughout the current console generation, Microsoft has released a ton of different custom and unique Xbox Series X|S controllers. Joining the line-up next is the Pulse Cipher Special Edition controller – featuring a throwback translucent design.

Making the announcement on the Xbox Wire Blog, Brianna Lowder – the Marketing Manager for Xbox Accessories – said “Introducing the newest iteration of the Cipher series, Xbox Wireless Controller – Pulse Cipher Special Edition! Like its predecessors, Sky Cipher and Ghost Cipher, Pulse Cipher provides players with a nostalgic transparent look infused with a futuristic twist. Despite being third in the series, this controller is special in its own right.”

Set to arrive in early February, those interested can go ahead and preorder the controller right now for £69.99 – slightly more costly than a standard controller (£59.99 RRP). That said, there’s no denying that by now Xbox has a strong line-up of special edition controllers.

Of course for a relatively basic video game controller, £70 is a pretty penny to spend – especially as the accessory does not include gyro aiming, advanced haptics or anything of the sorts.

Still, for those who miss the classic days of transparent controllers during the PS2/Xbox era, the red Cipher special edition should more than scratch that itch when it arrives next month.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this latest controller? Do you like translucent tech? Are Xbox controllers worth their asking price? Let us know down below.

Halo, Starfield, Elden Ring and more reportedly coming to Switch 2

21 janvier 2025 à 19:00

With the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware now having been officially announced, attention has shifted to the software side of things, with many fans wondering what kind of support the console could see from studios across the industry. According to one insider, many last and current gen titles are slated for the Switch 2, including Starfield, Elden Ring, Tekken 8 and more.

As reported by known insider eXtas1s (and translated by IcePopsicleDragon), Microsoft is set to bring a ton of its current and prior games to the Switch 2 following the system’s arrival later this year.

According to the insider, the list of Microsoft titles confirmed to be coming at some point include:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
  • Halo The Master Chief Collection
  • Diablo IV
  • Call of Duty (unspecified)
  • Fallout 4
  • Starfield

Switch 2 Starfield

Beyond this, eXtas1s name-dropped a couple more games also planned for the Switch 2, this time coming from Bandai Namco:

  • Tekken 8 (DLC included)
  • Elden Ring

We recently reported on another insider who claimed that “basically every third party is considering supporting [Switch 2] with its most ambitious AAA titles.”

While perhaps not the most ambitious, many of the games listed above would certainly have struggled on the OG Switch, and so it will be interesting to see just how widespread 3rd-party support actually winds up being – especially in the long term.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard director leaves Bioware after 18 years at EA

21 janvier 2025 à 17:00

Dragon Age: The Veilguard had a tumultuous development, with the RPG seeing a bunch of delays, unexpected issues and external factors leading to the title finally launching almost a decade after development began. That said, Bioware managed to get the game past the finish line thanks in part to director Corinne Busche – who has now announced her departure from the studio.

As reported by Eurogamer, Corinne Busche – who took over as director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2022 following a string of departures – is leaving Bioware after spending more than 18 years working with and under EA.

In a statement sent to Eurogamer, Busche confirmed the departure and offered some reasons for doing so, claiming “at the heart of it, this was about my own fulfillment. I did what I set out to do at BioWare. That is to come in and help right the ship. I love Dragon Age, and BioWare, so the chance to return the game to a proper quality single player RPG was the privilege of a lifetime.”

She continued, “It was hard fought, as games with such tumultuous dev cycles rarely end up shipping, and even more rarely turn out great. We, as a team, did it. And it was hard. It took a toll on me. BioWare still has a lot of work to do culturally, but I do believe they are on the right footing now.”

In terms of where she’s going next, Busche concluded by saying “As for me, my departure was voluntary, as I have been presented with an opportunity I couldn't turn down. I don’t want to say much more right now, but you can count on it being in the CRPG space and upholding the traditions of great characters.”

Considering the MANY issues Dragon Age: The Veilguard encountered over its decade-long development cycle, the final product wound up better than perhaps would have been expected. It will be interesting to see where Busche is headed next.

New ESRB rating hints at multiple Resident Evil remasters

21 janvier 2025 à 16:00

If there’s anything that Capcom likes doing, it's re-releasing older Resident Evil games to modern consoles. Be it through remasters, remakes or simple ports, you’d be hard pressed to find a console which doesn’t include Capcom’s best-selling franchise. It seems this trend will continue, with new ESRB ratings having popped up for multiple older RE titles.

As reported by VGC, the ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) recently published a new listing for Resident Evil 6 coming to the Xbox Series consoles.

Since then, more listings have been uncovered, including for the likes of the Resident Evil Origins Collections (RE1+0); RE4 and most curiously Resident Evil 7.

ESRB Resident Evil

All of these games are of course playable on both the Xbox Series X|S and PS5, however – aside from RE7 – the games are all backwards compatible versions of their 8th-gen releases; and so it would perhaps be nice to have full 4K60fps upgrades for these titles.

We will have to wait and see what Capcom’s plans wind up being.

Nintendo Switch to get one final “big game” according to insider

21 janvier 2025 à 13:00

With the Switch 2 finally almost here, owners of the current system have begun to wonder what titles Nintendo has left in store for their current aging console. According to an insider, the company has one final “big game” planned for the OG system before it’ll be laid to rest.

As reported by known industry insider PHBrazil, with the Switch 2 now having been officially unveiled, Nintendo is looking to sunset their current console with one final “big game.”

No specifics were given on what title exactly this will be, but PHBrazil did tease the fact that it is a somewhat big game from a more niche franchise and will be presented as “a new version of a beloved series” – so seemingly a remaster/remake of sorts.

Of course, the OG Switch still has plenty of games planned for release, including Nintendo’s own Metroid Prime 4, but in terms of new game announcements, it seems the company has just one final card up its sleeve. In other news, a bunch of 3rd-party games have been leaked for Switch 2, the list of which can be found HERE.
