Rashford has heart set on Barcelona but deal rests on exits from La Liga club

31 janvier 2025 à 09:49
  • Rashford has rejected teams including Tottenham
  • Manchester United keen on Mathys Tel as replacement

Marcus Rashford has his heart set on a loan move to Barcelona before Monday’s transfer deadline but a deal will go through only if the Catalan club can offload up to two players.

Rashford has rejected offers from several other clubs including Tottenham because of his determination to join Barcelona. Under La Liga’s squad cost limit rules Barcelona will have to generate funds to be able to spend the money required to sign Rashford from Manchester United. They are prepared in principle to cover most or all of Rashford’s £375,000-a-week salary.

Premier League: 10 things to look out for this weekend

31 janvier 2025 à 01:01

There’s a huge game at Bournemouth, a huge game at Arsenal and … er, a huge game at Portman Road

Nuno Espírito Santo said that at Bournemouth last weekend, where they were humbled 5-0, his Nottingham Forest side had been “not accurate and missed a lot of passes”. It is interesting that four of Forest’s last five – and five of their last eight – Premier League games rank in their bottom eight of the season on pass completion. “We have to perform much better,” he said. “We have to be more solid and play better football. We have so many things to improve.” Though results in that period, at least until last week, continued to be good they have relied on statistically unlikely displays of finishing prowess. Before their trip to Bournemouth, Forest had scored with nine of their previous 12 shots on target in all competitions and the last time a Chris Wood shot on target failed to go in was before Christmas. Both Nuno and Fabian Hürzeler were sent off for misconduct during a rancorous conclusion to the fixture between these sides at the Amex Stadium last September. Simon Burnton

Harrison Ford’s MCU debut can wait. I prefer his whisky ads

30 janvier 2025 à 12:16

Yes he’s about to be Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, but a YouTube series featuring the Hollywood star being grumpy in Scotland is the best thing he’s done for years

In the next few weeks, Harrison Ford will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in Captain America: Brave New World as both the president of the United States and Red Hulk. However, the film is shaping up to be a critical and commercial flop – maybe even the biggest Marvel flop yet – and so it makes sense that Ford would want to quickly move on to his next project.

And now we know what that project is. This week a number of videos appeared on the YouTube channel of the Scottish whisky brand Glenmorangie, taking the form of a semi-fictional six-part series about the adventures of Harrison Ford in Scotland. Joel Edgerton directed the adverts. They’re set in the Traitors castle. It’s all quite hard to comprehend.

Chris Selley: Dangers are lurking in Doug Ford’s Ontario election experiment

29 janvier 2025 à 13:00
Vote Tory to stop Trump’s tariffs: that’s the basic message Ontario Premier Doug Ford was sending voters as he prepared to trigger the province’s 44th general election, dissolving the legislature on Tuesday just two-and-a-half years into his second majority government. Ford said he needs “the largest mandate in Ontario’s history” to stand up to the president’s threats, and if those threats come good, to “invest tens of billions of dollars in unplanned spending and make tough choices.” Read More
