Ori series surpasses 15 million copies sold

12 mars 2025 à 14:30

Moon Studios' critically acclaimed Ori series has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 15 million copies sold across Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

Thomas Mahler, the series' director, celebrated this achievement on social media, noting that it's “not too shabby” for a genre that many considered dead when development of the first game started. Funny enough, Steam now receives new metroidvania games every week or so, and in part, that could be explained by how Ori revitalised the genre.

Adding to this accomplishment, Mahler revealed that these sales figures do not include players who experienced the games through Xbox Game Pass. As such, the game has likely been played by well over the 15 million players who've bought it.

In other news, Moon Studios has announced its independence following months of negotiations with what remains of Private Division. The studio is now focusing on its action RPG, No Rest for the Wicked, which is currently in early access. The announcement was made during a recent Wicked Inside Showcase, where the studio revealed what's coming to its latest game.

The studio unveiled the game's upcoming update, “The Breach,” scheduled for release on April 30th, 2025. This update will introduce new content, including new regions like the Lowland Meadows and Marin Woods, weapon archetypes such as Gauntlets and Wands, and various cosmetic and performance enhancements. The update also focuses on replayability, implementing QoL improvements like direct teleportation to your house, an enhanced storage system, and a Hardcore mode.

Apple Arcade to add 6 new titles including Katamari and Space Invaders

12 mars 2025 à 11:45

Apple Arcade was created with the intention to bring wider awareness to the many great video games available on mobile platforms. With a monthly subscription, iOS users can get their hands on a range of interesting and unique games, all of which are free from microtransactions. Following the last major update, the service is set to get 6 new titles next month, including a new Katamari.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Arcade team at Apple wrote: “Six fun games and exciting updates for Apple Arcade are launching over the next month.”

Set to go go live on the 3rd of April, the full line-up of new titles is as follows:

Arcade Katamari

Easily the biggest upcoming addition is that of Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE. The first new entry in almost a decade, this Apple Arcade exclusive takes the classic Katamari format and adds a twist, having players:

“energize the king’s ‘live stream’ by rolling their Katamari to create stars. As users advance, comments from in-game fans appear, and the longer they play, the larger their audience grows. By completing the king’s challenges and boosting their subscriber count, players can unlock dynamic new stages.”

Fortunately for fans of the series, you might not need to purchase an Apple device in order to get a new taste of the King of all Cosmos, as Bandai Namco recently trademarked the name ‘Once Upon a KATAMARI’ – suggesting more games are in the works. Regardless, it is exciting to see the series finally rise from its slumber.

Metallica Immersive Concert Experience Coming to Apple Vision Pro

11 mars 2025 à 23:54
On Friday, March 14, Apple plans to release a new Apple Immersive Video featuring Metallica, with Apple retail stores offering a preview for customers who do not have a Vision Pro headset.

The Metallica concert experience was filmed in Mexico City during the second-year finale of the band's M72 World Tour. It includes full performances of three songs, including "Whiplash," "One," and "Enter Sandman."

The concert was captured using Apple Immersive Video, and it provides a high-resolution 180-degree video along with Spatial Audio. Apple built a custom stage layout with 14 Apple Immersive Video cameras using a mix os stabilized cameras, cable-suspended cameras, and remote-controlled camera dolly systems that moved around the stage.

Apple says that the experience provides "unprecedented access" to Metallica members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo, with views as close as the Snake Pit.
"Game changing is putting it lightly," said Lars Ulrich of Metallica. "Seeing our concert like that, along with the energy of the Mexico City fans -- it's very immersive, and it's super fun. We've always been interested in pushing the boundaries, and Metallica on Apple Vision Pro is exactly that."

The video launches on Friday, and Apple Vision Pro demos at retail stores will provide a preview. Metallica's new EP, M72 World Tour: Mexico City is also launching on Apple Music on Friday.

Two Point Museum Review – Two Point At Its Best

11 mars 2025 à 15:00

Ever since I was a kid, I've always loved sandbox games that allowed you to manage large areas or populations. Whether it was Theme Hospital or SimCity 2000, a lot of time was spent playing those games. As someone who loves going to museums, big or small, I knew immediately that I had to play this game, and I'm so glad I did. Truly, you can't go wrong with any of the Two Point games, but Two Point Museum excels in areas that other sandbox titles do not. Between their first game and this new title, they have learned what […]

macOS 15.4 Beta 'Hides' Amount of Storage Used by Apple Intelligence

11 mars 2025 à 14:11
When Apple released the second macOS 15.4 beta earlier this month, the company apparently made a change that means System Settings no longer shows how much local storage space Apple Intelligence features are taking up on a Mac.

In macOS Sequoia 15.3.1, users with a Mac powered by Apple silicon can easily discover how much space any installed Apple Intelligence features are taking up on their drive by going to System Settings ➝ General ➝ Storage, and then clicking the circled "i" button next to macOS.

That hasn't been the case since the beta 2 release of Apple's upcoming macOS Sequoia 15.4 update. As spotted by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, when users click the "i" button, no further details are now given to explain the amount of storage that macOS is taking up locally.

However, it turns out that if the user has System Integrity Protection (SIP) disabled, System Settings reliably displays the information again. For those unfamiliar, SIP protects the entire system by preventing the execution of unauthorized code, and can only be disabled by entering Recovery Mode. The ability to disable SIP is useful for developers testing apps, but it is generally not recommended for most users.

According to iOS developer @b3lla_dev, Apple has made the Apple Intelligence assets unable to view unless SIP is disabled. This is apparently having a knock-on effect that makes the System Settings app unable to retrieve the file size of said assets.

Apple Intelligence utilizes something called the MobileAsset framework to manage and deliver its machine learning models and related assets to Apple devices. This framework dynamically downloads and updates the necessary components, ensuring that devices have access to the latest capabilities without requiring comprehensive system updates. According to Apple's support page, the assets for Apple Intelligence require up to 7GB of storage space on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

When storage is tight, 7GB is a significant amount that is bound to influence users when it comes to deciding whether to enable Apple Intelligence or not. It's not clear if this was a factor in Apple's decision to effectively hide the storage space that its suite of AI features eats up locally, but users will come to their own conclusions.

Perris has submitted a feedback report to Apple to notify them about the change, which persists in the latest beta 3, so we'll have to wait and see what action Apple takes, if any. Apple plans to release macOS Sequoia 15.4 in early April.

Split Fiction has sold over 1 million copies in 48 hours

11 mars 2025 à 12:00

Hazelight Studios has amassed a reputation over the past years for its dedication to creating new and unique co-op experiences. So far, this seems to be working out, with each successive game selling millions more than the last. While it’s too early to tell whether it can surpass its predecessor, the recently-released Split Fiction is already doing numbers – having sold over 1 million copies in just two days.

Making the announcement on BlueSky, the official Hazelight Studios page wrote: “SPLIT FICTION sold 1 MILLION units in its first 48 hours!!! The love you all show for our game is overwhelming! Everyone here at Hazelight are beyond happy – and we can’t stop enjoying your amazing reactions!”

Split fiction Million

Despite being published by EA, Hazelight Studios is a relatively small studio whose games operate on budgets far lower than the typical AAA release from the publisher, making its success even more notable.

As mentioned, Hazelight’s prior games sold incredibly well over the long-term, with 2018’s A Way Out and 2021’s It Takes Two selling 11 and 23 million copies respectively – doubly impressive when considering that you don’t need two copies to play together.

With Split Fiction being not only the highest rated game by Hazelight, but currently sitting as the highest rated title of 2025, we’ll likely see the game break milestone sales on a rather consistent basis over the coming months.

Lowe's Expanding Vision Pro 'Style Studio' Experience to Additional Stores

11 mars 2025 à 00:02
Following the launch of the Vision Pro headset last year, Lowe's hardware stores began offering an in-store Apple Vision Pro experience to try out its 3D "Style Studio" app and experience for kitchen renovation design.

Lowe's made the Vision Pro experience available to customers at select stores in North Carolina, California, and New Jersey, but now it is expanding to five Lowe's locations in Austin, Texas and the surrounding area. Lowe's said that its pilot test was successful, which is why the Vision Pro will roll out to new locations.

Lowe's Style Studio lets customers view a 3D kitchen environment that can be customized with hundreds of real-world materials, fixtures, and appliances. The app is available in the Vision Pro App Store, but customers who do not have a Vision Pro can use it at Lowe's stores.

Since the initial test run, Lowe's has added new options including trending colors and popular kitchen designs. There's also a new teleport feature that lets users view their kitchen from different viewpoints within the room, without moving.

A Lowe's employee will guide customers through the kitchen creation process during a one-on-one 45-minute appointment, where there are 80 billion design combinations available. Completed kitchen setups can be saved, emailed, texted, or AirDropped as a PDF, with the content in the kitchen able to be purchased through Lowe's.

Sessions are free, and customers in the Austin area can book a consultation online using the Lowe's website. Vision Pro headsets will be available at Texas stores for approximately three months, with appointments to start on March 15.

Apple Seeds Third Betas of visionOS 2.4, tvOS 18.4, and watchOS 11.4

10 mars 2025 à 18:43
Apple today provided developers with the third betas of upcoming visionOS 2.4, tvOS 18.4, and watchOS 11.4 updates for testing purposes. The software is available a week after Apple seeded the second betas.

The betas are available to registered developers, and can be downloaded from the Settings app on each device.

Of the three new software betas, the visionOS 2.4 update is the most notable because it brings Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro for the first time. ‌Apple Intelligence‌ features available in visionOS include Writing Tools, Genmoji, Memory Movie, Image Playground, Priority Notifications, and ChatGPT integration.

The update will include a dedicated Spatial Gallery app, which will offer a curated selection of spatial videos, photos, and panoramas from artists, filmmakers, and photographers. Apple is also bringing a Vision Pro app to the iPhone for Vision Pro management, and it will let users find and download apps, add content to a watch list, and more.

With visionOS 2.4 and iOS 18.4, an ‌iPhone‌ can be used to set up Guest Mode on the Vision Pro, making it much easier to let people try out the headset. When a guest puts on the Vision Pro, a prompt appears on the ‌iPhone‌, and the Vision Pro owner is able to choose what apps the guest can use and can see what the guest is doing via AirPlay.

Apple plans to release visionOS 2.4, tvOS 18.4, and watchOS 11.4 in early April.

Split Fiction is the highest rated game of 2025 so far

5 mars 2025 à 10:00

Split Fiction is the next big game from Josef Fares and Hazelight Studios. Known for their work on co-op focused titles such as A Way Out and It Takes Two, the upcoming Split Fiction appears to be an early game of the year contender if critics are anything to go by – receiving universal acclaim and becoming the highest rated game of 2025 so far.

With a Metacritic score of 91 and an Opencritic rating of 90, Split Fiction is officially the highest rated game of the year so far – just beating out Monster Hunter Wilds and Kingdom Come Deliverance II for the top spot.

Once again, it seems that Hazelight have managed to elevate the co-op space, quickly becoming one of the premiere studios for inventive and new cooperative experiences.

Split fiction 2025

Given its success, it will be interesting to see whether Split Fiction winds up on any Game of the Years lists later on in 2025. While the team’s last title It Takes Two managed to snag the GOTY back in 2021, 2025 could be a much more competitive year, with GTA VI still expected to launch sometime this calendar period.

Regardless, it is exciting and encouraging to see Hazelight continue to succeed in what has become a relatively niche space within the games industry. Hopefully they continue to thrive for years to come.

KitGuru says: Will you be picking up Split Fiction day-one? What’s your favourite game from Josef Fares? What do you predict will be the GOTY nominees for 2025? Let us know down below.

Split Fiction Review – Page-Turning Action, Predictable Plot

4 mars 2025 à 17:00

Split Fiction

In recent years, Josef Fares and Hazelight Studios have established themselves as the masters of a certain unique brand of co-op-focused games, including 2018’s prison-escape adventure A Way Out and 2021’s family-drama-infused multi-genre extravaganza It Takes Two. The latter ended up becoming a surprise smash hit, selling over 23 million copies worldwide, so anticipation and expectations are high for Hazelight’s latest co-op venture, Split Fiction. Does Split Fiction double down on Hazelight's recent success? Or have they gone to this particular well too many times? Time to find out if this one's a co-optimal experience.   Split Fiction casts you […]

Josef Fares reveals a ton of details on Hazelight Studios, Split Fiction and more

4 mars 2025 à 10:45

Hazelight founder Josef Fares has amassed a reputation not only for making interesting and humorous speeches during the annual Game Awards, but also for releasing consistently excellent co-op titles including A Way Out and GOTY winner It Takes Two. With the launch of their next title ‘Split Fiction’ almost here, Fares has revealed a ton of new and interesting details surrounding the upcoming game, previous titles, the studio as a whole and more.

Taking part in Minnmax’s rapid-fire question series, Hazelight Studios founder Josef Fares answered 127 questions in total – revealing a bunch of cool and notable facts/details.

One of the most interesting revelations was the fact that their last game ‘It Takes Two’ has sold over 23 million copies since its launch back in 2021 – with half of all the sales coming from China.

This is even more impressive when considering the fact that despite being a co-op game, It Takes Two did not require you to purchase multiple copies to play the full game.

Fares It Takes Two

Beyond this, Fares revealed that the upcoming Split Fiction will be roughly the same length as It Takes Two; has double the budget; and will also feature a cross-play Friends Pass feature to let others play with you for free no matter their system of choice.

Finally, in an era where studios are being shut down left and right, it’s encouraging to hear Fares state that Hazelight will always remain independent, is not for sale and will never pursue any sort of stock listing.

Hazelight Studios have proven time and time again that they know how to make unique, inventive and inspiring games, and so hopefully Split Fiction proves to be all this and more.
