Bungie is preparing for imminent Marathon launch announcement

5 mars 2025 à 18:30

Bungie had to scale back pretty heavily on Destiny 2 content last year following the release of The Final Shape. This happened, in large part, due to the need for additional resources to get their next game ready – Marathon. Following multiple delays, Bungie appears to finally be set for a big launch in the coming months.

The Steam backend has been updated, showing that Bungie is making behind-the-scenes changes to the Marathon store page. The new changes include extra ‘game editions', as well as pre-order bonuses. One of those free pre-order bonuses is exactly what you would expect – a set of Marathon-themed skins for Destiny 2. While the two games are not connected, Bungie looks to be planning on leveraging its multiple IPs to cross-promote each game. With that in mind, we wouldn't be surprised to see some type of promotional event for the game within Destiny 2 as well.

According to industry insider, Jeff Grubb, Bungie is going to announce Marathon details in April, during its own event, separate to Sony's State of Play streams for PlayStation first-party games. This would be in line with Bungie's usual schedule, as the company often makes announcements in April and August, with smaller updates from the studio sprinkled in-between.

Marathon is a PvP focused shooter with extraction-based gameplay, pitting teams of three players against each other to gather loot and get out of the zone alive. The game is set to release for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

KitGuru Says: Given how little Bungie has done with Destiny's PvP mode, I do wonder how many fans are going to be willing to pay more money to finally get a decent PvP experience.
