Pope Leo has urged political leaders in Lebanon to make peace their highest priority in a forceful appeal as he is visiting the country, which remains a target of Israeli airstrikes, on the second leg of his first overseas trip as Catholic leader.

Leo, the first US pope, arrived in Beirut on Sunday from a four-day visit to Turkey where he warned that humanity’s future was at risk because of the world’s unusual number of bloody conflicts, and condemned violence in the name of religion.

Ukrainian naval drones hit two tankers operating under sanctions in the Black Sea as they headed to a Russian port to load up with oil destined for foreign markets, an official said on Saturday, as Kyiv tries to pile pressure on Russia’s vast oil industry.

The two oil tankers, identified as the Kairos and Virat, were empty and sailing to Novorossiysk, a major Russian Black Sea oil terminal, the official at the security service of Ukraine told Reuters.

Hong Kong begins three days of mourning after deadly apartment fires

Families are combing hospitals hoping to find their loved ones as about 200 people still listed as missing, and at least 128 killed

An outpouring of grief was set to sweep Hong Kong on Saturday as an official, three-day mourning period began with a moment of silence for the 128 people killed in one of the city’s deadliest fires.

City leader John Lee, along with senior ministers and dozens of top civil servants, stood in silence for three minutes on Saturday morning outside the government headquarters, where the flags of China and Hong Kong were flown at half-mast.

Dans cette procédure cruciale pour la place de Paris, la plus haute juridiction française a annulé un arrêt de la Cour d'appel de Paris rendu en avril, qui estimait que le milliardaire Vincent Bolloré contrôle Vivendi, et que l'Autorité des marchés financiers devait réexaminer la scission du groupe survenue fin 2024. En juillet, le gendarme des marchés financiers avait finalement ordonné au groupe Bolloré, contrôlé par la famille de Vincent Bolloré, de préparer une offre publique de retrait sur Vivendi - décision dont Bolloré a également fait appel.

UE: Google retire sa plainte concernant le cloud de Microsoft après l'ouverture d'une enquête

par Foo Yun Chee BRUXELLES (Reuters) - Google, propriété du groupe Alphabet, a retiré vendredi sa plainte contre Microsoft déposée auprès de la Commission européenne pour ses pratiques anticoncurrentielles en matière d'informatique dématérialisée ("cloud"), une semaine après l'ouverture d'une enquête de l'Union européenne sur les pratiques de Microsoft dans ce secteur. L'année dernière, Google a porté plainte auprès de la Commission européenne, alléguant que les pratiques anticoncurrentielles de Microsoft contraignaient les clients à rester sur sa plateforme cloud Azure. Amazon domine le marché du cloud computing avec une part de 30%, suivie par Microsoft avec 20% et Google avec 13%.

Newcastle are to complain over the “unacceptable treatment” their fans endured after Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Marseille in the Champions League. The Premier League club accused French police of using pepper spray, batons and shields to subdue supporters in the wake of Tuesday night’s loss at Stade Vélodrome.

A club statement said: “We will be formally raising our concerns with Uefa, Olympique de Marseille and French police in relation to the unacceptable treatment of our supporters by police at Stade Vélodrome following Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League fixture.”

Donald Trump asked the Japanese prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, to avoid further escalation in a dispute with China during a call this week, according to two Japanese government sources who spoke to the Reuters news agency.

Takaichi sparked the biggest diplomatic bust-up with Beijing in years when she told parliament earlier this month that a hypothetical Chinese attack on Taiwan could trigger Japanese military action.

Simon Harmer routs India and lifts South Africa to Test series sweep
