Following years of silence, it seems as though we might finally be getting our first proper look at Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine some time this month. Ahead of any official showings, leakers have now claimed that the PS5 exclusive is set to arrive some time next year – with Marvel’s Venom planned to release in the years following.

As reported by MP1ST, “someone familiar with the situation” confirmed to the publication that Marvel’s Wolverine is currently planned to launch some time in 2026.

While not too surprising given the previous data breach which suggested as such, this seems to indicate that the hack has fortunately not impacted development too badly.

Though yet to be officially announced by Insomniac Games, the same hack revealed that the team is also working on a Venom-focused spin-off. According to MP1ST, this project is much further away, with the sources simply confirming that the title is still “in development.”

Additional information, including potential story spoilers, can be found HERE. That said, it is exciting to know that despite the cancellation of the multiplayer Spider-Man project, Insomniac still has plenty of exciting things cooking in the oven.

Hopefully we will learn more about Marvel’s Wolverine in particular during the rumoured upcoming State of Play later this month.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is currently tied with Split Fiction as the highest rated game of 2025 so far, with the JRPG-inspired title receiving universal acclaim from both critics and fans alike. Alongside the game’s undeniable critical accomplishments, Clair Obscur has seen an equal amount of commercial success – having now sold over 4.4 million copies.

As part of the annual French charity stream ZEvent, the team at Sandfall Interactive partook in an interview in which they were asked about the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

As mentioned by the team, the last official update put Expedition 33 as having sold 3.3 million copies within its first 33 days. That said, the devs did offer an update on this figure, revealing (as translated by ResetEra user DamageEX2) that the title has now reached 4.4 million copies sold.

While sales for the RPG has of course slowed down since its launch back in April, this updated figure is certainly worth celebrating – especially as it marked the debut title from Sandfall Interactive (and was made available day-one on Game Pass).

Regardless, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a major achievement and deserves all of the success that it has received (and is continuing to receive). It will be interesting to see how many units will have been sold officially by the time The Game Awards comes around.

Dying Light: The Beast is the next game from Techland following 2022’s somewhat controversial Dying Light 2. Unlike their previous release, The Beast appears to have had a relatively smooth development cycle – with the team announcing that the game is officially set to arrive one day earlier than previously announced in celebration of 1 million pre-orders.

Taking to twitter to make the announcement, the team at Techland wrote: “Big news! Since more than 1 million players have already secured their copy of Dying Light: The Beast ahead of launch, we're moving the release forward to SEPTEMBER 18!”

Of course, bringing the game forwards by a single day is not the biggest deal in the world, however this does indicate a certain degree of confidence in the final product (especially as The Beast did receive a month-long delay earlier this year).

For the uninitiated, Dying Light: The Beast is a spin-off / sequel of sorts which follows Kyle Crane – the player character from the first game. Initially pitched as a standalone expansion to Dying Light 2, the game’s scope grew over time, turning it into the full release that it is today.

As mentioned, Dying Light 2 was seen as a step back in some ways compared to the first game. That said, the sequel did suffer from a number of development issues, necessitating a rewrite of the entire game’s story in a short amount of time.

As far as we know, the upcoming spin-off has not suffered any such setbacks, and so hopefully Dying Light: The Beast winds up being Techland’s best game yet when it launches later this week.

Easily the headliner for this week is Ghostrunner 2 – the sequel to 2020’s fast-paced first-person parkour title which feels like a blend between Mirror’s Edge and Hotline Miami, in which you “slice your enemies with a monomolecular katana, dodge bullets with your superhuman reflexes, and employ a variety of specialized techniques to prevail.”

Expanding on the first game, the sequel offers new mechanics; skills; progression; boss fights; game modes and “nonlinear levels with complex motorbike sections.”

Monument Valley 2 meanwhile is a perspective-bending and geometric-focused puzzler which serves as a sequel to the award-winning 2014 mobile game. Released back in 2017 on mobile (and 2022 for PC), Monument Valley 2 was praised for its atmosphere and presentation.

As mentioned, all three titles are available to claim right now, and will remain so until the 18th of September – at which point they will be replaced by Project Winter and Samorost 2. Of course, once they have been added to your library, they’re yours to keep forever.

Following weeks of rumours and speculation, Nintendo finally announced that they would be hosting a Switch 2 Direct this month – going live later today. Ahead of the digital showcase, one insider has offered a potential look at a couple of the planned announcements, claiming that Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes are ‘unquestionably’ coming to Switch 2, and will include feature parity with other current-gen systems.

As reported by known industry insider Nate the Hate in a Nintendo Direct predictions podcast, the leaker offered a titbit of information regarding the upcoming showcase. Alongside his predictions, Nate claimed to have heard that Capcom’s Resident Evil series of games will be coming to Switch 2 in the future, stating:

“That’s not a question…Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, these are Switch 2 bound. It’s just a matter of when they will be announced and when will they release.”

Whether these remakes wind up being announced at the Direct or not, we will have to wait and see. But regardless, when they do arrive on Switch 2, RE2 and 3 are said to be pretty uncompromising ports, with Nate claiming:

“From what I’ve been told, games like Resident Evil 2 and 3 are going to have feature parity with the PlayStation and Xbox version”. Elaborating further, the Switch 2 ports will reportedly support the likes of ray-tracing and 120fps.

Of course, the remakes were originally released on the 8th-generation of consoles – meaning Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Still, if the Switch 2 versions of Resident Evil 3 and 4 do end up supporting ray-tracing, 120fps and the rest, then it could be another welcome 3rd party addition to the line-up…assuming the price is appropriate.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the next title from Naughty Dog and game director Neil Druckmann. Initially announced during last year’s Game Awards, little has been officially shared regarding the ambitious title so far. That said, during a recent interview, Druckmann offered some slight teasers on what to expect.

In an interview conducted by Variety, Naughty Dog President and Creative Director Neil Druckmann sat down to discuss HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us Season 2, the upcoming 3rd Season and his current work on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

When asked about the current state of the game’s development, Druckmann claimed to be “in the thick of it. We're making it, we're playing it. We're firing on all cylinders,” adding that “It's the most ambitious game we've ever made. It's the most expansive game we've ever made, maybe the most expensive, by the time we finish it.”

Unfortunately, we did not gain any new insight on when the game will be shown off next. That said, Druckmann did tease the evolution in gameplay which players can expect from the upcoming title, stating:

“You could look at our previous titles and see the evolution of going from ‘Uncharted,’ where we're really cutting our teeth on realistic character-action game, third-person shooter, combined with emotional storytelling.”

He continued, “With ‘The Last of Us,’ we added some RPG elements, we started playing with wide linear layouts. Continue that trajectory forward, add sci-fi and you start to get the sense of what we're doing, and then we've gotten even more ambitious than that.”

In many ways, The Last of Us Part II offers the best and most complete form of 3rd-person shooting/combat – thanks to both its mechanics and flawless animations. With not a single stain on the studio’s 30-year-portfolio, it will be highly interesting to see what Naughty Dog has in store for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

In order to fulfill its early Kickstarter promises, Team Cherry opted not to give out early review codes for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Given its ambitious scope, it’s taken some time for critics to get through the long-awaited sequel. With early reviews finally trickling out, Hollow Knight: Silksong is now currently sat at the top of 2025’s highest rated games – right alongside Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

With a Metacritic score of 93, Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently tied for first place as the highest rated game of 2025 alongside Josef Fares Split Fiction and the hit RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

It is worth noting that Split Fiction and Clair Obscur both feature far more critic reviews than Silksong, with the three titles sitting at 110, 83 and 17 reviews respectively. As mentioned however, this is due to reviewers not receiving codes for Silksong early – and so as additional reviews pile in we should get a more complete picture of the consensus.

That said, user reviews for the game tell a similar story, albeit at a grander scale, with Silksong currently resting at 9.1/10 on Metacritic based on almost 3,000 reviews. In a similar vein, Silksong’s score on Steam is equally high with a 91% very positive rating across 56,000 English reviews.

Of course, regardless of its final score, Hollow Knight: Silksong is already one of the most successful games of 2025, with its launch breaking pretty much every digital platform while going on to surpass 500,000 concurrent players on Steam alone during its first 24 hours. It looks like we might have another Game of the Year contender on our hands.

Following several scrapped attempts at making a Bioshock film, Netflix officially announced back in early 2022 that they had obtained the rights to a Bioshock adaptation. Since then, little has been shared regarding the project. Finally however, we have gotten some new details – including confirmation that the film will be based on the original Bioshock 1.

In an interview conducted by the publication TheDirect, producer for the Netflix Bioshock adaptation ‘Roy Lee’ offered some early details on the upcoming project, claiming:

“Netflix wants us to keep everything under wraps. But it's definitely going to be based on the first ‘BioShock' game.”

This was somewhat hinted at back with the initial announcement, with Netflix using the iconic phrase “would you kindly” in the original post. Still, it is welcome to have official confirmation.

Beyond this, Lee gave fans a vague timeline for when the project could finally release, stating:

“[the director’s previous film] ‘The Long Walk' became a reality because ‘BioShock' was delayed for a little bit where we had to do some more script work. And so as the script work is being done, we shot ‘The Long Walk,' and he was already committed to doing the next ‘Hunger Games' movie. And so it's just waiting for him whenever the ‘Hunger Games' is completed, and the script is just being worked on right now.”

So, while it seems as though the Bioshock film is still a ways away, work is continuing on the long-awaited project. Hopefully the previously reported budget slashes don’t impact the final result too negatively.

LEGO Voyagers is the next game from Light Brick Studio – the team behind the visually stunning LEGO Builder’s Journey. First announced back during Summer Game Fest, this much-expanded co-op successor was confirmed to be launching in mid-September. Previously listed as coming to PS4; PS5; Xbox Series X|S; PC and the original Switch, LEGO Voyagers is now getting a surprise Switch 2 release.

Ahead of the game’s launch on the 15th of September, the official page for LEGO Voyagers on the Nintendo eShop has been listed as coming to both the original Switch as well as Switch 2 – the first confirmation that the co-op puzzler will offer a native ‘next-gen’ version.

Whether LEGO Voyagers was always planned to come to Nintendo's latest system or not, it is currently unknown. That said, there have been many reports claiming that devs have struggled to get their hands on the console's development kits.

It’s entirely possible that between SGF and now, the team at Light Brick Studios have managed to obtain said dev kits – allowing for a native Switch 2 release. Regardless of the reason, a proper Switch 2 release for LEGO Voyagers is welcome to see – especially as a day-and-date launch alongside all other platforms.

Battlefield Labs is EA’s new way to get its fans in on the development of Battlefield 6, with players able to check out the upcoming multiplayer shooter ahead of time – all the while offering feedback on what needs to be changed/improved. Ahead of the official launch of Battlefield 6, the teams at EA have now revealed that the next Battlefield Labs test will be focused on the upcoming free-to-play Battle Royale mode.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Battlefield Team wrote: “This week we begin testing a new addition to our Battlefield universe, a Battle Royale built on Battlefield's unique DNA. The information and feedback from players in Battlefield Labs will be incredibly valuable in helping to refine and deliver this experience.”

Of course, given that this is an early test, things are subject to change. That said, as of right now, the BR mode will include:

• An ‘all-new map’ featuring “a diverse array of tactical Points of Interest, each with distinct layouts and themes that offer unique gameplay opportunities”
• Common transport vehicles around the map
• The ability to “unlock powerful armored vehicles to turn the tide of battle”
• Tactical destruction (as expected)
• 100 total players – with 4 players in each squad
• Multiple tools to keep your squad in the fight
• 5 tiers of weapons to loot
• Strike Packages (similar to COD’s support streaks)

Full details on the upcoming Labs test can be found HERE. Of course, all of the above is subject to change based on feedback. That said, it will be highly interesting to see what fans think of this upcoming BR mode – and whether it will be able to directly compete with the likes of Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone and EA’s own Apex Legends.

Set to go live on the 16th of September, subscribers can look forward to the following:

Though far from the strongest month, there is still a decent variety of experiences being offered, with WWE 2K25 marking the latest entry in the annual wrestling franchise and ‘Green Hell’ satisfying those who enjoy the open-world survival crafter genre of titles.

Beyond these, you’ve also got a number of retro-inspired throwbacks in the form of Crow Country (a survival horror set in an abandoned theme park) and Conscript (a WWI-set survival horror).

All in all, while not the greatest of months in the world for PS Plus Extra/Premium, September’s line-up does include quite a few interesting games which are worth checking out at the very least.

Ready or Not is a tactical first person shooter from the studio Void Interactive. Depicting “a modern-day world in which SWAT police units are called to defuse hostile and confronting situations,” the game received some controversy back during its early access launch. That said, the title finally arrived on consoles this past July to over 1 million copies sold. In the months since, Ready or Not has continued to perform, having now surpassed 3 million copies on console.

Making the announcement, the team at Void Interactive officially confirmed this latest sales milestone, taking to its socials to write: “3 Million fans of Ready or Not on PlayStation and Xbox and continuing to grow. Across PC and console, the LSPD has grown to over 13 million officers responding.”

As mentioned by the studio, with 3 million copies sold across Xbox and PlayStation, Ready or Not has now officially surpassed 13 million total sales – 10 million of which is on PC.

It is worth noting that the game received some backlash upon its console launch due to alterations having been made to the contents of the PC version in order to align it with the other systems.

Even so, it seems as though Ready or Not has proven itself to be yet another massive indie success story.

Alongside the official reveal of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 back in 2021, Insomniac Games offered a brief teaser announcing that they were also working on a Wolverine title. Ahead of its expected unveiling later this month, insiders have claimed that early playtest impressions for Wolverine are “fantastic.”

Last week, known industry insider Tom Henderson stated that the long-awaited Marvel’s Wolverine would be officially shown off during Sony’s as-of-yet-unannounced September State of Play, claiming that “the production of its next trailer has now been completed.”

While little else was shared at the time, Henderson has since taken to the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast to offer some titbits on early impressions, stating that “From a few playtesters that I've been speaking to, they think that the game looks fantastic. So that's good news.”

Unfortunately, no further details were shared regarding what aspects of the game look ‘fantastic’. That said, given how Insomniac Games have proven themselves with the likes of Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2, it’s safe to say that Marvel’s Wolverine is in good hands – even if we know next-to-nothing officially.

In celebration of this, industry analysts have shared the top 20 best-selling games of all time on PlayStation (in the US) – half of which is Call of Duty.

Taking to BlueSky, industry analyst Mat Piscatella of Circana shared the “top 20 all-time best-selling games on PlayStation platforms in the US, from Circana's Retail Tracking Service.”

The chart offers ranking based on both dollar sales as well as unit sales. For our purposes, we will be looking at the latter. That said, there isn’t too big of a difference between the two, with both variables seeing Call of Duty take up half of the entire list.

With that, the top 20 best-selling PlayStation games of all time in the US (based on unit sales) is as follows:

Pacific Drive is a unique run-based, first-person driving survival game in which “your car is your only companion as you navigate a surreal and anomaly-filled reimagining of the Pacific Northwest”. Released back in February of last year, the debut title from Ironwood Studios was nominated for various awards and managed to sell over 1 million copies. Now, the team has officially announced Whispers in the Woods – a “terrifying new expansion to Pacific Drive.”

Releasing an atmospheric trailer, the team at Ironwood Studios officially announced Pacific Drive: Whispers in the Woods; an 8-12 hour long expansion to the original game which “takes you deep within a new and mysterious part of the Olympic Exclusion Zone's forests.”

Said to feature “strange symbols and effigies,” players will be able to “find and experience the power of Artifacts;” which are described as “a new gameplay system featuring objects that create mysterious changes and effects to you and the world around you.”

Beyond the story and artifacts, this expansion will ‘expand’ on many of the original game’s elements, introducing:

• New Garage Stations
• New Route Modifiers
• New Garage Cosmetics
• New Maps and Junction Types
• New Car Parts
• New Anomalies

Neither a price nor release date has been shared, though the Whispers in the Woods expansion is planned to arrive sometime in 2025 and can currently be wishlisted.

In case you missed it last year, Pacific Drive is certainly worth a look – especially for those who enjoy the act of driving solo, rogue-lites and a mysterious atmosphere. The game is currently on sale for 50% off.

While celebrating the franchise’s 14th anniversary, the devs at Dambuster Studios have seemingly teased that another game is on its way.

Taking to their Steam page, the team at Dambuster Studios wrote: “It's been 14 years since Dead Island first splattered onto the scene, stranding players in the blood-soaked paradise of Banoi. Since then, the zompocalypse has crawled from tropical shores to the sun-drenched chaos of HELL-A in Dead Island 2, where over 20 million Slayers have left nothing but carnage behind.”

For context, Dead Island 2 sold 1 million copies in its first 3 days on the market – going on to push “well over” 2 million copies by the end of its first month. The final sales update we received was in February of this year, when it was confirmed that the game had sold 4 million copies.

That said, by then Dead Island 2 had already surpassed 10 million total players owing to its release on PlayStation Plus Extra. Most recently, the game was offered for free back in May through the Epic Games Store – likely aiding in its new players milestone.

All that said, by far the most interesting part of the announcement came at the end, with Dambuster stating: “This isn’t the final cut though. Dambuster Studios are already carving out what comes next. For now, the details stay under wraps, the outbreak is far from over…”

Dead Island 2 was far from perfect, but given just how long the game took to come to fruition, it was a pleasant surprise that it released at all – let alone the fact that it managed to be a critical and commercial success.

Hopefully Dead Island 3 or whatever it ends up being called doesn’t wind up taking a decade to come out.

Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program has been supporting indie games for quite a few years now, having paid over $5 billion to developers since its inception while also offering other forms of non-financial assistance. With regards to the latter, Microsoft has now announced the ID@Xbox Indie Selects Demo Fest – letting you check out dozens of demos for a limited time.

Making the announcement on their Xbox Wire blog, Jessica Ronnell – the Senior Developer Engagement Manager at Xbox wrote: “We’re thrilled to announce that our Indie Selects Demo Fest has begun, featuring more than 40 exciting game demos available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.”

Available from now until the 30th of September, Xbox users can check out dozens of new and upcoming indie games, including but not limited to:

• Yooka-Replaylee
• Mina the Hollower
• The Jackbox Party Pack 11
• Tormented Souls 2
• Halls of Torment

Demos are extremely important when it comes to spreading awareness for a game. This fact is doubly-so the case when it comes to indie titles. As such, it is therefore welcome to see Microsoft continuing to highlight such games.

We seem to be in the era of video game adaptations, with dozens of various IPs having been announced to be receiving film and TV shows in the coming years. One project which seemed to run into some problems was Sony’s live-action Street Fighter film. Fortunately, distributor Paramount has now taken over the deal – confirming an official release date of October 2026.

Back in 2023, it was officially announced that a live-action adaptation of Street Fighter was in the works; though very little else was known at the time.

Following this, Sony confirmed that they were leading the project in collaboration with Legendary Pictures – penning the Street Fighter film with a March 2026 release date.

In an interesting twist, the project was later removed from Sony’s upcoming release calendar due to their global distribution deal with Legendary ending at the tail end of last year, leaving the project in limbo.

Finally however, the Street fighter film has been saved, with TheHollywoodReporter confirming that Legendary is now working out a deal with Paramount. As expected, this has led to a slight delay, with the Street Fighter film now set to arrive on the 16th of October 2026.

That said, the final product was already well underway prior to the split with Sony, and so hopefully this switch-up hasn’t caused too many issues. The plot for the Street fighter film reads as follows:

“Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don't, it's GAME OVER!”

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake project has been a rather lofty task, with the first entry in the trilogy launching back in 2020 – followed by its sequel Rebirth in 2024. While we will still have to wait some time for the 3rd and final title in the trilogy, Square Enix has offered a development update on both it and the equally-as-anticipated Kingdom Hearts 4.

During the publisher’s recent Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis 2nd Anniversary broadcast, creative director Tetsuya Nomura offered an update on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3. According to Nomura (as translated by the publication Gematsu):

“things are moving along really smoothly, and the release timing has already been decided. We’re moving forward according to that schedule right now, so please rest assured and be patient.”

The long awaited Kingdom Hearts 4 appears to be in a similar spot currently, with Nomura adding: “And this has also come up in the comments here and there, but Kingdom Hearts IV is likewise steadily moving forward according to schedule, so please look forward to it.”

Tetsuya Nomura has headed development on the Kingdom Hearts series since its inception and so it is encouraging to see that both KH4 and the next Final Fantasy VII entry are seemingly in good hands.

Of course, we weren’t given any actual timeline for when to expect either title. That said, with regards to FFVII Remake Part 3, Square Enix previously confirmed that it will arrive before the launch of the PlayStation 6 – meaning it’s still a ways away. With all that in mind, it is welcome to see that development is going smoothly.

Back in 2022, it was reported that a TV show adaptation based on the popular Life is Strange series was in development, with Amazon Studios working alongside dj2 Entertainment to bring the choice-based story to new mediums. Following years of little-to-no updates on the project, the Life is Strange TV show has now been officially greenlit.

As reported by the publication Variety, Amazon Studios have officially greenlit the development of the previously-announced Life is Strange TV show. Set to be written by Charlie Covell – known best perhaps for the Channel 4 adaptation The End of the F***ing World – the actor/writer has had plenty of experience both in writing adaptations as well as depicting the struggles of young and growing adults.

Beyond Covell, production company Story Kitchen are also attached to the project. For the uninitiated, this studio was founded in 2022 by the Sonic the Hedgehog film producer Dmitri M. Johnson with a focus on “adapting videogames and other ‘non-traditional’ IPs into FILM and TV.”

Though many of their projects have yet to come to fruition, Story Kitchen is currently attached to a boatload of upcoming video game adaptations, including but not limited to: Amazon’s Tomb Raider; It Takes Two; SIFU; Sleeping Dogs; Split Fiction and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

In the decade since the launch of the original Life is Strange, the popular series has followed a number of different characters and protagonists. That said, it seems the show will be adapting the first game’s plot, following Max:

“a photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life or death choice that will impact them forever.”

The discussion surrounding review codes and embargoes is an interesting one, with the lack of early reviews typically suggesting that the game might be coming in a bit hot. On the flip side, when publishers are confident in their title, reviewers are often given far more time to check the game out ahead of its official arrival. The upcoming Ghost of Yotei seems to be part of the latter – with critics confirming that reviews for the highly-anticipated sequel will go live far ahead of the game’s launch.

A shared by multiple video game pundits/reviewers, the embargo for Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Yotei will be lifted on the 25th of September at 6am PT (2pm UK time).

This means that all those looking forward to the upcoming open-world title will be able to get the full low-down on how good Yotei is exactly with a week to spare before its initial release on the 2nd of October – giving you the opportunity to cancel your pre-order if necessary (or the opposite assuming the reviews are positive.)

As mentioned (though not always the case as evidenced by Hollow Knight Silksong’s release), having an early review embargo typically means that the publisher is feeling confident in the quality of their game.

In addition, with Ghost of Tsuhsima being a known quantity by now, negative reviews for the sequel are likely to hinder sales more so than positive reviews helping it – suggesting that Sony is likely expecting a major hit on their hands.
