Portugal’s João Almeida held off race leader Jonas Vingegaard at the top of the brutal summit finish of Angliru to win stage 13 of the Vuelta a España on Friday.
The top two in the general classification battled it out for the stage win, leaving the rest behind in the final 5km. Almeida, of UAE Team Emirates-XRG, did all the work on the climb and stayed ahead of Visma-Lease a Bike’s Vingegaard in the sprint to the line.

New York Times says Trump authorized mission to plant listening device; team killed fishers they encountered
US Navy Seals shot and killed a number of North Korean civilians during a botched covert mission to plant a listening device in the nuclear-armed country during high-stakes diplomatic negotiations in 2019, the New York Times reported on Friday.
Citing unidentified sources, including current and former military officials with knowledge of the still-classified details, the newspaper said Donald Trump approved the operation during his first administration, as he was involved in historic talks with the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un.

Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) outsprinted his Spanish compatriot Javier Romo (Movistar) to win stage 12 of the Vuelta a España, his second stage win of this year’s race, with Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) retaining the overall lead.
Palestine flags were in evidence again after protests had brought Wednesday’s stage to a premature end but the race passed without serious incident, while the Israel-Premier Tech team have said pulling out of this year’s Vuelta would “set a dangerous precedent in the sport of cycling” in reaction to the incidents on stage 11.

France’s female boxers are banned from world championships due to genetic sex test delay
French federation calls exclusion ‘a profound injustice’
World Boxing insists it warned all competitors of policy
French female boxers have been barred from competing at the inaugural World Boxing Championships in Liverpool after failing to meet a deadline for a genetic sex test that the French boxing federation (FFBoxe) said was incompatible with French law.
World Boxing, which issued a list of competitors for Thursday’s opening rounds with no French entrants included, said it would not comment on individual cases but added it had warned all federations of the policy.
