DC Studios Reportedly Won't Promote Upcoming Movies at San Diego Comic-Con

Marvel Studios is skipping next month’s San Diego Comic-Con and now, DC Studios will also reportedly refrain from promoting their films at the annual fan con.

“SDCC is two weeks after Superman arrives in theaters, so the company won't be doing anything on that front. And Supergirl doesn’t hit in theaters until June 26, 2026 so DC Studios is biding its time before making any reveals,” according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter.

THR adds, though, that “DC Studios is going all-in on Peacemaker, the hit John Cena The Suicide Squad spinoff created by DC co-chief James Gunn. Peacemaker will have a big footprint at the convention, a move that signals DC and Max’s confidence in season two, which bows Aug. 21. And, while DC had no comment, there could be a Hall H panel for the show.”

IGN has reached out to DC Studios for comment but had not heard back at time of publish.

If there is a Hall H panel for Peacemaker Season 2 then it would seem plausible that talent potentially attending could include DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran and cast members John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, and Tim Meadows.

If Peacemaker does have a panel at July’s SDCC perhaps the upcoming HBO Max series Lanterns will also be there. The show – starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, respectively – is currently in production.

We’ll know what DC Studios’ final SDCC plans are closer to when the convention takes place from July 24-July 27.

As revealed in the Peacemaker Season 2 trailer, there are two Peacemakers this season. Gunn and Cena appeared together at CCXP Mexico last week where Gunn said the mystery of how there could be two versions of Christopher Smith will be answered in the new season’s first episode.

Gunn also recently explained how Peacemaker, Season 2 is tied to his Superman movie and other upcoming DCU projects.

"You've seen what we call the QUC, the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in the first season of Peacemaker, and we see more about that technology in Superman," Gunn said.

"The QUC is the center of the story in Peacemaker season 2. We see a lot of different characters from Superman in the [season], [including] Isabela and Nathan and Sean, and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from Superman. There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show."

Peacemaker, Season 2 launches on HBO Max on August 21.

Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher Exclusive Trailer Debut

Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher – the first documentary film from Legendary’s Unscripted division – tells the story of Willis Gibson, aka Blue Scuti, who, on December 21, 2023, was the first person in history to beat Tetris, a feat long thought impossible. And he did it at just age 13.

The success thrust Gibson into the spotlight overnight. But it was the timing of his achievement that makes his story that much more poignant and powerful as it came just days after the death of his dad, Adam. (Willis’ mom, Karin Gibson, also appears in the documentary.)

Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher serves then not only as a chronicle of one gamer’s biggest win but also as, the film’s official synopsis puts it, “a coming-of-age story about overcoming grief, the power of community, and the rise of an unexpected internet legend.”

The feature-length documentary, written and directed by Chris Moukarbel, will have its world premiere June 11th at the Tribeca Film Festival. IGN has the exclusive first look at the film’s trailer, which can be viewed via the player above or the embed below.

Gibson, now 15, is as surprised as you might think to be the subject of a film and while he’s still only in high school. “It's not something I thought would ever happen. I mean, it's one of those things that are so out there,” Gibson told IGN this week. “Never once in my life did it occur as a possibility because it's just something that never happens.”

“A lot of my friends were really surprised. There was a moment last year for three weeks or two weeks where it was really popular in my school, but then after that it wasn't really much,” said Gibson. “A lot of other people in the Tetris community think that it's really cool, getting more eyes on the community. Just the overall response has been extremely positive.”

Gibson recalled the moment when he knew he’d beaten the game. “I only knew of one spot where the game could crash and when I missed it, I didn't know that when or where it was going to crash. So the fact that I did it right before the run ended, I think that multiplied my expression, like how big it was,” he said. “I wasn't expecting it to happen. I just knew it could. So when it did, I just got extremely happy and was shocked that I got it.”

He hopes that viewers of Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher experience the joy of playing the game and the warmth of the Tetris community.

Maya Rogers, President and CEO of The Tetris Company, echoed that sentiment in a statement provided to IGN: “Willis’ incredible achievement in reaching the Tetris kill screen sparked an unprecedented wave of global interest. It was more than just a milestone — it was a powerful reminder of what Tetris represents: joy, resilience, and the magic of human connection. From the early friendship between creator Alexey Pajitnov and Tetris Company founder Henk Rogers to today’s passionate players, Tetris has always been about community. This was not only a win for Willis, but a proud moment for the entire Tetris family.”

Rogers and her dad Henk – himself the subject of the 2023 Tetris movie starring Taron Egerton – will both be at the Tribeca Film Festival in support of the documentary.

Willis Gibson will also be at Tribeca for next week’s premiere – his first time visiting New York City – but before that he will be competing in this weekend’s Classic Tetris World Championship in Pasadena, California.

Marvel Studios Won't Have Its Annual San Diego Comic-Con Panel This Year

Marvel Studios will not hold its annual Saturday Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con this year, although Marvel Entertainment will still have panels and events devoted to comics and games as well as a booth on the showroom floor.

“With Avengers: Doomsday moving its release date from May 2026 to December 2026, the studio is holding its powder for Comic-Con 2026, rather than suspend production in London to fly its cast of more than two dozen stars to appear on stage in San Diego this year,” according to Variety.

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con coincides with the release of Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Marvel Studios went big for last year’s show, with a special Thursday panel for Deadpool & Wolverine and the big reveal of Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The studio also put on a huge Galactus drone show over the skies of San Diego.

The last time Marvel skipped SDCC was in 2023 due to the Hollywood labor strikes.

One could speculate that just because Marvel Studios won’t be at SDCC that doesn’t mean parent company Disney won’t be there as the studio has sci-fi titles TRON: Ares and Avatar: Fire and Ash opening later this year.
