The NSW Waratahs’ season of promise has ended in despair with an ugly, record-breaking 46-6 Super Rugby Pacific loss to the Blues in Auckland.

The Waratahs needed to defeat the defending champions for the first time at Eden Park in 16 years to keep their finals hopes alive. Instead, Dan McKellar’s depleted side copped a seven-tries-to-nil drubbing at New Zealand rugby’s burial ground on Saturday.

Loretta Swit, who played ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan on M*A*S*H, dies aged 87

The actor, who won two Emmy awards, was best known for being one of longest-serving cast members on the hit series

Loretta Swit, who won two Emmy awards for playing Major Margaret Houlihan, the demanding head nurse of a behind-the-lines surgical unit during the Korean war on the pioneering hit TV series M*A*S*H, has died. She was 87.

Publicist Harlan Boll says Swit died on Friday at her home in New York City, likely from natural causes.

Alaska man survives after being trapped face-down in creek by 700lb boulder

Kell Morris’ wife held his head above water to prevent him from drowning while waiting for rescuers to arrive

An Alaska man who was pinned facedown in an icy creek by a 700lb (318kg) boulder for three hours survived the ordeal with only minor injuries, thanks in part to his wife’s quick thinking and lots of luck.

Kell Morris’ wife held his head above water to prevent him from drowning while waiting for rescuers to arrive after Morris was pinned by the boulder, which crashed onto him during a hike near a remote glacier south of Anchorage.

Man charged with stalking Jennifer Aniston found mentally incompetent to stand trial

Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, who has pleaded not guilty, declared not mentally fit to face charges of vandalism and felony stalking of the Friends actor

A judge declared on Thursday that a man is mentally incompetent to stand trial on charges of stalking Jennifer Aniston and crashing his car through her front gate.

The move in a Los Angeles County mental health court came after a second psychiatrist examined the defendant, Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, and reached the same conclusion as the first: that his mental health would not allow him to answer to felony charges of vandalism and stalking of the Friends star.

Reigning champion Panthers beat Hurricanes to reach third-straight Stanley Cup final

The horn sounded to signal a third straight trip to the Stanley Cup final, and the Florida Panthers celebrated with a subdued celebration more befitting a regular-season win for the reigning champs.

“I remember a few years ago, it felt like such an accomplishment from where we were at one point,” forward Matthew Tkachuk said, adding: “It’s all business and we’ve got a bigger goal in mind.”

Missing family’s boat found in Alaska waters along with human remains

Search for family from Texas was launched in August after report came in that a boat carrying eight people had begun taking on water

Nearly a year after the US Coast Guard suspended the search for a family of four missing after the boat they were on capsized in waters off south-central Alaska, the vessel along with human remains have been found, officials said on Wednesday.

The discovery came after three private Alaska companies, including one that uses sonar equipment to search underwater, offered in April to help look for the family, who are from Texas, according to a statement released by the Alaska Department of Public Safety.
