Ice arrests at immigration courts across the US stirring panic: ‘It’s terrifying’

Advocates say families with children among those detained in LA, Phoenix, New York, Seattle, Chicago and Texas

Federal authorities have arrested people at US immigration courts from New York to Arizona to Washington state in what appears to be a coordinated operation, as the Trump administration ramps up the president’s mass deportation campaign.

On Tuesday, agents who identified themselves only as federal officers arrested multiple people at an immigration court in Phoenix, taking people into custody outside the facility, according to immigrant advocates.

Several people dead after small plane crash in San Diego neighborhood

FAA said a Cessna 550 crashed in the early morning, damaging several vehicles and a home

Several people are dead after a small aircraft crashed in a neighborhood in San Diego, California, early on Thursday morning, the San Diego police department confirmed, clipping one home and damaging several vehicles.

The crash killed the plane’s passengers, Dan Eddy, the assistant San Diego fire chief, said at a Thursday morning news conference. The aircraft could hold eight to 10 people but it is unknown how many were on board. No one on the ground in the military housing neighborhood was injured.

Scientists solve the mystery of ginger cats – helped by hundreds of cat owners

Discovery has implications for ‘all cells and tissues’ and research bridged gap between scientists and non-scientists

After decades of mystery, new research has shed light on a question that has long stumped scientists and cat lovers alike – what exactly makes orange cats, well … orange?

Two studies published in Current Biology last week by separate teams at Stanford University and Japan’s Kyushu University at last provided some answers. Scientists have known for more than a century that orange cats inherit coloring differently from other mammals. Now – with help from hundreds of cat owners – researchers have identified the genetic mutation that gives orange cats their signature hue.
