Jack Draper survives scare to defeat Jenson Brooksby at Indian Wells

Jack Draper survived a scare to defeat Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-4 and book his place in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells for the second time in his career.

The British No 1 trailed 4-1 in the first set against the world No 937 but a rare moment of frustration inspired his fightback to claim victory in two sets. Trailing 4-2 and on the Brooksby serve, Draper threw his racket to the floor but followed his outburst by winning the next three points as he clawed his way back into the match.

Talbot Green shooting: man arrested after woman dies in south Wales town

Crime scenes set up in Green Park area with 40-year-old man taken into custody, say police

A man has been arrested after a 40-year-old woman who was shot dead in Talbot Green, about 15 miles west of Cardiff.

The woman was found with serious injuries in the Green Park area of the Welsh town just after 6pm on Sunday and could not be saved by emergency services, south Wales police said.

Luke Littler prevails again on Premier League night of nine-darters

  • Teenager savours 6-3 win over Aspinall in Brighton final
  • Humphries and Cross land nine-darters in earlier defeats

The world champion, Luke Littler, beat Nathan Aspinall 6-3 to win night five of the Premier League in Brighton, where there were two nine-dart finishes.

Littler, who added the UK Open title to his growing collection last weekend, had too much for Aspinall, closing out his second nightly win to keep the pressure on Luke Humphries at the top of the table. Earlier Humphries, the world No 1, had hit a nine-darter in his quarter-final defeat by Rob Cross, who then also produced a perfect leg as he was later edged out 6-5 by Aspinall.

Rangers fan dies in Istanbul traffic accident before Europa League game

A Rangers supporter has died in a road traffic accident in Istanbul before the team’s Europa League last-16 game with Fenerbahce at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

The Ibrox club announced the news in a statement on Thursday morning. “We are devastated to have learned of the passing of one of our supporters in a road traffic accident overnight in Istanbul,” it read. “The immediate thoughts of everyone at the club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

New Zealand smash South Africa to set up Champions Trophy final with India

New Zealand will take on India in the final of the Champions Trophy after centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson enabled them to outmuscle South Africa in their Lahore semi-final.

The Black Caps piled on the pressure with a tournament-record score of 362 for six, Ravindra with 108 and Williamson adding 102, and their bowlers finished the job in clinical fashion to seal a comfortable 50-run win.
