Gov. Kathy Hochul vetoed legislation -- inspired by the vicious stabbing murder of EMS Lt. Alison Russo in 2022 -- that would require the FDNY's EMS units responding to 911 emergency medical calls be staffed by two qualified medical first responders.

Socialist Zohran Mamdani skirted tough questions and offered few specifics as he smoothly swatted off a barrage of attacks from ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo during a heated first general mayoral election debate Thursday.

Both Cuomo and Sliwa clearly hoped to make a splash in the debate as polls consistently showed the Mamdani holding onto a double-digit lead heading into November’s election.
