Stylish indie ‘Skate Story’ to join PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium day-one

Despite never promising as much, Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service has on a semi-regular basis added day-one releases to its library of titles. Following on from the likes of FBC: Firebreak; Tales of Kenzera: ZAU and The Rogue Prince of Persia, the highly-unique and visually striking ‘Skate Story’ is set to Join PS Plus on day-one next month.

In a lengthy blogpost detailing the game itself, its mechanics, and the fact that “you’re a skateboarding demon made of glass and pain” Sony officially announced that Skate Story will launch on PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium as a day-one addition on the 8th of December.

Though somewhat hard to describe, Skate Story appears to be a bit of a blend between the likes of Tetris Effect / REZ, the rhythm game ‘Thumper’ and skateboarding – with a bunch of unique elements sprinkled on top.

Beyond the gameplay, Stake Story does focus (unsurprisingly) on its narrative, which features a wide variety of odd characters including “floating skulls, a pillowy demon…a giant frog…a large talking trash bag” and more.

On vibes alone, Skate Story looks to be a fun time. That said, it appears as though there is much more to this game and its world, and so it will be interesting to find out exactly what Stake Story is all about when it launches on the 8th of December. If you want an early taste, a demo is available to download.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Stake Story’s concept? Is it more than just a flashy skateboarding game? Do you appreciate Sony continuing to add day-one indies to PS Plus? Let us know down below.

New Helldivers 2 Warbond introduces the Maxigun, a flamethrowing drone and more

Helldivers 2 has easily been one of PlayStation’s most successful live-service projects, with the co-op shooter continuing to see a consistent playerbase thanks to the addition of new players alongside a stream of additional content. Going live next week, Helldivers 2’s latest ‘Python Commandos’ Premium Warbond introduces a ton of additional firepower including a minigun, new stratagems and more.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Katherine Baskin wrote:

“Helldivers, high-ranking officials in the Ministry of Defense have accused you of being the best. And if you’re the best, then you’re going to need to be outfitted with the best, which is why the Ministry has fast-tracked the deployment of the Python Commandos Premium Warbond – arriving to your Super Destroyers on December 2!”

As with all Warbonds, ‘Python Commandos’ will feature a mixture of new weapons, strategems, armour, capes and more, including but not limited to:

  • M-1000 Maxigun (minigun stratagem)
  • AX/FLAM-75 ‘Guard Dog’ Hot Dog (flamethrower-equipped drone stratagem)
  • CQC-9 Defoliation Tool (stratagem)
  • AR/GL-21 One-Two (hybrid assault rifle / grenade launcher primary weapon)
  • RS-20 Constrictor light armour set
  • RS-40 Best of Prey heavy armour set
  • Two new capes
  • New patterns (camos) and emotes

Though far from the most content-rich or transformative Warbond, this latest update continues to add plenty of new toys to play with in order to suit your own personal style of liberation.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this latest Warbond? How has Arrow Head / Helldivers 2 been in 2025? Can the game continue to sustain itself for the long-run? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Destiny 2 survey hints at a ton of potential future features

Bungie is in a bit of an awkward spot right now, with Destiny 2 being in arguably its lowest point ever in the lead-up to their Star Wars-themed Renegades expansion while Marathon continues to try and find its identity through closed play tests. Though unlikely to amount to anything major, a new survey sent out by Bungie seems to hint at a bunch of potential positive changes which could come to Destiny 2.

As reported by the publication TheGamePost, Bungie sent out a closed, invite-only survey to a select number of Destiny 2 players alongside the promise of 500 Silver currency for taking part.

Though purely a hypothetical proposition, Bungie did ask participants to select from a list of “potential features to be added to Destiny 2” – which included but is not limited to:

  • New Stasis & Strand abilities
  • New, simplified Portal scoring system
  • New Void melee abilities
  • A Sparrow Racing League event or playlist
  • A New Gambit mode or Gambit event
  • Added old campaigns and other activities to the Portal
  • New PvP Modes
  • Unvaulted expansion campaigns such as Red War and Forsaken
  • New Clan Upgrade & Progression system
  • NPC Sidekicks to equip and fight alongside your guardian
  • More random encounters with other players while adventuring
  • New Onboarding Experience

Destiny Survey

Like those listed above, the full and complete set of options covers a wide gamut of the Destiny playerbase, addressing everything from those who enjoy the PvP side of things, to the long-forgotten PvPvE Gambit players; quality-of-life improvements; vaulting issues and much more.

While in a perfect world all of these features and more would already be present in Destiny 2, we unfortunately do not live in such a place – and so we’ll be lucky if ANY of the proposed features find their way into reality.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: Where are you when it comes to Destiny 2 in 2025? Do you have hope in Renegades? What one feature/change/addition would you like to see introduced ASAP to Destiny 2? Let us know down below.

Long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake to release soon

Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has had an unfortunate development. First announced in late 2020 alongside a January 2021 launch date, reactions to the announcement trailer were far from positive, leading the publisher to delay the title. Since then, the Sands of Time remake has been delayed, delayed again, switched developers, delayed, rebooted, and then finally re-revealed in 2024 (with a couple more delays sprinkled in). The journey may finally be over soon however, with the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake said to be launching as soon as this January.

As reported by known leakers Insider-Gaming, Ubisoft has penned a release window for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake in mid-January of 2026.

Interestingly, we have yet to see anything from the game ever since its initial (now redundant) trailer – with the The Sands of Time Remake’s re-reveal offering little more than a cinematic logo unveiling alongside the vague release year of 2026.

Sands of Time January

That said, the publisher did recently comment on the project, stating back in June that “we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose. This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they're pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.”

Additionally, Ubisoft revealed during their Fiscal Earnings report back in May that The Sands of Time Remake is planned to arrive during the Fiscal Year 2025-26 (April 2025 – March 2026), lending further credence to this newly-reported release window.

Given the overwhelming reaction to their first attempt at a Sands of Time remake, it will be interesting to see how this rebooted project winds up looking like. Hopefully we will get our first proper taste of the title during the upcoming 2025 Game Awards.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to the Sands of Time remake? What did you think of their first attempt? Can this remake live up to expectations? Let us know down below.

Black Ops 7 Season 1 full content roadmap revealed

As we close in on the first couple post-launch weeks for Call of Duty Black Ops 7, the team at Treyarch have been slowly but surely teasing their plans for Season 1. Described as “biggest Season 01 ever” a full content roadmap has been shared, featuring a ton of new additions across every single mode.

Taking to their blog to detail the upcoming update, Black Ops 7 Season 1 officially arrives on the 4th of December and will bring with it far more than can be listed here. The full roadmap can be found HERE, but some of the most notable additions include:

Endgame

  • 4 new world events
  • 8 new exotic skills
  • New Phantom skill track
  • CODmas limited-time event

Multiplayer

  • 4 brand new maps
  • 3 remastered maps
  • 5 returning game modes
  • 1 new game mode
  • 2 limited-time game modes
  • 1 new scorestreak and 8 returning streaks
  • Half a dozen returning field upgrades / equipment from BO6

Zombies

  •  Astra Malorum main zombies map
    • Featuring new traps, a wonder weapon, main quest and more
  • Exit 115 Survival map
  • Zarya Cosmodrome Survival map
  • Ashes of the Damned Directed mode
  • Jingle Hells LTM
  • Mule Kick perk with new augments
  • 5 returning field upgrades / ammo mods with new augments
  • Leaderboard events
  • New Gobblegums

Warzone

  • Full integration with Black Ops 7
  • New Verdansk POIs
  • Revamped perks
  • Haven’s Hollow Resurgence map
  • CODmas LTM

Of course, alongside these mode specific pieces of content, Season 1 also brings with it a bunch of game-wide additions, including but not limited to:

  • 7 new weapons
  • 6 new attachments for existing weapons
  • Weekly challenges
  • Limited events
  • Seasonal camos
  • S01 Battle Pass

As mentioned, the blog post itself is incredibly lengthy and goes into far more depth regarding all aspects of each addition (including changes made to Battle Pass XP earn rates, challenge rewards and more).

Black Ops 7 is in an interesting spot right now. While the game itself represents a strong entry for Call of Duty, years of anti-consumer practices and a lack of listening to fans has tainted the series – with BO7 feeling the brunt of this.

That said, there is no denying that Treyarch seems to be trying their best to address fan complaints, and Season 1 appears to be another solid step in this direction. Whether it will be enough to turn the tides, we will have to wait and see when Season 1 launches on the 4th of December.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows x Attack on Titan officially announced

When you think of video game crossovers, one series which does not come to people’s mind is Assassin’s Creed. Despite this, the Ubisoft-published franchise has collaborated with a number of interesting franchises in the past. That said, in a highly unexpected announcement, the latest Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to crossover with none other than the popular anime series Attack on Titan.

Making the surprise announcement, the team at Ubisoft officially unveiled their upcoming collab – Assassin’s Creed Shadows x Attack on Titan. Set to go live on the 25th of November (today), this limited-time crossover will be available until the 15th of December and will include a new free quest to complete.

As expected however, if you wanted to get your hands on the Mikasa-themed cosmetic skin for Naoe, you’ll have to pay up (though no price has been provided so far).

As mentioned, this isn’t the first time that Assassin’s Creed has crossed over with another franchise, with the likes of AC Origins offering a Final Fantasy collab back in 2018 and Shadows itself having already crossed over with Dead by Daylight earlier this year.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is an important title for Ubisoft, with the game said to have been a bit of a make or break moment for the publisher prior to its release. Whether an Attack on Titan crossover will make a major difference in this regard, we will have to wait and see, but it is welcome at the very least to see the quest itself being included for free.

Live-action Far Cry TV show adaptation officially announced

In the lead up to each new Far Cry title, Ubisoft have released a short film or two to give fans a taste of what to expect from the next entry in this now-iconic series. That said, in a surprise announcement (though it was leaked a while back), a full proper Far Cry TV show has now been greenlit – with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob Mac set to star in the project.

As reported by the publication Variety, distribution company FX has now greenlit a series adaptation of Ubisoft’s Far Cry video game series. While details remain light at the moment, the show is seemingly set to comprise multiple seasons and will “follow an anthology format like the games and feature a different cast and setting each season.”

Speaking of the cast, Rob Mac (formerly McElhenney) is set to serve as co-creator, executive producer and will star in the show – though his role has not yet been confirmed.

Far Cry

Given the fact that the show will consist of multiple Seasons in an anthology-like format, it will be interesting to see whether the series will directly adapt each game’s story/narrative, or whether it’ll simply be used more for inspiration.

Additionally, Rob Mac as an actor is known best for his comedic roles, and so the shift to what will likely be a more serious tone is worthy of note. Speaking on the project, Mac stated: “Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support.”

Full comments from Rob Mac; co-creator Noah Hawley; FX and more can be found HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this announcement? How would you like a Far Cry show to be structured? Would you like them to directly adapt the games’ stories? Let us know down below.

Ghost of Yotei update adds VRR support; 40fps mode; NewGame+ and much more

Last week, the team at Sucker Punch Productions announced that they would be releasing a major patch for Ghost of Yotei, featuring a bunch of new additions including NewGame+; a harder difficulty option; new cosmetics and more. Available right now, patch 1.1 actually brings with it much more than expected – including a bunch of new graphics options; quality of life improvements; VRR support and more.

Releasing the patch notes to their support site, the team at Sucker Punch Productions officially detailed update 1.1 for Ghost of Yotei. Available to download now, the patch includes all of the previously-announced additions, namely:

  • NewGame+
  • Ghost Flower Vendor
  • Harder difficulty option
  • Extra trophies to earn
  • Photo mode expansion
  • New weapon upgrades
  • Replay option

While all of this is of course welcome to see, patch 1.1 brings a number of even more exciting additions which they did not mention previously, including:

  • VRR support (smoothed or uncapped)
  • New 40fps ‘Balanced’ and ‘Ray Tracing Balanced’ graphics mode
  • Fall damage toggle
  • Auto-loot enemies toggle
  • Additional loadout slot
  • More controller customisation
  • Option to display a visual indicator when being led by gold birds, foxes, and the wolf

Many first-party PlayStation titles have offered similarly significant 1.1 updates in the months following their initial release. Even so, it is welcome to see Ghost of Yotei continuing this trend while also offering even more than initially promised.

KitGuru says: Have you been waiting for this update? Will you be hopping into NewGame+? Is 40fps a good sweet spot for you performance-wise? Let us know down below.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Season 1 release date officially announced

While the team at Treyarch have made a ton of positive changes with the launch of Black Ops 7, the Call of Duty name is currently far from its peak, with the highly successful launch of Battlefield 6 serving as an interesting point of contrast. Even so, Treyarch have been teasing that Black Ops 7 will have a massive Season 1, with the post-launch update officially set to arrive in a little over a week’s time.

Even prior to the official launch of Black Ops 7, Treyarch began to tease their content roadmap for the game’s first Season, confirming a number of upcoming additions including:

  • 6 new multiplayer maps
  • 7 additional weapons
  • New main Zombies map (Astra Malorum)
  • Two Zombies Survival maps (Exit 115 and Zarya Cosmodrome)

Black Ops 7 Season 1

While we have yet to receive the full entire roadmap, the team have started to offer some more details, taking to Twitter to confirm that Season 1 will officially launch on the 4th of December.

As mentioned, Call of Duty is in a bit of an awkward spot right now. While Black Ops 7 is in many ways objectively one of the best Call of Duty entries in recent years, sentiment surrounding the franchise as a whole has fallen off a cliff somewhat.

As such, it will be interesting to see whether “the biggest Season 01 ever” will be enough to shift the general sentiment. We won’t have to wait long to find out.

Long-rumoured Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake reportedly launching in March

Back in early 2024, a rumour first popped up claiming that Ubisoft had greenlit the development of an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake. Since then, we’ve heard various bits and bobs surrounding the project – including the extent to which they plan to alter the game’s overall formula. Though still yet to be officially announced, insiders have claimed that AC’s Black Flag Remake is slated to arrive in just a few months.

As reported by known industry leakers Insider-Gaming, the long-rumoured yet-still-unannounced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake could be arriving in just a few months time – more specifically before the end of March 2026.

This follows on from comments by Ubisoft themselves who recently revealed that they have an unannounced project scheduled to arrive before the end of the fiscal year (aka. the 31st of March 2026).

Going into slightly more depth, the leakers stated that this Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake is “scheduled to release the week of March 23rd” (most likely on Tuesday or Friday).

Black Flag Remake

As mentioned, this is far from the first time we’ve heard of a Black Flag remake, with previous reports claiming that quite a few changes are being made, including but not limited to:

  • Removing all of the modern day elements from the game
  • Edward having his own loot and gear stats
  • Combat being less ‘choreographed’ than the original
  • A more dense map with fewer loading screens

Of course, we will have to wait for an official announcement before jumping to conclusions. That said, given how close the remake seemingly is to its release, we might finally get an unveiling during this year’s Game Awards.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to the Black Flag remake? Can it live up to the original? What are your thoughts on the leaked details so far? Let us know down below.

Street Fighter 6 officially surpasses 6 million copies sold

Following the somewhat controversial release of Street Fighter V, Capcom came back bigger and better with the arrival of Street Fighter 6 in June of 2023. Since launch, the latest entry in the much-loved fighting game franchise has continued to consistently sell well, with Street Fighter 6 having now officially surpassed 6 million copies sold.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the game’s official page confirmed that Street Fighter 6 “has now sold over 6 million units worldwide! Our utmost gratitude to everyone who has hit the streets and to all those who will soon join us.”

For context, Street Fighter 6 managed to sell 1 million copies in its first 3 days on the market back in June 2023 – going on to push to 2 million by the end of its first month. By January of 2024 SF6 had surpassed 3 million copies.

Street Fighter 6 6 million

Capcom then announced in September of 2024 that SF6 had reached a total of 4 million. This figure was then increased to 5 million earlier in June of this year. Of course, now 5 months later and Street Fighter 6 has officially sold 6 million copies.

That said, the game still has a ways to go in order to meet expectations, with Capcom’s President claiming prior to the game’s release that they hope Street Fighter 6 will reach 10 million copies when all is said and done.

Given that Capcom still has plenty of post-launch support planned for Street Fighter 6, it could very well hit its target within the coming years.

Fallout 4 update aims to fix some of what Bethesda broke with its Anniversary Edition

If Bethesda is known for one thing, it’s featuring a ton of bugs in its games. Luckily, dedicated modders have for years kept the likes of Fallout 4 stable with countless mods, bug fixes and other optimisations – a majority of which were recently broken thanks to Fallout 4’s controversial Anniversary update. Just a few weeks later and a double-edged sword of an announcement has been made, with Fallout 4 set to receive yet another update which many fans have not been asking for.

Taking to their steam page to make the announcement, the team at Bethesda Game Studios unveiled a new update coming to Fallout 4 which should fix many of the issues introduced with the recent Anniversary update – including but not limited to:

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when selecting ‘Purchase Credits' on PC
  • Fixed a crash when selecting ‘Download all owned Creation Club Creations’
  • Switching Xbox user profiles no longer causes softlocks or loss of controls
  • Performance improvements in the Creations menu across platforms
  • Fixed softlocking when entering/exiting the Creations menu repeatedly
  • Players can now like/unlike creations in the Load Order menu as intended

Fallout 4 Update

The full list of patch notes can be found HERE and does include plenty of welcome fixes. That said, as mentioned this update will once again break a ton of key mods which Fallout 4 fans have used for years now.

Response to the update has been rather negative, with many Steam users expressing frustration at the fact that their mods will once again be broken while offering little in the way of benefits. Of course, users on PC can block Fallout 4 from updating in order to preserve their games, but regardless it is becoming quite clear that fans have started to tire of Bethesda’s cycle.

KitGuru says: Will you be updating your Fallout 4 copy? Should Bethesda stop messing with the game or should they try to fix the problems that they caused with the previous update? Let us know down below.

You can finally send gifts to friends through the Epic Games Store

Back at the start of 2025, Epic Games released their annual year-in-review, revealing a ton of stats from the past 12 months, including the fact that the storefront was nearing a total user base of 300 million. In looking forwards towards the future, Epic confirmed that game gifting would be coming to the platform at some point. The future is now finally here, with Epic announcing that “Gifting is live on the Epic Games Store.”

Making the official announcement on their blog, the Epic Games Store team finally unveiled this long-awaited feature, writing:

“Gifting is live on the Epic Games Store. Players can now purchase and send games directly to friends on their Epic friends list, making it easier to celebrate special occasions, share favorite titles, or just surprise a friend with a new game.”

As with many Epic Games Store transactions, gifting a friend with a game will net you Epic Rewards which can then be further used for gifting (or whatever else you wish to use them for).

Epic Games Gifting

Going into specifics, Epic explained that “recipients have 14 days to accept the gift. If they already own the game, the gift cannot be accepted, and the purchase is refunded. Gifts can also be rejected, in which case the sender will receive a refund.”

Finally, Epic made sure to note that not everything on its store can be gifted, with free games; pre-purchase offers; subscriptions; and in-game currency or other consumable items being ineligible.

Of course, gifting has been available on other PC storefronts/launchers for years now, and so this addition is nothing new. That said, it is encouraging nonetheless to see the feature finally available on the Epic Games Store.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the Epic Games Store in 2025? Is it a robust enough platform at this point? What other missing features would you like to see introduced next? Let us know down below.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has officially sold 4 million copies

Dragon’s Dogma is one of Capcom’s more interesting franchises. While the first game failed to set the world on fire due to a variety of reasons, it managed to achieve cult-hit status in the years following – eventually leading to the surprise announcement and release of a sequel last year. Though the game suffered from a similar number of issues, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has continued to find new audiences, with the game having now officially sold over 4 million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Dragon’s Dogma team wrote: “Thank you to the 4 million Arisen around the world! We’re grateful to share the immersive fantasy world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 with you all, where freedom and adventure await.”

While this represents just over half of the total sales witnessed with the first entry in the series (7.9 million), the original Dragon’s Dogma launched all the way back in 2012 compared to DD2’s arrival back in March of 2024.

Dogma 2 million

For some further context, Dragon’s Dogma 2 was confirmed to have surpassed 2.5 million copies back in early April of last year – less than two weeks after the game’s official launch.

Of course, as mentioned, the game was far from perfect, with players noting a plethora of both visual and performance issues at launch, leading to an overall ‘mixed’ rating on Steam.

Despite this, it appears as though the unique series has continued to find an audience. Whether it will manage to surpass the first game’s total sales, we will have to wait and see, but so far Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to be on a solid sales trajectory.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Dragon’s Dogma 2? Are the various issues a dealbreaker to you? Will we ever get a Dragon’s Dogma 3? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Tales of Berseria Remastered announced for PS5, PC, Series X|S and Switch

The ‘Tales' franchise is a long-running though oft-forgotten series of JRPGs which started its life all the way back in 1995. In the 30 years since, we’ve seen well over a dozen titles released across a plethora of platforms. While the last mainline entry ‘Tales of Arise’ launched back in 2021, publisher Bandai Namco has kept the series alive with a bunch of remasters; the latest of which will see 2016’s Tales of Berseria come to modern platforms – including Xbox and Switch for the first time.

Releasing a surprise announcement trailer, Bandai Namco officially unveiled Tales of Berseria Remastered. Set to launch on the 27th of February 2026 for the PlayStation 5; PC and for the first time the Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, the remaster includes the base game alongside its MANY different cosmetic DLCs (aside from some select licensed items).

Beyond this, not much was shared regarding enhancements, with the only confirmed improvements being the addition of “new quality-of-life updates including destination icon, the ability to toggle encounters, early grade shop access, and more!”

Interestingly, it appears as though Berseria Remastered has been developed with the OG Switch in mind – at least when it comes to Nintendo consoles – with Bandai noting that “we are currently testing compatibility of the Nintendo Switch 2.”

While the Tales of series may feel daunting due to the sheer number of entries, a majority of the titles are able to be played and understood as standalone experiences, and so if you have not tried Tales of Berseria, this upcoming remaster presents a great opportunity to do so.

Tales of Berseria Remastered arrives on the 27th of February 2026 for the relatively low price of £34.99.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the Tales of series? Which entry is your favourite? What other enhancements do you hope to see included with this remaster? Let us know down below.

Borderlands 4’s first DLC pack is now being given away to all players for free

Borderlands 4 is in many ways the best entry in the series while also suffering from a ton of issues – both technically but also content-wise. Following a highly disappointing free Halloween event, Gearbox has made some alterations to its DLC plans – now making the first ‘Bounty Pack’ free for all to claim.

Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Gearbox wrote: “It's a Mercenary Day miracle! We’re making the first Bounty Pack for Borderlands 4 free for all players! And we’re just getting started.”

Going into more depth, the team confirmed that those who bought Borderlands 4’s Seasonal DLC will still receive the promised 4 paid packs, with a new 5th Bounty Pack being announced to replace the now-free offering.

In addition to this, the team offered some updates on their future endgame content plans, revealing that “we've started development on Takedown content that will be included in a free update for all players in 2026. In this Takedown, you can expect an extremely challenging gauntlet through a new area, including hordes of enemies and new boss encounters.”

As mentioned, Borderlands 4 has been a bit of a mixed bag so far. While the gameplay, world and overall RPG mechanics have seen substantial improvements, its endgame content; free updates and performance leave a lot to be desired – and so it is encouraging to see the team trying to make right by the fans. It will be interesting to see what this new 5th pack winds up featuring.

Mafia: The Old Country ‘Free Ride Update’ officially arrives today

Mafia: The Old Country released earlier this year to a solid amount of praise – with one of its biggest detractors being the game’s redundant-feeling open world zone. As was promised, the team have now released a new free expansion improving on this aspect, with the Free Ride Update officially available from today.

Making the announcement, the team at Hangar 13 officially detailed today’s free update, writing: “Free Ride is a callback to the original Mafia’s Free Ride Extreme, as well as the Free Ride mode we shipped in Mafia: Definitive Edition. It’s a collection of Challenges separate from the main story that give players chances to revisit the world in a more self-guided way.”

Going into more depth, they continued, “This time, we’ve constructed several kinds of repeatable Challenges—including combat, stealth, and different race types—in a variety of new and familiar locations. Completing Challenges will earn you the Dinari in-game currency to spend on the new outfits, charms, weapons, and vehicles unlocked by progressing through this content (as well as on items unlocked via the campaign).”

Beyond this, the update is also said to include “a number of other fresh and exciting features” – though this was not elaborated upon.

Full details on the Free Ride update (including the developers’ thoughts on the addition of first-person driving, visual filters and more) can be found HERE, but for those who already own the game you might want to hop in and discover all the additions/improvements for yourself.

EA labels Battlefield 6 “the best selling shooter game of the year”

Following the disappointment that was Battlefield 2042, EA / DICE came back bigger and stronger than ever with the recent release of Battlefield 6. While the game is already a certified success, EA themselves have now claimed Battlefield 6 to be “the best selling shooter game of the year.”

As discovered by Call of Duty leaker CharlieIntel, the main Battlefield 6 page on EA’s website has been updated with a new description.

While in and of itself nothing worthy of note, the updated page states that “There's never been a better time to jump into the best selling shooter game of the year” – the first official confirmation that BF6 has taken the top spot.

For context, it was already reported that Battlefield 6 managed to achieve the biggest launch in franchise history, with the game having sold over 10 million copies since its official launch back in late October.

Battlefield 6 Shooter

Of course, we would be remiss not to mention the Call of Duty sized elephant in the room, with Treyarch’s Black Ops 7 having arrived just last week – though to a middling reception on PC at least.

That said, even the worst CODs have historically ended up taking the top spot in the best-sellers list each year, and so we will have to wait and see whether Black Ops 7 winds up outpacing Battlefield 6 by the end of 2025. So far however, Battlefield seems to be leading the pack.

Last-gen version of The Finals to be “retired” in March 2026

2026 appears to be the year in which last-gen support could finally be winding down, with multiple live-service titles announcing that they will no longer update their games on PS4 / Xbox One come next year. Joining this ever-growing list is Embark Studios’ The Finals – with the PS4 version set to be discontinued this upcoming March.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the team at Embark Studios confirmed that the PS4 version of The Finals (which actually launched AFTER the current-gen versions) will soon be discontinued, writing:

“When Season 10 begins (18th of March, 2026), we'll be retiring THE FINALS on PlayStation 4 and focusing our support on current generation hardware.”

Of course, being an online game, players will be able to continue playing elsewhere, with Embark noting “your progress and purchases will be stored in your Embark ID and will transfer to anywhere you choose to play.”

The Finals Last-gen

As mentioned, The Finals is far from the first game to be ceasing last-gen support, with PUBG: Battlegrounds officially moving over to current-gen just last week (and Genshin Impact set to do the same in April of next year).

It will be interesting to see whether The Finals’ switch to current-gen only will allow for more ambitious updates in the future. We will have to wait and find out.

Ghost of Yotei NewGame+ mode arrives next week

Prior to the game’s official release, the team at Sucker Punch Productions revealed that they plan to support Ghost of Yotei in a similar manner to the previous Ghost of Yotei. While fans will have to wait until next year to get their hands on the promised multiplayer Legends Mode, a major free update is set to arrive early next week – adding a NewGame+ option, extra cosmetics and more.

Making the official announcement on the PlayStation Blog, the Senior Communications Manager at Sucker Punch Productions ‘Andrew Goldfarb’ wrote:

“On November 24, a free patch for all Ghost of Yōtei players will introduce New Game Plus, allowing you to replay Atsu’s quest for vengeance from the beginning with everything you earned throughout the campaign. Yes, that means it’s time to bring a gun to a sword fight, with all of the armors, abilities, and weapons from your first playthrough available from the start of the game.“

Beyond being able to play through the story with all of your upgrades unlocked, the NewGame+ mode introduces quite a lot in the way of new content, including by not limited to:

  • A new harder difficulty
  • Two additional Trophies to earn (most likely tied to the new difficulty and NG+)
  • New Ghost Flower currency
    • Used to obtain additional armour sets, weapon dyes and charms
  • The ability to “earn an additional tier of upgrades for your existing armor sets and weapons”

Outside of NewGame+, the update also introduces a number of quality-of.-life improvements, such as:

  • Being able to replay post-game content with new player stats
  • More accessibility options
  • Photo mode expansion with shutter speed, composition grid and more

Ghost of Yotei has had a strong launch so far, matching that of Tsushima despite being available on fewer systems. With this upcoming update arriving so soon (and the multiplayer Legends mode slated for early next year), Atsu still has a ways to go before completing her journey.

Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2 WON’T support mouse mode

One of the biggest new innovations seen with the Nintendo Switch 2 is the console’s mouse mode feature – allowing you to turn your Joy-Con onto its side and slide it around like a PC peripheral. While some games have made use of the feature, one title which will not is Resident Evil Requiem; with the game’s producer claiming to have “tried really hard to implement mouse controls for Nintendo Switch 2.”

A major supporter of Nintendo in recent years has been Capcom, with the game developer / publisher releasing a bunch of titles for the OG Switch throughout its lifecycle.

Easily the biggest Capcom game coming to Switch 2 so far is Resident Evil Requiem – coming day-and-date with all other systems in February of 2026.

In an interview with the publication PressStart, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa was asked about the upcoming game’s Switch 2 release and whether they suffered from any issues during development. According to Kumazawa:

“Looking back on Switch, there were Resident Evil games before on the Switch, so what we did, is we used the past experience of developing these games on the Switch to help develop Nintendo Switch 2. But also, we made a lot of versions of the games for PC as well. In fitting with PCs that have a wide variety of specs, we could also just make sure the game was optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 too. So it wasn’t too hard, so to speak.”

Resident Evil Mouse Mode

While it appears so far as though the Switch 2 version should be able to keep up with the rest of the systems, Requiem will not be making use of one of the Switch 2’s most unique features, with Kumazawa adding:

“We tried really hard to implement mouse controls for Nintendo Switch 2. When we put it in, it confused the gameplay and became too complicated. So actually, we are using gyro instead.”

Of course, the inclusion of gyro controls is welcome to see, however it would be interesting to know exactly how mouse mode ‘confused the gameplay’. Perhaps Requiem requires heavy use of the face buttons? We will have to wait and see, but hopefully developers are able to find useful implementations of the Switch 2’s mouse mode as the generation progresses.

Twisted Metal Season 3 has been greenlit by Peacock

One of the biggest surprise hits from the recent rise in adaptations of video games into film/TV was Peacock’s Twisted Metal. Released back in 2023, a second Season was quickly greenlit – arriving just a few months ago. It appears as though Peacock is not done however, with a Season 3 of Twisted Metal now being officially announced,

As reported by the publication Variety, a 3rd Season of Peacock’s Twisted Metal series has been greenlit. This perhaps is not too surprising given the success of the show itself, with July’s Season 2 amassing almost a Billion minutes of watch time – not bad for a show based on a decades old IP with no new entries.

That said, while the series is set to return, its creator will not, with the publication confirming that Twisted Metal’s co-creator and showrunner ‘Michael Jonathan Smith’ has exited the project.

Twisted Metal Peacock

This hopefully should not impact development however, with David Reed (known best for working on The Boys) already announced to be taking over the role of showrunner and executive producer.

As mentioned, the original Season 1 for Twisted Metal was a surprise hit, especially given the less-than-stellar reception towards the show prior to its release.

With two successful Seasons under its belt now (and a third on the way), here’s to hoping that Sony realises the potential within the Twisted Metal franchise.

Sonic Frontiers, Forspoken and more leaving PlayStation Plus Extra in December

With Sony’s PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium titles for the month of November now out and available for subscribers to claim, the console maker has confirmed the list of titles which will be removed from the service next month. In a rather major exodus, PS Plus is set to lose a number of notable games, including Sonic Frontiers; Forspoken; GTA 3 Definitive Edition and more.

In going to the last chance to play section on the PlayStation 5’s PS Plus tab, subscribers can find a list of 9 titles which are set to be removed from the service next month (likely mid-December:

  • Battlefield 2042
  • GTA 3 Definitive Edition
  • Arcade Paradise VR
  • Sonic Frontiers
  • Forspoken
  • Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy's Edge
  • Firefighting Simulator The Squad
  • Surviving Mars
  • Star Trek Bridge Crew

PlayStation Sonic

While some of these are not too unexpected (such as the removal of Battlefield 2042), Sonic Frontiers leaving the service is certainly a blow to PS Plus.

In addition, while the game’s story and dialogue left a lot to be desired, Forspoken features a fun and unique combat scheme which could be enough of a reason to give the game a go ahead of its removal.

Beyond this, it is disappointing to once again see a number of PSVR2 titles being removed, with Arcade Paradise VR in particular being an unfortunate departee (as well as Star Trek Bridge Crew).

As mentioned however, you still have around a month’s time to play/complete these games before they are removed.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition gets surprise Switch and Switch 2 launch

While fans continue to wait for the next mainline entry in Crystal Dynamic’s Tomb Raider series, the franchise itself has been far from quiet – with Lara Croft having received remasters of previous games, an animated Netflix series and the announcement of a live-action show. In another return to past titles, 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot has now been announced and released for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Developed in partnership with Aspyr, 2013’s Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has been officially announced for the Nintendo Switch and its successor.

Available right now for the price of $19.99 (or $17.99 as part of a launch promotion), the Definitive Edition includes all of the original game’s content, even its oft-forgotten multiplayer mode.

While we did not get any technical specifications, seeing as how Tomb Raider (2013) originally released for the 7th generation of consoles, both the Switch (and especially the Switch 2) should run the game with no issues.

This does beg the question as to whether the Definitive Edition will also be ported over to other modern systems. As mentioned, Tomb Raider was originally a PS3 / Xbox 360 title.

Though it did see some enhancements with the release of the Definitive Edition for the PS4 / Xbox One, the game could certainly benefit from at least a 4K60fps update on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

We will have to wait and see, but given that they have now released the first entry in a trilogy on the Switch, expect Rise and Shadow of the Tomb Raider to be next in line for a port.
