C’est en plein milieu de la nuit pour nous européens que Meta a décidé de mettre les pieds dans le plat : en plus de présenter les Ray-Ban Meta 2 (qui ne sont qu’une mise à jour pour rattraper les Oakley récemment sorties), la firme de Mark Zuckerberg a présenté les Ray-Ban Meta Display, premières lunettes avec écran intégré.
Meta lance donc ses lunettes à écran intégré (dans le verre droit précisément), au tarif de 799 dollars. Si déjà pour ce prix vous obtenez une grande première (si l’on omet la tentative des Google Glass, qui faisaient ressembler l’utilisateur à un Borg plus qu’à autre chose), les binocles se veulent en plus relativement utiles, comme l’indique Bloomberg : l’écran intégré peut afficher des messages écrits, des appels vidéos, des directions étape par étape pour le GPS, le résultat des recherches de l’intelligence artificielle de Meta, des photos, l’interface de contrôle des musiques ou encore le viseur pour l’appareil photo intégré.
Selon Andrew Bosworth, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) de Meta, ces lunettes sont « le type d’appareil qui vous permet de laisser de plus en plus votre téléphone dans votre poche au cours de la journée ». Même si pour le moment elles ont toujours besoin d’un téléphone pour fonctionner, le but est d’offrir un accès plus facile à l’information et aux fonctions habituelles d’un smartphone.
L’écran intégré, puisqu’il n’y en a qu’un, offre un angle de vision limité de 20 degrés, et une luminosité allant de 30 à 5 000 dits pour une résolution de 600x600 pixels. Selon Bloomberg, qui a pu tester les lunettes, cela suffit à la majorité des utilisations, qu’elles soient en extérieur ou en intérieur. Le plus surprenant, selon les retours de TheVerge, c’est le côté « invisible » pour l’entourage : même allumé, l’écran est totalement transparent pour l’extérieur, et aucune image n’est visible pour l’entourage. Seul l’utilisateur la voit.
Il est possible d’obtenir les lunettes avec une correction optique intégrée, mais cela reste limité à quelques possibilités et uniquement sur demande. L’appareil photo intégré a un capteur 12 MPixels, et permet l’enregistrement de vidéos 1080p.
Malgré l’ajout d’un écran, Meta indique une durée de la batterie de 6 heures par charge (dont 1 heure avec l'écran allumé), et le boîtier des lunettes permet 30 heures supplémentaires.
Pour contrôler toutes les fonctions, les Ray-Ban Meta Display intègrent un nouveau contrôleur : en plus de la fonction de « swipe » sur le cadre des lunettes comme sur les Ray-Ban Meta habituelles, elles ajoutent un bracelet permettant au porteur d’utiliser ses mains pour interagir avec l’interface.
Ainsi, l’utilisateur peut sélectionner un élément en pinçant le pouce et l'index, passer d’un élément à l’autre en glissant le pouce sur la main, ou encore taper deux fois avec le pouce pour invoquer l’assistant IA de Meta. Pour régler le volume et pour d’autres éléments de l’interface, il suffit de tourner sa main devant soi, comme on le ferait sur une molette de volume imaginaire.
Bien entendu, les lunettes incluent aussi la reconnaissance vocale. Ce qui leur permet, avec l’écran intégré, de proposer la traduction instantanée écrite, comme si des sous-titres vous étaient présentés. La fonction d’appel visio permet de voir l’interlocuteur sur le verre, pendant que celui-ci voit ce qui est devant vous. Il est aussi possible de répondre aux messages textuels par un enregistrement audio, ou en dictant la réponse, mais une autre méthode apparaîtra plus tard dans l’année : la possibilité de répondre en écrivant les lettres devant vous, grâce au bracelet. Concernant l’autonomie de ce dernier, sa batterie est donnée pour durer 18 heures.
L’arrivée de ces lunettes, en plus des versions standard Ray-Ban ou Oakley, montre que le partenariat entre Meta et EssilorLuxottica est particulièrement fort, même si la multinationale ne croyait pas tellement au produit dans un premier temps, hésitant à y placer sa marque phare, comme l’indique Andrew Bosworth :
La vérité, c’est que lorsque nous avons commencé ce projet, Ray-Ban n’était même pas sûr que cela serait suffisamment élégant pour être un produit Ray-Ban. Au départ, ce n’était censé être que des lunettes Meta Display. Et nous avons énormément travaillé pour en arriver à un point où ils se sont dit : « Oh, d’accord, en fait on peut vraiment envisager que ce soit un produit Ray-Ban ».
Si les Ray-Ban Meta Display seront disponibles à partir du 30 septembre au prix de 799 dollars, ce sera pour le moment uniquement dans certaines boutiques physiques, afin de mieux vérifier l’ajustement des lunettes et du bracelet pour chaque utilisateur.
Meta, qui semble ne plus s’arrêter dans le domaine, en a profité pour investir fortement dans son partenaire : la firme de Mark Zuckerberg a ainsi pris 3 % de parts dans EssilorLuxottica, pour 3,5 milliards de dollars. Mais pour Andrew Bosworth, cet investissement est tout à fait normal et justifié :
Nous investissons beaucoup d’argent. Nous pensons qu’il s’agit d’un investissement dont nous attendons un retour. Nous pensons pouvoir y parvenir aussi bien du côté matériel que du côté logiciel et services.
Ces lunettes sont le premier test grandeur nature pour des binocles intelligentes à écran intégré : la firme prévoit d’en vendre 100 000 d’ici la fin 2026. Il faut dire qu'elle se limitera à quelques pays pour le moment : les USA au départ, puis la France, le Canada, l’Italie et la Grande-Bretagne courant 2026. Bien entendu, les prochaines versions arriveront par la suite, améliorant l’écran intégré, puis en ajoutant un second sur l’autre verre pour proposer une interface en 3D naturelle. La firme pense à un futur App Store pour ses lunettes, mais ça n’arrivera pas avant quelques temps : le SoC intégré n’a pour le moment pas les capacités nécessaires à gérer des apps tierces (contrairement aux versions sans écran qui s’ouvrent maintenant aux développeurs).
Meta a encore de nombreux projets dans les cartons concernant la réalité augmentée, selon son CTO. Avec pourquoi pas, un jour, des lentilles de contact à la place des lunettes. Si cela relève encore de la science-fiction, « Nous ne mettons de côté aucune option » rappelle Alex Himel, l’ingénieur responsable de l’équipe Reality Labs de Meta.

Meta held its annual Meta Connect event keynote today, hosted by Meta CEO and standard human Mark Zuckerberg. Included in its event were new smartglasses, including the new Meta Ray-Ban Display smartglasses that actually feature a built-in display, along with a pair of Oakley-branded “Meta Vanguard” smartglasses that wrap around your face and feature a dead-center camera.
The Ray-Ban Display features a heads-up-display embedded within the right-hand lens. The company teased them at the start of the presentation, seemingly livestreaming a video from Zuckerberg’s point of view as he walked to the event stage, with overlays showing things like his currently playing music and people sending text messages and images to him. Describing them later, he said they're the first smartglasses with a high-resolution display – they show images at 42 pixels per degree, a measure of pixel density in VR headsets – and that it's large enough to watch a video or read messages. Things like text messages will appear for a few seconds before disappearing, and you can look at pictures you've just taken with them. Naturally, they're AI-powered, so you can chat with Meta AI through them. They’re not full-on AR, so you won’t see the words on street signs morph or peoples’ names appear above their heads, Cyberpunk 2077-style, but they’re a step in that direction.
The Ray-Ban Display can be controlled with a new wristband device, called the Neural Band, that can interpret subtle movements from your hand. As part of that, Zuckerberg used his hand to mimic writing words out on a hard surface, generating text messages during a live demo. The company has been working on surface electromyography (sEMG) tech to pull off such a trick. The band's capability is similar to Apple Watch gestures like tapping your thumb and forefinger together to do basic things like answer calls. Time will tell how accurate it actually is in practice, but it looked impressive in an otherwise somewhat fraught demo that included Zuckerberg failing to answer a phone call.
Featuring that display is not without compromises. As seen in Meta’s demo of its Orion glasses last year, these new Ray-Bans need a lot more hardware to make a display work, and all that electronic junk has to go somewhere. That means very chunky frames that are 20 grams heavier than their screen-less predecessor, although Meta clearly did its best to move as much as it could to the temples. It’ll be key for the company to have balanced this right, as those sensitive to weight might not be able to stand them. They may not look out of place on your standard Jeff Goldblum head, but for the average person who isn’t used to calling that much attention to their face or bearing that much weight on their nose and ears, they’ll test just how adeptly life, uh, finds a way. The Ray-Ban Display will come in two colors – black and tan – and will be available September 30th for $799.
Then there are the Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses. They look more utilitarian than the existing Oakley Meta HSTN, departing from the Ray-Ban-like frames and taking on a sportier, wraparound design with bright, reflective tint and a big camera embedded in the center. The idea here is that these would be better for folks like cyclists, who might want a centered camera for taking video of their workouts, and value blocking sunlight in their peripheral vision too. The Oakleys are up for preorder now and will be available starting October 21st, for $499.
Zuckerberg also showed off new 2nd generation Ray-Ban Meta, which record video at 3K resolution using a 12MP ultrawide camera. They've got twice the battery life of the first-gen versions – the company says up to 8 hours on a charge, with a charging case that extends that by 48 hours. He also showcased new features such as Conversation Focus, which he said can amplify the voice of someone you’re talking with – in a busy restaurant, for example. The feature doesn’t work automatically; you have to pause your conversation and ask Meta AI to activate Conversation Focus. (Nothing awkward about that!)
He also talked about Live AI, which he said wearers can use for about an hour as its own conversation partner. In a demonstration, someone asked Meta AI to help him make a “Korean-inspired steak sauce,” then as it started telling him what to do, he interrupted it to ask what he should do first. The demo fell apart here, with Meta AI telling him he’d already combined some ingredients, and what to do next. (Zuckerberg and the demonstrator blamed the issue on bad Wi-Fi.) The 2nd-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses start at $379 and are available now.

In retro news, I'm using a rolling Katamari that accidentally scooped up a campfire to light 16 candles on a cake for Katamari Forever, the PS3's wonderfully weird puzzler. At the time it felt like proof that video games didn't always need grit and guns to hook you in. Sometimes all you need is a booger sticky sphere and a bloody awesome soundtrack.
I remember firing this up and thinking it was basically a "best of" mixtape for the series, with old levels remixed, new cel-shaded flair, and the King of All Cosmos still being his gloriously unhinged self. The joy was still in the nonsense. One minute you're hoovering up erasers and pigeons, the next you're big enough to snatch skyscrapers. Timelessly entertaining stuff.

The Tomtoc Slim is one of the best compact Nintendo Switch 2 cases you can get and it's on sale today. Amazon is offering the Tomtoc Slim in Black for just $29.59 after a 20% off instant discount. Several other colors are also on sale, including the rarely discounted dazzling color fade models like Matcha Green, Ocean Blue, Iris Purple, and Cherry Blossom. This is a much better deal than the official Nintendo Switch 2 case which currently sells for $39.99.
Tomtoc has a history of making great cases for mobile electronics, including most current gaming handhelds like the original Switch and Switch Lite, Steam Deck, and Asus ROG Ally. Its signature trademark is the raised indent patterning for each handheld's unique analog joystick and button layout. This is mostly an aesthetic touch, but it helps set Tomtoc cases apart from the boring monochrome design you'll see for nearly every other case out there including the official case.
Material-wise, the Tomtoc is a hardshell case with a felt inner lining. It has an interior flap that can fit up to 12 game cards, a buckle strap, and durable YKK zipper that's smoother and easier to use than the Genki Sleeper case. Since this is a slim case designed for as minimal of a footprint as possible, there's no room to fit a charger.
If you're looking for something roomier, Tomtoc also has a sling-style case that's specifically made for portable gaming handhelds including the Switch 2. The padded compartment is shaped like a "W" to make room for a wide range of handhelds that have dual analog joysticks. It's not specifically designed for the Switch 2, so don't expect a molded fit, but there's plenty of room here to fit extra controllers, a charger or power bank, and more.

ABC has suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! following comments its titular host made during his Monday night monologue about the death of conservative activist and podcaster Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week in Utah during a public debate appearance.
The network has pre-empted Kimmel’s show “indefinitely” after Nexstar, which owns 28 ABC affiliate stations across the United States, “said it will pre-empt the series for the immediate future,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
THR adds that there were rumblings that other TV groups were taking issue with Kimmel’s comments and that ABC feared “an affiliate revolt.”
In his monologue during Monday's episode, Kimmel said: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, issued the following statement Wednesday to announce the company’s decision to pre-empt Jimmy Kimmel Live!:
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located. …
Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”
Kimmel’s comments also sparked the ire of Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr, a Trump Administration appointee who suggested on a podcast that the broadcast licenses of ABC and its affiliates could potentially be revoked over the matter.
THR points out that Nexstar’s move to pre-empt Kimmel’s show “comes as the broadcast station is seeking FCC approval for its $6.2 billion mega deal to acquire TEGNA.”
The Kimmel show’s suspension comes on the heels of Comedy Central pulling a planned repeat of a recent South Park episode that parodied Charlie Kirk but that aired before his murder.

Les premiers tests de la MSI B850 MPOWER révèlent une approche rafraîchissante dans un marché obsédé par la surenchère technique. Vendue 1599 yuans en Chine (environ 185€), cette carte micro-ATX bouscule les codes d’un segment dominé par des modèles à 500-700€.
MSI dévoile la B850 MPOWER, officiellement nommée B850MPOWER par le constructeur, une carte mère compacte sur socket AM5 qui fait son retour sous la bannière dédiée à l’overclocking.
La B850 MPOWER arrive dans un segment occupé par des modèles prestigieux comme la ROG X870E APEX d’ASUS, la X870 Tachyon de Gigabyte ou encore la X870E OCF d’ASRock. Ces cartes se distinguent par des étages d’alimentation massifs, dépassant parfois les vingt phases de 110 A, mais elles s’affichent aussi à des prix trois à quatre fois plus élevés que celui annoncé par MSI.
La stratégie est différente : plutôt que de surdimensionner le VRM pour l’overclocking extrême, MSI mise sur l’optimisation de la mémoire, là où AMD offre le plus de marge aujourd’hui. Une approche qui révèle une compréhension fine des réalités techniques actuelles.

Le socket AM5 se prête encore mal à l’overclocking manuel des processeurs à température ambiante. Le Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) reste la méthode la plus fiable et la plus efficace pour tirer parti d’un Ryzen 9000.
Les tests effectués par EXPreview le confirment : +9,7% en PBO automatique, +10,8% en manuel optimisé, mais les gains restent modestes comparés aux possibilités mémoire.
C’est pourquoi la B850 MPOWER se concentre sur un design mémoire à deux DIMM, pensé pour repousser la DDR5 à des fréquences de 8400 MT/s et plus. Le repositionnement du socket CPU vers le haut pour aligner parfaitement les traces mémoire n’est pas cosmétique : il traduit une volonté d’optimiser là où les gains sont réels.
Avec 12+2+1 phases et des MOSFETs de 60 A, la B850MPOWER encaisse sans broncher les 239 W d’un Ryzen 9 9950X en PBO. Les tests de stress montrent une température VRM plafonnant à 65,7°C, preuve que le refroidissement est maîtrisé et que multiplier les phases n’est pas une fin en soi.
Le double connecteur EPS 8 broches assure une alimentation stable même en pleine charge, tandis que la présence d’un générateur d’horloge dédié ouvre des possibilités de réglages fins pour les overclockeurs exigeants.
Sur la mémoire, les résultats parlent d’eux-mêmes : DDR5-6000 à 58,9ns de latence avec les bons réglages, DDR5-6400 stable, et un support annoncé jusqu’à 8400 MT/s sur Ryzen 9000.
L’initiative Alliance MPOWER D5 illustre cette approche pragmatique. En s’associant à 12 fabricants de mémoire, MSI garantit des profils optimisés spécifiquement pour sa carte. Résultat : des kits DDR5-6000 qui débloquent automatiquement des timings CL26 au lieu de CL28, sans bidouillage.
Cette démarche contraste avec la course aux records des cartes haut de gamme, souvent inutilisables pour le commun des overclockeurs. Ici, MSI vise l’efficacité accessible plutôt que l’exploit médiatique.
Après des mois de rumeurs et quelques clichés publiés par des overclockeurs bien connus comme Seby, la MSI B850MPOWER se dévoile enfin à l’occasion du Computex 2025. Avec son format micro-ATX, son BIOS jaune emblématique et surtout son design à deux emplacements mémoire pensé pour repousser les limites de la DDR5, elle marque le retour d’une série culte de MSI.
À 185€, la B850 MPOWER ne joue pas dans la même cour que les APEX ou Tachyon, et c’est tout l’intérêt. Elle propose une carte mère qui n’essaie pas de rivaliser sur le terrain de la démesure, mais qui se concentre sur ce qui compte vraiment : un overclocking mémoire performant, une alimentation fiable et un tarif accessible.
Face aux Core Ultra 200S qui peinent à convaincre en gaming, AMD consolide sa position sur AM5. MSI l’a bien compris : inutile de proposer du 30 phases à 800€ quand 12 phases suffisent et que la vraie valeur ajoutée se situe ailleurs.
La B850MPOWER pourrait bien redéfinir les attentes sur ce segment. Reste à espérer une disponibilité européenne rapide pour confirmer cette intuition.

However, if you prefer a gamepad-style controller over the Joy-Con for the Switch 2, then there isn't any other controller you can order that will match the Pro controller's ergonomics and functionality.
