Xcode 26 beta includes new ‘Apple Vision Pro 4K’ simulator

Apple held its WWDC25 keynote yesterday, where it announced a new suite of software updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS – all under the new version numbering umbrella of ’26’. A new suite of OS releases comes with a new version of Xcode, which also falls under the new 26 naming umbrella.

In the first beta of Xcode 26, the developer tool used to build apps for these new operating systems, Apple now includes a new ‘Vision Pro 4K’ simulator.

Threads is getting native DMs as Meta reverses course

It took long enough, but Meta has finally admitted what Threads users have been saying from day one: the platform needs its own direct messaging system. Not something tied to Instagram, not a redirect, just DMs, right where the conversations are happening.

And now, that’s exactly what they’re finally getting.

iPadOS 26 just made the entry level iPad the best value in the lineup, here’s why [Video]

The best part of Apple’s keynote yesterday, for me, was the introduction of iPadOS 26. Apple finally opened up the floodgates and gave iPad users everything they wanted. We have an actual multitasking window manager, new menu toolbars, better background tasks, and a revamped files app. All this has transformed how people will view iPads moving forward. But the fantastic thing is that this is not just reserved for the $1300+ iPad Pro; this now works on the $299 entry-level iPad. Apple just made the entry-level iPad the best value in computers. Let me explain.

iOS 26 beta reveals there’s another Apple app that will work via satellite

Apple’s Emergency SOS via Satellite service has been slowly expanding from a major emergency role – essentially letting you call in an air ambulance when injured in a remote location – to a broader way of remaining in touch when outside mobile data coverage.

A new satellite-based service spotted in the iOS 26 developer beta will be useful in both extreme situations and more everyday scenarios in areas with poor mobile coverage …

iOS 26 tells you how long it will take for your iPhone battery to finish charging

iPhone battery settings get a nice update in iOS 26, including a new intelligent battery saver mode called Adaptive Power. The iPhone will also now track extra battery stats, like your average power consumption throughout the day.

But perhaps the most notable enhancement is that the iPhone can now tell you exactly how long it will take for your battery to charge. Right at the top of your lock screen, when plugged in to power, your phone will now show the estimated time to charge until it hits 80%.

Here’s a closer look at the Liquid Glass design in iOS 26 on the iPhone

Apple said yesterday that iOS 26 was its biggest update to the look and feel of the iPhone since iOS 7, with the same visual design language used across all the company’s devices.

It’s certainly a pretty dramatic change, depending on how far you want to take the look. For example, in addition to the ‘tint’ options we got in iOS 18, there’s a new ‘Clear’ option to make all our app icons monochrome glass – which you can see above …

MagSafe Monday: UGREEN’s 145W Power Bank is a MagSafe beast that charges everything

Over the years, I’ve tested my fair share of portable battery packs and desk docks. Most of them fall into two categories: slim and convenient or bulky and powerful. The manages to be both. It’s MagSafe compatible, supports Qi2, and has enough power to top off a MacBook Pro in less than an hour. If you’re looking for one device that can charge your whole Apple setup at once, this might be the one. I use it daily.
