We will pay for Apple Intelligence, even if the survey saying so is junk

I’m often skeptical about survey results. There are small-scale ones, where the claimed trends are actually within the margin of error for the sample size, and even in larger ones there’s still ample scope for the results to be way less meaningful than they might seem.

I have to say that Morgan Stanley’s survey on consumer attitudes to Apple Intelligence triggered my doubtometer, as the rosy picture it paints doesn’t seem a very good match for the current state of play …

Apple fined 500 million euros by EU under the Digital Markets Act, forced to make changes to App Store policies

Apple has today received a 500 million euro fine (about $570 million) from the EU commission under the Digital Markets Act. The commission said the fine relates to Apple’s App Store anti-steering policies. It is being forced to make changes, or else face further fines.

The DMA requires that app developers should be able to inform customers of alternative purchasing options outside of the App Store, and direct customers to those alternative payment options, free of charge. Apple’s rules currently do not allow for this …

Netflix reveals how it recreated an Apple Store from scratch for new ‘iHostage’ thriller

In February 2022, a hostage situation unfolded at an Apple Store location in Amsterdam when a gunman demanded a $227 million ransom in cryptocurrency. The hostage and other Apple Store visitors escaped the situation safely, while the gunman died from injuries sustained when he was hit by a police vehicle.

Netflix subsequently announced its plans to create a thriller based on the situation, called iHostage, which debuted this week.

As part of the production of iHostage, Netflix recreated the Amsterdam Apple Store from scratch – and has shared a behind-the-scenes video of what that process entailed.

If Apple’s going to make a barely blue product, it should be an Apple Watch

I know, I’m writing about the Apple Watch and a subtle shade of blue while illustrating the piece with a dumb watch with very unsubtle blue face, but bear with me here.

A report yesterday suggested that the iPhone 17 Pro is going to be available in the Sky Blue, the name Apple gave to the subtle blue tint of one of the M4 MacBook Air options …

1Password’s next chapter is all about securing everything legacy tools miss

1Password is an app I’ve been using since 2008, but it’s not longer just an app. It is building a platform for how work actually happens today. That includes personal devices, AI agents, and apps that never went through the IT team. With new updates to its Extended Access Management platform and a partnership with Drata, 1Password is moving beyond vaults to help companies stay secure without slowing anyone down.

Beyond Cupertino: Uber’s 32-step cancellation process, Bluesky blue checks, and more

Tech companies have often been accused of making it hard to cancel subscriptions, but Uber appears to have taken things to a whole new level! It’s being sued by the FTC for forcing Uber One subscribers to take as many as 32 separate actions when they want to cancel.

The Federal Trade Commission also says that Uber illegally started charging subscribers before the end of their free trial period, and lied about the cost savings …

iPhone 17e already well advanced, says leaker with the right credentials

Apple’s replacement of the iPhone SE with the iPhone 16e raised an obvious question: Would the ad-hoc update schedule for the SE series also be replaced with an annual refresh, kicking off with an iPhone 17e?

A leaker with the right credentials to answer this question said back in February they believed the answer to be yes, and the same source says there is now solid evidence for this …

iPhone 17 Air will compromise in a few areas, but this key feature won’t be one of them

Later this year, Apple is going to debut its thinnest iPhone to date. At just 5.5mm thin, iPhone 17 Air will be record-setting.

You might anticipate that an ultra-thin phone comes with awful battery life. After all, iPhone battery life improved drastically over the past few years, as Apple has made increasingly thicker iPhones. However, at least according to current rumors, iPhone 17 Air won’t compromise on battery life. Here’s why.

MagSafe Monday: Lamicall’s 3-in-1 charger is built for travel and priced right

I’ve spent more nights in a hotel in 2025 than I care to mention. I recently went on a trip and was completely spaced on bringing a USB-C cable. After a run to the Apple Store, I had one, but it was still super frustrating. I need to build a permanent travel kit for cables. Between cables, chargers, and adapters, things get messy fast. A 3-in-1 charger helps cut down on clutter, but most of them are bulky. Some look great beside your bed but are a hassle to travel with. is different. It folds down small. It travels well, and it does the job.
