These Are the 10 Best Books to Look Out for in September 2025

I’m back with my monthly roundup of the best new books to keep an eye out for, and quite a few of our most anticipated reads of 2025 are dropping this month. From fantasy and romance to cosy crime, a Greek mythology retelling, and an age gap romance, there’s something for every reader.

So, here are the books that you won’t want to miss this September. Missed August’s roundup? You can find it right here.

The Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown

  • Release date: September 9

Can you believe that it’s been over 20 years since Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code was first released? Well, Robert Langdon (played by Tom Hanks in the movie adaptation) is back in The Secret of Secrets.

In it, we travel to Prague as Robert accompanies the celebrated academic, Katherine Solomon (who fans of the series might remember from the third book), to a lecture she’s been invited to give. Things soon take a sinister turn when she disappears without a trace.

In a city known for its dark past, he must call upon all of his arcane abilities and knowledge to get answers and save the woman that he loves.

Alchemised by SenLinYu

  • Release date: September 23

It’s not the first time that we’ve seen fan fiction make its way onto bookstore shelves. Still, with the original iteration of SenLinYu’s story garnering over 20 million individual downloads, it’s no surprise that the new and reworked take on it has become one of the most pre-ordered and talked about books this year.

A reimagining of Manacled, the ‘Dramione’ (Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger romance) fan fiction that captured the attention of the masses, Alchemised explores many of the same themes.

It follows Helena, a once-promising alchemist who is being held prisoner. However, she can’t remember the months leading up to her capture, making her enemies wonder exactly what she’s hiding. In a bid to recover her lost memories, she’s sent to live with one of the most powerful and ruthless necromancers, though he seems to be keeping just as many secrets. Let’s just say, we can’t wait to give this a read.

Uncharmed by Lucy Jane Wood

  • Release date: September 16 (US)/September 18 (UK)

With spooky season fast approaching, Uncharmed by author and YouTuber Lucy Jane Wood is giving us witchy vibes in the very best way. Brimming full of magic, found family, and slow-burn romance, it’s perfect for the fast-approaching spooky season, or any time you want a little enchantment.

When Annie is tasked with mentoring a troubled teenage witch with extraordinary powers, it throws her seemingly perfect life into disarray. A tale of found family, there’s also a lovely slow burn romance at its core between Annie and Hal, the gruff warlock and owner of their temporary lodgings.

Even though it’s set in the same world as Lucy’s debut book, Rewitched, it’s not a sequel. So, there’s nothing to stop you from starting with Annie’s story first. Just don’t be surprised if you end up going back to read her first book next.

The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman

  • Release date: September 25 (UK)/September 30 (US)

With The Thursday Murder Club movie hitting our screens at the end of last month, fans of the cosy crime series will be thrilled to know that the gang is taking on a new case, and it kicks off with a wedding.

Yes, there might not have been as many cases for them to work on – with Elizabeth grieving, Ron dealing with family issues, Ibrahim providing therapy to a certain criminal, and Joyce being kept busy with all the wedding planning.

However, when Elizabeth meets a wedding guest who is in fear for his life, the gang is plunged back into things. With a villain who will stop at nothing to get access to an uncrackable code, can they solve the puzzle—and another murder—in time? I can’t wait to spend a weekend reading this.

Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross

  • Release date: September 2 (US)/September 11 (UK)

If you’re already familiar with Rebecca Ross’ Divine Rivals and the follow-up Ruthless Vows, you should recognise some familiar characters from the same world in her latest release, Wild Reverence. Yet, this is a standalone story.

Leaning into the ‘goddess x mortal’ trope, it follows Matilda, who has been blessed with messenger magic, and Vincent, who dreams of her despite them never having met.

Ten years ago, he wrote to the goddess for help, but his plea went unanswered until now - when she comes bearing a letter that could change both their destinies and tie them together far beyond his dreams.

Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver

  • Release date: September 23

The beginning of a new trilogy for Butcher & Blackbird’s Brynne Weaver, Tourist Season seamlessly blends romance and murder in a way that only she can manage.

Harper is keen to protect the seaside town of Cape Carnage from troublesome tourists, and she’ll quite literally kill to do so. Nolan, on the other hand, isn’t your average tourist; he’s out for revenge.

On the anniversary of the hit-and-run accident that upended his life, he slays one target, and this year he’s got his sights set on Harper. Yet, when an amateur true crime investigator arrives looking for answers in the small town, the two agree to a truce. But could the two of them getting closer lead to something altogether more unexpected?

Thief of Night by Holly Black

  • Release date: September 23

The highly anticipated sequel to Holly Black’s Book of Night, which just so happens to be the conclusion to the duology, Thief of Night should be at the top of your TBR (to be read) list this September.

The story picks up after Charlie ultimately bartered with the Cabal for her boyfriend Vince’s freedom. But in doing so, she’s ended up having to hunt rogue shadows on their behalf. It also doesn’t help that the tether that binds Charlie and Vince has erased all the memories he had of her and summoned Red, a dangerous Blight with Vince’s face.

With this entity no longer trusting or even liking her, it makes for a lonely and vulnerable existence as she battles to save herself, and at what cost? You’ll need to pick up a copy to find out.

Hekate by Nikita Gill

  • Release date: September 16

Fans of Greek mythology retellings are in for a treat this September thanks to Hekate by Nikita Gill.

A child of war, Hekate becomes the all-powerful goddess of witchcraft and necromancy, raised by Styx and Hades in the Underworld after being separated from her parents. And in this coming-of-age story, she must step into her true powers when war breaks out once again, before everything from Mount Olympus to the Underworld is destroyed.

And what she soon realises is that even the most powerful Olympians are terrified of her. Let’s just say, it will no doubt have you itching to delve deeper into the lore and explore more of the backstory to some of the other characters, that’s for sure.

The Killer Question by Janice Hallett

  • Release date: September 4 (UK)/September 23 (US)

We’ve previously enjoyed Janice Hallett’s intriguing mysteries The Appeal and The Examiner, and her latest—The Killer Question—will keep you guessing until the very end. It also features the mixed media format that she’s known for.

In this story, the landlords of a quiet country pub have gone missing, the windows long since boarded up. What happened to Mal and Sue? Did it have anything to do with the body found in the nearby river days before? Or maybe it had something to do with the usually quiet weekly quiz, after a mysterious new team of outsiders arrived and started winning every round.

By sifting through WhatsApp chats and quiz sheets, the couple’s hidden past is slowly revealed. Will you be able to work out who is responsible from the clues provided?

Wild Card by Elsie Silver

  • Release date: September 9

There are some great romance books to look forward to this September. From Tessa Bailey’s sports romance Pitcher Perfect, to the cosy If It Makes You Happy by Julie Olivia. But, I personally cannot wait to return to the fictional town of Rose Hill with Elsie Silver’s latest release, Wild Card.

The fourth book in the series, although it can be read as a standalone, follows Gwen and Bash, and grumpy pilot Bash just so happens to be Gwen’s ex-boyfriend’s dad.

Cue some of our favourite romance tropes, such as forced proximity – with them both living under the same roof – and some serious mutual pining.

Given that Bash is trying to mend the rather fragile relationship that he has with his son, they both know that acting on their growing feelings would not only break the rules but also potentially betray the one person who connects them. Basically, if you love a good age gap romance, look no further.

Ellis is a freelance journalist, based in the UK, with a love of all things books. She also routinely chairs bookish events up and down the country, getting the scoop from some of the biggest and bestselling authors to keep you in the know.

Every PS5 DualSense Controller Color You Can Buy Right Now

PlayStation is no stranger to releasing unique colors for its accessories throughout its 30-year history. Since the PS5 launched in November 2020, PlayStation has expanded the DualSense controller line to include 12 additional standard colors, along with a swath of limited edition controllers featuring popular PlayStation characters and vibrant patterns. Whether you're looking to replace an existing controller, add to your collection, or just want to take a trip down memory lane, we've rounded up every PlayStation 5 DualSense controller color in order of release date.

If you're in the market for a DualSense alternative, our guide to the best PS5 controllers features a variety of different options we've reviewed.

All Dualsense Controller Colors by Release Date

White DualSense Controller

Release Date: November 12, 2020

Released alongside the PlayStation 5 in 2020, the white DualSense controller perfectly matches the PS5 console. You can check out our review of this controller when it was first released. Since that time, many of the PS5 exclusives have come to PC, making this a great mouse and keyboard alternative for PC gamers as well.

Midnight Black DualSense Controller

Release Date: June 11, 2021

For fans looking for that classic DualShock look, the Midnight Black DualSense is a great choice. It wasn't released for the console until a full seven months after the console, making it the first new color you could grab (alongside Cosmic Red).

Cosmic Red DualSense Controller

Release Date: June 11, 2021

Is it red? Or more berry-colored? It's neither! Cosmic Red is the first "unique" color released for the DualSense and for the PS5, and it would establish the space-themed naming convention for the controllers to come.

Starlight Blue DualSense Controller

Release Date: January 14, 2022

The Starlight Blue controller kicked off 2022 as part of a new space-themed trio of DualSense controller colors, offering some striking new colors not seen in the PlayStation lineup before.

Galactic Purple DualSense Controller

Release Date: January 14, 2022

Galactic Purple is the second controller included in the "Galaxy Collection" and features a deep purple hue with color-matched buttons.

Nova Pink DualSense Controller

Release Date: January 14, 2022

Nova Pink is a striking color that lets you live out your neon-fueled dreams while you game.

Grey Camouflage DualSense Controller

Release Date: October 14, 2022

PlayStation loves its camo-themed controllers, and the DualSense finally received its first (and only) patterned controller option in 2022.

Cobalt Blue DualSense Controller

Release Date: November 3, 2023

Deviating from the matte-finish options that preceded it, the Cobalt Blue DualSense is the first of three controllers featured in the "Deep Earth Collection."

Volcanic Red DualSense Controller

Release Date: November 3, 2023

Inspired by the rich metals of the earth, the Volcanic Red DualSense features a deep, red hue and metallic finish.

Sterling Silver DualSense Controller

Release Date: January 26, 2024

The final controller in the Deep Earth Collection released in early 2024 and added a metallic silver option to round out the lineup.

Chroma Pearl DualSense Controller

Release Date: November 7, 2024

The Chroma Pearl DualSense is part of the Chroma Collection, the latest trio of controllers to release featuring iridescent colors that shine at every angle.

Chroma Indigo DualSense Controller

Release Date: November 7, 2024

The Chroma Indigo DualSense beautifully shifts between rich blues and deep purples.

Chroma Teal DualSense Controller

Release Date: January 23, 2025

Featuring vibrant shifting shades of green, the Chroma Teal DualSense is a unique controller that will certainly shine in your collection.

Every Dualsense Edge Color

White DualSense Edge

Release Date: January 26, 2023

At first glance, the DualSense Edge may look similar to the standard DualSense, but aside from some glossy highlights and black face buttons, it added a slew of customizable options to take your game to the next level.

Midnight Black DualSense Edge

Release Date: February 20, 2025

Released as part of the Midnight Black Collection, this all-black DualSense Edge is the only other color option available for this pro-style controller.

Special Edition DualSense Controllers

In addition to the standard DualSense controller colors, Sony has also released several limited edition controllers over the past few years. Arguably the most popular limited-time offering was to celebrate PlayStation's milestone anniversary in November 2024, when Sony launched an entire PlayStation 30th Anniversary collection that included a standard DualSense controller, PS5 Slim, PS5 Pro, PlayStation Portal, and DualSense Edge controller, each sporting the iconic grey color of the original PlayStation console.

While you may still be able to get your hands on some special edition controllers, they are often well above retail price as Sony only manufactures a limited amount. In addition to the 30th Anniversary collection, Sony has also released limited edition DualSense controllers celebrating the release of God of War: Ragnarok, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the ill-fated Concord, Astro Bot, The Last of Us, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and most recently, Ghost of Yotei.

When Do PS5 Controllers Go on Sale?

There are quite a few times throughout the year when you can find discounts on PS5 controllers. The most recent discounts we saw were during the PlayStation Days of Play sale back in June. The standard Dualsense controllers were $20 and Dualsense Edge got its biggest discount since it was first released. The next time you can probably expect prices to drop is during Black Friday. While it's certainly possible that tariffs on gaming accessories could raise prices before then, there are still likely to be price cuts starting in November.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Is Out Now — but It's So Popular It's Crashing Storefronts Including Steam

Hollow Knight: Silksong is out now, but the huge rush to buy and download the game has caused some storefronts to crash.

Steam, for example, is struggling to cope with the influx of customers, with Silksong’s store page currently resulting in an error page. All this, remember, for a $20 indie game.

IGN staff report trouble trying to buy Silksong from the Nintendo eShop, the PlayStation Store, and Xbox. Silksong is a day-one Game Pass title, but subscribers are reporting trouble downloading it from the Xbox App and on Xbox consoles.

Silksong is one of the most anticipated games of 2025. Over six years after its initial announcement and as the most wishlisted game on Steam, Silksong finally launched today, September 4, across PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S priced $19.99 and weighing in at 7.62GB.

Despite the launch struggles, at the time of this article's publication Silksong already had over 100,000 concurrent players on Valve's platform, so clearly some fans were able to get into the game. To put that number into perspective, Hollow Knight's peak concurrent player count is 72,916, so the sequel has already smashed through one milestone despite Steam's issues.

Little was known about Silksong ahead of launch, so players are only now discovering what it has in store. One of the first revelations is the achievements list (Hollow Knight Silksong has 52 Achievements and 53 Trophies to unlock and discover).

While you wait for storefronts to recover, be sure to check out IGN's Silksong coverage, which includes the story of the superfan behind the YouTube Channel Daily Silksong News, who can finally rest after an incredible 1,693 days of videos.

And if you're playing (or replaying) Hollow Knight before Silksong, take a look at IGN's newly refreshed Hollow Knight walkthrough and detailed Hollow Knight interactive map to make sure you don't miss any collectible locations.

The Best Deals Today: 007 First Light Preorders, LEGO WALL-E & EVE, and More

If you’ve been waiting for your next James Bond adventure, 007 First Light is officially up for preorder ahead of its March 27, 2026 release on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Alongside the standard edition, there’s also a Legacy Edition that comes with a collectible Golden Gun replica and other extras for longtime fans. Just after the base game or fancy the full collector’s package? It’s worth locking in your copy early.

TL;DR: Todays Best Deals

Today’s other deals span across home, tech, and nerdy building goodness. You can grab the LEGO Disney & Pixar WALL-E & EVE set for under $70, a great display piece for Pixar fans; the EUKI Compressed Air Duster at $39.99, a rechargeable alternative to canned air that’s handy for cleaning keyboards, PCs, and more; and the RUNBOX Slim Card Holder Wallet, now just $8.98 (70% off), offering RFID protection and a sleek, minimalist design. Don't forget about keeping an eye on Pokémon TCG preorders and deals below too, finding stock for a good price is harder than ever in 2025. Let's get into it:

007 First Light: Legacy And Standard Edition Preorders

The standard edition of 007 First Light includes the base game for $69.99 and is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (via Steam or Epic). Physical copies are offered for all consoles, though Switch 2 uses a game-key card rather than a full cartridge, meaning you’ll still need the card inserted to play but can lend or resell it like a typical game card. Preorders also come with the deluxe edition upgrade at no extra cost, adding early access for digital buyers plus exclusive DLC skins and outfits.
For fans who want something more collectible, the Legacy Edition ($299.99) comes packed with extras. Alongside the full game in a steelbook case, it includes a Golden Gun figurine with a stand and hidden compartment, a certificate of authenticity, and a bundle of deluxe DLC skins and outfits. Between the display-worthy replica and the bonus in-game content, this edition is tailored for Bond enthusiasts who want both a showpiece for their shelf and extra flair in-game.

LEGO Disney & Pixar Wall-E & EVE

The LEGO Disney & Pixar WALL-E & EVE Building Set (43279) is one of the new LEGO sets for September. It comes with 811 pieces and builds four characters from the movie: WALL-E, EVE, M-O, and Hal. Each has movable parts, like WALL-E’s rolling tracks and EVE’s poseable arms, plus small accessories like the plant in a boot. Once built, the figures stand about 5 inches tall and work well as shelf or desk décor.

EUKI Compressed Air Duster

The EUKI Compressed Air Duster ($39.99) is a rechargeable alternative to disposable air cans, built with a 150,000 RPM motor and three speed settings for different cleaning tasks. It weighs just 315 grams and can handle everything from clearing dust out of keyboards and PCs to inflating air beds or drying surfaces. A full charge takes about 2.5 hours and provides up to 100 minutes of use, with built-in protections for safe performance. The kit comes with a USB-C cable, storage bag, brushes, and a non-slip handle.

Runbox Slim Card Holder

RUNBOX Slim Card Holder Wallet is a minimalist aluminum case designed to hold 6–12 cards securely, with a quick-access pop-up button for easy retrieval. At just 0.5 inches thick and 2.6 ounces, it fits comfortably in any pocket while still offering expandable storage thanks to its metal backplate. Built-in RFID blocking helps protect against digital theft, and silicone clips inside keep cards firmly in place.

Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution - Phantasmal Flames Preorders

With the Pokémon Center listings going live for preorder at any moment, it's only a matter of time until the first expansion for the new era of Pokémon TCG, Mega Evolution: Phantasmal Flames, comes pouring down to other retailers. First up will be Best Buy, normally around 24 hours after the Pokémon Center launch, followed by Target then secondary market and small seller allocations being available on TCGPlayer. Amazon and Walmart have been known to stock Pokémon TCG preorders in the past, but it's not always a guarantee.
Phantasmal Flames drops on November 14, with prerelease events running the week before, and the big headline is Mega Charizard X ex returning in full force. What makes this set even more exciting is its size , about 90 cards before secret rares, which makes it the smallest English set in nearly a decade. For collectors like me, that usually means a much more manageable chase, while still packing in plenty of heavy hitters for players.

The product lineup looks pretty stacked too. We’ll be getting the usual booster packs and booster box (36 packs), a 9-pack Elite Trainer Box featuring a shiny new Charcadet promo, and an Ultra-Premium Collection built around Mega Charizard X ex. On top of that, two theme decks for Mega Gengar ex and Mega Diancie ex are arriving a few weeks early on October 24, which is a fun way to get a taste of the set before launch. If you’re like me and love cracking packs, the booster box is the way to go, but the UPC is already looking like the big collector piece this time around.

What ties it all together is the Japanese set Inferno X, which hit shelves there in late September. That set had only 80 cards, and once you add in the Mega Gengar and Mega Diancie decks, you basically get the full Phantasmal Flames lineup. We’ve already seen some killer reveals, including the Mega Charizard X ex secret rare previewed at Worlds, so I’m fully expecting that to be the chase card when this launches. Between the smaller set size, Charizard hype, and some solid gameplay cards, I think this one’s going to fly off shelves and I’m definitely locking in my preorder.

Back To The Future Steelbook Preorders Are Live

The 40th anniversary Back to the Future steelbooks are a collector’s dream. Each movie in the trilogy is getting its own limited-edition release on October 14, with sleek new steelbook packaging featuring inside-and-out film artwork. Priced between $29.99 and $34.99, each edition includes the movie on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital, along with a treasure trove of bonus features, from archival documentaries and outtakes to new retrospectives with co-writer Bob Gale and cast/crew members.

Pokémon TCG: Holiday Calendar (2025) Cheaper At TCGPlayer

The 2025 Pokémon TCG Holiday Calendar is shaping up to be a holiday highlight for fans without breaking the bank. While Amazon has it listed for $67.94, with the lowest price right now is actually at TCGplayer, where you can snag it for just $61.97. Inside, you’ll get a festive advent-style box with 25 surprises: eight foil promo cards with a snowflake Poké Ball stamp, six booster packs, seven fun packs, two coins, sticker sheets, and a bonus code card for Pokémon TCG Live. With boosters pulled from recent Scarlet & Violet expansions like Destined Rivals and Journey Together, this calendar offers both collectible promos and real gameplay value at the best price you’ll find online today.

Marvel Legends Series Wolverine Premium Roleplay Mask

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Series Wolverine Premium Roleplay Mask is a must-have for fans of the clawed mutant, whether you’re into cosplay or just want a striking display piece. Priced at $99.99 and set to release on October 1 (with preorders live now at Amazon), this full-scale 1:1 mask recreates Wolverine’s look from Deadpool & Wolverine. It sports the classic yellow-and-black design with realistic battle damage and white eye screens, giving it a screen-accurate edge. The mask also comes with its own display stand, so it’ll look just as good on a shelf as it does when you wear it.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 + 4 Under $35

As part of Amazon’s Labor Day sale, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 has dropped to its lowest price yet, making now the perfect time to grab it. Normally priced higher, this updated collection delivers classic arcade skateboarding with a modern polish. In our review where we scored it an 8/10, we praised the game for proving “the series’ over-the-top skateboarding formula is totally timeless,” even if some of the tweaks to THPS4 and the soundtrack choices didn’t fully land. At this price, though, you’re getting an iconic piece of gaming history for less than ever before.

Pokémon TCG ETBs and Booster Bundles

When it comes to sealed Pokémon TCG products, the real bargains today are on ETBs and booster bundles. White Flare is sitting at just $75 on TCGPlayer, which is a nice break from the usual $90+ price tags. Even the newer Destined Rivals and Black Bolt boxes are running cheaper there than anywhere else. And if you don’t want to spring for a full ETB, Prismatic Evolutions booster bundles are going for as low as $59, which feels like an easy pickup if you’re chasing singles without committing to a whole box.

Pokémon TCG Collections, Tins and Boosters

If you’re more into variety packs than full ETBs, there are some great grabs in the collections and tins today. Cynthia’s Garchomp ex Premium Collection is down to $45 on TCGPlayer, which feels like a steal compared to Amazon’s $60 tag. The Slashing Legends Tin also jumped out at me at $29.99—that’s nearly half off what Amazon is charging. Even the smaller items are worth a look: Surging Sparks sleeved boosters are going for just $7.93, which is $15.98 on Amazon currently.

Pokémon Funko Pop! Preorders

I’m also eyeing a few of the new Funko Pop! preorders that just went live. Turtwig drops at the end of September for $15.99, while Ninetales and Absol are both set for mid-December at $14.99 each. These usually disappear around launch week, so if you’re the type who likes locking in new releases before they vanish, it’s probably worth snagging them now instead of hunting later at inflated prices.

Pokémon Funko Pop! Deals

Amazon’s been quietly slashing prices on a bunch of Pokémon Funko Pops, and some of them are cheaper than a booster pack. The biggest surprise for me was Horsea at just $4.31—that’s wild considering it normally goes for $12.99. There are plenty of others worth adding to your shelf too, like Fidough for $7.99, Dratini for $11.30, and even the 10-inch Pikachu for $62, which is a solid drop from its usual $75.99. Whether you’re filling gaps in your collection or just want a budget-friendly pick-up, today’s lineup has a nice mix of starters, legendaries, and fan favorites.

Stock Up on $499 Worth of LEGO Games for $15 With Humble’s LEGO Worlds Collide Bundle

If the announcement of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight at Gamescom has you itching to jump back into some of the other LEGO games, Humble is here with a very nice surprise.

The latest Humble Bundle is a LEGO Worlds Collide Bundle, which offers 17 LEGO games for as low as $15. Considering the full collection is worth $499 in value, that's an excellent bundle to jump on while it's available.

Humble’s LEGO Worlds Collide Bundle

As is the case with many different Humble Bundles, the number of games you get depends on the price you pay. The lowest amount you can shell out is $5, which gets you four games (LEGO Batman: The Videogame, LEGO The Hobbit, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and The LEGO Movie - Videogame).

By paying $10, you'll get the previously mentioned ones, plus four more (LEGO MARVEL's Avengers DELUXE EDITION, The LEGO NINJAGO Movie Video Game, LEGO The Lord of the Rings, and LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes) for a grand total of eight.

After 1,693 Days of Videos, the Superfan Behind YouTube Channel Daily Silksong News Can Finally Rest

Hollow Knight: Silksong is out today, over six years after its initial announcement. Fans who have been waiting that entire time for the game finally have their hands on it in what is sure to mark an exciting new era for a community that’s driven itself to often-surprising lengths of hype and anticipation.

But for one fan in particular, today is not just a beginning, it’s an ending, an ending of a nearly five-year project that’s become a staple part of the Silksong community during the long wait for Team Cherry’s game. Today, September 4, 2025, marks the final video for the YouTube channel Daily Silksong News.

Daily Silksong News is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a YouTube channel run by Silksong community member Araraura, where he publishes a daily video covering what, if any, news about Hollow Knight: Silksong has surfaced on that day. But simple as the premise is, Daily Silksong News is impressive due to Araraura’s sheer dedication. Since the start of the channel, Araraura has made 1,693 videos. He tells me he hasn’t missed a single day.

Araraura doesn’t self-describe as a content creator or streamer or anything like that. He’s simply a fan. He was inspired by a channel tackling a similar Herculean task Elden Ring News, which was conducted by a fan going by Mordecai and which similarly provided daily updates on the game in question. Araraura saw this channel and wondered if there was a similar daily update for Silksong. When he saw there was not, he decided, on the spot, to make it.

But as anyone with an interest in Silksong will know, most days over the past four years, there simply has been no Silksong news. Thus, the vast majority of the videos on Daily Silksong News are less than a minute long. These simple videos consist of a basic thumbnail showing the main character, Hornet, and the text “Daily News Day 1577 [or whatever number] News?: No”. The videos themselves are mostly just Araraura narrating the following:

“Today is December 2023, 2023. This is Araraura, your host for today, bringing you your daily Silksong news. There has been no news to report for Silksong today. This has been your daily news for Silksong for today, December 23, 2023.”

As you might imagine, days with news are a bit more interesting. News days feature Araraura providing a brief explanation of what the news actually is, typically only a few minutes long, as well as a “Yes” in the thumbnail declaring that there was, in fact, news on that date. Some days are “Maybe” or “No, but…” news days, where there’s no actual news but something relevant and Silksong-adjacent happened that Araraura found worth reporting.

Those days, however, are few and far between. Mostly, it’s just Araraura reciting the same no-news script. He tells me that as time went on, he looked for ways to spice up the videos. He began inviting guests on to read the news, largely focusing on bringing in members of the Hollow Knight community, such as noted Hollow Knight lore expert Mossbag. He once did a crossover with Mordecai, where Mordecai read the Silksong news and Araraura read Elden Ring news. Araraura also sometimes has incorporated other fun and funny elements into his videos, such as short video clips, images, or gags. These additional bits have become more prevalent in the later videos, Araraura tells me, as some friends in his Discord group got more involved and helped make various projects and video elements for the channel, including a recurring puppet cutaway gag.

But mostly, for four-and-a-half years, it’s been the same update, day after day. And that’s suited Araraura just fine. The simplicity of the videos is what allowed him to keep going for so long. He tells me most of the videos take about 5-10 minutes to make. “Obviously, some of them take a very long time and a lot of effort from myself and from multiple other people who work on the videos, but the regular ones are just, record for 20 seconds, put it on Premier, and just change the numbers. That's how it works for the most part.”

What’s most impressive about Araraura’s effort, though, is his dedication. Easy as he makes it sound, Araraura says he’s never missed a daily update. He says when he wasn’t available on a given day, he’d record a “no news” video in advance, and “just hoped that there wouldn’t be Silksong news when I did.”

“Usually, when we get Silksong news after a massive drought, the first thing I do is I just quickly try to record and edit video, and just upload as fast as I can, because it feels like it's my job, and it's something really important that I need to get done,” he tells me, remembering one particularly memorable news day. “The most viewed video on my channel is when we got the release year back in April, and that was right when I was in the middle of work. And when I saw this, I had to try to get back home as fast as I could to record. And by the time I got there, I was already kind of in a frenzy, and you can even just hear it in the video. I was just screaming.”

That video in question has 1.5 million views and is, in fact, entertainingly frantic. But most of the videos on Araraura’s channel aren’t quite that big. Most of the “no news” videos have a few thousand views, unless there’s a particularly popular guest, which might bring them up into the tens of thousands. News days, of course, are far more popular, reaching into the hundreds of thousands of views. It’s not enough to make Araraura some kind of star YouTuber or anything, but he was able to make some money off the channel eventually.

“At the start it took me half a year to get a channel monetized, because YouTube's requirement is to have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in your videos, and it's really hard when your videos are like 20 seconds,” he says. “But yeah, eventually I made it, and it helped me build a nice side income. Not like something to live off of, but it was really nice financial support.”

Through it all, Araraura says he never even considered quitting, and was even prepared to keep on going even if Silksong didn’t release in 2025. Sure, he didn’t realize when he started that he was signing up for four-and-a-half years of this video series. He thought it would be a year or two, max. But it was so easy to keep going once he started, he just charged onward. “It didn't feel like daunting or exhausting, or anything like that. It was just five minutes. It's like brushing your teeth. You don't even really think about it.”

But today, that’s coming to an end. Araraura has published his final Silksong update to Daily Silksong News. In it, he does a face reveal, and shares some of his feelings about the channel and his work on it over the last few years. Turns out, as simple and goofy as his channel’s premise might be, it’s meant something to people.

“Lately I've had a lot of people come up to me and tell me, ‘Thank you for going with the channel for this long and for giving us the news,’ all this stuff,” he says. “And it felt really surreal to see all of this. I knew I had a following and the people knew about my channel, but I don't know, seeing people being so, so grateful, it really hit in a different way.”

But even so, Araraura doesn’t plan to continue the updates, even if Silksong gets DLC, though he points out that one of the mods from his Discord server has just made a new channel specifically for that. Instead, Araraura is going to hand out some giveaway keys for Silksong as he promised his following, and then he’s going to log off. No streaming, no videos, “full blackout mode, no internet, all Silksong,” he says. “I just want to fully be immersed in Silksong and just enjoy it in peace.”

Still, Araraura says there might be one thing that could get him to publish one last Daily Silksong Update. “Team Cherry, if you're reading this, hit me up on Discord. We will try to make an extra day for you on the channel or something.”

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Patch 10 Goes Live — and This Is the Big One, With Playable Helbrute, Power Axe Weapon, Chaos Spawn Enemy, and a Lot More

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has its long-awaited Patch 10 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. This is the big anniversary update that makes a number of significant changes and additions to Saber Interactive’s explosive third-person action game.

It’s worth noting that while Patch 10 is live now, Season Pass 2 and the Black Templars and Imperial Fists cosmetics do not go live until later today, September 4.

Patch 10.0 adds new game modes and maps, along with the Chaos Armour Pack, Champion Customisation, new weapons, and more.

The Chaos Armour Pack is available for free. You can finally change the armour set of your Heretic Astartes in PvP, but you have to unlock the set first. Each class requires you to score a certain amount of kills per match to unlock the corresponding skin.

The new PvP mode is Helbrute Onslaught, which is playable on all maps. Two teams of Chaos Marines fight to control strategic areas, but also to take control of the Helbrute. The first team to take control of an objective gets to control the Helbrute, until the opposite team takes it down. One player gets to control the Helbrute at a time, and this player is picked randomly among players who participated in securing the control point. For the team that failed to secure the first control point to have the Helbrute on their side, they need to slay their opponents’ Helbrute and secure a new designated control point.

Controlling the Helbrute grants the team a strong advantage, but killing it rewards significant amounts of points to your team. The Helbrute uses a Helbrute Thunder Hammer in melee and a Plasma Cannon in range, and it can unleash a battle cry with its special skill to regenerate its HP.

Stratagems is a new PvE game mode. Unlike classic Operations, there are only two difficulty modes: Normal and Hard. What makes this new game mode different are the various Battlefield Conditions, which change every day and week and make each operation different.

Battlefield Conditions can either help or hinder your progress. Upon successful completion, you receive a new currency called Accolades, which can be exchanged for valuable rewards.

There are weekly and daily Stratagems, and each Operation has its own set of modifiers. Publisher Focus Entertainment provided a few examples:

  • Summoner: Every uninterrupted call for Reinforcements summons the Extremis enemy.
  • Where you aiming at: Friendly fire damage from firearms and explosives is enabled
  • Cadia Stands: Imperial Guards spawn on levels.
  • Hunted: An unkillable Lictor constantly pursues you. Dealing enough damage will scare it away for a brief time.

Meanwhile, there are new PvP and PvE maps, the new Power Axe weapon (fans of the Warhammer 40,000 episode from Amazon's Secret Level animated anthology series have been calling for this one for some time now), the Pyreblaster and Pyrecannon for PvE only, the new Hero Weapon Variants, and the new Mutalith Vortex Beast and Chaos Spawn enemy, the latter of which is seen in the image below. The Chaos Spawn comes in three variations, and is swifter and more agile than its bulk suggests. Focus warned players to expect a tough fight.

Check out the Update 10.0 patch notes below. The Techmarine, Space Marine 2’s first new class, is due out early 2026 with patch 12.

Last month, Focus lifted the lid on Space Marine 2's second year of DLC, confirming patches 10 all the way up to 15, which takes us up to the end of the second quarter of next year (June 2026). On the way is a new Battle Barge expansion and a new Siege map coming Q2 2026.

Throughout the year, the Season Pass II will grant players nine new DLCs, with new Champion skins, armour pieces, and heraldry markings. While existing Chapters like the Blood Angels and Salamanders are to receive new cosmetics, fan-favorite Chapters like the Raptors, Iron Hands, and Carcharodons will get their due time in the spotlight.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Update 10.0 Patch Notes:

NEW FEATURES

NEW OPERATION: VORTEX

In Vortex, you'll return to the Astropathic Relay on Avarax, which has once again fallen silent. Your task is to investigate and cleanse the Relay of lingering heretical presence, and confront a mighty enemy lurking in its deepest levels.

NEW ENEMIES

  • Mutalith Vortex Beast

Mutalith Vortex Beast is a new boss in Operation Vortex. It is a towering, warp-twisted monstrosity that drags reality into spiraling chaos. It rends and crashes with its claws and unleashes storms of sorcerous energy upon the Astartes.

  • Chaos Spawn variations

Chaos Spawns are new Majoris enemies that can appear in all Operations featuring the Thousand Sons.

Chaos Spawns are dark abominations, powerful melee units infused with forbidden sorcery. They are fearsome opponents, especially when encountered in greater numbers. Their varied mutated limbs grant them a highly diverse and lethal moveset. However, it is an Astartes’ duty to study them and purge the heresy.

NEW WEAPONS

  • Power Axe (for PvE and PvP)

The Power Axe is a swift, aggressive power weapon capable of delivering relentless, infinitely chaining attacks. Wielded by the Vanguard, Assault and Bulwark classes, it allows a Space Marine to unleash a hail of blows upon their foes.

This is a fierce yet tactical weapon. Successfully executed perfect parry puts the Marine in a Power Stance, creating a moment of tactical choice: step back and release a devastating Power Wave or press forward to continue the fearsome combo.

  • Pyreblaster and Pyrecannon (for PvE)

In this update, we are introducing a new weapon: the Pyreblaster & Pyrecannon, for the Tactical and Heavy classes.

The flamer weapons now apply a burning effect on enemies, which inflicts significant damage over time (which scales based on difficulty). In addition to that, flames also slow down Minoris enemies.

An effective strategy would be to try to set as many enemies on fire and keep them burning.

NEW PVE MODE "STRATAGEMS"

Battlefield Conditions change weekly and daily, completing a Stratagem grants a new currency called “Accolades”.

Reworked Data Refinement Shop on Battle Barge:

The “Data Refinement” shop has been renamed and now offers a variety of additional items. Now, it will also redeem old Community Giveaways and Accolades items.

You can spend Accolades in the "Refinement & Redemption" shop to unlock unique items.

  • Added 6 Heroic Weapons to unlock with Accolades
  • Added 6 Heroic Armour Pieces

NEW PVP MODE: HELBRUTE ONSLAUGHT

Two teams of Chaos Marines will fight to control strategic areas, but also to take control of the Helbrute. The first team to take control of an objective gets to control the Helbrute, until the opposite team takes it down. One player gets to control the Helbrute at a time, and this player will be picked randomly among players who participated in securing the control point. For the team that failed to secure the first control point to have the Helbrute on their side, they will need to slay their opponents’ Helbrute and secure a new designated control point.

Controlling the Helbrute grants the team a strong advantage, but killing it rewards significant amounts of points to your team. One last thing, the Helbrute uses a Helbrute Thunder Hammer in melee, and a Plasma Cannon in range, and it can unleash a battle cry with its special skill to regenerate its HP.

NEW PVP MAP: BRIDGE

ADDED 6 CHAOS RELIC ARMOUR SETS FOR PVP

These Armour Sets are now available to unlock by playing and scoring kills in Eternal War mode. For each skin, you will have to get 9 kills in more than 9 Eternal War matches to unlock the skin of the class you’re playing.

NEW ORDEALS ADDED FOR PVP

ADDED NEW FINISHERS

  • Full set for Power Axe.
  • Full set for all melee weapons against Chaos Spawn.
  • 1 new finisher against Biovore

ADDED CHAMPION ARMOUR PIECES FOR CUSTOMISATION (ALL CLASSES)

This long awaited feature is now available! You can now mix various parts of the Champion’s Armours on different classes.

Please note that not every armour part will be available for mixing in every class.

NEW SEASON PASS CONTENT:

  • Black Templars Champion Pack added.
  • Imperial Fists Cosmetic Pack added.

GAMEPLAY & BALANCING TWEAKS

PVE WEAPONS

FIREARMS

Bolt Pistol: Headshot damage coefficient increased from 1.15 to 1.25 for all versions.

Master-Crafted Bolt Pistol Alpha

  • Spread reduction increased from 15% to 30%.
  • Recoil reduction increased from 20% to 40%.

Salvation of Bakka Artificer Bolt Pistol

  • Spread reduction increased from 30% to 45%.
  • Recoil reduction increased from 40% to 60%.

Gathalamor Crusade Relic Bolt Pistol

  • Spread reduction increased from 55% to 70%.
  • Recoil reduction increased from 60% to 80%.

Auto Bolt Rifle:

The Auto Bolt rifle suffers from that "default" gun syndrome that you swap to something more interesting immediately. The problem is that other guns, like Bolt Rifle, Bolt Carbine, Stalker Bolter and even Heavy Bolt Rifle are always going to be more specialized and more effective at what they do no matter what. Since the gun has a very limited number of versions, its perk tree is also very, very limited and it's difficult to find a gameplay role with it. The correct move would probably be to merge it with Bolt Rifle variants, but the problem is that it would mess up with saves too much and that drastic move is too risky.

With this update we are going to try to make it a mix of all bolters, to make that "default" gun at least more effective, but I fear that this gun will always be outshadowed by more specialized bolters.

  • Base damage increased by 25%.
  • Added damage falloff curve from distance. After 20 meters, weapon damage falls by 25%.
  • Headshot damage coefficient increased from 1.15 to 1.25 for all versions.

Heavy Bolt Rifle: Headshot damage coefficient increased from 1.15 to 1.25 for all versions except Drogos Reclamation and Ophelian Liberation.

  • Drogos Reclamation Artificer Heavy Bolt Rifle Beta: Headshot damage coefficient increased from 1.15 to 1.35.
  • Ophelian Liberation Relic Heavy Bolt Rifle Beta: Headshot damage coefficient increased from 1.15 to 1.35.

MELEE

Chainsword: Speed increased for all block versions.

Power Sword: Speed increased for all block versions.

Thunder Hammer:

The biggest issue of the Thunder Hammer right now is its contested health recovery, not its overall effectiveness. This will be addressed during contested health recovery rework. But at the moment, we wanted to improve it so it won’t feel like a worse version of other melee weapons.

  • Speed increased slightly for all balanced and block versions.
  • AoE radius for heavy and charged melee strikes increased by 50%.

GAMEPLAY QOL

  • Added a new charged Shield Bash attack for Bulwark class.

With this update we are expanding Bulwark's shield moveset to make shield based perk builds more interesting. We are going to continue doing this for other classes. While we think that overall Classes balance is good, the build variety within class could be improved and this cannot be done by simply tweaking numbers.

PVP WEAPONS

BALANCING - FIREARMS

Las Fusil: Charging speed decreased from 1.1 sec to 1 sec.

Stalker Bolt Rifle: Rate Of Fire increased from 150 shots per minute to 170 shots per minute.

Occulus Bolt Carbine: Full damage range increased from 20 meters to 30 meters.

Marksman Bolt Carbine: Headshot damage multiplier increased from 1.6 to 1.8.

Plasma Incinerator: Common Shot damage decreased by 15%.

Plasma damage: Fixed a bug where a player in a roll animation could not receive damage from plasma weapons.

BALANCING - MELEE

Thunder Hammer: Fixed issue that caused the Thunder Hammer to have a longer reach.

BALANCING - ABILITIES

Sniper’s Camo Cloak Ability: Ability cooldown increased from 25 seconds to 35 seconds.

Assault’s Jump Pack Ability

  • Ground Pound Strike preparation time reduced by 30% for Chainsword and Power Fist. Also the new Power Axe has reduced preparation time.
  • Minimum height for starting preparation of Ground Pound Strike increased from 6 metres to 9 meters.

Bulwark: Bulwarks can now be knocked out of a shield stance if they take a lot of damage from enemies within 5 seconds.

PROGRESSION

Extended Weapon arsenal in PvP: Added Power Axe to Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark

XP Recalculated: The amount of experience required to earn rewards has been reduced, making progression faster and more rewarding.

New Levels Added: We've expanded the progression system. The new max level is 48.

OTHER PVP CHANGES

  • Added new announcer events
  • Large amount of small fixes in level geometry collision.

CUSTOMISATION

  • Lots of minor customisation fixes.

OPERATIONS

Reliquary

  • Enemies spawn in the tombs should now be slightly less aggressive.
  • The ammo crate on the Heldrake's bridge should now always spawn.

All: Lots of minor fixes with level geometry.

SIEGE MODE

  • Lots of minor fixes with level geometry.
  • Lots of minor fixes with enemies getting stuck in some places.
  • Performance improvements.

AI

Carnifex: Fixed an issue causing the Carnifex to be too aggressive and too accurate with its ranged attacks.

All: Lots of minor fixes with animations.

GENERAL FIXES

  • Fixed a bug preventing Adrenaline Surge from Block-type weapons to not stagger enemies.
  • Fixed a bug causing the Auspex Scan effect to not apply to enemies after a perfect parry with the class perk "Battle Focus" equipped in some rare cases.
  • Fixed a bug with Bulwark's "Purity of purpose" perk not dealing damage to Barbed Strangler projectiles.
  • Fixed a bug causing Assault’s Jump Pack ability to not land properly in some rare cases..
  • Lots of minor bug fixes.
  • Lots of minor localisation bug fixes.
  • Lots of minor UI fixes.

TECH

  • Crash fixes and general stability improvements.
  • General connectivity improvements.

We've got plenty more on Space Marine 2 from our gamescom 2025 interview with Saber development chief Tim Willits. He spoke about how a large chunk of fans have "assumptions" about the Warhammer 40,000 universe that are incorrect as a result of the huge success of the game, why delaying Space Marine 2 was the best thing Saber ever did, and, of course, Space Marine 3.

LEGO Death Star Officially Announced With a Price of $1,000

LEGO has officially unveiled the heavily rumored LEGO Star Wars Death Star set. It’s an enormous build, comprised of 9,023 pieces, and it comes with a whopping 38 minifigures, including the two droids (see the listing at LEGO Store). The price might be jaw-dropping as well, as it comes in at $999.99, making it the most expensive set you can buy. It will be available October 1 for LEGO Insiders (sign up free here) and October 4 for everyone else.

The official name for the set is LEGO Star Wars Death Star - Ultimate Collector Series (75419). It’s not the full sphere-shaped build you may be expecting, either, but roughly one half of the Death Star. The flat portion is open, revealing a cross-section of the ultimate space weapon. Purchasing the Death Star gets you the TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack set free as a Gift With Purchase.

In the many rooms that comprise the build, you’ll find tons of references to the original Star Wars film trilogy. There’s the garbage compactor room where our heroes get stuck in A New Hope. There’s the room where Vader strikes down Obi Wan, and the communications hub where Han Solo, in Stormtrooper-armor, has a too-casual conversation with a superior officer.

Then there’s the conference room with the table where Vader and his commanders discuss the blowing up of planets. And the Emperor’s throne room, where Luke and Darth Vader have their final battle in Return of the Jedi. In other words, it’s a packed Death Star.

Among the 32 minifigures included in the set are Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, along with Stormtrooper-armored alternates. There’s Princess Leia, R2-D2, C-3PO, Chewbacca, and Obi Wan. There’s the Emperor and Darth Vader, along with various commanders, two Red Guard, six Stormtroopers, and more. You can see the full lineup in below.

Minifigures Included in LEGO Star Wars Death Star

  • Admiral Piett
  • C-3PO
  • Chewbacca
  • Colonel Yularen
  • Darth Vader
  • Director Krennic
  • Emperor Palpatine
  • Galen Erso
  • General Tagge
  • Grand Moff Tarkin
  • Han Solo
  • Han Solo (Stormtrooper Disguise)
  • Hot Tub Stormtrooper (The Skywalker Saga)

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - Season 3 Review

This is a non-spoiler review for all seven episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - Season 3. The series premieres Sunday, Sept. 7 on AMC.

Everyone's terse, scraggly-haired zompocalypse outdoorsman Daryl Dixon is back for a new round of European adventures, and -- yup! -- dystopian BFF Carol Peletier is still at his side. Season 3 of this Walking Dead spinoff continues to prove that more interesting things are being done in these new spinoffs -- particularly on this Daryl show -- than were explored in the final few seasons of the original series. There are some typical bumps and bruises, yes -- in the form of annoying characters and outrageous coincidences -- and Season 3 itself doesn't "up the ante" in any significant way, but it's still a solid chapter in Daryl and Carol's odyssey, with some of the best action the Walking Dead saga's ever produced.

Two things at the top here: Firstly, the season takes place in Spain (and was shot in Spain, giving everything a unique feel for the franchise). I know the italicized words above pointed at a spoiler-free review, but this was kind of a given. It's in all the promotional materials. The last we saw of Daryl and Carol, they were headed to England through the Chunnel but... there're in Spain, y'all. The season opener -- which has 28 Days Later vibes -- deals with this, while also gifting us with a fun guest spot for Stephen Merchant. It's why there are seven episodes this year instead of the usual six.

Secondly, the show (still) works well because Daryl is kind of a blank character. Let's put this another way: We know catastrophically little about Daryl given that he's been a main character on a whopping 14 seasons of television. He had an abusive childhood and can hunt and the zombie years have turned him into a near-unstoppable warrior, but that's really it. He was underserved on The Walking Dead, but on his own show he's the perfect character to have traveling to new places, meeting new people, and getting into new adventures. He comes with baggage that makes him the right amount of grumpy, and cautious, but he's a hero at heart. Having him experience other cultures, even in a ruined world setting, is why his series is superior to the back half of the old show.

The Spanish town at the center of this season is nestled inside a gorgeous, fortified medieval city. It's got it all, but of course there's always a catch.

This year, Daryl is reeling from the loss of Isabelle, even if they barely had any time at all as an established "thing." While the trippy Chunnel experience seemed to heal Carol, giving her final closure with Sofia, it sort of hardened Daryl, to the point where he and Carol now disagree about helping folks. Carol is more charitable and Daryl is even more closed off, singularly driven to getting back home. It's a simple, effective dynamic for Season 3 that nicely steers away from the dangerous waters of "are they actually gonna make 'Caryl' happen?" from Season 2.

And to Daryl's point, maybe these two should butt out of certain affairs because, as we know, things are tough all over. Even the most thriving communities tend to have dark secrets, so Season 3 is very much about "okay, what's wrong about THIS place?" Like how basically, for better or worse, The Walking Dead franchise is one long Woodbury, with each new locale having it's own Governor-style obstacle to overcome. The Spanish town at the center of this season is Solaz Del Mar, a survivor faction nestled inside a gorgeous, fortified medieval city. It's got it all, but of course there's always a catch.

Daryl and Carol find a temporary home with these fine folks after inadvertently saving the right people... and killing the wrong people. Which is to say that, by hook or by crook, our heroes will manifest a necessary violent confrontation between citizens and governing bodies that wouldn't have happened if they hadn't stumbled into town. Presiding over Solaz Del Mar is Óscar Jaenada's suave Federico, a ruler who definitely doesn't take to outsiders, but also a man who's under the thumb of an even bigger despot, seated in the historic El Alcazar in Seville.

So there are many fish for Daryl and Carol to fry, and at the heart of it all? The gateway call to action? Young lovers Roberto (Hugo Arbués) and Justina (Candela Saitta) -- a couple that gives metaphoric hope to Carol, who now just might be open to finding actual love herself. Also, a couple that gives Daryl heartburn, as he's temporarily taken himself out of the crusader business. And even though, you know Daryl and Carol are ultimately going to help these desperate people defeat their oppressors, it's easy to side with Daryl at the outset because Roberto can be quite grating. While Daryl exists to rarely speak his mind, Roberto is the antithesis, just a swirling combo of impetuous TV tropes that lead to him making rash decisions, getting captured (more than once), and generally causing more trouble than the visiting buttinski Americans here.

Does Roberto have reason to be reckless? Sure. His town isn't ideal and the cruel patriarchy has other designs for Justina other than letting her be with Roberto, but on a fairly decent season of a franchise that's been around for 15 years, he comes off as a lazy catalyst. Fortunately, in the plus column for Season 3 is a massively impressive city siege that brings together the best elements of Walking Dead stunt work. Plus, Season 3 even splits up Daryl and Carol for a time, pairing them with others -- like Alexandra Masangkay's Paz and Eduardo Noriega's Antonio, respectively -- giving this Daryl Dixon series some breathing room.

Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride are still a great pair, as you'd expect. Their bond runs so deep now that they can just exist in the same space and you feel the characters' history together. In a different decade of TV these two could just have new adventures each week, going all over the globe, A-Team/Kung Fu/Incredible Hulk style. The Walking Dead began as something intensely serialized and then sort of melted into a show reminiscent of a bygone era. Bottom line: If you're still locked into Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon remains the best of these last gasps.

Alien: Earth Provides Sympathy for the Villain by Turning Him Into Ripley

This article contains spoilers for Alien: Earth through Episode 5, “In Space, No One…”

Up until now, Kumi Morrow (Babou Ceesay) has been painted as the villain, or at least a main antagonist, of FX’s Alien: Earth. He’s a cyborg with a knife that pops out of his arm like some sort of futuristic Wolverine, he’s mercilessly focused on his goals, and when we first meet him, he’s locking Zaveri (Richa Moorjani), a crew member of the doomed spaceship Maginot, out of the Mother interface room on the ship, allowing the xenomorph to kill her. We’ve watched him manipulate children and threaten to kill families, and he will seemingly stop at nothing to retrieve the xenomorph eggs and other assorted “monsters” that are the property of Weyland-Yutani and are currently stuck in Boy Kavalier’s (Samuel Blenkin) science playground/private island called Neverland.

Episode 5, however, flips the script by showing us that Morrow isn’t the villain; he’s just as doomed and complicated as everyone else on the series. Not only that, it does this by turning him into none other than Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver).

To be clear, the show doesn’t literally do that, though given that we’ve gotten some serious weirdness with the xenomorphs and synth/human hybrids already, we wouldn’t put it past show creator Noah Hawley to somehow turn Morrow into Ripley, despite her currently being somewhere out in space on the Nostromo on her own doomed voyage in the continuity of the franchise (depending on what month Alien: Earth takes place). Instead, the episode, written and directed by Hawley, flashes back to the opening scenes of the series to show what went on between the crew of the Maginot waking up from cryosleep and that scene of Morrow locking Zaveri out of the interface room.

The short version is what you probably could have intuited from the flashes in the series premiere, albeit with some variations. A saboteur named Petrovich (Enzo Cilenti) who’s working for Boy Kavalier is breaking parts of the ship, turning it into a “missile,” as the ship’s senior engineer, Shmuel (Michael Smiley), refers to it. In the process, Petrovich releases two facehuggers, which take down the ship’s captain and one other crewmember. One xenomorph hatches and escapes, while the other, thanks to an attempted removal, dies and melts the dude’s neck. Gross!

Morrow is woken out of cryosleep and is trying to investigate who the saboteur is while also keeping the crew focused on the only thing that matters: the cargo. But they’re all steadily losing it as more and more creatures get loose. Ultimately, everyone on the crew is killed except Morrow, who puts himself in the safe area under Mother’s interface room, looping us back to where we began.

The first and simplest trick Hawley uses to get us to sympathize with Morrow is to make him the point-of-view character for the episode. It’s somewhat shared by Zaveri, but she’s such a spiraling mess thanks to the fact that she was “fucking Bronski,” the other crew member who got facehugged, not to mention her whole “having morals” thing, that it’s hard to get on board with her general lack of action. In a crew meeting after things have already gone seriously sideways, it’s Morrow, not Zaveri, who gets them under control, with Ceesay’s deep, commanding voice shutting everyone down immediately by conveying the dire nature of the situation.

Another trick? Hawley makes Morrow’s arc a detective story. Fiction is littered with complicated, morally grey detectives who are in too deep. They make tough choices when they have to, and we don’t always agree with them, but we love them anyway. That’s the slot Morrow neatly fits into in the episode, thanks to his investigation into the saboteur. He interrogates suspects, combs through footage, and is the thematic missile inside the ship, razor-focused on the cargo they’re hauling for Weyland-Yutani. “Nothing matters,” Morrow explains. “Not you. Not me. Not the fucking cat.”

Bummer for the cat, but to keep diving into this particular aspect of the episode, Morrow is dark and complicated, with tragedy in his past that motivates him. Add in Zaveri as the doomed dame who hands him the mystery, Mother as the police chief who puts him on the case, and Petrovich as the corporate patsy who opposes him, and this is one step away from being Space Chinatown (queue up someone saying “she’s my chestburster” SLAP “she’s my facehugger” SLAP “she’s my chestburster AND my facehugger”). Even in the midst of vicious alien attacks and the inevitability of the Maginot crashing into New Siam, it’s easy to see the one-to-one Hawley set up here with classic detective tales in order to help us understand where Morrow is coming from.

Then there’s his essential tragedy. To the tune of “We’ll Meet Again” by Vera Lynn, we discover Morrow’s heart-wrenching backstory. He’s looking through photos and documents from Earth, and as we discover, he left his 11-year-old daughter Estelle behind. A lovely scene on the beach shows Morrow pointing to the sky and telling her, “There. See that? I’m going there. When you miss me, or you want to talk. Look straight up. I’ll always be there, looking back at you. So be good because I’ll be watching.” This is followed by an absolute gut-punch, a document from year eight in the Maginot’s 65-year mission stating, “Mr. Morrow, this is to inform you that your daughter Estelle, 19, died in a fire that destroyed her home on the 12th April. Her effects have been placed in storage for you on your return in 53 years.”

Could Morrow have saved Estelle if he had stayed home? We don’t know, and neither of course does Morrow. There’s a clear parallel between his inability to stop the random event of a house fire and Morrow purposefully using a blowtorch to seal Zaveri out of the Mother interface room later in the episode, figuratively sealing the deal that whatever human part of him exists was left behind on Earth, on the beach with his daughter. While Morrow is a cyborg, he might as well be a synth, because there’s no pity or humanity left in him other than in those private moments looking at old documents in his cabin. Even given this, we feel for him anyway, and it’s manipulative for sure: How can you hate a man who mourns his daughter? But history is littered with men who have tragic backstories and use that to motivate nihilistic and destructive impulses. Morrow is no different.

History is littered with men who have tragic backstories and use that to motivate nihilistic and destructive impulses.

To loop back to what we said at the top, the last layer Hawley puts on Morrow is to connect him with Ellen Ripley in an episode that almost parallels the original 1979 Alien. It’s not exact, but there are clear notes present. In the original, Warrant Officer Ripley was the member of the crew of the Nostromo telling them to stick with the quarantine protocols, just as Morrow does in this episode. Morrow also has a complicated relationship with the antagonistic (and possibly perverted) Teng, a riff on the similarly complicated relationship between Ripley and Ash (Ian Holm) in the original film*. The dinner scene in the first episode of Alien: Earth is almost a direct analogue to the one that opens the original film, while the crew member meeting parallels the famous chestburster scene from Alien, albeit with the bloodsucking Species 19 instead of the xenomorph and the blood spurting coming a little later.

(*Not to muddy this up, but Hawley does give Morrow elements of Ash as well through Morrow’s devotion to Mother and the xenomorph.)

But there are two elements of the episode that most clearly parallel Morrow with Ripley, one sort of funny, the other tragic. The kind of silly one? Morrow is noticeably in his underwear when he’s woken from cryosleep, something that Zaveri calls out to him. Similarly, there are several famous scenes of Ripley wandering around in her underwear in Alien; nobody calls her out, but the scene in Alien: Earth is too pointed to not be a parallel. As for the second, Ripley also had a daughter who died while she was in space. Amanda Ripley isn’t established until Aliens, but the star character of the beloved video game Alien: Isolation was 10 years old when Ripley left Earth on the Nostromo, and after searching for her mother, Amanda died by the time Ripley was brought back home in the first sequel. There was no dying in a fire for Amanda; she passed away at age 66 of unknown causes. But it is a tragedy that spurs Ripley on in Aliens.

That’s actually where Morrow and Ripley differ, because finding out her daughter died is what motivates Ripley to become a de facto mother to Newt (Carrie Henn), thus becoming more human, not less, because of the experience. Morrow goes in the other direction, cutting off his humanity so he can’t feel the overwhelming heartache of a child dying. And as we’ve seen, he has no compunctions about using another child, in this case Slightly (Adarsh Gourav), to get what he wants.

Midway through the episode, Shmuel complains to his assistant about the mission: “It’s 65 years of your life. Equals a quarter share. And then you go, ‘oh, yes, please sir, send me on another mission.’” For Morrow, that’s exactly what happens, not because he loves killing or working for Weyland-Yutani, but because it’s the only thing he has left.

While we may have spent an hour and change getting to understand Morrow, he’s not ultimately Ripley; he’s the xenomorph.

We discover in the final scene of the episode that Yutani (the grandmother of the current Yutani, played by Sandra Yi Sencindiver) essentially adopted Morrow as a child. “I’m very grateful,” he tells Yutani the younger. “She had no reason to take me in. A feral boy with a palsied arm begging in the street.” Again, we feel sympathy for him because of his condition, as well as everything mentioned above: the point of view, the detective story elements, the similarities to Ripley. But the final shot of the episode, set to the tune of “Cherub Rock” by the Smashing Pumpkins, dissuades us from any notion that Morrow will be the hero going forward. The whole city lay ahead of him, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal of getting Yutani what she wants. He is the most fearsome thing she’s ever seen, and while we may have spent an hour and change getting to understand Morrow, he’s not ultimately Ripley; he’s the xenomorph.

Magic's Lord of the Rings Commander Decks Are Finally Back in Stock at Amazon, and Some Are Even Discounted

Magic: The Gathering is on the verge of introducing a new Spider-Man set, but prior Universes Beyond sets aren’t being forgotten.

Aside from the unlikely team-up between a Warhammer 40k Tyranid and Sonic the Hedgehog, our all-seeing eye(s) have spotted that the Commander Decks from 2023’s The Lord of the Rings set have popped up at Amazon again.

Clearing old stock, or a fresh printing? It’s hard to say, but with two of the four decks discounted, it’s worth a look.

Lord of the Rings MTG Commander Decks: Back in Stock at Amazon

Over at Amazon, you can find all four decks available, although one—The Hosts of Mordor—is way higher in price.

This Sauron-helmed deck is very fun to play, but whether it’s worth just shy of $90 is up to you.

Thankfully, other options are a little cheaper. Riders of Rohan, a deck we picked as one of our picks for the best decks around right now, is $49.92 at the time of writing.

Looking for an aggressive, combat-heavy deck? This is a great choice, albeit one thats not discounted.

What is discounted are both the Food and Fellowship deck and the Elven Council one. The first, which stars Frodo and Sam and has a life gain theme from sacrificing food tokens, is now $48.59.

Finally, Elven Council has Galadriel, Legolas, and Arwen, and is now just $45.87. It has a nice reprint of Heroic Intervention in there, too, while Raise the Palisade still fetches a decent price.

Each pack comes with a couple of cards in a ‘Collector Booster Sample Pack’, too, meaning you can find some nifty foils and borderless treatments, too.

For more on Magic: The Gathering, check out what Wizards of the Coast had to say about rumors that the Spidey set will only see a single print run.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Review

Demon Slayer changed the game for anime movies based on TV shows when studio ufotable decided to adapt the Mugen Train storyline into a feature film rather than a season of TV. Not only did that movie go on to become a monumental hit, but it remains a high point of anime, a self-contained story with a good balance of action and character development.

Now it seems the promise made by that movie — that Demon Slayer was not restrained by its medium and could deliver the best adaptation in the best medium for it — has fallen completely flat. That's because Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is a major step down from what Mugen Train achieved, a movie that feels like an unedited compilation film, a poorly stitched-together series of episodes with horrendous pacing and a never-ending series of flashbacks in what is obviously a very incomplete story. Not all is lost, however, because we do get some cool character moments, some nice visuals, and arguably the best back story the franchise has done.

The movie starts right where Season 4 ended, with the Demon Slayer Corps now scattered and surrounded by hordes of demons inside Muzan's ever-shifting demonic castle dominion after an attempt to kill the king of demons failed. It goes without saying that this movie is not for newcomers, and the plot is virtually incomprehensible if you have never seen the previous seasons — much like Infinity War is not meant to be your first MCU movie. Be warned, however, that Infinity Castle is not just a continuation of Season 4 (Hashira Training Arc), but it also connects to storylines going as far back as Mugen Train. This is the start of the grand finale, after all, so we're beginning to see payoffs to several storylines.

Indeed, Infinity Castle (the first part of a trilogy) raises the stakes and makes it clear from the get-go that even if Tanjiro is probably going to make it out of this fine, the same can't be said of his fellow warriors. Whether it's in the big fights against high-ranking demons or even just in the many small skirmishes against dozens of small demons, the Demon Slayer Corps members are overwhelmed and in grave danger, which adds to the tension of the film.

The story is essentially divided into three fights. First off, we have Shinobu encountering the Upper Rank Two demon, followed by Zenitsu fighting his own personal demons, and finally Tanjiro getting his rematch against Akaza. The first two parts reach a satisfying climax to the respective character arcs, while Tanjiro also clears a big stepping stone in his story. The biggest compliment one can give this movie is that Zenitsu is finally no longer annoying, but rather gets a compelling dramatic story in Infinity Castle. The standout part of the film, however, is the back story to arguably the biggest non-Muzan villain in the franchise — Akaza. Though Demon Slayer has presented plenty of demon flashbacks in the past, this is by far the most effective one in what it says about the allure of demons, and the cruelty of humanity, all without actually excusing or condoning the actions of Akaza.

Visually, studio ufotable gets great mileage out of the Infinity Castle location, with the ever-shifting scenery adding to the danger and the stakes as characters constantly get blocked by a randomly appearing building, or transported elsewhere by a disappearing hallway. It's a creative way of breaking up the repetitive fight scenes — of which there are many. Elsewhere, the fight animation is about what you'd expect from Demon Slayer, not particularly better with the higher budget, which is more of a testament to the animators and VFX artists at ufotable than anything else in that they already deliver big-screen spectacle on a weekly basis.

A lot of the emotional pay-offs are undercut by the film's overuse of flashbacks.

That being said, a lot of the emotional pay-offs are undercut by the film's overuse of flashbacks. This is a pattern that the anime has been guilty of for a few years now, but when presented in a single feature film the flaws are more glaring. The 155-minute runtime introduces a good dozen flashbacks that intercut the fight scenes at critical moments and severely slow down the pacing while also making the runtime feel longer. This is not necessarily a dealbreaker when watching a series on TV, because you at least have a week to digest the flashbacks and the information they deliver. In a feature film, however, they get no time to breathe. It is jarring to see the huge tonal shifts the movie goes through on a scene-by-scene basis when you cut from a fight to a flashback every few minutes. Perhaps this problem will be fixed when we get the inevitable TV edit of Infinity Castle, but as it stands this is simply lacking.

Samsung Announces the Galaxy S25 FE and Latest Galaxy Tablets

It's time for Samsung's B-team Galaxy devices – the company has officially announced its new budget smartphone, the Galaxy S25 FE, and its latest and greatest tablet, the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. The two devices are available today from Samsung's website, starting at $649.99 and $1,199.99, respectively.

The new Galaxy S25 FE is all-around the same phone as the S24 FE, with 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, a 6.7-inch, 120HZ OLED display, and the same 50MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, and 8MP telephoto camera specs; but there are some tweaks to the formula. For instance, the S25 FE's front-facing selfie camera is now 12MP instead of 10MP.

Battery capacity is up (4,900mAh, up from 4,700mAh) and it now supports 45W wired charging rather than 25W. The company doesn't say whether the phone features built-in magnetic Qi2 charging, but it would be weird if it did, considering the mainline Galaxy S25 phones don't either – but traditional wireless charging is, you know, still there. It has an Exynos 2400 chip versus the 2400e before.

Oh, and say goodbye to the pastel green and blue colors of the S24 FE. This year's phones come in dark gray, white, navy blue, and an "Icy Blue" color that, based on the images Samsung shared with IGN, really looks like a timid, barely-there lavender.

The Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is likewise a minor spec bump, with a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus chip (versus the 9300 Plus in the S10 Ultra), the same 14.6-inch, 120Hz AMOLED display that peaks at 1,600 nits. Memory and storage are unchanged versus last year: It gets 12GB RAM for the 256GB and 512GB storage tiers, and 16GB of RAM for the 1TB tier. Expandable storage is a little more generous, though – now you can use up to a 2TB microSD card instead of 1.5TB. Finally, battery capacity is up a tad at 11,600mAh, versus 11,200mAh last year.

The one big change is that instead of a follow-up to the 12.4-inch Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, the company has announced the Tab S11. It's a cheaper entry-level option than the S10 Plus, starting at $799.99, but it has a smaller, 11-inch, 120Hz AMOLED display with 1,000-nit brightness (up to 1,600 at its peak). The S11 comes with 12GB RAM, with storage ranging from 128GB to 512GB, expandable via microSD to up to 2TB. Battery capacity for the entry-level S11 is 8,400mAh, and the device supports 45W wired charging. Both the S11 and the S11 Ultra come in gray and silver colorways.

Based on what Samsung announced today, the S25 FE still won't be the top budget Android phone you can get; it still has the much cheaper, $499 Pixel 9a to compete with, after all. But Samsung does make solid Android tablets, and the new Tab S11 options should keep that going. Shame about the missing 12.4-inch option; but hey, smaller tablets can be nice, too, and so can lower prices.

South Park Sees Crazed Kids Doing Things With Labubus They Really Shouldn't and Satan's Relationship With Trump Take a Shocking Twist in New Episode

South Park has continued its assault on Donald Trump in its latest episode, ending on a shock development for the U.S. president’s relationship with Satan.

Warning! Spoilers for South Park Season 27 Episode 4 follow:

This week (South Park is on a bi-weekly schedule now), we see the Labubu craze hit South Park Elementary. Labubus, for the uninitiated, are a line of collectible plush toys created by Hong Kong illustrator Kasing Lung and typically sold in blind boxes. They have taken the world by storm, with interest — as any parent’s wallet will probably attest — peaking over the summer amid a surge on social media platforms such as TikTok.

In South Park we see the kids accusing each other’s Labubus of being fake (yes, this will probably hit home for any parent of young children watching). Fake Labubus, dubbed Lafufus in the real world, are becoming a big part of the playground banter for all the frustrating reasons you’d imagine. A bemused Jesus Christ is brought in as school counselor to sort the fighting out.

Jesus meet Labubu. Labubu meet Jesus. pic.twitter.com/0m2451t3Jk

— South Park (@SouthPark) September 4, 2025

Red asks Butters to hang out with her on her birthday, but asks him to buy her a specific, rare Labubu as a present. Butters learns all about Trump’s tariffs as he hunts the Labubu down in an Asian restaurant converted into an opportunistic Asian pop up store. A blind box costs $85, which Butters doesn’t seem thrilled about. The price hike is due to tariffs, he’s told. That cost is being passed on to the customer! Of course, the Labubu in the blind box isn’t the right one, forcing Butters to roll the dice once again. The U.S. government is blamed for the high cost, he’s told.

Butters experiences the reality of tariffs when he has to buy a Labubu doll for his girlfriend’s birthday in an all-new episode tonight, September 3 at 10/9c on Comedy Central and tomorrow on Paramount+. pic.twitter.com/P5xtAARbvv

— South Park (@SouthPark) September 3, 2025

Meanwhile, Trump-obsessed Fox News is trying to work out the nature of the President’s relationship with Satan. “We’re just sort of hanging out,” the Prince of Darkness tells the gaggle of reporters outside Air Force One.

It’s the question on everyone’s mind! pic.twitter.com/9ZYTpSeTwa

— South Park (@SouthPark) September 4, 2025

Back at South Park Elementary, Jesus is still trying to wrap his head around the Labubu craze and why the kids are fighting over them. A TikTok unboxing video from one of the students explains all, but then things take a darker turn as we see the student use the Labubu to perform a satanic ritual, complete with vomited chicken blood, to bring the Labubu to life. “Labubus are demonic,” Jesus is told.

Butters uses a claw machine to win the ultra rare Labubu Red wants, and gives it to her at her birthday party. She uses it to perform a ritual, accidentally summoning Trump and Satan. Jesus, desperate to put an end to the demonic tyranny of the Labubus, arrives on the scene. Jesus tells Satan to leave Earth, but Satan can’t. He’d love to leave Trump, he says, but he’s “bound to him.”

Then, the shocking reveal: Satan can’t leave Trump because he’s pregnant. “Yes, we’re together. We’ve been together for months. And I want to leave him, but I can’t,” Satan declares, “because I’m pregnant. So now you all know. I am forced to stay in this situation for several more years.” Yes, Satan is having Trump’s “butt baby.”

This season's South Park episodes have so far skipped a week, with reports indicating the show's bi-weekly release schedule will remain in place for the rest of Season 27.

The latest run of South Park episodes, which are currently airing on Comedy Central and Paramount+, have drawn some of the series' best-ever ratings, as well as global attention, for their no-holds-barred depiction of President Trump. But episodes are taking longer to produce, with just four arriving in the eight weeks since Season 27's debut.

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone make each episode week-by-week, which makes for a chaotic production but topical shows. The elongated production time allows the pair more time to work on each episode, something Paramount is reportedly happy with.

It’s worth noting that during their San Diego Comic-Con 2025 panel, which took place the day after the Trump-skewering season opener aired, Parker said the pair were unsure what the next episode would be, revealing the decision was “super stressful.”

All eyes are on South Park after its Season 27 premiere went so hard on Trump that the White House issued a statement in response.

The F.C.C. recently approved Skydance’s $8 billion merger with Paramount, which had needed Trump administration approval. However, Parker and Stone have a big-money deal of their own: a reported $1.5 billion contract to make 50 episodes of South Park over five years for Paramount.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot 'Not Just Revisiting the Past' But Will Honor Show's Original DNA, Sarah Michelle Gellar Says

Buffy the Vampire Slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, has said that the series' upcoming reboot will be more than just a means to revisit the past, while emphasizing that the fresh project will still honor the original show.

Speaking to IGN, Gellar said that the Buffy revival would be "meaningful" to fans of the original who loved its focus on found family — which, back in the day, meant Buffy's loyal group of friends.

The upcoming Buffy reboot introduces a new Slayer, played by Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and a new cast of characters that include a fresh batch of high school classmates. Gellar herself, however, will still appear in a recurring role, including within the show's pilot episode, and act as an executive producer.

"Fandoms like Buffy still resonate today — because it’s not just about the show, but about the community that’s grown around it," Gellar told IGN.

"For me, the heart of Buffy was always about found family — that sense of belonging and being loved for who you are — and that’s more important now than ever. That’s what makes this new chapter so meaningful, it’s not just revisiting the past but honoring the show’s original DNA. The fact that people still carry such love for the show after all these years is incredibly special."

Alongside work on the new Buffy reboot pilot, filming of which is now underway, Gellar is currently overseeing another 90s revival, eBay '95, a 1990s-themed eBay sale event for the online auction site's 30th birthday this week. Her partnership involves curating a list of the 30 sought-after collector's items from the decade, with all proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish.

Items in the list include a 1999 Charizard Holo 1st Edition Shadowless Pokémon Trading Card, a Red Card Wave Luke Skywalker Jedi Brown figurine, a Spider-Man #1 Gold Torment Variant comic signed by Stan Lee and Todd McFarlane, and a LEGO Black Knight Dungeon Master's Castle set.

"Everyone is passionate about something, maybe it’s LEGO, trading cards, or comic books, and all of these things still bring people joy," Gellar said of the auction. "And at the heart of it, that’s what fandom really is – finding a community of people who love the same things you do. Pairing this curation with Make-A-Wish, a charity so close to my heart, made it a no-brainer."

Gellar told IGN she was "sworn to secrecy" on further details of the new Buffy series, a sentiment she continued in a fresh post on Instagram sharing a handful of new behind the scenes photos from the pilot episode's production. The images show Gellar with the series' direct Chloé Zhao, as well as the actress holding an original Buffy the Vampire Slayer figurine (speaking of, Gellar has signed another figurine, and a Buffy Funko Pop, as part of the auction).

The images also show a note from Zhao to the reboot's pilot's cast, shared on what looks to be a call sheet for the shoot's first day of filming.

"Let's embark on this adventure together with joy, empathy, curiosity and respect," Zhao wrote. "Life is both beautiful and difficult. We will be rewarded and tested. We will be brave. We will live to the fullest and know that we are never alone. We will always have each other. Happy first day! Chloé."

The new Buffy reboot is being produced by Hulu, which is yet to formally announce if the pilot will be picked up for a full series. If it does, the series is expected set to go into full production next spring. For now, there's no word yet on any further returning characters other than Buffy herself, but Gellar has previously said she hopes to see other classic characters return. Indeed, Buffy actress Charisma Carpenter has already told IGN she'd be keen to appear, after an "unjust" end to her character on spin-off Angel.

AU Deals: Rare Wins on Nintendo Exclusives and a Month Dedicated to Discounted Logitech Essentials

I always tell myself I'll stop stockpiling games, but these sales keep proving me a liar. When the discounts are this sharp, it feels less like spending and more like investing in future fun. From family favourites to violent epics, today's spread has plenty worth pulling the trigger on.

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I'm using a flaming grenade to light a 12-candle cake baked for Killzone: Mercenary, the 2013 FPS that brought the Helghast war to PS Vita. This was no half-hearted spin-off either. At the time, it felt like a full console-grade shooter shrunk down to fit in my hands, complete with weighty weapons, sharp visuals, and a clever mercenary angle (letting you earn cash and upgrade your kit across solo and multi). Underrated and, I daresay, never to be remastered.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

On Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe still reigns supreme as the racer that defined a generation. Nintendo revealed its original prototype ran with two screens in development, a leftover idea from the DS era. Meanwhile, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has hidden character dialogue that only appears if you hack villagers into moving to your island out of sequence. Both are still timeless mood pieces.

Nintendo

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

Xbox Series X owners should eye off Grand Theft Auto V, which famously had a full submarine combat system cut before launch. On the flip side, DOOM: The Dark Ages brings back the original composer behind the iconic E1M1 riff for a cheeky Easter egg. I've sunk hours in both and can vouch they're worth every cent.

  • Split Fiction (-16%) - A$59 A narrative-driven thriller with branching paths and multiple endings. Good choice for fans of choice-heavy storytelling.
  • PGA Tour 2K25 (-51%) - A$59 Golf sim with career depth, licensed courses, and strong online support. A deep sports package at half price.
  • Grand Theft Auto V (-60%) - A$24 Rockstar's sprawling crime epic still shines. With GTA Online updates ongoing, it's a steal at this price.
  • Doom: The Dark Ages (-34%) - A$79 Id Software’s latest demon-slaying romp adds brutal medieval flair to the franchise. Perfect for adrenaline junkies who love fast-paced shooters.

Xbox One

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (-73%) - A$24 Rockstar’s cowboy epic delivers gripping story, stunning visuals, and endless open-world immersion. One of the best bargains in gaming at this discount.
  • Borderlands: Handsome Col. (-53%) - A$33.20 Includes Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel with all DLC. Loot-shooting chaos and irreverent humour make this a must for co-op fans.
  • SpellForce III Reforced (-52%) - A$30.70 A clever RTS-RPG hybrid with strong campaign content and customisation. Appeals to fans of Baldur’s Gate and StarCraft in equal measure.

The Lokithor J400 Cordless Car Jump Starter Drops to Under $35 at Amazon (Over 60% Off)

A jump starter is an essential part of car's emergency kit and you don't need to pay a premium for a cordless model that gets the job done reliably. Amazon is currently offering the Lokithor J400 12V 2,000A cordless car jump starter for just $33.97 shipped after you clip both $20 and 40% off coupons on the product page. Not only does it function as a car jump starter, it can also be used as a power bank to recharge your smartphone in a pinch.

Lokithor J400 12V 2,000A Car Jump Starter for $33.97

The Lokithor J400 is a compact 12V cordless car jump starter that can supply 2,000A of peak power and is capable of jump starting up to 8L gas or 6L diesel engines. The sizeable 8,000mAh battery will give you several jump starts before needing a recharge. Since the battery uses lithium (NMC) cells, it depletes a lot slower than your traditional battery and will retain most of its charge even after 24 months of non-use. The J400 also doubles as a portable power bank, so you can also use it to charge your iPhone or smartphone in a pinch.

The J400 charges quickly over USB Type-C and if you don't have a cable on hand, both USB Type-C to Tpe-C and USB Type-A to Type-C cables are supplied in the package. There's even a flashlight with three separate modes (flashlight, SOS, and strobe) for emergencies. The jump starter is one of the smallest models in its class (3.4" x 6.9" x 1.7"), weighs about 1.5 pounds, and stows away easily in your trunk or dash.

PS5 Headsets Just Got Better for PC Gamers Thanks to PlayStation Link Software Update

Thanks to new Windows 10 and 11 software for PlayStation 5 audio devices like the Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore earbuds, you can now get their full range of functionality when using them on PC. This is particularly handy for those who game on both the PS5 and PC, as these first-party are some of the best PS5 headsets around and are now essentially cross-platform devices through the PlayStation Link PC driver.

While these devices worked on PC before, they didn't have proper software support which limited their versatility. Per the official PlayStation support page, the driver will automatically install when you connect the PS Link USB adapter. The new PS Link driver isn't as robust as apps you'll see for new Razer headsets or SteelSeries earbuds, for example, but it's an upgrade from previously having no PC software support. With the PS Link PC driver, you can manually adjust volume on the OS, toggle your microphone and adjust the sidetone mic feedback volume, switch EQ presets, and update the device's firmware if needed. You can also monitor battery life through the driver.

The biggest addition here is being able to swap audio profiles through the EQ presets, so you can customize your sound experience and get more out of the headset and/or earbuds. The standard setting offers a balanced and flat sound experience, but you can adjust frequencies to boost bass and/or lower treble, for example.

If you're considering getting new audio gear in light of this update, be sure to check out our reviews of the Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore earbuds, or check out our roundup of the best PS5 headsets we've tested. And in case you missed it, catch up on the latest State of Play stream that centered around the upcoming James Bond game 007: First Light.

eBay Anniversary Sale Sale: Extra 20% Off the Bose Outlet Store

I've broken out some of the more notable discounts below.

Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar

The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar is the highest end sound bar speaker in Bose's product lineup. The soundbar measures 41" long and houses a 5.1.2ch array consisting of nine total speakers. Two of these are upward firing dipole speakers for spatial audio and Dolby Atmos supported content. The soundbar also incorporates Bose's TrueSpace technology, which does a great job of simulating a 3-dimensional soundscape even though internal speakers in soundbars are generally spaced close together. "A.I. Dialogue Mode" automatically balances voice and surround sound so that you don't need to turn up the volume to deafening levels in order to hear what everyone is saying.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones

The QuietComfort Ultra is Bose's newest noise-cancelling headphone, released in late 2023. It is a significant upgrade over the standard QuietComfort headphones in audio and noise-cancelling performance and is easily comparable to other current heavyweights like the Sony WH-1000XM5/XM6 and the AirPods Max. The Ultra features redesigned ear cushions that are both more comfortable and provide a more secure seal, resulting in better passive noise isolation. It also supports spatial audio for better immersion, and it's updated with the new Bluetooth 5.3 protocol. Android users can rejoice in the fact that the Ultra supports Snapdragon Sound, a feature that offers optimized sound quality, connection stability, and latency for your streaming audio when the headphone is connected to an Android device.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds

If you use an Android smartphone, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds is a better pair of earbuds than the AirPods Pro 2. This is Bose's top-end earbuds, with better noise canceling than the QuietComfort Ultra over-ear headphone due to its sealed in-ear design and better passive noise isolation. Of course the earbuds also boast top notch audio quality to match. Like the Ultra headphones, the earbuds support Snapdragon Sound when paired with an Android device.

Bose QuietComfort Headphones

The Bose QuietComfort is just a rename of the QuietComfort 45. Aside from the name and a few different color choices, they are the same headphone. The QuietComfort features excellent sound and noise cancelling performance for its price. They're close in quality to Bose's flagship headphone, which is nearly double the price. The QuietComfort is comfortable to wear and has been updated with faster USB Type-C charging, a longer 24-hour battery life on a single charge, and an "Aware" mode that lets you listen in on your surroundings.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Open Earbuds

The Ultra Open earbuds is for people who don't want any type of noise isolation, be it passive or active. These earbuds site just outside your ear canal, thus leaving them completely unimpeded. These are a great pair of earbuds for situations where you need to be aware of your surroundings, for example if you're jogging on the streets, taking a fitness class that involves listening to a training instructor, or working at home whilst keeping an ear open for your kids. It's definitely a more niche type of earbuds, so make sure you know exactly what you want if you opt for this model.

Every LEGO Book Nook Set Now Available In September 2025

LEGO hasn't been just for kids for a while now. There are countless "adults welcome" LEGO sets that are perfect for offices, game rooms, or to mount on your walls. Sure, most of these sets are nerd-adjacent, from Star Wars display models to an enormous Lord of the Rings Rivendell set, but they are a testament to just how much the toy brand has changed over the years. Some of the biggest upcoming LEGO sets are 18+ builds specifically targeted at adult collectors this year. And If you're both an avid reader and huge LEGO fan like me, the three new themed book nooks now available are absolutely worth checking out. These book nooks are an entirely new type of LEGO set made to fit perfectly on your shelf and live amongst your book collection.

With the new sets available now, LEGO joins a wide range of brands offering book nook kits for adults in 2025.

Every LEGO Book Nook Available Now

All three of the LEGO book nooks came out earlier this summer alongside the rest of June LEGO lineup, and the one pair of bookends here were just released at the beginning of September. They're all riddled with detail and Easter eggs from their respective series and are modular; there's the folded in book nook style and the "unfolded" view. The unfolded mode offers a great display of famous scenes like the Harry and Ron finding Platform 9 3/4 or Gandalf facing off against the Balrog. The modularity makes these sets not only serve their purpose as book nooks well but also as standalone LEGO display pieces for your shelves or coffee tables.

The set of Wicked bookends function a little bit differently by replacing the idea of a simple nook with more of a functional aspect. This is the only bookends set we've seen so far.

LEGO Lord of the Rings Book Nook

The Lord of the Rings LEGO Book Nook includes a super detailed Gandalf minifigure with his sword and staff and a buildable, fully posable Balrog figure. It recreates the iconic scene on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm in the Fellowship of the Ring, with a plaque stating "you shall not pass!" front and center. It's 1,201 pieces and is sure to be a fun build, especially if you have the movie playing in the background!

As a book nook, this set would also go great alongside a collection of Lord of the Rings books. Since it's release it has also topped our list of the best Lord of the Rings gifts for fans of the series.

LEGO Sherlock Holmes Book Nook

The LEGO Sherlock Holmes Book Nook is the biggest of the trio, coming it at 1,359 pieces, and definitely has the most Easter eggs — fitting for our favorite detective. When folded in nook form, the outer cover has the iconic silhouette of Sherlock and his magnifying glass from the actual Arthur Conan Doyle books. This set also comes with five detailed minifigures: Sherlock, Dr. Watson, Moriarty, Irene Adler, and seemingly a member of the Baker Street Irregulars. When unfolded, it's a detailed recreation of 221B Baker Street in London where Sherlock lives.

LEGO Hogwarts Express Book Nook

The LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express Book Nook should be familiar to longtime LEGO fans, since the iconic red train has seen many iterations over the years. Of the three, I'd prefer to have this unfolded as it seemlessly splits the scene between King's Cross station in London and the magical Platfrom 9 3/4. It looks a bit silly folded in book nook mode in my opinion, but it still works. At 832 pieces, it's the smallest of the three, but included are Harry Potter and Ron Weasley minifigures along with their trolleys, Hedwig, and Scabbers. If you're looking for a set of bookends for your Harry Potter book collection, this is a great gift idea for any Harry Potter fan.

LEGO Wicked: Glinda & Elphaba Bookends

We had the chance to build the LEGO Wicked bookends and found them to be a great alternative to the more traditional book nooks. This is essentially two sets in one and you build both bookends separately before placing them on your shelf. The insdie of each book houses a little scene that allow them to double as a book nook if you turn them on their side.

Are There Any Upcoming LEGO Book Nooks?

As of September 2025, there are no known plans for any more LEGO Book Nooks. That being said, the first three sets that released in June and the new Wicked bookends have been extremely popular so far. The success of these initial book nooks would indicated that LEGO will almost certainly be releasing more in the near future. We can only speculate as to which franchises will get the book nook treatment next, but since LEGO hasn't strayed beyond collaborations that are directly tied to book series', there's only so many potential next steps.

The first and most obvious next book nook would be an expansion of Dune. There has only been one LEGO Dune set so far and it was overall very popular. Something like a giant sand worm book nook would be a great choice. It's possible Disney could also join the fray with a Winnie the Pooh set or something similar.
