Warning: this article contains spoilers for Predator: Killer of Killers.

Predator: Killer of Killers, which is now streaming on Hulu, is not what you think. Or at least, there’s a key piece of information that 20th Century Studios has been hiding about the animated movie… Yes, there is an anthology element to the movie, telling three stories throughout time set in the Predator universe. But the movie is actually one big story that connects all three elements, and ends with a wild final act that not only blows the Predator cinematic universe wide open, but also potentially sets up a sequel to Prey. Yes, seriously.

Predator: Killer of Killers’ Ending Explained

Let’s lay some of the groundwork first, before we get into that scream-inducing ending of the movie. In the film, we’re introduced to three different characters: a vengeful Viking voiced by Lindsay LaVanchy; a vengeful ninja in feudal Japan voiced by Louis Ozawa; and a non-vengeful World War II pilot, voiced by Rick Gonzalez.

However, it’s clear things are not what they seem at the end of the first section, subtitled “The Shield.” In it, we follow Ursa (LaVanchy), a warrior from 841 A.D. who wields her shield like a weapon, and is looking to kill the man who forced her to kill her own father as a girl. Joining Ursa is her son, Anders (Damien Haas), as well as a cadre of hardened warriors. But when it comes time to strike down the man she’s chased her whole life, it turns out there’s something else there. You guessed it! It’s a Yautja, aka a Predator. He slaughters Ursa’s whole clan and fights her nearly to the death, though he ultimately loses to the Viking, getting impaled under the icy water on an anchor thanks to some quick thinking. It comes at a heavy cost, though, as Ursa discovers that Anders was mortally wounded during the conflict.

“Anders, my son,” she says, trying to cool him down with the surrounding snow.

“Mother, did you kill the monster?” Anders says, and dies as she cradles him in her arms.

But then, the twist: the camera spins around Ursa, and the scene fades from Scandinavia to an alien spaceship, where Ursa is in the same position, minus Anders’ body, with some sort of glowing collar on her neck. In the same room is a man kneeling… And it turns out that’s one of two twins from Japan in the 1600s, Kenji and Kyoshi (both voiced by Ozawa). In the mostly dialogue-free section, titled “The Sword,” we see how Kenji loses a fight to his brother and is exiled, returning to try and retake his ancestral home, just as a – you’re not going to believe this – Predator attacks. In the process, the brothers team up and kill the Predator, but Kyoshi is killed in the process.

Kenji ends up on that same alien spaceship, and we get to meet the third member of the “team,” Torres (Gonzalez). In the section titled “The Bullet,” we learn how he was a bit of a screw-up and a good mechanic who dreamed of being a pilot, then watched as his entire squadron was killed by a rogue Predator who looks a lot like Christopher Plummer’s character in Star Trek VI. True to form and the title of the movie, he manages to kill that Predator, but then wakes up in a stasis chamber on a Yautja ship. We loop back to the previous scenes to see that all three of them were seemingly put in cryostasis, and that’s when it becomes abundantly clear that this is all joining together for one story… not an anthology.

Ursa, Torres, and Kenji are all thrown into a gladiatorial arena by an army of Yautja and told they need to fight to the death. If they refuse, their heads get blown up, Suicide Squad-style, hence the glowing collars. If they win? They get the honor of fighting the massive Warlord Predator (Britton Watkins), who may or may not be wearing a cape made of xenomorph tails. And to help them along the path to becoming “the killer of killers,” they each get a “weapon of their tribe.” That means a shield for Ursa, a sword for our ninja, and for Torres… Why lookie there, it’s Raphael Adolini’s pistol!

If you’re not totally familiar, the weapon was first introduced in 1990’s Predator 2, as a gift given to Lieutenant Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) by a group of Predators. It later popped up in 2022’s Prey, which takes place in 1719, and shows Adolini (Bennett Taylor) gifting the pistol to a Comanche warrior named Naru (Amber Midthunder), which she then uses to kill the feral Yautja in that movie. So, how did it get on an alien planet where Torres is flummoxed about how to load a flintlock pistol? We’ll get to that in a second.

As you might expect, after battling each other, the three survivors manage to get their collars off and team up to take down the Warlod Predator. In the process, they take control of the Warlord’s ship, with our friendly ninja Kenji losing his sword arm… And then the Yautja fire a harpoon that holds them back from escaping. Realizing she can save two boys, if not her son, Ursa sacrifices herself to get the harpoon loose, and Kenji and Torres fly off in the distance, brothers in arms.

It’s not over yet, though. They don’t kill Ursa, but instead make her watch as Warlord raises his massive axe. “Let’s go hunting,” says the Warlord, and a massive fleet of Yautja ships takes off after Torres and Kenji, meaning they are very much not out of the woods yet.

Seems like a nice setup for a Killer of Killers sequel, right? But wait, there’s more to it. Way more.

How Predator: Killer Of Killers Might Set up Prey 2

After the tease that Torres and Kenji’s days are about to get exponentially worse, we cut to the main title, and then we cut back to Ursa, now once again in cryogenic freeze. The camera pulls out, and shows two Yautja taking her to storage in a chamber filled with hundreds, if not thousands, of other units, in a scene that both in terms of the framing and music is purposefully reminiscent of the classic “storing of the ark of the covenant” scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Side-note here of potential interest: this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Predators use cryostasis. A similar device was used in the Marvel Comics series Predator: The Last Hunt by Ed Brisson and Francesco Manna, which brought together various people from throughout time, including the brother of Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), on a planet that served as a Yautja hunting preserve.

Back to Killer of Killers, though. They pass by a stasis chamber holding a strange alien that, of note, is not the xenomorph, as well as a chamber holding an unidentified, shadowed man with a close-cropped haircut. But the stinger is left for the third cryo-chamber, which is holding none other than… Naru.

Wait, what? How did Naru get there? And what does this mean for potential sequels?

So, if it’s been a while since you watched Prey, while the main action of the movie ended with Naru victorious and becoming War Chief of her tribe, the end credits showed an animated sequence that recapped the events of the movie and ended ominously with three Predator ships descending over the village.

The assumption was that this was leading into Prey 2… But as it turns out, something very different happened. While there are some gaps to fill in, it seems likely, as a “killer of killers,” Naru was captured by the Yautja, put in cryo-stasis, and that’s how the Predators have possession of Raphael Adolini’s pistol. In Killer of Killers, Torres drops the pistol on the ground of the gladiatorial arena when he’s almost eaten by a giant beast. Meaning the pistol is back with the Yautja by the end of Killer of Killers, not with Torres, so they can give it to Harrigan in Predator 2. Cool? Cool.

Back to it, though, could Naru’s stasis be leading into a Prey 2? Given director Dan Trachtenberg has seemed to want to forge a new path with every movie, probably not a direct Prey sequel. But it also seems likely this tease is more than an Easter egg. Whether Naru shows up in a potential Killer of Killers 2 or somewhere else remains to be seen.

In fact, there’s a pretty tantalizing possibility…

Could Amber Midthunder’s Naru Be In Predator: Badlands?

Later this year, on November 7, 2025, Predator: Badlands will be released in theaters. Based on what we know about the movie so far, it’s supposed to be a standalone film set at least in part on the Predators’ homeworld, starring Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as an outcast Predator named Dek and Elle Fanning as a Weyland-Yutani android named Thia. Badlands is directed by Trachtenberg, who directed Prey and Killer of Killers, and written by Patrick Aison, who also wrote Prey.

We’re connecting a lot of dots here that may or may not connect, but it’s never specified where Torres and company end up in the final part of Killer of Killers. Given the density of Yautja, it sure could be the Predator homeworld, Yautja Prime. And while 20th Century Studios is selling Badlands as a standalone film, they also sold Killer of Killers as an anthology film, which it most decidedly is not. Is a similar twist coming with Badlands? Is it possible that Killer of Killers is, in fact, a direct setup to the plot of the live-action movie? And if so, could Naru be unfrozen to enter the fray, and/or Torres and Kenji pop up in their rogue Yautja spaceship?

That’s a lot to put on a mid-credits stinger, but Trachtenberg’s oeuvre is filled with films that often aren’t what they seem to be (see 10 Cloverfield Lane, Prey, and Killer of Killers for more on that). While there have been no reports of Amber Midthunder on the set of Badlands, there also haven’t been a lot of reports from the set, period.

To play this conservatively, let’s say we take Trachtenberg at his word, and despite both Killer of Killers and Badlands possibly being set in the same location, they are separate movies, and also separate from Prey. Even if Badlands mostly stands alone, there’s still a whole universe to explore out there. And it’s clear that Naru is still part of that universe. Will she eventually become the killer of killers? Or a trophy? We’ll keep hunting for clues until we find out.

When you have a series that's consistently gotten new games for almost 40 years, you have to think about how younger generations will be able to play them. That, and, of course, thinking about your bottom line, has led every publisher to lean more and more into multiplatform releases. On top of PC ports, Square Enix has released a decent amount of remasters and special editions of the Final Fantasy series specifically for Nintendo's handheld.

The Final Fantasy games hitting Switch isn't entirely unprecedented. The connection between Final Fantasy and Nintendo dates back to the series’ infancy, when the first game debuted on Nintendo's Famicom system in 1987. In fact, the first six mainline Final Fantasy games debuted on Nintendo platforms before Square Enix jumped to PlayStation as the series’ primary platform with Final Fantasy 7.

With Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth's PC launch and a solid Magic: The Gathering expansion bringing Final Fantasy back into the spotlight in 2025, plenty of people are hoping to dive into the series for the first time. Below, we’ve compiled a complete list of Final Fantasy games available on Switch and a look at what's coming to the Switch 2.

How Many Final Fantasy Games Are Available on Switch?

There are 20 Final Fantasy games you can play on the Switch — 12 mainline games, one prequel, and seven spinoffs. These games have been split into two sections below: mainline games (ordered by original release date) and other games (ordered by Switch release date).

Every Mainline Final Fantasy Game on Switch

Final Fantasy 1–6 Pixel Remaster

The first six Final Fantasy games are all available on Switch as part of Square Enix’s Pixel Remaster collection. Each game has been overhauled with new graphics, rearranged soundtracks, updated UIs, and new galleries for players to explore the creatures, illustrations, and music from all six games. If you're interested in diving into the original Final Fantasy experience, this is the best way to do it.

The Pixel Remasters are available individually ($12–18 USD/each) or as part of the six-game Final Fantasy I–VI bundle ($75 USD). If you're looking at the games individually, I'd recommend FF6, as it has one of the more immersive storylines.

Final Fantasy 7

One of the series’ most beloved games, Final Fantasy VII, is also available on Switch. This is not a remastered version of the game but rather a port of the 1997 original with three extra features: a 3x speed mode, the ability to turn battle encounters off, and a battle enhancement mode to make encounters easier. While the newer remasters, Remake and Rebirth, introduce modern action RPG mechanics to Cloud Strife's battle against Sephiroth, the Switch edition of FFVII is one of the best opportunities to experience what made the original PlayStation game so impactful.

Final Fantasy 8 Remastered

The series’ next entry is also available on Switch as Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. This updated version was released in 2019, 20 years after FF8 originally debuted on PlayStation. Additions to the remastered version include a 3x speed mode, the ability to turn off random encounters, and battle assist options to lessen the difficulty of combat.

Final Fantasy 9

Final Fantasy IX on Switch, like FFVII before it, is a port of the original RPG, which, despite not being quite as "famous" as Final Fantasy VII, is considered to have one of the best storylines in the series. The Switch version includes a few extras compared to the 2000 original, including high-speed and no-encounter modes, an autosave feature, and HD cutscenes and character models.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is a bundle of Final Fantasy X and its sequel X-2 (the series’ first-ever direct sequel). The two games feature over 100 hours of RPG content, according to IGN sister site How Long to Beat, and include upgraded graphics and reworked audio (with the ability to switch back and forth between the new and original sounds).

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Skipping the now-shuttered MMORPG Final Fantasy XI, the series’ next mainline game available on Switch is Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age. The Zodiac Age, a remaster of the 2006 original, features HD graphics and a re-recorded soundtrack, as well as the Zodiac Job System, an increased battle tempo, an optional high-speed mode, and autosave functionality.

Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition HD

Final Fantasy XIII and XIV: Online are not available on Switch, which brings us to Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD. It’s the latest mainline game available on the platform, as FFXVI is still only available on PS5 and PC.

Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition HD is an abridged version of the original game with cartoonish character models, simplified combat, a reduced skill tree, and fewer side quests. Pocket Edition HD does, however, retain the full FFXV story, boys on the road and all.

Other Final Fantasy Games on Switch

World of Final Fantasy Maxima (2018)

World of Final Fantasy Maxima, co-developed by Square Enix and prolific Japanese developer Tose, came to Switch with new content and the subtitle ‘Maxima’ two years after it was first released on PS4 and Vita. It’s an accessible RPG aimed at younger audiences that combines the series' Active Time Battle system with the ability to capture Mirages (i.e., creatures) to use in battle.

Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy! (2019)

Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy! is a remastered version of the 2007 Wii game Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon. This Final Fantasy spinoff is a turn-based RPG with randomly generated dungeons and a buddy system that allows players to bring other creatures or characters along for the dungeon-crawling chaos.

Collection of Mana (2019)

This collection of three Mana games is on this list due to its inclusion of the 1991 Game Boy game Final Fantasy Adventure. Despite beginning as a Final Fantasy spinoff, the Mana series dropped those ties with the release of its second game, Secret of Mana, and has since remained an independent franchise.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition (2020)

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is an enhanced version of the 2004 RPG/dungeon crawler originally released for GameCube. Crystal Chronicles for Switch features a cute aesthetic, online co-op, and the addition of English voiceover for the first time. It’s a graphical improvement upon the original that also added new areas, monsters, weapons, and a higher-difficulty option.

Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend (2020)

Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend compiles three Game Boy games: Final Fantasy Legend I–III. We’ve included these games in service to creating a comprehensive list, though these are only Final Fantasy games in name; the SaGa games belong to an independent franchise of RPGs inspired by but not necessarily connected to Final Fantasy. The first three SaGa games were given the Final Fantasy name to capitalize on the brand recognition with western audiences.

The collection adds a high-speed mode and Switch-specific enhancements like adjustable screen magnification and the ability to play with your Switch oriented vertically (when in handheld mode, with Joy-Cons detached).

Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion (2022)

A prequel to Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion is a remastered version of the 2007 PSP RPG. The game stars a young warrior named Zack Fair, whose connection to Cloud and FFVII is revealed throughout the story. Reunion features remastered graphics, new character and background models, fully voiced dialogue, a newly arranged soundtrack, and a refined battle system.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line (2023)

A rhythm game that celebrates the music of Final Fantasy, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line launched with 385 tracks from across the Final Fantasy series, though that has since grown to include music from other Square franchises for a total of 505 tracks. The Final Fantasy music pulls from 46 games, according to Squre, including FFI–XV. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line features over 100 characters and online multiplayer support for up to 8 players.

Chocobo GP (2023)

Chocobo GP is a Final Fantasy-themed kart racer developed by Arika (Tetris 99). While there are better kart racers available on Switch, Chocobo GP is a fun respite from the more involved RPGs that make up the majority of the Final Fantasy franchise. Like other kart racers, it features time challenges, tournament-style races, and options for multiplayer racing.

Upcoming Final Fantasy Games on Nintendo Switch

The most recent mainline Final Fantasy release is Final Fantasy XVI, which has yet to see any variant or equivalent release on Switch. We probably won't see a new mainline FF game on PlayStation or Switch anytime soon, as Square Enix's current focus is its three-part remake of Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy VII Remake was released on PS4 in 2020, followed by Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5 in 2024, and both have since made their way to PC.

Square Enix recently confirmed that all of the Final Fantasy VII remakes will be making their way to the Nintendo Switch 2. While the new Nintendo console has now officially hit the market, there's no official word on when to expect Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the platform.

Otherwise, Nintendo recently announced that Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will be coming to PS5 and Switch with enhanced graphics, voiced dialogue, and various quality of life improvements over the original PS1 game. The tactical RPG is set to release on September 30.

In case you’ve been living under the collapsed Sector 7 plate (too soon?), you’re probably aware that Magic: The Gathering’s latest Universes Beyond is almost here, putting the peanut butter of Final Fantasy into the jelly (or jam for the Brits) of the long-running card game.

Anticipation is high, but as expected, prices are getting a little wild ahead of the prerelease weekend and then full launch next week (June 13).

Remember Tidus, Yuna’s Guardian. Well, the MSRP of the precon he heads up is $69.99 for the standard version, so it’s naturally going for much, much more than that, currently fetching north of $110.

Everything else Final Fantasy is pretty hot right now, so if you manage to find anything in stock, it might be worse picking up ASAP to avoid disapointment.

Star Wars legend Mark Hamill suffered a wardrobe malfunction at the 2025 BAFTAs this year — and the actor has revealed that none other than fellow movie legend Demi Moore gave him a thumbs up from the audience as the incident occurred.

Speaking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hamill described the trouser drop as "the ultimate actor's nightmare."

He explained that his pants, which started to slip down while he was at the podium giving Conclave the award for Best Film, weren’t much of an issue before the ceremony.

"I tried those pants on twice. Once at the house in California, and [my stylist] fitted them and he said, 'How are they?' And I said, 'Fine. A little snug, but they will do. You could let them out a skosh,” he explained while appearing to promote Mike Flanagan’s new film The Life of Chuck.

But things got a little hairy after that. "Cut to us in London, with the car outside, 20 minutes before we are supposed to leave. I put the pants on,” Hamill continued. “He let them out four or five inches! Luckily, our dresser Mary had a safety pin and she pinned them in the back, and so I thought I was good to go."

As actors tend to know, things that can go wrong usually will. "They introduced me, and as I start walking to the podium, I feel the pin pop," he told Colbert. "And every step I took, they slipped lower and lower and lower. I'm not kidding you, they were at my knees by the time I got to the podium!"

At that point, Hamill looked out into the crowd for his wife, but his eyes “landed” on Moore. Hamill mouthed: "Did you see my pants fall down?" Moore's reaction? An encouraging thumbs up and a big smile.

Hamill, like the Jedi of old, kept calm and carried on. "I just willed myself, like hypnosis. I was trying to beam into the audience, 'You did not see my pants fall down. It's all an illusion,'" Hamill said on the late night show. "I stuck to the teleprompter and didn't acknowledge it. I didn't want to make a joke or bring any attention to it."

Hamill said the director of BAFTAs later told him that the podium blocked the audience's view from the front, but those sat to the sides could see his pants around his knees. In a hilarious turn of events, Hamill also made sure the audience knew he wouldn’t be having a repeat of the BAFTA night at Colbert’s. “Believe me, my pants are very secure tonight,” he said.

If you were wondering whether Mark Hamill might play Luke Skywalker once again as a Force ghost, think again. The legendary actor has ruled out a return to the world famous sci-fi franchise, saying it’s now time for Star Wars to move past legacy characters and focus on the future.

Summer vacation is upon us, and there’s one brotherly duo who always knows how to take advantage of the break. Phineas & Ferb has returned for what is officially being deemed Season 5 in a continuation rather than a reboot of the Disney Channel cartoon. With the original creators on board and most of the original voice cast returning to reprise their roles, we can hope the new season captures some of the heart (and musicality) of the original.

Thankfully, you won’t have to wait too long to find out. The first 10 episodes of the new season of Phineas & Ferb are now streaming on Disney+, with 10 more episodes to come at a later (currently unannounced) date. The new season is also airing live on Disney Channel.

10 Years Later, Phineas & Ferb Returns for Season 5

The Star Wars: Starfighter cast is beginning to take shape, with Mia Goth reportedly set to join Ryan Gosling in the upcoming sci-fi film.

The Hollywood Reporter said Goth, best known for playing Maxine Minx and Pearl in the X horror film series, will play a villain in Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie. Production kicks off in England this fall, with a release date set for May 28, 2027.

THR said Gosling plays a character who “must protect his young nephew against evil pursuers.” One of those pursuers is Goth’s character. Lucasfilm declined to comment.

As for where Starfighter takes place in the Star Wars timeline, it’s set five years after The Rise of Skywalker, the third installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. But it is considered standalone, Levy has insisted. “This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel," he said at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in April. "It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet.”

Starfighter is shaping up to be the next Star Wars film released after 2026’s The Mandalorian and Grogu. It does of course share its name with a short-lived series of video games from the PS2 / Xbox era. The original Star Wars: Starfighter released in 2001, followed by the sequel Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter in 2002. But we don’t expect it to borrow anything from the games in terms of plot.

While much of the chatter is still focused on the Nintendo Switch 2, which came out yesterday, there are plenty of other things to be excited about, like great deals on a wide range of products. If you’re taking a trip this summer, a travel adapter, power bank, and earplugs are essentials, and I’ve found solid savings on all three. With Father’s Day just around the corner, discounted robot lawn mowers, cornhole sets, and gaming headsets make for excellent gifts. Plus, if you’re looking to splurge, an RTX 5090 gaming laptop is available for a surprisingly low price.

TL;DR: Today's Best Deals

Of course, I haven’t forgotten to include a few Switch 2 accessory deals for those who managed to lock down the new console. Batman: Arkham Shadow Is Great

In case you're wondering whether a new Batman: Arkham game works in VR, the answer is "yes." While it was develped by Camouflaj rather than series creator Rocksteady, it offers almost all of what fans of the core series appreciate about it.

Legendary actor Denzel Washington will indeed star in Marvel's upcoming Black Panther 3, director Ryan Coogler has said.

The news confirms what Washington himself hinted at last year — that Coogler was writing a part intended for the Training Day and Gladiator 2 actor within the upcoming Black Panther threequel, which currently does not have an official release date.

Washington's potential (now confirmed) involvement in Black Panther 3 previously triggered an early confirmation from Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige that the movie was indeed happening. While Black Panther 3 is yet to appear on any official Disney or Marvel production schedule, Feige acknowledged in December 2024 that it was now being planned.

Speaking on the 7pm in Brooklyn podcast (via E! Online) this week, Coogler said "there's no fiction out there about that" when asked to respond to Washington suggesting he would have a Black Panther 3 role.

While playing a game of true or false — titled "F**k With It or F**k Outta Here" — Coogler said Washington's comments were "a big F**k With It." (This is the option that means they are true.)

"Denzel is family at this point," Coogler continued. "I've been trying to work with him since day one. I think he's the greatest living actor. In terms of what he means to our culture? Forget about it, man."

A third entry in the hit MCU Black Panther series was always assured after the first entry hit $1.35 billion and its follow-up Wakanda Forever, which was retooled after the tragic death of original Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, earned another $859 million.

Our most recent sighting of Silent Hill f came during Sony's State of Play June 2025 showcase, and with it came our first look at Hinako in action. Literally.

For some, the emphasis on combat encounters may be surprising, as Silent Hill is a series that has tended to focus on environmental storytelling and psychological horror over combat. However, this latest trailer — the first we've seen to offer a meaningful glimpse at gameplay and combat — coupled with a new interview with producer Motoi Okamoto, suggest that our protagonist may have to endure a more physical experience.

"The game features unique combat," Okamoto said in a post on PlayStation Blog. "The encounters are as challenging as the obstacles that Hinako must overcome in life. The combat will have a heavier focus on melee and be more action-oriented compared to last year’s Silent Hill 2."

That last sentence surprises me, as Silent Hill 2 Remake itself involved significantly more combat that the original game — or, indeed, any other game in the series bar perhaps Silent Hill Homecoming.

Okamoto said that tougher combat, with the visuals and music's "juxtaposition between beauty and terror," along with the "terrible beauty of the game’s monster design," makes for a terrifying adventure. Even the puzzles are apparently "grounded in psychological anguish and suffering." Yikes.

Silent Hill f is not a sequel to any of the existing Silent Hill games. Instead it will offer a standalone story "independent from the series." That came from publisher Konami itself, which finally confirmed on X/Twitter that the latest instalment of the horror series — which is usually, if not always, based in a sleepy resort town on east-coast America — will be "a completely new title" that "people who have never played the Silent Hill series can enjoy."

Silent Hill f takes us to 1960s Japan, where we'll follow Hinako Shimizu, a teenager struggling under the pressure of expectations from her friends, family, and society. The story was written by Ryukishi07, creator of the When They Cry visual novel series. As displayed at the beginning of the Japanese-language reveal trailer back in March, it is the first Silent Hill game to get an 18+ rating certification in Japan.

If what looks like a leaked trailer is anything to go by, Lies of P's upcoming DLC, Overture, could shadow-drop very soon.

The trailer — which is already making the rounds on social media — concludes with the statement: "Available now."

This trailer has leaked just hours ahead of the Summer Game Fest showcase and two days before Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase, so perhaps we'll get an official announcement and release at one of the presentations. Summer Game Fest kicks off at 2pm PT / 5pm ET today, June 6, while Xbox Games Showcase starts at 10am PT / 1pm ET on June 8.

Lies of P is a unique, darker twist on the classic story of Pinocchio, offering a challenging action game with a unique "lie" system where what you do and say dynamically affects gameplay. The upcoming new DLC — which features new locations, new enemies and bosses, new characters, and new weapons — also introduces Death March, a new mode that enables you to face off against the game's myriad of bosses all over again. In all, the DLC will take experienced players roughly 15-20 hours to complete, and will unlock once they’ve passed a “certain” chapter of the game. Neowiz has also already announced a full-blown sequel to Lies of P.

Interestingly, Overture will introduce difficulty options for the very first time. As a "Soulslike" game, Lies of P can be punishingly difficult, especially for inexperienced players perhaps attracted by Lies of P's dark story and setting. Director Jiwon Choi had said the team didn't think Soulslike games should have difficulty options and it shipped without any.

Neowiz changed its mind, however, following feedback from players, saying: “We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game. We have a lot of feedback from customers, and from our developers. So by making development adjustments and introducing these difficulty options, we can offer the experience to different types of players. This broadens the base.”

We had a good time with Lies of P, awarding it 8/10. We said: "Lies of P might not branch out particularly far from its soulslike inspiration, but it plays the part extremely well."

Where to Stream the John Wick Movies Online

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has been through a lot to bring audiences one of the best dystopian television dramas ever — and that includes losing teeth. Yep, you read that right. Hwang recently revealed that he has lost even more of his pearly whites since making Season 3.

“I thought it was going to be okay, but this time I had to pull out two more teeth as well,” the creator recently told Entertainment Weekly. “I had to pull out about eight teeth in Season 1, and now I have two more out, and I haven’t put them back in yet. So I’m waiting for them.”

Originally, reports had claimed that Hwang lost six teeth early on in the series, but in November 2024 he revealed it was actually closer to eight or nine teeth. That said, the last season of the series — which Hwang has confirmed as the final season — proved to be a little less stressful. However, it still resulted in more loss for the creator.

“I do already have the universe and the space that I have envisioned come to life, so in a sense, Season 2 and Season 3 was easier compared to Season 1,” he told EW. “But the problem is that for Season 2 and Season 3, we had to shoot and write in one go. It was as if we were making one season, and we tried as best as we could to bring in Season 3 as fast as possible. So the total amount was much larger, and we had to shoot for around one year, so it was very physically demanding.”

Dune: Awakening was down for a couple of hours earlier today as Funcom applied a hotfix to help improve server stability and address a number of issues that have popped up since the game went live for "head start" players yesterday, June 5.

Top of the list was "improved server stability" — although there was no specifics — and a pop-up has been added so that when you click on the "Private" tab in the server browser, you'll be informed that these servers are managed externally. (For more about what you do and don't get when you rent a private server, we've got you covered).

Dune: Awakening June 6 Hotfix 11.0.5 Patch Notes

• Fixed an issue where certain player base placeables’ menu would fail to load if the player switched between placeables’ tabs in quick succession, using the Q and E keys.
• Fixed an issue where players could sometimes get a suggested server that was not the closest in the region.
• Fixed an issue causing players to be stuck in the Imperial Testing Station #002 boss room by removing the pentashield doors.
• Fixed an issue where NPCs in the Arrakeen social hub could sometimes get stuck in place.

Funcom warned that while some of the changes will take effect the moment they are deployed, others may require a downtime, so keep an eye out for in-game service messages.

We haven't yet had chance to review Dune: Awakening, but we did take an extended peek when the beta was live. "As a longtime fan of Dune, it also just feels so good to explore and learn more about a world that I’m quite fond of, and Funcom has clearly put a ton of effort into worldbuilding and lore, even despite taking quite a bit of creative liberty by placing Awakening within a parallel reality and canon than the books/movies," we wrote in IGN's Dune: Awakening closed beta impressions preview.

"There are little details that have a massive impact on gameplay. I won’t go into spoilers, but this kind of attention to detail touches just about every aspect of the world, including the factions and characters you meet along the way, which should be a treat for any fan of the setting."

T-Pain is making his grand debut in Fortnite today, June 6, and IGN can exclusively reveal the first look at his in-game character and details on his custom world that is "redefining Zone Wars gameplay" and giving players the ability to shrink down and battle across T-Pain's gaming setup, use food-powered abilities, and more.

T-Pain is making his arrival in Fortnite debut alongside Jack in the Box's Jack Box, and you can check out that first look of the pair in the slideshow below.

Among other exciting surprises, players will be able to look forward to the following in 'Jack Zone Wars';

• Micro Arena Combat: Players shrink down and battle across T-Pain's oversized gaming setup, using monitors, energy drinks, and controllers as cover

“Jack in the Box was a great collab because it felt real," T-Pain said of this partnership. "At this point in my career, I’m only teaming up with brands that are genuinely authentic to me. T-Pain also loves that his setup has been recreated in-game with a twist, saying, "I got Jack in the Box food all over my studio desk - it's crazy!"

Voice actor Samantha Kelly discovered her 18-year tenure as Super Mario characters Princess Peach and Toad was over on Nintendo Switch 2 launch day — when Mario Kart World released without her in it.

Kelly might not be a household name, but she has featured as Peach and Toad in more than 70 games for Nintendo DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U and Switch since Mario Strikers Charged released in 2007.

From Super Mario Bros. to Luigi's Mansion, Mario Kart to Super Smash Bros, Kelly has provided the voice for two of the Mushroom Kingdom's biggest roles — including when her characters took centre stage, such as in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, or last year's Princess Peach: Showtime!

Kelly's vocal talents have extended beyond Nintendo's own titles, to appearances by Peach and Toad in games made for Nintendo systems by other companies, such as Ubisoft's Mario + Rabbids series and Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympics series.

And even beyond the world of video games, Taylor has voiced the characters for the interactive Lego Super Mario toys, within Nintendo's Super Nintendo World theme parks, and (as other Toad characters) in Nintendo's billion dollar grossing Super Mario Bros. Movie.

But you won't find Kelly in Mario Kart World's credits. And after fans spotted her name was not present, the actor has now confirmed her time as Peach and Toad is over.

"Thank you for so many years of friendship and joy," Taylor wrote in a message to fans on Instagram. "I'm sad that it's over, I truly would have wanted to voice Peach and Toad forever. Nintendo let me know yesterday that they decided to recast these roles.

"I'm grateful that I got to do these voices for so many years. Peach and Toad are such strong and beautiful characters that I pray they live forever no matter who voices them. So much love <3 #princesspeach #toad"

Nintendo has become increasingly strict when it comes to sharing information found in the credits of its video games ahead of time — to the extent that it frequently refuses to acknowledge the developer of its games prior to their release. (This is the situation currently with the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza, demos of which have already been publicly played at Switch 2 hands-on events.)

Kelly's situation here feels like a bizarre extension of this, where the information that she was not in the credits — because she had been replaced — was held back even from her until Mario Kart World was launched.

Currently, it's unclear who does voice Peach and Toad in Mario Kart World, and presumably in other Mario games going forward.

Eagle-eyed Nintendo fans have spotted another veteran voice actor also missing from the Mario Kart World credits: Takashi Nagasako, who has voiced Donkey Kong for 21 years, since 2004's Mario Power Tennis. In this case, fans have noted that Koji Takeda, who voiced DK in the Japanese version of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, is listed — suggesting that in this case, Nintendo has aligned the video game character's grunts with the Japanese voice of his big-screen counterpart.

IGN has contacted Nintendo for comment.

Of course, this isn't the first time recently that Nintendo has replaced one of its veteran voice actors. Charles Martinet, the colourful actor who voiced Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi, was retired after almost 30 years in 2022. At the time, Nintendo said Martinet would continue to work with Nintendo as "Mario Ambassador," though Martinet himself later suggested he wasn't really sure what that meant.

While The Wheel of Time seems dead after Amazon canceled the show following the conclusion of Season 3, its showrunner has pointed to The Expanse in expressing hope it could be saved.

The Wheel of Time is an adaptation of the much-loved fantasy book series by Robert Jordan, with a cast led by Rosamund Pike. After a shaky first two seasons that had fans of the books in uproar over controversial changes from the source material, Season 3 appeared to win over the fanbase and, it was felt, set up the show for even better things to come.

But last month it emerged that Prime Video had decided against renewing The Wheel of Time for Season 4 after what Deadline reported were "lengthy deliberations." Apparently executives liked the show, but couldn’t make it work financially.

Brandon Sanderson, who finished Jordan's The Wheel of Time book series, has gone on the record to offer his thoughts on the series’ cancelation, saying: “I do think it's a shame, as while I had my problems with the show, it had a fanbase who deserved better than a cancelation after the best season. I won't miss being largely ignored; they wanted my name on it for legitimacy, but not to involve me in any meaningful way.”

Now showrunner Rafe Judkins has offered his thoughts in his first comments since the news broke. In a statement published on social media, Judkins said he couldn’t offer “something clear and tidy” to explain the cancelation, but insisted The Wheel of Time was watched “by huge numbers of people all over the world.” He pointed to viewership data to back up his claim, saying The Wheel of Time appeared in the Nielsen Top 10 chart for nearly 20 weeks, “a feat very few shows have been able to match in the last decade.”

Judkins went on to say that he and the team behind the show set out to adapt the entire The Wheel of Time story from the books, and not being able to finish the job “feels like a devastating blow for all of us.”

He then lamented what he called the “trend in TV toward fewer seasons with less episodes and finding quicker ways to acquire additional streaming subscribers,” saying this approach “goes against the fundamental strength of television — long-form storytelling.”

At the time of this article's publication, over 130,000 fans have signed an online petition to “Save The Wheel of Time.” “Finish the story,” the organizers of the petition say on their website. “It deserves to be told in full!” But it feels likely those pleas will fall on deaf ears. While some fans hope Apple may pick up The Wheel of Time for Apple TV+, given the slate of expensive sci-fi and fantasy shows it already has on its books, that is perhaps wishful thinking.

Still, Judkins expressed a degree of hope that someone, somewhere will pick up The Wheel of Time. He pointed to sci-fi show The Expanse, which was canceled by SYFY before Amazon saved it and finished the story.

“So who knows?” Judkins concluded. “Perhaps the Wheel of Time show will do what the books have always managed to do since day one — defy the traditional definitions of ‘beginnings’ and ‘ends.’ I certainly hope it does — because this book series and these fans deserve to see the story finished.”

The comments come amid a new report that claims The Wheel of Time isn’t being shopped around to other streamers. TVLine said its “well-placed sources” confirmed the news that is sure to disappoint fans who’d hoped for Season 4 at least.

I’ve been asked the same question many times the last week — why was The Wheel of Time canceled? And the truth is, I don’t know. I wish I could say something clear and tidy that explains to all those who love it why it’s coming to an end, but sadly, I can’t.

What I can say is that the actors and crew on our show are the most talented and wonderful group of people I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. And we’ve all been incredibly lucky to make something that not only was beloved by fans (and even critics! ha!) but was also watched by huge numbers of people all over the world (appearing in the Nielsen Top 10 for nearly 20 weeks, a feat very few shows have been able to match in the last decade.

One of my core goals in making this show, even from the earliest crafting of the pitch, has been to tell the whole story. Because the Wheel of Time books do what television has always done best — get better as they go. And as our actors and team came on board, they too could see the potential if we were allowed to finish this incredible story. We made many sacrifices, both personal and creative, along the way to get to that ending, so coming up short feels like a devastating blow for all of us.

Much has been written about this larger trend in TV toward fewer seasons with less episodes and finding quicker ways to acquire additional streaming subscribers. But I genuinely believe that this goes against the fundamental strength of television — long-form storytelling. It is an art form, much like epic fantasy, which at its very best, gives people a place to go and spend time with the characters that they love year after year after year. And I believe there are executives, studios, and networks who know that. I believe that we will find our way through this current iteration of the industry and back to what we do best — bringing great characters into people’s living rooms and lives every week.

Will the Wheel of Time get to do that with another network and finish the story? Sadly, it’s not something that happens often. But it does happen. In fact, one of the reasons we first chose Amazon as a home for the show was because they were in the midst of picking up The Expanse after SYFY cancelled it.

So who knows? Perhaps the Wheel of Time show will do what the books have always managed to do since day one — defy the traditional definitions of “beginnings” and “ends.” I certainly hope it does — because this book series and these fans deserve to see the story finished.

Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher – the first documentary film from Legendary’s Unscripted division – tells the story of Willis Gibson, aka Blue Scuti, who, on December 21, 2023, was the first person in history to beat Tetris, a feat long thought impossible. And he did it at just age 13.

The success thrust Gibson into the spotlight overnight. But it was the timing of his achievement that makes his story that much more poignant and powerful as it came just days after the death of his dad, Adam. (Willis’ mom, Karin Gibson, also appears in the documentary.)

Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher serves then not only as a chronicle of one gamer’s biggest win but also as, the film’s official synopsis puts it, “a coming-of-age story about overcoming grief, the power of community, and the rise of an unexpected internet legend.”

The feature-length documentary, written and directed by Chris Moukarbel, will have its world premiere June 11th at the Tribeca Film Festival. IGN has the exclusive first look at the film’s trailer, which can be viewed via the player above or the embed below.

Gibson, now 15, is as surprised as you might think to be the subject of a film and while he’s still only in high school. “It's not something I thought would ever happen. I mean, it's one of those things that are so out there,” Gibson told IGN this week. “Never once in my life did it occur as a possibility because it's just something that never happens.”

“A lot of my friends were really surprised. There was a moment last year for three weeks or two weeks where it was really popular in my school, but then after that it wasn't really much,” said Gibson. “A lot of other people in the Tetris community think that it's really cool, getting more eyes on the community. Just the overall response has been extremely positive.”

Gibson recalled the moment when he knew he’d beaten the game. “I only knew of one spot where the game could crash and when I missed it, I didn't know that when or where it was going to crash. So the fact that I did it right before the run ended, I think that multiplied my expression, like how big it was,” he said. “I wasn't expecting it to happen. I just knew it could. So when it did, I just got extremely happy and was shocked that I got it.”

He hopes that viewers of Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher experience the joy of playing the game and the warmth of the Tetris community.

Maya Rogers, President and CEO of The Tetris Company, echoed that sentiment in a statement provided to IGN: “Willis’ incredible achievement in reaching the Tetris kill screen sparked an unprecedented wave of global interest. It was more than just a milestone — it was a powerful reminder of what Tetris represents: joy, resilience, and the magic of human connection. From the early friendship between creator Alexey Pajitnov and Tetris Company founder Henk Rogers to today’s passionate players, Tetris has always been about community. This was not only a win for Willis, but a proud moment for the entire Tetris family.”

Rogers and her dad Henk – himself the subject of the 2023 Tetris movie starring Taron Egerton – will both be at the Tribeca Film Festival in support of the documentary.

Willis Gibson will also be at Tribeca for next week’s premiere – his first time visiting New York City – but before that he will be competing in this weekend’s Classic Tetris World Championship in Pasadena, California.

Here’s the thing about Tom Cruise: we may never have another truly fearless actor like him again. The man hung from a biplane for real, after all, in his latest film Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Oh, and not to make things more complicated, his parachute catches on fire once he drops from the plane and he has to quickly cut himself free and deploy a second chute. Well, he could’ve done the plane stunt, we well know, but surely he didn’t also set himself ablaze, right?

Wrong. Cruise did jump from a helicopter at 7,500 feet in Drakensberg, South Africa with a fuel-soaked main parachute that was rigged to be set on fire, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a death-defying stunt he performed a terrifying 16 times. Sheesh.

“What I’m going to do is I’m going to be deploying,” Cruise explained to crew members in a recent video that highlights the work that went into making the stunt work behind the scenes. “[And] if this is twisted while it’s burning, I’m going to be spinning and burning. I have to kick out of the twist and then ignite. I got 10 seconds.”

As a result, Guinness World Records has declared that Cruise set a record for “the most burning parachute jumps by an individual."

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning joined Sinners in passing the $350 million mark over the weekend. Cruise’s eighth Mission: Impossible film is now up to $353.818 million globally, with positive word of mouth helping fuel a 33% drop from opening weekend. Best Xbox Game Pass Deals

Between Cuckoo, Abigail, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, 2024 was a big year for Dan Stevens doing silly voices. So it’s disappointing to see (or rather, hear) that the English actor isn’t doing one of his signature accents in The Ritual – until you remember that, for him, the dialect of the Iowan setting is exotic. Still, Stevens tamps down his natural hamminess for this serious-minded exorcism movie, which despite its supernatural subject matter, should be classified as a horror-drama rather than as a straight-up horror picture.

The Ritual presents itself as a historical document, opening with onscreen text touting its real-life inspiration, the alleged demonic possession of Emma Schmidt (a.k.a. Anna Ecklund), as the “most thoroughly documented case of demonic possession in American history.” That’s not to say that co-writer and director David Midell lacks showmanship: The intro quickly cuts to Stevens’ character, Father Joseph Steiger, fleeing the scene during an especially dramatic part of Anna’s exorcism. Very expected jump scares aside, the plot unfolds in the matter-of-fact style of an official report, with sober performances, slightly formal dialogue, and a modest, well-scrubbed approximation of an early-20th-century Franciscan convent.

Middell leaves room for doubt whether Emma (played here by Abigail Cowen) is actually suffering from possession or mental illness. There’s potential here to turn Emma’s story into a critique of the Catholic Church, or to question the role faith itself played in her months-long ordeal. But the bishop (Patrick Fabian) who comes to visit Steiger at the beginning of the film has done his due diligence. The Capuchin monk charged with actually performing the ceremony, Theophilus Riesinger (Al Pacino), approaches his work with compassion. Everyone has good intentions, shifting blame from the church and onto more nebulous – and therefore blameless – forces.

One of these is the Devil and his minions — although it’s more agnostic than most, The Ritual is ultimately respectful of Catholic dogma. (For a more radical recent take on the theme, see 2023’s Godless: The Eastfield Exorcism.) It’s difficult to say whether realistic scenes of Emma seizing and foaming at the mouth are more disturbing if they’re motivated by earnest, but incorrect belief or by actual demonic forces; the movie trades on this discomfort, but ultimately loses impact by refusing to choose a side.

One aspect that brings The Ritual out of the 1920s and into the 2020s is its focus on the women who live at the convent, a feminist angle that feels organic and unforced. Emma herself is a tortured, victimized blank, but Sister Rose (Ashley Greene), who assists in the exorcisms, and the convent’s Mother Superior (Patricia Heaton) experience the same doubts and dangers as their male counterparts – more, in Sister Rose’s case, after she’s violently attacked during one of the rituals. Greene and Heaton give surprisingly good performances, and their roles are an interesting departure from the machismo of the subgenre’s hero priests.

Pacino is a minor character by comparison, and relatively subdued – although he and his brother in overacting Stevens do get to climb the walls a little in the more intense exorcism scenes. (Metaphorically, of course. The actual wall-climbing is saved for the possessed girl.) Riesinger and Steiger’s dynamic is similar to that of Fathers Merrin and Karras in The Exorcist, and that’s not a coincidence: The Ecklund case was one of several that formed the basis for William Peter Blatty’s bestselling novel and its William Friedkin-directed film adaptation. But this is a liability as much as an asset. The parts of the story that made it into The Exorcist have become tropes through repetition, which lends a certain mustiness to The Ritual’s possession scenes.

Steiger’s torment – in which the demon mocks him by telling him that his brother, who died by suicide, is burning in hell – also feels like a rehash. His role in the exorcism is to observe and document, and his role in the story is to be troubled enough by Emma’s treatment to debate it right up until the harrowing finale. That’s where The Ritual’s confinement to a handful of neat, claustrophobic rooms finally pays off: Using tight framing and shaky handheld camerawork, Midell ratchets the mood to a state of frenzied panic.

Unfortunately, this follows 90 less effective minutes of that very same style of framing and camerawork, which – especially in the dialogue scenes – comes off more like The Office than The Exorcist. Pushing in and out on a character’s face as they talk can’t help but evoke a pithy Jim Halpert one-liner at this point, and it undermines the gravity of The Ritual every time it happens. The shaky cam also makes it difficult to follow what’s going on in the exorcism scenes, which discourages engagement from the audience as much as it encourages terror.

The combination of self-serious storytelling and deeply unserious filmmaking choices proves fatal, as the jumble of influences and intentions fails to produce either a clear artistic thesis or significant entertainment value. With these obstacles, even the presence of major stars like Pacino and Stevens can’t prevent The Ritual from being a promising concept compromised by flawed directorial decisions. It’s a tragic tale of human fallibility – on multiple levels.

Did you know that a new SpongeBob SquarePants game was on the way called SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide? Beyond a very gentle tease late last year neither did we, but the unannounced game has popped up on a couple of rating boards, suggesting we'll get an official reveal soon.

As spotted by Gematsu, Titans of the Tide has been rated in both South Korea and Germany, with the former rating it as suitable for those aged 12 and over, and Germany classifying it as suitable for children aged six and up. In South Korea, the 12+ rating was given due to "minor violence" and "explosions and minor bodily harm." According to USK, the German classification body, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S; interestingly, there's no mention here of Nintendo Switch 2.

As we hunker down ready for a weekend of reveals and announcements, it's possible this news has leaked a little prematurely than THQ Nordic's preferred schedule, and we'll hopefully find out more over the next few days. Watch this space…

Persona 4 Remake — one of the worst-kept secrets in video games — is reportedly set for an official reveal during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase.

Both Windows Central and MP1st reported that the so-far unannounced game will finally get confirmed at the Xbox showcase this Sunday, June 8.

While Atlus’ Persona 4 Remake will be announced during the Xbox Games Showcase, it’s set for launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version remains up in the air.

Persona 4 Remake has endured a number of remarkable leaks from voice actors who have said they are not in the game. Last month, three of the original voice actors said they weren’t coming back for Persona 4 Remake — despite Persona 4 Remake not being announced yet.

That includes Yosuke Hanamura voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, who took to BlueSky to say he would not be reprising his role for "the Persona 4 remake." You know, the one that no one's officially announced yet.

"And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake," said Lowenthal in a since-deleted post. "I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back."

Two more actors from the original game subsequently spoke up, saying they wouldn't reprise their roles. Erin Fitzgerald, the English voice of Chie Satonaka, said she hadn't been asked to come back. And then Amanda Winn Lee chimed in to say she wasn't coming back as Yukiko Amagi.

There have been rumors to this tune bubbling up over the last year, with a recent domain registration fueling hope that its announcement might be coming soon.

Xbox Games Showcase 2025 will be livestreamed on Sunday, June 8, starting at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK time.

Xbox Games Showcase 2025 will offer a look at upcoming titles from across Microsoft’s first-party studios, Microsoft said, “in addition to incredible new titles from our third-party partners across the globe.”

It seems likely Persona 4 Remake is among them.

The Nintendo Switch 2, like its predecessors, is a bit of an oddball as far as mainline consoles are concerned. It is, by itself, perfectly functional for gaming, but it does get a little boost if you pair it with a few Switch 2-specific accessories or connect it to a dock and a television.

Even then, it's not operating at the performance level of its peers or what modern televisions are capable of displaying. This hasn't been a major emphasis for Nintendo for a long time: It prefers to rely more heavily on gaming experiences rather than resolution and frame rate. That means that when it is connected to its dock and a television, the Switch 2 is only capable of outputting a 4K resolution signal at up to 60 frames per second. It can go up to 120fps if the resolution drops to 1080p, but the data rate required for both these options is pretty much the same. Oddly, it doesn’t even get VRR when docked – that’s reserved for handheld mode only.

TL;DR - These Are the Best TVs for Nintendo Switch 2:

It's actually so low that every mid to high-end television will be able to support the Switch 2 on any of its HDMI ports. That's an important note because PCs, the PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X all require HDMI 2.1 ports to perform at their peak frame rates, resolutions, and with all features.

So while the Nintendo Switch 2 is by every metric less powerful than other current consoles, that means it also allows us to be more broad with our TV recommendations since it doesn't require the best hardware to run at its max.

Given its focus on entertainment for the whole family, I’m working under the assumption that the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to live in the living room (at least when it comes to my top recommendations). Because of this, I recommend the TCL QM6K and Hisense U8 for their outstanding brightness and value.

If you want a more versatile television that can work as a top-tier option for a Nintendo Switch 2 as well as at least one other console, PC, or Blu-Ray player, then we recommend an OLED, specifically the LG C4 or its higher-end sibling, the G4. I’ve been testing and reviewing TVs for years and am confident that any of the below TVs would make a great addition to your Switch 2 setup.

Nintendo and GameStop have addressed the Switch 2 launch day issue of consoles being sold to customers with broken screens, after staples were used to attach receipts onto the Switch 2's box.

As impacted fans have now told IGN, GameStop has begun offering replacement Nintendo Switch 2 consoles sourced from other nearby stores.

The major U.S. retailer has also issued a short statement on the matter — which Nintendo itself pointed to when contacted by IGN asking for comment — that seeks to make clear that GameStop employees only damaged dozens of consoles in one of its stores.

"We've addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens — isolated to one store," GameStop said in a post on social media.

"Replacements have been offered. Staplers have been confiscated," it continued, alongside a short clip from 1999 comedy film Office Space, where an employee gets a stapler taken from their desk by their boss.

Numerous fans who attended the midnight launch of Switch 2 at the Forest Avenue branch of GameStop in Staten Island were left to discover their console screens had been punctured by staples after opening their new purchases.

Some criticised the store's decision to staple receipts to Switch 2 boxes, while others pointed out the design of Nintendo's Switch 2 packaging — which positions the console's main unit against the side of its thin cardboard box, screen facing outwards.

"I knew this would happen," another fan wrote on social media. "It was a weird decision by Nintendo to have the screen sit face-side-up at the very top of the box with only the thin cardboard to protect it. You're going to hear about a few damaged screens in the coming days. They are at risk just being stacked in shipping."

IGN has asked Nintendo and GameSpot if other stores have been warned not to do similar, and whether packaging could be changed to make Switch 2 consoles more secure — from staples or otherwise.

"GameStop did right by me," one fan told IGN today, after receiving a punctured Switch 2 at the console's midnight launch. "They traded it in for a new system. They must of sent a shipment of Switch 2's to that location today to fix the staple problem."

Another customer, who also got their Switch 2 replaced, said they had been told GameStop moved quickly to pull spare stock from other local stores in order to provide replacements.

Legendary director Ridley Scott has indicated he has moved on from the Alien franchise, declaring: “I think I’ve done enough.”

The 87-year-old English film director and producer, who directed 1979’s seminal sci-fi horror Alien before reviving the franchise with 2012’s Prometheus, told ScreenRant in a recent interview: “Where it’s going now, I think I’ve done enough, and I just hope it goes further.”

Scott has left Alien in capable hands, with the successful Alien: Romulus from Fede Álvarez and FX TV series Alien: Earth from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. Alien: Romulus did so well a sequel is in the works. And there are a number of Alien crossover references in the upcoming Predator: Badlands.

In the same interview, Scott talked about how the Alien franchise dropped off after 1997’s Alien: Resurrection, and how that fueled his desire to revive the series with Prometheus. Scott followed up on Prometheus with 2017’s Alien: Covenant, where the Alien franchise was left in terms of mainline films until last year’s Alien: Romulus.

"I think I felt it was deadened after 4," he said. "I think mine was pretty damn good, and I think Jim's [Aliens director James Cameron] was good, and I have to say the rest were not very good. And I thought, 'F**k, that's the end of a franchise which should be as important as bloody Star Trek or Star Wars,' which I think is phenomenal."

He added: “A number of years after, I said, 'I'm going to resurrect this,' [and wrote] Prometheus from scratch — a blank sheet of paper. Damon Lindelof and I sat then hammered out Prometheus.

"It was very present and very welcome. The audience really wanted more. I said, 'It needs to fly.' No-one was coming for it, [and] I went once again [and made] Alien Covenant, and it worked too. Where it's going now, I think I've done enough, and I just hope it goes further."

While Scott has ruled out directing another Alien movie, he was a producer on Alien: Romulus and is an executive producer on Alien: Earth via his production company, Scott Free. Speaking of Alien: Earth, its first full trailer left plenty to chew on for fans.

The bumper State of Play June 2025 showcase set a peak concurrent viewership record for Sony.

Sony kicked off the summer reveal season with a bang, presenting a smorgasbord of new games to whet our appetites going into Summer Games Fest Week, including peeks at 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f.

According to Streams Charts, this week's State of Play peaked at over 2.2 million live viewers for the first time in the series’ history. According to data compiled by the website, State of Play now ranks as the third most-popular gaming or tech showcase of 2025 by peak concurrent viewership. Only two Nintendo Direct presentations pulled in bigger numbers (understandably, Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal is top by a long way).

As spotted by Push Square, the State of Play wasn't Sony's most-watched livestream ever — that honor goes to the PS5 reveal event, which currently boasts 44 million views. The Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Forbidden Dawn presentations were also astonishingly popular, clocking up 15 and 10 million views, respectively. But Tuesday's livestream remains hands-down the most popular State of Play showing ever.

The State of Play focused on third-party — and particularly Japanese developers — with strong announcements from the likes of Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami, ArtPlay, Square Enix, and Team Ninja. There were surprisingly few first-party titles in the presentation.

It also felt very much like this year's summer presentation was focused on committed gamers, too. There seemed to be a propensity of action games, many of which will likely come with mature/18+ ratings.

24 hours into the life of Nintendo Switch 2, it's time to look at what's selling best on the new console's eShop — and get a sense of just how popular those rather minimal-looking Zelda upgrades have been.

Top of the Switch 2 eShop charts at the time of writing is, of course, Mario Kart World — the console's flagship launch title that many (most?) owners will have picked up alongside the console.

It's no surprise to see this in the top spot, and anyone who bought the Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World included will have contributed to its placing here, as you'll have had to redeem an eShop code and download its digital version.

Next up, perhaps surprisingly, is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. Developer CD Projekt will no doubt be delighted to see its latest game doing so well on Switch 2, after it previously skipped Nintendo's last-gen console. With the power to run Cyberpunk's Night City now available, Switch 2 owners look to have jumped at the chance to catch up with the open-world RPG. Earlier this week, IGN chatted with CD Projekt to find out how the developer managed to get Cyberpunk 2077 working on Switch 2.

Third is Nintendo's own Switch 2 Welcome Tour. This is the $10 collection of mini-games and tech demos that many fans believe should have been offered for free (and after an hour with the game myself last night, I am inclined to agree). Part instruction manual, part interactive museum exhibit, Welcome Tour is at least fairly cheap. (Just remember you'll need a camera and a separate controller/grip with GL/GR buttons to play everything included in it.)

The fourth best-selling game on the Switch 2 eShop right now is Fast Fusion, a game which you may not have heard of. This fast-paced sci-fi racer is an interesting addition to the console's launch line-up, as developer Shin'en Multimdia previously released the similar Fast RMX as a launch title for the original Switch, back in March 2017. Why is this series popular with Nintendo fans? Well, because it is essentially F-Zero. And without a new F-Zero from Nintendo anytime soon (if ever again), hardcore Nintendo fans love it.

The fifth biggest game on the Switch 2 eShop is not actually a game, but an upgrade — yes, it's the $10 upgrade to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's interesting to see this chart so highly, as Nintendo Switch Online subscribers do get this add-on included as part of their membership. But perhaps fans have decided they want it to keep? Or maybe they haven't realised. Regardless, the fact this upgrade is so popular clearly shows Nintendo was right to assume people would pay up for some improved visuals (something you get free in upgrades to other titles, such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet), plus access to a new mobile app.

Sixth on the Switch 2 eShop right now is Deltarune, which just launched its latest chapters this week. Seventh is the $10 upgrade pack for Zelda: Breath of the Wild (as an older game, perhaps fewer people are still playing it compared to Tears of the Kingdom).

In eighth place is relaxing role-player Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, while ninth place goes to Square Enix's Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster. This is followed by Yakuza 0 and Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 Fighters Edition.

After these, the full Switch 2 Editions of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild sandwich Hitman World of Assassination. And lastly in the chart is Hogwarts Legacy, whose Switch 2 version features a number of graphical upgrades. A $10 upgrade for this Harry Potter prequel RPG is also available if you owned the game on the original Switch.

Elden Ring Nightreign developer FromSoftware has concluded a fresh round of server maintenance designed to improve matchmaking.

During the game’s launch weekend, FromSoftware acknowledged Elden Ring Nightreign matchmaking issues and offered suggestions to players affected, including restarting the matchmaking process and, specifically on PlayStation 4 and 5, checking their NAT type.

Now, following server maintenance conducted on June 6 “to improve expedition matchmaking with an active Remembrance,” online functionalities have been restored, and fans are hoping for a better experience.

“Thank you for your patience, Nightfarers,” FromSoftware said. “Limveld awaits.”

Despite these issues, Elden Ring Nightreign sold 3.5 million copies after just five days on sale. Elden Ring was a massive hit, selling 30 million since going on sale in 2022, and it seems unlikely that Nightreign will come close to matching that success. For better context, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold 5 million copies within three days of its release in 2024.

Nightreign has also seen its Steam user review rating improve from 'mixed' to 'mostly positive.' Much of the initial negative sentiment revolved around Nightreign’s brutal solo experience, its lack of duos co-op, lack of voice chat, and other archaic mechanics.

But on Monday, FromSoftware released a patch to make solo play much easier, and has confirmed Duos mode is on the way.

So, what happens next? FromSoftware also said that in addition to the DLC releasing later this year, new additions will be “gradually implemented,” including enhanced fights against existing Nightlords starting this month.

Earlier this week, Elden Ring Nightreign's director revealed he had soloed every boss without Relics, and wanted players to know it's "very possible" to see everything.

The official GameCube controller for Nintendo Switch 2 includes gyro controls, fans have discovered — a feature that Nintendo itself kept quiet about before launch.

Now, the hunt is on to find how tilt controls work in various Switch 2 games — as fans try their shiny new purple controllers with a range of other titles.

Initially, Nintendo had stated that its GameCube controller would only be compatible with the Nintendo GameCube — Nintendo Classics collection that is now available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.

But the company later clarified that while the controller was designed for use only with GameCube games, it could be used for other Switch 2 titles — albeit on a case-by-case basis.

"Since it doesn't have all the buttons and features found in other controllers that can be used with the Nintendo Switch 2 system, there may be some issues when playing other games," the company previously said in a statement to Nintendo Life.

So, fans were already planning to see how the GameCube controller worked elsewhere on Switch 2 — but the inclusion of gyro controls has come as a fresh surprise.

In one social media post that's since gone viral, one fan shows off their GameCube controller's gyro controls moving the camera in Splatoon — to the bemusement of their cat.

In another post, we can see the GameCube controller being used in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, allowing Link to aim his bow.

And in a third post, another fan has discovered the gyro controls act as the Wii Remote pointer in Super Mario Galaxy, played via Nintendo's time-limited Super Mario 3D All-Stars package.

On YouTube, GVG has a deep dive into how the GameCube controller can play the Switch's Metroid Prime 1 remaster, with a number of different options available. This is especially cool as you are, of course, playing a remaster of a GameCube game using a remake of a GameCube controller, four console generations later.

Why Nintendo didn't more widely advertise its inclusion of gyro controls in the GameCube controller is anyone's guess — though the sheer number of compatibility options for every game playable on Switch 2 would have been a headache to keep track of.

(And let's not forget, the Switch 2 still has compatibility issues with some Switch 1 games — even including big hitters like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.)

As fans discover how gyro controls work in a wider number of games, for now it's safe to say that there's plenty you could be using your new GameCube Switch 2 controller with, beyond just a few old retro classics.

Right now, the Switch Online's Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics collection is looking pretty thin, with just the original version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, plus F-Zero GX and SoulCalibur 2 available.

Still, Nintendo has confirmed a number of other GameCube classics will follow (including Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Mario Smash Football, Luigi's Mansion and Chibi-Robo!), though there's no word yet on when they might materialise.

With gyro controls available, though, surely Super Monkey Ball should be next?

Madame Web has gone down as one of the most disastrous superhero movies of all time, flopping at the box office amid a flood of negative reviews. Upon release it broke records as the worst opening for a Sony Spider-Man film ever and was the first Marvel film since Fox's Fantastic Four reboot to fail to open at number one.

Even Hideo Kojima, the legendary game director behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, couldn't muster up more than six words in his review. IGN managed a few more, putting the film's failings down to an "overcrowded" script loaded with "extraneous characters, basic archetypes, and generic dialogue."

Since then, and following the even worse Kraven the Hunter, Sony was reported to have given up on its Spider-Man universe to focus on next year’s surefire hit Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

So, what went wrong with Madame Web? There has been much hand-wringing since it came out. Last year, Emma Roberts, who played Mary Parker in the movie, attributed Madame Web's poor box office performance and critical reception to internet culture and "everything being made into a joke." One line of dialogue in the trailer went viral after people poked fun at it, and that line didn't even make it into the final cut of the movie.

Sydney Sweeney, who starred as Julia Cornwall (aka Spider-Woman), admitted she was "along for the ride," but used a Saturday Night Live monologue to emphasize all the other acting roles she is known for and completely disowned her turn as the Spidey superheroine, saying: "You definitely did not see me in Madame Web."

Now, Dakota Johnson, who played the title role, has expanded her thoughts on Madame Web, issuing strong words that get at the significant trouble the movie suffered during its development.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times as part of the promo tour for rom-com Materialists, Johnson said of Madame Web’s failure: “It wasn’t my fault.”

“There’s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee," she continued. "Or made by people who don’t have a creative bone in their body. And it’s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. And I think unfortunately with Madame Web, it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.”

Dune: Awakening isn't even properly out yet, but it has already set a concurrent player record on Steam of almost 100,000 players.

According to Steam's official stats, Dune: Awakening peaked at 93,634 concurrent players yesterday, June 5, even though the game only released for "head start" (read: early access) players who bought either the $69.99 Deluxe Edition or the $89.99 Ultimate edition. For everyone else, the game goes live on June 10, 2025.

Concurrent players isn't the only metric we should use when measuring how successful a game is, of course, but it's a good starting point, even though it doesn't account for players on other platforms (not that Dune: Awakening is available on other platforms just yet; the PS5 and Xbox Series release will follow at a later date).

Historically, weekends are usually when most players opt to jump into a game, so it's possible Dune: Awakening will hit an even higher peak concurrent count before official launch on June 10. Of the thousands of games currently on sale on Steam, it's currently 195th in the chart of the highest-ever concurrent peaks. Not bad for a game that's not even out yet.

We haven't yet had chance to review Dune: Awakening, but we did have take an extended peek when the beta was live. "As a longtime fan of Dune, it also just feels so good to explore and learn more about a world that I’m quite fond of, and Funcom has clearly put a ton of effort into worldbuilding and lore, even despite taking quite a bit of creative liberty by placing Awakening within a parallel reality and canon than the books/movies," we wrote in IGN's Dune: Awakening closed beta impressions preview.

"There are little details that have a massive impact on gameplay. I won’t go into spoilers, but this kind of attention to detail touches just about every aspect of the world, including the factions and characters you meet along the way, which should be a treat for any fan of the setting."

Nintendo Switch 2 supports your smartphone as a camera, fans have discovered — and you just need two cheap cables to get up and running.

We already knew that Switch 2 supported other, third-party USB cameras — and you may already have one lying around the house that you can simply plug in, if it has a USB-C connection. But what about your phone — a device we all carry around with a camera attached?

Well, as detailed by YouTube channel Will It Work?, Nintendo's new console is indeed compatible with modern phones, if you plug one in with an HDMI to USB-C capture cable.

By plugging a USB-C to HDMI cable into your smartphone, and then a HDMI capture cable into that, your phone is essntially turned into a device that your Switch 2 identifies as any other USB camera.

Will It Work? shows this all in action, and recommends a free app named TrueVistage that puts the phone's camera in full screen without any buttons, to remove on-screen clutter.

Once plugged in, the Switch 2 does indeed simply show the phone's video on the console (and there's a handy camera testing feature buried in the Switch 2's menus, in order to check everything works).

Nintendo is selling its own Switch 2 Camera for $54.99 — but it's a rather bulky device you're unlikely to use elsewhere. After all, you're more likely to have your phone with you when playing away from home, rather than bother carrying a separate camera.

How much will this solution cost? Well, links to Amazon product pages provided by the Will It Work? video show these cables cost a combined $30.98, though you may be able to get them cheaper. But already, you're saving $24 on the Switch 2's official camera (and $29 if you wanted the Switch 2 Camera's Piranha Plant version). Plus, depending on how much we're all really going to be using GameChat, you're also saving buying yet another gadget that may or may not get much use.

Games, games, games. It's what a new console is all about. Well, kinda. Nintendo Switch 2 is already building a stacked library of games, blending shiny new exclusives with upgraded re-releases of fan favorites. Heavyweights like Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) and Mario Kart World ($79.99) are leading the charge.

It's also a brilliant opportunity to check out games you already own and see if the game has vastly improved on the new hardware, like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet incredible performance boost. Let's not forget that the Switch 2 Edition of Pokémon Legends: Z-A is also now up for preorder.

You can also pick up games you might have no got the chance to play over the past generation, or were simply waiting for better hardware to play them on, such as enhanced versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, fine-tuned for the new hardware.

With the release of Predator: Killer of Killers, the animated film from Prey and Predator: Badlands director Dan Trachtenberg, Michael Biehn has joined an exclusive Hollywood club.

First, some background. Film buffs who enjoy their Hollywood trivia will know that up to this point there were just two actors who had appeared in an Alien, Predator, and Terminator movie: Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen.

The late Paxton played the iconic role of Private William Hudson in 1986’s Aliens, Detective Jerry Lambert in 1990s Predator 2, and a punk in 1984’s The Terminator. Henriksen, meanwhile, played Bishop in the Alien franchise, Charles Bishop Weyland, the man upon whom Bishop was based, in 2004’s Alien vs. Predator, and Detective Hal Vukovich in The Terminator. As an aside, both actors also died at the hands of a Xenomorph, a Yautja, and a Terminator across the movies.
