Netflix's Jay Kelly Review

Jay Kelly will be released in select theaters on November 14, and will debut on Netflix on December 5.

The cacophony of noises on the set of a major motion picture is enough to drive any person crazy. There’s yelling from all over, person after person after person trying to get someone’s attention, equipment moving and shifting under your (and everyone else’s) feet. But in director Noah Baumbach’s latest feature Jay Kelly, the title character couldn’t be more at home in the chaos. It’s what he, a generational superstar actor beloved for his work over the course of about 40 years, knows best. But what he finds as he approaches the twilight years of his storied career is that he maybe should’ve gotten to know other things better, namely his two daughters, who seem to be slipping through his fingers like grains of sand as they embark on their own lives.

This is, of course, the heart of this entertaining and poignant examination of the life of great artists – and Baumbach’s emotional resonance as a filmmaker and writer (a duty he shares this time with actress Emily Mortimer) allows him to explore it gently and graciously with nuance, frank comedy, and stark sentimentality in a way that feels truthful and human despite the larger-than-life nature of the film’s subject. Oh, and on that note I should mention: Kelly is played by none other than George Clooney.

Clooney is the heart and soul of this film, not only because he’s an excellent actor who’s proven himself as such over the years, but because he innately understands what Jay Kelly is going through as a person. He’s lived that life, the life of someone who knows a thing or two about the personal sacrifices necessary in the face of great art. Jay Kelly is, ultimately, an obvious stand-in for Clooney himself, but that’s why the character, and the film overall, works. It’s a necessary element of Baumbach’s picture, especially considering the narrative is somewhat less personal to the director than many of his other works. Clooney’s personal connection to the narrative acts as somewhat of a surrogate for the connection Baumbach (Kicking and Screaming, The Squid and the Whale, Marriage Story) always has to his stories, imbuing it with the same kind of life his other somewhat autobiographical projects have had in the past. It’s key, because without that kind of smart casting, this film probably would fall way more flat than it does. Kelly, as a product of Baumbach’s direction and writing and Clooney’s choices and instincts, is a beautiful disaster of a man, one who is noble in his trying and human in his errors. He is, ultimately, just like any of us who try and try and try: We’re bound to make mistakes along the way.

Kelly, as a product of Baumbach’s direction and writing and Clooney’s choices and instincts, is a beautiful disaster of a man, one who is noble in his trying and human in his errors.

Kelly is, of course, nothing without the people who helped him throughout his career, the ones who ended up being a surrogate for the family he neglected. That’s where Adam Sandler comes in with an excellent turn as Kelly’s manager Ron, who has been with him for his entire 40-year career. Sandler is of course known for his comedic chops, but has played straight dramatic roles over the years as well, including in 2019’s Uncut Gems. Here his Ron is touching, drenched in charm and sadness in equal measure.

The supporting cast in general – namely Kelly’s team, made up of Sandler and Laura Dern as his publicist, as well as Greta Gerwig as Ron’s wife, Grace Edwards and Riley Keough as Kelly’s somewhat estranged daughters, and an exciting Billy Crudup as an old friend who resurfaces in a movie-stealing scene — brings the entire picture together in the same way an artist's team brings together all the challenging elements of their extravagant and hectic lives so they can just be who the world wants them to be. Dern is hilarious as she lays out some heartfelt truths worth examining about who your friends are in this business. Gerwig also adds a great bit of comedic relief to the project alongside Sandler’s real-life daughters and the young actor who splits sides as Ron’s son.

Edwards and Keough are playing very different women with different goals and ideals, but they each bring a sense of independence and self-preservation to the roles that makes the crucial nature of their characters stand out. They’re both a joy to watch, though their ultimate paths are somewhat tragic for Kelly because he’s missed his opportunity to ride alongside them. Both performers embody that tragedy in their own ways, with Edwards’ quirky, free-spirited, and headstrong soul bare throughout her time in the narrative and Keough’s resentment and anger bubbling over with just the right amount of tension and consideration. As for Crudup, he’s the one-two punch (no pun intended – if you know you know) of the film and his turn, though short, is revelatory for the same reasons Kelly praises him in the film: his ability to perform in every sense of the concept, and to breathe life and truth into every word, biting or tender. These performances are the bedrock of Clooney’s ability to build a full life around Kelly.

Visually, Baumbach is also doing quite a bit of exploring. His surreal approach to embodying Kelly’s mind, and by extension his regrets, is fun and compelling to see. It truly feels as though he is walking through his own mind as he makes his way through every day, unable to help but remember the moments that have defined him and his life over the years. Baumbach has Kelly do this in the literal sense, as one doorway in one locale in the present leads to landscapes of haunting memory in the past. It’s an effective way for Kelly to explore his emotional life, his mortality, and his accomplishments and failures professional and personal – and how they have ultimately affected who he was, who he is, and who he will be throughout the remainder of his career and life.

The Running Man Post-Credits Check-In (No Spoilers)

Let's make this simple. You want to know if there are any mid- or post-credits scenes in The Running Man. The answer is no, though the entirety of the closing credits are accompanied by some in-universe imagery that does add a bit to the world of the film and where things go after the conclusion.

Be sure to check back on this page Friday for a full spoiler breakdown of the film!

Those who are only familiar with The Running Man thanks to the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger may be surprised by how different the specifics of the story are in director Edgar Wright’s new version, which is much more rooted in the original 1982 Stephen King novel vs. that earlier adaptation. This version of Ben Richards (Glen Powell) isn’t captured and forced to play the diabolical game show, The Running Man, but instead volunteers for it in his desperation to help his sick baby daughter, Cathy. Even if he is killed within the 30 days he has to try to avoid the game’s five dreaded Hunters – led by the always-masked McCone (Lee Pace) – he’ll at least likely earn a lot of money along the way that his wife, Sheila (Jayme Lawson), can use to buy Cathy the medicine they can’t currently afford.

And so that's the set-up for this new take on The Running Man, which we'll be delving into fully starting on Friday with an ending explained (do people still bookmark pages? Because you should do that right here). But in the meantime, you may be sitting in the theater wondering if there are any post-credits scenes or not...

Is There a Running Man Post-Credits Scene?

No, there’s no actual scenes once we cut to the credits. However, for the entire duration of the closing credits, we see what look like pages from a fanzine in the background, though they’re filled with information written after the events of the film.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for a full spoilery discussion of the movie, and check out some of our other coverage of The Running Man below!

Alienware's Flagship 18" Area-51 RTX 5080 Gaming Laptop Drops to $2,300 for Black Friday

Dell just kicked off the best deal I've seen so far on its flagship Alienware Area-51 laptop. Ahead of Black Friday, Dell Outlet has "Like New" Aienware 18 Area-51 18" RTX 5080 gaming laptops in stock starting at $3,520. For a limited time, there's an additional 18% discount (automatically applied in your shopping cart) that drops the price to just $2,328.80 with free shipping. That is a huge price drop from the current price of $3,000 new from Dell (Alienware). Note that "Like New" models are certified refurbished and include the same 1 year warranty as buying new.

Alienware 18 Area-51 RTX 5080 Laptop for $2,328.80

Like new (refurbished) with 1 year Dell warranty

This particular configuration comes well-equipped with a 18" 2560x1600 300Hz G-Sync display, Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, RTX 5080 16GB GPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz memory, and a 1TB SSD. If you think the amount of memory and storage are insufficient for your needs, rest assured that both are easily user upgradeable.

There aren't very many 18" gaming laptops around, and even fewer that are equipped with the RTX 5080 mobile GPU. Of the ones that are available for purchase at the moment, this is far and away the least expensive deal. In fact, it's one of the only laptops I've found with a price tag under $3,000. Take a look at its competition (and note these are sale prices):

The Area-51: new color, curvy design, metal construction, and upgraded cooling

The Alienware Area-51 is a considerable upgrade compared to the previous generation's Alienware m16. For starters, it's clad in anodized aluminum for both the lid and bottom chassis and features a unique iridescent finish that sparkles in direct lighting. The frame is made of a durable and lightweight magnesium alloy. Cooling has been upgraded with generous amounts of copper and a new thermal interface. Dell claims that it can handle up to 240W TDP without raising acoustics.

Design-wise, the Area 51 has a sleeker, more contoured shape compared to previous models, with rounded edges and soft corners replacing the traditional squared off design. The hinges are internally positioned so that they're near invisible. There's a transparent window on the undercarriage to show off the internal components. There's also plenty of RGB illumination, although most of it can be turned off if you don't like that sort of thing.

The GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU is better than the RTX 4090 mobile

The Alienware Area-51's aggressive cooling allows it to accomodate the RTX 5080 mobile GPU without throttling it. The RTX 5080 is roughly 15%-20% more powerful than the RTX 4080 that it replaces. In fact, it's even more powerful than the RTX 4090, which was the previous generation's flagship card. You'll be able to play any game at frame rates of 60fps or higher on the 1600p display. You could even enable ray tracing in most games, something that was unheard of in laptops just a few years ago. The general consensus is that upgrading from an RTX 5080 (mobile) to RTX 5090 won't yield significant performance gains relative to the huge price difference.

Lenovo Legion Tower 7i Gen 10 Review

The Legion Tower 7i is a clean and neatly packed gaming PC with a powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 and Intel Core Ultra 9 285K tamed by a 360mm AIO cooler – which makes it a solid high-end prebuilt gaming rig, even if it is quite expensive. It’ll give you that powerful performance you want in a premium gaming PC, but if you’re into shiny RGB components, you may want to opt for RAM that doesn’t look like a naked piece of circuit board.

However, if all you’re interested in is graphics performance, there are certainly cheaper gaming PCs out there. And while I do like the RGB lighting, the case screams budget more than anything else. That may be a dealbreaker for some, but the Legion Tower 7i still offers everything you need in a gaming PC to take on modern AAA games at high settings.

Design and Features

The Legion Tower 7i slimmed down from last year’s model, which is great because it was quite chunky. It now measures 18.8 inches tall (previously 19.37 inches) and 16.34 inches wide (previously 18.27 inches). It’s still kind of chunky, but it’s an improvement.

But the Lenovo Legion Tower 7i is still your average 35-pound mid-tower blasted in a stormy gray paint that will make you mistake it for any other nondescript gaming PC until you turn the lights on. Then, you’ll get blasted with the bold RGB, highlighting the tower’s caged honeycomb aesthetic alongside its bright Legion logo. Meanwhile, the rounded edges and fans on top add to the mechanical aesthetic. If you’re looking at the tempered glass panel when the lights kick on, white LEDs glow and highlight the components in the chassis, while the liquid cooler, GPU, and rear fans alight in RGB. However, the RAM remains to be naked in the motherboard.

Popping open the glass panel was easy; I just removed two thumbscrews in the back and slid it off (getting it back on required similar minimal effort). While the RTX 5080 is a relatively average size, it does take up the size of two PCIe slots. Below that, there’s one PCIe 4.0 x16 and PCIe 3.0 slot, but if you want to plug anything into those ports, they’ll need to be relatively thin cards. But even with the tight packing, this is an extremely clean build, with the cables neatly packed.

Getting the back panel off was a bit harder. The thumbscrews were tight as heck (I had to pull out a screwdriver), and I had to put way more pressure than I should have to slide it off (and back on). The cables in the back were zip tied and shoved in the empty space in front of the PSU slot. It looks neat, but if you wanted to replace anything, you’ll need some scissors and some dexterity to avoid knocking a cable out of the PSU.

The front panel connectors are located at the top instead of the front, near the power button. There’s a headphone jack, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, two USB 2 Type-A, and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C slot. It’s great to see a Type-C port on the front since it was missing last year, and gaming PCs need more than one Type-C slot in 2025.

You can find the other Type-C port on the back, which supports Thunderbolt 4. You also get four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, two USB 2.0 Type-A, an RJ-45 Ethernet, and six audio ports. The number of audio ports is confusing, for sure, but its the same amount as on the previous model. There’s also a DisplayPort on the motherboard, which most people shouldn't use, but can be useful for troubleshooting.

The Legion Tower 7i also comes with a generic keyboard and mouse. If you’re buying an expensive gaming PC like this, you probably shouldn’t play games with a keyboard and mouse you could find in a lost and found bin. That seems brutal, but after playing a few matches of Marvel Rivals, the mouse could not keep up with my movements to defend myself before I got ganked. The keyboard is less offensive, but it’s still at the bottom of the barrel. Its membrane keys are mushy and don’t offer the satisfying feedback you need from a gaming keyboard, and the kickstand on the underside barely lifts it up, providing nearly no support for my wrists.

Software

Unfortunately, the Lenovo Legion Tower 7i does have some bloatware, like the Lenovo Vantage app, which keeps track of your warranty, system information, and can maintain hardware health with scans and driver updates. That is useful, especially if you don’t want to deal with Windows 11’s built in hardware management. Lenovo also pre-installed the ‘Lenovo Now’ app, which is essentially a link to the Lenovo Subscription Marketplace, which will try to sell you stuff you probably don’t need – you should probably uninstall that.

However, one tool you should actually keep on the machine is LegionSpace. This is where you can monitor your CPU, GPU, and RAM, change the lighting profile of your PC and adjust performance profiles between Quiet, Balance, and Performance. You can also use this app to overclock your GPU, which I wouldn’t do unless you’re comfortable doing the necessary tinkering.

Performance

That chunky card you see in the Legion Tower 7i is an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU with 16GB of VRAM – that's as premium as you can get if you want to stay around $3,000. It's paired with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K and 64GB of RAM. You won't be getting triple-digit frames in every game you play, but you won't need DLSS 4’s frame generation for 4K, 60 fps gaming.

Jumping into Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K with the Ray Tracing Ultra preset and DLSS set to Performance, the Legion Tower 7i hits a strong 76 fps. If you want to take advantage of that high refresh rate display you got for your birthday, throw on Frame Generation (x2) to get 124 fps. Jumping to Multi-Frame Generation (x4) will net you 198 fps.

Similarly, the Legion Tower 7i managed a strong 62 fps in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, while frame generation took it up to 94 fps. The Legion struggled the most with the Metro Exodus benchmark, hitting 59 fps, but that tracks since it’s a heavy workload without all the upscaling. A competitive game like Black Ops 6 runs smooth, at 121 fps, which is enough to catch the enemy slipping.

I hopped into a few matches of Marvel Rivals (trying to do those weeklies) at 4K, with the Ultra preset and DLAA, 4x Multi-Frame Generation. I averaged about 167 fps with 44 milliseconds of latency as I scorched a Jeff from across the arena with Phoenix’s cosmic flame. You won't be able to fill out a 4K, 240Hz display on max settings, but the Legion Tower 7i offers more than enough for the average gamer, even a competitive one. If you turn down a few settings, or play less demanding games, you’ll definitely be able to saturate a 240Hz refresh rate

If you don’t want to compromise, you can just get the Legion Tower 7i with an RTX 5090, but then you start getting to prices that make the Origin Millenium or the Maingear Apex Artist Series look a little more reasonable – and that’s saying something.

The Fourth Wing Special Edition Books Are Buy 2, Get 1 Free Ahead of Black Friday

The Empyrean series has been my guilty pleasure since I first read Fourth Wing. Rebecca Yarros's approach to weaving together fantasy, romance, and character development makes it one of the best romantasy reads out there. The series has been extremely popular at Amazon's Kindle store all year long with the release of the third book, Onyx Storm, but it's also sold extremely well in terms of physical book sales.

If you're like me and chose to devour these novels via reading tablet, you'll be happy to know that the special edition hardcover versions are currently part of the 'Buy 2, Get 1 Free' sale at Amazon ahead of Black Friday. The Wing and Claw collection includes beautiful stenciled edges that bring a striking visual element to each book.

Fourth Wing Books Sale at Amazon Today

If you aren't familiar with how Amazon's "3 for 2" sale actually works, it's fairly simple to explain. All you need to do is add all three of these books to your cart and Amazon will automatically discount the price of the cheapest one when you go to check out. So in this case if you were to buy all three of the Wing and Claw editions in the Empyrean series, you'd save an additional $21.39 on top of the already discounted prices. This means you can get the full hardcover collection for only $49.06 while this sale lasts.

There is some weirdness with how the Wing and Claw collection was released. Onyx Storm was released back in January 2025 (alongside the special edition), but the rest of the series hadn't received the Wing and Claw treatment yet. It wasn't until September that both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame received a Wing and Claw edition. So for those of you who purchased Onyx Storm at launch and are looking to complete your set, this sale is a great opportunity. You'll just need to buy a third book from the sale to take advantage of this promotion.

What is the Empyrean Series about?

The story follows Violet Sorrengail, a seemingly fragile young girl who has been forced by her powerful mother to enter the very dangerous academy of dragon riders. As she finds ways to overcome her weaknesses and survive, Violet must also battle her own complex emotions about her mother, her old friend, and a boy she thinks wants nothing more than to see her dead. All the while, there's more going on with the dragons and her world than meets the eye, and she finds herself at the center of it all whilst in the heat of an epic romance.

Amazon is planning on bringing Fourth Wing to the screen after the success of the books and a TV series is already in the works for Prime Video.

Should you wait for Black Friday to buy?

We're only halfway through November, so there are still plenty of Black Friday sales on the horizon. And those sales are arriving quickly. Amazon recently announced that its own Black Friday sale will be kicking off on Thursday, November 20 this year and will include book deals up to 65% off. As for what book deals will be included in that sale, we are still in the dark. So with that in mind, this early book promotion is absolutely worth taking advantage of before Black Friday truly begins.

While it's certainly possible that retailers will reduce the prices of the Fourth Wing books individually, it's unlikely that those discounts will be as steep as getting an entire book for free. If you only want to buy one of these books, It's probably worth waiting, but if you're going to buy the full collection then right now is the best time to do so.

The Alienware 18 Area-51 RTX 5090 Gaming Laptop Drops Below $2,900 for Black Friday

The biggest and most powerful gaming laptop that anyone can get is an 18" laptop equipped with a GeForce RTX 5090 mobile GPU. Normally such a system would cost you over $4,000, but there's a pretty outrageous deal going on right now. Dell Outlet currently has "Like New" Alienware 18 Area-51 RTX 5090 gaming laptops in stock starting at $2,840. Even better, there's an additional 18% discount (automatically applied in your shopping cart) that drops the price to just $2,886.40 with free shipping. That is a huge price drop from the current price of $4,550 new from Dell (Alienware). Note that "Like New" models are certified refurbished and include the same 1 year warranty as buying new.

Alienware 18 Area-51 RTX 5090 Laptop for $2,886.40

The RTX 5090 mobile is undisputedly the best GPU for gamers and creators

The RTX 5090 is the most powerful mobile gaming CPU available and performs about 15% better than the RTX 5080. Currently you can get an Alienware Area-51 RTX 5090 gaming laptop for as low as $3,299.99. It's about $400 more expensive than the RTX 5080 model, which is a fair price premium for a more powerful graphics card that also has a lot more VRAM (24GB vs 16GB). The extra memory is useful for 4K gaming as well as generative AI.

The LEGO Technic Ford GT Drops to Its Lowest Price Ever on Amazon Ahead of Black Friday

Amazon is kicking off a few great LEGO deals ahead of Black Friday, including the lowest price ever on one of my favorite vehicle builds. The popular LEGO Technic Ford Mustang 10265 has dropped to just $83.99 shipped after a hefty 30% off discount. This is the lowest price I've ever seen for this particular model. It's also one of the most affordable expert-level Technic kits that LEGO sells, and it doesn't hurt that the finished build looks fantastic to boot.

30% off LEGO Technic 2022 Ford GT 42154

This set is a 1:12 replica of the real-life 2022 Ford GT, measuring 15" long, 7" wide, and 3.5" tall and comprised of 1,466 brick pieces. Authentic features include a V6 engine with moving pistons (the hood can be opened so you can admire this well after the build is completed), independent suspension on all wheels, front-axle steering, and a rear-wheel drive with differential. It's all decked out in a dark blue "paintjob" with white racing stripes, For you brick collectors, the dark blue brick pieces are rather uncommon, so extra points here for getting a unique and pleasing color instead of the more boring and ubiquitous gray, brown, and black bricks or the questionably aesthetic lime green ones.

At this price you're paying only about 5.7 cents per brick with plenty of shape variety. That's a great value, especially since this is a themed kit with a licensed real-world car model. Also, the current crop of LEGO Technic values is heavily tilted towards Formula 1 race cars, so if the traditonal car body is more your style, there aren't too many options to choose from. Here are other similarly sized Technic cars and their current prices. The 2022 Ford GT is a phenomenally better value!

Plan Your Pokemon Team with This Cool Tool on Planet Pokemon

Attention trainers! Maxroll and IGN have teamed up to launch Planet Pokemon, a new strategy guide site and competitive Planner for your Pokemon team with a bunch of other cool features you won’t find anywhere else.

You can currently plan your Pokémon team using Planet Pokémon one-of-a-kind tools for four games: Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Sword and Shield – and we are working on more Pokémon games now!

All of our Planner stats are powered by a deep Pokédex and curated by our team of Pokémon experts that brought you Maxroll, IGN, Eurogamer, and Map Genie’s decades of the very best Pokémon strategy guides out there. So how does this all work? We will have Eurogamer's Pokémon lead Lottie Lynn walk you through it...

How to Use the Pokémon Planner

Whether you're new to the Pokémon universe or a longtime player getting ready for your next nuzlocke challenge, our Pokémon Planner is here to help you organize your next team!

Since our Planner is divided up by game, you don't have to worry about accidentally including Pokémon you can't actually catch. Alongside this, we've also included the complete moveset for each Pokémon and every item they can hold. You can even play around with the EVs and IVs for a Pokémon. Combining all of these features together in one place means you can easily curate a team to suit your purposes.

Want to make a strong start in the online competitive world? Then use the Planner to ensure you have a balanced team! Want to see how changing one Pokémon could affect your team on the whole? Then our Planner will show you any weakness gaps that might appear! Want to build a team of six Magikarps for some reason? Well our Planner can help you do that too.

So let's take a look at how it works!

Getting Started

The first step in using the Pokémon Planner is to select the game you wish to make a team for. You can easily do this by selecting the drop-down menu next to 'Change Game' at the top of the planner.

Before we go any further, however, it's important to point out that you will need to be logged into Pokémon Planet if you want to save your planned team. It's a good idea to do this before going any further! You can find the 'Login' button in the top right-hand corner of the page and there will also be an option to make an account too. We go over the exact details for saving your team further along in this guide.

Adding Pokémon

Once you've selected the game you're playing, it's time to add the Pokémon you want in your team. To do this, click on one of the six 'Choose Pokémon' boxes to open a menu containing all of the Pokémon in your chosen game.

Don't worry, we've ensured that only the Pokémon present in each game's Pokédex will appear. This means that, as long as you've selected the correct game, you won't run into any unavailable Pokémon. Just remember that if you're building a team for a version title, such as Pokémon Scarlet, you will need to keep an eye out for any version exclusive Pokémon.

There are three main ways you can search for Pokémon - simply scrolling down the list, searching by name or filtering by type. It's possible to select multiple types too, which is handy if you're looking for a dual type Pokémon. Selecting the 'Mega Pokémon' option will also allow you to just see the Mega Pokémon present in your chosen game. Though, keep in mind that Mega Pokémon are only available in select Pokémon games.

Since all of the Pokémon in your chosen game are available - including pre-evolved Mons, Legendary and Mythical Pokémon - you're free to input whichever Pokémon you like. This could be your current team, your endgame goal or Pokémon you're considering adding. No matter what you choose, I recommend adding six Pokémon so you've got a whole team to play with.

After selecting all of the Pokémon you either have or want in your team, it's time to start filling in the details for each one. This includes adding their moves, stats and any item they might be holding. Let's start with stats.

Adding Stats

The Stats section for each Pokémon can be found on the left-hand side of the Planner and will always display the Base Stats for each Pokémon. You're also able to add its current Stats, including EVs and IVs.

The first step in adding your Pokémon's Stats is to choose its Level. The Pokémon Planner selects each Pokémon's Level to 100 by default, which is handy for organizing an endgame team.

If, however, you want to enter a Pokémon's current level, you can do so by either selecting the number '100' and changing it or by moving the blue slider beneath said number. Changing a Pokémon's Level from 100 will automatically change all of its current Stats - found at the bottom of this section - to make the Level you've chosen.

Now it's time to sort out the EVs and IVs, which is where things get a little complicated. This is because both are considered Hidden Stats, meaning you can't see their exact values in-game. There's a quick Hidden Stats explainer further along in this guide if you want to learn more about how exactly EVs and IVs work.

You've got two options when it comes to entering both into the Pokémon Planner - either put in the EVs / IVs you're aiming for or do your best to figure out what they are in-game. If you're going for the last option, keep in mind that the IV Judge Function typically doesn't unlock until you've reached the postgame.

Once you've decided which option you're going with, EVs can be entered either using the blue slider in the middle or by typing them directly into the left-hand column. Since you can only have 510 EVs for every Pokémon, the Pokémon Planner will helpfully prevent you from going over that number.

For IVs, you'll need to change the number in the right-hand column. (Remember - it's highly unlikely you're going to have a Pokémon which has 31 perfect IVs for every stat.)

The changes you make to see values will be reflected in the Stat layout at the bottom of the screen.

Adding Moves

Adding Pokémon's Moves is quite easy. Simply select the 'Add Move' button beneath the 'Move' subheading on the right-hand side of the page. This will open up a menu of all the moves this Pokémon can use in your chosen game. Here you can either search for a specific move or simply scroll down the menu. The moves a Pokémon can learn from TMs will also be available!

Remember - each Pokémon can only know four moves at a time and we've kept to this rule in the Pokémon Planner. If you want to remove a move, hover your cursor over it and select the 'Change' option.

Adding Items

To add an item, select 'Add Item'. This will bring up a list of every item available in the game you're building a team for. You can either scroll through the list or search for the one you're looking for.

Once you've found the correct item, simply click on it and it shall be added to your Pokémon!

Now you just need to repeat this process for all of the other Pokémon in your team.

Team Defense and Team Coverage Explained

After filling in all of the information for your team, take a look at the 'Team Defense' and 'Team Coverage' sections.

Team Defense will give you an idea of what types your team currently includes (based on both Pokémon and moves) and the weaknesses you need to keep an eye out for. A blue line means that you've included these Pokémon types, while a red line means one of your included Pokémon is weak to this type.

Team Coverage, meanwhile, informs you which Pokémon types your team has an advantage over. The more little blue bashes beneath a type, the more Pokémon you have in your team that can counter it. If a type doesn't have a dash at all, then you might want to consider changing your team!

How to Save Your Team

To save your planned team, you first need to log into Planet Pokémon. You can do this by using the 'Login' button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. After this, either login or make an account if you're new!

Next, click the 'Manage Teams' button which can be found above the Pokémon you've entered for your team. Here you'll be able to name your current team, save it, create folders to organize your various teams in and be able to create new teams too.

To save a team, first give it a name by entering something into the box containing the words 'Name your Team'. Once you're happy, select 'Save Current Team'. This will automatically save your team into the folder you've currently got selected.

After saving a team, you'll be able to change its name, make a copy or delete it by using the options found on the right hand side. You can also move a team to a new folder by dragging and dropping it.

A Note on Hidden Stats

The EV and IV for every individual Pokémon are considered Hidden Stats. This is because, while you're able to get an idea of what they are, you'll never be able to see the exact number for each one.

It's also worth noting that Gen 3 changed how EVs and IVs worked. The following explanation follows those rules, so will not be applicable for the Gen 1 and Gen 2 games.

EVs - Effort Value - corresponds to each of the six main stats. Each Pokémon has a total amount of 510 EVs divided across these stats, with the maximum one stat can have being 252 EVs. Depending on the game, various items, such as Vitamins, Berries or Feathers, can be used to train or deplete an EV. Depending on the game, you should be able to view a Pokémon's EVs on the Stat page of their Summary. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to use the exact value.

Each main stat also has an IV - Individual Value - which is calculated based on the Pokémon's Base Stats, Nature and EVs. Typically an IV can not be changed unless you use Hyper Training to maximise it. IVs range from 0 to 31 - with 0 being the worst and 31 being perfect. Each Pokémon game has a Judge Function which can be unlocked, usually by reaching the postgame, that will give you an idea of what a Pokémon's IVs are.

LEGO Star Wars Grogu with Hover Pram Is Half Price Ahead of Black Friday

We’re still a couple weeks away from Black Friday proper, but the deals are already popping. Among them is this excellent (and adorable) LEGO Star Wars Grogu with Hover Pram set. Based on the beloved Baby Yoda character from The Mandalorian, it’s on sale at Amazon for $49.99, a full 50% off the standard price. That’s a killer deal on one of the best LEGO Star Wars sets. It's also a deal that's unlikely to be beaten even on Black Friday. It's also unclear how long this price will last, so grab it if you want it.

LEGO Star Wars: Grogu with Hover Pram for $49.99

Sought-after LEGO sets like this go on sale from time to time, but rarely for this steep of a discount. This is the lowest price this particular set has ever been by far (it’s mostly stayed at $99.99, according to the Amazon price-tracking site Camelcamelcamel). When LEGO sets do get discounts, it’s generally 20% - 30%. You almost never see a 50% discount.

The real question is, is it worth buying? I can answer that with an emphatic yes. We built this set when it released earlier this year, and had a blast doing it. While it’s technically aimed at the 10+ age group, it doubles as a LEGO set for adults by design. That’s because it comes with a buildable stand for the hover pram and an informational placard to put on display in front of it, to use it as a decoration.

As for the build itself, it’s fun to put together. It comes with two instruction books, one for Grogu and one for the hover pram. You piece them both together in a fairly straightforward way (making it accessible to the 10+ age range). And once you do, you have an adorable Jedi you can pose in a number of ways.

You can move his arms using a dial and angle his head and ears however you’d like. You can keep Grogu outside the pram and let him hold the delicious Sorgan frog or two blue cookies. It also comes with the gear shift knob from the Razor Crest he can play with.

If you like going straight to the source for your sets, check out the official LEGO Store’s Black Friday plans. For more, check out the LEGO deals I expect to see for Black Friday. Spoilers: this deal is 100% a Black Friday-level deal. I wouldn’t expect this set to go any lower even on the big day itself.

Crystal Dynamics Lays Off 30 More Workers in Third Wave of Cuts This Year

Crystal Dynamics has laid off another 30 workers in a restructuring today, making this the third wave of layoffs this year.

This news was announced by Crystal Dynamics in a post on LinkedIn, in which the company stated it would "restructure the company and business for our next generation."

To our players - as the realities of the industry continue to evolve, we've made these painful choices as a way to optimize the continued development of our flagship Tomb Raider game, as well as shaping the rest of the studio to make new games for the future.

Crystal Dynamics previously laid off an unknown number of workers in August of this year following the cancellation of Perfect Dark by Xbox, which Crystal Dynamics had been supporting. It also laid off 17 people earlier in the year, and 10 others back in 2023 as a part of a massive restrcturing at parent company Embracer Group, which acquired Crystal in 2022. At the time of the acquisition, Crystal Dynamics had 273 employees across its Austin, Bellevue, and San Mateo offices. It's unclear how many employees it now has.

At the moment, Tomb Raider is the only known project in the works at Crystal Dynamics, with Amazon Games expected to publish. Earlier this year, it released Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, and last year remasters of the first three Tomb Raiders and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2. Its last wholly original project was Marvel's Avengers in 2020, which received lukewarm reviews.

IGN reached out to Crystal Dynamics for comment and more details on the cuts, but the company pointed us back to its LinkedIn statement with no further comment.

The Best Legend of Zelda Gifts for Fans of the Beloved Video Game Series

It's never a bad time to get into the Legend of Zelda. Nintendo's legendary action-adventure franchise has seen over 25 mainline games and a handful of great spinoffs, and if you own a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 and subscribe to their online service, you have access to just about every single Zelda title to date. But the green-clad Hero of Time transcends just video games, so we've put together a gift guide for that special Zelda fan in your life. From the video games and controllers, books to apparel, and even an amazing LEGO Deku Tree set, there's quite literally something for both new and old Legend of Zelda fans alike.

Top Legend of Zelda Gifts for 2025

If you're in the market for a video game gift for someone, all of the options below are excellent choices for any Zelda fan out there. And it never hurts to get something for yourself while you're at it.

Legend of Zelda Video Games

With the Nintendo Switch 2 now here and both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom receiving performance upgrades as launch games, you can still pick up two of the best games the original system still has to offer. Skyward Sword HD and the Link's Awakening remake are the best ways to revisit these older titles, while Echoes of Wisdom finally allows players to take control of Zelda. The first two Hyrule Warriors titles are incredibly fun action games, so be sure to check them out before picking up Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment on Nintendo Switch 2.

Legend of Zelda Controllers and Accessories

Now what if you already have all these Legend of Zelda games, what are you supposed to play them with to show your support of the franchise? Luckily there are tons of great Zelda-themed controllers and accessories to deck your system out with. From official Zelda Joy-Con (I have Skyward Sword HD set, they look incredible!) and pro controllers to third-party Nintendo Switch dock covers, you'll be sprucing up your game room setup in no time.

For more things like this without the Zelda theme, you can check out our guide to the best Switch accessories. There are not yet any Zelda-themed Switch 2 accessories available.

Legend of Zelda Encyclopedias

Legend of Zelda Manga

There are an impressive amount of Legend of Zelda manga and encyclopedias that look great on a shelf or coffee table. We put together a breakdown of all the Zelda books you should know about, like the wide breadth of manga covering the games from the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and even both Oracles of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. The encyclopedias are great collectibles for any Zelda fan, as they offer closer looks at the lore and history of Hyrule, complete with old concept art and sketches. There is even a deluxe edition available that looks like a retro NES cartridge if you're looking for a display book.

Amazon is currently running a buy 2, get 1 free promotion on books and most of these qualify, so this is a great opportunity to fill out your library.

Legend of Zelda Puzzles, Cards, and Board Games

There are tons of great jigsaw puzzles for adults, and the Legend of Zelda-themed puzzles are among our favorites. The 1.000-piece Hyrule map puzzle would look right at home framed over a fireplace once complete. You can also find a handful of classic board games with a Legend of Zelda skin, such as the Monopoly Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition or Legend of Zelda Uno. Also, be sure to have a look at the official Zelda playing cards (these are Japanese imports only!).

LEGO Great Deku Tree Set

Other Nintendo properties, like Super Mario and Animal Crossing, are no strangers to getting the LEGO treatment, and the massive Great Deku Tree set is one of the best LEGO has to offer. The over 2,500-piece set has a 2-in-1 modular function, allowing you to build either the Breath of the Wild or Ocarina of Time Great Deku Trees. It comes with four minifigures: Princess Zelda and three different versions of Link - Breath of the Wild's Link and both young and adult Link from Ocarina of Time. It also comes with detailed Master Sword and Hylian Shield pieces and a buildable Hestu figure.

LEGO and Nintendo recently announced a new partnership, teasing another Legend of Zelda LEGO set coming in 2026. You can watch the teaser trailer here. The short clip depicts the final battle of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time where Link and Zelda face off against Ganon, with a giant shadow looming over them both, so it's pretty easy to predict what this set will be. Regardless, this is a day one buy for me.

Legend of Zelda Amiibo and Action Figures

There are dozens upon dozens of available Nintendo Amiibo figures, and the Legend of Zelda characters make up a healthy chunk of them. You can scan these figures on your Nintendo Switch system to unlock different features in various Nintendo Games. Check out our breakdown of every Legend of Zelda Amiibo. You can also grab a couple of Legend of Zelda action figures from the IGN store, like super detailed Zelda and Ganondorf Figma action figures from Tears of the Kingdom.

Legend of Zelda Apparel

Also available on the IGN store are tons of great Legend of Zelda apparel items. T-shirts, hoodies, and crew necks all with sweet Legend of Zelda designs are available in various sizes. The designs vary from retro pixel art to stylized images of classic scenes from throughout the series' entire history. I'm a big fan of the Wind Waker stained glass crew neck, myself.

Legend of Zelda Replica Weapons, Drinkware, Vinyl Records

Everything listed here is just scratching the surface of the awesome collectibles and items you can get with a Legend of Zelda theme tacked onto it. On the IGN store, you can pick up a replica Master Sword and Hylian Shield, great for future cosplays or game room displays. I highly recommend the 2LP vinyl record set from iam8bit which includes a collection of the some of the series' best tracks. On Amazon, you can find an array of Zelda memorabilia like mugs, thermoses, and coasters. You can even buy a working ceramic ocarina!

Legend of Zelda Ornaments

Right in time for the winter holidays, the Legend of Zelda Hallmark keepsake ornaments are the perfect way to decorate your living space and Christmas trees with more legendary flair. The retro Link ornament even plays iconic music and sound effects at the push of a button.

Uncharted Synergy Sends a Previously Unloved MTG Card's Price Skyrocketing by 1200%

Magic: The Gathering is fully into its crossover era, and while the Avatar: The Last Airbender set isn’t far away, Secret Lair has seen Wizards of the Coast truly cut loose.

That means we’re getting some truly bizarre synergies, including one for Thieving Varmint. A ‘mana dork’ for cards that aren’t yours, we’re not sure anyone fits the idea of pilfering better than Nathan Drake from the PlayStation Secret Lair drop.

Nathan Drake, Treasure Hunter is a three-cost card which has 3/2 base stats and First strike.

It also has the uncanny ability to spend mana of any color to activate abilities of permanents on your battlefield that you don’t own, and cast spells from other players. It’s particularly handy, then, that Nate can also take cards from your opponents’ libraries.

In a game of Commander, you could be throwing around 2, 3, or 4 spells per turn using those that aren’t yours, so long as you have the mana, and that’s where Thieving Varmint comes in.

Thanks to this new synergy, Thieving Varmint has jumped to sit around $9.73 market price, which is a massive jump from its previous average at $0.70-$0.90 only a few months ago (according to data from TCGPlayer).

Featuring in Outlaws of Thunder Junction’s Commander Decks, Thieving Varmint is a 2/1 with Deathtouch and lifelink for two-cost, which is pretty useful, but you can tap it and pay a life to add two mana of any one color to cast spells you don’t own.

Get a board state going early on with your own lands and Thieving Varmint, and you can be using other players’ spells against them with reckless abandon.

As a reminder, Nathan Drake, Treasure Hunter is only found in the PlayStation Secret Lair drop, hence why he’s almost $30 on his own on the secondary market.

Lloyd Coombes is an experienced freelancer in tech, gaming and fitness seen at Polygon, Eurogamer, Macworld, TechRadar and many more. He's a big fan of Magic: The Gathering and other collectible card games, much to his wife's dismay.

Horizon Steel Frontiers Interview With NCSoft — Is Aloy in the Game? How Will It Work on PC? and What About Those Stylized Characters?

NCSoft and Sony surprised PlayStation fans this week by announcing a Horizon MMO that’s not actually coming to PlayStation. Horizon Steel Frontiers is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game designed for mobile devices, but it will also be playable on PC. NCSoft is working closely with original Horizon developer Guerrilla Games to craft the world, but this is very much an NCSoft-developed game. And based on the reveal trailer, below, it looks like it, too. Check out IGN’s Horizon Steel Frontiers trailer breakdown to find out what we could gather from the video.

It’s fair to say Horizon Steel Frontiers has sparked a debate among fans of Aloy’s adventures. While much of the game world looks familiar, there is much about Steel Frontiers that is different — including the look of the characters you can create and those you can bump into. Guerrilla’s Horizon games go for a realistic look, particularly when it comes to their characters. The developers have maintained this style throughout their Horizon games, starting with 2017’s breakout hit Zero Dawn through to VR game Call of the Mountain and Forbidden West expansion Burning Shores.

Steel Frontiers, developed by South Korean game company NCSoft (Lineage) not only with Guerrilla’s blessing but in close partnership with the team, is going for a stylized look for its characters, as can be seen clearly in the gameplay reveal trailer. But don’t expect “extreme cartoon-like features,” its developer has said.

In an exclusive interview with IGN following the reveal, Sunggu Lee, executive producer of Horizon Steel Frontiers at NCSoft, answered questions around character creation, gameplay, social features, Steel Frontiers’ place in the Horizon universe, the influence of Capcom's Monster Hunter, and perhaps the most important question of all: is Aloy in the game?

IGN: How did the partnership between Sony and NCSoft come to be, and how did the idea for Horizon Steel Frontiers come about?

Sunggu Lee: When I first played Horizon Zero Dawn back in 2017, I was blown away by the incredible graphics and gameplay. It made me think, “How amazing would it be to explore this world with other players?” That simple but powerful feeling — the desire to share a great single-player experience with others — is what sparked the idea for Horizon Steel Frontiers.

At NCSoft, we’ve always had a strong foundation in MMORPGs, and I believed that if we could bring the rich, captivating world of Horizon into that space, we could create something truly unique — an MMORPG unlike anything players have seen before. So, we started talking with Sony, the IP holder, and those conversations eventually led to the game we’re revealing today: Horizon Steel Frontiers.

IGN: In the announcement video, Guerrilla Games studio head Jan-Bart van Beek says Horizon Steel Frontiers was designed specifically for mobile. Can it also be played on PC, and how does the game take advantage of PC?

Sunggu Lee: For mobile, we streamlined the original console-based controls to make them more intuitive. To address the challenges of long-range aiming, we restructured combat to focus more on melee and introduced a smart lock-in system, so battles feel smooth and intuitive even on mobile. On PC, we take full advantage of the larger screen and precise controls, delivering deep, immersive experiences like large-scale raids and extended co-op missions.

Mobile offers quick, on-the-go session play, while PC provides a richer, more strategic combat experience — each platform playing to its strengths. We’re developing both versions to deliver top-tier quality and a true cross-platform experience, so players can team up and hunt together anytime, anywhere, without being limited by their device.

IGN: Which PC platforms will it be available on?

Sunggu Lee: As mentioned earlier, Horizon Steel Frontiers is being developed as a true cross-platform experience for both mobile and PC (PURPLE, which is NCSoft’s integrated game platform).

IGN: Are you using Guerrilla’s Decima engine? If not, how will gameplay feel different in Steel Frontiers?

Sunggu Lee: Horizon Steel Frontiers is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. The original Decima engine is incredible — it delivered stunning graphics and amazing asset quality that made Horizon so iconic. Bringing those high-quality resources over to Unreal Engine 5 was no small challenge.

We worked closely with Guerrilla to make sure we preserved the visual fidelity of the original, while creating gameplay that feels unique to Steel Frontiers. Leveraging Unreal Engine 5’s powerful graphics capabilities, we’re able to deliver breathtaking visuals and smooth multiplayer experiences across both mobile and PC (PURPLE).

IGN: From the way players team up to take down creatures, it looks like there’s a fair amount of Monster Hunter in Steel Frontiers. Is it fair to say this was an inspiration?

Sunggu Lee: Yes, that’s right — Monster Hunter was definitely one of the key inspirations for Steel Frontiers. When we started expanding Horizon’s core concept of hunting massive machines into a multiplayer experience, the cooperative hunting system from the Monster Hunter series felt like a natural reference point.

From the very beginning, combining Horizon’s rich world with the hunting-action genre just made sense. And when you add Horizon’s unique machine ecosystem, the part-breaking mechanics, and its deep storytelling, you get something that feels truly distinctive—an experience that’s uniquely Steel Frontiers.

IGN: How does the combat in this game differ compared to that in the Horizon games?

Sunggu Lee: Both games share the core idea of taking down massive machines by targeting and breaking parts to weaken them — but as you can see in the trailer, the combat itself is quite different. In the original, ranged combat with a bow is the foundation. Players slow down time to line up precise shots and match elemental attributes to machine weaknesses.

In Steel Frontiers, it’s all about managing distance and making quick decisions — when to attack and when to dodge. We’ve kept the tension and excitement of the original hunts, but redesigned the combat to deliver a fresh experience that’s optimized for multiplayer hunting action.

IGN: There’s a big sand snake-looking machine at 8:18 in the video. Can you tell us what they’re called and what they do?

Sunggu Lee: The machine you see at 8:18 in the trailer is the Rockbreaker. It’s one of the most memorable machines from the original game — known for moving freely underground and then bursting through the surface for sudden, devastating attacks.

In Steel Frontiers, we’ve kept that ambush style intact but added new patterns to fit a multiplayer environment. One example is a massive sandpit attack that threatens the entire team. Overcoming it requires tight coordination and role-based teamwork, which makes the fight even more intense and rewarding.

IGN: Are there player hubs, such as cities?

Sunggu Lee: Yes, absolutely. Steel Frontiers is set in the Deadlands, a vast region inspired by Arizona and New Mexico. Scattered across this landscape are multiple hub towns, which serve as the central gathering points for players.

These towns are where everything starts — you prepare for hunts, upgrade your gear, meet other players, and form parties. Each town has its own unique character and also acts as a gateway to nearby hunting zones. After every adventure, you’ll return to these hubs, making them the heart of the game’s social and gameplay experience.

IGN: What social aspects will the game have that let you interact with other players?

Sunggu Lee: In Steel Frontiers, towns and guilds are really the heart of the community. Towns act as central hubs where players gather, prepare for hunts, and naturally connect with others. Out in the field, you might team up spontaneously with players you meet, or join forces in planned, strategic co-op play to take down tougher machines.

These moments — whether unexpected or carefully coordinated — help strengthen bonds between players. And of course, we support all the core social features you’d expect from an MMORPG, like friends lists, chat, and party systems, so players can communicate and collaborate seamlessly.

IGN: How does Horizon Steel Frontiers fit within the overall Horizon timeline? Is it set within the same universe as the previous games? Does it take place before or after any events we’re already familiar with?

Sunggu Lee: Horizon Steel Frontiers takes place in the same universe as the original, but in a completely different region — the Deadlands. While Aloy and her allies are fighting for the fate of the world in the north, the southern Deadlands face a new threat. Players step into the role of machine hunters drawn to this dangerous frontier.

As an MMORPG, every player becomes the hero of their own story, shaping their journey in the Deadlands. It’s another adventure unfolding in the same world, parallel to the epic saga of the original game.

IGN: Is Aloy in the game at all, or any other familiar Horizon characters?

Sunggu Lee: We haven’t finalized whether characters from the original game will appear, so it’s too early to share any specific plans.

IGN: The characters shown off in the announcement video have what would be considered ‘pretty’ or ‘cute’ faces. Was there a conscious effort to let players create such characters, despite them not fitting tonally with what we’ve seen in previous Horizon video games from Guerrilla?

Sunggu Lee: We’re building a character customization system that lets players create the style they want — from realistic designs like the original game to the more stylized characters often preferred in Asian markets.

That said, because the original Horizon is based on realistic human proportions, we won’t support extreme cartoon-like features, such as oversized eyes or tiny chins. Our goal is to offer as much variety as possible within realistic features.

To be honest, we’re not quite at the level of stylization we’d like yet (laughs), but we’re making steady progress. By launch, we’re confident the customization options will satisfy both fans of the original and new players looking for creative freedom.

IGN: How many players can group together to take on a machine?

Sunggu Lee: In our announcement trailer, we showed a pre-alpha build of raid combat, but the exact scale hasn’t been finalized yet. Because Steel Frontiers is all about observing patterns and responding at the right moment, raids will involve fewer players compared to traditional MMOs. If the group is too large, individual roles can get diluted and the fight becomes chaotic.

Right now, we’re testing different group sizes, and the ideal number will vary depending on the machine type and difficulty. Our goal is to support everything from small parties to mid-sized raids, ensuring that every player feels their contribution matters.

IGN: Can you explain how tribes will compete with each other, and how you’re able to fight over resources? Will players have to pick a tribe to join? Will you compete to own areas of the world as territory?

Sunggu Lee: In Steel Frontiers, tribal conflict plays out very differently from the original. The Deadlands isn’t home to established tribes — it’s a frontier where hunters from all over gather in search of opportunity.

From a gameplay perspective, we’re focusing less on traditional MMO-style territory wars and more on cooperative structures built around hunting massive machines in the field. At its core, Steel Frontiers is a game where collaboration matters more than conflict. Machines like Slaughterspine or Thunderjaw are too powerful for a single group to take down, so players naturally come together.

That dynamic mix of competition and cooperation — shifting based on the situation — is what makes the Deadlands unique.

IGN: Is there PvP?

Sunggu Lee: Right now, we’re currently focused on the core content — PvE elements.

IGN: What are the aspects of the game that make it an RPG as well as an MMO?

Sunggu Lee: Steel Frontiers is an MMORPG that combines character progression with constant social interaction. Players start by hunting smaller machines, gradually mastering weapons and tuning gear to become true “machine hunters.” Along the way, you’ll team up with strangers in the field to take down a Slaughterspine, meet new partners in town squares, and build lasting connections that grow into guilds and communities.

Different players, each with their own growth stage and hunting style, come together in the Deadlands — sometimes cooperating, sometimes competing — to take on even greater challenges. With every season, new threats emerge and the community evolves. Steel Frontiers isn’t a game you play for just a few sessions — it’s a living world shaped by continuous character growth and an ever-changing community.

IGN: Can you tell us a bit about the partnership between NCSoft and Guerrilla, and how you’ve worked together on the project?

Sunggu Lee: Guerrilla and NCSoft have built a collaborative approach that really plays to each studio’s strengths. Guerrilla focuses on maintaining the consistency and integrity of the Horizon IP, providing continuous feedback to ensure asset quality and reviewing new machine designs and story elements to make sure they fit the world and preserve the original visual standards.

On our side at NCSoft, we’re focused on creating new gameplay experiences on top of that foundation — leveraging our expertise in cross-platform development for mobile and PC, MMO systems, and designing cooperative combat mechanics.

We hold regular conference calls and meet in person at key milestones for deep discussions. Honestly, coordinating across two global studios can be challenging at times, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. We’re learning so much from each other, and I truly believe that combining different perspectives and development cultures is leading to a better game.

IGN: Have you been able to design new creatures in the Horizon world? Has Guerrilla had to approve them?

Sunggu Lee: Every new machine design or variation goes through Guerrilla for review and approval. We work closely to ensure everything stays true to the Horizon universe while delivering gameplay that feels unique to Steel Frontiers. It’s an ongoing collaboration to create machines that fit both worlds.

Popular Manga Is Buy 2, Get 1 Free in Amazon's Early Black Friday Sale

We've officially entered Black Friday season, which seems to kick off earlier every year. Amazon has announced a spread of discounts to anticipate later in the month, but the retailer has already launched one of my personal favorite sales: a solid 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free' sale on books.

The sale includes an honestly ridiculous amount of books and comics, but there's also a solid selection of manga. While I wouldn’t recommend this sale for box sets or deluxe editions (unless you’re specifically looking for Berserk Deluxe Volume 5), it’s a great opportunity to pick up some of the latest and greatest shōnen releases. Beyond manga volumes, you’ll also find a surprising amount of anime-inspired cookbooks and artbooks that would make solid gifts over the holidays.

Amazon’s 3 for 2 Sale Includes Tons of Manga

Not technically a manga, but the Solo Leveling webtoon is currently being adapted into one of the most popular anime of all time, borrowing plenty of inspiration from the world of video games. The English collected volumes started getting published in print back in 2021, with the 14th and final volume coming out in December. The first three comic volumes are included in the sale, giving you the chance to grab one for free.

My Hero Academia is currently airing its final season, so it’s a better time than ever to check out Kōhei Horikoshi’s source material. Along similar lines, you can pick up individual volumes from Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Frieren: The Journey Beyond.

And, of course, no list of manga greats would be complete without the works of Akira Toriyama. While the sale includes scattered volumes of specifically Dragon Ball Super (no OGs, unfortunately), the standout for me, personally, is the full color editions of the Frieza arc from Dragon Ball Z.

Artbooks, Cookbooks, and Notebooks Are Also Eligible

The sale includes pretty much every genre in print, including DC and Marvel comics. If you’re as vulnerable to the appeal of franchised merchandise as I am, or are thinking ahead to buying holiday gifts for your weeb friends, it’s worth taking a look at some of the random artbooks and cookbooks. I’ve picked out some of the highlights, but because the sale list is so ridiculously long, I’d recommend searching for your favorite series and seeing what pops up.

What Manga Deals to Expect Over Black Friday

Amazon has never been afraid of cutting prices on manga, so it’s pretty much guaranteed we’ll see bigger discounts on individual releases. The '3 for 2' sale only really benefits you if there’s three things you really want, and if that’s not the case, I wouldn’t force it.

For example, I would hold off if you're in the market for any deluxe editions or box sets, as those will likely get bigger price cuts individually closer to the end of the month. I predict we’ll see upwards of 50% off some of the biggest releases, but recommend using a price-tracking tool like camelcamelcamel to make sure you’re actually getting an all-time-low price. I’d also keep an eye on retailers like Books-A-Million and the Crunchyroll Store for exclusive releases that can’t be price-matched by good ol’ Amazon.

The Liquid Cooled iBuypower Y40 Pro GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming PC Drops to $1,950 for Black Friday

As part of its early Black Friday sale, Best Buy currently has the best deal on an RTX 5080 equipped prebuilt gaming PC. Starting today, the iBuypower Y40 Pro gaming PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X processor and RTX 5080 graphics card is on sale for $1,949.99 shipped. An RTX 5080 gaming PC priced at under $2,000 is a rare find, and this particular model is generously equipped with liquid cooling and plenty of memory and storage.

iBuypower Y40 Pro RTX 5080 Gaming PC for $1,949.99

The iBuypower Y40 Pro is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X processor, GeForce RTX 5080 16GB graphics card, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 2TB PCIe Gen 4 M.2 SSD. The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X CPU has a max turbo frequency of 5.6GHz with 12 cores, 24 threads, and a 64MB L2 cache. In terms of gaming performance, this CPU is neck and neck with the Intel Core i7-14700K according to Passmark benchmarks. With a high clock speed and a decent number of cores, this is a great CPU for both gaming and productivity use and is a good complement to the RTX 5080 GPU.

The GeForce RTX 5080 GPU will run any game in 4K

Performance-wise, the RTX 5080 is no slouch. It's one of the fastest cards on the market, bested only by the $2,000 RTX 5090 and the discontinued $1,600 RTX 4090. This is a phenomenal card for playing the latest, most demanding games in 4K resolution at high settings and ray tracing enabled. The RTX 5080 supports DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation, which means you can push even more frames out of games that support the technology with minimal visual compromise. Recent games that support it include Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Borderlands 4, Stellar Blade, and Battlefield 6. Check out our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review for our hands-on impressions.

The Top 3 Features Open-World Action RPG Wuthering Waves Has Improved Since Launch

Open-world RPG Wuthering Waves first launched in May 2024, and it’s continuously evolved in the time since. It’s expanded its overworld map, introduced numerous optimizations, and refined its storytelling and gameplay. It’s in a very different state now than when it first came out.

If you haven’t experienced the game before, it’s a free-to-play action RPG from developer Kuro Games. It first released on Windows PC, Google Play PC, Epic Games Store, iOS, and Android before coming to Mac, Steam, and PS5 earlier this year with cross-progression across all platforms. And it’s been received well across those platforms. It has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with more than 26,000 reviews, and has 4.3 stars on Google Play and 4.5 stars on the App Store, both with hundreds of thousands of reviews.

Considering the number of additions and optimizations that have been brought to the game in its 18 months of existence, we figured now is a good time to go over the areas that have seen the greatest improvement.

Story and Performance

At launch in 2024, Wuthering Waves' narrative, presentation, and voice acting were not its strongest points. But beginning with Version 2.0, which led players into the nation of Rinascita, the storytelling and cinematics underwent a notable transformation.

Family intrigue and faith conflicts in Ragunna. Gladiatorial struggles and encroaching Dark Tide in the Septimont. The ensemble showdown of the climactic story chapters. Each update has carried a clear theme and built on those before it, without introducing complicated new concepts or terminology.

On top of that, the improvement in performance has been clear. The game has largely moved away from static, stand-and-talk dialogues, and introduced more diverse gameplay segments and more complicated camera work and character motion. For instance, Carlotta’s storyline features stealth and surprise attacks with dynamic camera shifts and memory flashbacks, while Galbrena’s storyline introduces first-person perspectives and time-switching gameplay sequences.

In Version 2.2, the main narrative weaves together environmental storytelling, map exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat cinematics over the course of roughly two hours. That all builds to a final boss battle, set to the track Wish to Wear Glory and Fall into the Abyss, and an ending cinematic that you can watch below.

Voice acting has also undergone significant changes. In the initial release, most characters spoke with standard American accents. Now, there are several different European-inspired accents represented, making the cast more eclectic.

Gameplay Optimizations

Guided by player feedback, the development team has now implemented over 450 optimizations since launch. The most noticeable improvements are in graphics. On high-end devices, the game now runs at a stable 120 FPS, with richer lighting and more layered visuals. Some of the new areas demand more from the hardware, but that comes with an increased level of detail. DLSS optimization and ray tracing support on PC further enhance the realism of lighting and materials throughout the world.

Immersion has also been a major focus of this year’s updates, with the team aiming to make the game world feel more alive and responsive. Streets are now busier, NPCs more numerous, and the environment subtly reacts to the player’s presence. Leaves rustle as you run past, and water ripples when you soar above its surface.

In terms of gameplay, the Echo system has received several updates: the Nightmare Nest allows players to earn Echoes without consuming Waveplates, Fantasies of the Thousand Gateways offer customizable Echo rewards, and the new Data Modify function allows flexible stat adjustments.

Localization quality has advanced significantly, too. After a year of continuous refinement, multilingual text and voice work have reached a new level of polish, and there are plans to support even more languages in the future.

Open World Exploration

Throughout 2025, the open world and exploration systems have expanded significantly. The new Rinascita region includes 16 new areas, each with its own unique ecosystem. Septimont is infused with Ancient Roman elements, while Ragunna draws inspiration from Venetian architecture. Both cities showcase distinct cultural atmospheres through their landscapes and design.

At the same time, the game introduced new mechanics to diversify exploration. One of the most notable examples is the “Avinoleum Theological Seminary,” which features a unique gravity-reversal system, allowing players to explore the entire map upside down.

Additionally, the new flight system has been one of this year’s most notable updates. After completing certain story missions, you can unlock the ability to fly. All you have to do is jump in the air and activate your wings to soar (which you can see in the video above). There’s no need to find specific takeoff or landing points; you can take flight anywhere, at any time, and freely explore the open world that spans over 100 square kilometers.

As you can see, Wuthering Waves has grown significantly since launch across the board. And that growth is sure to continue in the future with each new update. The preview livestream for Version 2.8 will begin on November 14 at 19:00 (UTC+8), and that’s your next chance to see what’s on the horizon. If you’d like to stay up to date on the latest info, you can follow the game on Instagram, X (Twitter), Facebook, YouTube, and Discord, or check out its official website.

Walmart Kicks Off Its First Black Friday Deals of 2025 Tonight

We’re not yet halfway through November, but the Black Friday sales have officially begun. Walmart’s Black Friday rollout is comprised of three events, with the first one running November 14 - 16. However, anyone with a Walmart+ membership gets early access to the sale starting at 7pm ET this evening, November 13. To further encourage customers to sign up, Walmart is currently offering 1-year Walmart+ memberships for half price. That means right now you can sign up for an annual subscription for $49 instead of the usual $98.

The discounted price for an annual subscription to Walmart+ is live now through Cyber Monday, meaning it ends on Tuesday, December 2.

Walmart Black Friday - Event One

As for what’s on sale during this opening Black Friday sale event, we have to turn to the official press release. Unlike some previous sales, Walmart is not currently offering a specific preview of the discounts before they go live. But the press release had some examples of the deals to expect:

  • 98” TCL QLED 4K Google TV – Was $1,798.00, Event Price $998.00
  • Cricut Explore 3 Bundle – Was $410.00, Event Price $197.99
  • Dreo 1500W Portable Space Heater – Was $99.99, Event Price $38.99
  • Dyson V12 Detect Slim Cordless Vacuum Cleaner – Was $729.00, Event Price $399.99
  • Ford 24V Ride-on – Was $599.99, Event Price $299.99

  • LEGO Speed Champions 2-pack – Was $44.98, Event Price $25.00
  • Melissa & Doug Chunky Puzzles – Was $13.99, Event Price $7.00
  • Men’s & Women’s Levi’s Signature Denim – Was $24.98, Event Price $15.00
  • My Texas House Glitter Trees (set of 3) – Was $159.66, Event Price $78.00
  • Philips Norelco 7200 Electric Razor – Was $99.96, Event Price $79.96
  • Sportspower Bounce Pro 14' Round Trampoline with Safety Enclosure – Was $229.00, Event Price $149.00

As for what else will be on sale, if previous sales are anything to go by, you can expect a little of everything to get the discount treatment, from gaming PCs and Apple products to housewares and outdoor equipment.

If you’re not ready to commit to a full year’s worth of a Walmart+ membership, you can sign up for a month for $12.95 and still get early access to Walmart’s first Black Friday sale event. That cuts the buy-in price by quite a bit – but it’s worth noting you won’t be able to get the half price annual subscription price if you decide to stick around after the month runs out.

Alternatively, you can start a free trial of Walmart+, but doing so does not get you early access to the sale. You’ll still get all the other benefits of a membership, but you’ll have to wait for the sale to open up to everyone to take advantage.

Benefits of a Walmart+ Membership

As stated above, a Walmart+ membership gets you early access to Black Friday sale events as well as other sales throughout the year. But it also gets you a bunch of other benefits. Here’s a rundown of some of the most notable:

  • Free shipping with no order minimum
  • Free delivery from local Walmart stores
  • Paramount+ or Peacock membership (can switch every 90 days)
  • Gas savings
  • Burger King savings

If you're open to shopping at other stores, you can check out the early Black Friday sales at Best Buy and Costco. And for readers, you can buy 2 books and get 1 free at Amazon.

Deals for Today: Sonic Game Sale On Nintendo Switch And Early PC Gaming Black Friday Deals

Well Sonic games are on sale for Nintendo Switch today, and they'll all play on Nintendo Switch 2 (and yes, it includes the good ones). Oh and my favorite Nintendo Switch 2 controller is in the early Black Friday deal club too. It's actually a great day for early Black Friday gaming deals, with a PlayStation 5 Pro for the same price as an Xbox Series X, a stacked RTX 5070Ti rig for under $2,100 and a gaming laptop that will do its job for under $650.

TL;DR: Deals for Today

You thought I forgot about peripherals and monitors didn't you? I've got epic deals on an ASUS ROG keyboard and mouse that will save you hundreds of dollars, and half off an OLED 1ms 260Hz curved LG monitor. Let's get straight into it:

Sofirn SP36 Pro 8,000-Lumen LED Flashlight for $28.99

It's smart to have a light source on hand for emergencies, especially since everyday carry flashlights can be had for a throwaway price. As part of its early Black Friday Sale, Aliexpress is offering an outstanding deal on the powerful yet compact Sofirn SP36 Pro 8,000-Lumen Rechargeable LED Flashlight, now just $28.99 after you apply $6 off coupon code "AEUS06". This exact flashlight sells for $70 on Amazon.

The Sofirn SP36 Pro is a compact EDC style flashlight, measuring just 5" in length and weighing about 10 ounces without the battery. The flashlight requires three 18650 Li-on batteries and fortunately they are included. The light array is comprised of four Luminus SST-40 LEDs. They combine for a maximum output of 8,000 lumens and a beam distance of up to 450 meters, which means that this little flashlight can illuminate an entire football field.

Sonic Nintendo Switch Sale

The best Sonic the Hedgehog games on Nintendo Switch are here, including Sonic Superstars, Mania and Frontiers. Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers come as a double bundle for $49.59, and Sonic Mania is bundled with Team Sonic Racing for just $23.64. Want to see how Sonic 4 shoudl have looked? Sonic Superstars will scratch that itch for $19.93.

Acer Nitro V Gaming Laptop

This is hands down one of the best early Black Friday deals I've seen for a budget gaming laptop. Granted it won't break any benchmarking records, but Nvidia RTX 4050 supports DLSS 3 (and 4 with a little Github know-how) giving you frame generation tech for under $650. Plus things like the M.2 SSD and RAM can be upgraded whenever you want, so I'm all in on this deal.

Corsair Vengeance i7500 Gaming PC

If you want high-powered DLSS4 goodness supported by a solid processor and 32GB of DDR5 RAM, this Corsair Vengeance pre-built gaming PC is a brilliant deal for under $2,100. Whilst it will do 4K gaming, this would make a far better 1440p rig with frames per second going way pass 60 on AAA games.

ASUS ROG Harpe Ace Extreme Wireless Esports Gaming Mouse

ASUS ROG Harpe is a great choice for anyone looking for a competent wireless gaming mouse for fast paced games like Fortnite, Valorant or other esports-heavy games. It's got a carbon fiber shell, a 70 hour battery, 42K DPI sensitivity and frictionless glass skates. This bad boy is fast, light and has wired, WiFi, and bluetooth connectivity so everyone is happy when it comes to input delay.

ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

I'm not sure why you'd need an OLED screen on a keyboard, but it's ridiculously cool. This is a 75% form factor which is perfect for gaming and gives more room for your twitchy mouse game. The ROG NX Storm clicky switches feel so good when playing and typing, it's a pretty great all-rounder. And of course it's wireless, supporting Bluetooth, WiFi, and standard USB 2.0. Even the gasket has two settings to change the feel of the buttons, which is all hidden behind a gorgeous aluminum frame.

LG 34GX90SA-W 34-inch Ultragear Curved Gaming Monitor

A 1ms response time 34-inch curved OLED gaming monitor at 51% off? Now that's an early Black Friday deal. It's got a lovely refresh rate of 240Hz with a 1440p resolution, which is the sweet spot for PC gaming right now. It also rocks Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync, so this screen has your back no matter which camp you've chosen.

8Bitdo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller for Switch/Switch 2

I've been using this controller for a couple of weeks now, and I haven't picked up my Switch Pro controller back up (even though I put an awesome see-though purple shell on it). That's saying something, but it's not surprising as 8Bitdo make some of the best third party controllers going. I needed to do a firmware update to get it working on Switch 2, but it's been smooth sailing since with near-clicky face buttons and ergonomics that feel just right.

Horizon Forbidden West Standard Edition - PlayStation 5

46% off for a PlayStation 5 gem, if you haven't played Forbidden West yet, this is a great time to jump in. We gave it a final score of 9.3, so if that doesn't warrant spending less than $40 on a AAA game I don't know what will.

PlayStation 5 Pro Console (Renewed)

We live in a reality where you can buy a PlayStation 5 Pro for nearly the same price as an Xbox Series X, let that sink in. Jokes aside, this is a renewed Amazon deal that comes with a 90-day limited warranty. That's plenty of time to check this console out and make sure everythings sound, which it will be. Everytime I've grabbed something renewed it's been in pretty much brand new condition, so why not treat yourself?

Sign Up for Walmart+ For MSRP Pokémon TCG

Want to make sure you get one of these on the day? Well the max buy limit is 5, and Walmart+ is half price until 2nd December, so it's the perfect time to get signed up and make sure you're ready for tommorow, 13th November at 4 pm PT / 7 pm ET (or five hours before for Walmart+ members). One thing's for sure, 8 booster packs for $24.99 is a great deal in this climate.

Xbox Early Black Friday Deals

These deals are Black Friday level bargains. $60 off an Elite Series 2 Core controller? Bargain. A cheeky 512GB of extra storage for $10 and change off? Believe it. Even if you don't have an Xbox, the Xbox Controller, Fire Stick and Game Pass Ultimate bundles are heavily discounted too.

PlayStation 5 Early Black Friday Deals

You can actually buy a PS5 Pro for around the same price as a standard Xbox Series X right now, let that sink in. Already got a PlayStation 5? Some of the best games on the console are marked down right now. Even newer releases such as Rise of the Ronin is down to $44.70. Don't miss out on these early Black Friday deals.

Electric Scooter Deals Starting at $109

Scooters have some major advantages over bikes. They're lighter, more compact, and usually less expensive. Electric assisted scooters give you more range and speed for less effort, and the brushless motor is pretty quiet. You'd think upgrading to one would cost you a lot of money, but that doesn't have to be the case. AliExpress is offering a couple of well-regarded electric scooters at prices you probably didn't expect.

You can pick up a LADPED LP80 350W electric scooter for just $127 with coupon code "AEUS26". Alternatively, the LADPED LP60 350W electric scooter, which has a smaller battery, is $109.53 after code "AEUS20". Both scooters ship free from a local US warehouse; since they've already been shipped from overseas, any tariffs have already been paid for and you don't need to worry about them. AliExpress marketplace vendor AOVOPRO is an authorized reseller of these scooters and has plenty of reviews and sales to back up its reputation.

60% off Samsung S90D 65" and 77"

144hz refresh rate screams gaming TV to me, especially when it's on a quantum dot OLED screen. That 144hz refresh rate is supported on all four of its HDMI 2.1 ports, which is insane. There's no worries about getting the best performance from your Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and even gaming PCs.

MSI Vector HX 16" AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Laptop

With a processor that's built for performance and outperforms Intel Core i9-1400HX, we're off to a good start with this RTX 5070Ti gaming laptop. 32GB DDR5 Ram is higher end too, clocked at 6400MHz and has a tidy 1TB M.2 SSD, both of which can be upgraded at anytime. Topping this build with a 240Hz QHD screen and you're laughing at this price point.

Samsung P9 512GB MicroSD Express Card

Whilst this is one of the cheaper options for a Switch 2 Micro SD Express card, there's cheaper. The problem is with cheaper cards is the lower transfer speeds, which add up on more demanding games. Getting a Samsung P9 ensures 800MB/s, with Samsung having a great reputation for storage products in general.

ASRock Steel Legend Radeon RX 9070 XT

Want something that performs around the same as a RTX 5070Ti without the price tag to go with it? AMD is slowly clawing back its GPU market share by targeting mid-range gamers, but the RX 9070 XT is a brilliant graphics card. Whilst I can run something like Oblivion Remastered at 4K 60FPS all day long on it, I get a lot more joy from it playing at 1440P and getting twice the frame rate instead. This is well worth the money if you're in the market for a new GPU.

iBuypower Y40 Pro RTX 5080 Gaming PC

RTX 5080 has claimed it place as the sweet spot on the Nvidia 5000 series GPU lineup. It'll play anything in 4K with dedicated ray tracing support, and has DLSS4 technology to insert AI frames and resolution upgrades to fall back on. Ryzen 9 7900X is also a solid processor to back up the 5080, with a max turbo of 5.6GHz and rocking 12 cores, 24 threads and 64mb of L2 cache. Long story short? It's a cracking rig for under $2,000.

Up To 50% off Pokémon TCG

You might want to check if your AMEX and Discovery is eligible for up to 50% off Pokémon TCG on Amazon right now. All you have to do is add a sealed product to your basket sold directly by Amazon, use your AMEX or Discovery and pay either $1 or use 1 loyalty point to apply the discount. You could also be extra savvy and get a $60 Amazon gift card by being accepted for an Amazon Store Card. Of course, none of this is financial advice, and if you're going to struggle not spending on credit and store cards, make the right choice.

Audible Premium Plus

Nice and simple, sign up for a zero commitment Audible Premium Plus sub and get your first 3 months for $0.99 a month. That's 3 months of top tier access for under $3, it's worth doing just to try the service out!

Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 5080 Gaming PCs

Here's two 4K gaming beasts that will stay that way for a long time. If you're just focused on having a RTX 5080 for now with a view to upgrade in the future, go for the $2,099.99 build. If you can stretch the extra $650, you're getting a far better processor, double the DDR5 RAM and double the M.2 SSD space. Either way, you win with a cheeky 14% off.

LG Evo C5 4K TV Bundle Deal

Need a beast of a TV that can handle proper gaming performance and the Thanksgiving football game in style? 77" should do the job, and this is LG's C5 4K 2025 model that's half-price. You'll also save over $300 snagging the S40T Soundbar and Subwoofer combo alongside a slim wall mount. This is one of the best early Black Friday deals.

Samsung S84F 4K OLED Smart TV

At 53% off, this 2025 model Samsung TV is a bargain thanks to its 4K OLED panel with all the bells and whistles you'd come to expect from one of the biggest TV manufacturers.

Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Console Bundle

Who wants a Nintendo Switch 2 for less than MSRP? Yeah, it's a silly question, right? These consoles are brand new, just from a different region and work exactly the same as a US model. They're region-free and AliExpress has a massive discount code to bring this deal home.

Dan Aykroyd Confirms His 1995 Casper Cameo as Ray Stantz Is, In Fact, Ghostbusters Canon

Setting the ghostbusting record straight, once and for all, is comedy legend Dan Aykroyd, who playfully confirmed that his appearance as Ghostbusters character Ray Stantz in 1995 film Casper is, in fact, canon to the world of Ivan Reitman’s 1984 classic.

“I think so,” Aykroyd said when asked if the moment was canonical during a recent interview with the Talking Strange podcast. “Given the fact that Spielberg asked for me and said, ‘Come and do this,’ and that they built me in there. Of course, it’s a beautiful nod to what we were doing with Ivan [Reitman] and everybody. I think you’ve got to include it there in the canon. No doubt.”

Just dawned on me the first movie I saw one of the Ghostbusters was a cameo in the freaking Casper movie. 🤣 pic.twitter.com/yDstdj4j2d

— CJ 🦋 (@phatseejay) September 30, 2025

Fans — myself included — can breathe a sigh of relief now, knowing that Stantz did, in fact, try to bust the friendliest ghost of all, but didn’t, of course, succeed.

For those of you who don’t remember the hilarious cameo, it goes a little something like this. Casper centers on a home called Whipstaff Manor, which is home to Casper and his three mean uncle ghosts. The house is left to a mean woman named Carrigan Crittenden, played by Cathy Moriarty, who learns that there is some kind of valuable treasure hidden somewhere in the old property — however, she has to get Casper and his uncles out of the home first. So she enlists a few folks to help her out, namely ghost therapist Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman), but before he comes along with his daughter Kat (Christina Ricci), Ray Stantz gives it a try.

The ghostbuster, who dons an all-new mustache in the cameo, enters the building and quickly exits, but not before saying, “Who ya gonna call? Someone else.”

Aykroyd is one of the four iconic Ghostbusters, which also includes Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Harold Remis as Egon Spengler, and Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore. Casper stars Pullman, Moriarty, Ricci, and Devon Sawa voicing the title role (and cameoing in the final act).

Ghostbusters is currently available to stream for free on The Roku Channel, and Casper can currently be found to stream via Netflix.

Keeper - Movie Review

Keeper will be released in theaters on November 14.

Osgood Perkins has had a very busy year. Just weeks ago, he started production on his next film, The Young People, after kicking January off strong with The Monkey, one of my favorite films of 2025. Perkins is so busy that he’s making movies while he’s making other movies: Keeper, the latest of Perkins’ “dark trips” and a tale of new love gone wrong, was shot during a production break on The Monkey forced by the 2023 actors’ strike under an interim agreement with SAG-AFTRA. A movie having an accelerated development and production process doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll have major issues (2004’s Saw was shot in 18 days), but the risk sure does go up. With Keeper feeling like a slow-burn that never gets cooking, that seems to have been at least partially the case here.

Keeper follows young artist Liz (Tatiana Maslany) and her doctor boyfriend Malcolm Westbridge (Rossif Sutherland) as they travel to Malcolm’s family cabin to celebrate their one year anniversary. From the jump Perkins and writer Nick Lepard (Dangerous Animals) dole out very little information about Liz and Malcolm’s courtship, and not much more as the story goes, so we’re left to rely largely on the behavioral cues of Maslany and Sutherland’s performances to deduce why they’re together in the first place and, more importantly as the story goes, why Liz is willing to rationalize Malcolm’s bizarre behavior. Maslany, for her part, does admirable work trying to keep this thing on the rails, turning in a fully committed and emotionally exhaustive performance that almost single-handedly keeps the movie from becoming totally unmoored. The technical aspects of Maslany’s performance, especially the authenticity of her simmering and spiraling emotions as the story goes, well outpace the logic and reasoning being foisted upon her by Lepard’s script.

In its worst moments, Keeper feels like the kind of movie people talk about when they bemoan the self-seriousness of “prestige horror.”

The vast majority of Keeper’s problems are on the page. Lepard’s script closely follows the movements of horror movies with similar settings/setups (Gerald’s Game, Companion, and Midsommar all immediately come to mind), but with little specificity to Liz’s circumstances or novel commentary on agency in relationships. Liz is constantly stranded making choices or ignoring warning signs which betray her strength and resourcefulness that both Perkins and Lepard seem to be trying to highlight. Liz is sharp as a tack, noticing almost every red flag that flies, and Maslany doesn’t let any of it go by without throwing in some physical or vocal reaction that grounds the action in some emotional reality, but the momentum of Keeper’s storytelling has little room to let that cleverness really shine. In its worst moments, Keeper feels like the kind of movie people talk about when they bemoan the self-seriousness of “prestige horror”, which is shocking given the one-two punch of Longlegs and The Monkey that Perkins is coming off of here.

As the guy Liz would risk it all for, Rossif Sutherland is critically miscast as Malcolm and ends up actively detracting from what Maslany’s bringing to the table. Keeper positions the degree to which Malcolm is aware of or complicit in the strange goings-on in the cabin as a source of tension to be escalated as the story goes. But Sutherland - with his gravelly voice, distant manner, and imposing frame - leaves the viewer very little reason to believe Malcolm has Liz’s best interests at heart, starting early on with his being willing to turn down her advances… until she eats a piece of chocolate cake, even after she tells him she doesn’t like chocolate. Malcolm is almost cartoonishly detached and disrespectful of Liz’s boundaries, and that dynamic strands Keeper with two equally unattractive choices: either reveal Malcolm’s offputting behavior as genuine and have all of that abject creepiness feel completely devoid of dimension, or pull the rug and reveal that he’s an innocent in all this, despite the abject creepiness.

As an exploration of agency in relationships, Keeper’s largely a two-hander, but Malcom’s cousin and neighbor Darren (Birkett Turton) drops by a couple times with Minka (Eden Weiss), an Eastern European escort who’s also up in the woods with a Westbridge boy for a weekend getaway. That out-of-whack balance between the performers of the central relationship repeats here in the supporting one: Birkett Turton’s Darren is a coked-out drag whose valley boy vocal fry wears thin immediately, and while Minka’s characterization is as razor-thin as you’d fear, Eden Weiss lands a couple big laughs with her open disdain towards her weekend getaway with “dollar store Ellis from Die Hard.”

Keeper’s shaky foundation ends up squandering its stronger elements, namely Maslany’s performance and the strong production design, each of which evoke tranquility and danger in equal measure. Single-location horror movies really need that location to be both visually interesting and functional, and the Westbridge cabin is a delight of sightlines and interesting architecture for Perkins and director of photography Jeremy Cox to explore. Perkins uses the bold geometry of the rooms to box Maslany within the frame in times of attack, and the huge windows that make up most of the cabin’s walls to hint at danger lurking in the trees. The dark corners inside give Perkins pools of darkness to draw attention to, mounting some nice dread at times, but outside of one or two effective jump scares, Keeper rarely pays off its atmosphere or building tension to particularly horrifying ends. Perkins does deploy some nice surrealistic editing choices, frequently crossfading images over each other in dreamy montage as Maslany becomes enthralled by the power inside the cabin, and isn’t afraid to go big at times with well-done creature and makeup effects in the film’s second half, either. But by the time Maslany’s in the thick of it all, Keeper feels lost in the dark, stumbling towards a conclusion that felt like a forgone conclusion from the opening images of the film, a brief montage that through imagery alone conveys nearly the entirety of the thematic depth that's to follow.

From romantasies and fantasies to horror, a spot of sci-fi, and a new Jack Reacher novel, we’ve got you covered, whatever you’re in the mood for. Missed October’s roundup, or want to see more of my bookish recommendations? You’ll find them right here.

I've also found a brilliant 3 for 2 deal at Amazon that includes some of my top picks for the month, alongside a brilliant new Audible deal that you may find hard to resist.

Brimstone by Callie Hart

Release date: November 18

You might remember that we included the stunning hardback release of Callie Hart’s record-breaking book Quicksilver in our roundup of the best new books of August 2025, and for those of us who have been counting down the days until its sequel, Brimstone finally hits shelves midway through this month.

Picking up after the events of the first book, Saeris quickly discovers that a monarch’s life is not her own after being crowned the queen of the Blood Court. And with a darkness falling across Yvelia, the entire realm is in danger. Frustratingly, her new powers have also weakened her, so Saeris will surely die if she makes her way home through the Quicksilver. Which means, once again, she must send someone else in her place. How will Kingfisher and his travel companion, Carrion Swift, fare? And will they be able to save their friends? You’ll have to pick up a copy to find out.

Brigands & Breadknives by Travis Baldree

Release date: November 11 (US) - November 13 (UK)

If, like us, you haven’t been able to get enough of Travis Baldree’s Legends & Lattes series, book three reunites us with foul-mouthed bookseller Fern. Despite being used to the ups and downs of a bookseller’s life, she finds herself wanting more. Surely a change of scenery and a fun renovation montage when she gets there will shake things up? Well, things aren’t quite that simple, as you might expect.

After feeling particularly sorry for herself and getting rather drunk, she wakes up in the back of a wagon, which just so happens to belong to a legendary elf warrior who is transporting a goblin for a bounty. Even though she manages to convince the warrior to let her tag along for the journey, it turns out that quite a few people – some of whom are pretty nefarious – want the goblin and the large bounty that she represents too. As they take the journey, Fern starts to discover who she is away from the pressures and perceived idyllic life of being a bookseller, as well as what she really wants to do.

Bookish Deal Alert: 3 for 2 at Amazon

Here's a great deal to take note of in the build up to the Black Friday sales. Two of our picks from the best books for November are included its latest "3 for 2" promotion. If you're not familiar, it's essentially just a buy 2, get 1 free sale.

Both Brigands & Breadknives, by Travis Baldree, and The Merge, by Grace Walker, are included in the deal, which means you could get both, and then an extra book at no extra cost.

There's a massive list of other books eligible and all you need to do is place any three in your cart and the price of the cheapest one will be discounted at checkout. To make the most of the sale, you'll want to buy three things that are all similar in price. You can also buy multiples and still receive the discount.

The Merge by Grace Walker

Release date: November 6 (UK) - November 11 (US)

What if there was a way to save your loved one from pain and suffering? Well, Grace Walker’s debut novel posits that exact question. With her mother’s mind and memories starting to fade due to Alzheimer’s, Amelia signs them both up to take part in the world’s

first experimental merging process for Alzheimer’s patients. It will see her mother’s ailing mind be transferred into Amelia’s healthy body and their consciousness blended as one. I mean, what could go wrong?

They soon join a group of other partners participating in the merge. There’s teenage Lucas who plans to merge with his terminally ill brother Noah, Ben who will merge with his pregnant fiancée Annie, and Jay, whose merging partner is his unwilling addict daughter Lara. But as they prepare to move to the luxurious rehab centre for those who have undergone the process, they quickly begin to question what is going on and if everything is really as it seems. We love the sound of this one.

Exit Strategy: A Reacher Novel by Lee Child and Andrew Child

Release date: November 4 (UK) - November 11 (US)

Fans of the Reacher books – as well as the hit Amazon Prime TV show of the same name – will no doubt be thrilled to know that there’s a new story dropping this month. And even though it’s the 30th book in the series, it’s still as thrilling and captivating as ever.

Jack Reacher will make three separate stops today, however, they weren’t all planned. He starts his day, like many of us might, in a coffee shop. He takes a seat in the corner, facing the door and other than a minor interruption from two of the customers, there’s nothing of note. That’s until a young man brushes up against him in the doorway as he goes to leave. Instinctively Reacher checks his pocket, but nothing is missing. Next on his list of errands, buying a new coat. Yet when he pulls out his cash to pay for it, he finds something new in his pocket. A handwritten note with a desperate plea for help. Impressed by their technique and intrigued by the message, Reacher makes it his mission to find out exactly what’s going on.

Fallen Stars by Imani Erriu

Release date: November 25 (US) - November 27 (UK)

The follow-up to one of last year’s buzziest romantasy books, Heavenly Bodies, Fallen Stars opens with Elara’s beloved, Enzo, in a deep sleep. He’s perilously trapped somewhere between the planes of life and death. Not only that, but her enemy has vanished, taking Enzo’s only connection to the waking world with him.

In her quest to awaken him she must seek help from friends old and new, including the Titans, a league of gods who ruled the world long before the Stars. However, it soon becomes clear that there is a darker power at play, one that even the King of the Stars, Ariete, is afraid of. As she struggles to find a way to waken her soulmate, there’s one thing for sure, every Star will fall before she is finished.

What follows is a story that spans decades and continents, as Magnolia shows Izzy that life’s unexpected paths and choices can often lead you to exactly who and where you’re meant to be.

The Place Where They Buried Your Heart by Christina Henry

Release date: November 4

Just because Halloween is over for another year doesn’t mean that you have to forgo all things horror, and Christina Henry’s The Place Where They Buried Your Heart is a haunted house story like no other. We’ve all probably heard an urban legend, or two, when it comes to an abandoned house. But the old McIntyre place has a much more sinister history, and not just because it was the place where a father murdered his entire family and himself.

After Jessie dared her little brother Paul to go inside the ominous house, he never returned and his two friends, Jake and Richie – who he brought along with him – say that the house ate him. And with Jake emerging with his arm literally torn off, could the house actually be alive and an entity of its own? As Jessie grows up and finds herself unable to leave the street, Paul’s disappearance isn’t the only mystery to blight the house and she and her neighbours start to realise that a darkness is spreading from the house and there might not be a way to stop it. I just finished reading this and it had me hooked the whole way through.

The Same Backward as Forward by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Release date: November 6

Whether you’re already a fan of Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ The Inheritance Games, or not, the entire concept of the sixth book in the hit YA series, The Same Backward as Forward, will no doubt pull you in. Allowing you to read Hannah Rooney’s side of the story before literally flipping the book over to experience Tobias Hawthorne II’s, you can actually read it backwards or forwards depending on your personal preference. There is no right or wrong way to enjoy the unique layout

As for the story, Hannah’s managed to keep her head down and avoid the dodgy dealings of her notorious crime family, while Tobias acts exactly like the entitled heir – to one of the country’s richest men – that he is. That is until one tragic night, when their lives become entwined. When a fire on Hawthorne Island kills her sister and Toby barely survives, Hannah is enlisted to help after Toby is pulled from the ocean by a fisherman. But given her loss, she is determined to deny Toby's death wish by keeping him alive. He’s the last person she should ever develop feelings for, but things don’t turn out that way.

I, Medusa by Ayana Gray

Release date: November 18 (US) - November 20 (UK)

We’ve had some great Greek mythology retellings this year – from Hekate by Nikita Gill to Aphrodite by Phoenicia Rogerson – and I, Medusa, focuses on, as you might be able

to tell from the title, one of the legends’ most famous figures. Often reduced to a footnote in someone else’s story, Meddy finds herself feeling like an outcast in her own family. So, when she catches the eye of the goddess Athena, who invites her to train as an esteemed priestess in her temple, Meddy leaps at the chance to see the world and what else is out there. And she begins to flourish in her role as Athena's favoured acolyte

However, when she is noticed by Poseidon a drunken night between the two of them ends in violence, as does Meddy’s promising future. With her locs turned into snakes as punishment for a crime that she did not commit, Medusa must learn to embrace a new identity. This time she won’t allow herself to become a victim, instead choosing to reclaim her own story as a mortal, martyr and myth.

Walmart's Pokémon TCG Black Friday Drops Start Today, Here's What's Up for Grabs

Heads up, Pokémon TCG collectors, as another hot limited-time drop is hitting Walmart as part of its early Black Friday sales (that are starting today!)

Whilst it's going to be hell catching these deals, paid Walmart+ members will get five hours of early access; music to the ears of any fellow Pokémon trainers, I'm sure.

So what's up for grabs? From Nov. 13, 4 pm PT / 7 pm ET, Walmart will open the floodgates for three Pokémon TCG Special Collection boxes for Walmart+ members.

Outside of preordering new sets, it's next to impossible to find Pokémon TCG products like these at market value, never mind MSRP, so this deal isn't to be missed and is well worth getting a Walmart+ membership for.

Selling for $24.99, at MSRP, each box contains eight booster packs and features three foil promo cards that differ depending on the set you pick up: Snorlax ex + Blissey ex, Greninja ex + Kinggra ex, or Incineroar ex + Torterra ex.

If you're not already a member, it’s admittedly a slight drag that you’ll essentially have to add the membership cost onto the price to pick this up and avoid the eye-waterlingly high resale prices, but needs must.

It's $12.95 per month, or you can opt for an annual membership which is half off right now, and down to $49, previously $98. That's not a bad deal at all, and includes a whole lot more than just early access to Pokémon cards. So make sure to get that boxed off and logged in ASAP to avoid missing out on this top Black Friday deal.

Best Pokémon Cards To Chase From These Sets

Whilst I wish you all the luck in the world, the chances of pulling top chase cards from these boosters is ridiculously difficult.

If you're like me and don't have the money to spend on endless sealed product, you'll likely savew money in the long run just buying your chase cards instead.

Here's the top five you could pull from these boxes, complete with where to buy links and up-to-date market value information.
