Corsair Frame 5000D Revisit… with Smoke!

Our review of the Corsair Frame 5000D showed it to be a good case that offered a number of interesting features, however it also left a few unanswered questions. Top of the list was whether we mucked up our installation of the 420mm AIO cooler but we also had to address the big question; exactly how much RGB lighting can the Frame 5000D accommodate?

Time stamps

00:00 Start
01:22 Fixing some things
01:48 Looking at the airflow (50% 800rpm)
02:32 75% 1200rpm
03:11 100% 1700rpm
03:41 75% (removed filters)
04:12 Adding floor fans
04:41 Some more changes and additions
05:54 Leo’s thoughts

When we recently reviewed the Corsair Frame 5000D HERE we had our reservations about the installation of the cooling system, and we also wanted to dig deeper to visualise the airflow inside this case and its support for up to 12x 140mm fans. This gave us good reason to take a second look at the Frame 5000D, which started at the very moment we posted our review.

As you will see in our video, once we had installed the Corsair 420mm AIO cooler the correct way round we then tried some different fan configurations. We started with the stock configuration of four 140mm case fans with three 140mm fans on the AIO  cooler. After that we removed the filters in the front and side, partly to remove obstructions, but mainly to improve the lightshow in our video. After that we installed two Corsair RX140 RGB fans in the floor of the case. Our final step was to replace the stock RS140 fans in the front of the case with RX140 RGB fans, open up the side ventilation in the case and then install two more RX140 RGB fans in that location.

KitGuru says: Enjoy our smoke-filled video and please leave a comment on YouTube if you spot anything interesting.

Sea of Thieves to get custom and private servers

While most live-service games push back on the idea of custom servers, there have been success cases in the past. Fallout 76 for instance has a very popular private server option. Now, Rare is bringing custom server functionality to Sea of Thieves, allowing sailors to spin up a new server with the ability to make changes to in-game behaviour to best fit your group.

Rare Studios is showing off exactly how to handle the ‘winding down' phase of a live service game with Sea of Thieves. In a new announcement, Rare revealed its plans to allow players to host their own custom servers, a move that comes at the perfect time, as new content development begins to wind down to put more resources towards other projects.

In a Community Direct hosted this week, Rare confirmed that Sea of Thieves will soon get a ‘Custom Seas' mode. This will essentially be a custom server browser, allowing you to join hosted servers with custom settings.

This move will also address one of the biggest complaints newcomers have when jumping into Sea of Thieves for the first time. The game is not exactly friendly for solo players, as there is always the risk of running into a squad of blood-thirsty pirates. With the addition of custom servers, solo players can jump into their own private world or start up a server for a group of friends, doing away with the trials and tribulations of random matchmaking.

Fallout 76 has a similar system in place, but with far less control over the world. In Sea of Thieves, custom servers will be able to make changes to squad size, allowing for massive 16-player pirate crews. You can also adjust weather behaviour, spawn in extra items and more.

Unfortunately, Custom Seas will rely on its own server hosting technology, so while players will be able to start up their own servers, they won't be able to run it off of their own hardware, you'll have to pay Rare for one of their servers instead. Pricing for that has not yet been announced.

KitGuru Says: Custom Seas sounds great but I do wish we could have the option to host servers on our own hardware. It is something I certainly took for granted back in my early days of Counter-Strike Source and Garry's Mod, and it is something sorely missing from the multiplayer gaming market nowadays.

Ghost of Yotei State of Play reveals new mechanics, bigger open world

Sony's State of Play returned last night with a new deep-dive into this year's big PS5 exclusive, Ghost of Yotei. The game looks promising so far, but it is noticeably different to the structure of the previous game, Ghost of Tsushima.

While Ghost of Tsushima had flashbacks to Jin Sakai's backstory sprinkled throughout the main campaign, Ghost of Yotei will handle things differently. The game will have a new system that allows players to explore the past of new protagonist, Atsu. You can jump into past memories at any time to get a deeper insight into Atsu's emotions and motivation as you slash your way across Hokkaido in search of those responsible for killing her family. This being a separate mechanic means that the game's main campaign is going to be heavily focused on present events, with minimal flashback scenes.

The gameplay deep-dive also revealed some changes to exploration. This one had me a little concerned, as Ghost of Tsushima largely succeeds due to its open world design. However, not much is changing on that front in Ghost of Yotei, but the names of certain things have changed.

In Ghost of Tsushima, you had a few different kinds of collectibles sprinkled throughout the map, including Hot Springs, Shrines, Fox Dens and more. In Ghost of Yotei, players will be finding Altars of Reflection, instead of Shrines, to obtain extra skill points. Players will also have access to a Spy Glass that can be used to pinpoint new areas of the map to explore. Atsu can also set up camps, cook and play music.

Combat has also seen some changes. While Jin Sakai was a Samurai who had to learn Ninjutsu skills to survive the Mongolian invasion, Atsu is neither a Ninja or a Samurai. As a result, you get a whole new playbook of combat moves and access to a wider range of weapons, including dual-swords, spears and more.

Ghost of Yotei is releasing on October 2nd for PS5. a PC version has not yet been announced.

KitGuru Says: I'm looking forward to Ghost of Yotei, but one of the things I loved about Tsushima was the streamlined open world. I hope that isn't lost in the sequel, as Yotei looks to be going for a much bigger scale of world.

Resident Evil Survival Unit gameplay showcased

Following on from the recent Resident Evil Requiem reveal, Capcom has now showcased Resident Evil Survival Unit, a new strategy game featuring a large roster of iconic characters.

Resident Evil Survival Unit presents a new take on the horror franchise. Survival Unit is a strategy game, developed by Joycity and Aniplex, in collaboration with Capcom and Kingdom Hearts co-creator, Shinji Hashimoto. In a livestream last night, the game was fully revealed, and it is already being described as a “dream come true” for Resident Evil fans:

Resident Evil Survival Unit will feature a large roster of iconic characters from across the main RE games and the spin-offs. Players will spawn on to an appropriately thematic map with iconic locations like The Mansion and the RPD station. You can level up your squad with new skills and your chosen Squad Leader will get an additional ability that will impact the whole party.

Like in traditional Resident Evil titles, in Survival Unit, you will pick up mysterious items and solve puzzles to unlock new areas. When it comes to combat, it is like a much smaller version of XCOM, perhaps more akin to the combat system in South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

It looks quite fun, but it is a mobile game, so expect microtransactions. The restrictions of a smaller mobile display also means that the maps are quite compact. If it does well though, then perhaps one day we'll get a full-sized strategy game with bigger maps and more controllable characters.

KitGuru Says: There is no release date just yet but the game is up for ‘pre-registration' on Google Play and the iOS App Store.

Nintendo Switch Game Voucher program is being discontinued

While Nintendo games rarely go on sale, the Switch maker introduced a program during its previous generation which allowed you to obtain two game ‘vouchers’ for a reduced cost. Unfortunately, with the Switch 2 now available and out in the wild, Nintendo has announced that it is discontinuing the service.

Making the announcement on their support site, Nintendo offered fans an update on its Game Voucher program, writing: “As of 11:59 PM Pacific Time January 30, 2026, it will no longer be possible to purchase Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. Any vouchers you purchase on or before that date will work exactly as they currently do—unused vouchers expire 12 months after the date of purchase.”

The full FAQ can be found HERE, however there isn’t much to say beyond the above statement.

Nintendo Switch

For the uninitiated, ‘Switch Game Vouchers’ was a system which allowed you to buy any two digital Nintendo titles from a broad list of first-party offerings using these vouchers. Though far from the biggest discount, for $99 you could ‘purchase’ The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Mario Bros. Wonder for example – saving you $30 compared to buying them separately.

Ultimately, with Switch 2 titles now pushing past the $80 mark, it makes sense that Nintendo would be winding down the service. That said, you’ll now have to rely on the eShop’s extremely rare first-party sales for any digital deals.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this announcement? Was it inevitable? Would you have used vouchers for Switch 2 games if its price was increased to $120? Let us know down below.

Hell is Us has gone Gold

Hell is Us has been a long time coming, with the 3rd-person melee-focused action-adventure title first being announced back in 2022 with a 2023 release year. Following a lengthy delay, the Nacon-published title was re-revealed last year alongside a September 2025 release date. Thanks to the extra dev time, the team at Rogue Factor have managed to finish the game well ahead of its (renewed) schedule – as Hell is Us has now officially gone Gold.

Making the announcement on their Steam page, the team at Rogue Factor wrote: “After years of work, countless creative decisions, and a lot of passion poured into the game… Hell is Us has officially gone gold.”

For the uninitiated, ‘Going Gold’ means that the ‘Hell is Us’ master disc has been submitted to the game’s publisher. After this, discs can then be pressed with finalised software and digital storefronts can upload the 1.0 version of the game ready for release.

Hell is Us Gold

It’s a process that every game in development goes through, and means that (aside from post-launch patches) Hell is Us should be complete and ready to play.

Of course, this does not mean that the game will be free from any issues, with the likes of Star Wars Outlaws having also gone Gold roughly two months out from its release.

That said, everything we’ve seen from Hell is Us so far appears pretty positive. Hopefully the game manages to meet expectations when it launches on the 4th of September.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to the game? What do you think of the its visual style? Could it be one of 2025’s sleeper hits? Let us know down below.

Need For Speed: Rivals online servers will shut down in October

There’s been a great deal of discussion in recent weeks about the long-term health of the video games industry and the art it creates. Thanks to the ever-increasing growth in digital adoption and the rising reliance on online services, many games operate on a limited shelf life. Unfortunately, the next game to have some of its lights snuffed out is Need For Speed: Rivals – with all of its online services ceasing in a few months’ time.

Updating the ‘About’ section on its Steam page, EA has now announced that 2013’s Need For Speed: Rivals’ “Online servers will be retired on October 7, 2025.”

Though currently still available to purchase, it seems only a matter of time before the game is delisted from storefronts (as is the case with pretty much all racing games featuring licensed vehicles).

Need For Speed Rivals

While we’ve not gotten a comprehensive explanation of what ‘online servers’ shutting down means exactly, NFS: Rivals should (hopefully) remain playable after this date due to it already having an offline mode.

Still, while it is unlikely that many were playing Need For Speed: Rivals online in 2025, it is a shame none-the-less to see yet another game lose access to part of itself.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this announcement? Are you bothered by such moves assuming the game has a functioning offline mode? Let us know down below.

Stardew Valley is now the highest rated game of all time on Steam

Stardew Valley is easily one of the biggest indie success stories ever, with the 2016 farming sim currently sitting as one of the best-selling games of all time at over 41 million copies sold. Despite being almost a decade old, the game has continued to receive major updates on a regular basis – helping it to now become the highest rated Steam game of all time.

A shared by the Steam review tracking site ‘Steam250’, Stardew Valley has dethroned Portal 2 for the top stop on the highest rated games of all time list – based on Steam reviews of course.

With a score of 8.87 (based on calculations made between a game’s approval rating and the number of reviews it’s received) Stardew Valley is now the highest-rated game on Steam, surpassing Portal 2’s 8.85 rating.

Stardew Valley Rated

Of course, different services calculate Steam’s ratings differently, with SteamDB for example still having Portal 2 in the top spot with a rating of 97.72% – and Stardew taking second place at 97.66%.

Regardless, after almost 10 years of continued support on a game which was already excellent at launch, Stardew Valley has certainly earned its spot at (or near) the top of Steam’s review charts.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Stardew Valley in 2025? Are you still playing it? What game would you put at the top of the rankings if given the choice? Let us know down below.

Epomaker’s new HE80 keyboard packs high-end features with low price tag

The keyboard market's love of Hall Effect switches continues, and the technology is rapidly becoming more accessible. The latest contender to enter the ring is Epomaker with its new HE80, a 75% compact keyboard that packs a suite of high-end, gamer-focused features into a package with a surprisingly low launch price.

On paper, the HE80 delivers features we'd expect from much more expensive offerings. It's built around a compact 82-key layout (75%), saving precious desk space while keeping the essential arrow and function keys. Under the hood, Epomaker has fitted its own MagneX Hall Effect switches.

In a market currently saturated with ultra-flexible, gasket-mounted keyboards, Epomaker designed the HE80 with a “no flex-cut” mounting plate for a rigid and solid typing platform. This construction aims to provide firm and direct feedback on every keystroke, a feel that many typists and gamers may prefer over the softer, bouncier experience that has recently dominated the scene. The board also ships with a set of PBT keycaps and includes an extra set of transparent PC keycaps for those who want to maximise the RGB glow.

The customisation suite is where the HE80 truly aims to make its mark. The magnetic switches are hot-swappable, but the most impressive aspect is the software-free configuration. Through an online driver, which avoids the need for installing software, users can fine-tune the keyboard's performance. This includes adjusting the actuation point and end-travel on a per-key basis, allowing for a completely personalised setup.

It also supports a trio of advanced functions. Dynamic Keystroke, or DKS, allows a single key to perform different actions depending on how far you press it. Then, there's Mod-Tap, a feature that lets a key serve two roles depending on how you press it. Finally, its Toggle Key function, or TGL, enables you to turn any key into a latching switch, similar to Caps Lock, for any assigned action. For a launch price of $62.99/€62.95, the Epomaker HE80 stands as a very aggressive entry into the Hall Effect market.

Subnautica 2 reportedly delayed so publisher can avoid paying bonuses to devs

For years, Subnautica dominated Steam Charts as one of the top-selling games and fans were quick to turn the planned sequel into the most wishlisted game on Steam. Now, after acquiring Unknown Worlds and the Subnautica IP, Krafton is throwing all of that goodwill from fans away.

To get the full picture of this story, first we have to go back a week. Last week, Unknown Worlds founders, Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, left the studio along with CEO, Ted Gill. This change at the top felt very sudden, as by all accounts, Subnautica 2 development had been going well.

Now, it turns out that the former Unknown Worlds' leadership left the studio due to disagreements with Krafton. Bloomberg reported last night that Subnautica 2 had been delayed to 2026, despite the fact that developers say the game is ready to launch in Early Access right now.

Why would Krafton delay a hyped-up early access game that is ready to hit Steam? Well, it turns out that Gill, McGuire and Cleveland had a $250 million bonus heading their way if certain targets were met. Meeting those financial targets would have been very realistic if Subnautica 2 was still launching into Early Access this year. However, Krafton made the decision to delay the game, against the whishes of the three executives. It is reported that the three had promised to split the $250M bonus with development staff, with the majority of the money going to employees.

The report implies that Krafton is actively hampering its own studio to avoid paying the bonus money. As a result, fans are now looking to boycott Subnautica 2. However, in its own statement, Krafton denies that the Subnautica 2 delay is for financial reasons.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: The developers doing the day-to-day grind on Subnautica 2 were well aware of the $250M bonus and for most of those workers, that bonus would have resulted in a very impactful sum of money. Now with that bonus taken away, I have to wonder how motivated those workers are going to be in the run-up to launch.

Video game voice actor strike ends after year-long battle over AI

The SAG-AFTRA video game voice actor strike is finally coming to an end. After a year of withholding work, the union has reached a new agreement for its members, allowing them to return to the vocal booth.

When a union goes on strike, members of that union are prohibited in the jobs they can accept. This has led to multiple video game delays, voice actor re-castings and in the case of live service games like Destiny 2, they had to release seasonal cutscene content while missing key voice actors, making for a rather bizarre experience when jumping into new content.

Now, all of that will come to an end. The SAG-AFTRA union had a vote and 95% of the vote was in favour of the new deal with game studios and publishers.

The new deal puts ‘guardrails' in place around the use of AI, protecting real performers from having their work copied and replicated by publishers without any form of disclosure or consent.  Moving forward, a studio will have to ask one of its unionised voice actors for permission and work out a separate deal with them if they want to release AI-generated content involving them.

The deal comes at a time where AI is taking over numerous industries across the globe. Previously, publishers were training their own AI-powered voice actors using the work of real performers. Now, they'll have to actually ask and pay the person.

As SAG-AFTRA is a US union, this only applies to US-based voice actors. Unions in other countries are already starting to explore obtaining similar rights, like Equity, a union for UK voice actors. Speaking with Eurogamer, an Equity UK spokesperson said: “The UK cannot be the poor relation, especially when the industry and engagers here in the UK are supported by tax breaks. So we call upon the engagers to step up to meet the challenge to make the UK games industry the best it possibly can be for creatives.”

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: SAG-AFTRA voice actors can now return to working on projects. With all of this out of the way, I'm expecting 2026 to be a particularly big year for new game trailers, as many announcements would have been delayed due to the strikes.

JEDEC publishes LPDDR6 memory standard

The future of memory for our phones, ultra-thin laptops, and a new wave of AI devices just got a lot clearer. JEDEC has officially published its next-generation JESD209-6 LPDDR6 memory standard. This isn't just an incremental update; LPDDR6 is engineered from the ground up to deliver a significant leap in performance, power efficiency, and security to meet the demands of artificial intelligence and other high-performance workloads.

The standard moves to a dual sub-channel design on each die, with each sub-channel featuring 12 data signal lines. This approach allows for more flexible and efficient operation, boosting performance while maintaining the fine-grained 32-byte data access needed for modern SoCs. The design optimises the command and address signal layout to minimise the physical ball count on the chip, which in turn helps speed up data access and reduce latency.

JEDEC has also baked in a host of new power-saving features. LPDDR6 operates at a lower voltage than its predecessor and introduces more sophisticated power management. A new feature called Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling for Low Power (DVFSL) allows the memory to reduce its supply voltage during low-frequency operation, sipping less power when performance isn't critical. The standard also refines its efficiency modes, allowing the system to use a single sub-channel interface for low-bandwidth tasks, further cutting down on energy consumption.

Lastly, security and reliability components have also been given a significant overhaul. The LPDDR6 standard introduces several new safeguards to maintain data integrity and system stability. One of these is Per Row Activation Counting (PRAC), a mechanism designed to protect against potential data corruption in the DRAM itself. The standard also mandates support for on-die error correcting code (ECC) and includes new capabilities for command and address parity, error scrubbing, and built-in self-testing.

GameStop ‘staplegate’ Switch 2 auction raises over $100,000

Last month when the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, eager fans flocked to GameStop to try and nab one on day-one. There was just one problem – the checkout guy, armed with a stapler, was unknowingly damaging units by stapling the receipt to the box. Now, GameStop is hoping to turn this unfortunate incident into a wholesome story by auctioning off the Switch 2 and the stapler for charity.

GameStop has put the ‘Staplegate' stapler up for auction, bundled with the Switch 2 unit that was damaged by said stapler. While this is a minor footnote in video game history, it is a piece of history all the same.

Currently, the GameStop Staplegate charity auction has surpassed $109,000 USD on eBay, based on over 180 individual bids. The auction ends in six days, so we'll have to wait until then to find out if the winning bid was legitimate or not.

Considering a boxed copy of the original Super Mario Bros. can sell for $2 million, I have no doubt believing that someone would be crazy enough to spend six figures on a stapler.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: In case anyone was wondering, the person who originally purchased the stapler-damaged Switch 2 did get a replacement the same week of launch.

PEAK and three brand-new games join GeForce Now this week

There are over 20 games joining GeForce Now in July but it looks like the bulk of those games are arriving later in the month. This week sees just four games joining the library, three of which are brand-new, day-one releases. The fourth is one of this year's big surprise hits, PEAK.

Each year there tends to be a niche game on Steam that makes the leap into the mainstream. This year, that game is PEAK, a co-op climbing game from Aggro Crab that has received rave reviews from fans in recent weeks. Another major game confirmed for GeForce Now this week is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4. While most Xbox/Activision games now join GeForce Now on day-one, there has been a delay with this one, so expect the game to get GFN support next week.

Here is the full list of games joining GeForce Now today:

  • Every Day We Fight (New release on Steam, July 10)
  • Mycopunk (New release on Steam, July 10)
  • Brickadia (New release on Steam, July 11)

Chieftec unveils the Vista ATX PC case

In a market flooded with glass-panelled chassis, Chieftec is throwing its hat into the ring with its latest mid-tower case, the Vista (GT-01B-OP). The new enclosure aims to grab the attention of system builders who prioritise both thermal performance and showing off their components, combining panoramic glass with a thoughtful airflow layout.

The Vista sports both tempered glass front and side panels, offering a clean, unobstructed view of the hardware inside. Chieftec is highlighting what it calls an “innovative top-bottom configuration” designed to promote optimal ventilation and a clean interior aesthetic. Despite its mid-tower classification, the case boasts impressive hardware support on paper. It can accommodate large GPUs up to 400 mm long, a 360 mm radiator in the top position for AIO coolers, and traditional air coolers up to 160 mm tall.

To get you started, Chieftec pre-installs three 120mm A-RGB fans. In a move to optimise airflow right out of the box, the two side-mounted fans are configured as intakes and feature reverse-flow blades to pull cool air in without compromising their visual appeal from the outside. Acknowledging the weight and size of modern graphics cards, Chieftec also includes a VGA holder to prevent dreaded GPU sag, ensuring your prized component stays securely in place.

All the included lighting and fan speeds can be managed through a pre-installed A-RGB control hub. This hub provides direct PWM fan speed control and allows you to synchronise the lighting effects with the rest of your system via motherboard software.

Twisted Metal Season 2 gets first official trailer ahead of July premiere

One of the biggest surprise hits from the recent rise in adaptations of video games into film/TV was Peacock’s Twisted Metal. Released back in 2023, a second season was officially announced during last year’s Game Awards. Ahead of the series’ return on the 31st of July, Twisted Metal Season 2 has gotten its first official trailer.

Following the confirmation that a second season of Peacock’s Twisted Metal was on its way during last year’s Game Awards, we got our first teaser for the follow-up series back in April – releasing a tongue-in-cheek premiere date video.

Finally however, we’ve gotten our first proper taste of what Season 2 has in store, with the official trailer following up on prior events while also seemingly leaning into the game show / tournament concept of the franchise more.

In case you missed it back when it released, Twisted Metal initially arrived to relatively little fanfare due to rather low expectations. Surprisingly however, the show was a hit, becoming one of Peacock’s biggest – and of course spawning a sequel.

Given how fans are now more familiar with this take on Twisted Metal, it will be interesting to see what viewers think when the show premieres on the 31st of July.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the first season? Are you looking forward to Season 2? What other older PlayStation franchise would you like to see adapted? Let us know down below.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is the 2nd best-selling game of 2025 so far

While fans have been waiting well over a decade now for the next entry in The Elder Scrolls series (with no end in sight), instead of re-releasing Skyrim for the 100th time Bethesda Softworks decided to remaster 2006’s TES IV: Oblivion using Unreal Engine 5. Despite being a surprise release back in late April, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is currently the second highest-selling game of the year so far (in the US).

As shared by analyst Matt Piscatella of Circana, across all platforms (both digital and physical) in the US, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is currently positioned as the second-best selling game of the year so far (only behind Monster Hunter Wilds).

While a massive achievement in and of itself, the data only includes up until the 31st of May – meaning its current position is based off of just over a month worth of sales.

Oblivion Remastered

It’s also worth noting that Oblivion managed to achieve the 3rd highest sales of the year just over a week following its launch. Given this fact, it isn’t too surprising to see the remaster having climbed the ranks further since.

Will it overtake Monster Hunter Wilds for the top spot? We’ll have to wait and see, but considering that Oblivion is also available on Xbox Game Pass, it may not have the legs to outdo Capcom’s ongoing behemoth.

KitGuru says: Are you surprised by the success of Oblivion Remastered? Are you looking forward to the rumoured Fallout remasters next? Will any game manage to outsell Monster Hunter Wilds this year? Let us know down below.

4 of the 5 best-selling games in May were Microsoft-published

In the past 5 years or so, Microsoft has swallowed up quite a significant chunk of the video games industry, with the two biggest examples being Zenimax Media in 2020 and of course Activision Blizzard. Given how many fingers it has across the metaphorical video game pie, it comes as little surprise that 4 of the top 5 best-selling games in May were all published by Microsoft.

Taking to BlueSky, industry analyst Matt Piscatella (of Circana) shared the top 20 best-selling games of May 2025 in the US (based on dollar sales).

While new entrant Elden Ring: Nightreign took the top spot for the month, positions 2-5 were all published by Microsoft:

  1. Elden Ring: Nightreign
  2. Doom: The Dark Ages
  3. Forza Horizon 5
  4. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Microsoft Selling

In case you missed it, the Oblivion Remaster is currently the 2nd-best-selling game of 2025 so far; and so it continuing to sit near the top of the charts makes sense. In addition, Forza Horizon 5 recently released on PlayStation 5 – likely boosting its sales across the board.

Doom: The Dark Ages meanwhile was the long awaited 3rd entry in the rebooted DOOM trilogy. Though it failed to beat Nightreign, very few franchises can take on FromSoftware in today’s day-and-age post-Elden Ring.

Last but certainly not least, Black Ops 6 is the newest entry in the never-ending Call of Duty cash-cow – and so of course it remains in the top 5 despite being more than halfway through its lifecycle.

All in all, it is interesting to see Microsoft’s various acquisitions all coming together now and being positioned so close together on the sales charts. That said, with them owning Call of Duty, there will likely never be a month where Microsoft isn’t in the top 5 from this point forth.

KitGuru says: What do you think of May’s best-sellers? Are you surprised by the Microsoft representation? How long do you think Nightreign will remain at no.1? Let us know down below.

Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9995WX benchmark shows 20% multi-core performance uplift

If you've been waiting for the ultimate workstation CPU and have deep pockets, we have good news. AMD's monstrous 96-core, 192-thread Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9995WX has been spotted on Geekbench 6, and as expected, the scores are very high.

While AMD has kept the official launch date under wraps since its reveal at Computex, the arrival of retail listings and the first leaked benchmarks (via Benchleaks) suggest a release is imminent. The chip scored approximately 2,800 points in the single-core test and a jaw-dropping 30,170 in the multi-core test. While the single-core performance shows a negligible improvement over the 7995WX, the multi-core score tells another story. The multi-core results show an impressive generational uplift of around 22%.

Built on TSMC's 4nm process, the 9995WX is the crown jewel of the new Threadripper Pro 9000 series. Its 96 Zen 5 cores run at a 2.5GHz base clock but can boost up to 5.4GHz. This is complemented by a colossal 384MB of L3 cache.

Designed for the sTR5 socket and WRX90 motherboards, the 9995WX handles up to 2TB of 8-channel DDR5-6400 ECC memory and provides a staggering 128 lanes of PCIe 5.0 connectivity. This makes it an ideal engine for high-end workstations tackling content creation, complex simulations, and heavy AI development. The chip maintains a 350W TDP, in line with its predecessor.

Lossless Scaling Frame Generation is coming to Linux

For PC gamers, and especially Steam Deck owners, tweaking is part of the fun. We're all familiar with the endless quest to squeeze every last frame out of our hardware. On Windows, one of the most popular tools in a tweaker's arsenal has been Lossless Scaling, an application that can inject frame generation into almost any game to boost performance. It's a fantastic bit of software, but with one major catch: it's Windows-exclusive. However, it seems that bit is about to change.

As reported by GamingOnLinux (via SteamDeckHQ), thanks to the impressive work of a developer known as PancakeTAS, Lossless Scaling is coming to Linux, even if not in its entirety. As part of the new project called “lsfg-vk”, Lossless Scaling's Frame Generation is being ported to Linux and, by extension, to the Steam Deck.

PancakeTAS has chronicled the gruelling process of getting the feature up and running, which involves using the well-known DXVK translation layer to intercept the DirectX 11 processes of Lossless Scaling and convert them to the Vulkan API that Linux supports. It's a clever workaround for a long-standing problem.

For those adventurous enough to try it now, the developer has provided instructions on the project's GitHub page. Be warned that it's not a simple one-click install just yet, as it requires running a few commands to install the necessary components and also requires you to own Lossless Scaling on Steam. Once the setup is complete, enabling it is as simple as adding “ENABLE_LSFG=1 %command%” to a game's launch options.

While the potential here is huge, there are some caveats. Frame generation is most effective in GPU-bound scenarios; it can't do much for games that are bottlenecked by the CPU, which is often the case for struggling titles on the Steam Deck. Furthermore, the lsfg-vk project is in its very early days, so you should expect bugs and potential issues as development continues.

KitGuru says: Do you play games on a Linux-based system? Will you try Lossless Scaling FG as it is, or wait for a more stable version before doing so?

AIDA64 gets support for Zen 6 CPUs and Radeon RX 9060 GPUs

While the dust is still settling from the launch of Zen 5, it seems the software world is already bracing for what comes next. In a move that gives hardware enthusiasts a glimpse into the future, the latest AIDA64 update has added preliminary support for AMD's Zen 6 architecture and unreleased Radeon GPUs.

Note that this is the earliest of early support. We are talking about basic hardware identifiers being added to a database so the software doesn't crash when it eventually encounters these parts, so don't expect these new products to arrive tomorrow. In fact, we likely won't see this silicon on shelves until late 2026. Still, these software breadcrumbs are the first official hints of the components we'll be debating for the next couple of years.

The update explicitly lists initial support for Zen 6-based CPUs across server, desktop, and mobile platforms. This architecture is, of course, poised to be the eventual successor to the Zen 5 family that currently populates AMD's product stack. Early whispers point to the AM5 desktop variant of Zen 6 being codenamed “Olympic Ridge”, with some speculating it could usher in the most significant architectural shift since the move to AM4, potentially by increasing the number of cores per CCD.

On the graphics front, the AIDA64 update also threw in some intriguing new entries. For AMD, the update adds the Radeon RX 9060 XT and the professional-grade Radeon PRO R9700. Perhaps most curiously, however, is the listing for a Radeon RX 9060 (non-XT). While this could point to a mobile GPU, AIDA64's listing hints that they expect a non-XT desktop card for this SKU. The complete list of patch notes (via HXL) for AIDA64 version 7.70.7500 can be found below:

  • Text scaling and other accessibility related improvements
  • SensorPanel enhancements: new color picker dialog, grid lines, custom gauges with up to 101 states, new date and time representation items

Stalker 2 coming to PS5 and PS5 Pro later this year

Stalker 2 has been a success so far, but it is time to expand. After releasing as an Xbox console exclusive, GSC Game World is now bringing Stalker 2 to PS5, opening the game up to millions of new gamers. Better yet, many of the bugs that were present at launch have been squashed, to PS5 players will be getting a much better day-one experience.

While Stalker 2 launched in a rough state, fans were quick to forgive GSC Game World due to the circumstances surrounding the game's development. GSC Game World was based in Ukraine, but when Russia invaded the country in 2022, the studio was forced to relocate. A Russia-linked cyberattack on the studio also led to further delays of the game's launch.

Since launch, GSC Game World has shipped a number of major patches for Stalker 2, the biggest of which arrived last month and makes major changes to the game's flagship A-LIFE simulation technology.

Now with A-LIFE 2.0 now rolled out, GSC Game World can carve out some time to bring Stalker 2 to more platforms. The game launched last year as an Xbox console exclusive. Now, the game will debut on PS5 for the first time ‘later this year'. The lack of firm release date information leaves the door open for a delay.

The announcement follows the recent multi-platform release of the original Stalker games on consoles and PC.

There are ‘multiple’ Fallout projects in development, but not Fallout 5

While we expected Bethesda Game Studios to grow into a multi-project studio after being acquired by Microsoft, for now, the flagship studio behind Fallout and The Elder Scrolls is remaining as-is. As a result of this, we're unlikely to see Fallout 5 until the 2030s, but it seems that spin-offs are in development to help tide fans over.

The next mainline Fallout game is not yet in development and won't enter production until after The Elder Scrolls 6 comes out. However, that doesn't mean we won't get other Fallout games in the meantime. In a recent appearance on the Friends per Second podcast, VGC reporter, Jordan Middler, explained that while Fallout 5 is not yet in development there are “multiple Fallout projects in development, including, as far as I'm aware, that one you're all wanting”.

That ‘one you're all wanting' is likely to be a New Vegas game. There were rumours in the year or so after Microsoft acquired Bethesda that New Vegas 2 was greenlit, but no other details have come to light so far. We've also been hearing rumours about a Fallout 3 remaster for years. Now that Oblivion Remastered has been a success, perhaps we'll see a similar makeover for Bethesda's first Fallout game.

As far as Fallout 5 goes, BGS director, Todd Howard, has previously confirmed that there is a ‘one sheet' detailing ideas for the game, but nothing further beyond that.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Now that the Fallout Prime series has been a huge success, there is even more pressure to get a new Fallout game out of the door. Season 2 is set to air later this year and will take us to New Vegas, perhaps we'll get a new game teaser around that same time.

Ubisoft preparing for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake announcement

The long awaited announcement of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Remake is nearing. Following on from recent comments from a main cast voice actor, fans have begun spotting mysterious changes to the Black Flag Steam page, indicating that a major update is in the works.

As spotted by The Hidden One, the Steam Store page for Assassin's Creed Black Flag has had a number of updates recently, listing features that were not present in the original game. That list includes things like mouse-only gameplay, adjustable difficulty, manual save functionality and more.

It is speculated that these are features implemented in the remake. These appearing in the back-end for the original game's Steam page makes sense, as the original game listing is likely to be replaced with the remake once it is ready. Ubisoft has done this before with Assassin's Creed 2, with the classic game no longer available to be purchased and replaced by the remaster on all storefronts.

This news follows a recent tease from Matt Ryan, the voice of Edward Kenway, the main protagonist for Assassin's Creed Black Flag. At the rate things are going, we are expecting to see Ubisoft announce the remake before the end of the summer.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Like many others, Black Flag was my personal favourite of the classic Assassin's Creed games. Hopefully the remake holds up, Ubisoft can't really afford to erode consumer trust any further.

Ghost of Yōtei State of Play to go live tomorrow

Ever since it was officially announced back in September of last year, fans have been eagerly awaiting for a full deep-dive into the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei. Following its brief presence at June’s showcase, the previously-promised dedicated Ghost of Yōtei State of Play presentation has now been announced and dated.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog to make the announcement, Sucker Punch Productions wrote: “We are less than 100 days away from the launch of Ghost of Yōtei on PS5 on October 2! This week, we can’t wait to give you your best look yet at what to expect with a State of Play gameplay deep dive streaming on July 10.”

Said to feature “nearly 20 minutes of Ghost of Yōtei gameplay hosted by Sucker Punch’s Creative Directors, Jason Connell and Nate Fox” the 10PM presentation will include a look at protagonist Atsu’s new weapons; personalisation options; “new special modes, and much more.”

Ghost of Yōtei State of Play

As mentioned, while Sony has shown off Ghost of Yōtei a couple times now, we’ve yet to see any uninterrupted gameplay.

Given the fact that Ghost of Tsushima released back in 2020 and remains celebrated to this day, it will be highly interesting to see how the team at Sucker Punch Productions have improved upon all of Ghost of Tsushima’s many great elements.

Tokyo Game Show 2025 announces full line-up of partner publishers

Tokyo Game Show is a staple of the industry, with primarily Japanese developers taking to the event to reveal new games, offer updates on titles and more. Ahead of this year’s event (taking place in September), the full line-up of hundreds of developers and publishers has now been revealed.

Set to go live between the 25th and 28th of September, 2025’s Tokyo Game Show will once again feature hundreds of developers and publishers. Of course, the scope of each team’s involvement differs, with many simply being present across different booths.

That said, pretty much all the heavy-hitters (Nintendo aside) are set to take part in some form or another at TGS this year, including but not limited to:

  • Arc System Works
  • Bandai Namco
  • Capcom
  • EA
  • Koei Tecmo
  • Konami
  • Microsoft
  • Ubisoft
  • SEGA
  • Sony
  • Square Enix
  • Take-Two

While certainly one of the biggest video game expos out there, with over 4000 booths planned for this year’s event, TGS typically does not offer too much in the way of major announcements.

Regardless, it is exciting nonetheless to see so many participants at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. Hopefully we do get to see at least a couple cool / unexpected announcements.

The Last of Us Part II update brings new ‘Chronological’ mode

Since its launch back in 2020, Naughty Dog have sporadically updated The Last of Us Part II in the form of a PS5 remaster; a PC release – and a couple bonus free post-launch updates. In a surprising addition, The Last of Us Part II has gotten a new mode which allows players to experience the story in a whole new way: chronologically.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Naughty Dog have unveiled and released patch 2.1.0 for PS5 (and update 1.5 for PC), writing: “Available for players as part of a downloadable update today, we’ve introduced a new way to play the story of The Last of Us Part II like never before – chronologically.”

For the uninitiated, The Last of Us Part II is told in a somewhat non-linear manner, with the game’s dual protagonists switching back and forth in both time and space depending on the chapter.

The Last of Us Part II

While this was of course the intended way to experience TLOU Part II’s story, Naughty Dog notes that “we always wondered what it would be like to experience this story chronologically. And now finally, we can answer that question,” adding “Through the new Chronological mode, we believe players will gain even deeper insight into Part II’s narrative.”

Beyond the new mode, the update brings with it a couple other small additions, namely a new skin for Joel and Tommy in the style of Nathan and Sam Drake from Uncharted respectively, as well as some trophies for completing a playthrough using the chronological mode.

While the structure of The Last of Us Part II was highly intentional, it will be interesting to see how the story is perceived when played in this manner.

Intel Arrow Lake Refresh reportedly features clock speed bump and new NPU

Intel isn't quite done with the Arrow Lake platform, even though it has released 22 SKUs since its debut. An update to the Arrow Lake-S desktop lineup is reportedly planned for release in the second half of 2025.

The Arrow Lake Refresh has been mentioned a few times in the past, but ZDNet Korea (via Tom's Hardware) has now expanded on it with some extra details. Importantly, this refresh will still use chipsets from the 800-series and keeps the LGA 1851 socket. This guarantees that existing motherboards will continue to be compatible.

The anticipated NPU4 is the biggest improvement coming with the Arrow Lake-S update. Like last year's Lunar Lake mobile chips, this next-generation NPU should offer 48 TOPS of performance, meeting Microsoft's Copilot+ AI PC requirements (+40 TOPS). Considering the current NPU used on Arrow Lake chips only delivers about 13 TOPS, that's a significant bump.

Intel's branding strategy for this update is still unclear; it may stay under the Core Ultra 200 series umbrella or move into a different tier. As the company gets ready for the more architecturally significant Nova Lake, which is still reportedly set for a 2026 release on the Intel 18A node, this move is probably a calculated attempt to prolong Arrow Lake's market lifespan.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru says: Nothing is official yet, but it sounds like we'll be getting some slightly faster Arrow Lake CPUs later in the year.

Romero Games ‘in talks’ with publishers to save project after Xbox cuts

One of the more surprising casualties from last week's Xbox layoffs was Romero Games. Founded by DOOM creator, John Romero, the studio was not owned by Microsoft, but its new game was being funded by them and when that funding was pulled, a number of employees made the claim that the entire studio had closed down. As it turns out, Romero Games is still ‘open', but it needs to find a new publisher to continue work on its game.

While Romero Games has not named Microsoft or Xbox in any of its official statements, the company did confirm last week that it had lost publisher funding for the new First-Person Shooter it was developing. After reports that the studio was closing, Romero Games issued a correction, saying the studio is not closed, at least not just yet.

“We want to address recent reports regarding the status of Romero Games. These reports have contained inaccuracies, and we feel it's important to set the record straight. Romero Games is not closed, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure that it does not come to that. Any suggestion otherwise is factually incorrect. Indeed, we were in the studio today to discuss next steps with the team.”

While the company remains ‘in business', the lack of publisher for its new game means that the Romeros need to “reassess the entire staffing”. The studio also makes the claim that several publishers have been in touch to express interest in saving the project. However, there has been no pen to paper yet, so the situation is still evolving.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully Romero Games is able to recover funding from a new source and keep all of its staff. For now though, the future of this mystery game is still up in the air.

Solo Leveling: Karma announced for PC

Solo Levelling: Karma, a new action RPG for PC and mobile platforms based on the hugely popular Korean webcomic and anime series, was unveiled by developer Netmarble. Similar to Netmarble's Solo Levelling: Arise (Overdrive), Karma looks to be a fast-paced, isometric dungeon crawler that is reminiscent of Hades.

Its anime adaptation has an average rating of 4.9/5 from over 826,000 user reviews on Crunchyroll, surpassing even critically acclaimed hits like One Piece and Demon Slayer. Solo Levelling: Karma is the most recent adaptation, and although its sleek, fashionable combat appears ready to compete for a place among the top action games, its most alluring hook is the opening line within the trailer. The trailer opens with, “As all battles come to a close, Sung Jinwoo's endless war begins anew”. Without giving away too much, this phrase is believed to refer to Solo Leveling's “Monarch War” arc, where there's a 27-year time skip.

Fans have mixed opinions over the ending of Solo Levelling, but this game presents an exciting opportunity to tell stories from that massive 27-year gap in the main narrative.

As of right now, Netmarble has not specified a specific release date for this title, only that it is “coming soon”. The game will be available on PC and mobile devices through Google Play and the App Store.

Capcom cancels conference talk as Monster Hunter Wilds frustration boils over

Monster Hunter Wilds has been one of the biggest disappointments of 2025, in large part due to the game running poorly on both PC and consoles like the PS5. In fact, the performance issues are so prolific that shareholders are asking executives about it at meetings. With that in mind, I was quite shocked to hear this week that Capcom had been planning a conference talk this week titled “Monster Hunter Wilds runs smoothly! Everything you need to know about optimisation”.

As reported by Automaton and VGC, Japan's largest game developer conference, CEDEC, is due to take place this week. Capcom developers had planned to host a talk at this conference, one titled “Monster Hunter Wilds runs smoothly! Everything you need to know about optimisation”.

It is honestly quite baffling to see that headline and it makes me very curious to see what was going to be said at this talk. However, we won't get that opportunity, as Capcom cancelled their conference talk.

Capcom says that it has had instances of “slander, libel, denigration, intimidation and threats to harm or disrupt business” in recent weeks, as backlash over the lack of game improvements continues on social media. This is all going on amid Monster Hunter Wilds dropping to an Overwhelmingly Negative user score on Steam.

Square Enix-backed ARPG ‘Vaultbreakers’ revealed in new trailer

To expedite the development of the top-down action-RPG, Vaultbreakers, Square Enix has made an undisclosed “major investment” in BetaDwarf, a Danish game development company. Square Enix will acquire a minority stake in BetaDwarf as part of this agreement.

For BetaDwarf, the studio behind games like Forced and Minion Masters, this investment is regarded as a significant step. A visit to BetaDwarf's studio led to the decision to invest, according to Hideaki Uehara, General Manager of Business Development at Square Enix Holdings. BetaDwarf CEO and Game Director Steffen Kabbelgaard was excited about the collaboration, saying that Square Enix's involvement offers “amazing access to a combination of knowledge, talent, and resources”.

Additionally, Kabbelgaard stated that Vaultbreakers' development is already well advanced. With a “huge amazing community” and “15+ tests with more than 50,000 players”, the game has been continuously improved throughout production. In particular, the new funding will help BetaDwarf expand its community-driven development strategy and improve its production capabilities. The PvE mode and solo queue are results of that strategy. BetaDwarf recently released the first gameplay trailer for Vaultbreakers, and a week-long public playtest is being held from July 3rd to the 9th.

Copenhagen-based BetaDwarf had previously raised $6.6 million in 2019 to create social gaming experiences that promote friendships. Minion Masters, the company's most recent game, has amassed “millions of players”, and Forced, their 2013 debut game, has sold more than 500,000 copies.

Corsair Frame 5000D Review (with $300 Elite Tray)

James was impressed by the Corsair Frame 4000D so we have high hopes for this Frame 5000D which is larger in all three dimensions and supports more cooling hardware. The key difference between 50000D and 4000D is support for a 420mm liquid cooler in the roof. Push it to the limits and Frame 5000D can accommodate 12x 140mm fans, which sounds mega.

Testing

To put this case through its cooling paces we will be using a test system consisting of an Intel core Ultra 9 285K, Palit RTX 5080 and an SSD. This system allows us to produce a substantial amount of heat and effectively test the Corsair Frame 5000D’s cooling capabilities.

Test System:

  • Processor: Intel core Ultra 9 285K
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE Link Titan 420 RX RGB
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Pro Ice
  • Memory: 48GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 8400
  • Graphics card: Palit RTX 5080 Gamerock OC 16GB
  • Power supply: Corsair RM1000x Shift 1000W Gold
  • SSD: Corsair 2TB MP600 Elite M.2 NVMe
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro

Cooling Performance

Cooling Performance Overview

You can gauge by eye that the Frame 5000D is likely to flow air well, and of course we have the knowledge that Frame 4000D works well in the cooling department. Added to that we are using the four supplied 140mm case fans and the three 140mm fans on the Corsair iCUE Link Titan 420 RX RGB, so we are working with a total of seven 140mm fans. The result is exactly as expected, which is that the Frame 5000D cools well and can be run with the fans low and slow. Ramping up fan speeds is both noisy and entirely unnecessary.

Closing Thoughts

The easiest way to compare and contrast the Corsair Frame 5000D and the Frame 4000D (review HERE) is to look at every surface where the 4000D supports 2x 140mm fans and you can be confident the 5000D supports 3x 140mm fans. The snag is that while you may assume the 5000D will support a 420mm liquid cooler in the front and side positions  this is not actually the case; 3x 140mm fans – Yes, 420mm cooler – No. You can see the result where we struggle to install a 420mm Corsair AIO in the roof where it is supported in theory but not really in practice.

The solution, in our view, is to ignore 420mm AIO coolers and radiators and to stick to tried and true 280mm and 360mm which work brilliantly well. This might make you wonder why you need a Frame 5000D in the first place and our answer is that you do not. The Frame 4000D will do everything you want and the Frame 5000D is just for lazy people who like the extra space to make life easy when they build their PC.

You can buy the Corsair Frame 5000D RS ARGB for £149.99

Pros:

  • Easy to build in with good access to everything, inc EPS cables.
  • Good airflow.
  • The promised accessories look interesting.

Cons:

  • We need slightly more space in the roof to properly support 420mm.
  • The promised accessories are not available and will likely be expensive.
  • Our early sample had some teething problems.
  • Turn up the fan speeds and the case gets noisy.

KitGuru says: The Frame 5000D isn’t quite large enough to deliver on its promises. But it is a very good case.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 reviews reveal a solid remake

Following months of leaks and rumours, the long awaited follow-up to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was officially announced in the form of THPS 3+4. With the game finally set to launch in just a couple days, early reviews for the title have gone live – revealing what looks to be a solid remake (with some caveats).

Though subject to change as more reviews are published, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 currently sits at an 83 on Metacritic, with an OpenCritic rating of 85 – just slightly behind its predecessor THPS 1+2 (89).

That said, unlike the first three titles, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 in particular shook the formula up a bit upon its original release back in 2002, adding more of a campaign mode when compared to prior entries.

Pro Skater 3+4

Unfortunately, THPS 3+4 axed said campaign mode, instead replacing it with a challenge system more similar to that of the first 3 games – a change which according to reviews will be “disappointing” to those who enjoyed the 4th Pro Skater’s format.

All in all however, it appears as though Iron Galaxy successfully took over the reins from Vicarious Visions (who worked on THPS 1+2) for this remake.

It will be interesting to see what fans think of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 when it officially launches for everyone on the 11th of July.

The 120mm fan has a fluid dynamic bearing to ensure long-lasting and quiet operation, better yet – the fan comes preinstalled, so you won't have to waste any time while setting the cooler up. At the top of the heatsink you'll find a digital display, which can show system stats taken from BIOS readings, or it can be paired with the LC-Power companion software for further customisation.

This cooler is rated to handle up to 230W TDP and supports Intel LGA 1851, 1700, 1200 and 115x sockets, as well as AMD's AM4 and AM5 sockets, enabling broad compatibility across multiple generations of processors. The cooler will cost £39.99 in the UK.

Next up we have the new AERA LC-CC-120-B4 and LC-CC-120-W4 coolers. The B4 is the black version and the W4 is the white version. In both cases, the entire heatsink is coated, creating a cohesive look that will pair well with other system components.

The AERA coolers are designed for modern Intel and AMD systems. They use four copper heat pipes, combined with aluminium cooling fins and a copport heat spreader. The 120mm fan has a fluid dynamic bearing, ensuring long-lasting operation with minimal wear over time.

These coolers are rated to handle up to 190W of TDP and support the Intel LGA 1851, 1700, 1200 and 115x sockets, as well as AMD's AM4 and AM5 sockets. Both coolers will be priced at £29.99 in the UK.

KitGuru Says: All three coolers here are very competitively priced and would certainly be a huge upgrade over a stock cooler.

The Finals will continue to work on Steam Deck despite new anti-cheat

While the Steam Deck and SteamOS have been taking the PC gaming space by storm over the past few years, there remains a subset of titles which struggle to run on the platform – those being games which user kernel level anti-cheat. Fortunately, it appears as though some developers are working to try and keep their multiplayer games supported on the platform, with The Finals committing to continued functionality on Steam Deck despite their newly-added anti-cheat.

As part of the latest update to The Finals, the team at Embark Studios officially detailed the game’s new anti-cheat, writing: “In the coming months, we will also begin an incremental rollout of a new kernel-based anti-cheat solution, intended to significantly raise the bar for cheat makers.”

As mentioned, most games which utilise kernel-level anti-cheat are unable to run on SteamOS due to its use of Linux. That said, Embark took to their Discord to reaffirm their commitment to the Steam Deck / SteamOS, stating:

“Hey guys! There are no plans to drop support for SteamOS/Proton/Wine and/or SteamDeck, despite us not officially supporting the platform, we will do our upmost best to maintain your ability to play.”

The Finals Steam Deck

Adding to this, the team claimed to be “working pretty closely with CodeWeavers to QA every release we put out there since about Season 5, and I don't see a reason to stop that. It's not exactly a collaboration, but we do catch issues with SteamDeck early because at the very least they do a pass on the game before we release a patch.”

So, while it appears as though issues may arise as a result of this new implementation, the team at Embark seem to be committed to ensuring The Finals continues to run on the Steam Deck and SteamOS as a whole.

Game Pass isn’t as profitable as it’s claimed, according to insider

There’s been a great deal of discussion surrounding Xbox Game Pass and its viability, with some developers expressing concerns with the subscription service’s long-term sustainability. That said, Microsoft has for quite some time claimed it to be a profitable service. While this may be true in some regard, it seems as though the console maker might have been stretching the meaning of the word somewhat.

In a post discussing the viability of Xbox Game Pass in the wake of the latest mass lay-offs at Xbox, known industry insider Christopher Dring took to Twitter to offer some clarity on the common claim that the service is profitable and has been for a while, writing:

“So costs associated with the Game Pass business is fees paid to third-parties, marketing, service costs… and by that measure, it’s profitable.”

profitable Game Pass

Dring continued, “What they don’t count is the lost revenue that Xbox’s first-party studios are seeing as a result of the service. I have to imagine if first-party studios received similar compensation, that profitability might not be correct.”

Considering that Game Pass’ whole USP is the fact that all first-party games are added day-one to the service, not counting these costs feels somewhat disingenuous – and perhaps offers greater insight into how Microsoft is currently perceiving Xbox and Game Pass.

It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft will have anything to say on the matter in future.
