Atomfall has already pulled in over 2 million players

Rebellion, the studio behind the recently released Atomfall, has announced that its new post-apocalyptic adventure, set in the British countryside, has already attracted over 2 million players within its first month.

While Atomfall's availability on Xbox Game Pass from launch undoubtedly contributed to its widespread adoption, the sheer number of players engaging with a brand-new title in such a short timeframe is worth praising.

Rebellion also shared some intriguing in-game statistics, showing how players have engaged with the world of Atomfall. These include:

  • Over 5.9 million enemies dispatched with cricket bats.
  • More than 250,000 virtual pints of beer consumed.
  • A staggering 500,000 cups of tea were brewed and enjoyed.
  • A rather unfortunate 420,000+ player deaths attributed to rat swarms.
  • And a dominant preference for tinned meat as the in-game food of choice, with over 14.1 million tins devoured.

On Opencritic, the game has a good 75 critic rating, with 64% of reviewers recommending it, and a 70 player rating. Critics have praised the tale, but significant gameplay flaws and design challenges keep it from being a great game.

KitGuru says: Have you already tried Atomfall? What do you think of it?

GPU-Z gets support for RTX 5060 Ti and Radeon RX 9070 GRE

GPU-Z (v2.65) just got support for two upcoming GPUs, and one of them is a bit unexpected. Besides getting support for the RTX 5060 Ti. The software also received support for the Radeon RX 9070 GRE, suggesting an imminent release.

Knowing this, instead of using the RX 9060 XT as a competitor to the RTX 5060 Ti, the company seems to be preparing to launch the Radeon RX 9070 GRE first. Interestingly, the same GPU-Z update also adds support for the upcoming RTX 5060 Ti, but only the 16GB variant. Previous leaks have pointed to 16GB and 8GB versions of the RTX 5060 Ti, but Nvidia has made no public announcements at this stage.

Beyond the AMD and Nvidia news, this GPU-Z update is noteworthy for its expanded support for Intel and Moore Threads GPUs. This includes support for the Intel A750E and A580E, embedded solutions catering to applications beyond gaming. Moore Threads support extends to the S3000, a server GPU for virtualisation.

Here are the full patch notes for GPU-Z v2.65.0 (via TechPowerUp):

  • Added support for Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, RTX 5090 Laptop, RTX 5080 Laptop, RTX 5070 Ti Laptop, RTX Pro 4000 Blackwell, RTX Pro 3000 Blackwell, Nvidia H200
  • Added support for AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE, AMD Ryzen AI IGPU (Krackan and Strix Halo)
  • Added support for Intel Arc A750E and A580E
  • Added support for Moore Threads S3000 MTvGPU-1108

KitGuru says: Do you think AMD will eventually release the Radeon RX 9070 GRE worldwide?

Baldur’s Gate 3 gets 12 new subclasses with new patch next week

Larian Studios hasn't finished up work on Baldur's Gate 3 just yet. The studio has issued seven major patches for the game, adding all new content and gameplay for players looking to jump in for another run. All good things must come to an end though, with the game's final patch now set to rollout.

Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 was first announced in November last year, with Larian confirming that it would indeed be the final major update to the game. Now, after months of testing, the patch is ready to rollout for PC and consoles on the 15th of April.

Patch 8 will introduce split-screen multiplayer on Xbox Series S consoles, a huge achievement given the fact that at one point, the Xbox version of the game was almost cancelled due to difficulties getting this feature working on Xbox Series S. Microsoft eventually made a concession to its Xbox Series X/S parity rules, enabling Baldur's Gate 3 to release on Xbox Series S without split-screen, while the more powerful Xbox Series X had the feature at launch.

More excitingly for fans, this patch also adds 12 new subclasses to the game, opening things up for even more creative and diverse characters. Cross-play multiplayer is also coming with the new patch, as well as a Photo Mode.

KitGuru Says: Are you still working your way through Baldur's Gate 3? Are you planning on starting a new character once the new subclasses release?

Xbox and Activision reportedly bringing back shapeshifting action-game Prototype

Since acquiring Activision, Fans have been hopeful that Xbox will look to bring back some long-lost IP. It would seem that Prototype could be first in line for such a revival.

Prototype first released in 2009 and was followed by a sequel in 2012. The Prototype games follow the story of Alex Mercer, a human shapeshifter that can transform into anyone, or use his abilities to wreak havoc. Unfortunately, the games did not reach Activision's lofty sales goals and as a result, Prototype was put on ice.

Prototype made a brief return in 2015, when both original titles were ported to Xbox One and PS4, but this re-release did not end up leading to any kind of sequel.

As spotted by Insider Gaming, according to one redditor, a survey has begun doing the rounds, asking for input on Alex Mercer as a returning protagonist and the shapeshifting gameplay of the Prototype games. Unfortunately, there is no further information beyond this. If true, I imagine we'd be getting a Prototype reboot, rather than a sequel, as the original game is now over 15 years old.

KitGuru Says: Would you like to see Prototype return? Would you want to start fresh with a reboot, or jump right back into where things left off with Prototype 2?

Bungie reveals Marathon gameplay, Closed Alpha plans and September launch date

With the main Destiny saga wrapping up last year, Bungie has spent much of 2024 and 2025 focused on its next game – Marathon. A reboot of a classic 90s Sci-Fi shooter, Marathon (2025) is a PvP multiplayer focused title, releasing in September.

Marathon was officially revealed to the world yesterday with a deep dive gameplay trailer. In my opinion, the game looks too much ‘like Destiny' and I believe some casual fans will end up confusing the games for being set in the same universe. Whether or not this is by design remains to be seen but so far, Bungie has offered no suggestion that Destiny and Marathon are somehow narratively linked.

Marathon will put players in the shoes of a ‘runner', a person that has given up their human form to obtain supernatural abilities. Players will be popped onto maps either as solo runners, or in squads and then the goal from there is to loot as much as you can and escape the map alive, without being shot down and looted by an enemy squad.

The game releases for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles on the 23rd of September. Alpha testing begins soon, so if you want to try the game out early, you can sign-up to participate in the invite-only playtests. While Bungie has not yet announced a price tag for the game, they have confirmed it will be a “premium title” but not a “full priced title”. With that in mind, it is likely to be priced similarly to last year's Concord, which sold for $40.

KitGuru Says: As much as I want Bungie to succeed and return to its glory days, from what I've seen so far, I don't think Marathon is going to be the game to make that happen.

Thermaltake launches revised Steel Shadow AIO coolers in Europe

Thermaltake has introduced a revised version of its Steel Shadow Tough liquid cooler series in Europe, featuring subtle but significant changes. In Europe, the new series will be named LA(S) and available with 240mm and 360mm radiators.

As noted by Cowcotland, the core design, including the large, magnetically attached top panel for easy installation, appears to be the same. However, the fans have received a noticeable upgrade, operating within a speed range of 600 RPM to 2500 RPM and delivering 79.3 CFM airflow and 3.45 mmH2O static pressure. Moreover, the fans incorporate a daisy-chaining mechanism that simplifies PWM and RGB connection.

The most significant difference between the LA (240 and 360) and the LA-S (240 and 360) AIO liquid coolers is the display on the latter. While the LA series has a water block cover with the Thermaltake logo and lighting, the LA-S uses a 2.4-inch display with CPU metrics.

The Thermaltake LA series starts at €74.90 for the LA240 model and increases to €84.90 for the LA360. As for the LA-S series, the LA240-S model goes for €84.90 and the LA360-S model for €94.90.

KitGuru says: Considering their feature set, the new Thermaltake AIO CPU coolers sure look cheap. Would you go for the LA or the LA-S AIO liquid coolers?

Mafia The Old Country launches on PC and consoles in August

Back in August, we received the first teaser trailer for the next Mafia game. Rather than a sequel, we are getting Mafia: The Old Country, a prequel that explores the origins of the Mafia families. Last night, an update to the game's Steam Store listing revealed that the game will become available one-year on from its initial reveal.

Mafia: The Old Country is a prequel, set years before the events of the first game. This is essentially an origin story, set in 1900s Sicily, presenting a gritty mob story during an era that was particularly dangerous and unforgiving for those involved.

Mafia: The Old Country will become available for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S starting on the 8th of August, roughly one year on from the game's original announcement.

All eyes are on publisher Take-Two and its subsidiaries this year. Take-Two owns 2K Games, which is publishing Mafia. With the game arriving in August, it seems likely that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be coming in the October-November timeframe.

KitGuru Says: Are you looking forward to the next Mafia game?

Sharkoon introduces the affordable SGH20 and SGH25 wired gaming headsets

Sharkoon has expanded its Skiller headset lineup with two new offerings: the SGH20 USB and the SGH25. Both headsets aim to provide immersive audio and comfortable wear, catering to different user needs and budgets, even if both are still entry-level.

The Skiller SGH20 USB headset presents a design with dynamically changing RGB lighting. The headset uses 50mm drivers and connects via USB for a straightforward setup with PCs. For extended gaming sessions, the SGH20 has soft synthetic leather ear cushions designed to seal around the ears, while the cushioned headband aims to distribute weight evenly. The flexible microphone can be easily positioned for clear voice transmission.

Priced higher, the Skiller SGH25 offers a different set of features. It also uses 50mm drivers and a USB connection, but instead of synthetic leather, it uses cloth for the ear cushions. As such, it remains comfortable even in warmer environments. Moreover, the SGH25 features an inline controller integrated into the cable, providing volume and microphone control, and circumaural earcups to isolate noise and provide a snug fit. The adjustable headband is designed to adapt to various head sizes and shapes. Another extra of the SGH25 over the SGH20 is the detachable microphone.

The Skiller SGH20 is priced at €19.90, while the Skiller SGH25 is positioned as a more budget-friendly option, costing €19.99.

RTX 5070 drops below MSRP in UK, Custom RTX 5080 drops to under £1000

When the RTX 5070 first launched in the UK, it held a £539 MSRP. Now, we are starting to see RTX 5070 drop below MSRP for the first time in the UK. We are also starting to see RTX 5080 pricing settle at under the £1000 mark.

The Gainward GeForce RTX 5070 Python III is currently on sale for £518.99 in the UK, putting it around £20 below the launch MSRP price. The RTX 5070 is a solid GPU for 1080p and 1440p gaming, but inflated launch prices hampered opinions a bit. Getting one below MSRP improves things from a price to performance standpoint, particularly for anyone who skipped RTX 40.

For those after something a bit faster, the Palit RTX 5080 Gaming Pro is currently at its cheapest price. We reviewed the card at launch and at the time, it cost over £1100. Now a few months on, it is available and in stock for £999.95.

KitGuru Says: We'll keep an eye out for more GPUs dropping below MSRP in the months ahead.

Wind Waker HD could still come to Switch 2, claims Nintendo

Over the course of the Switch’s life cycle, Nintendo ported pretty much every single Wii U exclusive to the console, offering enhanced resolutions and sometimes additional content. One of the few games to never see such a remaster was The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Despite the fact that the GameCube version of Wind Waker is coming to Switch 2 through NSO, the company claimed that a more comprehensive port could happen in future.

Following the confirmation that Wind Waker would be coming to Switch 2 through the system’s new Nintendo Switch Online GameCube emulator, many fans were left fearing that the well-received Wii U port of ‘Wind Waker HD’ would be ignored as a result.

Wind Waker HD Nintendo

In an interview conducted by Kinda Funny’s Tim Getty towards Nintendo of America's senior vice-president of product development [Nate Bihldorff], it was revealed that Wind Waker HD could still come to Switch 2, with Getty later stating:

“I did ask if having The Wind Waker on Nintendo Switch Online precludes it from the Switch 2 getting the actual Wii U port at some point, and he was very quick to say ‘no, all options are on the table.'”

Of course, Wind Waker HD coming to Switch 2 could be a monkey’s paw situation at this point, given the current pricing strategies for Nintendo’s ports. Still, Wind Waker HD was an excellent title, and so it (and Twilight Princes HD) deserve to be deshackled from the Wii U’s dying grasp.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the Switch 2’s NSO line-up? What did you think of the changes made for Wind Waker HD? How much do you reckon Nintendo would charge for a proper Switch 2 port? Let us know down below.

Insider reveals the impact of HBO’s The Last of Us on game sales

With Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us mere days away, buzz surrounding the upcoming series has begun to bubble up. Ahead of this, one insider has shared just how much the success of the first Season impacted game sales.

Back when Season 1 of HBO’s The Last of Us first dropped, we received some indication as to the synergistic impact of the show on its videogame sales performance.

Though a rather slim section of the market, it was reported at the time that the UK boxed sales for The Last of Us Part I spiked by 238% following Season 1’s premiere.

The Last of Us Game

Ahead of the second season, we’ve now gotten much more comprehensive statistics, with Christopher Dring of The Game Business revealing that Season 1 resulted in two particular spikes in sales – after the season premiere (38%) and during the finale (75%).

Even amongst those who already owned the games (or perhaps had access through PS Plus), monthly active players skyrocketed – going as high as a 1000% month-over-month increase for TLOU Remastered; 440% for TLOU Part II and 347% for the PS5 console exclusive Part I Remake.

With Season 2 just a couple days away, it will be interesting to see how the game sales are impacted this time round – and whether Part II will see the highest bump.

Vampire Survivors gets massive free update with over a dozen new weapons and much more

Since its initial release back in 2022, Vampire Survivors has continued to thrive through the consistent release of DLC – both free and paid. Available right now, the free Emerald Diorama update has gone live; featuring a dozen new characters, weapons and much more.

Making the announcement on Steam, the team at Poncle officially unveiled the Emerald Diorama DLC. Available right now, this expansion is made in collaboration with Square Enix’s SaGa RPG franchise and features 12 new characters; 16 weapons; 9 music tracks; character parties and the new World-Weaving Stage.

Beyond this, the game has also gotten a more general update. Named The Coop, this introduces a new relic which allows you to speed up the game alongside two brand new Adventures (with 6 chapters each); a new stage; character; weapon and more.

Last but not least, Vampire Survivors has finally gotten full cross-save support, allowing you to seamlessly play between PC, Xbox, Android and iOS. Unfortunately, Switch owners will have to wait a bit, and PlayStation players may be left out of cross-save entirely. Poncle’s full statement on the matter can be found HERE.

Regardless, this represents a massive update for Vampire Survivors, especially given the fact that every addition is pretty much free. Hopefully the cross-save situation on PS4/5 gets resolved as soon as possible.

Nvidia RTX 50 graphics cards now also using SK Hynix GDDR7 memory chips

It's known that Nvidia has been using Micron and Samsung GDDR7 chips to power the RTX 50 series. However, a new player has now joined their ranks, with SK Hynix now supplying GDDR7 memory for newly manufactured RTX 50 series graphics cards.

It's important to clarify that Nvidia doesn't actually use the memory chips. While board partners ultimately procure and install the memory chips, Nvidia often selects the memory vendors. This practice stems from cost-efficiency, as purchasing GPUs and memory in bundles can be more economical.

According to MEGAsizeGPU, Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 GPUs now support memory from three manufacturers: Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.

To identify the memory vendor on a specific graphics card, users can run GPU-Z, which provides detailed information about the installed memory chips. You can also disassemble the card to see what memory modules are installed. However, this may void the warranty or damage thermal pads, so it's better to stick with GPU-Z.

KitGuru says: With one more memory manufacturer producing memory chips for Nvidia, do you think the availability of these cards will improve?

Gigabyte registers upcoming Radeon RX 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti GPUs with RRA

Gigabyte has registered its upcoming Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card variants with the RRA (South Korean Radio Research Agency), signaling their readiness for release. Moreover, it registered various RTX 5060 Ti cards, but to our surprise, all were 16GB variants.

There's a notable disparity between Gigabyte's planned offerings for Radeon and GeForce GPUs. As spotted by @harukaze5719, Gigabyte intends to provide a diverse range of GeForce RTX 5060 Ti models, including Eagle, Windforce, Gaming, Aero, and even Aorus Elite options. However, its Radeon RX 9060 XT lineup is more limited, featuring only Gaming models, one with 16GB VRAM and another with 8GB. Additionally, the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti SKUs do not include any 8GB variants.

The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and the Radeon RX 9060 XT are expected to be available in 16GB and 8GB memory configurations. However, the memory technology differs: the RTX 5060 Ti will use GDDR7, while the Radeon RX 9060 XT will use GDDR6. Both cards are projected to employ a 128-bit memory bus, resulting in a bandwidth of 448 GB/s for the former and 320 GB/s for the latter.

The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti is anticipated to launch next week, while a firm release date for the Radeon RX 9060 XT is still unknown.

KitGuru says: Out of the two upcoming mid-range GPUs from Nvidia and AMD, which one are you the most curious about? Are you planning on getting one of them?

Bungie confirms you won’t need a PSN account for Marathon on PC or Xbox

Bungie is gearing up for its big Marathon reveal next week. While owned by Sony, Bungie is in a unique position, as it has more independence than other first-party PlayStation studios. As a result, Marathon will be one of the few PlayStation PC titles that does not require a PSN account.

As spotted by Eurogamer, Marathon won't require a PSN account in order to play. Initially, some fans were concerned about the possibility of the game requiring users to make a PSN account, which would lock players from hundreds of countries out of being able to play the game. Bungie addressed the issue head-on in its Marathon Discord Server, stating that “Marathon will not require a PlayStation account for players on PC and Xbox”.

Marathon Bungie

Initially, Sony did not have any PSN requirements for its PC games. However, shortly after the successful launch of Helldivers 2 on PC, Sony changed tactics and implemented PSN account logins for Helldivers 2, and upcoming (at the time) titles like Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök and Ghost of Tsushima. This led to those games being unpurchasable in hundreds of countries, as PSN is only supported in a handful of regions.

Eventually, the backlash to this led to Sony backtracking on its PSN account requirements. Helldivers 2 no longer requires a PSN login to play and in January, Sony announced plans to remove PSN log-in requirements for its big single-player games too, including the likes of Spider-Man 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.

KitGuru Says: Given that Sony threw in the towel on PSN account enforcement in January, it would seem there was still some concern around Marathon. I'm not sure this concern was warranted at this stage, but at least Bungie was quick to address it.

Nearly 50% of Overwatch quitters moved to Marvel Rivals

It was clear from the jump that Marvel Rivals was looking to dethrone Overwatch. The game delivers team-based 5v5 gameplay, with a focus on synergising heroes and their abilities to win the map objective, with a focus on competitive gameplay. As it turns out, Marvel Rivals may well have succeeded.

Marvel Rivals was a hit from day-one, amassing millions of players following its launch in December 2024. Where did many of those players come from? Overwatch – at least according to the games market analysts at NewZoo.

According to their latest industry report, 45 percent of the Overwatch 2 players who stopped playing in December 2024 did move over to Marvel Rivals instead. I have to say, this is true within my own circle of friends too, where former Overwatch die-hards are now regularly logging hours on Marvel Rivals instead, so I have little trouble believing this figure.

As spotted by Insider Gaming, the report also notes that despite only releasing in December, Marvel Rivals had the eighth highest total playtime of any game on Steam in 2024.

Blizzard has previously addressed the increased pressure the Overwatch team now faces, admitting that Overwatch 2 had ‘not evolved' as much as it should have. Following Marvel Rivals' success, Blizzard has been trying to bring players back in with events like Overwatch: Classic, bringing back the old 6v6 game mode with two tanks per team.

KitGuru Says: Free to Play games now dominate the console and PC gaming markets, not just the mobile space. Once established, it is incredibly difficult to dethrone one of these titles. The interesting thing will be whether or not Blizzard can really win players back without starting over again with an Overwatch 3.

HBO renews The Last of Us for Season 3 ahead of Season 2 premiere

We are just days away from the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2. The first season was a critical success and was well received by fans old and new. The second season has already begun receiving high-scoring reviews and now, HBO has confirmed plans for Season 3.

Speaking with Variety, The Last of Us series co-creator, Craig Mazin, confirmed that season 3 has already been ordered, stating: “We approached Season 2 with the goal of creating something we could be proud of. The end results have exceeded even our most ambitious goals, thanks to our continued collaboration with HBO and the impeccable work of our unparalleled cast and crew.”

Currently, the plan appears to be to squeeze “one or two more seasons” out of the source material available. With The Last of Us Part 2 leaving plenty of plotlines open for future exploration, if the show is popular enough, it could end up going beyond the scope of the games.

Despite the popularity of the games and the TV series, Last of Us game director, Neil Druckmann, has stated that Part 3 is not in development. Naughty Dog has a different game in the works at the moment, a new IP called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

KitGuru Says: Season 2 is set to be seven episodes long. Depending on how much further the showrunners want to take the series, we could see The Last of Us wrapped up with a slightly longer third season, or two more seasons of similar length to the current seasons.

Persona 3 Reload gets surprise demo featuring hours of content

Back in early February of last year, ATLUS released Persona 3 Reload – the much anticipated remake of their classic PS2/PSP JRPG. The game went on to achieve one of the studio’s biggest launches ever. In case you missed it however, ATLUS has now released a demo for Persona 3R – featuring hours of content and full save-transfer.

Available across PlayStation, Xbox and PC, this demo is of course free to download and includes quite a bit of content.

Letting you experience the opening months of the game’s story, the P3R demo takes you all the way up to the Priestess boss – translating to roughly 6-8 hours of gameplay.

Persona 3 Demo

As mentioned, the demo also includes a save-transfer option, letting you pick up where you left off if/when you choose to purchase the full experience.

In alignment with the release of this demo, Persona 3 Reload is currently on sale (on PlayStation at least), going for 50% off.

If you have yet to try Persona 3 Reload (or any Persona game at that), now is as good a time to try one out.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Persona 3 Reload? Where does it rank compared to P4/P5? Who’s your favourite Persona character of all time? Let us know down below.

Alphasync Prebuilt Review: Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RX 9070 XT

Ebuyer has relied on AMD for the central components in this AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC. The CPU is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is the best gaming processor that money can buy while the graphics are Radeon RX 9070 XT. Our review PC came with a Sapphire Pulse graphics card and the result was a fine gaming experience. In the main we were very happy with this PC but we came across a couple of quirks during our review and one of them could well be a deal-breaker.

  • Storage: WD Black SN850X 2TB Gen 4 M.2 NVMe

Testing and Performance

Geekbench 6 Multi Core

In Geekbench 6 Multi Core we see the AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC performs at exactly the level we saw in our review of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is precisely what we expect.

AIDA64 Memory Bandwidth

AIDA64 Memory Bandwidth throws up an interesting result as the Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 memory kit performs very well.

Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p

Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p shows the AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC performing well, the results are good and very playable.

Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p

When we turn up Cyberpunk 2077 to 1440p, the GPU can't match an RTX 4090 – as we'd expect – but nonetheless the frame rate is very good and the gaming experience is great.

Closing Thoughts

The component parts used in the AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC are solid choices from reputable brands, however the motherboard lets the side down. We don't mind the choice of B650 chipset over X670, B850 or X870 however the features of this Asus Prime are very basic. The absence of USB-C ports on the rear I/O panel crosses a line that we cannot forgive and we hope to goodness that Ebuyer ups the spec of this system, even if that costs an extra £100 on the retail price.

We were very happy with the build quality of the AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC and could find no flaws. On the configuration side of things we raised a question over the absent software from Asus and Corsair as we expect to be able to control RGB software. The solution, as you can see in our video, was to do the job ourselves and the end results were very pleasing.

You can buy the Ebuyer AMD AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC for £2,200 HERE.

Pros

  • Good gaming performance.
  • Build quality is very good.
  • Plenty of SSD storage is included.
  • Pricing is fair.

Cons

  • There are no rear USB-C ports and only one at the front.
  • Armoury Crate and Corsair iCUE not installed so RGB lighting is fixed.

KitGuru says: AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC is decent enough but is let down by the USB support.

Switch 2 pre-orders have now been postponed in China

In the wake of new tariffs put in place by Donald Trump, Nintendo quickly announced that pre-orders for the much-anticipated Switch 2 would be delayed in the USA, followed shortly by Canada. It seems more regions are set to have their pre-orders rejected, with China now also being impacted.

In a report published by Nikkei (and translated by ResetEra user Uzupedro), Nintendo has now postponed pre-orders for its Switch 2 in China – marking the 3rd region to be affected following the USA and Canada.

Interestingly, it seems as though this indefinite delay is not due to the aforementioned tariffs, with the report claiming that the move is in fact as a result of “sluggish” sales for the OG Switch in the region.

Switch 2 pre-orders

Of course, video game consumption is regulated quite heavily in China, with both the systems and games themselves being rigorously analysed by the government before business can proceed.

That being said, it wouldn’t be surprising if the tariffs added an extra spanner into the works. We will have to wait and see how Nintendo ultimately chooses to navigate this situation.

KitGuru says: What do you think of all these delays? Will the Switch 2 launch in June as expected? Will prices go up in the USA/Canada? Let us know down below.

Sony finally adds (limited) support for themes on PS5

Partway through the PS5’s life-cycle, the console maker announced and released the Welcome Hub – a convenient page which holds a ton of different customisable widgets. While the PS5 has yet to get any proper themes, said welcome hub offered its own suite of – rather basic – visual customisation. In a ‘welcome’ move, the Welcome Hub has gotten around a dozen new themes.

As discovered by Genki_JPN, the PS5’s Welcome Hub has been updated for some users, offering them a ton of new and cool themes.

Previously, alongside the basic backgrounds, users could apply an Astro Bot-styled animated theme. Now however, it seems Sony is looking to expand the options greatly.

Though no official announcement has been made (and is currently only available to select accounts), the PS5’s Welcome Hub has added 11 new animated themes for the following titles:

  • Days Gone
  • Demon's Souls
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Ghost of Yotei
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Horizon: Call of the Mountain
  • Horizon: Forbidden West
  • Lego Horizon Adventures
  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Stellar Blade

PS5 Themes

Interestingly, a number of popular PlayStation exclusive franchises are not yet represented, with contemporary games such as The Last of Us; Returnal; Helldivers II and more missing from the list.

Regardless, having more customisation in any form is welcome to see. Hopefully Sony officially announces and releases this update to all sooner rather than later.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the Welcome Hub? Is this a solid way to reintroduce themes to PlayStation? What game would you like to see get its own theme? Let us know down below.

April’s PS Plus Extra/Premium line-up includes a ton of heavy-hitters

Each month, Sony updates its PS Plus Extra and Premium libraries with a line-up of current and classic games. For the month of April, subscribers can get their hands on a strong selection of PlayStation titles – including Hogwarts Legacy; Blue Prince and more.

Available to add to your library in a staggered form (due to a couple day-one releases), the first PS Plus Extra title will drop on the 10th of April – that being the highest rated game of the year so far ‘Blue Prince’.

The other day-one addition is Lost Records: Bloom and Rage Tape 2, set to arrive on the 15th of April. The remainder of the library will also be added on the 15th – these titles being:

  • Hogwarts Legacy | PS4, PS5
  • EA Sports PGA Tour | PS5
  • Battlefield 1 | PS4
  • PlateUp! | PS4, PS5
  • Alone in the Dark 2 | PS4, PS5 [Premium]
  • War of the Monsters | PS4, PS5 [Premium]

PS Plus Extra

Of course, easily the biggest game in the list is Hogwarts Legacy, with the 2023 title going on to push over 34 million copies – putting it right behind Breath of the Wild as one of the best-selling games of all time.

Beyond this, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage Tape 2 is the second half of DONTNODs most recent choice-based adventure title; with Blue Price currently sitting as the highest rated game of 2025 so far.

All in all, April seems to mark a strong month for PS Plus subscribers. Hopefully PlayStation manages to keep this up for the rest of the year.

The Last of Us Season 3 announced ahead of Season 2 premiere

The Last of Us Season 2 is almost upon us, with reviews for the second series matching the heights of the first. With a little under a week to go until the show’s premiere, HBO has already renewed The Last of Us for a 3rd Season.

Making the announcement on Instagram, the official Naughty Dog page confirmed that a Season 3 of HBO’s The Last of Us has been greenlit, writing: “It can’t be for nothing. Season 3 is coming. #TheLastOfUs.”

As mentioned, ahead of its premiere, reviews for the full Season have gone live, with a Rotten Tomato score almost matching that of Season 1 (92% vs 94%).

The Last of us Season 3

Regardless, a 3rd Season was likely to happen as the upcoming Season 2 was already confirmed to be just one part of the second game’s story. Still, this announcement seems to indicate a level of confidence in Naughty Dog and The Last of Us from HBO.

It will be interesting to see what fans think when Season 2 premieres on the 13th of April.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to Season 2? How do you think they’ve split up the story? Should it follow the same pacing as the game? Let us know your thoughts down below.

CD Projekt Red absorbs The Molasses Flood

CD Projekt Red acquired indie studio, The Molasses Flood, a few years ago and ever since, the team has been working on a secret multiplayer project set in The Witcher universe. Now, The Molasses Flood has been completely absorbed by CDPR, meaning the entity ‘The Molasses Flood' no longer exists.

The Molasses Flood is no more. Yes, the office and the team that works there are all still around, but now, it is just another CD Projekt Red studio, with no brand identity of its own. This also means that the studio no longer operates independently as part of the ‘CD Projekt Red Group' and is instead wholly controlled by the CDPR headquarters.

The situation was clarified in a statement on the studio's website, saying: “We want to let you know that on April 1, 2025, The Molasses Flood (TMF) merged with CD Projekt Red Inc. (CDPR Inc.), a company being a part of the CD Projekt Group. As a result of the merger TMF, in its former legal state (of a separate legal entity) ceased its operations, while CDPR Inc. assumed the rights and obligations of TMF.”

While The Molasses Flood is now just another CD Projekt studio, the company's old games, The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow, will continue to be available on PC and consoles, published by CD Projekt Red.

KitGuru Says: I've been keen to see what this studio has been up to with Project Sirius for a few years now. Hopefully we get a peak at that game in the not-too-distant future.

PlayStation Portal update enables console-free cloud gaming

The PlayStation Portal was a confusing device to many. The handheld was primarily designed to be a companion to the PS5's in-home streaming feature, allowing you to play your console in any room of the house and freeing up the TV for others to use. Now, the Portal is about to get a crucial upgrade enabling proper cloud gaming.

The latest update for the PlayStation Portal has been detailed. The headlining feature is the introduction of the Cloud Streaming feature, allowing PlayStation Plus premium members to stream games to the Portal from the cloud, with no need for an in-home console. The Portal will be able to access the full PS+ cloud library, which includes select PS5 titles, along with a slew of back-catalogue games from previous generations.

The PlayStation Portal now has quality of life updates for other features. Users can now record gameplay clips from the Portal, queue and pause features have been added to help manage demand on the cloud game servers, and a new user-feedback screen has been added so users can give feedback on their experience with the Portal directly to Sony, which will aid them in planning future updates.

The PlayStation Portal is available for £199.

The Xbox Games Showcase returns in June with deep dive into The Outer Worlds 2

The Xbox Games Showcase is indeed returning in June. The big showcase will focus on a number of major first and third-party games coming to Xbox and PC in 2025 and 2026. Each year, Microsoft has a key game that gets a little bit more marketing than the rest. In 2023, it was Starfield, followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in 2024. In 2025, Microsoft's big game is none other than The Outer Worlds 2.

The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 will air on the 8th of June at 6PM UK time. Immediately after the main event, Microsoft will go live again with a deep-dive stream showing off The Outer Worlds 2, the sequel to Obsidian's hit 2019 Sci-Fi RPG.

Typically, the Xbox Games Showcase runs from anywhere between 90 minutes and two hours, so it will be a chunky show with many, many game announcements. It will be immediately followed up by more gameplay from The Outer Worlds 2, which is miraculously coming out this year, despite Obsidian only just shipping Avowed, its new fantasy RPG, in February.

We are unlikely to get a huge showing for the long-awaited Fable reboot at this year's showcase, as the game was just recently delayed to 2026. Gears of War E-Day is also anticipated to release in 2026.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft will no doubt have some surprises in store for this year, as the company's massive army of studios appears to be firing on all cylinders, delivering new first-party games every few months.

Trade tariffs seemingly put a stop to Razer Blade laptop sales in the US

The US Administration has opted to place tariffs on many countries across the world. As a result, we've seen many products being pulled from sale. The Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders were recently pulled in the US so Nintendo can assess the impact the new tariffs will have. Now, Razer has paused sales of its Razer Blade laptops in the US too.

Currently on the Razer store, you cannot order a Blade laptop within the US. All of the buy buttons have been replaced by a ‘Notify Me' button, and it is unclear when the laptops will become available to purchase direct from Razer once again.

While not officially stated, the timing of this pause does raise the question – is Razer reassessing its pricing in the face of massive tariffs from the United States?

Currently, the US is the only country where Razer Blade laptop sales have been paused. You can still order them directly from Razer in Europe, and as Hot Hardware points out, they remain available in Australia too.

This move comes at an odd time, as Razer was just about to make its new flagship Blade laptops available, kitted out with the latest generation CPUs and new RTX 50 series graphics.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Businesses across the US are still assessing how much of an impact these tariffs will have. We expect to see Blade laptops made available again in the States eventually, but for now, anyone that was hoping to get their hands on one will have to go through other retail channels, or the second-hand market.

Nintendo America president says ‘buy Switch 1’ if you are unhappy with Switch 2 price

Back when Microsoft announced the Xbox One, Don Matrick gave an infamous interview quote, telling those that couldn't afford the upgrade that they could still purchase an outdated Xbox 360. Now, Nintendo is taking a leaf out of that same playbook, telling those upset about the Switch 2 price that they are still free to purchase an original Nintendo Switch.

Speaking with CBC, Nintendo of America president, Doug Bowser, gave the quote that we will assuredly be talking about for months, saying: “We recognize there are some people that may not be able to afford [the Switch 2's] price point. That's why we wanted to make the other Switch platforms available, so [people] still have an opportunity to come into our gaming universe, be a part of these characters in these worlds, and see value, if you will, in whatever rung of the platform they come in.”

The problem with this is that the Nintendo Switch hardware is already on its last legs and each passing year, the game's exclusive games continue to look and run worse. With the Switch 2 offering so much more power, there are going to be a lot of games releasing over the next couple of years that simply won't run on an original Switch, so the idea that the Switch 2 is interchangeable with the new console is a ridiculous one.

As we see with each console generation transition, there will be cross-gen games released for the first year or two, but after that two-year mark, the vast majority of developers will have transitioned over to the newer hardware and games will no longer release for Switch 1. By the time that happens, it is unlikely that the market will have changed enough to result in significantly cheaper pricing for those looking to upgrade to the Switch 2. As we've seen with the PS5, we're already five years in and the base console's price has not yet received a permanent cut. There is no reason to believe that the situation will be any different for the Switch 2.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: I'm not a fan of how Nintendo has handled this transition from Switch 1 to Switch 2. From the £10 digital instructions manual, to the £20 ‘upgrade packs' for games like Breath of the Wild, to the insane £80 price tag of Mario Kart World.

Blue Prince becomes highest-rated game of 2025 so far

Blue Prince is shaping up to be one of the standout games of 2025. The game appears to be this year's big roguelite hit, taking over the mantle from Balatro, which dominated much of 2024.

Blue Prince is a roguelite first-person puzzle game where players explore a mysterious 45-room mansion in search of the elusive 46th room. The mansion resets its layout daily, adding a layer of complexity and intrigue to the gameplay.

Blue Prince has gone on to become the best-reviewed game of 2025 so far, a pretty lofty achievement in a year where we've seen major releases like Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Split Fiction and Avowed in just a few short months.

Blue Prince currently sits as the highest-rated game of the year on both Metacritic and Open Critic, although it is just one point ahead of Split Fiction, the latest co-op hit from famed director, Josef Fares.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: For the last few years, we've consistently seen a big roguelite breakout hit, starting off with Hades in 2020 and followed by the likes of Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire and Balatro. Blue Prince seems to be the breakout indie game of the year so far.

Team Ninja promises performance improvements with Rise of the Ronin PC patch

Rise of the Ronin had a good reception when it first launched on PS5 but unfortunately, the same can't be said for the PC version. The game launched on Steam a few weeks ago after one-year of PS5 exclusivity and so far, the reviews have been largely mixed.

On Steam, the game currently has a mixed overall score based on over 3000 user reviews. Many of the reviews call out the game's poor performance, with players struggling with lag, frame rate spikes and dips, as well as other issues. The overall impression is that the game was not properly optimised for PC hardware.

Tomorrow on April 10th, Team Ninja will begin rolling out a new patch for the game that aims to address performance issues but it seems unlikely that everything will be fixed with one update. The game is likely to need months of additional testing and optimisation work to reach a state the majority will be happy with.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Team Ninja has had its issues with PC ports in the past. Nioh is a good example, although there was a big improvement for Nioh 2. Unfortunately, it seems Rise of the Ronin also needed a bit more time in development and came to PC a bit too soon.

Corsair launches web-based firmware updater so you don’t have to install iCUE

Corsair has launched its new, browser-based tool for firmware updates, offering a streamlined alternative to iCUE. This move aims to simplify the perceived complexity of firmware updates, particularly for users less familiar with PC peripherals.

Corsair states that this web-based utility is a response to customer feedback, providing a more convenient method for updating firmware on compatible Corsair mice, keyboards, and other devices. While iCue remains the primary software for accessing the full range of customisation options, including lighting control and advanced settings, this new tool caters to users prioritising quick and easy firmware upgrades.

Corsair emphasises that the web-based updater ensures users have access to the latest firmware versions. Users can also opt to provide their email addresses to receive notifications about future firmware releases. The initial release of the web-based firmware updater supports a selection of Corsair devices, with Corsair promising to expand compatibility to include both new and existing devices and introduce new features in the near future.

The web-based tool is optimised for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (such as Edge and Opera) and is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems. Corsair is also currently testing Linux support.

Starting this month with Season 8, Belial, the Lord of Lies returns to Sanctuary. Aside from the new boss fight, players can expect revamped boss systems and a new event known as an “apparition incursion”, a boss-rush mode where you can earn unique powers from each of the bosses.

In July, Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim will drop, adding Horadric powers to the game and introducing dungeon escalation mechanics. This season will also see the introduction of keyboard & mouse support for the game on consoles.

Finally, Season 10: Infernal Chaos will run from September to December and will replace your seasonal powers with Chaos-themed abilities. This season will include an overhaul to Infernal Hordes, a new IP collaboration event and a new unlockable pet.

In 2026, Blizzard will begin ramping up towards the next major expansion for Diablo 4, which should include a new playable class. 2026 will also see the introduction of a new ranking and leaderboard system.
