A collector of classic computers has worked on a 3D printer filament designed to color-match classic Macintosh casings, which should help future restoration projects.


The 3D printer has become an invaluable part of classic computing restoration, due to its ability to replicate parts of casings that need replacing. Being able to create a one-off print of a part that simply isn't being manufactured anymore has been extremely useful to projects restoring older hardware.

However, while you can create the replacement part, it may not necessarily look like the original. Lines from filament deposit layers aside, there's the problem of getting the actual color of Apple's plastic correct.

New regulatory filings show that Apple has produced two updated MagSafe charging pucks, which both support the Qi 2.2 standard that means the iPhone 17 could theoretically charge wirelessly at almost double the speed previously possible.


The new chargers are an update to the existing 25W MagSafe charger that was released alongside the iPhone 16 range. The Qi 2.2 standard supports a maximum 50W charging speed, though these two new models appear to be rated at 45W.

As first spotted by 91mobiles in a filing with the Taiwanese regulatory authority's NCC database, the two chargers are the same design as the previous 25W model. They are round pucks, measuring approximately 100mm or just under four inches.

There are now two ways to create Memories movies in Photos as of iOS 18.1 or later: one method is the same way you have done it in previous iOS versions, and the new one leverages Apple Intelligence if it's available on your device.


To use the latter method, you'll need to have an iPhone that is capable of supporting Apple Intelligence. This means an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model.

Qualcomm's CEO doesn't seem to be worried about losing one of its biggest customers as Apple shifts to in-house modems like the C1 for iPhone.


For over 15 years, Qualcomm's modem chips powered Apple's iPhones, enabling wireless connectivity to cellular networks. Analysts estimated that Apple paid over $2.5 billion in 2024 alone for Qualcomm's patent licenses, while the company's annual modem revenue from Apple is said to be between $5.7 billion and $5.9 billion.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, in an appearance on Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid podcast, spotted by 9to5mac, revealed that the modem company is prepared to look well beyond the iPhone. Qualcomm's plans are based on the assumption that Apple will continue to use in-house modems going forward, meaning that the chipmaker will have to explore alternative avenues.

Apple must continue to allow apps to link out and avoid its App Store commission during its appeal against an injunction resulting from the Epic anti-steering ruling.


Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Apple willfully violated an injunction against its anti-steering practices in the Epic vs Apple case. Even though Apple was compelled to remove its anti-steering rules, the new rules were too aggressive for developers to bother supporting.

According to a report from Reuters, Apple's request to pause enforcement of the judge's ruling during appeals failed. The U.S. appeals court denied Apple's request, where it shared that "we strongly disagree."

While governments around the world made a record number of iPhone push notification data requests in 2024, Apple approved a smaller share.


According to Apple's latest transparency report, global government requests for push notification data climbed from 119 in early 2023 to 277 by mid-2024. But the company approved far fewer of them, with its approval rate dropping from 76% to just 59% over that period.

The data shows that while authorities are increasingly turning to push tokens as a source of account-level information, Apple is responding with growing restraint.

Apple's eventual rollout of Apple Intelligence in China has hit delays, thanks to regulatory issues raised in response to President Trump's tariffs.


Apple has been working with Alibaba to bring its Apple Intelligence suite of generative AI features to iPhones in China. While the two tech giants have worked together on the project, it has hit a roadblock that has forced a delay in its introduction.

According to a report on Wednesday morning by the Financial Times, applications from Apple and Alibaba to release the AI features have not gained the approval of the Cyberspace Administration of China. The regulatory rubber stamp is required in China by law, which prevents Apple from adding them to iOS.

Previously unknown details of California's deals with local firms have been released, showing that Apple has been paid millions in tax refunds by Cupertino to stay in the area.


If it weren't widely reported in detail before, it was at least public knowledge that Californian regions such as Cupertino pay back some sales tax to local companies. What hasn't been clear before is how much that payback amounts to.

According to Bloomberg, the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) under a new state law, showed that Apple received $64.7 million from Cupertino since 2013. Going back to a previous 1998 deal, Bloomberg research estimates that Apple has received almost $120 million.

Smartphone theft is on the rise — not just in America, but globally. Both Apple and Google have claimed that they've taken exhaustive steps to make smartphone theft a less profitable endeavor, but UK MPs aren't buying it.

As The Guardian points out In 2024, 80,000 phone devices of all kinds were stolen in London alone, up roughly 25% from 64,000 in 2023. The devices had a street value of 20 million — about $27 million.

Epic Games chief Tim Sweeney complains that "Fortnite" should not have been off the App Store for so long, ignoring the fact that he willfully violated Apple's terms of service.


Back in 2020, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store, while makers Epic Games cried foul and made out that this was big brother-style interference, done with no notice or warning. It was soon revealed that Epic Games had not only knowingly violated its App Store contracts, but had also spent months planning the violation, the protest, and its accompany video.

Subsequently, Apple won every scintilla of its legal case against Epic Games, bar one concerning anti-steering. And Apple managed to mishandle that one loss that the company was ultimately forced to allow the game back onto the App Store.

Developers using the Godot game engine will soon be able to build for the Apple Vision Pro, as visionOS support is actively being tested after Apple staff offered support.


Godot is a free and open-source game engine that, in April, caught the attention of Apple. A good-natured request from Apple to help add visionOS support to the game engine has borne fruit just over a month later, with it now being beta tested.

On Monday, Godot release coordinator Thaddeus Crews posted to the official blog about the fifth developer beta of Godot 4.5, the next release of the engine. With a content freeze on the horizon for the update, the post discusses some of the highlights of the release.

The Enhanced Visual Search in the iOS Photos app sends encrypted, anonymized data from photos to Apple. Here's what that means and how to turn it off.


Apple's Enhanced Visual Search (EVS) is a new ML-based technology in iOS 18, iPadOS, and macOS Sequoia. Using EVS you can search for geographical landmarks in photos, even if the images don't contain any geolocation info such as GPS or EXIF metadata.

Using EVS in the Photos app, you can type a landmark name in and the app will scan your photos for matching landmarks. You can also swipe up on any building in an image and tap Look Up Landmark. If Photos recognizes the landmark it will tell you what it is.

A new report claims that the Apple Vision Pro could gain support for spatial controllers in a future visionOS update, amplifying a previous leak suggesting support was coming soon.


The Apple Vision Pro currently supports game controllers used with the Xbox and PlayStation, but only for Apple Arcade games. That could soon change, however, as a new report claims that Apple has plans to add support for spatial controllers with a future visionOS update.

Back in December 2024, a different rumor suggested that Apple had approached Sony in an attempt to implement support for the PlayStation VR2 controller. The A20 chip widely expected to debut in the iPhone 18 Pro and folding iPhone will take advantage of a new packaging technique, on TSMC's 2nm chip fabrication technology.


Rumors about the iPhone 18 generation are already spreading, even though we have yet to see the iPhone 17 range. However, the future model could be packing some design changes involving packaging.

According to GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, Apple should be using the A20 chip for the release of the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Fold. This makes sense, as the A20 is two generations away from the iPhone 16 range's A18 chip family.

Less than a week before WWDC, Apple has revealed the winners of the 2025 Apple Design Awards, honoring the best apps in the App Store.


The Apple Design Awards are Apple's way of celebrating the best apps and games that have been submitted to the App Store. Announced as usual just before WWDC, the list includes 36 finalists and 12 winners, with one app and one game winning across six categories.

The introduction of an Apple Store in a country is a strong sign of interest by Apple to expand sales in the territory. If talks result in action, the first retail Apple Store could eventually open up in Egypt.

Apple Director of Government Affairs for the Middle East and Pakistan Omar El-Rifai met with the Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, on June 2, according to Egyptian Streets. The meeting was about Apple's presence and potential growth in the country.

Apple is researching how AirPods could use sensors like the ones used in Face ID to read the user's lips and process what the user wants, even if there isn't a spoken request.


Apple has been looking into the idea of AirPods detecting gestures for more than five years, including how such detectors could learn a user's unique movements. In 2024, the first significant result of this research came with how AirPods Pro could detect when a user nods or shakes their head.

Now in a newly granted patent, Apple has revealed that it is aiming to go further. The "Wearable skin vibration or silent skin gesture detector" patent proposes using what it calls self-mixing interferometry to recognize more nuanced gestures.

The expected fifth season of Apple TV+ espionage drama "Slow Horses" has been announced, with Gary Oldman returning in the lead role.


Some 15 months after Apple ordered a fifth season of the thriller, it has now been revealed to begin streaming from September 24, 2025. It's based on "London Rules," Mick Herron's sixth novel in the "Slough House" series, which was published in 2018.

The six-episode season continues the story of Jackson Lamb (award-winning Gary Oldman) and his team of spies, all rejects from the UK's MI5. In "London Rules," Apple says that a "series of increasingly bizarre events" occur across the city — and somehow Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) has a girlfriend.

A new report from a leaker with a mixed track record says that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air may get a high-refresh rate display, but it won't be ProMotion.


ProMotion is the display technology that allows for the screen to refresh at different rates, to accommodate different needs. So for games or video, the screen or portions of it, can be faster and more responsive, while at other times it saves battery power with slower refreshing.

The feature was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, and has remained a Pro model feature. But since February 2024, persistent rumors have said that ProMotion will come to every model in the iPhone 17 range.

Apple Intelligence is now integrated with OpenAi's ChatGPT in macOS, ad well as iOS and iPadOS. Many features of ChatGPT are integrated with Apple apps starting in macOS Sequoia 15.1, and iOS and iPadOS 18.2.

While Apple has stated support for Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT are evolving and still in progress, some features are working and included in Apple's operating systems. Expect a further phased rollout of Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT in the near future.

Sunday night baseball games may soon be available via Apple TV+, as the company is reportedly seeking to land additional MLB streaming rights.


Apple has reportedly emerged as the company most likely to acquire Major League Baseball streaming rights previously held by ESPN. The iPhone maker currently offers Friday Night Baseball via Apple TV+, which consists of two baseball games every Friday without interruptions or restrictions, but that could soon change.

According to a Sports Business Journal report on Monday, Apple is looking to land streaming rights for MLB content beyond the scope of its current arrangement. Legacy media outlets such as NBC are also said to be in talks with MLB over the same streaming rights, but Apple's offer is said to be noticeably higher.

Starting with whether it will be called macOS 26 or macOS 16, there are so many rumors about what the next update to the Mac operating system will bring. Here's what's expected, and most likely to happen.


The only certainty is that the next major update to macOS will be announced on June 9, 2025, during the WWDC keynote. Beyond that, it is now looking highly likely that this successor to macOS 15 Sequoia will be called macOS 26 — and it's strongly rumored that it will be announced as macOS Tahoe.

If Apple does name macOS after a region in California, it will be continuing the now 12-year-long tradition. Previously, the then-called OS X was named after cats for around 11 years.

The classic first-person-shooter game "Doom" has been ported to an unexpected Apple product, with the three decade old Apple Network Server the latest hardware to be added to the compatibility list.


The Apple Network Server is a piece of hardware that, until May 2025, was not able to run ID Software's Doom. Thanks to an enterprising blogger, the game can be played on it.

Sold from 1996 until 1997, Apple Network Server was separate from the Macintosh lineup, as machines designed instead to run IBM's AIX operating system, not Apple's operating systems. Sold for over $10,000 at the time, they were the last non-Macintosh desktop computers that Apple made.

While the higher-profile DOJ antitrust lawsuit against Google continues, the company has reached a provisional settlement over similar accusations from its shareholders.


The Department of Justice continues to want Google to be broken up, and that case may be ruled on by August. But separately, shareholders led by two pension funds, took Google to court over antitrust violations, and according to Reuters, that case may now have been settled.

Google and the shareholders have reported agreed a settlement that will see the company commit half a billion dollars into overhauling its compliance structure. That investment is said to be spent over the next 10 years, though the settlement mandates that such compliance changes must stay in place for at least 4 years.

Apple has launched a WWDC placeholder video on YouTube where users can choose to be notified ahead of the live stream.


Just as it has before, Apple has begun its WWDC promotion on YouTube with an upload one week before the keynote, which streams on June 9, 2025. It's a regular YouTube Premiere, which means a holding image is available at the link, and there's also the option to turn on notifications.

The placeholder "a sleek peek at what's to come this WWDC," but the punning title is the event's strapline, rather than a promise of anything actually being shown before the keynote. "Set a reminder, turn on your notifications, and we'll send you an update before the keynote begins," it continues.

The tech industry already has a lot of chatbots, but so far Apple has yet to do the same. Rumors have proposed that Apple is working on its own entry into the market, but it has so far not publicly revealed such a service, outside its Siri integration with ChatGPT.
