Jony Ive and Sam Altman's startup "io" was bought in May 2025 by Altman's OpenAI company, and is working on a new AI device. Prior to being bought, Laurene Powell Jobs invested in "io," and in a new Financial Times interview with both of them, Ive reveals that she has been crucial to his post-Apple work, including forming his own LoveFrom company.

"If it wasn't for Laurene," said Jony Ive, "there wouldn't be LoveFrom."

Like its previous OS versions that denoted significant changes, Apple is rumored to give the upcoming macOS 26 the name of a particularly notable California location.


Apple is reportedly overhauling the look of its various OSes with its next set of releases, expected to arrive in the fall of this year. Adopting the nomenclature of vehicle models, the company is set to jump from version numbers to reflecting the year ahead of release.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, macOS 26 will adopt the name Tahoe, after California's Lake Tahoe resort area.

The upcoming WWDC keynote may not help raise the profile and functionality of Apple Intelligence much, with a report claiming Apple's AI announcements will be sparse, and disappointing.


Following the introduction of Apple Intelligence at WWDC in 2024, the AI effort at Apple has endured an agonizingly slow and rocky rollout. While the 2025 event offers an opportunity for Apple to turn things around, a report offers little hope that Apple will do just that.

According to Sunday's "Power On" newsletter from Bloomberg, sources within Apple believe that WWDC will be a disappointment form an AI perspective. In the wake of the Google I/O keynote offering massive new AI features and advancements, WWDC could make Apple seem like it is falling behind the rest of the industry.

A new report claims that internally, Apple has already been testing Large Language Models for Siri that are vastly more powerful than the shipping Apple Intelligence, but executives disagree about when to release it.


Backing up AppleInsider's position that Apple is not behind on AI, the company has regularly been publishing research showing its progress moving the field forward. Now according to Bloomberg, Apple has already been working with AI systems considerably more power than the on-device Apple Intelligence it has shipped so far.

Specifically, the report says that internally, Apple is using multiple different models with ever greater complexity. Apple is said to be testing models with 3 billion, 7 billion, 33 billion, and 150 billion parameters.

A leaker has broken from the pack, and is now saying that the core iPhone 17 will stick with the already released A18 chip, while the rest of the line gets chips derived from the A19.


It's generally accepted by the vast majority of leakers that the entire iPhone 17 line, including the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro, will boast the A19 chip, with varying amounts of RAM.

Now in a new note to investors, Jeff Pu from GF Securities is recanting one of his previous reports. He is now going against every other leaker in saying that the core iPhone 17 will stick with the A18 processor found in the iPhone 16 lineup.

While the iOS 18 update focused largely on Apple Intelligence features, such as Image Playground, email summarization, and a new Clean Up tool in the Photos app, its successor is expected to take a noticeably different approach.

Apple rejected nearly two million apps in 2024, cracking down harder than ever on fraud, spam, and low-effort software.


The company rejected 1.93 million app submissions in 2024, according to its App Store Transparency Report, released in May 2025. The annual report outlines how Apple enforces App Store policies and manages content across its global platform.

Apple reviewed approximately 7.7 million app submissions in 2024, rejecting over 1.9 million for failing to meet its standards. Nearly one in four were denied, typically for violating rules around performance, design, or business practices.

Apple's iPhone has taken a bite out of Hollywood horror, playing a key role in the visual storytelling of the new "28 Years Later" movie.

Just hours after courts allowed the "liberation day" tariffs to continue pending appeal, President Donald Trump is claiming that China has violated a preliminary trade agreement with the US.


In a post on Truth Social, the President claims that the 90-day tariff pause resulted in already-closed factories, and "civil unrest" in the country — neither of which appear to have happened. The post on Friday also says that China has violated whatever agreement was in place for a 90-day pause in tariffs presently in place.

Haptic buttons are coming not just for the iPhone, but also devices including the iPad and the Apple Watch, as Project Bungo is said to have been revived.


In 2024, AppleInsider exclusively proved that Apple had intended for the iPhone 15 Pro to feature haptic buttons, replacing its physical ones. The design even reached Apple's EVT-stage prototyping, and was later revealed in a patent application.

The so-called Project Bongo was reportedly cancelled because of continuing technical problems. Reportedly, test results were unsatisfactory, and there were high hardware failure rates.

Showrunner and executive producer Jonathan Tropper has been signed to his third exclusive deal with Apple TV+, following the success of his latest Jon Hamm drama.


Tropper is currently writing a forthcoming "Star Wars" movie, but was previously the showrunner on "See," which he joined in 2019, and then had his Apple TV+ deal renewed in 2022. According to industry publication Deadline, Tropper has now signed his third consecutive and exclusive deal with Apple TV+ for television projects.

"See," created and written by Steven Knight, concluded in 2022. Since then, most of Tropper's Apple TV+ work has been on projects that have yet to start streaming, such as the limited series called "Lucky," based on Marissa Stapley's novel.

A U.S. trade court ruled that President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs were illegal on Wednesday, but the administration has been granted a temporary stay until arguments are filed.


The Trump administration implemented wide-ranging and incredibly high tariffs throughout its initial weeks of being in power. After a lot of back and forth, exemptions, threats of new tariffs, and a lot of uncertainty, the madness seemed to be ending thanks to a U.S. trade court ruling.

That respite was short-lived, however, as CNBC reports that an appeals court has stayed the permanent injunction until June 9. That's the deadline for both parties to file arguments about the case, and the courts will then decide if a longer stay is in order during appeal.

Apple is allowing emulators on the App Store. Here's what's arrived, and what's on the way to play your favorite retro games on your iPhone, updated on May 29.


The early April changes to the App Store Review Guidelines reversed a rule that practically banned emulators from the App Store. After the rule was removed, it was expected that there would be a sudden rush of emulators being submitted to Apple for inclusion in the digital storefront.

Emulators for the iPhone have existed for a while, but outside of the App Store as a side-loadable app. With Apple's changes, some of the projects are making the transition, and potentially gaining more traction from a larger user base in the process.

The iPhone 17 could end up with a larger display than the iPhone 16, with a new supply chain rumor reinforcing previous rumors of a 6.3 inches diagonal screen.


The iPhone range has different sizes of display, depending on the model. For the iPhone 16 generation, the smallest was 6.1 inches diagonally, but the size of the standard model could be a bit bigger in the iPhone 17 family.

According to a subscriber post on X from DSCC founder and Counterpoint Research VP Ross Young, the screen of the base iPhone 17 will be bigger than that of the iPhone 16. Specifically, the iPhone 17 will be shifting from 6.1 inches in the previous model to 6.3 inches.

Perhaps to fight off the ire of legislators worldwide about App Store fees, Apple says that it has grown the global economy and collected commissions on under 10% of platform transactions in 2024.


More than 90% of the $406 billion in commerce linked to the App Store in the United States in 2024 didn't result in any commission for Apple. That's one of the headline findings in a new economic report ahead of WWDC 2025, which shows how the App Store has become a hub for far more than digital downloads.

The timing is deliberate. Apple is releasing the report it sponsored just before WWDC 2025, likely aiming to reframe public and regulatory perceptions of how much it earns from the App Store.

Despite a US trade court ruling that Trump's "reciprocal" tariffs are illegal, Apple investors have unexpectedly failed to react to the news, likely assuming there is more chaos to come.


The new court ruling came as the stock market has faced unprecedented volatility following Trump's April 2, 2025, launch of "reciprocal" tariffs. Those April 2 tariffs were ultimately followed by a 25% tariff levied by Trump ostensibly to punish Tim Cook for not attending an event.

Apple stocks are currently fluctuating, although trending downwards after a very slight surge overnight. At time of writing, the shares were at $201.58, up barely a half-percent on the day.

Apple is planning to add a third official Apple Store to its roster in India, cementing the country's status as important for the growth of its iPhone sales and manufacturing.


There are currently two Apple Stores in India, with Apple Saket in New Delhi and Apple BKC in Mumbai serving customers in the region. As always, Apple has intentions to expand its presence in India, with its third potentially opening in Bengaluru.

According to lease documents seen by Business Standard, Apple has leased an 8,000 square foot space in Bengaluru's Phoenix Mall of Asia. This is less than half the space of the 20,800 square foot BKC store, but will be about the same size as the Saket location.

Users relying on Asus routers may still be exposed to a stealth backdoor campaign, even after updating firmware.


Asus routers have been compromised in a stealth backdoor campaign that persists even after firmware updates, according to cybersecurity firm GreyNoise. The firm disclosed its findings May 28 after coordinating with government and industry partners.

GreyNoise first discovered the campaign March 18, 2025, using its AI-powered network analysis tool, Sift. The system flagged anomalous HTTP POST requests targeting internet-facing Asus routers running factory firmware.

The so-called reciprocal tariffs imposed on "Liberation Day" and the trafficking-related tariffs have all been ruled an illegal overreach by the President and have been blocked by a U.S. trade court.


There has been a lot of volatility with Apple, big tech, and United States businesses since the April 2 "Liberation Day" tariffs imposed by President Trump. While many of the obscenely high tariffs have been lowered since, a global baseline of a still-high 10% has been in place.

According to a report from Reuters, a U.S. trade court has ruled that President Trump overstepped his authority. While it doesn't pass judgement on whether the tariffs would work as intended, the court does say they are not allowed according to federal law.

Unless you've gone looking in System Settings, you may not be aware that the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 models can be set to do other functions besides set up and take a picture. Here's how to change it.


By default, pressing the Camera Control button launches the Camera app on the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Once open, pressing the button again will take a picture, or pressing and holding will shoot video.

A light press on the Camera Control button once the Camera app is open gives users a haptic click and the ability to adjust settings like zoom level or exposure. It operates sort of like the dials or on-screen controls in DSLR cameras.

Apple's macOS 26 is set to debut on June 9 at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers' Conference, but owners of older MacBook Pros and iMacs won't be able to experience the next-gen operating system.


The successor to macOS Sequoia is expected to launch alongside iOS 26, formerly referred to as iOS 19. Both operating systems are said to feature user interface changes somewhat reminiscent of visionOS, and people familiar with the matter have told AppleInsider this will indeed be the case.

However, not every Mac user will be able to enjoy the visual changes and Apple Intelligence enhancements within macOS 26, codenamed "Cheer." Individuals familiar with Apple's internal operating system variants and pre-production builds of macOS 26 suggest Apple could drop support for multiple older, Intel-based Macs.

A new video of a dummy of the forthcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max has surfaced, backing up previous rumors that the model will be significantly thicker than the current model.


The news that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would have a thicker chassis than the current iPhone 16 Pro Max was first reported in March 2025. It was also reported that this model would get an advanced vapor chamber cooling system, which might account for the increased size.

That cooling feature is expected to be in both of the new Pro models, but as yet there hasn't been news that the iPhone 17 Pro will also be thicker. The new video being circulated by leaker Majin Bu solely shows a dummy of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but it does appear to confirm the extra thickness.
