Factorio Switch 2 upgrade announced, adding Mouse Mode support and more
One of the biggest new features introduced with the Nintendo Switch 2 was the Joy-Cons’ Mouse Mode, allowing you to control supported titles as you would on a PC. So far, only a limited selection of titles have made use of the feature. Fortunately, one game set to receive the Mouse Mode treatment is the construction / management sim Factorio.
Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Wube Software officially confirmed that Factorio is set to come to Switch 2 some time later this year – “aiming for a December release.”
The Switch 2 version of Factorio will be a free upgrade to all those who own the original Switch release and as mentioned will include Mouse Mode support; a highly appreciated addition for a PC-focused isometric management sim.
Beyond this however, the rest of the Switch 2 enhancements are as follows:
- Increased resolution to 1080p in handheld and 4k on a TV
- Variable refresh rate support for the console's screen
- Some higher quality animations
- Some higher resolution sprites
- Other visual improvements
- Faster loading times
- Ability to build much larger bases
As mentioned, the Switch 2’s Mouse Mode has been a rather underutilised feature so far, and so it is exciting to see the functionality being used to make games which require precision more easily controllable. Hopefully mouse mode becomes a ubiquitous addition to most-if-not-all future Switch 2 games.
