Expirion Linux is a Devuan-based desktop distribution which offers LXQt and Xfce desktop editions. The project provides separate releases built from the latest "stable" and "testing" branches of Devuan, with runit and SysV as init system options. Expirion ships with a more recent kernel than Devuan and it also adds some user-friendly touches, custom themes and wallpapers, as well as productivity applications, such as LibreOffice, Chromium, Firefox, Thunderbird, Audacity, Brasero and VLC.

TROMjaro is a Manjaro-based Linux distribution with a customised Xfce desktop. Compared to its parent, TROMjaro offers several user-friendly utilities, such as Layout Switcher with six different layouts or Theme Switcher with several accent colours. It also provides various enhancements, including the integration of the Chaotic-AUR repository with pre-built binary packages, a selection of custom wallpapers and icon packs, and extra configuration options in Settings Manager. The distribution comes with support for AppImage files and a heavily-tweaked Firefox browser with custom add-ons.

Fedora 44 Looks To Drop i686 Support: No More Multi-Lib / x86 32-bit Packages

Fedora Linux for a while already stopped building i686 kernel releases and dropped their dedicated i686 repositories while now for the Fedora 44 release there is a proposal to take things further: finish gutting the i686 support. The new change proposal seeks to no longer include packages built for the i686 architecture and thereby dropping multi-lib support for 32-bit packages on 64-bit hosts. There wouldn't be any packages built any longer for i686 under this F44 proposal...

RefreshOS is a user-friendly Linux distribution based on Debian's "Stable" branch and featuring the KDE Plasma desktop. Some of its main features include extended driver support, a polished user experience, and a refined system performance. The distribution ships with the Brave web browser, LibreOffice office suite, GIMP image editor and various popular applications for productivity and creativity tasks. RefreshOS maintains a clean environment that is free of Snap and Flatpak packages.

Mauna Linux is a Brazilian desktop Linux distribution based on Debian's "stable" branch. The project offers a set of live images with four desktop environments - Cinnamon, LXQt, MATE and Xfce, plus a separate "Christian Edition" which includes the Bible and various applications meant for use in churches. Some of the distribution's main features include the Calamares system installer, a software store with hundreds of applications maintained by Debian and Mauna Linux, a software manager and updater, and an out-of-the box support for the Portuguese language. The goal of Mauna Linux is to develop a distribution that is easy to use, practical and robust, and which would complement the existing Linux user communities in Brazil and abroad.

Intel Xeon 6300 vs. AMD EPYC 4005 SMT/HT Performance

While the latest Intel Core Ultra processors have done away with Hyper Threading (HT), Intel Xeon CPUs continue supporting HT/SMT, including with their latest Xeon 6300 series budget server processors. As the new AMD EPYC 4005 "Grado" processors also support Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) and can be found at the same core/thread count count as the flagship Xeon 6369P processor, it makes for an interesting look at comparing the SMT/HT performance impact and power efficiency. Here are some benchmarks showing the Xeon 6300 against the AMD EPYC 4005 in SMT performance.
