Cloud Hypervisor 46 Deprecates SGX Support, Google To Take Over TDX Maintenance

While the open-source, Rust-based Cloud Hypervisor project was started by Intel as a modern VMM for cloud workloads and focused on security, some Intel CPU features are now bit-rotting. In turn the new Cloud Hypervisor 46 release has deprecated support for Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) while even their modern Trust Domain Extensions (TDX) feature is in jeopardy but now with Google engineers set to takeover that code...

05/23 NixOS 25.05

NixOS is an independently developed GNU/Linux distribution that aims to improve the state of the art in system configuration management. In NixOS, the entire operating system, including the kernel, applications, system packages and configuration files, are built by the Nix package manager. Nix stores all packages in isolation from each other; as a result there are no /bin, /sbin, /lib or /usr directories and all packages are kept in /nix/store instead. Other innovative features of NixOS include reliable upgrades, rollbacks, reproducible system configurations, source-based model with binaries, and multi-user package management. Although NixOS started as a research project, it is now a functional and usable operating system that includes hardware detection, KDE as the default desktop, and systemd for managing system services.

  • un exemple d’utilisation très parlant dans la doc ;

Mesa Will Stop Building Gallium-XA By Default

Back in April Mesa deprecated Gallium Nine alongside the XA state tracker used for X.Org Server acceleration. Gallium-XA was developed by VMware for use with their DDX driver for accelerating X11 within their virtualized environments. XA isn't really used these days and the generic GLAMOR code is in much better shape. Thus Mesa is now no longer building the XA code as the next step toward its removal...

Mozilla Kills Pocket & Fakespot to Focus on Firefox

Mozilla is shutting down Pocket, the “read it later” service it acquired in 2017 and integrated into the Firefox web browser. Pocket shuts down on July 8, but existing users and paying subscribers will be able to export saved stories until October 8, 2025. After that, finito. “Pocket has helped millions save articles and discover stories worth reading. But the way people save and consume content on the web has evolved, so we’re channeling our resources into projects that better match browsing habits today,” they say. Why kill it? The driver, they say, was so it could “…focus our efforts […]

Ubuntu 25.10 Will Ship with the Linux 6.17 Kernel

Day-by-day we’re learning more on what to expect in Ubuntu 25.10 ‘Questing Quokka’, the next short-term release of Ubuntu due for release in October. Today, Canonical’s Kleber Souza, member of the Ubuntu Kernel Team, confirmed the plan is to ship the Linux 6.17 kernel in Ubuntu 25.10 – barring any unforeseen upstream hiccups, of course. As we’re yet to see the release of the Linux 6.15 kernel, and 6.16 is yet to enter development, committing to a version so far out may seem a bit optimistic. But it tracks. Last year Canonical made a major change to its kernel cadence […]
