We check and test each code before we add them to our article. However, when copying them, you can sometimes accidentally include an extra space somewhere. This is why you should always double-check that there aren't any additional spaces!

But, if you'd prefer to search for some Grimoires Reborn codes on your own, you can check the dedicated Discord server. If you're already in the Discord for Grimoires Era, this is the same one.

What is Grow a Military in Roblox?

Grow a Military follows a similar concept as Grow a Garden where instead of planting flowers to sell, you'll create a massive army to generate money. You can then use that money to buy new troops like Enlistees, Troopers, and even jets. Eventually you'll have enough money to fortify your plot with walls like sandbags and concrete barriers to boost your earnings.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Review

It’s a great time to be a fan of soulslikes. Between the fantastic The First Berserker: Khazan earlier in the year, the excellent Lies of P: Overture DLC last month, and the multiplayer/co-op focused Elden Ring: Nightreign, we have been eating well in 2025 – and you can add Wuchang: Fallen Feathers as yet another course in that meal. This debut game from developer Leenzee Games impressed me from the start with its exciting, fast-paced, and dynamic combat. It also has one of the best skill trees in the genre, along with intricate and interconnected level design that guides us through gorgeous vistas and grotesque sights in equal measure. That said, its difficulty is all over the place, with truly wild dips and spikes that go from a relative walk in the park, to “oh my god, when is it my turn to attack?!” levels of aggression in some of its later bosses. So while I’m left with a little whiplash after beating it, it’s still an easy strong recommendation for anybody who’s hungry for more.

In typical soulslike fashion, Wuchang expects you to do the heavy lifting when it comes to piecing together its story and lore – but it’s not handled quite as elegantly as a FromSoft game or something like Lies of P. I was actually on board for the intriguing opening, which shows our titular, mostly silent hero awaken in a cave to discover she has a disease that robs those afflicted of their memories and gradually turns them into hideous monsters. What starts as a personal journey to discover who she is and cure her affliction before she mutates into a nasty bird beast turns into a descent into dark fantasy as the mysteries of the disease, known as The Feathering, start to come to light and you do battle with those transfigured by its effects.

Lore fiends who enjoy digging into item descriptions might get more out of the story.

That was a good start, but by the end of its 45-hour campaign, I’d lost track of the many characters who pop up, say a few lines of dialogue, and then disappear for 10 or so hours until they pop up again in a completely new location. People kept referencing names that I’d never heard of before, making it impossible for me to follow the conversation. Lore fiends who enjoy digging into weapon and item descriptions for clues might get more out of the story than I did, but playing through it the same way I have many other games meant its big revelations largely fell flat.

A Game of Skills

Combat, though, had the flexibility and depth to carry me through to the end in style, with a ton of different offensive and defensive options at my disposal at all times. Where Wuchang sets itself apart from others that use the familiar stamina-fueled light and heavy attacks to get you from checkpoint to checkpoint is its huge focus on combining the skills and abilities that are tied to your weapons with Discipline skills you unlock on the absolutely massive skill tree. For instance, equipping the sword parry Discipline skill while using the Flamebringer Longsword weapon will let you build up the burn status ailment with its Infernal Firebrand Weapon Skill while also giving you a defensive counter option on top of that. Or you could pair that same weapon with something like Crescent Moon, which still gives you that same burn build ability, but also allows you to get in and then get out to avoid counter attacks all together while still being able to build Skybound Might with it’s built in evade. On top of that, you can swap between two weapons mid-fight, even mid-combo, which doubles your options.

It’s good that you have these extra options, too, because this is not a game where you can get by with just the basics, especially when it comes to the tougher fights. Powering your skills and spells hinges on generating a resource known as Skyborn Might, which is gained mostly by perfectly dodging enemy attacks at the last instant, but can also be gained in certain weapon-specific ways, such as landing the fourth hit of a light combo string with the Axe, the second hit of a light combo string with the Longsword, clashing weapons with the dual blades, or automatically over time simply by having the one-handed sword equipped.

I felt like I usually had more interesting decisions to make with each level up than I do in most soulslikes.

I had a blast discovering ways to incorporate both Weapon and Discipline skills into combat to get around limitations like stamina, since using a Skyborn Might charge often gives you a powerful attack that doesn’t deplete your meter, or lets you blow through an enemy’s strong defense with a poise break-afflicting mist and take huge chunks out of their health in seconds. I felt like I usually had more interesting decisions to make with each level up than I do in most soulslikes when it came to defining my build.

A big part of that is how instead of just boosting your preferred stat and making numbers go up each time you get enough currency to level, Wuchang uses a progression system that resembles the Sphere Grid from Final Fantasy X and Salt and Sanctuary. It has six paths to go down and unlock progressively more powerful skills, with five being devoted to stat and weapon upgrades enhancing each of the different types of armaments, and the last one focusing more on more universal boons, like extra healing charges, general buffs for executing certain techniques, etc. The grid is absolutely gigantic, and even 20 or 30 hours into the 45-hour campaign I was still unlocking brand-new branches with new Discipline skills and tons more upgrades to choose from. That’s a lot, but thankfully respecs are free, allowing you the freedom to change up your entire build with zero cost or penalty, whether to simply try out a new weapon or alter your game plan against a challenging boss. It’s an excellent system that encourages experimentation while also rewarding you for having a clear idea of what kind of build you want to make.

There’s a fairly impressive amount of different types of enemies as well, with each area you visit packing plenty of new twisted creatures with a brand-new set of attacks and skills that you’ll need to learn how to adjust your build and your tactics to deal with. Everything in this game can be threatening: from the small hunchbacked dudes that go down in just one or two hits, but can sneak up on you with a hugely damaging grab, to the towering fiends that are almost like minibosses unto themselves. This variety kept the action fresh throughout the whole adventure and kept me tense whenever I would venture in a new area, since I never knew what to expect around the corner.

Bumpy Roads

For the first 10 or so hours, though, I didn’t have to do a ton of build tweaking to breeze through most of these fights. That wasn’t to say that it was a walk in the park, but I’ve played a lot of soulslikes in my day, and once I got the hang of dodging through the last hit of an enemy combo and charging up a heavy attack to instantly stagger them, I initially felt like I had figured Wuchang out.

The deaths that I did experience mostly came from an abundance of some cheap-feeling “gotcha” moments like: Pots that aren’t really pots, trees that aren’t really trees, and shrines that aren’t really shrines.

To be fair, lots of soulslikes have moments like these, but in Wuchang it happens with such frequency that it felt like I was getting constantly pranked by the developers – and at a certain point that joke gets old.

Other than that, it was mostly smooth sailing until I came across a boss called Commander Honglan. She wasn’t so much a difficulty spike, because that implies at least some degree of an incline or ramp up, as she was like running into a brick wall. She took me about two hours to beat, and while I still came out on the other side of it having mostly enjoyed the intensity of the fight, Honglan serves as a non-spoilery encapsulation of what I don’t like about several of Wuchang’s later boss fights.

Honglan wasn't so much a difficulty spike, because that implies at least some degree of an incline or ramp up.

The biggest issue is that the punishment window for correctly and precisely dodging most of their attacks is super tight, which takes away from the satisfaction of actually being able to dodge a huge sequence of swings. Compare that to games like Sekiro or Khazan, where you’re damaging the boss’s posture bar every time you precisely block an attack, getting closer to being able to do a damaging critical hit once you completely drain it. There’s no such satisfying mid-fight progress here, because perfect dodges just give you Skyborn Might charges, which you still need to find an opening to be able to use. Wuchang does have a posture meter on enemies, but it only increases when you land hits and decreases after a time if you don’t, which makes it extremely difficult to get that reward for nuanced aggression when your opportunities to deal damage are so minimal and so fleeting. Not every boss fight after Honglan is like this, but the ones that are feel very drawn out to a degree that diminishes their fun.

The Dark Descent

The world all of these ups and downs take place in is rich with secrets to discover, interconnected paths that satisfyingly link entire sections of the map together, and tough optional challenges with appropriate rewards. I loved the gradual descent into dark fantasy – you begin in a very colorful and beautiful Chinese village that is just showing subtle signs of the terrible illness sweeping through its population, and then as you progress deeper underground and through areas that have been absolutely ravaged by The Feathering it starts to feel more and more like a horror game.

There are also some really cleverly put together sequences that create tension and chaos even without combat being involved. One example is a section where you start on a straightaway with an enemy at the end who builds up an instant-killing status affliction called Despair just by looking at you. To evade his gaze and get through, I had to make a mad dash past a bunch of enemies, climb up a ramp while avoiding poisonous drops from the ceiling, and navigate around constantly spawning tough monsters that were created by another out-of-reach foe. It’s a great example of strong enemy design meshing with clever level design to create an absolutely intense sprint through a dangerous environment.

What is Rogueblox in Roblox?

Rogueblox is a difficult RPG with a combination of PvE and PvP content. That means you'll need to be prepared to fight anything from slimes and zombies to players out for blood. The world of Terra is fractured leaving a mess behind but also plenty to explore for quests to complete.

Players familiar with other difficult games like Rogue Lineage and Deepwoken will have an idea of what to expect going into Rogueblox. This RPG also has a permanent death system that can make it quite punishing for new players to learn. Fortunately, some codes can give you extra lives.

What is Mugen in Roblox?

Mugen is a fantasy fighting game where you can get a variety of fighting styles each with their own unique abilities. Many of these styles revolve around elements like Flame, Thunder, Water, and more. Each one has a few abilities and an ultimate one. You'll need to master your fighting style to survive against other players.

But it isn't that simple since you'll also have to learn the basics like dodging, blocking, and parrying at the perfect time. This is what makes every fast-paced fight a chaotic one where even the buildings around you can collapse.

The Alienware Aurora 16X RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop Drops to the Lowest Price Since Release

Alienware's new mainstream gaming laptop for 2025 is dubbed the "Alienware Aurora" and comes in two 16" models: the 16 and 16X. The 16X is the superior of the two and is on sale right now. Dell is currently offering the Alienware Aurora 16X gaming laptop equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and GeForce RTX 5070 mobile GPU for $1,799.99 after a $300 instant discount. That's the lowest price I've seen so far for the Aurora 16X laptop and RTX 5070 GPU combo (the previous low being $1900 during Alienware's Black Friday in July Sale that recently ended).

Alienware Aurora 16X RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop for $1,799.99

Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model

The Alienware Aurora 16X is the model that serious gamers should consider over the Aurora 16, especially right now when the Aurora 16 RTX 4070 laptop is the same price. There's little argument here; just look at the list of upgrades below:

  • Better display (2560x1600 240Hz G-Sync vs 2560x1600 120Hz)
  • More powerful CPU (Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX vs Intel Core 9 270H)
  • Higher RTX 5070 TGP rating and thus better performance (115W TGP vs 85W TGP)
  • More premium materials (metal alloy lid and chassis vs lid only)
  • RGB keyboard vs white-only backlighting
  • Thunderbolt 4.0 port

Compared to other Alienware laptops, the Aurora 16X is designed to look less like a gamer's laptop. It boasts a sleek, understated design with the absence of extraneous visual-only embellishments or unnecessary RGB lighting outside of the keyboard illumination. This is a solidly built machine with a metal (magnesium alloy) chassis and anodized aluminum lid and bottom shell. Under the hood, the Aurora 16X still packs a punch with powerful gaming components and a robust Cryo Chamber cooling system. It's much more affordably than an equivalent Alienware 16 Area-51 laptop, which costs $600 more. The Alienware Aurora 16X also weighs 1.6 pounds less and has a 30% thinner profile.

The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX is a top performing CPU

The Area-51 laptop is also equipped with a very powerful CPU as well. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz with a whopping 24 cores and 40MB total L2 cache. According to Passmark, this is the second most powerful Intel mobile CPU available right now and goes head to head with AMD's Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.

The GeForce RTX 5070 is 5%-10% better than the RTX 4070

The mobile RTX 5070 GPU performs about 5%-10% better than the RTX 4070 that it replaces. That's not a very big generational improvement, but the RTX 5070 also supports multi-frame generation, which means the margin will widen in games that support DLSS 4.0. If you want a significantly better performing Nvidia GPU, you'll have to pick up an RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080 laptop. Currently the Alienware Aurora 16 doesn't have an option to equip these GPUs, so you would have to pony up $900 more for the Area-51.

If you're in the market for a prebuilt gaming PC, Dell is one of the best brands we'd recommend. Alienware desktops and laptops feature solid build quality, top-of-the-line gaming performance, excellent cooling (further improved on the newer models), aggressive styling, and pricing that is very competitive with other pre-built options. Best of all, there are plenty of sales that happen throughout the year, so it's not difficult to grab one of these computers at considerably less than their retail price.

What is Build A Boat For Treasure in Roblox?

Build A Boat For Treasure focuses on almost exactly what the name of the game tells you. Your goal is to build a boat block by clock so you can travel farther down a river. While that may sound simple, it’s actually tougher than you'd think. This is because there are all sorts of obstacles that can get in your way and destroy your ship.

You'll need to carefully sail around barriers or prepare to ram through them if you have enough ship to do so. Just be careful of flying baseballs and other projectiles that can bounce you into the air. As you get farther, you'll earn more gold that you can then buy more parts with.

Framework 13 DIY Edition Review

Throughout their history, laptops have pretty much been viewed as time-limited commodities that users have to rely on the manufacturer for if they need support. Repairability and the ability to upgrade at home have always been limited. Framework has made it its mission to change that, and the Framework 13 laptop is its latest point in the case that things don’t have to be this way. I’ve spent the last month with the Framework 13 DIY Edition and not only is it fast out of the box, I have no doubt that I could upgrade it myself for as long as years into the future – or as long as Framework supports it. It’s clearly aimed at tech enthusiasts first and foremost – less so those looking for a gaming laptop – but is a product and mission I can get behind.

Framework 13 – Design and Features

At its core, the Framework 13 is a snappy little productivity machine that anyone can use. It’s lightweight, reliable, and its battery can last most or all of a workday depending on how heavily you use it. That’s important to know, because though Framework makes its name on its user-repairable and upgradeable design philosophy, being a techie isn’t required to use and enjoy one of its laptops.

The Framework 13 is available as a pre-built laptop or as a DIY Edition. The pre-built version comes ready to use out of the box like any other laptop, but if you don’t mind going hands on and putting 30-45 minutes into getting it ready to use, the DIY Edition offers options for an upgraded display and higher memory and storage.

If you’re worried about having to build a whole laptop on your own, don’t be. The DIY Edition is more of a learning exercise in how to perform the most common upgrades (memory and storage) and is completely guided using tutorials on the Framework website. You’ll also need to plug in the laptop’s expansion cards – Framework’s modular port and storage system – which use normal USB-C headers and are made for anyone to intuit just by seeing them.

The slogan “This isn’t our computer. It’s yours.” is the first thing you see on the Framework 13’s product page, and in that spirit, there are plenty of configuration options to choose from. I was sent a version with a screen upgrade which isn’t currently available in any pre-built configuration. It had the following specs.

  • Display: 13.5” IPS
  • Resolution: 2,880 x 1,920 (3:2 aspect ratio)
  • Refresh Rate: 120Hz
  • Brightness: 500-nits
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (12-core/24-thread)
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon 890M (Integrated)
  • Memory: Up to 96GB
  • Storage: Up to 8TB
  • Networking: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4
  • Ports: Modular, user can choose four expansion card choices, including: USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, MicroSD, Ethernet, Audio, 1 TB storage, or 250 GB storage cards
  • Audio: 2x 2W speakers, SNR MEMs microphone, hardware privacy switch, option 3.5mm audio jack
  • Battery: 61 Whr
  • Dimensions: 0.6" x 11.7" x 9.0"
  • Weight: 2.87 lbs

As you go through the customization process for the DIY Edition, there are options for most aspects of the system, but as of this writing, there’s nothing dedicated for gaming (I hope to see that come in the future). You can choose from three AMD AI 300 series processors that determine your base price, starting at the Ryzen AI 5 340 ($899), the Ryzen AI 7 350 ($1,229) and topping out with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 ($1,659). There’s definitely a premium that comes with the modularity and repairability this system offers, however. These prices range anywhere from around $100 more than similar competitors, like the Lenovo Yoga 7 on the low-end, to around $400 more for the Asus Vivobook S 14.

From there, you’re able to choose between two displays, a lower resolution 2,256 x 1,504, 60Hz screen and a higher-resolution 2,880 x 1,920 display with a 120Hz refresh rate. As of this writing, you’re only able to get the improved screen with the DIY Edition. For memory, you can choose anywhere from 8GB to 96GB of DDR5-5600 with your choice of one or two stick kits. Storage begins at 500GB, but if you don’t need much storage, the most affordable pre-built drops that to 256GB. You can also choose between Windows 11 Pro, Home, or no OS at all if you’d prefer to purchase your key elsewhere.

The DIY Edition also gives you the option of picking up a colored bezel for the display and provides the option for a wide range of international keyboard layouts.

The Framework 13 also brings back the modular expansion card system to customize its port selection. You can choose up to four with the laptop, including USB Type-A, USB Type-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, a card reader, headphone jack, Ethernet port, or devote one of those slots to additional storage, either 250GB or 1TB. Do note that you’ll need to devote at least one of those to a Type-C port for charging, however. If you think you’ll need more, you can buy extras and swap them out as needed.

Since the system is designed to be repairable, you can buy any additional part you might need through the Framework store after the fact, including a new motherboard or screen. This also opens the door to larger system upgrades in the future if you want a higher performance processor. The higher-end Framework 16 even has a modular GPU so you could add a dedicated graphics card for gaming. That particular add-on isn’t available for this model yet, but I’m hopeful that it might be available in the future.

Every upgrade comes with a tutorial on the Framework website, and the internal composition of the machine is designed to make maintenance as easy as possible. Something as simple as removing the bottom panel to access its internals can be a chore on other laptops, but is dead simple here and doesn’t require prying with a spudger like so many others. It’s five simple screws, captive so you won’t lose them, and it pops right off.

Once you’re inside, the location of the M.2 SSD and memory slots are clearly labeled. The memory is covered with some protective masking, so if you’re brand new, you should still have the tutorial on hand, but if you’ve built a desktop PC before, it’s straightforward enough that you can probably intuit adding these components with just the labels. Framework even provides a screwdriver, so you don’t need to worry about having the right tools either.

I’ve built more than a few PCs in my time and have reviewed a Framework laptop in the past, so I knew what to expect here. But even for a complete novice, the “DIY” portion of assembling the PC should only take around 15 minutes. You’ll spend more time installing and updating Windows, so don’t be intimidated.

Even as you get into more in depth repairs and upgrades, the Framework team has clearly gone to lengths to make the process as user friendly as possible. Replacing the keyboard, for example, doesn’t even require any tools once the chassis is open. It’s held in place by magnets and a single ribbon cable. But, unlike most other ribbon cables in laptops, it doesn’t end in a finicky, easy-to-break clamp and instead uses a straightforward plug. These small touches go a long way toward making the Framework 13 feel like something you could actually maintain yourself.

Once the system is up and running, I’m pleased to say that its performance lives up to its specs. The HX 370 I was sent is a known commodity at this point. I’ve personally tested it multiple times over and the Framework 13 is just as snappy and responsive as I’ve come to expect. For common productivity apps, web browsing, and entertainment like video streaming, it doesn’t disappoint. The experience is lag-free and pleasingly quiet (though it does ramp up in Performance mode).

The keyboard is fine and offers ample travel with 1.5mm keystrokes. There’s good tactility, but I found the bottom outs to be a bit soft. They’re also fingerprint magnets and need to be wiped down every few uses to not look greasy. The white backlight is also pretty dim and isn’t very visible in anything but dark lighting. I quite liked the touchpad, though. It’s large for the size of the laptop, measuring 4.5” x 3”, and has excellent click action that enhances its accuracy.

The Framework 13 isn’t intended to be an entertainment powerhouse, and its dual 2W speakers demonstrate this. While they’re fine for the occasional meeting or YouTube video, they tend toward tinny sound and don’t get very loud. Still, they’ll work in a pinch.

The laptop comes with a 1080p webcam. The quality is fine, though it doesn't stand out as anything special. The out-of-the-box tuning is a bit dark and oversaturated, but I was able to correct that and pull a more true-to-life image just by using Windows' built-in picture adjustments. Since it is standard fare for laptops, it doesn't handle bright rear lighting like a window very well, and definitely gets grainy and soft in the dark. For normal meetings, it works fine, however, and even includes a physical privacy shutter.

What it doesn't offer is Windows Hello support. That's really a shame because I think a laptop of this kind really could have benefited from it. It does have a fingerprint reader built into the power button, which is as fast as it is reliable. The trend of putting fingerprint readers on the power button needs to go away, though, because I did put the computer to sleep by accident twice before mastering the feather touch required to just get a clean fingerprint read.

In keeping with its DIY, "this is your computer, not ours," design ethos, there is no included software whatsoever. I love that, by and large, but that does mean that there is also no configuration software to provide more advanced options, as is available on many competing laptops. You do have complete access to the BIOS by tapping F2 when the system boots, but if you're looking for anything on the level of a desktop PC or even a gaming laptop, think again.

This is most meaningful when it comes to performance tuning. In essence, all you're left with is the basic Windows power management options. You can toggle between Best Power Efficiency, Balanced, and Best Performance. It’s simple and easy for anyone to manage, but also hints that this PC really isn’t about setting any performance milestones compared to other options tuned for performance out of the factory.

Framework 13 – Performance

With all of that background out of the way, it's time to get into performance. I've been able to live with the Framework 13 for the better part of a month and carry it with me as a regular daily driver. This daily use experience is really the highlight of the laptop. It doesn't particularly stand out as great for gaming, and it's also not out to blow your socks off with the highest benchmark scores or fastest processing times. But for day-to-day tasks and getting work done, it's very good and is exceptionally easy to carry through the day.

Its modularity can also be a highlight depending on what you use your laptop for. Ahead of this review, I made a point to buy a selection of different expansion cards in addition to the four that were sent with my review sample (two USB-C cards, a USB-A, and a full-size HDMI). Most of the time, I don't need a full-size HDMI and found a third USB-C more beneficial when I was testing games. However, swapping out one of those USB-Cs for a USB Type-A worked better for connecting peripherals. If you are a creator that's regularly pulling photos or video off of a memory card, the microSD reader might be a better choice. This is a level of versatility that normal laptops just can't match and allows the Framework 13 to be what you need it to be in the moment.

There's a certain peace of mind that also comes with this laptop that, while intangible, I definitely think has value. With most laptops, a single accident could mean replacing the whole thing or sending it in for an expensive repair. Here, you can be confident in two things: 1) Framework will sell the part you need; and, 2) they will have a tutorial for your specific model, guiding you through the repair process. It may not be cheap, depending on the part, but it’s probably going to cost less than sending it in to a vendor to do the same thing.

When it comes to performance, it’s best to keep your expectations in check, the Framework 13 does well enough that you won’t feel like it lacks for productivity, browsing the web, and other day-to-day tasks. Its Ryzen AI 9 processor is overkill for that kind of application, and in fact, opens the door to a whole lot more. With 12 cores and 24 threads and a built-in NPU, streaming, video and photo editing, and working with AI models are all within the realm of possibility.

Just don’t expect it to be the fastest, and prepare to make concessions if you want to play games. The HX 370 is popular among Windows gaming handhelds right now because it is very capable, but certainly not at the laptop’s native 2,880 x 1,920 resolution. Even at 1200p, it struggles without using low to medium settings and intelligent features like frame generation.

Before getting into performance results, I want to thank you for your patience as we build up our new data set with our new test process. Since this has coincided with the launch of Nvidia’s RTX 50-series laptops, most of our testing thus far has been with laptops featuring these high-powered GPUs. In fact, the only Windows laptop we’ve tested utilizing integrated graphics is the Asus ROG Flow Z13, a more expensive and gaming oriented 2-in-1 that uses the successor to the HX 370 – and includes the most powerful iGPU ever.

So, these aren’t apples to apples comparisons, but I’m including them here for a bit of extra context and to show what another ~$550 can get you. Just remember: the Asus ROG Flow Z13 is targeted at gamers and enthusiasts and is exactly the type of device that would be exceptionally hard to service on your own.

Starting with synthetics, the HX 370 performed right in line with other HX 370 laptops and handhelds in every test. For gaming, the 3DMark tests simulate different aspects of game rendering and the performance of specific gaming features you might encounter in modern games. For basic rendering, Night Raid is a good representation of the kind of performance you might expect with older and simpler-to-run (graphically) games at 1080p. 3DMark dubbed the Framework 13’s Night Raid score “Good,” which I would agree with. The more demanding tests, both graphically and with specific features, are Speed Way and Steel Nomad, and the Framework expectedly chugged through both.

Things fared similarly in our roster of test games and settings. As a reminder, we test all of our games on Ultra settings, using upscaling unless we note otherwise, and use quality mode at 1080p/1200p and balanced mode at 1440p/1920p. Any laptop with integrated graphics will struggle at these settings, but they allow us to compare like for like between systems. In this case, they also show us how the system would perform if you turned all of the dials to 10. For the most part, what would happen is many games would be flat out unplayable.

Realistically, what you would actually do is turn the resolution down to 1200p and then scale your graphics settings to low or medium. In this case, virtually every game above was very playable, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin's Creed Shadows. The system also performed very well with World of Warcraft and Diablo 4, easily hitting above 60 FPS with FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) turned on.

To actually play games on this system, these kinds of sacrifices are necessary. But when games offer FSR upscaling or frame generation, you can definitely reach a bit higher. Baldur's Gate 3, for example, ran around 45 FPS at customized medium settings in Act 3. While I wouldn't want to play a first-person shooter at that frame rate, slower-paced games like BG3 are perfectly playable. Likewise, older games or indies are well within reach too.

Unlike the handhelds that use the same Ryzen AI9 HX 370 to drive their gaming experiences, the Framework 13 doesn't benefit from having such a small screen. Dropping the resolution to 800p results in a very soft and frankly bad-looking picture. I can't recommend it.

On the flip side, however, if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass for cloud gaming, GeForce Now, or another cloud gaming service, it can actually perform quite well and look great. My personal favorite is Nvidia GeForce Now, which can deliver outstandingly low latency and make many games feel like you're playing locally, even while streaming.

The best experience isn't available with its out-of-the-box settings, however. By default, the system only has half a gigabyte of video memory enabled, and you'll need to go into the BIOS to change that (it can go all the way up to 16GB, depending on how much memory you have to start with). This again points to the intention of the laptop being for productivity over gaming.

Likewise, the display really doesn't give the best first impression either, even with the upgraded 2.8K screen. It’s very crisp, but the contrast is poor with the stereotypically raised blacks of IPS, and is capable of a much better picture. By tweaking the brightness and contrast in the AMD Adrenalin software, I was able to really darken up the blacks and improve the overall brightness of the picture. Take the time to make these adjustments. It makes a huge difference in the display’s image quality.

The other quirk is the Framework 13's uncommon 3:2 aspect ratio. While every game I tested supported its native resolution, they didn’t all offer the same range of options for reducing it to improve gaming performance. I ultimately settled on 1200p because, while the picture is stretched slightly, it’s not very noticeable and was available in every game.

Finally, we have battery life. While this will depend on the exact settings you’re using and what you’re doing throughout your work day, it can generally last about one full work day before needing to be plugged in. We test battery life using Procyon’s battery rundown test, which simulates common productivity tasks. At half brightness and with Energy Saver and Best Power Efficiency modes enabled in Windows, it was able to last eight hours and 16 minutes in Procyon’s battery rundown test. It’s not the longest, and could certainly be less if you’re running at full brightness all day, but if you do run dry, its charger is small and lightweight making it easy to carry with the laptop.

The Best 3D Puzzle Alternatives to Expensive LEGO Sets

LEGO can get pricey, especially if you're hoping to pick up some of the bigger sets. If you're trying to build something a little more budget-friendly, it's worth checking out 3D puzzles. These creations are usually made of cardboard pieces rather than plastic bricks, but you can still accomplish a fun build for your collectible collection. You don't have to settle for less interesting builds, either, as there are plenty of models that are similar in design to some of LEGO's bigger sets, including Marvel and Star Wars kits.

We've gathered up a few 3D puzzle options here that serve as great alternatives to their pricier LEGO counterparts. These range from a Hulkbuster model to an incredible build of Barad-dûr from The Lord of the Rings, if that awesome LEGO set caught your eye. If you're in the mood to build something exciting, check out our 3D puzzle alternatives to expensive LEGO sets below.

The Best 3D Puzzle Alternatives to Expensive LEGO Sets

Hulkbuster 3D Puzzle

For Marvel fans, this Iron Man Hulkbuster model is an excellent addition to your shelf. While the LEGO set will cost you over $500 to buy, you can scoop up a 3D puzzle model from 4D Build for around $50 instead.

The 4D Build model comes with 348 pieces, five LED lights to place in it for special effects, and a stand to set it up on. It doesn't even require any glue or tools to put it together, making it an easy project to work on.

Imperial AT-AT 3D Puzzle

LEGO offers two variations on an AT-AT build from Star Wars: one costs over $400 while the other collectible set for adults can set you back over $1,000. And while these are both incredibly cool and detailed sets, there's thankfully a more affordable option to jump on.

Once again, 4D Build offers a great alternative to the AT-AT LEGO sets that comes in at $60. It's made up of 238 pieces, and in the box you'll also find glue to put it all together and a stand to set it up on, so you can proudly display it amongst your Star Wars collectibles once you've finished.

Hogwarts Castle 3D Puzzle

The LEGO Hogwarts set is a truly magical build for Harry Potter fans, even if its price tag doesn't feel quite so enchanting. If you don't want to drop over $400 on the set, 4D Build offers its own Hogwarts Castle build so you can add the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to your collection for a more affordable price.

This 4D Build Hogwarts set features plenty of details you'll recognize from the movies, thanks to its 209 intricate pieces that fit together. This one doesn't require glue or any additional tools, either, making it an easier assembly.

Barad-dûr 3D Puzzle

The LEGO Barad-dûr set from Lord of The Rings is an incredibly cool build. It's one that I've definitely had my eye on. However, it's a big investment. Thankfully, 4D Build is here to save the day once again with a 3D puzzle kit that can put Barad-dûr in your collection without making a massive dent in your wallet.

The 4D Build Barad-dûr set features plenty of details from the films that you can take in while putting its 204 pieces together. It also comes with a stand to set it up on once you're finished. If you're a Lord of the Rings fan, it's a worthy addition to a collection.

Eiffel Tower 3D Puzzle

Outside of iconic sets from movies, if you're just looking for an architectural build to work on, LEGO has plenty of stunning sets to choose from. The Eiffel Tower set, in particular, is an eye-catching addition to a collectible shelf, though it does come with a premium price tag of over $600. If you're looking for an alternative, one of our favorite puzzle brands, Ravensburger, offers a more affordable Eiffel Tower build that's worth a look.

Ravensburger's 'Night Edition' Eiffel Tower 3D puzzle is, as its name suggests, a build of the popular landmark as it would be seen glowing at night. This kit comes with 216 pieces, nine accessory parts, and a light module with LEDs to help capture its shine during the evening hours.

Titanic 3D Puzzle

The Titanic set is another incredible build from LEGO that makes for a striking display piece, but at a very steep price tag. Thankfully, CubicFun has a 3D puzzle option that even comes with LED lights for added effect.

CubicFun's 3D puzzle of the Titanic comes with 266 pieces along with 85 LED bulbs that can be placed under the deck so you can recreate the ship's night time look. It's a dazzling display piece for a history-themed or ship collection, and doesn't even require any glue or tools to put it together, which is a nice bonus.

If you'd prefer to shop for LEGO sets, there are plenty of options to check out right now. Have a look through our breakdown of new LEGO sets that have released in July to see what's just dropped, or you can look through our roundup of the 10 best LEGO sets in 2025 to see some of our overall favorites. And if you're hoping to pick up more puzzles to work on, our breakdown of the best jigsaw puzzles for adults highlights some picks we think are worth your time and money.

How to Redeem Codes in Anime Boss Raid

Before you can redeem codes in Anime Boss Raid, you'll need to do two things:

When both steps are complete, you'll be able to redeem codes in-game, which you can do by following the steps below:

  • After booting the game up, look on the left-hand side of the screen. You'll see a "shop" icon, which is represented by a shopping basket.
  • Click this icon and you'll pull up the shop tab. Scroll to the very bottom of this shop tab, and you'll find a codes bar.
  • Type your code into the codes bar and then click the claim button to redeem the code.

Why Isn't My Anime Boss Raid Code Working?

If your Anime Boss Raid code isn’t working, it’s likely due to one of two scenarios. The first is that the code was input incorrectly. Check the spelling and that the case is correct, then redeem again. You can even copy and paste the codes directly from this article over to Roblox if you want to make sure you’re inputting them correctly.

The other possibility is that the code has expired or you’ve already used it. In this scenario, you should see an error message pop up within the bar informing you that the code has already been redeemed or is invalid.

How to Get More Anime Boss Raid Codes

If you're on the hunt for extra Anime Boss Raid codes, you'll want to become a member of the game's official Discord server. If you keep an eye on the server's announcements channel, you'll see all the latest codes as they drop.

What is Anime Boss Raid in Roblox?

Anime Boss Raid is similar to the array of popular anime-focused tower defense games currently on Roblox, but with one major twist. Instead of summoning units and then positioning them around a battlefield, you'll take your summoned units and pit them in a duel against a single powerful opponent. To defeat them, you'll need to assemble a squad of iconic warriors, with units hailing from Demon Slayer, Dragon Ball Z, Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece and Solo Levelling.

As you begin to take down increasingly powerful foes, you'll sell loot from fallen enemies to purchase new heroes, reroll your units' stats to finesse their build, and assign buffs to ensure they're dealing optimal damage.

The 65" Panasonic Z85 4K OLED Smart TV Drops to the Lowest Price of Any 65" OLED TV This Year

Here's a rare chance to pick up an OLED TV at an absolutely bargain price. Starting today, Buydig has discounted the 65" Panasonic Z85 4K OLED Smart TV with Amazon Fire TV to just $799 with free delivery after you apply coupon code "HEAT". The price is reflected at the final step of checkout (before you actually place your order). This is the least expensive 65" OLED TV I've seen this year. Panasonic is a well-known brand with a solid TV history. Although they had been out of the game for a while, they've recently returned, targeting the higher-end market with Mini-LED and OLED offerings. Buydig is a reputable, established online retailer; I've personally placed several orders without any problems.

65" Panasonic Z85 4K OLED Fire TV for $799

Use code "HEAT" (price reflected at final step of checkout)

The Panasonic Z85 TV uses a W-OLED panel so image quality is comparable to the Samsung S85C/D/F, Sony Bravia 8/A80, and LG B4/B3 models. Since this is a true OLED panel, the Z85 boasts near instantaneous response time, near infinite contrast ratio, and true blacks. It's superior to any other panel type in nearly every scenario except for one: super bright rooms with no light control (OLEDs aren't as bright as Mini LED or LED LCD TVs).

The Z85 is an excellent future-proof gaming TV because it has a native 120Hz refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 ports. That means it is capable of running games in 4K at up to 120fps on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. It's a great TV for the Switch 2 as well, since the console is locked at 60fps when running games in 4K. The Z85 also has other convenient gaming features like variable refresh rate and auto low latency mode.

The $13 FrSara Portable Neck Fan Is an Inexpensive Solution to Beating the Summer Heat

Summer has arrived and neck fans are once again increasing in popularity. These portable fans are a simple, effective, and above all inexpensive way to keep your noggin cool and breezy. Amazon is currently offering 50% off the FrSara Rechargeable Portable Neck Fan with coupon code "CWE2O6ER". For Amazon Prime members, prices start at just $13.00 after the code is applied. To be honest, most of these inexpensive neck fans on Amazon look like they came from the same factory, so it really just comes down to finding the lowest price. Amazon offers an easy 30 day return policy.

FrSara Rechargeable Portable Neck Fan for $13

The FrSara portable neck fan features brushless motors that spin a total of four bladless fans (one in each earcup and two in the headband) at up to 7500rpm and keep your neck area cool. There are raised dimples that keep most of the headband from sitting directly on your neck, thus improving airflow and reducing sweat. The 4,200mAh rechargeable battery lasts about four to seven hours depending on which one of the three speed settings you set it at, and can be easily recharged with a USB Type-C cable. Finally, a small digital LCD displays your fan's current setting and battery level.

A portable neck fan has plenty of practical uses, especially if you're going somewhere hot and humid (like Disney World Orlando in the summer). For gamers, it makes a lot of sense because your room can get pretty toasty on a hot day, especially with your gaming console or PC working overtime and exhausting tons of hot air. Additionally, if you're like me and you get sweaty whenever you wear a gaming headset, a neck fan could be the perfect solution for that too. Keep in mind that neck fans work by facilitating evaporative cooling, which means you'll need to already be sweating for the fan to do its magic. That's not a limitation of these neck fans but really for any cooling device in general that involves moving air. Otherwise, it will just be warm summer air blowing over dry skin, which isn't as effective.

How to Get (or Switch Over to) the Disney+/Hulu/HBO Max Streaming Bundle

Now that the streaming bundle that puts Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max all on one tab has been available for more than a year, we're pretty confident in calling it the best streaming bundle that you can get. At $16.99 a month for a subscription with ads (and $29.99 to go ad-free), this bundled trio saves up to 43% off the price of individually subscribing to each platform. Not bad for three of the best streaming services around.

Below is a step-by-step process for how to sign up or switch over from existing subscriptions. Note that you'll only be able to register or update your plan from a web browser, not in-app, and only directly through Disney+, HBO Max (fka Max), or Hulu, not a third-party like Roku or Apple or TV/internet provider.

How to Get the Disney+/Hulu/HBO Max Bundle

For newbies:

Easy: Head over to the sign-up page on Disney+, HBO Max, or Hulu. From there, you can pick whichever plan best suits you, enter your email to create a login that will be connected to all three streaming services, put in your payment info, and start streaming right away. Unfortunately, there is no free trial period for new subscribers.

For existing subscribers:

If you currently only subscribe to one of the services included in the bundle, head over to the page where you manage your subscription and update your plan accordingly. That'll essentially become your primary streaming service through which you're billed. Once you do that, you'll be able to link up the other two streaming services via the primary account.

Current subscribers to Disney+'s Duo plan (which includes Hulu) or Hulu with an HBO Max add-on can follow the same steps:

  • Go to your Disney+ or Hulu Account page.
  • Click 'manage plan' on Hulu or 'subscriptions' on Disney+, and select the option for Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max Bundle, With or Without Ads. If you were already subscribed to the Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ bundle and switch over, you'll have to add on ESPN+ just like any other extra channel like Showtime or Starz. (Max's Ultimate Ad-Free plan and Hulu + Live TV, however, are not available as add-ons.)
  • You'll be billed the new price on your next statement.

What if I have three separate accounts for Disney+, HBO Max, and Hulu?

The steps are more annoying, but for the amount of money you're potentially saving (see below), it's well worth the effort. You could also just connect to the customer service chat on any of the streaming services' websites and have an agent help you out.

For monthly subscribers:

  • First, pick whichever streaming service you want to be charged from.
  • Next, you'll have to "manage" the subscriptions for the other two – meaning, you'll have to cancel them so you're not subscribed to them twice.
  • Go back to the page where you manage subscriptions on your primary streaming service and select the option for Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max Bundle, With or Without Ads.
  • The plan takes effect immediately and the price will update on your next billing statement.

If you're changing over annual subscriptions on any of the streaming services, the steps will be identical. The only difference is that you'll be refunded the prorated amount from when your yearly billing cycle starts.

For even more troubleshooting, visit the bundle FAQs on the Max (most useful), Disney+ (medium useful), or Hulu (least useful) sites.

How Much Money Do I Save by Bundling Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max?

Let's play with round numbers here, since streaming services like to charge some dollar amount and 99 cents. Accounting for the year, the bundle costs $204 with ads and $360 for no ads in total. Which sounds scary until you break it down:

A basic HBO Max plan with ads costs $10 a month, or $100 with an annual subscription; the standard ad-free plan is $17 monthly, or $170 a year; and its premium plan, which gets you access to 4K streaming, jumps to $21 and $210. Across the board, choosing any HBO Max annual plan saves 16%. Just at a glance, the monthly ad-free Max subscription costs the same as the bundled trio with ads.

The existing Disney+ and Hulu Duo bundle with ads clocks in at $11 a month and increases to $20 for premium with no ads. For Disney+ alone you're paying $10 a month with ads (but there's no option for an annual plan) and $16 a month, or $160 a year, for the premium plan. Solo Hulu subscribers pay $10 a month, or $100 a year, for a plan with ads and $19 a month to go ad-free with no annual option.

Here's the quick math: If you opt for individual plans on each streaming service with ads, you'd be paying $31 monthly. Going for the $17 bundle nets a savings of $167 per year. Or if you bundle Disney+ and Hulu and pay for Max separately, your bill would be $21 a month. It's $4 cheaper per month to sign up for the bundle, which isn't nothing!

For those who want that ad-free experience, you'd be paying $37 to $41 monthly (depending on the Max subscription tier) for the Disney+ and Hulu bundle and a separate Max sub, or $52 to $56 per month for all three individually – which, yikes! Switching over to the bundle saves up to $312 a year (!!). Granted, the biggest savings means giving up 4K streaming on Max – the bundled trio currently does not include that option. For the non-4K ad-free tier, that's still up to $264 in savings.

Is There an Annual Subscription Plan for the Disney+/Hulu/Max Bundle?

Unfortunately for people used to saving another couple dollars by opting for an annual subscription, the bundles are only available as monthly subscriptions at present. They'll only let us have so many discounts, y'know?

IDW Boldly Goes Into a New Star Trek Era | Comic-Con 2025

IDW Publishing recently wrapped up a monumental era of the Star Trek publishing line with the Lore War crossover, which capped off Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing’s multi-year run on the flagship Star Trek series. But that’s hardly the end of IDW’s Star Trek line. The company is in the midst of launching no fewer than four new Star Trek books, each set in a different era of the franchise timeline and focusing on a different cast of characters.

Among these new titles is Kelly and Lanzing’s Star Trek: The Last Starship, a book that resurrects Captain James T. Kirk in the bleak 31st Century era known as The Burn. There’s also Star Trek: Red Shirts, a TOS-era book about those unluckiest of Starfleet members. The lineup is rounded out by two series spinning directly out of the events of the Star Trek shows, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - The Seeds of Salvation and Star Trek: Voyager - Homecoming.

To get a better idea of what’s coming for this ambitious Star Trek relaunch, IGN spoke with group editor Heather Antos and the writers of all four titles - Kelly, Lanzing, Red Shirts’ Christopher Cantwell, The Seeds of Salvation’s Robbie Thompson, and Homecoming’s Susan and Tilly Bridges. Read on to learn more about these new stories and why there’s going to be a Trek comic for fans of all types this summer.

Making Star Trek’s 60 Years of Continuity Accessible

The Star Trek franchise is about to celebrate its 60th birthday soon. At this point, the Trek timeline is one of the most sprawling in all of popular culture, comprising numerous shows, over a dozen films, and countless comics, novels, and video games. It’s enough to wonder how a newcomer is supposed to dive into the massive universe nowadays. But the writers make it clear that each book is designed with accessibility firmly in mind, whether it’s telling a standalone story with a new cast (like The Last Starship and Red Shirts) or building directly on one of the Trek shows (like The Seeds of Salvation and Homecoming).

“One of the neat things [about The Last Starship] is we are separating ourselves by time so much from the Star Trek that people know,” Kelly tells IGN. “We're able to approach these things from a fresh perspective and assume that you don't have all these years of context, because frankly, our characters don't necessarily have all these years of context. So we are very specifically trying to lens in on bringing in, if you are a fan of science fiction in general, if you love Battlestar Galactica, come play with us, right, because that's the broader scope that we're really hoping to welcome to Star Trek so then they can all fall in love with combadges and meeps.”

“We're able to approach these things from a fresh perspective and assume that you don't have all these years of context, because frankly, our characters don't necessarily have all these years of context."

“I would say that the level of entry for something like Star Trek: Red Shirts, it's niche but also low, because I think you can understand the concept very quickly, which is all of these characters are expendable and you're going to watch a lot of people get hurt and be killed over the next five issues,” Cantwell says. “But at the same time, it's something that we want to make sure it conforms and fits in for the most ardent fans.”

Even with Voyager: Homecoming, a book whose entire selling-point is that it explores what happens immediately after the finale of the TV series, the goal is accessibility. Tilly Bridges explains that the first issue is designed to catch new readers up to speed with the cast and their yearslong odyssey.

“[It’s] giving Voyager fans maybe what they'd been hoping for from the finale, because I really like that finale, but you never actually get to see them get home, and that hurts,” Tilly Bridges says. “So we want to give them that and we want to give the crew one last adventure together, but you also want it to be accessible to people that have never seen Voyager. Maybe say, ‘This is why these characters are so amazing. Go check out that show.’ So I think, hopefully, we hit the balance of recapping everything that you need to go through with it. And then if you're brand new to Star Trek or Voyager, you're just going to get a really exciting sci-fi adventure story and hopefully it'll get you into Trek because Trek's amazing.”

Antos sums up the mission statement of the revamped Star Trek line this way - it’s all about going boldly forward and telling stories Trek fans have never seen before.

“It's really about branching out and taking the Star Trek mission statement of exploring strange new worlds and doing things in the comics that we've never seen done before,” Antos says. “That has been the mission with every single one of these books. I don't want to make the same Star Trek comics that we've gotten the previous 60 years. I want to be going bold. I want to be doing new things, and each and every single one of these captains of their own stories here have taken that mission full steam ahead.”

Lanzing adds, “Star Trek comics have been so many things over the years, but they've never been a little bit of DS9, a little bit of TNG, a little bit of TOS, some of The Motion Picture. My favorite stuff from Voyager, my favorite stuff from Discovery. Lower Decks is there too. We've never had this before. This is a brand new frontier, no pun intended, really, of Star Trek comics because for the first time it's treated like a shared, living comic book universe rather than an adaptation of an IP. And so as we talk about bringing in comic book fans, I think Heather's biggest innovation, and one that we very much enjoyed the freedom of, is treating this like it's all one IP, like it's all one universe, like it's all one story, not a bunch of scattershot individual series that were presented over a long period of time.”

Star Trek: Red Shirts

Of the four books, Red Shirts might have the simplest and most engaging elevator pitch. As the title suggests, it’s all about the hapless Starfleet security officers who are always the first to fall on away missions. The book brings together a wide cast of newly created characters who share one thing in common - each and every one of them has the potential to die before the series ends. As the recently released first issue shows, Red Shirts is wasting no time in racking up a body count.

“Whether or not you know anything about James T. Kirk or Captain Picard or that Janeway prefers her coffee hot and black, you've heard of Red Shirts,” Antos says. “Red Shirts are the memeification of Star Trek in the broader spectrum and you know that to be a Red Shirt means you die in a probably terrible fashion, and I thought that was such a great entry level that we could do a really cool action or kind of greedy, darker Star Trek story that we've not quite seen Star Trek approach quite yet.”

Having a cast of new characters certainly helps in terms of accessibility, but it also creates its own storytelling challenges. How do you introduce the large ensemble cast quickly and efficiently and ensure readers will connect with them, even as they start dropping like flies?

“That was where I think working with Heather and then also Cassandra [Jones], one of our other editors on the books, we came up with the idea of introducing that crew manifest. And the crew manifest, it's not overly written, but it helps you with a snapshot of each person and it's borrowing a little bit from even back in, I think, the ‘90s when X-Men rosters started to get huge and the teams are breaking into blue and gold and this and that, and you're like, ‘Wait a minute, who's what?’ And then Hickman took that further where it's like, ‘Okay, hold on. Stop the story and we're going to tell you.’ And it helps a little bit, right? Because it's monthly, it's not daily, it's not weekly like a television show so that crew manifest really helps.”

Cantwell continues, “And then just giving them kind of little crystallized moments in that first issue so that you can hit little notes. And I know that Chip Miller has a peanut allergy, but I don't think we discussed that in the story ever, but you know he has a peanut allergy, so it's there. The peanut allergy becomes subtext, is what I'm saying, and that is the wonder of the storytelling that we get to do.”

Cantwell expects that readers will grow more and more attached to these new characters as the book unfolds, making it all the more difficult when the final issues arrive and only a handful of security officers are left standing.

“You start with the concept and you go, ‘That's hilarious,’" Cantwell says. “And I think that there's some deaths in it, especially in the first issue, and some that are unexpected or shocking, and still they're very much in the vein of someone being turned into a mineral cube and crushed, which is how our red shirts died in the original series. It's like we're doing that, but I think that they hit harder and harder and harder as the issues go on, especially when you get to the last people standing and you've been with them and you're rooting for them to make it that.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - The Seeds of Salvation

Strange New Worlds: The Seeds of Salvation is exactly what it sounds like - a spinoff of the Paramount+ series. Set between the third and fourth seasons of the show, The Seeds of Salvation focuses on a handful of characters like First Officer Una Chin-Riley, Security Officer La'An Noonien-Singh, Science Officer Spock, and Nurse Christine Chapel as they’re called to a remote, icy world and encounter the horrors lurking within.

What makes this series especially interesting is that Thompson is also a writer for Strange New Worlds Season 4. We were curious how different the experience is writing these characters for TV as opposed to comics. As he reveals, it’s mostly a question of scale.

“The only difference really is sometimes the scale, but that works both ways because there's certain things that, at least in my opinion, you can only really do in a comic,” Thompson says. “A comic operates just in a different way. It's those moments between those moments. Like in Chris's book, it's very much reminiscent to me of what Ostrander did in the Suicide Squad. It was great seeing characters getting killed off, but it was those scenes in the break room that really make you give a s*** about these characters? And I think that's one of the really fun things about working with this group of people is everybody wants to handcraft these tales.”

In this case, the advantage of the comic book medium is that it allows Thompson and artist Travis Mercer to craft a Trek tale that would be very difficult and costly to produce in live-action.

“This was something that I certainly would love to do in the live action version, but it is prohibitively expensive and there are certain realities in production that just boil down to just the laws of space and time that I can't bend,” Thompson says. And so to be able to have Pelia's character show up for a panel is something that I simply can't do on the live action version of it. To be able to have the full cast available at all times, to be able to work on the scale of something that's, as Heather pointed out, Lovecraftian is pretty challenging to do. I mean, I think we do feature quality work on the show, but we're limited by space and time and all those things. And that's one of the things I think that's really unique about comics is that it really can break down that space and time in ways that are both practical and for the story as well.”

Antos adds, “You pitched me, I think, three or four different ideas off the top. And yeah, this was the pitch where I'm like, ‘This is it. There's no sending any other pitch.’ Personally, selfishly, because I'm all for deep sea horror and I've been begging for anyone to pitch me a deep sea horror book for years pre-Star Trek. But also, to me, the ocean is just as equally vast and scary as space is, and it's right here on our planet and this crew is off on a brand new planet but just think of the horrors that are underneath us or in the ocean and make them Lovecraftian space monster size and it makes for pretty tense circumstances for our crew.”

Star Trek: Voyager - Homecoming

Star Trek: Voyager’s final episode has always been a bit controversial among fans. While the series ends on a happy note, ultimately bringing Captain Janeway and her crew back to the Alpha Quadrant, we never get to see what happens next. The series wraps with that final shot of Voyager orbiting Earth.

But at long last, fans are getting the added closure they’ve been craving. Voyager: Homecoming picks up exactly where the show left off, seizing the opportunity to explore the many happy reunions while also introducing one final challenge for Janeway and the gang to overcome. As readers will see when the first issue arrives, the series builds directly on some loose ends from the show.

“There were so many different threads you could pull on and be like, ‘Well, you know, Voyager did get home, but also left all of these dangling plug threads out there.’” says Susan Bridges. “So that was definitely something we wanted to hit on in the pitch and be like, who from their past might be fun to play with?”

Tilly Bridges adds, “That was something that we worked on with Heather and Paramount - figuring out who is the right foil for this story. What worked within the comics and within the broader Star Trek universe and what didn't and what was the best choice. But I think what we ended on was a very Voyager choice, so it's going to feel very much like this is part of Voyager to the readers, I think.

Janeway has taken on a second life post-Voyager, with actress Kate Mulgrew reprising the role in projects like the movie Star Trek: Nemesis and the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. But the other Voyager crew members haven’t necessarily been so lucky. We asked the writers which characters they were most eager to reconnect with in this sequel.

“Personally, I am such a big Tuvok fan, so I was so excited to see Tuvok come home,” says Susan Bridges. “I feel like Tuvok is such an interesting Vulcan and especially with his history with Janeway that's been dropped several times throughout the series and also his family. He has children and I just feel like he's just a really interesting Vulcan. So I mean, I do love Vulcans, all of them, but I was very excited to give some fun family stuff for Tuvok.”

“I think one of the more interesting characters for me to think about in terms of the reunion and coming home is the Doctor, because he doesn't have anyone to come back to, but he's become a fully sentient, self-realized person on the journey,” says Tilly Bridges. “And so what does that look like for him? All of these people are reuniting, but they're his family and now he's maybe going to lose them. He doesn't know where they're going to go or what's going to happen so it's a very different experience for him than it is for the rest of the crew, I think.”

Antos adds, “And for me, I mean it's obviously the burning question of does Harry Kim finally get his promotion when he gets back home planetside? What did we joke on a Paramount meeting this week? Harry's promotion actually did come up and will they, won't they? And I decided that Mirror Universe Harry Kim is actually the Federation president. The ultimate promotion.”

Star Trek: The Last Starship

The Last Starship might just be the most exciting of these new Trek books, both because it’s Lanzing and Kelly’s follow-up to their previous acclaimed run and because it explores a giant blank canvas in the Star Trek universe. While the live-action series Star Trek Discovery introduced the concept of the Burn, a galaxy-wide disaster where a mass dilithium explosion kills trillions of beings and cripples the Federation, it didn’t show us the immediate aftermath of that disaster. That’s where The Last Starship comes in. The book focuses on a new character named Captain Sato as he leads a crew of the last remaining starship in the Federation fleet. Together, they’ll fight to keep hope alive in the darkest of times.

“The roots of The Last Starship go almost back to the beginning of our time on Flagship, which is what we sort of internally call [our Star Trek run] because it's very hard to call it Star Trek when you're talking to so many great Star Trek writers,” Lanzing says. “Flagship was just getting kicked off. And between Heather and Risa, who's one of our licensing partners and a lot of people who we're all talking about Star Trek, we're talking about what could this be? How could we push it? Where could it go? What could it be? What does a book look like for Star Trek that feels fundamentally unlike Star Trek, which was so the opposite question of what we were asking on Flagship, which was how do you do a book that feels as much like Star Trek as you possibly can?”

If all great science fiction is about using the trappings of the future to provide commentary on the present, then The Last Starship is very much in that vein. It’s probably the perfect Trek story for 2025.

“This is us writing our fears,” Lanzing says. “This is about what it's like to live in a society that is falling apart, where injustice seems to be winning over justice every day, and when everyone in that society is being challenged to live up to the ideals that they thought were inherent, that they thought were endemic. That story I can give to anybody. You don't need to be a Star Trek fan. You just need to look outside your window and be looking for a story that talks about what's going on all over the world right now.”

So much of The Last Starship is built around new elements - a new starship, a new crew, an era we’ve only begun to comprehend. But it does have one critical anchor tying it back to the classic Trek era - Captain James T. Kirk.

“Once we figured that out, we're going to give you a book that feels fundamentally new starship - new cast, new time period, new technology, new problem, certainly a new setting in many respects,” Lanzing says. “And then we're going to take one of the most, if not the most iconic single characters in Star Trek - one of, I would say, a handful, maybe five, that you could put up on a screen anywhere in the world and they might get known. What does it look like to make Captain James T. Kirk suffer through the Burn? What is that journey for that man? And that was such an incredible question for us, such a great way to re-approach this character that we started on with Star Trek back in Year Five and such a great way for us to use everything we've learned on Star Trek all these years as fans, but also as the writers to tell as relevant and approachable story as possible.”

That being said, fans shouldn’t necessarily assume they know how Kirk’s story will play out in this book. For once, he’s not the man in the captain’s chair calling the shots. He’s a piece of a much larger puzzle.

“Along the lines of what Chris is doing over in Red Shirts is, to make it clear, we have an entire cast of new characters that we have also really fallen in love with, but yes, we are unfortunately going to brutalize because that is the nature of dynamic, delicious storytelling,” Kelly says. “Kirk is a part of that stew, but this is not the James T. Kirk that we know and love. I'm just saying this is a different flavor, right? This is not a man in command of his own ship. This is a man who is here now, and I can already feel the Trek sniper target on my head. So let's just say whatever you think it is, whatever you fear it may be, it is neither of those things. As a Star Trek fan, first and foremost, what I can tell you is it's very cool.”

Lanzing adds, “We are very cautious about this move. This move was one of those things that in a lot of ways felt like it could betray the book because the whole point of the book is to make something approachable and new and here we are putting this giant piece of continuity in the center of it. Ultimately, I think what's been really beautiful about it in execution, what I can tell you now having written many issues of the book, is that he fits right in. Not because he fits into the time period or fits into the cast, but because the story needs a person like him, it needs a person who can feel the centuries of heartbreak on this thing and not simply the heartbreak that's happening here. So how he comes about, who exactly he is, how that all functions, that is very much a question for the book and I can't wait for people to see that.”

Star Trek: Red Shirts #1 is available in comic shops now. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - The Seeds of Salvation #1 and Star Trek: Voyager - Homecoming #1 will follow in August 2025, with Star Trek: The Last Starship #1 hitting in September 2025.
