Lies of P: Overture Trailer Leaks Online, Teases Imminent Shadow-Drop

If what looks like a leaked trailer is anything to go by, Lies of P's upcoming DLC, Overture, could shadow-drop very soon.

The trailer — which is already making the rounds on social media — concludes with the statement: "Available now."

This trailer has leaked just hours ahead of the Summer Game Fest showcase and two days before Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase, so perhaps we'll get an official announcement and release at one of the presentations. Summer Game Fest kicks off at 2pm PT / 5pm ET today, June 6, while Xbox Games Showcase starts at 10am PT / 1pm ET on June 8.

💫Lies Of P's Overture DLC release trailer leaked

This DLC will be released during the Summer Game Fest.#LiesofP pic.twitter.com/JegpSZDKAX

— EliteGamingNews (@Elite_Gaming_X) June 6, 2025

Lies of P is a unique, darker twist on the classic story of Pinocchio, offering a challenging action game with a unique "lie" system where what you do and say dynamically affects gameplay. The upcoming new DLC — which features new locations, new enemies and bosses, new characters, and new weapons — also introduces Death March, a new mode that enables you to face off against the game's myriad of bosses all over again. In all, the DLC will take experienced players roughly 15-20 hours to complete, and will unlock once they’ve passed a “certain” chapter of the game. Neowiz has also already announced a full-blown sequel to Lies of P.

Interestingly, Overture will introduce difficulty options for the very first time. As a "Soulslike" game, Lies of P can be punishingly difficult, especially for inexperienced players perhaps attracted by Lies of P's dark story and setting. Director Jiwon Choi had said the team didn't think Soulslike games should have difficulty options and it shipped without any.

Neowiz changed its mind, however, following feedback from players, saying: “We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game. We have a lot of feedback from customers, and from our developers. So by making development adjustments and introducing these difficulty options, we can offer the experience to different types of players. This broadens the base.”

We had a good time with Lies of P, awarding it 8/10. We said: "Lies of P might not branch out particularly far from its soulslike inspiration, but it plays the part extremely well."

Where to Stream Every John Wick Movie Online in 2025

With stylish cinematography and expertly choreographed fight scenes, John Wick has cemented itself as one of the best action film franchises of the last decade. The ongoing series realized its potential with John Wick: Chapter 4, which IGN called "a modern action masterclass" and awarded a rare 10/10 review score.

With Ballerina now in theaters and confirmation that Keanu Reeves will be returning for John Wick 5, we've compiled a complete list of where you can stream every John Wick movie online in 2025.

Where to Stream the John Wick Movies Online

The John Wick movies have truly moved all over the place. While the first three movies were added to Hulu on January 1, 2025, they've since been removed from the service (talk about short-lived). For a while, the first three John Wick movies could only be streamed with a live TV subscription like Fubo. Thankfully, NBC's Peacock picked up the movies again in early May.

Here's our full breakdown of how to watch John Wick online in 2025 with links to where you can stream each movie:

John Wick Movies on Blu-ray

If you're more interested in adding to your physical collection (or maybe just less interested in another streaming subscription), every John Wick movie is also available on DVD, in 4K Ultra HD. For what it's worth, no one can take your Blu-ray collection away from you.

Future John Wick Movies

After the mostly unimpressive debut of The Continental, Chad Stahleski was able to strike a deal to have creative oversight of all future John Wick spinoffs (as well as the new Highlander re-boot), so we have some faith that the canon is in good hands from here on out.

To star off we have Ballerina, a feature-film spinoff starring Ana de Armas's character Ruska Roma, which just released in theaters.

John Wick 5 is officially a go at Lionsgate after Reeves and Director Stahleski decided over whiskey in Japan, and we know for sure Keanu Reeves will be a part of it. Reeves is also returning for an anime John Wick prequel.

Lastly, there's the yet-to-be-confirmed Sofia Al-Azwar spinoff hinted at by actor Halle Berry. In the meantime, you can also check out our list of movies like John Wick.

Squid Game Creator Loses 2 More Teeth to Stress Making Season 3

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has been through a lot to bring audiences one of the best dystopian television dramas ever — and that includes losing teeth. Yep, you read that right. Hwang recently revealed that he has lost even more of his pearly whites since making Season 3.

“I thought it was going to be okay, but this time I had to pull out two more teeth as well,” the creator recently told Entertainment Weekly. “I had to pull out about eight teeth in Season 1, and now I have two more out, and I haven’t put them back in yet. So I’m waiting for them.”

Originally, reports had claimed that Hwang lost six teeth early on in the series, but in November 2024 he revealed it was actually closer to eight or nine teeth. That said, the last season of the series — which Hwang has confirmed as the final season — proved to be a little less stressful. However, it still resulted in more loss for the creator.

“I do already have the universe and the space that I have envisioned come to life, so in a sense, Season 2 and Season 3 was easier compared to Season 1,” he told EW. “But the problem is that for Season 2 and Season 3, we had to shoot and write in one go. It was as if we were making one season, and we tried as best as we could to bring in Season 3 as fast as possible. So the total amount was much larger, and we had to shoot for around one year, so it was very physically demanding.”

Earlier this week, Hwang opened up about what he would do if he could make a Squid Game spin-off show. “If I make [a] spin off, it will be a story happening between Season 1 and 2,” Hwang revealed to Indiewire on the Gotham Awards red carpet recently. “There [was] a three years gap between Season 1 and 2. So, I want to show what they did for those times.”

Season 3 of Squid Game premieres on Netflix on June 27, 2025.

Dune: Awakening Addresses Server Stability With First 'Head Start' Patch

Dune: Awakening was down for a couple of hours earlier today as Funcom applied a hotfix to help improve server stability and address a number of issues that have popped up since the game went live for "head start" players yesterday, June 5.

Top of the list was "improved server stability" — although there was no specifics — and a pop-up has been added so that when you click on the "Private" tab in the server browser, you'll be informed that these servers are managed externally. (For more about what you do and don't get when you rent a private server, we've got you covered).

As for the other fixes? Here you go…

Dune: Awakening June 6 Hotfix 11.0.5 Patch Notes

  • Fixed an issue where certain player base placeables’ menu would fail to load if the player switched between placeables’ tabs in quick succession, using the Q and E keys.
  • Fixed an issue where players could sometimes get a suggested server that was not the closest in the region.
  • Fixed an issue causing players to be stuck in the Imperial Testing Station #002 boss room by removing the pentashield doors.
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs in the Arrakeen social hub could sometimes get stuck in place.

Funcom warned that while some of the changes will take effect the moment they are deployed, others may require a downtime, so keep an eye out for in-game service messages.

We haven't yet had chance to review Dune: Awakening, but we did take an extended peek when the beta was live. "As a longtime fan of Dune, it also just feels so good to explore and learn more about a world that I’m quite fond of, and Funcom has clearly put a ton of effort into worldbuilding and lore, even despite taking quite a bit of creative liberty by placing Awakening within a parallel reality and canon than the books/movies," we wrote in IGN's Dune: Awakening closed beta impressions preview.

"There are little details that have a massive impact on gameplay. I won’t go into spoilers, but this kind of attention to detail touches just about every aspect of the world, including the factions and characters you meet along the way, which should be a treat for any fan of the setting."

And if you're wondering what players are making of Dune: Awakening so far, the survival multiplayer game isn't properly out yet, but it has already set a concurrent player peak on Steam of almost 100,000 players. For more, check out details on the MMO's business model and post-launch plans, and we've also got the global release time schedule for Dune: Awakening right here for you, too.

T-Pain Is Getting His Own Fortnite Character and a Custom World That Is 'Redefining Zone Wars Gameplay'

T-Pain is making his grand debut in Fortnite today, June 6, and IGN can exclusively reveal the first look at his in-game character and details on his custom world that is "redefining Zone Wars gameplay" and giving players the ability to shrink down and battle across T-Pain's gaming setup, use food-powered abilities, and more.

T-Pain is making his arrival in Fortnite debut alongside Jack in the Box's Jack Box, and you can check out that first look of the pair in the slideshow below.

Among other exciting surprises, players will be able to look forward to the following in 'Jack Zone Wars';

  • Micro Arena Combat: Players shrink down and battle across T-Pain's oversized gaming setup, using monitors, energy drinks, and controllers as cover
  • Food-Powered Abilities: Munchie Meal items become power-ups—tacos restore health, Stuffed Cookies grant super speed, Curly Fries enable high jumps, and Burg-R-Tater Melts deliver double pump damage
  • App Integration Advantage: Order through Jack's app to unlock T-Pain's exclusive loadout with enhanced damage and mythic weapon access
  • Dynamic Game Masters: T-Pain controls storm mechanics while Jack drops limited-time power-ups, creating unpredictable match flow
  • Celebrity Showdown: Live stream battle featuring T-Pain and Jack Box on June 26th where fans can compete against the two legends in a live battle royale.

“Jack in the Box was a great collab because it felt real," T-Pain said of this partnership. "At this point in my career, I’m only teaming up with brands that are genuinely authentic to me. I’ve gotta actually use the product—or in this case, eat it! Ha! Plus, they’re just a fun company that doesn’t take things too seriously—kinda like me. The shoot was really cool because they blended their creativity with my real-life vibe in a way that just made sense.”

T-Pain also loves that his setup has been recreated in-game with a twist, saying, "I got Jack in the Box food all over my studio desk - it's crazy!"

This collaboration marks T-Pain's "biggest gaming venture" and Jack in the Box's "first celebrity Fortnite integration." It also builds upon Jack in the Box's 'Jack's CEO Minigames, which launched back in April 2025 and lets you chase the ultimate prize of becoming CEO of Jack in the Box.

Princess Peach and Toad's Veteran Voice Actor Says Nintendo Told Her She'd Been Replaced on Switch 2 Launch Day As Mario Kart World Released Without Her in It

Voice actor Samantha Kelly discovered her 18-year tenure as Super Mario characters Princess Peach and Toad was over on Nintendo Switch 2 launch day — when Mario Kart World released without her in it.

Kelly might not be a household name, but she has featured as Peach and Toad in more than 70 games for Nintendo DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U and Switch since Mario Strikers Charged released in 2007.

From Super Mario Bros. to Luigi's Mansion, Mario Kart to Super Smash Bros, Kelly has provided the voice for two of the Mushroom Kingdom's biggest roles — including when her characters took centre stage, such as in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, or last year's Princess Peach: Showtime!

Kelly's vocal talents have extended beyond Nintendo's own titles, to appearances by Peach and Toad in games made for Nintendo systems by other companies, such as Ubisoft's Mario + Rabbids series and Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympics series.

And even beyond the world of video games, Taylor has voiced the characters for the interactive Lego Super Mario toys, within Nintendo's Super Nintendo World theme parks, and (as other Toad characters) in Nintendo's billion dollar grossing Super Mario Bros. Movie.

But you won't find Kelly in Mario Kart World's credits. And after fans spotted her name was not present, the actor has now confirmed her time as Peach and Toad is over.

"Thank you for so many years of friendship and joy," Taylor wrote in a message to fans on Instagram. "I'm sad that it's over, I truly would have wanted to voice Peach and Toad forever. Nintendo let me know yesterday that they decided to recast these roles.

"I'm grateful that I got to do these voices for so many years. Peach and Toad are such strong and beautiful characters that I pray they live forever no matter who voices them. So much love <3 #princesspeach #toad"

Nintendo has become increasingly strict when it comes to sharing information found in the credits of its video games ahead of time — to the extent that it frequently refuses to acknowledge the developer of its games prior to their release. (This is the situation currently with the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza, demos of which have already been publicly played at Switch 2 hands-on events.)

Kelly's situation here feels like a bizarre extension of this, where the information that she was not in the credits — because she had been replaced — was held back even from her until Mario Kart World was launched.

Currently, it's unclear who does voice Peach and Toad in Mario Kart World, and presumably in other Mario games going forward.

Eagle-eyed Nintendo fans have spotted another veteran voice actor also missing from the Mario Kart World credits: Takashi Nagasako, who has voiced Donkey Kong for 21 years, since 2004's Mario Power Tennis. In this case, fans have noted that Koji Takeda, who voiced DK in the Japanese version of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, is listed — suggesting that in this case, Nintendo has aligned the video game character's grunts with the Japanese voice of his big-screen counterpart.

IGN has contacted Nintendo for comment.

Of course, this isn't the first time recently that Nintendo has replaced one of its veteran voice actors. Charles Martinet, the colourful actor who voiced Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi, was retired after almost 30 years in 2022. At the time, Nintendo said Martinet would continue to work with Nintendo as "Mario Ambassador," though Martinet himself later suggested he wasn't really sure what that meant.

Nintendo Switch 2: Top Third-Party Accessories Just Got Heavy Discounts at Amazon in the UK

If you've recently picked up a Nintendo Switch 2, or you’re planning to snag one soon, there’s no better time to kit it out thanks to new discounts on JSAUX accessories at Amazon UK.

A brand known for its solid and affordable accessories JSAUX is offering some brilliant deals on its full range of Switch 2 gear over at the retailer. Whether you’re after tougher protection, better travel options, or more control in-game, these bargain-price accessories are worth a look.

First up, two screen protector options are now on sale. The JSAUX 2-Pack Anti-Glare Screen Protector is down to £8.49 (was £10.99), offering matte-finished, smudge-resistant coverage with 9H hardness. That makes it perfect for outdoor play or reducing reflections in bright rooms.

If you prefer crystal-clear visuals, the JSAUX 3-Pack HD Glass Protector has dropped to £6.99 (down from £9.99). It’s just 0.3mm thick, ultra-responsive, and designed to go on bubble-free, thanks to a handy guide frame.

If you need something tougher than a screen film, the JSAUX Dockable Grip Case is now £15.63 after a 15% price drop. This one blends a rigid polycarbonate shell with grippy TPU sides, all while remaining dock-friendly and kickstand-compatible. It's a solid pick for handheld players who still want to slot their console in without hassle.

For serious travellers playing Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the go, the JSAUX Protective Case is down to £19.99 from £25.99. Built with PC+ABS materials, this case includes cushioning strips and joystick protection to keep your Switch 2 safe in transit.

However, if you just want a no-fuss, compact way to store the console and a few games, the Clear Protective Case has also seen a price cut — now just £9.99 (from £11.99).

There are also two excellent carry cases on offer. The larger travel case (now £18.99, was £21.99) has space for 20 game cartridges, cables, Joy-Con straps, and more. Plus it comes in the form of a hard EVA shell with shoulder strap for travel.

In the event you’re after something more compact, the smaller JSAUX carry case is also discounted to £16.99 (was £19.99). With room for accessories and 15 game cards, it even includes an adjustable stand for tabletop play Mario Kart World without needing to fully take it out of the case.

The JSAUX 65W GaN USB-C charger, compatible with Switch 2 and other systems like Steam Deck, MacBook and more, is currently £20.99 (was £25.99). It comes with plug adapters for UK, EU, and US outlets — ideal for jet-setting players who travel on the regular.

And for that final edge in control, both thumb grip sets — the black and orange & blue SKUs, each including three sizes for different play styles — are 15% off, down to £8.49 and £10.99, respectively.

With some of these from JSAUX’s range being labelled as “limited time” deals, we don’t expect all of these discounts to stay active for long. With that, grab these deals while you can to complete your Switch 2 set-up with minimal impact on your bank balance.

The Wheel of Time Showrunner Insists Canceled Amazon Prime Video Show Was Watched by 'Huge Numbers of People,’ Points to The Expanse in Expressing Hope It Will Be Saved

While The Wheel of Time seems dead after Amazon canceled the show following the conclusion of Season 3, its showrunner has pointed to The Expanse in expressing hope it could be saved.

The Wheel of Time is an adaptation of the much-loved fantasy book series by Robert Jordan, with a cast led by Rosamund Pike. After a shaky first two seasons that had fans of the books in uproar over controversial changes from the source material, Season 3 appeared to win over the fanbase and, it was felt, set up the show for even better things to come.

But last month it emerged that Prime Video had decided against renewing The Wheel of Time for Season 4 after what Deadline reported were "lengthy deliberations." Apparently executives liked the show, but couldn’t make it work financially.

Brandon Sanderson, who finished Jordan's The Wheel of Time book series, has gone on the record to offer his thoughts on the series’ cancelation, saying: “I do think it's a shame, as while I had my problems with the show, it had a fanbase who deserved better than a cancelation after the best season. I won't miss being largely ignored; they wanted my name on it for legitimacy, but not to involve me in any meaningful way.”

Now showrunner Rafe Judkins has offered his thoughts in his first comments since the news broke. In a statement published on social media, Judkins said he couldn’t offer “something clear and tidy” to explain the cancelation, but insisted The Wheel of Time was watched “by huge numbers of people all over the world.” He pointed to viewership data to back up his claim, saying The Wheel of Time appeared in the Nielsen Top 10 chart for nearly 20 weeks, “a feat very few shows have been able to match in the last decade.”

Judkins went on to say that he and the team behind the show set out to adapt the entire The Wheel of Time story from the books, and not being able to finish the job “feels like a devastating blow for all of us.”

He then lamented what he called the “trend in TV toward fewer seasons with less episodes and finding quicker ways to acquire additional streaming subscribers,” saying this approach “goes against the fundamental strength of television — long-form storytelling.”

At the time of this article's publication, over 130,000 fans have signed an online petition to “Save The Wheel of Time.” “Finish the story,” the organizers of the petition say on their website. “It deserves to be told in full!” But it feels likely those pleas will fall on deaf ears. While some fans hope Apple may pick up The Wheel of Time for Apple TV+, given the slate of expensive sci-fi and fantasy shows it already has on its books, that is perhaps wishful thinking.

Still, Judkins expressed a degree of hope that someone, somewhere will pick up The Wheel of Time. He pointed to sci-fi show The Expanse, which was canceled by SYFY before Amazon saved it and finished the story.

“So who knows?” Judkins concluded. “Perhaps the Wheel of Time show will do what the books have always managed to do since day one — defy the traditional definitions of ‘beginnings’ and ‘ends.’ I certainly hope it does — because this book series and these fans deserve to see the story finished.”

The comments come amid a new report that claims The Wheel of Time isn’t being shopped around to other streamers. TVLine said its “well-placed sources” confirmed the news that is sure to disappoint fans who’d hoped for Season 4 at least.

Here is Rafe Judkins' comment in full:

I’ve been asked the same question many times the last week — why was The Wheel of Time canceled? And the truth is, I don’t know. I wish I could say something clear and tidy that explains to all those who love it why it’s coming to an end, but sadly, I can’t.
What I can say is that the actors and crew on our show are the most talented and wonderful group of people I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. And we’ve all been incredibly lucky to make something that not only was beloved by fans (and even critics! ha!) but was also watched by huge numbers of people all over the world (appearing in the Nielsen Top 10 for nearly 20 weeks, a feat very few shows have been able to match in the last decade.
One of my core goals in making this show, even from the earliest crafting of the pitch, has been to tell the whole story. Because the Wheel of Time books do what television has always done best — get better as they go. And as our actors and team came on board, they too could see the potential if we were allowed to finish this incredible story. We made many sacrifices, both personal and creative, along the way to get to that ending, so coming up short feels like a devastating blow for all of us.
Much has been written about this larger trend in TV toward fewer seasons with less episodes and finding quicker ways to acquire additional streaming subscribers. But I genuinely believe that this goes against the fundamental strength of television — long-form storytelling. It is an art form, much like epic fantasy, which at its very best, gives people a place to go and spend time with the characters that they love year after year after year. And I believe there are executives, studios, and networks who know that. I believe that we will find our way through this current iteration of the industry and back to what we do best — bringing great characters into people’s living rooms and lives every week.
Will the Wheel of Time get to do that with another network and finish the story? Sadly, it’s not something that happens often. But it does happen. In fact, one of the reasons we first chose Amazon as a home for the show was because they were in the midst of picking up The Expanse after SYFY cancelled it.
So who knows? Perhaps the Wheel of Time show will do what the books have always managed to do since day one — defy the traditional definitions of “beginnings” and “ends.” I certainly hope it does — because this book series and these fans deserve to see the story finished.

Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher Exclusive Trailer Debut

Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher – the first documentary film from Legendary’s Unscripted division – tells the story of Willis Gibson, aka Blue Scuti, who, on December 21, 2023, was the first person in history to beat Tetris, a feat long thought impossible. And he did it at just age 13.

The success thrust Gibson into the spotlight overnight. But it was the timing of his achievement that makes his story that much more poignant and powerful as it came just days after the death of his dad, Adam. (Willis’ mom, Karin Gibson, also appears in the documentary.)

Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher serves then not only as a chronicle of one gamer’s biggest win but also as, the film’s official synopsis puts it, “a coming-of-age story about overcoming grief, the power of community, and the rise of an unexpected internet legend.”

The feature-length documentary, written and directed by Chris Moukarbel, will have its world premiere June 11th at the Tribeca Film Festival. IGN has the exclusive first look at the film’s trailer, which can be viewed via the player above or the embed below.

Gibson, now 15, is as surprised as you might think to be the subject of a film and while he’s still only in high school. “It's not something I thought would ever happen. I mean, it's one of those things that are so out there,” Gibson told IGN this week. “Never once in my life did it occur as a possibility because it's just something that never happens.”

“A lot of my friends were really surprised. There was a moment last year for three weeks or two weeks where it was really popular in my school, but then after that it wasn't really much,” said Gibson. “A lot of other people in the Tetris community think that it's really cool, getting more eyes on the community. Just the overall response has been extremely positive.”

Gibson recalled the moment when he knew he’d beaten the game. “I only knew of one spot where the game could crash and when I missed it, I didn't know that when or where it was going to crash. So the fact that I did it right before the run ended, I think that multiplied my expression, like how big it was,” he said. “I wasn't expecting it to happen. I just knew it could. So when it did, I just got extremely happy and was shocked that I got it.”

He hopes that viewers of Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher experience the joy of playing the game and the warmth of the Tetris community.

Maya Rogers, President and CEO of The Tetris Company, echoed that sentiment in a statement provided to IGN: “Willis’ incredible achievement in reaching the Tetris kill screen sparked an unprecedented wave of global interest. It was more than just a milestone — it was a powerful reminder of what Tetris represents: joy, resilience, and the magic of human connection. From the early friendship between creator Alexey Pajitnov and Tetris Company founder Henk Rogers to today’s passionate players, Tetris has always been about community. This was not only a win for Willis, but a proud moment for the entire Tetris family.”

Rogers and her dad Henk – himself the subject of the 2023 Tetris movie starring Taron Egerton – will both be at the Tribeca Film Festival in support of the documentary.

Willis Gibson will also be at Tribeca for next week’s premiere – his first time visiting New York City – but before that he will be competing in this weekend’s Classic Tetris World Championship in Pasadena, California.

In our From the World of John Wick: Ballerina review, writer Clint Gage said, "In spite of a slow start, Ballerina proves she belongs in The World of John Wick with fight choreography that’s every bit as creative (and fun) as anything else the series has given us and a story and character that stand on their own."

If you don't want to wait to add more movies and shows to your collection, there are thankfully plenty of exciting releases coming out this month that are worth keeping on your radar. In our breakdown of upcoming 4K UHD and Blu-ray releases, you can see a big list of movies and shows coming out throughout June and the months ahead. This month features 4K releases of blockbuster classics as well, including the Jaws 50th Anniversary 4K steelbook and Jurassic Park Trilogy 4K steelbooks.

Magic: The Gathering Full Release Schedule for 2025

From soaring with dragons to facing off against Sephiroth and Aang, Magic: The Gathering has a packed year ahead. 2025 marks the first full cycle under Wizards of the Coast’s new release strategy, which splits the calendar evenly between the more classic Magic-original sets and the wildly popular "Universes Beyond" crossovers.

Most of the year’s main sets (aside from Avatar: The Last Airbender) are already available to preorder or buy on Amazon. That said, please also consult your local game store to find out when they're accepting preorders as well.

MTG: 2025 Release Calendar - At a Glance

Here’s your set-by-set guide to what’s dropping in 2025, breaking down release dates, when you can get your hands on everything, where you can preorder, and even includes a running list of every Secret Lair drop so far this year. We're starting off with a quick glance over the 2025 release calendar, but let's jump into a more in-depth look as well.

Universes Beyond: Final Fantasy - Jun. 13

Already revealed to be the best-selling Magic set in the game's almost 35-year history, and it isn’t even out yet, the Universes Beyond Final Fantasy set is a love letter designed by fans for fans.

Featuring a larger set than normal, the cards here will showcase each of the 16 core Final Fantasy games' iconic heroes, villains, creatures, and locations.

The four preconstructed Commander decks are based around specific games, including VI, VII, X, and the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, each of which is available as both standard and collector versions.

This release looks to be one of the biggest launches this year, so grab your gunblade and get ready. We also recently explored our top ten picks to keep an eye out for when ripping open your sealed boosters in a few weeks.

While most of the commander decks and various other bundles are currently out of stock at major retailers, here's the pages to bookmark come June 13 in case anywhere restocks on the day. It's also worth bookmarking this page, and following @IGNDeals on Twitter/X and Bluesky for further updates on restocks in the coming weeks.

Top Cards to Score on Release Week

With nearly 700 cards in the Final Fantasy set, including Extended Art, Borderless, and Surge Foil variants, there’s a lot to track. But a few standout rares are already turning heads ahead of launch on June 5.

Buying before release day is always a risk, as prices can drop fast once the full set hits, so holster that gunblade, and simply observe for now. Still, if you’re watching the market or planning your pulls, these are the biggest rare cards to keep an eye on right now.

Secret Lair x Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy is also getting its very own Secret Lair release on June 9. These drops will go on sale as part of our Summer Superdrop on June 9, 2025, at 9 a.m. PT (June 10 at 1 a.m. JST), exclusively at MagicSecretLair.

These drops are available in limited quantities. Here's everything in the set.

  • Secret Lair x Final Fantasy: Game Over (Jun 9) - 5 cards
    • Spira’s Punishment (Day of Judgement)
    • Absorb into Time (Temporal Extortion)
    • Merciless Poisoning (Toxic Deluge)
    • Unseat the Usurper (Praetor’s Grasp)
    • Meteorfall (Star of Extinction)
  • Secret Lair x Final Fantasy: Grimoire (Jun 9) - 5 cards
    • Yuna’s Holy Magic (Prismatic Ending)
    • Hope’s Aero Magic (Cyclonic Rift)
    • Noctis’ Death Magic (Damn)
    • Vivi’s Thunder Magic (Lightning Bolt)
    • Aerith’s Curage Magic (Heroic Intervention)
  • Secret Lair x Final Fantasy: Weapons (Jun 9) - 5 cards
    • Yuna’s Sending Staff (Staff of the Storyteller)
    • Clive’s Invictus Blade (Blade of Selves)
    • Cloud’s Buster Sword (Umezawa’s Jitte)
    • Gaia’s Dark Hammer (Colossus Hammer)
    • Tidus’s Brotherhood Sword (Sword of Truth and Justice)

Edge of Eternities - Aug. 1

Space, the final frontier. This is the theme for Edge of Eternities, the Summertime Magic set. Its mission, to introduce space-fantasy into the realm of Magic: The Gathering, explore strange new worlds, and to seek out new planeswalkers and combos.

This will mark the first time that Wizards is taking players into a more space-fantasy landscape, including slinging spells against aliens. It remains to be seen if there will be space wizards with swords made of light, however.

Universes Beyond: Marvel’s Spider-Man - Sept. 26

The debut set of the Marvel and Wizards of the Coast partnership features Spider-Man and will be swinging onto shelves this fall!

Players can expect to see cards based around not only Spidey himself but also members of his rogues gallery, including the Green Goblin, Doc Oc, and even the winner of 1988’s “Best Tongue Award," Venom. Unfortunately, this set won’t see any preconstructed decks.

This set will be getting a special type of product, however, with the Scene Box. Along with three play boosters, this set will give you six special borderless art cards that can be positioned to form a single action-packed scene that looks like it was pulled straight from the comics, featuring Spidey fending off villains, which can be displayed on the included paper easel.

Players on Wizards’ digital MTG client, Magic Arena and Magic Online, will also see the Spider-Man set, albeit without Spider-Man. Wizards has opted to create a duplicate Marvel-free set that is functionally identical but without any of the characters or imagery, referred to as “Through the Omenpaths” as a digital-only release.

Universes Beyond Avatar: The Last Airbender - Nov. 21

Closing out the year will be Aang and company with Universes Beyond - Avatar: The Last Airbender. Currently, outside of its existence, very little is known about this set, including what products will be released for it.

All we know is that we players can expect their favorite characters to show up, beautiful artwork, and an elemental showdown. But, if Wizards of the Coast nails the artwork and card mechanics, this could be one of the coolest Universes Beyond sets we have ever seen. Stay tuned for more news.

Every MTG Set Released So Far in 2025

Here's every Magic: The Gathering set released in 2025 so far, ordered from most recent release (Tarkir Dragonstorm), all the way to the first release of the year (Innistrad Remastered).

Tarkir Dragonstorm - Apr. 11 2025 (Out Now)

Tarkir Dragonstorm returns players to the plane of Tarkir, which was last seen back in 2014, and once again features not only a ton of powerful dragons but also the various clans that rule this land.

The five clans, the Abzan Houses, the Jeskai Way, the Sultai Brood, Mardu Horde, and the Temur Froniter, each are built around different slices of the color pie, and this uniqueness is further expanded on with Dragonstor, with each clan, along with the dragons themselves, featuring new specialty mechanics tailored to their playstyle.

Big creatures, cool abilities, and more dragons to cram into your Ur Dragon EDH deck are here for fans, and on the topic of Commander, this set also features five different precon decks, with each one made for each clan.

Aetherdrift - Feb. 14 2025 (Out Now)

If you were to summarize Aetherdrift as “Magic with racecars,” you would be a good 80% there. A large, multiversal race, known as the Ghirapur Grand Prix, is taking place in Avishkar, and racers from planes including Duskmourn and Amonket, among others are in attendance.

One of the special mechanics unique to Aetherdrift is “Speed,” where cards can get better, the more of these speed tokens they have, and along with the special showcase art cards, which resemble ’80s racing posters, really help the “professional racing” aesthetic land with this set. It also has Chandra the Planeswalker doing the Akira slide on a card.

Innistrad Remastered - Jan. 24. 2025 (Out Now)

Innistrad is Magic’s original Gothic Horror plane that first dropped back in 2011. These Remastered sets are special releases that include beloved card reprints and mechanics with some updates sprinkled in.

Innistrad Remastered started out the year giving players a new chance to get fan-favorite cards like Edgar Markov, Liliana of the Veil, and Archangel Avacyn. This set is a great way to introduce newer players to some of the game’s fabled history.

Secret Lair X KEXP: Where the Music Matters - April 28

This set of Land cards includes two of each basic land type for a total of 10 in the set, and is inspired by the independent radio station KEXP.

Secret Lair X KEXP: You Are Not Alone - April 28

Another KEXP collab, this one has a series of colorful card varients that lean into a “group-hug” deck theme. Cultural Exchange, Folio of Fancies, Concordant Crossroads, Rites of Flourishing and Font of Mythos are included.

Everyone’s Invited! - May 12

This double rainbow foil Secret Lair drop is still available (for $200, we might add) and includes Shapeshifters, Dryads, Elementals, Faeries, Slivers, Cats and more. Ten foil cards, four foil tokens, one foil display card and 90 reprints.

The latest set at the time of writing includes Marwyn, the Nurturer as well as Liesa, Shroud of Dusk, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, and Slythis, Harvest’s Hand.

MTG Product Key - What to Buy?

Here is a breakdown of the standard types of products that sets release with and what they include.

Play Boosters

These are standard bread-and-butter 15-card packs of random cards. Each pack is composed of 7 common cards, 3 uncommon cards, 1 rare or mythic rare card, 1 basic land, 1 non-foil wild car, 1 foil wild card, and 1 ad, token, helper, or art card.

Most booster boxes contain 30 of these 15-card packs, though some special sets may contain fewer (usually 24).

Collector Boosters

Much like the Play Boosters, Collector Boosters also have 15 random cards in the pack. Still, these special packs contain more cards of higher rarities, special foiling, unique art or bordered cards, double-sided tokens, and potentially other bonuses.

These packs are also far more expensive than a typical Play Booster, and Collector Booster Boxes also only contain 12 packs of these elusive cards.

Commander Decks

The Commander format may have started as a community-driven format, but Wizards of the Coast has adopted it and now releases its own preconstructed 100-card Commander decks.

Each deck comes with two possible cards that can serve as the deck’s commander (Commander creatures have to be a Legendary creature, and whose color identity dictates the color cards that can be included in the deck.)

Each deck contains any required tokens for the deck, a 2-card Collector Booster sample pack, a strategy insert explaining its respective deck, and a reference card.

Collector’s Edition Commander Decks

Similar to Collector Boosters, these special Commander decks are functionally identical to their standard version counterparts, except with some special art and foiling for collectors.

Their prices are also far higher, and their lower print runs make them tough to get.

Bundle

Bundle products are great options for gifts, or if you want some packs of cards but also some nifty extras, too. Each bundle comes with 9 Play Booster packs, a bunch of basic land cards (unique to the given set), a pretty dice (usually a d20), and a storage box.

If you and each friend get a bundle, it can make for a fun draft experience, too.

Gift Bundle

The Gift Bundle is nearly identical to the standard bundle except for two things—it comes with a Collector Booster in addition to the standard nine play boosters, and the storage box has a bit more flair and foiling.

Prerelease Packs

Prerelease packs are special releases that you can get at your local game store during a set’s Prerelease launch event, containing six play boosters, a special promo card, and a special life counter - everything you need to create a small 40-card deck to compete against other attendees.

There tend to be various themes of these packs for players to pick from, with some cards that are more tailored to that specific faction or color combination.

Starter Kit

The Starter Kit is a product designed to introduce the game to new players. It contains two 60-card decks, boxes to store them, and instructional aids to help walk the two players through their first games.

As an added bonus, these also tend to include redemption codes to unlock the decks on Magic Arena, the digital Magic: The Gathering platform.

Released Sets of 2024: A Look Back

Magic: The Gathering Foundations – November 15, 2024

Capping off the year, Foundations arrived as Magic’s new entry-level product aimed squarely at newcomers. With simplified cards, curated reprints, and a structure reminiscent of Jumpstart, it was designed to make onboarding smoother than ever.

It’s the clearest sign yet that Wizards wants to bolster Magic’s long-term future by making the game more accessible without sacrificing its core identity.

Duskmourn: House of Horror – October 2024

Halloween season brought with it Duskmourn: House of Horror, one of the boldest thematic swings Magic has taken in years. Set entirely within a haunted mansion, it channeled modern horror vibes through its claustrophobic design, disturbing card art, and jump scare flavor. Instead of the usual plane-spanning scope, this set kept things intimate and creepy — and it worked.

Bloomburrow – August 2, 2024

If Duskmourn was the year’s most terrifying set, Bloomburrow was its most adorable. Set on a plane with no humans, it introduced a cast of heroic woodland critters — squirrels, frogs, bats, and more — banding together to defend their home. With its storybook aesthetic and approachable mechanics, Bloomburrow offered a lighter, friendlier take on the game that still held plenty of strategic depth.

Secret Lair: Monty Python and the Holy Grail – July 29, 2024

A standout among this year’s Secret Lair drops, the Monty Python and the Holy Grail collaboration leaned fully into the absurd. Split across two releases, it packed classic Magic cards with deeply specific Python references — from coconuts-as-horses to the European vs. African swallow gag — making it a bizarre, quotable delight for fans of the 1975 film.

Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed – July 5, 2024

July also saw the release of Magic’s crossover with Assassin’s Creed, adding another chapter to the Universes Beyond initiative. Sold in Beyond Boosters rather than traditional draft packs, the set emphasized thematic resonance over gameplay structure. Featuring major characters like Ezio, Altair, and historical icons like Leonardo da Vinci, it managed to blend stealth and strategy while staying Modern-legal.

Modern Horizons 3 – June 14, 2024

The third Modern Horizons entry didn’t hold back. Released in June, it introduced powerful new cards, format-defining reprints, and returning mechanics like Energy. Double-faced planeswalkers made a triumphant comeback, echoing Magic Origins, and familiar worlds like Zendikar and Theros helped inject a nostalgic punch. The draft format, meanwhile, was one of the deepest of the year.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction – April 19, 2024

Magic went full Western in April with Outlaws of Thunder Junction, a stylish and surprisingly villain-centric set. This was a rootin’-tootin’ showcase of bandits, bounty hunters, and black hats, complete with new mechanics like Plot and Spree. It pushed flavor to the forefront, giving Magic one of its most cohesive and playful settings in recent memory.

Universes Beyond: Fallout – March 8, 2024

March gave Commander players a radioactive treat with Universes Beyond: Fallout. The set delivered four thematically distinct Commander decks, tapping into iconic factions and characters from the Fallout games — Brotherhood of Steel, Super Mutants, Vault Dwellers, and more. With its retro-futuristic flair and solid deck construction, it proved a strong crossover effort.

Murders at Karlov Manor – February 9, 2024

Murders at Karlov Manor reimagined Ravnica through the lens of a murder mystery, complete with suspects, disguises, and evidence to collect. It introduced new mechanics to match the whodunit theme and even crossed over with Clue for an extra meta twist. It was a narrative-forward set that let Magic flex some genre muscles outside of its usual fantasy fare.

Ravnica Remastered – January 12, 2024

The year opened with a love letter to one of Magic’s most beloved settings. Ravnica Remastered compiled highlights from the city-plane’s long history, featuring cards from across its three blocks with updated art and retro-frame treatments. From powerful shock lands to fan-favorite guild cards, it was a nostalgia-rich start to the year for both collectors and players alike.

Tom Cruise Did So Many Burning Parachute Jumps Filming Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning That He Won a Guinness World Record

Here’s the thing about Tom Cruise: we may never have another truly fearless actor like him again. The man hung from a biplane for real, after all, in his latest film Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Oh, and not to make things more complicated, his parachute catches on fire once he drops from the plane and he has to quickly cut himself free and deploy a second chute. Well, he could’ve done the plane stunt, we well know, but surely he didn’t also set himself ablaze, right?

Wrong. Cruise did jump from a helicopter at 7,500 feet in Drakensberg, South Africa with a fuel-soaked main parachute that was rigged to be set on fire, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a death-defying stunt he performed a terrifying 16 times. Sheesh.

“What I’m going to do is I’m going to be deploying,” Cruise explained to crew members in a recent video that highlights the work that went into making the stunt work behind the scenes. “[And] if this is twisted while it’s burning, I’m going to be spinning and burning. I have to kick out of the twist and then ignite. I got 10 seconds.”

As a result, Guinness World Records has declared that Cruise set a record for “the most burning parachute jumps by an individual."

Most burning parachute jumps by an individual - 16🪂🔥

Congratulations @TomCruise 👏 pic.twitter.com/AkHBtKFlrP

— Guinness World Records (@GWR) June 5, 2025

“Tom is no stranger to record breaking,” Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, said. “Over his impressively long and consistent career, he’s proved himself to be the most powerful actor in Hollywood and the most bankable star, and he’s still the actor with the most consecutive $100 million movies on their resume and the most successful leading action hero at the worldwide box office.”

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning joined Sinners in passing the $350 million mark over the weekend. Cruise’s eighth Mission: Impossible film is now up to $353.818 million globally, with positive word of mouth helping fuel a 33% drop from opening weekend. IGN's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning review returned a 6/10. We said: "The action thrills, but the soapy tone keeps greatness just out of reach for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning."

The Ritual Review

Between Cuckoo, Abigail, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, 2024 was a big year for Dan Stevens doing silly voices. So it’s disappointing to see (or rather, hear) that the English actor isn’t doing one of his signature accents in The Ritual – until you remember that, for him, the dialect of the Iowan setting is exotic. Still, Stevens tamps down his natural hamminess for this serious-minded exorcism movie, which despite its supernatural subject matter, should be classified as a horror-drama rather than as a straight-up horror picture.

The Ritual presents itself as a historical document, opening with onscreen text touting its real-life inspiration, the alleged demonic possession of Emma Schmidt (a.k.a. Anna Ecklund), as the “most thoroughly documented case of demonic possession in American history.” That’s not to say that co-writer and director David Midell lacks showmanship: The intro quickly cuts to Stevens’ character, Father Joseph Steiger, fleeing the scene during an especially dramatic part of Anna’s exorcism. Very expected jump scares aside, the plot unfolds in the matter-of-fact style of an official report, with sober performances, slightly formal dialogue, and a modest, well-scrubbed approximation of an early-20th-century Franciscan convent.

Middell leaves room for doubt whether Emma (played here by Abigail Cowen) is actually suffering from possession or mental illness. There’s potential here to turn Emma’s story into a critique of the Catholic Church, or to question the role faith itself played in her months-long ordeal. But the bishop (Patrick Fabian) who comes to visit Steiger at the beginning of the film has done his due diligence. The Capuchin monk charged with actually performing the ceremony, Theophilus Riesinger (Al Pacino), approaches his work with compassion. Everyone has good intentions, shifting blame from the church and onto more nebulous – and therefore blameless – forces.

One of these is the Devil and his minions — although it’s more agnostic than most, The Ritual is ultimately respectful of Catholic dogma. (For a more radical recent take on the theme, see 2023’s Godless: The Eastfield Exorcism.) It’s difficult to say whether realistic scenes of Emma seizing and foaming at the mouth are more disturbing if they’re motivated by earnest, but incorrect belief or by actual demonic forces; the movie trades on this discomfort, but ultimately loses impact by refusing to choose a side.

One aspect that brings The Ritual out of the 1920s and into the 2020s is its focus on the women who live at the convent, a feminist angle that feels organic and unforced. Emma herself is a tortured, victimized blank, but Sister Rose (Ashley Greene), who assists in the exorcisms, and the convent’s Mother Superior (Patricia Heaton) experience the same doubts and dangers as their male counterparts – more, in Sister Rose’s case, after she’s violently attacked during one of the rituals. Greene and Heaton give surprisingly good performances, and their roles are an interesting departure from the machismo of the subgenre’s hero priests.

Pacino is a minor character by comparison, and relatively subdued – although he and his brother in overacting Stevens do get to climb the walls a little in the more intense exorcism scenes. (Metaphorically, of course. The actual wall-climbing is saved for the possessed girl.) Riesinger and Steiger’s dynamic is similar to that of Fathers Merrin and Karras in The Exorcist, and that’s not a coincidence: The Ecklund case was one of several that formed the basis for William Peter Blatty’s bestselling novel and its William Friedkin-directed film adaptation. But this is a liability as much as an asset. The parts of the story that made it into The Exorcist have become tropes through repetition, which lends a certain mustiness to The Ritual’s possession scenes.

The Ritual's combination of self-serious storytelling and deeply unserious filmmaking choices proves fatal.

Steiger’s torment – in which the demon mocks him by telling him that his brother, who died by suicide, is burning in hell – also feels like a rehash. His role in the exorcism is to observe and document, and his role in the story is to be troubled enough by Emma’s treatment to debate it right up until the harrowing finale. That’s where The Ritual’s confinement to a handful of neat, claustrophobic rooms finally pays off: Using tight framing and shaky handheld camerawork, Midell ratchets the mood to a state of frenzied panic.

Unfortunately, this follows 90 less effective minutes of that very same style of framing and camerawork, which – especially in the dialogue scenes – comes off more like The Office than The Exorcist. Pushing in and out on a character’s face as they talk can’t help but evoke a pithy Jim Halpert one-liner at this point, and it undermines the gravity of The Ritual every time it happens. The shaky cam also makes it difficult to follow what’s going on in the exorcism scenes, which discourages engagement from the audience as much as it encourages terror.

The combination of self-serious storytelling and deeply unserious filmmaking choices proves fatal, as the jumble of influences and intentions fails to produce either a clear artistic thesis or significant entertainment value. With these obstacles, even the presence of major stars like Pacino and Stevens can’t prevent The Ritual from being a promising concept compromised by flawed directorial decisions. It’s a tragic tale of human fallibility – on multiple levels.

Unannounced SpongeBob SquarePants Game Leaked by Not 1 but 2 Age Ratings

Did you know that a new SpongeBob SquarePants game was on the way called SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide? Beyond a very gentle tease late last year neither did we, but the unannounced game has popped up on a couple of rating boards, suggesting we'll get an official reveal soon.

As spotted by Gematsu, Titans of the Tide has been rated in both South Korea and Germany, with the former rating it as suitable for those aged 12 and over, and Germany classifying it as suitable for children aged six and up. In South Korea, the 12+ rating was given due to "minor violence" and "explosions and minor bodily harm." According to USK, the German classification body, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S; interestingly, there's no mention here of Nintendo Switch 2.

As we hunker down ready for a weekend of reveals and announcements, it's possible this news has leaked a little prematurely than THQ Nordic's preferred schedule, and we'll hopefully find out more over the next few days. Watch this space…

There have been loads of SpongeBob SquarePants games over the years across a whole raft of genres, from Monopoly to tennis to kart racing. Most recently, though Patrick took center stage in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game. We thought it was a mediocre 5, writing in our review: "SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game is a simple, physics-based adventure that, despite its charm, lacks the heart to make a splash."

For all the news coming out of Summer Game Fest and IGN Live this weekend, we've got you covered.

After Various Leaks and Voice Actor Comments, Persona 4 Remake Is Reportedly Set for an Official Reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase

Persona 4 Remake — one of the worst-kept secrets in video games — is reportedly set for an official reveal during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase.

Both Windows Central and MP1st reported that the so-far unannounced game will finally get confirmed at the Xbox showcase this Sunday, June 8.

While Atlus’ Persona 4 Remake will be announced during the Xbox Games Showcase, it’s set for launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version remains up in the air.

Persona 4 Remake has endured a number of remarkable leaks from voice actors who have said they are not in the game. Last month, three of the original voice actors said they weren’t coming back for Persona 4 Remake — despite Persona 4 Remake not being announced yet.

That includes Yosuke Hanamura voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, who took to BlueSky to say he would not be reprising his role for "the Persona 4 remake." You know, the one that no one's officially announced yet.

"And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake," said Lowenthal in a since-deleted post. "I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back."

Two more actors from the original game subsequently spoke up, saying they wouldn't reprise their roles. Erin Fitzgerald, the English voice of Chie Satonaka, said she hadn't been asked to come back. And then Amanda Winn Lee chimed in to say she wasn't coming back as Yukiko Amagi.

There have been rumors to this tune bubbling up over the last year, with a recent domain registration fueling hope that its announcement might be coming soon.

Xbox Games Showcase 2025 will be livestreamed on Sunday, June 8, starting at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK time.

Xbox Games Showcase 2025 will offer a look at upcoming titles from across Microsoft’s first-party studios, Microsoft said, “in addition to incredible new titles from our third-party partners across the globe.”

It seems likely Persona 4 Remake is among them.

The Best TVs for Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2, like its predecessors, is a bit of an oddball as far as mainline consoles are concerned. It is, by itself, perfectly functional for gaming, but it does get a little boost if you pair it with a few Switch 2-specific accessories or connect it to a dock and a television.

Even then, it's not operating at the performance level of its peers or what modern televisions are capable of displaying. This hasn't been a major emphasis for Nintendo for a long time: It prefers to rely more heavily on gaming experiences rather than resolution and frame rate. That means that when it is connected to its dock and a television, the Switch 2 is only capable of outputting a 4K resolution signal at up to 60 frames per second. It can go up to 120fps if the resolution drops to 1080p, but the data rate required for both these options is pretty much the same. Oddly, it doesn’t even get VRR when docked – that’s reserved for handheld mode only.

TL;DR - These Are the Best TVs for Nintendo Switch 2:

It's actually so low that every mid to high-end television will be able to support the Switch 2 on any of its HDMI ports. That's an important note because PCs, the PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X all require HDMI 2.1 ports to perform at their peak frame rates, resolutions, and with all features.

So while the Nintendo Switch 2 is by every metric less powerful than other current consoles, that means it also allows us to be more broad with our TV recommendations since it doesn't require the best hardware to run at its max.

Given its focus on entertainment for the whole family, I’m working under the assumption that the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to live in the living room (at least when it comes to my top recommendations). Because of this, I recommend the TCL QM6K and Hisense U8 for their outstanding brightness and value.

If you want a more versatile television that can work as a top-tier option for a Nintendo Switch 2 as well as at least one other console, PC, or Blu-Ray player, then we recommend an OLED, specifically the LG C4 or its higher-end sibling, the G4. I’ve been testing and reviewing TVs for years and am confident that any of the below TVs would make a great addition to your Switch 2 setup.

1. LG C4

Best for most people

The LG C4 is the best TV for gaming for most people. It's probably the most popular series of televisions for gaming thanks to its excellent contrast ratio that ensures highlights pop while at the same time showing deep blacks and vibrant, accurate colors, whether you’re playing on Switch 2 or another console, or just watching a movie or show.

Unfortunately, it doesn't use the Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology like the G series does (more on that below) so it doesn't get as bright as its more premium cousin, which means it isn’t a great pick for rooms that are particularly bright. But if you plan to game in a medium-to-dim lighting room, it has the power to deliver excellent visuals. It also has plenty of high-end inputs, so it can act as the center of a gaming entertainment center and will make Switch 2 games look spectacular.

Although I haven't had the chance to review the latest TV in the C-series line, I did review the LG C2 and it's been my favorite gaming TV brand for years now. The LG C4 is only an improvement over the previous generations.

2. TCL QM6K

Best under $500

In my review of TCL's QM6K TV, I found that the company made some rather large strides forward in 2025 thanks to a completely upgraded backlight system across its product line. The QM6K is an entry-level option – costing under $500 for the 55" size – but because of these improvements, it performs almost as well as a higher-end option from the year prior. It's a great fit for the Nintendo Switch 2 because it is the best affordable option for putting front and center in your brightly lit living room. Even if you have windows facing the screen directly, the QM6K has the power to overcome that glare and provide an excellent gaming experience in, say, the middle of the day.

One area TCL really emphasized this year was its off-angle viewing, which is often poor on mini-LED televisions that use VA panels. That is not an issue with the QM6K, however, and that means games like Mario Kart World or Mario Party will not look different for anyone around the television, even if they're at a more extreme angle in a packed living room.

The TCL QM6K has broad HDR support, including Dolby Vision, HLG, IMAX/IMAX Enhanced, and, most importantly, HDR10 and HDR 10+. The Switch 2 has been confirmed to support HDR10, and the QM6K has the brightness, color fidelity, and built-in support to provide a great viewing and gaming experience.

3. Hisense U8N

Best value

The U8N is Hisense's best television. Given TCL's comeuppance on the entry-level tier with the QM6K, it's the most reasonable option from Hisense where it still competes well. With a mix of excellent inputs, good color, great brightness, and an approachable price for all these benefits, the U8N is a great choice for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The same benefits I mentioned regarding TCL's great brightness apply here. This TV gets blazingly bright at a 3,000-nit peak. Most viewers will prefer to keep it below max brightness, but it's very good at overcoming glare if and when needed. The U8N will shine in the middle of a living room, whether that be at night or right across from big windows with sunlight streaming through. Hisense also layered an anti-reflective surface to the U8N’s panel, further allowing this television to thrive in bright rooms.

There are four HDMI ports, two of which support 4K at up to 144Hz (HDMI 2.1) while the other two support 4K at up to 60Hz (HDMI 2.0). You can save those HDMI 2.1 ports for a PC or PlayStation, though, and attach the Switch to the one standard HDMI port that isn't eARC (use that one for your soundbar or home theater system).

4. LG G4

Best high-end

If you want the best and you are planning to use your television as a base for all of your gaming, Nintendo Switch 2 included, then the best option on the market is the LG G4. It supports HDR 10 and has four HDMI 2.1 ports, meaning you can plug a Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and a PC into this display all at the same time and every single one will work at their best with no downsides. It doesn't even matter which port you choose for which console – they're all top-end.

OLED's downside used to be brightness, and some OLEDs still can't get super bright, but the G4 has no such problem. The 65-inch option reaches around 1,400 nits in most cases, with a peak of 3,000 nits in some rare instances. Most of the G4 models use what LG calls Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology to get this increased brightness, but the largest 97-inch version does not, so keep that in mind.

With that boosted brightness, HDR content looks outstanding as it can contrast with perfect blacks thanks to OLED technology where each pixel is individually controlled. Not only does that mean outstanding rendition of subjects on screen, it also means instantaneous pixel response, which is great for gaming, and no halo effect around bright objects set against a dark background (so no mitigation technology like TCL's, which doesn't even completely eliminate it, is needed). LG's OLED panel is also extremely color accurate and is among the best you can buy today.

LG’s G4 is a spectacular television that, thanks to its boosted brightness, can excel in pretty much any environment. If you want one display to act as the center of your gaming entertainment, you won't find better than the G4 right now. Mario Kart on the Switch 2 will not look any better.

Read my full LG G4 review.

5. TCL QM8K

Best OLED-alternative

Everything that makes the QM6K good is juiced up and even better on the QM8K. If you're willing to spend a bit more, TCL's high-end 2025 offering punches way above its weight class, with incredible brightness (even brighter than the QM6K) and the same high marks for color, off-angle viewing, and HDR support.

The QM8K is shockingly close to OLED when it comes to contrast ratio. If you weren't specifically looking for some small, telltale signs of halo (that's a slight glow around bright objects when they're set against a dark background; think white captions on black), you could probably be convinced that the QM8K was OLED. I've seen them side-by-side and while you can tell, TCL's latest high-end TV gets surprisingly close, especially when compared to other miniLED televisions from competitors.

TCL has also come a long way with its processing and it is very good at reducing artifacts that come as a result of poor streaming quality and is particularly adept at smoothing out color gradations in skies and removes that "blockiness" that can show in low bitrate content.

This might come as a shock, but if the TV is going to be sitting in a living room with a lot of windows, I would take the QM8K over the LG G4 for my Nintendo Switch 2, despite the fact the latter is OLED. This is because the brightness is just so much better on TCL's option and I prefer Google TV as an operating system over LG’s WebOS. Plus, TCL’s gorgeous slim bezel design is just so impressive.

How to Pick the Best TV for the Nintendo Switch 2

When picking a TV to pair with your Nintendo Switch 2, it is less important to pay close attention to things like refresh rate, display type, and inputs than if you were buying a TV for your PS5 or Xbox Series X. The Switch 2 doesn't require top-of-the-line hardware and will work at its best on the baseline technologies found on basically all televisions in 2025.

That said, there are software features that are worth considering, like input lag, and the options on the guide above all will work great. Usually, we would also include VRR (variable refresh rate) in this as well, but the Switch 2 doesn’t support it in docked mode, so it is a non-factor here.

TV size and screen placement can affect your experience outside of specs alone, with issues like glare able to thwart your best-laid plans. We’d suggest testing the room’s natural lighting over a full day to avoid running into any problems. With this in mind, our list includes TVs with multiple size and peak brightness options so you can adequately find a match to fit your living space. When switching between sizes while shopping, be sure to recheck the specs to ensure you are happy with the details of the model.

TV for Switch 2 FAQ

Do I need a specific kind of TV for my Nintendo Switch 2?

If your TV has a basic HDMI port, it will work with your Nintendo Switch 2, for all intents and purposes. Because it's not capable of taking advantage of top-end inputs, the quality of HDMI cable you need is less important. The HDMI cable shipped with your Switch 2 will be all you need.

Do I need a 120Hz refresh rate TV for my Switch 2?

No, although some gamers might prefer to sacrifice resolution for frame rate. The Nintendo Switch can only perform 120Hz at 1080p resolution, not 4K, and the support for going between these two will vary game to game. Every TV on this guide supports the ability to swap between those two options at will, but some televisions you might come across will not support 120Hz. Luckily, 60Hz is all you need if you only intend to play games at 4K, so keep that in mind when selecting your television.

When do gaming TVs for the Nintendo Switch go on sale?

In general, the best time to buy a new TV for any reason is on Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day every year. Both of these sales will have discounts on pretty much every brand available, including some of the best overall TVs for PS5 owners. Outside of those two shopping holidays, you can usually find TV discounts in January after new models are released or during various other holiday sales events throughout the year.

As Switch 2 Customers With Damaged Consoles Are Offered Replacements, Nintendo Points to GameStop Statement That Uses 1999 Film Office Space to Joke That 'Staplers Have Been Confiscated'

Nintendo and GameStop have addressed the Switch 2 launch day issue of consoles being sold to customers with broken screens, after staples were used to attach receipts onto the Switch 2's box.

As impacted fans have now told IGN, GameStop has begun offering replacement Nintendo Switch 2 consoles sourced from other nearby stores.

The major U.S. retailer has also issued a short statement on the matter — which Nintendo itself pointed to when contacted by IGN asking for comment — that seeks to make clear that GameStop employees only damaged dozens of consoles in one of its stores.

"We've addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens — isolated to one store," GameStop said in a post on social media.

"Replacements have been offered. Staplers have been confiscated," it continued, alongside a short clip from 1999 comedy film Office Space, where an employee gets a stapler taken from their desk by their boss.

Numerous fans who attended the midnight launch of Switch 2 at the Forest Avenue branch of GameStop in Staten Island were left to discover their console screens had been punctured by staples after opening their new purchases.

Some criticised the store's decision to staple receipts to Switch 2 boxes, while others pointed out the design of Nintendo's Switch 2 packaging — which positions the console's main unit against the side of its thin cardboard box, screen facing outwards.

"I knew this would happen," another fan wrote on social media. "It was a weird decision by Nintendo to have the screen sit face-side-up at the very top of the box with only the thin cardboard to protect it. You're going to hear about a few damaged screens in the coming days. They are at risk just being stacked in shipping."

IGN has asked Nintendo and GameSpot if other stores have been warned not to do similar, and whether packaging could be changed to make Switch 2 consoles more secure — from staples or otherwise.

"GameStop did right by me," one fan told IGN today, after receiving a punctured Switch 2 at the console's midnight launch. "They traded it in for a new system. They must of sent a shipment of Switch 2's to that location today to fix the staple problem."

Another customer, who also got their Switch 2 replaced, said they had been told GameStop moved quickly to pull spare stock from other local stores in order to provide replacements.

Ridley Scott Says He's 'Done Enough' With the Alien Franchise: 'I Just Hope It Goes Further'

Legendary director Ridley Scott has indicated he has moved on from the Alien franchise, declaring: “I think I’ve done enough.”

The 87-year-old English film director and producer, who directed 1979’s seminal sci-fi horror Alien before reviving the franchise with 2012’s Prometheus, told ScreenRant in a recent interview: “Where it’s going now, I think I’ve done enough, and I just hope it goes further.”

Scott has left Alien in capable hands, with the successful Alien: Romulus from Fede Álvarez and FX TV series Alien: Earth from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. Alien: Romulus did so well a sequel is in the works. And there are a number of Alien crossover references in the upcoming Predator: Badlands.

In the same interview, Scott talked about how the Alien franchise dropped off after 1997’s Alien: Resurrection, and how that fueled his desire to revive the series with Prometheus. Scott followed up on Prometheus with 2017’s Alien: Covenant, where the Alien franchise was left in terms of mainline films until last year’s Alien: Romulus.

"I think I felt it was deadened after 4," he said. "I think mine was pretty damn good, and I think Jim's [Aliens director James Cameron] was good, and I have to say the rest were not very good. And I thought, 'F**k, that's the end of a franchise which should be as important as bloody Star Trek or Star Wars,' which I think is phenomenal."

He added: “A number of years after, I said, 'I'm going to resurrect this,' [and wrote] Prometheus from scratch — a blank sheet of paper. Damon Lindelof and I sat then hammered out Prometheus.

"It was very present and very welcome. The audience really wanted more. I said, 'It needs to fly.' No-one was coming for it, [and] I went once again [and made] Alien Covenant, and it worked too. Where it's going now, I think I've done enough, and I just hope it goes further."

While Scott has ruled out directing another Alien movie, he was a producer on Alien: Romulus and is an executive producer on Alien: Earth via his production company, Scott Free. Speaking of Alien: Earth, its first full trailer left plenty to chew on for fans.

Summer 2025 State of Play Breaks Viewing Record for Sony

The bumper State of Play June 2025 showcase set a peak concurrent viewership record for Sony.

Sony kicked off the summer reveal season with a bang, presenting a smorgasbord of new games to whet our appetites going into Summer Games Fest Week, including peeks at 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f.

According to Streams Charts, this week's State of Play peaked at over 2.2 million live viewers for the first time in the series’ history. According to data compiled by the website, State of Play now ranks as the third most-popular gaming or tech showcase of 2025 by peak concurrent viewership. Only two Nintendo Direct presentations pulled in bigger numbers (understandably, Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal is top by a long way).

As spotted by Push Square, the State of Play wasn't Sony's most-watched livestream ever — that honor goes to the PS5 reveal event, which currently boasts 44 million views. The Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Forbidden Dawn presentations were also astonishingly popular, clocking up 15 and 10 million views, respectively. But Tuesday's livestream remains hands-down the most popular State of Play showing ever.

The State of Play focused on third-party — and particularly Japanese developers — with strong announcements from the likes of Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami, ArtPlay, Square Enix, and Team Ninja. There were surprisingly few first-party titles in the presentation.

It also felt very much like this year's summer presentation was focused on committed gamers, too. There seemed to be a propensity of action games, many of which will likely come with mature/18+ ratings.

Need to catch up? We've got you covered — here's everything announced at PlayStation State of Play 2025 earlier this week.

Nintendo Switch 2's Best-Selling eShop Launch Games Revealed — and Those $10 Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Upgrades Are Right Up There

24 hours into the life of Nintendo Switch 2, it's time to look at what's selling best on the new console's eShop — and get a sense of just how popular those rather minimal-looking Zelda upgrades have been.

Top of the Switch 2 eShop charts at the time of writing is, of course, Mario Kart World — the console's flagship launch title that many (most?) owners will have picked up alongside the console.

It's no surprise to see this in the top spot, and anyone who bought the Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World included will have contributed to its placing here, as you'll have had to redeem an eShop code and download its digital version.

Next up, perhaps surprisingly, is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. Developer CD Projekt will no doubt be delighted to see its latest game doing so well on Switch 2, after it previously skipped Nintendo's last-gen console. With the power to run Cyberpunk's Night City now available, Switch 2 owners look to have jumped at the chance to catch up with the open-world RPG. Earlier this week, IGN chatted with CD Projekt to find out how the developer managed to get Cyberpunk 2077 working on Switch 2.

Third is Nintendo's own Switch 2 Welcome Tour. This is the $10 collection of mini-games and tech demos that many fans believe should have been offered for free (and after an hour with the game myself last night, I am inclined to agree). Part instruction manual, part interactive museum exhibit, Welcome Tour is at least fairly cheap. (Just remember you'll need a camera and a separate controller/grip with GL/GR buttons to play everything included in it.)

The fourth best-selling game on the Switch 2 eShop right now is Fast Fusion, a game which you may not have heard of. This fast-paced sci-fi racer is an interesting addition to the console's launch line-up, as developer Shin'en Multimdia previously released the similar Fast RMX as a launch title for the original Switch, back in March 2017. Why is this series popular with Nintendo fans? Well, because it is essentially F-Zero. And without a new F-Zero from Nintendo anytime soon (if ever again), hardcore Nintendo fans love it.

The fifth biggest game on the Switch 2 eShop is not actually a game, but an upgrade — yes, it's the $10 upgrade to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's interesting to see this chart so highly, as Nintendo Switch Online subscribers do get this add-on included as part of their membership. But perhaps fans have decided they want it to keep? Or maybe they haven't realised. Regardless, the fact this upgrade is so popular clearly shows Nintendo was right to assume people would pay up for some improved visuals (something you get free in upgrades to other titles, such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet), plus access to a new mobile app.

Sixth on the Switch 2 eShop right now is Deltarune, which just launched its latest chapters this week. Seventh is the $10 upgrade pack for Zelda: Breath of the Wild (as an older game, perhaps fewer people are still playing it compared to Tears of the Kingdom).

In eighth place is relaxing role-player Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, while ninth place goes to Square Enix's Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster. This is followed by Yakuza 0 and Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 Fighters Edition.

After these, the full Switch 2 Editions of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild sandwich Hitman World of Assassination. And lastly in the chart is Hogwarts Legacy, whose Switch 2 version features a number of graphical upgrades. A $10 upgrade for this Harry Potter prequel RPG is also available if you owned the game on the original Switch.

Finally, here is the Switch 2 eShop launch day chart as a handy list:

  1. Mario Kart World
  2. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition
  3. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
  4. Fast Fusion
  5. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Upgrade Pack
  6. Deltarune
  7. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Upgrade Pack
  8. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time
  9. Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster
  10. Yakuza 0
  11. Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 Fighters Edition
  12. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Switch 2 Edition
  13. Hitman: World of Assassination
  14. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Switch 2 Edition
  15. Hogwarts Legacy
