We’ve tried NVIDIA Smooth Motion, here are our thoughts

Last week, NVIDIA launched a new feature for the RTX50 series GPUs that is similar to AMD’s AFMF, called Smooth Motion. Smooth Motion allows you to enable Frame Generation in games that do not support DLSS 3 FG. So, how good – or bad – is it? Let’s find out. For our tests, we used … Continue reading We’ve tried NVIDIA Smooth Motion, here are our thoughts

The Sleeping Dogs Movie IS in Development and We’re Hearing Shang-Chi Star Simu Liu Is Set to Play Wei Shen

This week, Marvel Cinematic Universe star Simu Liu got Sleeping Dogs fans excited when he tweeted to say he was working with the rights holders to bring the much-loved video game to the big screen.

It turns out things are a little further ahead than that. A source close to the project has told IGN that the Sleeping Dogs movie is in development, and we’re hearing Simu Liu, who plays Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is producing and set to play the lead role of Wei Shen.

IGN has asked Square Enix for comment.

Sleeping Dogs was first released in 2012 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC and tells the story of detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates one of Hong Kong's notorious Triad crime syndicates. While it failed to meet publisher Square Enix's lofty sales expectations, it is much-loved by fans and sequel hopes have followed it ever since.

The original adaptation was announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen set to star, but the film disappeared a year later and, just a few weeks ago, Yen himself confirmed it had been scrapped.

“I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights," Yen told Polygon.

"I waited for years. Years. And I really want to do it. I have all these visions in my head, and unfortunately… I don’t know, you know how Hollywood goes, right? I spent many, many years on it. It was an unfortunate thing. Well, on to better things."

So when Liu tweeted to say he was working to make the Sleeping Dogs movie a reality, there was a degree of confusion among fans. Liu himself followed up with another statement that added fuel to the fire, and even revealed his intention to help bring a Sleeping Dogs video game sequel to life.

“So few film projects make it from pitch phase to greenlight,” he said. “Pitching execs who don’t understand the game has been tiring. Everyone’s overwhelming love of Sleeping Dogs here has really given us life!

“First a movie, then a sequel game for everyone… that’s always been the dream.”

IGN can reveal that Story Kitchen is leading the Sleeping Dogs live action feature film project, with Square Enix the rights holder in question. Story Kitchen has form when it comes to video game adaptations, having worked on everything from the Sonic the Hedgehog films to Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider series. It’s currently working on the upcoming Streets of Rage adaptation and an adaptation of It Takes Two for Amazon.

Last year, Story Kitchen announced a film adaptation of Square Enix's Just Cause, with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto signed on. IGN understands the Sleeping Dogs project has a writer and major filmmaker attached to the project, but there’s no release date or word on when production will begin just yet.

The movie marks a significant revival for Sleeping Dogs, which saw its video game sequel canceled in late 2013 before it entered production, and its original developer, United Front Games, shut down three years later. Now, over a decade later, Sleeping Dogs could finally be set for a wake-up call.

Where to Preorder GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Prebuilt Gaming PCs

Par : Eric Song

The first wave of 2025 prebuilt gaming PCs equipped with the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 and 5090 graphics cards are now available for purchase. Best Buy, Amazon, Newegg, Adorama, and B&H Photo all have fresh listings up on their sites starting today. If you're looking for a complete system equipped with one of these current generation GPUs, this will be your best opportunity to get one for a while, or at least until the big OEM manufacturers like Dell (Alienware), HP (Omen), and Lenovo (Legion) release their own systems towards the end of Q1.

If you're looking for a standalone GPU instead of a prebuilt, you've come to the wrong page: Check out our complete RTX 5090 and 5080 preorder guide to see which retailers are likely to have them. Keep in mind that the launch-day stock of GPUs has a good chance of being sold out within hours or even minutes. Retailers have already warned about inventory shortages, and recent Nvidia GPU launches have been marred by bots that buy up mass quantities of GPUs with the intention of reselling at an extremely marked-up rate.

Alienware

Dell just launched its new Alienware Area-51 lineup of gaming PCs today. Currently, it's available in only two configurations - both paired with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K and GeForce RTX 5080 GPU - starting at a bonkers price of $4,449.99. Don't expect to get it right away either; Dell estimates this system to arrive at door by April 22.

Boutique PC Retailers with Built-to-Order RTX 50XX Systems

Some retailers are offering the option to add RTX 5090 and/or 5080 GPUs to select built-to-order systems in their configurators. New RTX 50-series GPU configs are available at iBuyPower, Origin PC, Maingear, Starforge Systems, NZXT, and Digital Storm. Although RTX 50-series systems are readily available this way, keep in mind that build-to-order systems can be very expensive and are usually the least cost effective route.

Dell (Alienware), HP, and Lenovo Prebuilt PCs Coming Later

The big three OEM computer retailers will not equip their prebuilt gaming desktop PCs with the new RTX 50-series GPUs until later in the year. At CES 2025, Dell showcased its Alienware Area 51 gaming PC, which we presume will be equipped with Nvidia's new GPUs. We expect it to launch sometime later in Q1. HP will eventually offer the option to equip the flagship Omen 45L with the RTX 5090 and 5080, hopefully in mid or late February. Lenovo has yet to mention when it'll start adding the new GPUs to its Legion Tower gaming desktops, so there's currently no expected launch date.

Our RTX 5090 FE and 5080 FE Reviews Are Live

The Nvidia 50-series GPUs were officially announced at CES 2025. The emphasis for this round of cards has been on the new and improved AI features over hardware based raster performance. DLSS 4 technology supposedly quadruples the number of frames with minimal visual compromise. These new GPUs do offer a modest performance boost, but opinions are mixed regarding their value for PC gamers relative to the previous generation RTX 40-series cards.

In our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE review, Jackie Thomas wrote that "the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially taken the performance crown from the RTX 4090, but with less force than previous generations. When it comes to traditional non-AI gaming performance, the RTX 5090 provides one of the smallest generational uplifts in recent memory. However, in games that support it, DLSS 4 really does deliver huge performance gains – you just have to make your peace with the fact that 75% of the frames are generated with AI."

In our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review, Jackie offers a similar sentiment. "If you already have a high-end graphics card from the last couple of years, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 doesn’t make a lot of sense – it just doesn’t have much of a performance lead over the RTX 4080, though the extra frames from DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation do make things look better in games that support it. However, for gamers with an older graphics card who want a significant performance boost, the RTX 5080 absolutely provides – doubly so if you’re comfortable with Nvidia’s AI goodies."

The 32" Alienware 4K OLED Gaming Monitor Just Dropped to a New Price Low

Par : Eric Song

The best Alienware high-end gaming monitor deal just got even better. Last week, the 32" Alienware AW3225QF 4K QD OLED gaming monitor dropped to $899.99, matching the deal we saw during Black Friday. Today, there's a brand new 15% off coupon code "MONITORS15" that drops the price even further to $764.99. If you're looking for the best 4K gaming monitor, this should definitely be on your short list. This is the monitor I currently use and highly recommend it.

32" Alienware AW3225QF 4K OLED Monitor

The Alienware AW3225QF was first announced during CES 2024 and is actually Dell's one and only monitor that combines a 4K resolution with an OLED panel. It incorporates Samsung's QD OLED technology; QD OLED panels are brighter than traditional OLED panels while maintaining near infinite response time, contrast ratio, and black levels. The Alienware AW3225QF is HDR True Black 400 certified with up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness. It also boasts a 99.3% DCI-P3 color range and is factory calibrated. Other specs include a 1700R curve, 240Hz refresh rate, and G-Sync certification.

Connectivity-wise, the AW3225QF has two HDMI 2.1 ports (one with eARC) and one DisplayPort 1.4 port, all of which are capable of 4K at up to 240Hz. There are also a couple of USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for attaching peripherals and a single USB Type-C port for charging. Dell backs this monitor up with a three-year warranty that includes burn-in protection.

Something to keep in mind is that 4K monitors require a pretty powerful GPU. 4K resolution has 2.25 times more pixels than QHD; if you want to play games in 4K, especially at frame rates of up to 240fps, you'll want a gaming PC equipped with an GeForce RTX 4070 at the minimum. If your PC is equipped with something as powerful as an RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4090, or RX 7900XTX, then this monitor would be the perfect complement.

Par : Eric Song

Right now, Amazon and Best Buy are offering the current generation Apple iPad Mini (A17 Pro) for only $399.99 shipped after a $100 (20% off) discount. That matches the best deal I saw during Black Friday 2024. If you're looking for an iPad that's both powerful and pocketable, this is your best pick.

2024 Apple iPad Mini (A17 Pro)

The iPad Mini may be the most diminutive tablet of the bunch, but that doesn't mean it's hindered in any way. This is the most compact and portable iPad measuring 7.7" long, 5.3" wide, and only 0.25" thin. The compact form factor still packs in a gorgeous 8.3" Liquid Retina display with True Tone, P3 Wide Color, and ultra-low reflectivity. The new iPad Mini was released in October of 2024 and features some pretty significant improvements over its predecessor, including a more powerful A17 Pro processor, double the base storage capacity, an updated faster Wi-Fi 6e protocol, a USB Type-C port that offers faster charging, and compatibility with the newer Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), and upcoming support for Apple Intelligence.

10 LitRPG Books I Recommend You Start Reading in 2025

Reading is my all-time favorite hobby. I love playing video games and watching TV, sure, but neither of those can truly compare to getting really deep into a great book series. My interest in reading really began with the Harry Potter books and has expanded from there. Since then I've dabbled in sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and even some non-fiction, but I didn't truly find my stride until I discovered the LitRPG genre. My obsession was swift and all-consuming, and now this is the only type of reading I do. If you're interested in joining me in the wonderful world of LitRPG, here are my absolute favorites I would recommend to anyone.

One of the great things about every book I've included here is that they are all available with a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Considering the sheer number of books in some of these series, I would definitely recommend getting a subscription to save some money each month.

What Is LitRPG?

For those who are new to the genre, LitRPG stands for literary role-playing game. This essentially means that the story features some sort of RPG element that is similar to what you'd find in a video game. In some cases this means the main character literally gets pulled into a video game, but the genre is a lot more expansive than that. While all LitRPG will feature some sort of game-like elements, not every book will necessarily be exactly like a video game. What you will find in each of the books I've featured below is some sort of leveling system and power hierarchy the main character must overcome through experience.

1. He Who Fights with Monsters

He Who Fights with Monsters is fast-paced, action packed, and has some of the best lines in any series I’ve ever read. With a universe that features a unique leveling system and great characters, it's a must-read for anyone who loves a good fantasy comedy. This is my overall favorite LitRPG series and have found each new entry to be just as good as the first.

The story follows Jason Asano as he wakes up inside a hedge maze in a magical world with new powers and no hair. His determined and off-balance attitude to his strange new predicament helps him to survive the likes of cannibals, monsters, and even personal relationships with ease. All-in-all, a fantastic book with a morally conflicted main character that you can’t help but love the whole way through.

The He Who Fights with Monsters is currently on book 11 with more on the way from the author, Shirtaloon.

2. The Path of Ascension

The Path of Ascension isn't as traditional as some of the other books on this list in that the main character isn't necessarily pulled into another world. What you do get is an incredibly rich universe built around the idea of magical dungeon portals called rifts and powerful immortals with unique talents.

The story follows Matt, a young orphan who dreams of one day diving into rifts and fighting monsters that were responsible for killing his parents. Unfortunately, when it comes time to learn what his unique talent will be and start planning his future, his dreams are crushed by a detrimental Tier 1 talent. He is forced to overcome his weaknesses and find a way to become powerful through hard work and determination.

While the first book in this series was what got me hooked, its the character development in book two and three really solidified this as one of my favorites.

3. Dungeon Crawler Carl

Dungeon Crawler Carl is a fast-paced adventure that never really slows down. It offers an interesting main character that doesn’t fall into the usual tropes and a wonderful cat named Princess Donut (who is arguably the true main character). What more could you ask for in one of the best LitRPG series of all time?

The story follows Carl, a guy who just happens to be stuck with his ex-girlfriend’s cat when the world ends. Both man and cat are forced to enter an underground dungeon that hosts an intergalactic game show run by the more technologically advanced races and an absolutely unhinged AI. It’s a fun adventure with plenty of great lines, action, and skill progression to keep fans of the genre happy.

The seventh book in this series just came out in 2024 and still managed to maintain the same level of intrigue as book one. The author, Matt Dinniman, has also written other books that are worth checking out if you like his style.

4. Unsouled (Cradle Series)

Similar to The Path of Ascension, the Cradle series doesn't involve the main character getting sucked into another universe. Instead, the author is able to pull you right into an existing world that has depth. With a unique system for cultivating power and a very likeable main character, Unsouled is one of my top picks for anyone who loves fantasy but isn't necessarily interested in full-on LitRPG.

The story follows Lindon, who is born as an "Unsouled" with seemingly no hope to follow any path of the sacred arts of his village. No matter how determined and smart he may be, he is simply destined to remain powerless as others rise above him. That is, until the heavens themselves intervene and give him a path forward.

There are 12 books in the Cradle series and the story ends there with a very satisfying conclusion. If you read this series, and I definitely recommend you do, it's also worth checking out more from Will Wight as everything he writes is quite good.

5. Beware of Chicken

Beware of Chicken is the most unique series on this list. While every other book I've featured here features a lot of action and adventure, this one goes in the opposite direction. This is a tale about a man who leaves the path to power to become a farmer instead.

The story follows a man named Jin Rou. He's a hard-working cultivator working toward mastering martial arts and becoming powerful enough to defy the heavens. Then he dies and someone from earth is pulled into his consciousness. The new Jin Rou decides the world of powerful cultivators is not for him and leaves that all behind to become a farmer and live a nice quiet life. In his quest for peace and quiet, he finds friendship, family, and a surprising source of power he never expected.

The Beware of Chicken series is so unexpected and yet so good. If you want a relaxing read that still scratches that LitRPG fantasy itch, this is it.

6. Defiance of the Fall

As the longest series on my list, Defiance of the Fall is a long-term commitment that is absolutely worthwhile. Book one starts off with a bang and the series never really gets boring as the main character moves on from one challenge to the next.

The story begins with a man named Zachary Atwood, who was alone when the world suddenly integrated into the multiverse. Suddenly accosted by a new "System" with notifications and quests, Zac is forced to survive an invading force with nothing but a hatchet and sheer luck. As he fights his way toward his family, he learns more about the new existence he is in and begins to uncover the secrets of the multiverse.

With 14 books in the series and a 15th on the way, Defiance of the Fall has a lot more to offer beyond book one. The complex leveling system and skill progression is both unique and intriguing, and the story really opens up as soon as Zac moves beyond Earth.

7. Sufficiently Advanced Magic (Arcane Ascension)

The Arcane Ascension series is another option that doesn't bother with stat sheets or complex leveling systems. Instead, you are brought into a world run by powerful god-like beings who offer a special magic called "attunements" to anyone who can survive a run through their dungeon-like spires. The complex magic system is uniquely interesting and you can get to learn more about it as the main character enthusiastically discovers how to utilize it.

The story is in first person following a young man named Corin Cadence. After losing his brother to the Serpent Spire years before, it is now his turn to face the trials within and earn his own attunement. What he finds in the spires are even more questions that he'll have to uncover with the help of new friends he meets at Lorian Heights Academy.

Sufficiently Advanced Magic was the first book that got me hooked on LitRPG. With a magic school setting that makes it feel similar to Harry Potter and a rich fantasy setting, it's an easy introduction to the genre. Andrew Rowe also has multiple companion series that build upon the main story that are worth reading as well.

8. The Grand Game

If you're a fan of stealth games, The Grand Game is an excellent series to dive into. Unlike the other books on this list, the main character of this story is an assassin type who prefers to sneak his way around all of his problems.

The Grand Game follows a young man named Michael, who finds himself in a realm called the Forever Kingdom with no memory to speak of beyond his name. Among many other newcomers, Michael must learn to fight and advance his way through a dungeon of monsters and survive. As he levels up and discovers new skills, he learns more about this world run by a group of elites called Powers and where he fits in the Grand Game.

The Grand Game offers a unique take on the genre that I really enjoyed. Although there are currently only seven books in the series, both book eight and nine are already available for preorder.

9. The Ritualist (The Completionist Chronicles)

If you’re looking for some great entry-level LitRPG books, the Completionist Chronicles are an excellent place to start. It has a lot of the same RPG elements you’d expect to find in an MMO, but with some unique twists that will make it hard to stop reading.

The story primarily follows Joe, an ex-military medic who was seriously injured in action and now has to use wheelchair. When his old friend approaches him with an opportunity to become fully immersed in a new virtual MMORPG, he takes the chance and finds a new life inside the game. Due to his unique situation and skill set, he takes on a secret class called a Ritualist and works to level his magic and skills through quests.

The series evolves pretty rapidly in later books by taking you to entirely different worlds, but it's a fun read the whole way through.

10. Level Up or Die (Underworld Series)

The Underworld series is a slow burn. Unlike some of the other books on this list where the main character gets sucked into a wonderful, yet dangerously magical world, Level Up or Die takes place in the literal underworld.

The story follows Elorian, an average high-school kid that plays a few too many games until he suddenly finds himself stuck in the underworld with a group of fellow gamers. Despite being given magical powers and the ability to infinitely level up, nobody is actually happy to be where they are. Each gamer was brought there by an ancient succubus who is hell-bent on draining them of their excess power as they level up in the dungeons beneath the Earth's crust. With vampires, dragons, demons, and giant lava cats, this series is full of adventure and is a great place to get started with LitRPG.

Forza Horizon 5 On PS5 Isn't The End Of Xbox, But It's A Change That Cannot Be Reversed

Par : Alex Simmons

This is the latest in a series of guest columns from Pure Xbox, a loyal community dedicated to all things Team Green. We bring you all the biggest news from the world of Xbox, as well as features, polls, talking points, reviews and so much more!

Many Xbox fans have been wondering whether one of the 'big three' Xbox franchises – Halo, Gears or Forza – would eventually make their way over to PS5. It turns out Forza Horizon 5 is the first to make the jump, having been officially revealed for Sony's current-gen system with a Spring 2025 release window. Unsurprisingly, fans have been very opinionated about the announcement ever since it dropped.

There's even heartbreak over the decision to move such a treasured Xbox exclusive over to its rival console, but truthfully it's something we've been expecting for a while now. If you read between the lines, Phil Spencer and the team at Xbox have subtly tried to inform us about the "no red lines" rule when it comes to exclusives these days, which most likely means that Halo, Gears, Starfield and many other Xbox franchises will be heading to PS5 and possibly even Nintendo Switch 2 sooner or later.

But why do this? Why risk alienating loyal fans who have aligned themselves with the Xbox brand because of its exclusives? The answer almost certainly lies in the numbers. We've seen time and again how hardware revenue has declined for Microsoft, while income from Xbox content and services has increased. It's no wonder the company's priorities have shifted. This change in strategy means Xbox can focus more on becoming a publishing behemoth while also making its games accessible to more players on all platforms.

Earlier this year Spencer talked about Xbox having "evolved" its identity in order to continue thriving amidst challenging times for the industry. Furthermore, he believes Xbox's new approach would be best adopted by the masses, to allow major developers and publishers to keep making high-budget AAA games. Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler recently agreed with this idea, suggesting that, due to rising game development costs, the industry can only grow if it starts reducing its reliance on exclusives.

Of course, it helps when those former Xbox exclusives actually sell in big numbers. Back in February 2024, Xbox announced that Hi-Fi RUSH, Sea Of Thieves, Pentiment and Grounded would be heading to other systems, and we quickly discovered PlayStation and Nintendo owners had an appetite for games they previously couldn't play. Sea of Thieves, in particular, has become a massive success on PS5, and Microsoft hasn't been shy in highlighting that fact. That said, there was also criticism for suggesting only four titles would make the jump, which inevitably was never going to be the case once PlayStation owners started flocking to them in droves.

And that is the biggest issue I have with Xbox's new strategy at this point. Xbox has embarked on a major marketing campaign claiming every device "is an Xbox", and everyone seems to have understood that message by now. However, it's never really explained what's happening with games going to PS5 and Switch. Initially it was four games, followed by a couple more, and eventually it might (okay, probably will) be Xbox's entire catalogue. Xbox fans still don't have a truly clear picture of what to anticipate, aside from rumours and the occasional hint from Phil Spencer.

Will Microsoft be able to sell hardware without major exclusives as a sweetener, and can Xbox Game Pass shift enough systems on its own?

Forza Horizon 5's debut on PS5 may feel like a new era or even the beginning of the end for some Xbox fans, but really it's just the evolution of a strategy that's been underway for some time – a strategy that's set to be very profitable in 2025. The multiplatform push is in full swing, and even though Microsoft clearly doesn't want to give us much of a roadmap, we're bound to see more Xbox first-party titles on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms before the end of the year. It'll be fantastic from a business and industry perspective, but obviously sad for those who'd prefer Xbox to keeps its games down as exclusives.

There's also no telling how it'll fare in the long run. What happens when the next Xbox console rolls around? What about the Xbox handheld? Will Microsoft be able to sell hardware without major exclusives as a sweetener, and can Xbox Game Pass shift enough systems on its own? I have no doubt Phil Spencer has thought about these questions and more and, hopefully, has answers to them. But there's a feeling of unease throughout the Xbox community right now, and Xbox will have to work harder than ever to keep its loyal fans coming back in the future. I just hope that's enough because Xbox is changing, forever.

  3. Click on Codes on the bottom left of the Shop menu.

Why Isn't My Haikyuu Legends Code Working?

If your Haikyuu Legends code isn't working when you're trying to redeem it in Roblox, it's likely down to one of these two reasons:

  • The Haikyuu Legends code is expired and no longer able to be redeemed.
  • The code is spelled wrong.

When inputting an Haikyuu Legends code into Roblox, ensure it's spelled correctly, there are no accidental spaces either before or after the code, and that it's in the correct case (some codes are case sensitive). If a code is spelled wrong, you'll get a red message that says "Invalid Code."

All the codes on this page have been tested by IGN and work at the time of submission, so we'd recommend copying and pasting any codes directly from this article to avoid any errors. If the code still doesn't work, it's expired and can no longer be redeemed.

Frankenstein: A Brief Timeline of Guillermo del Toro’s 20-Years-in-the-Making Horror Movie

Guillermo del Toro just may be as obsessed as Dr. Frankenstein himself.

During the Next on Netflix preview event this week, the writer-director appeared in a video message to tease his long-awaited, even longer-in-the-works adaptation of Frankenstein. While the filmmaker has said a trailer for the film won’t arrive until this summer, Netflix did reveal a first-look image of Oscar Isaac as the titular, and legendary, mad scientist (see above).

“This film has been on my mind since I was a child — for 50 years,” del Toro said in the video, as reported by Variety. “I’ve been trying to make it for 20 to 25 years. In fact, some people may even think I am a little bit obsessed with Frankenstein.” As he said that last part, he pointed to the many Frankenstein figures and collectibles among the collection in his Frankenstein room in his famed Bleak House.

Del Toro also showed off some footage that included Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein “facing off with Mia Goth as a seemingly well-to-do aristocrat” as well as Jacob Elordi’s Frankenstein’s monster, who apparently has “long black hair, stitched-up gray skin, and a glint of red in his eyes.” (The footage is not being made available online at this time.)

The character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography. -Guillermo del Toro

“You see, over the decades, the character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography,” del Toro continued. “It doesn’t get more personal than this.”

Indeed, the Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy director isn’t exaggerating when he says he’s been working to get Frankenstein made for a very, very long time. Let’s take a quick look at the not-so-quick gestation of Netflix’s Frankenstein movie…

October, 2007: Back in olden days of 2007, a report emerged from the set of Hellboy 2 where GDT said that he “would kill to make” a Frankenstein movie that was a “Miltonian tragedy,” specifically citing the original screenplay draft by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist) as “pretty much perfect.” Kenneth Branagh’s film Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein used Darabont’s script but, according to the writer, it was barely recognizable in the finished film.

January, 2008: By the following year, del Toro told MTV News he was working on the “definitive take” on Frankenstein and had been drawing and designing during the writers strike of that period. “The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries,” he said. “But I think there [are] permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way.” Time will tell if that means his Netflix film will be epic in length…

July, 2008: In 2008, the filmmaker was hired to direct The Hobbit for Peter Jackson. Of course, Jackson would eventually wind up in the director’s chair for that project, but it did mean that del Toro was busy with it until he finally departed in May of 2010. We spoke to him in July of 2008, when he was expecting to spend the next four years working in New Zealand with Jackson. At that time, he was still trying to finalize the details with Universal to write Frankenstein. “I think Frankenstein … is the single most important creature for me in the history of film and literature,” he told IGN. “That and Creature From the Black Lagoon were my two favorite creatures growing up. But Frankenstein is the most endearing to me. And the story I'm planning to tell is not the main story, not the big story that everybody has already … told so masterfully. It's an aleatory take on some aspects of the myth.” He also promised that the film would be a period piece. “Don't worry about me making it happen in the 21st century in Encino.”

In September of that year, he cut a three-year first-look deal with Universal that included making Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Slaughterhouse-Five, and Drood. (None of the films have been made to this day with the exception of the now-in-production Frankenstein, which is happening at a different studio.)

July, 2010: We also learned around this period that GDT’s frequent collaborator Doug Jones (the Hellboy films, Pan's Labyrinth, The Shape of Water) would play the monster, with his make-up design to be based on Bernie Wrightson's legendary comic book version of the tale. In July of 2010, the director said that makeup tests would be shot with Jones and that “Bernie Wrightson designed the creature. That's the man, the go-to-guy for Frankenstein…”

October, 2013: In 2013, I interviewed del Toro about his book Cabinet of Curiosities: My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions, and I asked him if he had given up on making Frankenstein at that point. “Every time I get with Universal, we talk about doing it, and then for whatever reason something else takes over,” he told me. “Right now, I’m busy for the next two years, between finishing The Strain and doing Crimson Peak. So it just happens like that. Your life leapfrogs a couple of years, if not more, when you’re a filmmaker.”

It was also in 2013 that GDT said he was thinking of casting Benedict Cumberbatch in the film. The actor had previously played Dr. Frankenstein and the monster in the Danny Boyle stage version.

July, 2014: In 2014, while on a visit to the set of Crimson Peak, del Toro told Collider that he’d like to make both Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. “[Universal Pictures chairperson] Donna [Langley] has approached me a few times to start it now,” he told the site. “It's like the dream project so I'm a little, I'm a chicken shit, you know? When I do it, I need to do it. Like, if I do Frankenstein, I literally would stop everything, and I’m going to a sabbatical of three years, just to write that. It's not something that’s gonna just flow, like second nature. It's my favorite book in history.”

At the same time, Universal was beginning to develop plans for what would become their doomed Dark Universe, a shared universe of monster movies in the Marvel vein. How del Toro’s Frankenstein would or would not fit into those plans became an open question, though the first and last Dark Universe movie, Tom Cruise’s The Mummy, would bomb in 2017 and put an end to those concerns.

March, 2018: GDT still hadn’t made progress on Frankenstein at this point, but he did make two very different monster-adjacent films in a row with the Gothic horror of Crimson Peak in 2015 and the fish-man-romance The Shape of Water in 2017. The latter was clearly his take on The Creature From the Black Lagoon. And you know what? He won Best Director and Best Picture for Shape of Water at the 2018 Oscars.

July, 2020: By 2020, the filmmaker remained a ways off from getting his Frankie greenlit, but he was still talking about it all the same, saying that his version would take two to three films to fully realize the complexity of Mary Shelley’s novel.

March, 2023: Finally, lightning strikes and the electrodes are super-charged as Netflix, in the wake of their collaboration with GDT on the Oscar-winning animated film Pinocchio, gets behind Frankenstein. Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth are in talks for the film at the time, though eventually Jacob Elordi would replace Garfield due to scheduling reasons.

November, 2025: Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is scheduled to hit Netflix (and also get a theatrical run)!

Are you excited for del Toro’s Frankenstein? Have you gone gray during the years of its development? Let’s discuss/commiserate in the comments!

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer Could Be Coming Sooner Than You Think

Par : Matt Kim

The first trailer for Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie could be dropping sooner than you think.

Fantastic Four: First Steps is one of three Marvel movies premiering in 2025 alongside Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts. However, we’ve still yet to see a trailer for the Fantastic Four film despite its July 25, 2025 release date.

While some suggested a trailer might appear during The Big Game, a now edited press release for Good Morning America seems to indicate the first trailer might premiere next week on February 4, 2025.

ABC’s Good Morning America morning show released its schedule for the upcoming week and for Tuesday’s show, the release said that the show will feature “the debut of the ‘The Fantastic Four: First Stepts” movie trailer. However, the press release has since been edited to remove any mention of the trailer.

'THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS' trailer release has been removed from the Good Morning America schedule. pic.twitter.com/iuu04RUMCb

— Agents of Fandom (@AgentsFandom) February 1, 2025

A trailer for Fantastic Four should be coming soon, especially since we’re months away from the movie’s premiere. However, a surprise appearance on Good Morning America wasn’t as obvious a landing spot as The Big Game. At the same time, Good Morning America’s broadcasting company, ABC, is owned by Disney so it makes sense to showcase the newest Marvel film there.

No plot details have been revealed yet for the Fantastic Four film but the main cast has already been announced with Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. Robert Downey Jr. has been confirmed as Doctor Doom, though how and why Tony Stark is now Doom is the big mystery.

While we’re still months away from Fantastic Four and the start of Phase Six, we still have a new Captain America movie and Thunderbolts to watch in order to finish Phase Five.

How to Redeem Anime Royale Codes

To redeem Anime Royale codes, boot up the Roblox Experience and, once you’re in, follow the steps below:

  1. Anime Royale codes work slightly differently to most other Roblox codes. To redeem a code, first enter the hub world and look for the area labelled Codes. It's shown in the image above and can be found between the Raids and Challenge areas.
  2. When you arrive, walk up to the shrine below the Codes sign.
  3. As you approach the shrine, the codes bar will automatically appear. Input your code and then press Redeem Code to add the rewards to your account.

Why Isn’t My Anime Royale Code Working?

If your Anime Royale code isn’t working, it’s likely due to one of two scenarios. The first is that the code was inputted incorrectly. Make sure you have the code inputted exactly as it is in the Active Codes section above. You can even copy and paste codes directly from this article over to Roblox if you want to make sure you’re inputting them correctly.

The other possibility is the code has expired or you’ve already used it. If your code has been used, a message will appear in the bar reminding you that the code's already been activated. If the code has expired, it'll show up as invalid, meaning its no longer available to use.

How to Get More Anime Royale Codes

If you want to hunt down some extra Anime Royale codes, make your way over to the game's official Discord server. When you've joined, jump into the Game Announcements channel. Whenever a code is added, the devs will drop it in here, so you can copy and paste them directly over to the game.
