Another 2,000 ICE and homeland security agents will reportedly head to the state, targeting immigrant populations

The Trump administration has sent more immigration agents to Minnesota, part of escalating attacks and rhetoric against the state and its immigrant populations in what immigration officials are saying is the agency’s “largest operation to date”.

“A 100% chance of ICE in the Twin Cities — our largest operation to date,” the official Immigration and Customs Enforcement account on X wrote on Tuesday afternoon. “If you’re a criminal illegal alien and/or you are engaged in fraud, expect a visit from ICE.”

Minnesota Hilton cancels ICE agents’ hotel reservations

Move sparks praise but chain says hotel independently operated and cancellations ‘not reflective of Hilton values’

The Department of Homeland Security on Monday said a Hilton hotel canceled reservations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minnesota, where the Trump administration has deployed officers after allegations of fraud against Somali immigrants.

After ICE officers booked rooms using official government emails and rates, Hilton canceled their reservations, the department said in a post on X.

Tim Walz says he will not run for third term as Minnesota governor

Announcement comes after ongoing fraud of social services cases became focus of ire for Republicans and Trump

Tim Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota who ran for vice-president in 2024, announced on Monday that he is abandoning his quest for a third term in office.

The move comes after ongoing fraud of social services cases caught the attention of US Republicans, including Donald Trump, who then used the cases as a pretext to go after Somali residents.

Walz said in a statement that he wasn’t able to “give a political campaign my all”.
