Back in 2022, the team at 1047 Games announced that they would be shutting down their popular Halo-like arena shooter SplitGate in order to focus work on a dedicated sequel. After years of waiting, SplitGate 2 was finally unveiled and released earlier this year in June – to a mixed reception. This ultimately led the team to taking down the game in order to focus on improvements, with plans to return in 2026. Though slightly earlier than expected, the team have now confirmed that SplitGate 2 is officially coming back before the end of the year.

Taking to their blog to discuss SplitGate 2’s final playtest, the team at 1047 Games confirmed that the arena shooter is set to make an official return next month, writing: “Since launching the beta in May, this game has majorly transformed. We started with factions and abilities, and we've rebuilt the entire foundation around what makes Splitgate special: portals, movement, and pure gunplay.”

Discussing the changes made in greater detail, the team continued, “We removed factions entirely and reimagined abilities as power-ups. We brought back classic roundless modes like King of the Hill, Domination, and Team Deathmatch. We added Classic Arena, an even-starts mode that captures the spirit of original Splitgate. We've introduced new maps, new weapons, reworked the menus, and refined systems constantly based on your feedback.”

That’s not all however, with 1047 noting: “we've also added portal overloading and EMPs, fundamentally changing how map control works. We've streamlined equipment to improve combat clarity. We've tuned our controller feel. We've fixed critical bugs and made countless optimizations.”

While SplitGate 1 succeeded thanks to its relatively basic yet solid mechanics, the sequel suffered from 1047 Games trying to do too much, from the aforementioned faction abilities to general pacing – and of course the addition of an unwanted Battle Royale mode (alongside ridiculously overpriced cosmetics).

Much of the franchise’s goodwill was burned with the launch of SplitGate 2, and so it will be interesting to see whether this relaunch will come with much fanfare. We won’t have to wait long to find out.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to 3rd party titles. While some ports have gone above and beyond, others are barely even matching the visual quality of generations-old hardware. One publisher which has shown strong support for the Switch 2 so far is Ubisoft – with the company now fully detailing all the optimisations made for the upcoming port of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The recent release of 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot on the Nintendo Switch 2 has been met with some controversy, with the tech analysts at Digital Foundry confirming that aside from a locked 60fps, the Switch 2 version of the decade-old game in some ways is inferior to the original release on PS3.

Whether it be as a direct result of this revelation, or simply good timing, Ubisoft have now published a blog post detailing all of the work which they have put in to make the upcoming Switch 2 version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows as close as possible to their PS5/Series X|S counter parts, writing:

“Behind the scenes, bringing such a large and detailed open world – originally developed for current-gen home consoles – to Switch 2 required one of Ubisoft's most ambitious technical undertakings to date. The result is a seamless, high-fidelity experience, whether you're playing in handheld or docked mode.”

Going into specifics, Ubisoft confirmed that the Switch 2 version of Shadows will retain many of the home console features, including “the same cloud and cloth simulation systems,” a slightly lower quality “solid baked Global Illumination” (similar to the Series S version) as well as DLSS – allowing for “a sharper image, with more accurate colors, improved textures, and fewer visual anomalies” while maintaining their target of 30fps.

Of course, there will be a bunch of various nips and tucks made in order to optimise the experience (such as slight adjustments to LODs, draw distance; texture resolution NPC counts and more), but overall it seems as though Ubisoft went through the game with a fine-toothed comb in order to ensure Assassin’s Creed Shadows feels like a comparable experience on Nintendo’s latest handheld. It will be interesting to get a more in-depth comparison when the game launches on Switch 2 in early December.

Ubisoft games typically offer a similar level of post-launch support across the board, with a majority of their titles including a Season Pass with a couple expansions alongside smaller content updates. While the team already shared their year one roadmap for Assassin’s Creed Shadows promising that there will be more to come, it appears as though plans for a year-two expansion have now been cancelled.

In an interview with the RPG-focused YouTuber JorRaptor (transcribed by IGN), Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois confirmed that September’s Claws of Awaji expansion will be the only one of its kind for AC: Shadows, stating: “As of now, at this moment for Year Two, there is no expansion on the size of Awaji that is planned.”

Explaining this decision, Comtois continued, “We're still working on content for post-launch and supporting it, but it's not a full-on DLC the way a season pass would have had in the previous years,” adding that “we're trying to re-adjust for Year Two a little bit. There's learning from Year One we can apply to Year Two. Any content we want to do in Year Two will probably be more sparse, not a drip-feed… but chunkier updates that shake things up a little more. I'm not announcing anything at this point but our strategy for Year One was to be quick and reactive, so it means smaller drops often, but for Year Two we don't need to put fires out or anything, so it's more what good, chunky little piece of meat… we can drop and have people come back and enjoy it.”

The strategy taken with Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been rather different when compared to other AC entries. Be it due to low pre-orders, series fatigue or whatever other reason, Ubisoft made major alterations to their Season Pass plans, announcing prior to the game’s release that they would be making the aforementioned Claws of Awaji expansion free for all those who pre-ordered.

Whether this is the primary reason for their change in post-release plans is unknown, but it will be interesting to see what this means for year two of Assassin’s Creed Shadows – and whether breaking away from the formula will wind up working in their favour.

One of Techland’s greatest aspects is the developers’ willingness to update their games for years following their release with both small and major enhancements, features and additions. It appears as though this strategy will not be changing for Dying Light: The Beast, with the game’s first big post-launch patch bringing over 400 improvements – including ray-tracing on PC.

Making the announcement on their Steam page, the team at Techland officially detailed patch 1.4 for Dying Light: The Beast. Described as “our biggest update to date” the patch brings with it a bunch of welcome additions, including but not limited to:

• NewGame+
  • Keep all your gear, weapons and character progression
  • Tougher enemies
  • Higher-tier loot
  • Can be repeated for even better rewards
• Legend Levels
  • Return of the classic Dying Light end-game progression system
  • Grants Legend skill points which can be used for passive upgrades
  • Includes 22 new weapon rewards, a dozen gear pieces and more
• Ray-tracing (PC)
  • RT Shadows
  • RT Global Illumination (lighting)
  • RT Reflections
• 3 new finishers
• Tons of visual, UI and performance fixes

As mentioned, Techland are known for supporting their games for up to a decade, with the original Dying Light from 2015 recently receiving a massive free anniversary remaster and Dying Light 2 getting its big stamina update right before the launch of The Beast.

Assuming the team are planning a similar level of support for their latest game, The Beast could very well wind up being the be(a)st entry in the Dying Light series so far.

SEGA / RGG Studio's Yakuza (Like a Dragon) franchise has only grown in popularity over the years, thanks in part to the release of the prequel Yakuza 0 back in 2015. Following the announcement of a Nintendo Switch port, Yakuza 0 was confirmed to be getting a remaster across all systems early next month. In an unfortunate announcement however, SEGA has now revealed that the original version of Yakuza 0 is set to be delisted in the wake of the Director’s Cut’s release.

Making the announcement via a lengthy Twitter post, the team at RGG Studio confirmed that the original version of Yakuza 0 will be delisted from digital stores following the arrival of the Director’s Cut on the 8th of December, writing:

“Yakuza 0 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam will no longer be available for new purchases from December 8th at 08:30 am PST. Those who get Yakuza 0 by 08:29 am PST on December 8th can continue to download and play the title.”

Curiously, while Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 remasters are also set to arrive on the same day, the originals appear to be staying purchasable for now, with one exception: “The Windows 10 versions of Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will no longer be available for new purchases on the MS Store after December 8th, 09:00 am PST.”

Of course, a game being delisted is always disappointing to see, even if a remaster is being released to replace it. That said, regardless of whether you enjoy the new English voice acting added with the Director’s Cut, having a native current-gen version of the game is welcome to see. Starting off as a bit of a mixed bag of a developer, Bloober Team have slowly but surely proven themselves in the horror genre, with the recent release of Silent Hill 2 Remake in particular showcasing their chops. Even without the Silent Hill name however, the team have shown that they understand the genre, with their new original IP Cronos: The New Dawn having now sold over half a million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the devs at Bloober Team confirmed that “500 000 Travelers are already paving the path through the unforgiving world, distorted between timelines! Here's to another incredible milestone for #CronosNewDawn — thank you from the bottom of our hearts! The vocation continues!”

For the uninitiated, Cronos: The New Dawn is a 3rd person survival horror experience in which players must “survive the brutal wastelands of the future, fight nightmarish merging creatures and jump back in time to harvest souls as you seek to uncover the origins of the apocalypse that wiped out humanity.”

Released in September of this year, the game saw solid reviews from critics, though stronger praise from players themselves owing to its unique atmosphere and vibes.

While Cronos: The New Dawn still has a ways ahead of it if it wants to surpass Silent Hill 2 Remake’s 2.5 million copies sold, half a million in just a few months represents a strong start to a brand new horror IP. Hopefully Bloober Team continue to hone their craft.

In many people’s eyes, Cyberpunk 2077 represents an excellent story of redemption. While the game suffered from an infamous launch, years of updates and post-launch support has made CD Project Red’s latest effort into one of the most celebrated games in recent years – especially from fans of the genre. 5 years on and countless updates later, Cyberpunk 2077 has been announced to have officially sold over 35 million copies.

As part of the company’s latest Q3 2025 earnings report, CDPR officially confirmed that as of the 26th of November 2025, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold a total of 35 million copies – putting it within the top 25 best-selling games of all time (currently in between Hogwarts Legacy and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild).

For context, Cyberpunk 2077 sold millions of copies before the game even released, with the team confirming back in December 2020 that over 8 million players had pre-ordered the title.

As such, it comes as little surprise that the game wound up selling over 13 million copies less than two weeks into its lifecycle (despite plenty of controversies and refunds).

The next major sales update arrived in April of 2022, when the game was confirmed to have surpassed 18 million sales in the wake of its next-gen update – going on to hit 20 million by September of the same year.

The most recent sales update prior to this latest announcement put Cyberpunk 2077 at 30 million copies sold as of November last year. Of course, in the time since they announced the 20 million sales mark, the game had received plenty of additional updates, including the all-important 2.0 patch and the Phantom Liberty expansion.

Over the past year, Cyberpunk 2077 has continued to see a number of smaller-yet-still-welcome updates, adding various quality of life improvements, photo mode enhancements, driving optimisations and more. That said, with the game pretty much complete at this point, it will be interesting to see just how well Cyberpunk 2077 will continue to sell – and whether it will ever reach the total sales of their ‘magnum opus’ The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (60 million).

Despite never promising as much, Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service has on a semi-regular basis added day-one releases to its library of titles. Following on from the likes of FBC: Firebreak; Tales of Kenzera: ZAU and The Rogue Prince of Persia, the highly-unique and visually striking ‘Skate Story’ is set to Join PS Plus on day-one next month.

In a lengthy blogpost detailing the game itself, its mechanics, and the fact that “you’re a skateboarding demon made of glass and pain” Sony officially announced that Skate Story will launch on PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium as a day-one addition on the 8th of December.

Though somewhat hard to describe, Skate Story appears to be a bit of a blend between the likes of Tetris Effect / REZ, the rhythm game ‘Thumper’ and skateboarding – with a bunch of unique elements sprinkled on top.

Beyond the gameplay, Stake Story does focus (unsurprisingly) on its narrative, which features a wide variety of odd characters including “floating skulls, a pillowy demon…a giant frog…a large talking trash bag” and more.

On vibes alone, Skate Story looks to be a fun time. That said, it appears as though there is much more to this game and its world, and so it will be interesting to find out exactly what Stake Story is all about when it launches on the 8th of December. Helldivers 2 has easily been one of PlayStation’s most successful live-service projects, with the co-op shooter continuing to see a consistent playerbase thanks to the addition of new players alongside a stream of additional content. Going live next week, Helldivers 2’s latest ‘Python Commandos’ Premium Warbond introduces a ton of additional firepower including a minigun, new stratagems and more.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Katherine Baskin wrote:

“Helldivers, high-ranking officials in the Ministry of Defense have accused you of being the best. And if you’re the best, then you’re going to need to be outfitted with the best, which is why the Ministry has fast-tracked the deployment of the Python Commandos Premium Warbond – arriving to your Super Destroyers on December 2!”

As with all Warbonds, ‘Python Commandos’ will feature a mixture of new weapons, strategems, armour, capes and more, including but not limited to:

• M-1000 Maxigun (minigun stratagem)
• AX/FLAM-75 ‘Guard Dog’ Hot Dog (flamethrower-equipped drone stratagem)
• CQC-9 Defoliation Tool (stratagem)
• AR/GL-21 One-Two (hybrid assault rifle / grenade launcher primary weapon)
• RS-20 Constrictor light armour set
• RS-40 Best of Prey heavy armour set
• Two new capes
• New patterns (camos) and emotes

Though far from the most content-rich or transformative Warbond, this latest update continues to add plenty of new toys to play with in order to suit your own personal style of liberation.

Bungie is in a bit of an awkward spot right now, with Destiny 2 being in arguably its lowest point ever in the lead-up to their Star Wars-themed Renegades expansion while Marathon continues to try and find its identity through closed play tests. Though unlikely to amount to anything major, a new survey sent out by Bungie seems to hint at a bunch of potential positive changes which could come to Destiny 2.

As reported by the publication TheGamePost, Bungie sent out a closed, invite-only survey to a select number of Destiny 2 players alongside the promise of 500 Silver currency for taking part.

Though purely a hypothetical proposition, Bungie did ask participants to select from a list of “potential features to be added to Destiny 2” – which included but is not limited to:

• New Stasis & Strand abilities
• New, simplified Portal scoring system
• New Void melee abilities
• A Sparrow Racing League event or playlist
• A New Gambit mode or Gambit event
• Added old campaigns and other activities to the Portal
• New PvP Modes
• Unvaulted expansion campaigns such as Red War and Forsaken
• New Clan Upgrade & Progression system
• NPC Sidekicks to equip and fight alongside your guardian
• More random encounters with other players while adventuring
• New Onboarding Experience

Like those listed above, the full and complete set of options covers a wide gamut of the Destiny playerbase, addressing everything from those who enjoy the PvP side of things, to the long-forgotten PvPvE Gambit players; quality-of-life improvements; vaulting issues and much more.

While in a perfect world all of these features and more would already be present in Destiny 2, we unfortunately do not live in such a place – and so we’ll be lucky if ANY of the proposed features find their way into reality.

Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has had an unfortunate development. First announced in late 2020 alongside a January 2021 launch date, reactions to the announcement trailer were far from positive, leading the publisher to delay the title. Since then, the Sands of Time remake has been delayed, delayed again, switched developers, delayed, rebooted, and then finally re-revealed in 2024 (with a couple more delays sprinkled in). The journey may finally be over soon however, with the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake said to be launching as soon as this January.

As reported by known leakers Insider-Gaming, Ubisoft has penned a release window for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake in mid-January of 2026.

Interestingly, we have yet to see anything from the game ever since its initial (now redundant) trailer – with the The Sands of Time Remake’s re-reveal offering little more than a cinematic logo unveiling alongside the vague release year of 2026.

That said, the publisher did recently comment on the project, stating back in June that “we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose. This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they're pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.”

Additionally, Ubisoft revealed during their Fiscal Earnings report back in May that The Sands of Time Remake is planned to arrive during the Fiscal Year 2025-26 (April 2025 – March 2026), lending further credence to this newly-reported release window.

Given the overwhelming reaction to their first attempt at a Sands of Time remake, it will be interesting to see how this rebooted project winds up looking like. Hopefully we will get our first proper taste of the title during the upcoming 2025 Game Awards.
