Hytale will launch into early access in January

28 novembre 2025 à 18:10

Less than two weeks on from the announcement that Hytale has been saved from cancellation, the now restored development team has revealed their plans for the early access launch.

Hytale will now release into early access on Steam on January 13th 2026. Recently, the developers have also revealed their plans for modding, noting that while it will be supported from launch, its tech isn't quite there yet so some issues and limitations are expected in the early days.

In the early access announcement, the Hytale team also warns that the game is still “very much unfinished and will be buggy for a while”. If you do really want to support the project in its early stages though, then pre-orders will begin in mid-December.

Hytale was a very different game under Riot, so all of that has been scrapped since going independent. The restored creative team is picking up a much older version of Hytale with plans to rebuild to its own vision. There is no word on how long that will take but we can hope for regular updates along the way.

KitGuru Says: After many years of waiting, fans will at the very least have a chance to play the game now. This is a move that's been a long time coming.

Battlefield 6 devs give anti-cheat update

28 novembre 2025 à 17:50

EA has revealed some new stats gathered over the month since Battlefield 6 launched. So far, the new Javelin anti-cheat system has been highly effective.

So far, the anti-cheat team says it's had multiple detections for 190 cheat related programs, as well as various hardware and vendors. This has caused some of the providers to shut down their cheats. For the ones that remain up, their users are receiving detection notices and, in some cases, the cheats are not functioning as intended.

Insider Gaming notes that there have been as many as 2.4 million blocked cheating attempts.

Of course, cheats are always a cat and mouse game but so far the Javelin system has had a high success rate in blocking attempts. Different cheats will eventually pop up and the developers will have to react but so far, the track record is good, The developers continue to keep updating it too, with new features and tools to effectively ban cheaters.

KitGuru Says: Have you had any issues with cheaters in Battlefield 6? I played a lot around launch and didn't have any issues, but quite some time has passed since then.

The Witcher 4 will be a no-show at The Game Awards

28 novembre 2025 à 17:47

We had a surprise look at gameplay from The Witcher 4 earlier this year, but CD Projekt Red is warning fans ahead of The Game Awards this year that the game will not be making a second appearance.

The Witcher 4 had its cinematic reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2024 and then, our first look at gameplay was shown months later at an Unreal Engine 5-focused event hosted by Epic Games. However, we won't be seeing The Witcher 4 again this year, as confirmed by CDPR's co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski.

Nowakowski shared the following message on social media after seeing fans speculating about a potential new reveal at The Game Awards in early December: “I'm very happy to see The Witcher 4 nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. Thanks to everyone who has already voted – your support means a lot to us. We won't be bringing any new content to TGA this year, but we're, as always, excited to watch the show”.

While we did see more of The Witcher 4 at this stage than we expected, other CD Projekt Red executives have previously warned that the game is not close to release. At this point, the game is not expected to release until around 2028.

KitGuru Says: It would have been cool to see more Witcher to cap off the year but with the game still in the middle of production, I feel that it would be best for CDPR to let the game cook for a while longer before showing it again. Fans will quickly get impatient if we keep seeing chunks of the game each year. The next reveal should only take place when the game is much closer to coming out.

ASUS Black Friday deals are live, including £85 off a 9070 XT

28 novembre 2025 à 17:20

It is officially Black Friday and for the next few days, Asus is offering significant discounts across a range of products – including up to £85 off an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card, making now a good time for anyone shopping for an upgrade.

ASUS is offering multiple price cuts across its line-ups, with some of the biggest discounts coming to AMD Radeon graphic cards.

Leading the charge is the PRIME Radeon RX 9070 XT (16GB), which drops from £660 to £575, a reduction of £85. The standard PRIME RX 9070 16GB sees £100 off, while the TUF variant comes down by £50.

Pro-style gaming peripherals are attractive but often carry premium price tags. If you're in the market for a mouse, keyboard, headset etc – then it might be worth checking ASUS' reductions across several ROG peripherals.

The ROG Azoth NX Red keyboard sees one of the larger cuts, moving from £269.99 to £184.99 (£85 off). The ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless – NX Snow is discounted by £60, and the ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab Edition (White) comes down by £45. Additional savings appear on the ROG Raikiri Pro (£40 off), ROG Keris II Ace (£35 off) and ROG Gladius III Wireless Aimpoint (£35 off).

Most experienced users will agree that OLED monitors offer a step-up on quality from previous generations of display technology. ASUS has also applied sizeable reductions across its OLED models – a category that normally sees fairly stable pricing across the year.

The PG32UCDMR drops from £1,249 to £799, which is a substantial £450 reduction. Other 32-inch and 27-inch ROG Strix and ROG Swift models see cuts ranging from £150 to £225, including the XG32UCWMG (£225 off), PG32UCDMZ (£200 off), XG32UCDS (£190 off) and PG27AQDP (£150 off).

A smaller, but still useful set of reductions, has been applied to ASUS networking hardware with the ROG Rapture GT-BE19000 (WiFi-7) router down by £57. The BD4 2-pack mesh kit drops £45, while the RT-BE86U, TUF-BE3600 and TUF-BE6500 see reductions between £10 and £28.

You can check out all of the ASUS Black Friday Deals on their special discounts page until 1st December.

KitGuru Says: With several component categories trending upward in Q4, these temporary reductions may suit anyone planning an upgrade or new system. Whether you’re looking at networking gear, gaming peripherals, OLED displays or a new GPU, it’s worth checking these ASUS deals while the pricing remains in place.

Destiny director admits Edge of Fate expansion missed the mark

28 novembre 2025 à 15:50

It is no secret that Destiny 2 has been having a bad year. The Edge of Fate expansion didn't land well with long-time players and did very little to bring new players on board. Now, Destiny 2's director has admitted that the expansion failed to deliver.

In a recent interview with IGN, current Destiny 2 director, Tyson Green, admitted that The Edge of Fate failed to meet expectations, both internally and amongst players. Interestingly, he also addressed how the business side of Bungie had different expectations for the game after The Final Shape.

“The Final Shape brought things to a crescendo, where it’s like a fantastic ending that tied off a lot of the threads”, Green said, before acknowledging that a “big” drop in population came immediately after, as players left after being satisfied with the ‘end' of the story in that expansion. However, he then adds that this “wasn't the plan from the business perspective”. Bungie still “want to keep making Destiny” and still has “many stories to tell in this universe”.

Those stories began with The Edge of Fate, kicking off a new ‘saga' for Destiny focused around The Nine, ethereal, godlike beings in the Destiny universe who essentially pull the strings of time and reality. Unfortunately the transition to this new era of Destiny “was not gracefully managed”.

“I think we’ve been taught a bunch of hard lessons about what our players want, and there are really two kinds of live games – those that listen to the players and respond, and those that don’t. And we don’t want to be a dead live game, we want to keep building Destiny.”

We will start to see Bungie adapting to the player base next week with the launch of the game's next major expansion, Renegades. Initially, players may be put off by the idea of Star Wars in Destiny, but based on what we've seen so far, Bungie's writers have interwoven the two series quite well, using the powers of The Nine as the conduit for this mash-up campaign that will see Guardians donning lightsabers and attempting to stop a superweapon.

KitGuru Says: Destiny 2: Renegades launches on December 2nd but don't expect all the most important changes to come all at once. Bungie has shown in the past that it can be painfully slow to implement certain features. For instance, an in-game Group Finder was announced prior to Lightfall in 2022, but didn't end up in the game until early 2024, just ahead of The Final Shape expansion.

Remedy appears to be gearing up to reveal Control 2

28 novembre 2025 à 15:00

Remedy has been making steady progress on the sequel to its 2019 hit action game, Control. We still don't have a release date or an official title for the sequel yet, but a new leak suggests that a reveal will be happening very soon.

MP1st has spotted a new trademark filed for something called “Control Resonant”. The trademark is linked to Remedy despite their name not appearing on the filing, as the legal firm used is the same one used by Remedy for all of its previous trademark filings.

Remedy has been working on the sequel to Control for a few years already and is now considered to be in ‘full production'. The trademark filing suggests that a reveal for the game will be happening very soon. Considering that The Game Awards take place in early December, it is likely that the announcement happens there.

While the Control sequel may be announced at The Game Awards, we aren't expecting a 2026 release date/ After all, Alan Wake 2 only came out two years ago and the Control sequel has only been in ‘full production' since earlier this year. We would anticipate a 2027-2028 launch window for this one.

KitGuru Says: As much as I would love to see Control 2 coming out next year, I don't see it happening. Still, it will be exciting to get a teaser for what to expect.

Splash Damage to undergo more layoffs following split from Tencent

27 novembre 2025 à 18:00

Splash Damage has had a rough time in recent years. The company had joined Tencent as part of the Chinese conglomerate's push into the western videogame market. After Splash Damage's promising Transformers game was cancelled earlier this year, the company took steps to split off from Tencent but unfortunately, the company's financials are still in rough shape, so further redundancies are expected.

Splash Damage is a UK-based games studio, best known for games like Brink, Dirty Bomb, Gears Tactics and more. After the cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate back in January, the company moved to split off from Tencent with the help of unnamed private equity firms. Unfortunately, with new major cash injection on the horizon from a new game release, Splash Damage is now being forced to undertake more cost-cutting measures.

As noted by Eurogamer, the last game that Splash Damage successfully shipped was Outcasters, which was an exclusive to the now defunct Google Stadia cloud gaming platform. Staff were informed of company-wide layoffs at the studio earlier this week and now, Splash Damage has released its public statement, saying:

“This was a difficult step for us to take, but we believe it is necessary so Splash Damage can remain agile and adaptable in what has been a very challenging market”.

While there will be redundancies, the company says it is “exploring every option to retain talent and making sure those affected have meaningful support throughout”.

KitGuru Says: It is a real shame that Transformers: Reactivate got cancelled. The game looked promising and likely would have been shipping in the next year or so after extensive development.

Acer slashes prices across desktop PCs and gaming monitors for Black Friday

27 novembre 2025 à 16:30

Acer has rolled out more Black Friday deals ahead of tomorrow's big day, slashing prices by up to £200. The new deals focus on gaming monitors, as well as fully built desktop PCs.

The Nitro N20 desktop, equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor and 16GB of RAM, is now available at AO for £799.99, reduced from £999.99. This system brings RTX 5060 graphics into a more accessible price bracket, offering ray-traced gaming and accelerated performance for creative workloads. Amazon is listing an enhanced version of the Nitro N20 with a larger 1TB SSD at £849.99, down from £1,049.99.

Currys is offering the Acer Aspire XC101 at £449.99, down from £549.99. This compact desktop tower is designed for essential home-office and family tasks, with an Intel Core i5 processor and 512GB SSD. You will only have integrated graphics to rely on here, so it isn't a ‘gaming class' machine, but it should be good for everyday essentials like browsing, typing up homework and storing photos. The Aspire C24 is another good option for these kind of tasks, packing a Core i5 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD into a sleek all-in-one system for £499.

Monitor deals include the Nitro XF240YM3biiph, a 24-inch Full HD display with a 180Hz refresh rate, available at AO for £74, reduced from £129.99. Its compact size and lightweight design make it a budget-friendly choice for smooth gaming or as a secondary display.

Argos is selling the Nitro KG241Y X1bmiipx, a 23.8-inch esports-focused monitor with a 200Hz refresh rate, for £69.99, down from £119.99. Targeted at competitive players, it delivers fast response times and fluid motion ideal for titles such as Fortnite, Valorant and Rocket League.

Finally, AO has discounted the Nitro XF270M3biiph, a 27-inch Full HD monitor, to £94.99 from £159.99. This one is for those who want a larger display, but don't have the horsepower to drive games at 180Hz in QHD or 4K resolutions.

Paradox takes the blame for disappointing Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

27 novembre 2025 à 15:30

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 didn't exactly land well with fans of the original game. Now, publisher Paradox Interactive is taking responsibility after reporting weak sales numbers.

As part of its latest quarterly earnings report, Paradox CEO, Fredrik Wester, addressed the situation with Bloodlines 2, saying that while they had “high expectations” for the game, ultimately the sales didn't match the company's projections. Wester says they are “pleased with the developers' work on the game” and that “the responsibility fully lies with us”.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was first announced in 2019 and was supposed to release in 2020. However, the game had an extremely troubled development cycle, which led to the original studio in charge of it being booted of the project. The Chinese Room took over development in the end and did the best they could with a bad hand, but even they felt that the game they were making wasn't truly ‘Bloodlines 2‘.

While the game has been disappointing both commercially and critically, IGN notes that Paradox remains committed to the two expansions announced and sold as part of the game's Premium Edition. If a Bloodlines 3 ever happens, it is likely to be given to another developer with more RPG expertise under a licensing agreement, rather than developed in-house.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Paradox is primarily known for its strategy games nowadays, so Bloodlines 2 landing with them always felt like an odd choice. Hopefully future updates and expansions can improve the game a bit, but fans hoping for a true follow-up to the cult classic Bloodlines RPG will have to wait and hope that someone else steps up for a third game.

Microsoft may finally be working on COD for Switch 2

27 novembre 2025 à 17:57

In the lead up to Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the company had to fight for regulatory approvals, forcing the company to hand out 10-year agreements to the likes of Nintendo and Sony, promising that Call of Duty would be available on their respective platforms for at least ten years. So far, Call of Duty has not returned to Nintendo consoles, but new job listings hint that progress is now being made.

As spotted by Insider Gaming, a new job listing for a Senior Technical Artist at Sledgehammer Games specifically calls for developers with “AAA mobile or Switch experience”, indicating that Microsoft is finally working on bringing future COD games to the Switch 2 console.

This is a big step for Call of Duty, as the series has had little presence on Nintendo platforms. In fact, the last COD title to release on a Nintendo console was Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Wii U, and that was all the way back in 2013.

Currently, Sledgehammer is believed to be in charge of developing COD 2027, with Infinity Ward taking the reins in 2026, presumably with a new Modern Warfare game. It is unclear if COD 2026 will skip the Switch 2 like Black Ops 7 has, but at the very least, we know that COD 2027 should be on Nintendo's console.

KitGuru Says: Do you think Call of Duty will be successful on Switch 2? If they want a shot at getting the masses to download it, they may need to do something about the file size, as the Switch 2 only has 256GB of internal storage, and some past COD titles have demanded around 200GB of storage on platforms like PC.

World of Warcraft: Midnight is launching a little later than expected

27 novembre 2025 à 17:30

In recent weeks, a number of leaks have claimed that the next expansion for World of Warcraft, Midnight, will release in late February 2026. Now with the recent beta test concluded, Blizzard has announced the date officially – and it will be a week later than originally anticipated.

World of Warcraft: Midnight is officially launching on March 2nd 2026, a week later than earlier leaks had claimed. The new expansion will introduce four more levelling zones for players to explore, alongside eight dungeons, three new raids and for the very first time in WoW history, player housing.

World of Warcraft: Midnight is the second chapter of the Worldsoul Saga, taking players back to Quel’Thalas and Silvermoon City to defend the Sunwell against Xal’atath and her Devouring Host. This expansion will also introduce a new Alliance-bound race to the game, the Haranir. Demon Hunters will also get a new specialisation to spec in to.

If Blizzard keeps up its current release cadence, then the third and final part to the Worldsoul Saga, titled The Last Titan, should release around late 2027 / early 2028.

Nintendo has made a rare studio acquisition

27 novembre 2025 à 17:00

Nintendo rarely makes acquisitions and when it does, it tends to pick up smaller studios that have previously worked on its own franchises. The case is no different here, with Nintendo announcing that it is acquiring Bandai Namco Studios Singapore.

No, Nintendo isn't acquiring all of Bandai Namco, but it is buying the company's Singapore-based studio. Previously, Nintendo has contracted this studio for work on games like Splatoon 3, Pokémon Snap (2021) and they even worked on early versions of Metroid Prime 4 before development moved over to Nintendo's own Retro Studios.

The acquisition will take place in two phases, with Nintendo buying 80% of shares in April 2026, followed by the remaining 20% some months later. The studio will also be renamed as Nintendo Studios Singapore.

In recent years, Nintendo has made a handful of acquisitions, although not nearly as many as the likes of Microsoft and Sony. Since 2020, the company has bought Next Level Games, who worked on Luigi's Mansion 3, as well as another long-time partner studio, SRD. It also now wholly owns Monolith Soft, the company behind the Xenoblade RPGs, and it picked up Dynamo Pictures, rebranded as Nintendo Pictures, although that company is more focused on Nintendo's movie ambitions rather than games.

KitGuru Says: Nintendo has had a close working relationship with Bandai Namco over the course of the Switch generation. That no doubt played a role in getting this acquisition over the line.

Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 dev teams continue to grow

27 novembre 2025 à 16:00

CD Projekt Red has been steadily growing out its teams in recent years as it expands into a true multi-project studio. Over the past few months, the company has hired around 50 more developers, growing out the teams for both Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4.

CD Projekt Red's Q3 earnings report is now live and as usual, the company included a graphic detailing how many developers it has assigned to each of its upcoming games. At this point, there are over 850 developers working across CDPR's studios. More than half of them are working on The Witcher 4, which is the game ‘closest' to release, although it is still unlikely to release before 2028.

The Cyberpunk 2 team has also grown in recent months, with 135 developers now working on the game. Cyberpunk 2 has not yet entered full production, but the team has been scaling up, indicating that good progress is being made on laying the groundwork for the sequel. If all goes well, Cyberpunk 2 should be in the full swing of production by the time The Witcher 4 comes out, which should hopefully reduce wait times between projects.

Project Sirius and Project Hadar are two smaller-scale games being worked on. One of them is a remake of The Witcher 1, allowing the game to be released on consoles for the first time ever. However, we do not know what the other game is.

KitGuru Says: CD Projekt Red appears to be managing its new multi-project approach well. Assuming everything remains on track, we could potentially see both The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 within a few years of each other. This would be a huge improvement, as we had to wait more than five years between the releases of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 – if you were one of the people that waited for Cyberpunk to be ‘fixed' before playing, then you would have waited over seven years between releases.

All PlayStation Plus subscribers will get five free games next month

26 novembre 2025 à 18:00

The next round of free to claim games for PlayStation Plus has been announced. Just in time for the one-year anniversary of Horizon spin-off, Lego Horizon Adventures, the game will be free to claim for all PlayStation Plus subscribers, alongside three other titles.

Lego Horizon Adventures was a well-received spin-off of Guerrilla Games' flagship Horizon series. It is a reimagining of Horizon Zero Dawn, giving a lighter take on the events of the first game, remixed for a younger audience, as is common for the Lego videogames.

The next two games on the list would have fit right at home in the October line-up but better late than never. Killing Floor 3 is the third game in Tripwire's co-op zombie shooter series, with a tighter focus on tactical combat and with even more dangerous Zeds to contend with. Alongside this, The Outlast Trials is also going to be free to claim, offering players a chance to team up in co-op to escape a cold war-era mind control experiment.

The final two titles being given away in December are Synduality Echo of Ada and Neon White. The former is a PvPvE mech shooter, while the latter is an anime-inspired speedrunning FPS that tasks players with racing through the heavens to earn redemption.

All five titles will be available to claim for all PlayStation Plus subscribers starting on the 2nd of December.

Black Forest Labs unveils FLUX.2 image generation models with NVIDIA optimisations

26 novembre 2025 à 15:00

Black Forest Labs has announced the release of FLUX.2, its latest family of visual generative AI models designed to push the boundaries of image fidelity. Developed in collaboration with NVIDIA and ComfyUI, the models launch with FP8 quantisation and RTX GPU performance optimisations, reducing VRAM requirements by up to 40 percent.

FLUX.2 is built for photorealism, producing images at resolutions up to 4 megapixels with realistic lighting and physics to avoid the artificial “AI look”. The models introduce direct pose control, allowing users to specify subject positioning, and generate clean, legible text across infographics, user interfaces, and multilingual content.

Despite their capabilities, the models are resource-intensive, requiring up to 90GB VRAM to fully load. To make them more accessible, NVIDIA and Black Forest Labs have streamlined performance for GeForce RTX GPUs. Improvements to ComfyUI’s weight streaming feature further enhance usability, enabling broader adoption among PC users.

FLUX.2 is available now through ComfyUI templates and on Black Forest Labs’ Hugging Face page. For more information on the Nvidia-specific optimisations and what sort of results you can expect from this, Nvidia has released a dedicated AI Garage blog post covering Flux.2 extensively.

KitGuru Says: GenAI is advancing very quickly. When you look at the amount of money being pumped into AI companies right now, it is easy to see why.

AIO liquid cooler pioneer Asetek receives buyout offer

26 novembre 2025 à 16:51

Asetek, the company best known for pioneering the All-In-One liquid cooler for PCs, may soon have new ownership. The company has issued an update to shareholders that it has received a buyout offer, and the board of directors intends to recommend the sale.

Asetek has received a public takeover offer from CQXA Holdings, a subsidiary of Suzhou Chunqiu Electronics Technology Co, which is known for specialising in precision components and structural modules for consumer electronics. The offer is for 1.72 Danish Krone per share. This represents a 110% premium compared to the company's closing share price of 0.82 DKK prior to the announcement being made.

As you may expect, the announcement of this buyout offer sent Asetek shares skyrocketing. Currently, the company share price sits at 1.6 DKK, as investors look to benefit from the agreed buyout price of 1.72 DKK per share. The total value if the buyout should be just over 574 million DKK, or around £67.3 million converted to GBP.

In its press release on the matter, Asetek confirms it has agreed to the offer and “intends to recommend that Asetek shareholders accept the offer” when it comes time to vote. Every indication so far points towards the deal going through, pending approvals from financial authorities.

The press release states that CQXA is interested in Asetek for its industry-leading liquid cooling solutions and expertise in high performance computing, as well as its SimSports initiatives. It is claimed that after the buyout, the new owners intend to “maintain Asetek as a distinct business unit to preserve its brand and operational independence”.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Asetek may not be well known by every reader, but chances are if you have owned an AIO liquid cooler, there has been some Asetek technology inside. Asetek owned the patent for pumps integrated directly into the CPU block, the core feature behind many AIO coolers, although that patent had finally expired earlier this year, creating a questionable situation for Asetek's OEM status moving forward.

Rumour claims Dan Houser left Rockstar due to ‘disagreement’ over company direction

26 novembre 2025 à 16:20

It has been more than five years since Rockstar co-founder, Dan Houser, left the company for good, leaving Red Dead Redemption 2 as his final game at the company. We've never known exactly why he left, but one insider now claims that it was due to a disagreement with his brother, fellow Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser.

As spotted by Screen Rant, Tez2, someone well known in the Rockstar fan community, recently chimed in on a discussion on the GTA Forums. Fans were discussing the recent ‘union busting' allegations at the company. It didn't take long for some commenters to put forward the idea that union busting and working conditions were the reasons for Dan Houser stepping down and leaving the company.

According to Tez2, this speculation is not quite accurate. After speaking to two “former Rockstar devs”, he claims that Dan Houser had actually left the company back in 2020 due to “disagreements with his brother Sam over the direction the company would take”.

Neither of the brothers have ever spoken about the circumstances of Dan's departure publicly. However, in recent interviews, Dan has made it clear that he primarily enjoyed working on the story-side of Rockstar's games, even labelling Red Dead Redemption 2 as his best work. However, due to the massive success of GTA Online, Rockstar abandoned the idea of story-focused DLCs and expansions in favour of consistent online multiplayer mode updates. This is why despite some initial teasers, we never saw any story DLC for Grand Theft Auto V.

The jury is still out on how good Rockstar's single-player experience will be without Dan guiding and directing the cinematic elements of the games. From what we've seen of GTA 6 so far though, it will be another blockbuster crime story with industry-leading graphics.

KitGuru Says: Rumours can just as easily form and spread in a corporate environment as they do online. There will have been a very small circle involved in any leadership discussions between the Houser brothers. With that in mind, I would take any rumour like this with a pinch of salt. The source being “two former Rockstar devs” sounds good on paper, but unless they were also involved in executive level meetings, or had personal friendships with Dan or Sam, I don't see how this can be anything more than internal speculation.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 gets surprising update via Ubisoft job listing

26 novembre 2025 à 15:45

We are approaching a decade since Ubisoft re-revealed Beyond Good and Evil 2. Unfortunately, since then there have been absolutely no official updates and in 2025, the game appears to be no closer to release. Fans may have some room for optimism, however, as new job listings show that development is continuing.

Ubisoft Montpellier is now hiring for a technical sound designer, with the job description specifying that the role is for the Beyond Good and Evil 2 project. Better yet, the job listing actually gives us a bit of a description on what the game will actually be:

“Beyond Good & Evil 2 is an action-adventure open world game set in a captivating space opera universe and the direct prequel to the 2003 cult classic. Based on a breakthrough technology driven by the proprietary Voyager engine, Beyond Good & Evil 2 aims to offer a seamless experience of exploration and space piracy across a solar system full of exotic locations, colorful characters and mysteries to uncover, solo or with friends. So, if you are ready for an adventure like no other, come join forces with us to build System 3!”

The person who lands the sound designer role will be responsible for creating audio assets and integrating audio designs into the game using a mix of middleware and the game's proprietary engine. It is entirely possible that this proprietary engine is part of the reason that the project has taken so long. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Halo Infinite also ran into many delays due to the need to develop engine technology alongside the games themselves.

Ubisoft has not provided an official update on Beyond Good and Evil 2 for years and the last time we saw the game was way back in 2017. Fortunately, it does sound like the creative team now has a concrete idea in place and is moving towards production, which means the final game could be just a few more years away. Typically, a technical sound designer would join a project during the production phase, so the wheels are definitely turning after years of apparent stagnation.

KitGuru Says: Beyond Good and Evil first released way back in 2003 and fans have been asking for a sequel ever since. It is still unclear when the game will resurface, but this latest update is promising.

Embracer Group recoups $30 million by divesting in two more studios

26 novembre 2025 à 15:00

After a lengthy acquisition spree, Embracer Group has been forced to sell off numerous studios and publishers under its wing in a multi-year restructuring effort to fix its financials. This week, Embracer announced plans to divest in two more of its companies, who will now be going independent.

Embracer is now divesting in Arc Games and Cryptic Studios, selling the pair off to Project Golden Arc for $30 million. The two companies will now be owned by Project Golden Arc, a new independent company owned and led by the Arc Games management team.

These two studios both had a storied history. Arc Games was previously known as Perfect World Entertainment and was eventually part of the Gearbox publishing group. However, Arc Games split off from Gearbox when Embracer Group sold the main studio to Take-Two allowing the company to be reunited with the publisher behind their flagship Borderlands games. On the other side, Cryptic Studios was the developer of MMOs like Star Trek Online and Neverwinter.

In a statement, Embracer Group CEO, Phil Rogers, said that this move will support the company's “key priorities by strengthening focus on strategic assets and core IPs”.

These are just two of the latest divestments at Embracer Group. As pointed out by Eurogamer, the company has closed 44 studios and cancelled upwards of 80 projects over the past couple of years, while others have been sold off. In an effort to reduce costs, Embracer Group has also partnered with third-party publishers like Amazon Games to help fund AAA projects like the next Tomb Raider game.

Death Stranding 2 is officially coming to PC

26 novembre 2025 à 14:18

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has been out for just under six months now. During that time, the game has remained an exclusive for PS5 consoles but that should change very soon, as evidence of a PC version has now appeared.

Death Stranding also initially started out as a PlayStation exclusive, but after around 8 months of exclusivity, the game arrived on PC. It seems we are looking at a similar timeline for Death Stranding 2.

Death Stranding 2 Month

The ESRB ratings board has officially listed Death Stranding 2 for PC, awarding it a M for Mature rating due to gore, partial nudity, strong language and violence. Typically, these ratings board listings arrive just weeks before an official announcement. With that in mind, it is entirely likely that the PC version of Death Stranding 2 will be announced at The Game Awards in early December. Death Stranding 2 is already up for several awards at the show, and we all know Geoff Keighley would never turn down an opportunity to give Kojima some promotional time.

While Death Stranding is a fully multiplatform game at this stage, being available across PlayStation, PC, Xbox and even Apple devices like the iPhone, it is unclear if Death Stranding 2 will also come to all of these same platforms. At the very least though, the game should land on PC in the first half of 2026.

Bungie has reportedly caved and begun work on Destiny 3

26 novembre 2025 à 14:00

Destiny 2 has been in a tough spot throughout 2025. The most recent expansion, The Edge of Fate, failed to impress long-time players and didn't do much to bring new players on board. It is clear that Bungie's initial post-Final Shape plans aren't panning out, so now, we may finally get a proper reset with a Destiny 3.

According to Colony Deaks, a known Destiny-focused leaker, Destiny 3 has entered the early stages of development. If true, this is a notable shift in Bungie's plans, as the studio had previously hoped to kick off a new major story arc for Destiny 2 and keep the game running indefinitely, in a similar fashion to World of Warcraft.

Despite fundamental changes to the game, like a new loot tier system, a Portal for quick access to activities and improved cinematic storytelling, Destiny 2 has been losing players for months. New players aren't jumping on board because they missed Destiny's biggest moments, with the main 10-year story arc wrapping up in The Final Shape. Current players are leaving due to mixed opinions around the Portal and the overall direction of the game.

At this point, the best thing for Bungie to do would be to hit the reset button. A Destiny 3 would wipe the slate clean, giving Bungie a better opportunity to onboard new players. However, if Destiny 3 really does exist, it will likely be many years before we see it officially. In the meantime, Bungie will need to address the situation of veteran players leaving and streamers quitting the game, as they will need those people to spread positive word of mouth to get players to buy in to the idea of a sequel.

It isn't all doom and gloom. This week, Bungie also revealed more about its Destiny x Star Wars crossover expansion, Renegades, and so far, first impressions are looking positive.

KitGuru Says: I'm really enjoying the current Destiny story direction. We've moved on from vague light vs dark themes and into a cool period of exploring The Nine, ethereal beings that essentially hold control over the universe. Unfortunately, once the story missions are over, all we are left with is endless loops of the same repeatable missions, which is why I think dropping seasonal storytelling from development plans was such a miss.
