The United States has granted Hungary a one-year exemption from US sanctions for using Russian oil and gas, a White House official said on Friday, after Viktor Orbán pressed his case for a reprieve during a friendly meeting with Donald Trump in Washington.

Last month, Trump imposed Ukraine-related sanctions on Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft that carried the threat of further sanctions on entities in countries that buy oil from those firms.

Starbucks Workers United voted to authorize open-ended strike if deal with company is not reached by 13 November

Unionized Starbucks baristas voted to authorize an open-ended strike ahead of Starbucks’s high-traffic holiday season, announced Starbucks Workers United on Wednesday.

The union said workers are prepared to strike if a contract is not finalized by 13 November, which is the company’s Red Cup Day, and strike actions could hit more than 25 cities and escalate if there is a lack of progress.

Jamaican prime minister Andrew Holness has said last week’s Hurricane Melissa, the strongest-ever storm to hit the country’s shores, caused damage to homes and key infrastructure equivalent to roughly 28% to 32% of last year’s gross domestic product.

Holness told the Caribbean nation’s lower house the $6bn to $7bn estimate was conservative, based on damages assessed so far, and short-term economic output could decline by 8% to 13%.

PARIS (Reuters) - Le parquet de Paris a annoncé mardi l'ouverture d'une enquête préliminaire sur Tiktok après le signalement d'une commission d'enquête parlementaire sur les effets psychologiques sur la jeunesse de l'application chinoise. Le député Arthur Delaporte avait effectué en septembre un signalement au parquet sur le fondement de l'article 40 en pointant notamment "une modération insuffisante de Tiktok, sa facilité d'accès par des mineurs, son algorithme élaboré susceptible de pousser les personnes vulnérables vers le suicide en les enfermant très rapidement dans une boucle de contenu dédié".
