At least 15 people have been killed after Lisbon’s Gloria funicular railway car derailed and crashed, an emergency medical service spokesman has said.
Authorities would not identify the victims or disclose their nationalities, but said some foreign nationals were among the dead. At least 18 people were also injured.

Imane Khelif has the right to appeal against World Boxing’s decision barring her from events unless she undergoes genetic sex testing but the Algerian has not entered the world championships in Liverpool, the World Boxing president, Boris van der Vorst, has said.
World Boxing, which will oversee the tournaments at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, introduced mandatory sex testing for all boxers in its competitions in May, less than a year after Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting won gold in Paris amid a gender-eligibility row.

The Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah called out a popular fan account on Wednesday for “disrespecting” former teammates Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez after a social media post mocked their departures from the club.
Salah took exception to a post on X featuring images of the departed duo in black-and-white over new signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak with the caption: “Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”

A federal court in Argentina has ordered house arrest for the daughter of a former Nazi official and her husband after a raid failed to locate a painting stolen from a Jewish art dealer in Amsterdam.
Authorities raided a home in the coastal city of Mar del Plata last week after a Dutch newspaper identified a painting seen in a real estate photo as an Italian masterpiece registered on a database of lost wartime art.

Guatemala is ready and willing to receive about 150 unaccompanied children of all ages each week from the United States, the country’s president has said, a day after a US federal judge halted the deportation of 10 Guatemalan children.
Those children had already boarded a plane when a court responded to an emergency appeal on Sunday. They were later returned to the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

A suspect has been arrested over the murder of the former Ukrainian parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said.
“The suspect has given an initial testimony,” Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s president, said on the Telegram messaging app. “Urgent investigative actions are currently under way to establish all the circumstances of this murder.”

The twice Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard won stage nine of the Vuelta a España with a solo attack on the climactic climb to Valdezcaray on Sunday, shaving nearly two minutes off the gap to the overall leader Torstein Træen, who is ahead by 37 seconds.
Visma-Lease a Bike’s Vingegaard dominated the 13.2km category one climb at the end of the 195.5km ride from Alfaro to the Valdezcaray ski resort and although Tom Pidcock and João Almeida tried to chase, they finished 24sec off the pace.
