Doctor Who Star Paul McGann Addresses AI Images That Showed Him on Set With Billie Piper

15 décembre 2025 à 12:50

Former Doctor Who star Paul McGann has addressed the recent spread of AI-generated images showing his apparent return alongside Billie Piper in the franchise's upcoming 2026 Christmas special.

McGann's briefly-seen incarnation of the Doctor is beloved by hardcore fans, and has made a couple of cameo appearances in recent years. So, when supposedly-leaked images surfaced surfaced online last month showing McGann stood alongside Billie Piper on the TARDIS set, many rejoiced at the actor's latest apparent return.

Alas, what looked to be photos taken on the set for next year's Christmas special were nothing but very believable AI — something McGann has now acknowledged has confused numerous fans, and sparked a fake rumor mill.

"Just recently, in the past week or so, because of these AI pictures, there's me and Billie Piper working together," McGann said, speaking on the Gerry Anderson Podcast. "If only! And so people are like 'it has to be true!' The rumor mill kicks in. There's this picture of Billie and me, I'm in costume."

Of the various AI images created, several showed Paul McGann on the current TARDIS set from the most recent Doctor Who era, holding a script during what looks to be a break between shooting. In one image, McGann can be seen standing alongside Piper, who returned at the end of Doctor Who's most recent finale in a shock twist after the sudden departure of lead actor Ncuti Gatwa. Here, Piper can be seen wearing Ncuti's costume, just as we last saw her.

As AI fakes go, the images are clearly made by someone who knows the series and understands what fans will be looking for to determine whether the pictures are legitimate. Unfortunately for fans attempting to do just that, generative AI is now increasingly difficult to spot — to the extent that a recent fan-made Shenmue 4 trailer tricked many fans and sparked a furious legal threat from the franchise's publisher.

As for next year's Doctor Who special, current showrunner Russell T Davies has now told the Radio Times that he was still to write the script, let alone have it ready to go before cameras.

Despite all that, the sheer existence of the AI images is seemingly enough for fans who just want to believe. When asked whether the pictures were real after all, and whether he was just lying to keep the production a secret, McGann replied: "What do you mean it could be true? You see you're making it worse. You're part of the problem."

Doctor Who is set to return in December 2026 for a one-off episode that's expected to wrap up the series' Billie Piper cliffhanger, though little else about the show's future seems set in stone. Recent months have brought the belated confirmation that co-production partner Disney had walked away from the series, reportedly due to low ratings and its large budget.

Still, the recent confirmation by the BBC that it would self-fund a single Doctor Who special for next year has given the fans something to look forward to, while the corporation buys itself time to presumably find a more permanent co-funding deal elsewhere. Just don't expect Paul McGann to be in the episode, probably.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Director Rian Johnson Says He Was 'Hoping For' Fan Pushback, Rather Than Being 'Afraid of Doing Anything That Shakes It Up'

15 décembre 2025 à 11:54

Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, has said he anticipated and welcomed the movie's polarizing response — and argued it would have been worse to create something "afraid" of shaking up the franchise.

Speaking to Polygon, Johnson said Star Wars had a history of challenging fan expectations of where the saga's story was headed ever since the series' second release, Empire Strikes Back. With its shock character deaths and fresh uses of the Force, this is something The Last Jedi certainly also did, while generating a wave of backlash from many of the franchise's most vocal online followers.

Despite this, Johnson said he had intended to deliver a movie that "shook the box" and upended fan expectations, rather than simply serving up something that handled the franchise and its audience with "kid gloves" — something other entries in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy have also been accused of.

"I was hoping for that — I wasn't afraid of it per se," Johnson said. "Having grown up a Star Wars fan, I know that thing where something challenges it, and I know the recoil against that. I know how there can be infighting in the world of Star Wars. But I also know that the worst sin is to handle it with kid gloves.

"The worst sin is to be afraid of doing anything that shakes it up," he continued. "Because every Star Wars movie going back to Empire and onward shook the box and rattled fans, and got them angry, and got them fighting, and got them talking about it. And then for a lot of them, got them loving it and coming around on it eventually."

Johnson has said similar in the past with regard to how the tastes of many Star Wars fans have changed over time — with many now looking more fondly upon George Lucas' prequel movies, for example, which also received significant pushback upon their initial release. (Indeed, Johnson has previously said that his days "arguing on the playground about Star Wars" and having "ruthless" discussions about The Phantom Menance helped him process The Last Jedi's online backlash.)

Johnson continued his comments on The Last Jedi by equating its handling of Star Wars lore with how he has attempted to carefully handle the subject of religion in the upcoming Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

"People who are raised outside of faith sometimes think it's this touchy thing that you have to handle with kid gloves," he said. "I grew up very Christian. It was a very personal thing for me. I'm not a believer anymore. I'm no longer a Christian. But when I was… You're constantly rattling the box for yourself. You’re constantly being offended by things. But then it's not like that just shuts off [the real world and how it challenges your beliefs].

"It’s just like being a Star Wars fan and seeing a twist where you're like, ‘Oh God, that doesn't make me feel great, because that's not what I expected,’” he says. “As a Christian, the world is constantly throwing that at you. It’s just your daily life. Assimilating that is how you grow. That's part of the purpose of both [fandom and religion] — it’s only alive when it's interacting with the world."

With the upcoming launch of Johnson's third Knives Out murder mystery film, the writer and director has now left Star Wars behind, with no current plans for him to return and make that MIA new Star Wars movie trilogy that LucasFilm once announced.

Next year will see the launch of The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first new Star Wars movie since 2019's unpopular Rise of Skywalker. A continuation of the hit Disney+ TV series, it will see the fan-favorite duo make their theatrical debut in what has been seen by fans as a safer return to theaters for the franchise following a long seven-year hiatus. Following that, Ryan Gosling will star in the standalone Star Wars: Starfighter, due in 2027.

Guillermo del Toro Reveals Scrapped Justice League Dark Plans That Included a Batman Cameo

12 décembre 2025 à 17:32

Frankenstein director Guillermo del Toro has discussed his now-cancelled plans for the DC universe, which included two years of work on a Justice League Dark screenplay, and the suggestion he could have helmed Superman movie Man of Steel.

Speaking on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, del Toro was open with his ideas for Justice League Dark, which he worked on between 2013 and 2015. The director has spoken in the past about his plans to feature John Constantine, Swamp Thing, The Spectre and Deadman in the team-up movie, which at one point would have been part of the now-defunct DC Extended Universe.

Now, del Toro has revealed more about the project — which would have featured Constantine as its star, and seen his crew call on a certain Bruce Wayne for backup.

"[The lead] was Constantine, and the plot made absolute, perfect sense," del Toro said. "I really loved how they got tangled into the Floronic Man as one of the villains, Swamp Thing was really fleshed out."

"I was not casting yet," del Toro continued when asked who he'd wanted to play Constantine. At one point, the project had been planned to feature Constantine TV series star Matt Ryan reprising his role, though it was previously reported that this idea fell through when the show was not renewed for a second season.

"I knew I wanted Doug Jones to be Deadman," he continued, referencing the DC superhero capable of possessing other people's bodies, "only because I knew physically he could do the suit, I knew his mannerisms." Jones would of course go on to star in del Toro's The Shape of Water instead.

Discussing his favorite planned setpiece from the movie, del Toro said it would have featured a chase sequence where Deadman is seen "jumping from one body to the next. It would have been an 80-year-old lady in Central Park, running after the antagonist and then jumping into a traffic cop, or mounted cop... it would have been a thrilling thing."

How else might Justice League Dark have tied into the DCEU? Well, in a surprising admission, del Toro revealed he had planned for the film to also feature a Batman cameo.

"There was a moment where Batman came in briefly," del Toro revealed. "[The team] said, 'We need a plane,’ and [Deadman] said, 'I know a friend of mine has a plane.' And then you were in Bruce Wayne's office. You know I would have loved to have done that, but now I wouldn't, you know."

Still, perhaps the most startling moment of the whole interview comes as del Toro is asked about the long-standing suggestion he was once in the frame to direct Superman movie Man of Steel (a job that ultimately went to Zack Snyder). When the question is asked, del Toro pauses for a very long time, before ultimately breaking the moment's tension by simply saying: "Next."

This isn't the first time del Toro has been questioned about being offered the job. Back in 2010, in an interview with Deadline, del Toro was asked about a couple of Warner Bros. projects he was apparently offered, including a new Wizard of Oz movie and the job of resurrecting Superman.

"I came out of The Hobbit, and it was the biggest heartbreak I've experienced as a filmmaker, because I will never know what that movie would have been," del Toro answered back in 2010, referencing the period where he was once set to direct The Hobbit before The Lord of The Rings director Peter Jackson came on board instead. "I was very mindful that I didn't want to have a rebound movie, as happens sometimes when somebody comes off a long romance." He concluded: "There were very big, lucrative, beautiful projects on the table." What might have been...

‘Transition is irreversible’: María Corina Machado says not too late for Maduro’s peaceful handover

Nobel peace laureate says Maduro’s political downfall is inevitable after her fraught journey to freedom by boat

Nicolás Maduro’s political downfall is inevitable, the Nobel laureate María Corina Machado has claimed, rejecting claims that the dictator’s demise would plunge Venezuela into a Syria-style civil war.

Speaking to journalists in Oslo two days after being awarded the Nobel peace prize, Machado voiced confidence that her country was on the cusp of a new political era amid an intensifying US campaign to unseat Maduro.

Here's Our First Teaser For DC Studios' Lanterns, Showing Its Heroes Driving Off a Cliff

12 décembre 2025 à 15:05

Our first glimpse at footage from DC Studios series Lanterns has arrived, featuring Friday Night Lights' Kyle Chandler and Krypton's Aaron Pierre as members of the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps.

The clip, seemingly part of a longer showreel of upcoming series headed to HBO Max, offers our initial look at Chandler and Pierre's characters following an earlier photo tease back in February of this year.

Lanterns has been pitched as a buddy cop detective drama with similarities to Slow Horses and True Detective, all set within James Gunn's broader DC universe that was kickstarted this summer by blockbuster movie Superman and will continue next year with Supergirl.

First teaser for ‘LANTERNS’.

— DC Film News (@DCFilmNews) December 12, 2025

This series sees Green Lantern Corps veteran Hal Jordan (Chandler) paired with younger hero John Stewart (Pierre) in a "dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland." Today's trailer sees the two space cops squabbling in a car, before it gets driven off of a cliff. It's a dramatic moment, though it also seems like both of them will be fine.

According to DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, speaking this week during an interview with CBR, Lanterns is now set to launch in the "late summer" of 2026, having previously been expected early next year.

"It was about when it made sense for it to be released, so [HBO Max] could get the right lead in, the right promotion," Safran said. "Because it's an important show for everybody, and the show is going to be great. It was about the right timing, so it's going to be... it's late summer. But there's a reason for it."

Intriguingly, this pushes Lanterns' expected arrival window after the launch of Supergirl, which is set to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026. Yesterday brought a first trailer for that DCU project, too, showing Milly Alcock's hungover Kara Zor-El getting into trouble alongside her super canine sidekick Crypto.

As for how Lanterns will fit into the wider DCU, it has already been confirmed that the series will see the return of fellow Green Lantern Corps member Guy Gardner — once again played by Nathan Fillion, and introduce the villainous Sinestro, played by Ulrich Thomsen.

Harry Potter Headed to Fortnite, as Hogwarts Legacy Offered Free on the Epic Games Store

12 décembre 2025 à 14:13

The Wizard World of Harry Potter is headed to Fortnite, as Epic Games offers Hogwarts Legacy for free via its PC Store.

As announced last night at The Game Awards 2025, Hogwarts Legacy is now free to claim from the Epic Games Store until December 18, at 11am ET. Shortly following the announcement, users reported that the store was struggling to load — with many linking the troubles to a flood of wizard wannabes rushing to claim their copy.

Anyone with more than two hours of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay time on their account by December 18 will be granted a Chocolate Frog Back Bling in Fortnite, Epic Games has said. And that's not the only Harry Potter content coming to its battle royale game.

While Harry Potter himself appears to be sitting things out for now, Fortnite skins featuring characters in Hogwarts robes will be sold later this month. These outfits will be customizable so you can dress as a student in any of the Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or even Hufflepuff.

Harry Potter content coming to Fortnite is no surprise — fans tracking the game's files have previously ppointed to a collaboration coming in the near future, and expect broomsticks as Mythic items within the game's upcoming annual Winterfest celebrations.

Beyond this, Harry Potter is just the latest in the long line of Warner Bros. characters now arriving into the game following the shutdown of the publisher's own live-service attempt Multiversus.

Familiar faces from DC and Adventure Time have been in Fortnite for some time, but recent months have seen the addition of the Scooby-Doo gang, Beetlejuice and Jason Vorhees — all former Multiversus veterans. Will we see more next year, such as characters from Game of Thrones, Gremlins and Looney Tunes? Time will tell.

"In almost every way, Hogwarts Legacy is the Harry Potter RPG I’ve always wanted to play," IGN wrote in our Hogwarts Legacy review, awarding the game 9/10.

Resident Evil: Requiem Developers Reveal How Much We'll Play as Leon — And Say The Survival Horror/Action Contrast Is Like Jumping Into a Cold Bath After a Hot Sauna

12 décembre 2025 à 13:27

Following official confirmation that Leon S. Kennedy will co-star in Resident Evil: Requiem, the game's developers have confirmed how much we'll be playing as the floppy-hair favorite — and it's good news for his fans.

Speaking to Automaton, director Akifumi Nakanishi revealed that Requiem features nearly equal screentime between Leon and the previously-revealed Grace Ashcroft.

"In terms of gameplay, Grace and Leon's playable sections are almost equally split," Nakanishi said, likening the game's structure as similar to Resident Evil: Revelations, which featured both Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.

"It's almost like having two games with completely different types of tension mixed together," Nakanishi continued. "Early on, we worried players might not be able to keep up, but now we feel that the contrast gives the game a unique rhythm, like jumping into a cold bath after sitting in a hot sauna (laughs)."

Nakanishi went on to describe Leon's playable sections as a "release" after the intense horror of playing as the less-experienced Grace. But don't expect Leon's gameplay to be a doddle — as the hero will also put himself in danger to protect others. Surely Capcom won't kill him off?

"The battle this time will probably push Leon to his limits more than ever before, and this is a crucial part of the experience," Nakanishi noted. "He's the type who doesn't hesitate to sacrifice himself to save others, but he's not arrogant about it, and he has a passionate inner self. I hope you'll also look forward to the dry wit and subtle sarcasm that only an older guy can bring."

Capcom knows that Leon has a passionate set of fans, and it sounds like the game will lean into that — making him a "handsome" figure who's "cool personality-wise too." Last night's trailer showed him driving a custom-built Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, something Capcom has secured an official license from the car company to include.

"Although he’s a character who carries a lot on his shoulders, we took a lot of care in refining him to be an 'ikeoji' (a cool/attractive older guy)," Nakanishi concluded. "The reactions to the trailer on that front have made us happy (laughs)."

Despite Leon's involvement now being confirmed, Requiem may still have secrets left in store. There was no mention tonight of a potential third playable character — something raised earlier this week by a GameStop listing that referenced Rosemary Winters. Star Wars: Galactic Racer Announced, From Former Burnout and Need For Speed Developers | The Game Awards 2025 - IGN

12 décembre 2025 à 04:31

A brand new Star Wars racing game has been announced, from the makers of Burnout and Need for Speed.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the first from Fuse Games, the studio founded in 2023 by former co-founders and lead developers at Criterion, the EA-owned veteran British outfit behind some of gaming's most beloved racers, such as Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

With Criterion itself now gobbled up as part of Battlefield Studios, the team at Fuse Games has set its sights on a galaxy far, far away, for a rather different kind of racing experience that looks like a fresh take on Star Wars podracing, with landspeeders, speeder bikes, and other sci-fi vehicles.

Various race tracks were glimpsed in the debut trailer, including an area that looked a lot like the desert planet of Jakku, home to the Star Wars sequel trilogy's Rey. And indeed, the game is set after the Empire's fall.

"Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a runs-based, high-stakes reinvention of racing born in the lawless Outer Rim of the Star Wars galaxy," an official blurb reads. "With the Empire gone and the galaxy rebuilding, The Galactic League is formed: an underground, unsanctioned circuit where syndicates bankroll chaos and champions are forged. "No Force. No prophecy. Just skill, strategy, and the will to rise."

Announced tonight at The Game Awards 2025, the project will be published by Secret Mode, the newly-independent publisher that previously handled Still Wakes the Deep. As for a release date, we only know it's coming in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Be sure to check out everything announced at The Game Awards 2025 for more, as well as the winners list in full.

'Every Limb Can Be Removed': Lords of the Fallen II Publisher Discusses Dismemberment, Lore and Learnings for the Sequel | The Game Awards 2025 - IGN

12 décembre 2025 à 04:00

Lords of the Fallen II publisher CI Games has shown gameplay footage of its Soulslike sequel during The Game Awards 2025, featuring new character Omeuras and enemy limbs flying everywhere.

Ahead of tonight's showing, IGN asked CI Games for more detail on what we'd just seen, keen for more detail ahead of the game's launch at some point in 2026.

Most prominent in the trailer is Omeuras, who CI Games creative strategist Ryan Hill told IGN is one of the sequel's central characters. She's brought to life by Hannah Melbourne, who previously played Agrias Oaks in Final Fantasy Tactics, and The Sorceress in Path of Exile 2.

"With the sequel, we wanted to craft a narrative that's more accessible and character-driven, while still honouring the environmental storytelling that Soulslike fans love," Hill said. "Players who want to dive deep into the lore absolutely can, but we also want every player to reach the end of the game understanding the journey they've taken and the pivotal role they've played in shaping this world."

Another key focus in the trailer is Lords of the Fallen II's new dismemberment feature, which allows you to lop limbs off enemies like nobody's business. Lords of the Fallen has never been squeamish with its blood and guts, but its developers say they have heard the call from fans for even more.

"When we asked our community just how far we should push the gore in the next Lords of the Fallen, the answer was loud and unanimous: 'go all in'," Hill noted. "This is a game made by adults for adults, and we didn't want to dilute the brutality or intensity of that experience. Soulslikes thrive on challenge, and that rush you get when defeating an enemy is unlike anything else. Enhancing that moment with a dynamic dismemberment system takes the satisfaction to another level - instead of enemies simply ragdolling to the floor, players can literally tear them apart."

So, can every limb be removed? "Yes - every limb can be removed."

Tonight's showing for Lords of the Fallen 2 comes just hours after CI Games launched a final surprise update for its predecessor, capping off almost two years' of post-launch support that has helped turn player sentiment around. While those updates have been welcomed, CI Games said it had learnt from the experience, and been listening to fan feedback "from day one."

"The journey from launch to Lords of the Fallen Version 2.5 (released yesterday) was transformative for our team. Over 70 updates later, the game evolved substantially, and that evolution was driven directly by our relationship with the community. Those learnings shaped not only how we build, but how we listen," Hill concluded.

"For the sequel, we’ve been actively engaging our fast-growing community from day one, understanding exactly what they want from the next chapter. You can already see some of those requests reflected in our new gameplay reveal trailer: a more varied game world, more distinctive and memorable boss encounters, and a deeper, more meaningful Umbral realm experience."

Be sure to check out everything announced at The Game Awards 2025 for more, as well as the winners list in full.

The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 Director Unveils Next Project Coven of the Chicken Foot | The Game Awards 2025 - IGN

12 décembre 2025 à 03:13

Bruce Straley, game director of The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, has announced a new project, Coven of the Chicken Foot.

Revealed tonight at The Game Awards 2025, the creature-filled puzzle platforming adventure will be the first project to launch from Straley's indie studio Wildflower Interactive, following his departure from Naughty Dog back in 2022.

You play as Gertie, an elderly witch in a world inspired by traditional fantasy adventures. Described as an emotionally-rich, charming-yet-dark adventure with puzzle-platforming elements, the game will feature dungeons, forests and bogs to explore as Gertie collaborates with an odd familiar.

"The dungeons have been plundered and the monsters long slain," reads an official blurb for the game. "As the heroes move on, an elderly witch quietly gets to work. Coven of the Chicken Foot is a single-player adventure about the building of a bond between an elderly witch named Gertie and a peculiar creature, who must learn to work together to fulfill an oath. As their trust deepens, a dark revelation of what they’re up against will make them question their commitment to the oath and to each other."

"Wildflower Interactive is built on the notion of pushing myself creatively and working with like-minded creative people, driven by a strong desire to continue the conversation about what kind of experiences video games can deliver," Straley said in a statement today. "We’re doing that with Coven of the Chicken Foot. It nods at the fun and simplicity of old school games, while also evolving the pairing of storytelling and interactivity in a new, challenging way. I’m very proud of what we’ve built at Wildflower and can’t wait for people to explore the world we’re creating and get to know our lovable duo."

There's no word yet on a release date, just confirmation that Coven of the Chicken Foot is coming to PC via Steam.

Be sure to check out everything announced at The Game Awards 2025 for more, as well as the winners list in full.

Capcom Finally Confirms Leon S. Kennedy Is In Resident Evil Requiem | The Game Awards 2025 - IGN

12 décembre 2025 à 02:59

After months of speculation and a revealing leak earlier this week, Capcom has finally, officially confirmed what we all knew: Leon S. Kennedy is in Resident Evil Requiem, and he's here to kick butt.

Tonight, at The Game Awards 2025, a fresh trailer for Resident Evil Requiem saw Leon fully revealed, swinging into action as the now-grizzled veteran zombie fighter we all know and love.

We learned what many of us had expected, that Leon will feature as one of two playable characters, alongside the previously announced Grace Ashcroft. While Grace's campaign focuses on survival horror, Leon's separate antics will focus on action.

Earlier this week, the reveal of new Resident Evil: Requiem cover art featuring Leon finally put to bed one of this year's biggest gaming mysteries — something developer Capcom has itself refused to address — just days ahead of Requiem's appearance tonight.

Rumors have persisted for months over Leon's involvement in Resident Evil: Requiem, with Capcom specifically declining to answer IGN's questions over the character back at Gamescom in August. The game's developers have even suggested that Leon would be a poor fit as a protagonist for the game's quieter sections as he is now too grizzled to be scared. But through all of this, Capcom left itself with just enough wiggle room for Leon to still be lurking somewhere — presumably during Requiem's more action-packed sequences.

Despite Leon's involvement now being confirmed, Requiem may still have secrets left in store. There was no mention tonight of a potential third playable character — something raised earlier this week by a GameStop listing that referenced Rosemary Winters.

Mario + Rabbids Creator Davide Soliani Announces New Platforming Game Bradley the Badger | The Game Awards 2025

12 décembre 2025 à 01:55

Davide Soliani, the lead creator behind the Mario + Rabbids games, has revealed Bradley the Badger — his first new project since leaving Ubisoft and forming a new studio.

Bradley the Badger mixes classic platforming gameplay with fresh twists and a rather meta-feeling story that sees players helping the video game mascot through its creator's unfinished work. Tonight's trailer, shown during The Game Awards 2025, featured obvious nods to Bloodborne, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Last of Us, and... Marvel star Evan Peters as Bradley.

The game is the first from Day 4 Night Studios, Soliani's new outfit founded alongside Red Dead Redemption, Shadow of Mordor and Perfect Dark veteran Christian Cantamessa. The pair are joined by a trio of other former Ubisoft employees — Cristina Nava, Gian Marco Zanna and Luca Breda — who previously worked on publisher's the Mario + Rabbids, Just Dance and Ghost Recon franchises.

Exploring the team's new game as Bradley, you'll visit numerous work-in-progress creations and have to traverse through them using an in-game Developer Kit. There will even be a few live-action scenes, framing your progress as you help Bradley's creator.

"Bradley the Badger is a love letter to games, creativity, and everyone who has ever felt stuck in their career or artistic journey," reads an official blurb. "The experience will expand beyond the game worlds with brief live-action moments, exploring various tropes, genres, and styles drawn from contemporary popular games and media."

Soliani found fame and captured the internet's heart as the lovable creator behind Mario + Rabbids, an unlikely but thoroughly enjoyable strategy game mash-up released for Nintendo Wii. Soliani's emotional response to seeing the game announced to a warm reception back at E3 2017 became legendary, but the creator left Ubisoft in 2024 after 25 years, following the launch of the game's sequel, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, which Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot later said he regretted launching too soon, rather than waiting and making a bigger splash on Switch 2.

“What we are crafting at Day 4 Night is a reflection of everything I’ve ever wanted to experience as a player - joy, adventure, poetry, action, wonder, and the pleasure of working with friends," said Soliani. "It’s a lullaby for my soul and a serenade to our industry, to the magic and the madness of creating worlds from nothing. It’s a story about triumphs, challenges, dreams, to light the path we walk together."

Trump expands Venezuela sanctions as Maduro decries new ‘era of piracy’

Six more oil supertankers added to sanctions list, as well as members of Maduro’s extended family, amid rising tensions following tanker seizure

Donald Trump has exerted more pressure on Venezuela’s president Nicolás Maduro, expanding sanctions and issuing fresh threats to strike land targets in Venezuela, as the South American dictator accused the US president of ushering in a new “era of criminal naval piracy” in the Caribbean.

Late on Thursday, the US imposed curbs on three nephews of Maduro’s wife, Cilia Flores, as well as six crude oil supertankers and the shipping companies linked to them. The treasury department alleged the vessels “engaged in deceptive and unsafe shipping practices and continue to provide financial resources that fuel Maduro’s corrupt narco-terrorist regime”.

Surprise Lords of the Fallen 2.5 Update Available Now, Just Hours Ahead of Sequel's Big Game Awards Showing

11 décembre 2025 à 19:00

Lords of the Fallen publisher CI Games has just announced and released a surprise final update to its 2023 game — mere hours ahead of its sequel getting a fresh airing at tonight's Game Awards.

Today's new Version 2.5 release caps off a lengthy journey for the action role-player, which launched to mixed reviews but has since turned around its player sentiment via a series of major post-launch patches.

Lords of the Fallen's previous major 2.0 update was once believed to be its last — as was its 1.5 update before that. But, based on further fan feedback, CI Games has put together one final offering that reworks enemy and boss behavior and adds a new Veteran Mode for those seeking the game's toughest challenge.

"We've prided ourselves on being a players-first studio, and we mean that," CI Games' creative strategist Ryan Hill told IGN today. "Version 2.0 in April was a huge milestone, but we weren't finished... It became clear that players wanted a greater challenge from both enemies and bosses, so we went back in and pushed those systems further.

"Version 2.5 brings significant enhancements to Legacy Mode - new behaviours, new movesets, more aggression across the board - and introduces an entirely new difficulty option, Veteran Mode, for players craving an even steeper climb. We're thrilled to offer this final major update free to all players as a genuine thank-you for their support, and as a small taste of what awaits them in Lords of the Fallen II next year."

Familiar bosses now feature fresh behaviors, with even more difficult versions tuned for Veteran Mode. But with fresh challenges also come new rewards, including signature attack animations on boss weapons and a unique breastplate for those who take on Veteran Mode and conquer it.

CI Games previously promised "big news" on Lords of the Fallen II would be featured in tonight's Game Awards 2025. Join us then, as IGN reports on all of the event's reveals as they happen.

‘Follow the path of exiles’: María Corina Machado’s US-aided escape from Venezuela

Nobel peace laureate’s decision to flee on people-smuggling route is highly symbolic, but will her influence wane if unable to return?

Thousands of Venezuelan migrants have braved the seas off Falcón state in recent years, fleeing their shattered homeland towards the Caribbean islands of Aruba and Curaçao in rickety wooden boats called yolas. Many lost their lives chasing a brighter future after their overcrowded vessels capsized or were smashed apart by rocks.

This week, the opposition leader María Corina Machado got a taste of that perilous journey herself, as the Nobel laureate began her surreptitious 5,500-mile-plus odyssey from her authoritarian homeland to Norway to collect her peace prize.

Disney Says It Will 'Thoughtfully and Responsibly Extend' Its Storytelling Through Generative AI Use With $1 Billion OpenAI Deal

11 décembre 2025 à 15:59

Disney has agreed to license 200 of its most beloved characters for use in Sora's generative AI videos, alongside a $1 billion investment in OpenAI.

The three-year deal will allow users to generate short-form videos featuring Disney icons such as Mickey Mouse, Pixar favorites such as Woody, Marvel heroes like Black Panther and Captain America, as well as Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.

Disney and OpenAI's agreement includes mention of a "shared commitment to the responsible use of AI that protects user safety and the rights of creators," and notably, Disney has said that all of its licensed characters will be animated, masked or creatures, with no "talent likeness or voices." There will also be "age-appropriate policies and other reasonable controls."

After Sora and ChatGPT both gain the ability to generate AI content based on Disney characters in early 2026, curated selections of this AI-generated content will begin rolling out via Disney+. There's mention of other "new experiences for Disney+ subscribers" generated by AI too, without any further detail — other than that they will provide "innovative and creative ways to connect with Disney’s stories and characters."

The addition of user-generated content on Disney+ was previously mentioned last month by Disney boss Bob Iger, who dubbed its rollout as the "biggest and the most significant change" to Disney's streaming service since its launch.

"Technological innovation has continually shaped the evolution of entertainment, bringing with it new ways to create and share great stories with the world," Iger said in a statement today. "The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence marks an important moment for our industry, and through this collaboration with OpenAI we will thoughtfully and responsibly extend the reach of our storytelling through generative AI, while respecting and protecting creators and their works.

"Bringing together Disney’s iconic stories and characters with OpenAI’s groundbreaking technology puts imagination and creativity directly into the hands of Disney fans in ways we’ve never seen before," Iger continued, "giving them richer and more personal ways to connect with the Disney characters and stories they love."

Back in October, the launch of OpenAI's Sora 2 saw it flooded with AI versions of Disney characters, as well as Pokémon and other licensed properties — until the platform belatedly began clamping down on copyright-infringing material. Popular videos included examples of pop culture characters in X-Wings or holding lightsabers — something it seems we're now about to see a lot more of, with Disney's seal of approval.

Licensed characters set to be thrown into the generative AI algorithm include Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Lilo, Stitch, Ariel, Belle, Beast, Cinderella, Baymax, Simba, Mufasa, plus more from Encanto, Frozen, Inside Out, Moana, Monsters Inc., Toy Story, Up, and Zootopia. Marvel and Lucasfilm characters are also included, such as Black Panther, Captain America, Deadpool, Groot, Iron Man, Loki, Thor, Thanos, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Leia, the Mandalorian, Stormtroopers and Yoda.

Beyond Disney+, the deal will see Disney overall "become a major customer of OpenAI", today's announcement from the two companies revealed, with the ChatGPT and Sora maker's capabilties deployed to help create "new products, tools, and experiences."

In related news, Disney has today accused Google of infringing its copyright "on a massive scale" by using its works to train its own generative AI models. In a cease-and-desist letter revealed by Variety, Disney said it believes Google is allowing its own algorithm to create content featuring many of the same characters it has now licensed to OpenAI, without its permission.

And of course, all of this comes amid the ongoing backdrop of Hollywood's other huge industry development — the $82.7 billion sale of Warner Bros. to Netflix (which Paramount is now trying to disrupt with its own hostile takeover bid). One recent report suggested that Netflix valued Warner Bros. so highly because it wanted to use the century-old company's intellectual properties within its own generative AI content in future.

You'll Soon Be Able to Buy Kim Kardashian in Fortnite — Here's How She Looks

11 décembre 2025 à 14:28

Kim Kardashian is joining Fortnite, and you'll be able to play as the TV and fashion icon beginning this weekend.

Two Kim Kardashian skins will become available in Fortnite this Saturday, December 13, cementing the star as one of the game's highest-profile public figures to date.

Leaning into the Kardashian's fashionable status, Kim's skins have been designed to be highly customisable. The Iconic Kim Kardashian skin features her in skin-tight attire with alterable colors, necklines and hairstyles. The regular Kim Kardashian skin, meanwhile, comes with a jacket you can toggle on and off.

Accompanying these are a pair of emotes, including one where Kim shakes up a bottle of Slurp juice and uncorks it over her head, catching it in a glass balanced on her... foot. (Fortnite might have nipples now, but squirting into a glass on your behind is apparently the limit.)

Kardashian's appearance in Fortnite is tied extremely loosely into the game's recent Chapter 7 relaunch. Its main battle royale modes now feature a fresh Californian-inspired map with the game's own version of Hollywood to explore.

The latest addition to Fortnite's Icon Series of real-life stars, Kardashian joins fellow luminaries such as Snoop Dogg, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Billy Eilish, Eminem, and England soccer player Harry Kane. Now that's a squad.

'Many of You Will Want to Hang Me' — Fake Shenmue 4 Trailer Creator Apologizes, Says It Was Not Made 'Out of Malice'

11 décembre 2025 à 13:47

The culprit behind the recent viral but very much fake Shenmue 4 trailer has apologized for creating false AI footage of the franchise's fictional fourth game.

In a post on fan forum ShenmueDojo, the creator, under the alias "JustAFan1," issued an apology for misleading the internet — just days after Shenmue developer Ys Net released its own statement that slammed the video for raising fan hopes and revealed it was now exploring legal action.

In their statement, JustAFan1 explained that they had made the video not "out of malice, but love for Shenmue." Indeed, their statement ends with the suggestion that "all the media attention this has received will do something to convince investors" that Shenmue 4 should be made.

"I just wanted to set the record straight for all those who think it might still be half real," JustAFan1 wrote. "It's not.

"I know many of you will want to hang me for dashing your hopes, but know this was not done out of malice, but love for Shenmue. I realize I went about it the wrong way, and I apologize for that. But I hope all the media attention this has received will do something to convince investors that Shenmue is very much alive and profitable if approached correctly."

As proof that they were the creator of the video, JustAFan1 posted a link to a new version of the trailer with additional music and footage, along with a lengthier apology statement in both English and Japanese.

"I want to be absolutely clear: I am merely a fan of the series and have absolutely no professional or personal affiliation with Ys Net, nor have I ever had any," this statement reads. "The creation and release of the trailer, which presented itself as an official piece of promotional material recorded behind the scenes, was a lapse in judgment. I take full responsibility for this action."

JustAFan1's statement continues by confirming that the fake trailer's story elements were made using publicly available lore and common fan theories about where the Shenmue series might progress in future, with nothing that specifically reflected any real development that may or may not be underway within Ys Net.

"While my intent was centered on a positive outcome, the method I chose to achieve it was misleading and unprofessional. I deeply regret creating and sharing information that was not factual, and I understand the negative impact this misinformation had.

"The sole purpose behind creating the 'Shenmue 4' trailer was to demonstrate the sustained and substantial market demand and community enthusiasm for this beloved series," the video statement concludes. "I meant no harm to Ys Net, its brand, or its loyal fans. My motivation was to champion the series and help encourage its continuation, not to mislead or create distress."

Reaction to the statement has been mostly supportive, with many agreeing that the trailer had created fresh buzz for the franchise amid hope for confirmation of a new game.

"Nah, you're good," fan hyo_razuki replied. "I knew it was fake from the beginning but it was fun and you generated some enthusiasm for Shenmue, so no biggie, no need to apologize."

As of now, it's unknown if a fourth major Shenmue game will ever get made, though the franchise's fans certainly hope it happens. Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki told IGN in 2023 that he wanted to create a fourth game at some point, though he is currently still working on an enhanced version of Shenmue 3. This, Suzuki hopes, will win the game a warmer reception across a wider set of platforms, after a middling response to Shenmue 3 at the game's initial launch.

Bethesda 'Investigating' Skyrim Switch 2 Performance Issues, as Fans Brand Latest Port a 'Disaster'

11 décembre 2025 à 12:41

Just a day after Bethesda announced and launched The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Nintendo Switch 2, the publisher has acknowledged the game has performance issues.

In a lengthy thread on reddit that brands the port as a "disaster," there are widespread complaints about input lag and the game's locked 30 frames per second visuals. "There's like a whole second between me flicking the stick and my character moving its head," the post's author wrote, describing the experience as worse than "online Smash Bros."

Many have compared Skyrim's Switch 2 port with that of the far more recent Cyberpunk 2077, which offers 40 frames per second on Nintendo's new hardware while rendering considerably more detailed environments. And there has been criticism, too, of the fact the game hogs 53GB of space on the Switch 2's relatively limited internal memory, compared to just 25GB on PC.

A separate reddit post with more than 2,400 upvotes showing a video of the game's input delay can be seen below:

On Bethesda's official support site, the publisher has listed a question that asks: "Why am I experiencing frame rate issues with The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim following the Anniversary Edition update on Nintendo Switch?"

"We are investigating reports of performance issues on Nintendo Switch with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim after the Anniversary Edition update," is the official response. There's no word on fixes yet, but the publisher said anyone experiencing issues could subscribe to the article for updates.

"In addition, you can provide feedback and information regarding on this topic via the Feedback form," Bethesda concluded.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is being sold for $59.99. Alternatively, anyone who owns Skyrim Anniversary Edition on the original Switch can pay $19.99 to upgrade the game and play on both consoles.

Included for your money are Skyrim's base game and the three official Expansions: Dawnguard; Dragonborn; and Hearthfire. Players on Switch 2 get experience enhanced resolution, improved load times, performance optimisation, Joy-Con 2 mouse support, motion controls, Amiibo support, and more versus the OG Switch version, taking advantage of the more powerful hardware.

This week, IGN talked with Bethesda Game Studios exec Todd Howard about the company's future plans. Intriguinly, Howard said that while The Elder Scrolls 6 was still the next big new video game to be in the works, Fallout is the franchise the studio is doing the most in right now.

007 First Light Leak Reveals Music Star Will Play New James Bond Villain — And You'll Never Guess Who It Is

11 décembre 2025 à 12:25

Yet another leak ahead of tonight's The Game Awards 2025 has revealed a legendary music star as a new James Bond villain in 007 First Light.

In a now-deleted social post from the official 007 social media account, Fly Away singer Lenny Kravitz was unmasked as playing a First Light character named Bawma, who shares Kravitz's likeness. And while the post may have been swiftly removed, the internet still took notice — seemingly letting a further secret out ahead of tonight's big gaming awards and announcement event.

"He rose from nothing, broke free, and built his own Kindom of Aleph," the now-deleted post read. "Introducing Bawma, the largest black-market dealer in the Western Hemisphere who's as charismatic as he is unpredictable."

The accompanying video, now also deleted, shows clearly that Bawma is a villain, as he has strung up Bond and threatens to drop him into a pit packed with crocodiles.

Kravitz is most famous for his lengthy Grammy Award-winning musical career, but the star also holds a handful of acting credits, most notably for his work in The Hunger Games and its sequel Catching Fire, as hero Katniss Everdeen's fashionable aide Cinna.

Of course, Kravitz is not the first big name set to appear in 007: First Light, the upcoming James Bond blockbuster in development at Hitman developer IO Interactive. The game will also feature Eternals star Gemma Chan and The Walking Dead actor Lennie James, while Dexter: Original Sin's Patrick Gibson is the new Bond himself.

Kravitz will also be far from the first musician to appear in a James Bond property. "Continuing the trope of musical performers randomly appearing in Bond media, I see," Bond fan Jordan Gill noted on social media. "Jimmy Dean, Grace Jones, Wayne Newton, Madonna... now Lenny Kravitz."

"Lenny Kravitz bringing Bawma to life is wild enough — but now I'm wondering... could he also be the one singing the title song in the end?" added another fan, ExpectingMrBond. "Maybe not Lana after all?"

Video Games singer Lana Del Rey was recently spotted having recorded a fresh song titled "First Light", which would be a neat fit for the franchise and IO Interactive's game after her earlier track "24" was famously snubbed as the theme for Daniel Craig outing Spectre, the 24th Bond movie.

Tune in to The Game Awards 2025 to get a proper look at Kravitz in the role, as IGN reports on the event live.

The Game Awards Tomb Raider Reveal Leaks Online Just Hours Before the Show

11 décembre 2025 à 10:55

Another day, another leak ahead of The Game Awards 2025 — which is set to feature a look at what's next for Tomb Raider heroine Lara Croft.

Ahead of time, cover artwork has leaked for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, what looks to be a full remake of the franchise's original game. There are stills from a new trailer, too, showing Lara Croft in action.

Croft's design here appears to be a blend of the character's 'classic' design with her look from the franchise's more recent reboot trilogy, which showcased her origins. It's presumed that this remake will fully position the series' first Tomb Raider adventure as taking place after that trilogy, as had always been suggested.

Se habría filtrado "Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis", el remake del primer juego con algunas imágenes, portada incluida.

— Tarada (Ash)Croft (@JesuisJanice) December 11, 2025

After the images leaked online last night via video game forum ResetEra, fans quickly noted that Croft's box art pose perfectly matches that seen in The Game Awards' official social media teaser for tonight, where she is stood atop a rock, with one arm outstretched, iconic dual pistols raised.

The Game Awards' teaser boasted of "a look at the future of one of gaming's most iconic franchises" and tagged in the official Tomb Raider account, but is a remake really all that's in the works? It seems unlikely. Replying to the leak via ResetEra, noted gaming tipster Shinobi602 suggested that multiple projects would be shown tonight, and fans would not be disappointed.

Indeed, Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics has been working now for several years on its next chapter of the franchise. Here's hoping we get some word of that tonight too.

First announced in 2022, we are yet to see anything of the all-new Tomb Raider, though we did get a look at the Lara Croft redesign last year. Meanwhile, it has been a turbulent time for Crystal Dynamics with three waves of layoffs this year, including 30 individuals last month, an unknown number of workers in August following the cancellation of Perfect Dark by Xbox, and 17 people earlier in the year, as well as 10 others back in 2023.

Alongside all this, we know there's a live-action Tomb Raider series in the works at Amazon in partnership with Story Kitchen, starring Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. The show will, per Story Kitchen, "reinvent the franchise on a massive scale" and will interconnect "live-action television series and video games into a unified storytelling universe." How will it all connect? What else is in the works? We may well find out more tonight.
