The Lenovo Legion Go S, powered by AMD's budget-friendly Ryzen Z2 Go APU, has been tested in early gaming benchmarks. And surprisingly, it's holding its own against the more powerful Asus ROG Ally X powered by the Ryzen Z1 Extreme.

YouTube channel Fps Vn managed to get their hands on a Legion Go S console and pitted it against the ROG Ally X in a head-to-head gaming showdown. While showing a performance advantage for the Ally X, the results reveal that the Legion Go S's Ryzen Z2 Go APU isn't that far behind

The Legion Go S's Ryzen Z2 Go is based on AMD's older CPU and GPU architectures, featuring 4 Zen 3+ cores and RDNA 2 integrated graphics. This contrasts with the ROG Ally X's Ryzen Z1 Extreme, which boasts 8 Zen 4 cores and an RDNA 3 iGPU. Despite these architectural differences, the Legion Go S achieved respectable performance in demanding titles like Black Myth: Wukong, Cyberpunk 2077, and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut. The benchmarks showed a performance gap of about 10% in favour of the ROG Ally X. This is particularly impressive considering the Z2 Go's lower core count, older architecture, and lower CPU boost clock speed (4.3 GHz vs. 5.1 GHz).

The real battleground for these handheld gaming PCs lies in their price-to-performance ratio. The Legion Go S is expected to launch at $499 for the SteamOS model and $599 for the Windows 11 version, significantly undercutting the ROG Ally X's current price of $799. This aggressive pricing could make the Legion Go S a compelling option for budget-conscious gamers. However, Asus might respond with a price drop for the ROG Ally X in the coming months.
