One of the biggest new innovations seen with the Nintendo Switch 2 is the console’s mouse mode feature – allowing you to turn your Joy-Con onto its side and slide it around like a PC peripheral. While some games have made use of the feature, one title which will not is Resident Evil Requiem; with the game’s producer claiming to have “tried really hard to implement mouse controls for Nintendo Switch 2.”

A major supporter of Nintendo in recent years has been Capcom, with the game developer / publisher releasing a bunch of titles for the OG Switch throughout its lifecycle.

Easily the biggest Capcom game coming to Switch 2 so far is Resident Evil Requiem – coming day-and-date with all other systems in February of 2026.

In an interview with the publication PressStart, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa was asked about the upcoming game’s Switch 2 release and whether they suffered from any issues during development. According to Kumazawa:

“Looking back on Switch, there were Resident Evil games before on the Switch, so what we did, is we used the past experience of developing these games on the Switch to help develop Nintendo Switch 2. But also, we made a lot of versions of the games for PC as well. In fitting with PCs that have a wide variety of specs, we could also just make sure the game was optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 too. So it wasn’t too hard, so to speak.”

While it appears so far as though the Switch 2 version should be able to keep up with the rest of the systems, Requiem will not be making use of one of the Switch 2’s most unique features, with Kumazawa adding:

“We tried really hard to implement mouse controls for Nintendo Switch 2. When we put it in, it confused the gameplay and became too complicated. So actually, we are using gyro instead.”

Of course, the inclusion of gyro controls is welcome to see, however it would be interesting to know exactly how mouse mode ‘confused the gameplay’. Perhaps Requiem requires heavy use of the face buttons? We will have to wait and see, but hopefully developers are able to find useful implementations of the Switch 2’s mouse mode as the generation progresses.

One of the biggest surprise hits from the recent rise in adaptations of video games into film/TV was Peacock’s Twisted Metal. Released back in 2023, a second Season was quickly greenlit – arriving just a few months ago. It appears as though Peacock is not done however, with a Season 3 of Twisted Metal now being officially announced,

As reported by the publication Variety, a 3rd Season of Peacock’s Twisted Metal series has been greenlit. This perhaps is not too surprising given the success of the show itself, with July’s Season 2 amassing almost a Billion minutes of watch time – not bad for a show based on a decades old IP with no new entries.

That said, while the series is set to return, its creator will not, with the publication confirming that Twisted Metal’s co-creator and showrunner ‘Michael Jonathan Smith’ has exited the project.

This hopefully should not impact development however, with David Reed (known best for working on The Boys) already announced to be taking over the role of showrunner and executive producer.

As mentioned, the original Season 1 for Twisted Metal was a surprise hit, especially given the less-than-stellar reception towards the show prior to its release.

With two successful Seasons under its belt now (and a third on the way), here’s to hoping that Sony realises the potential within the Twisted Metal franchise.

With Sony’s PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium titles for the month of November now out and available for subscribers to claim, the console maker has confirmed the list of titles which will be removed from the service next month. In a rather major exodus, PS Plus is set to lose a number of notable games, including Sonic Frontiers; Forspoken; GTA 3 Definitive Edition and more.

In going to the last chance to play section on the PlayStation 5’s PS Plus tab, subscribers can find a list of 9 titles which are set to be removed from the service next month (likely mid-December:

• Battlefield 2042
• GTA 3 Definitive Edition
• Arcade Paradise VR
• Sonic Frontiers
• Forspoken
• Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy's Edge
• Firefighting Simulator The Squad
• Surviving Mars
• Star Trek Bridge Crew

While some of these are not too unexpected (such as the removal of Battlefield 2042), Sonic Frontiers leaving the service is certainly a blow to PS Plus.

In addition, while the game’s story and dialogue left a lot to be desired, Forspoken features a fun and unique combat scheme which could be enough of a reason to give the game a go ahead of its removal.

Beyond this, it is disappointing to once again see a number of PSVR2 titles being removed, with Arcade Paradise VR in particular being an unfortunate departee (as well as Star Trek Bridge Crew).

As mentioned however, you still have around a month’s time to play/complete these games before they are removed.

While fans continue to wait for the next mainline entry in Crystal Dynamic’s Tomb Raider series, the franchise itself has been far from quiet – with Lara Croft having received remasters of previous games, an animated Netflix series and the announcement of a live-action show. In another return to past titles, 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot has now been announced and released for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Developed in partnership with Aspyr, 2013’s Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has been officially announced for the Nintendo Switch and its successor.

Available right now for the price of $19.99 (or $17.99 as part of a launch promotion), the Definitive Edition includes all of the original game’s content, even its oft-forgotten multiplayer mode.

While we did not get any technical specifications, seeing as how Tomb Raider (2013) originally released for the 7th generation of consoles, both the Switch (and especially the Switch 2) should run the game with no issues.

This does beg the question as to whether the Definitive Edition will also be ported over to other modern systems. As mentioned, Tomb Raider was originally a PS3 / Xbox 360 title.

Though it did see some enhancements with the release of the Definitive Edition for the PS4 / Xbox One, the game could certainly benefit from at least a 4K60fps update on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

We will have to wait and see, but given that they have now released the first entry in a trilogy on the Switch, expect Rise and Shadow of the Tomb Raider to be next in line for a port.

Yoko Taro made a name for himself thanks to the highly-successful release of NieR: Automata back in 2017. While the director has since gone on to work on a number of projects, none have been as ambitious as the PlatinumGames-developed genre-bending action-adventure title. It appears as though this wasn't for lack of trying however, with Taro revealing that “a lot of projects I was involved in” ultimately wound up being cancelled.

Taking part in a discussion panel at the Korean video game convention ‘G-CON 2025’, NieR creator Yoko Taro was asked about their current work and upcoming projects. According to the director (as transcribed by 4Gamer and translated by the publication Automaton):

“I often get told stuff like ‘Why aren’t you making a new sequel to NieR’ or ‘Yoko Taro isn’t doing anything,’ but that’s because recently, a lot of projects I was involved in got discontinued midway through development.”

He continued, “I’ve actually been working on some stuff, it’s just that it never ended up seeing the light of day. I got paid for it, so I personally have no issues with that, but people seem to think that I haven’t been doing anything just because none of the work I’ve done is being released. I don’t view that as a negative thing. I believe that if I’m going to release something  weird, I’d be better off not releasing anything at all.”

As mentioned, since the release of Automata in 2017 Yoko Taro has not been static, with the director having worked on a number of mobile exclusives including SINoALICE; NieR Reincarnation and Voice of Cards.

That said, with NieR: Automata far exceeding expectations with over 9 million copies sold, here’s to hoping that one of Yoko Taro’s cancelled projects was not the much-requested NieR 3.

Back in 2022, EA officially announced that they were working on the next generation of their ever-green Sims franchise, with the untitled Sims 5 said to be utilising a newly upgraded version of the game’s engine, offering more tools to help players build and decorate with a finer level of detail. Unfortunately the project has since been pivoted, with the publisher confirming that they instead plan to continue supporting the decade-old Sims 4. While a disappointment to be sure, at the very least it appears as though EA is working on a remaster of sorts for Sims 4.

As reported by the dedicated ‘SimsCommunity’ fansite, multiple insiders have claimed that EA’s The Sims 4 will be receiving a remaster of sorts, with leaker ‘thesimmerdan’ telling the publication: “I can tell you that [studio] Maxis is working on a separate base game that will replace The Sims 4. It’s not The Sims 5, but something like The Sims 4 HD.”

Elaborating on this further, they continued, “From what I know, they’re going to improve the lighting and rework all the graphics. They’re using elements from Project Rene and the large-scale update for The Sims 4 that they originally wanted to release – but then realized it would be easier to just make a separate new base game.”

For context, Project Rene was announced by EA back in 2022 as a “next generation Sims game and creative platform”. Seemingly initially intended to be The Sims 5, EA later confirmed that they will instead continue to work on the decade-old Sims 4, claiming “What we’re really working with our community on is this a new era of ‘The Sims.’ We are not going to be working on replacements of previous projects; we’re only going to be adding to our universe.”

While this was certainly disappointing at the time, assuming a Sims 4 remaster is real and will indeed be a solid platform to build upon, then the desire for a Sims 5 will hopefully be alleviated. We will have to wait and see.

Built as a spiritual successor to the classic SimCity series, Cities: Skylines released back in 2015 to a wave of long-term success, selling more than 12 million copies and spawning a sequel. Unfortunately, Skyline’s successor has struggled from a plethora of issues – with publisher Paradox Interactive revealing that they have now parted ways with the devs at Colossal Order.

Making the surprise announcement on their official forums, Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order released a joined statement confirming the end of their long-running partnership, writing:

“After more than a decade of successful collaboration across numerous titles that we’re both immensely proud of, Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order have mutually decided to pursue independent paths. The decision was made thoughtfully and in the interest of both teams – ensuring the strongest possible future for the Cities: Skylines franchise.”

Moving forward, the Finland-based Iceflake Studios is taking over “all existing and future development for Cities: Skylines II, including free updates for the current version, continuous work on the Editor and console editions, as well as future expansions and content packs.”

As mentioned, Cities: Skylines 2 has not had the best of starts, with the team warning players prior to its release back in 2023 of expected performance issues. This appeared to have been somewhat understated though, with the game arriving on PC in a problematic state and the long-promised console release nowhere in sight.

While it is a shame to see the once-successful partnership between Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive come to an end, hopefully the team at Iceflake Studios are able to right the Cities: Skylines 2 ship in due time. In the wake of the overwhelming success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo were quick to announce that they are also working on a Legend of Zelda film. While details have so far remained light, Nintendo have now officially shared a first look at their live-action interpretation of Link and Zelda.

Following reports from a couple weeks ago in which it was revealed that filming for the live-action Legend of Zelda film had begun in Wellington, New Zealand, Nintendo has now officially confirmed as much while also offering a slight teaser for the project.

Taking to the Nintendo Today app (alongside other socials), Nintendo’s Miyamoto shared a couple early images of the ongoing film project, writing:

“This is Miyamoto. We have officially begun filming the live-action movie adaptation of ‘The Legend of Zelda’ in the magnificent great outdoors, together with Bo Bragason, who plays Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who plays Link. The filming is progressing smoothly, so I would appreciate it if you could quietly watch over us. The theatrical release is scheduled for May 7, 2027. Please wait just a little longer.”

As mentioned, details regarding the upcoming project have been rather light, with it currently being unknown as to whether the film will directly adapt any of the series’ games – or whether it will tell its own original story.

That said, based on the images released, it could be a bit of a blend, with Link wearing his classic green tunic while Zelda adopts a more Breath of the Wild-styled garb.

Though we will have to wait and see how the final product winds up looking like, these early screenshots do offer a somewhat filmic look while managing not to fall into the ‘cosplay’ trap. It will be interesting to see whether Link will talk in the film, or remain mute like in the games.

Since the first game’s arrival in 2017, the Horizon franchise has grown massively, with recent figures putting the series at 40 million copies sold. Despite being a single player focused franchise, Guerrilla Games have revealed in the wake of NCSoft’s Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO announcement that “from the first moment we imagined Horizon, we always thought about it as a multiplayer game.”

Following the official announcement of Sony/NCSoft’s Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO, the current Studio and Art Director at Guerrilla Games ‘Jan-Bart van Beek’ claimed that:

“From the first moment we imagined Horizon, we always thought about it as a multiplayer game. LEGO Horizon Adventures was our first small step, with Steel Frontiers we’re taking a bigger one. There is much more to come, and we’re excited to show you what is coming.”

While the Horizon series works well as a single-player focused experience, the world in which the franchise takes place is also ripe for a co-op spin-off.

With leaks and rumours suggesting that Guerrilla Games themselves are also currently working on a multiplayer-focused Horizon game (separate from NCSoft’s MMO), it will be interesting to see whether fans of the franchise are receptive to the series shifting genres.

While Steam has been lauded for years thanks to its user-friendly approach to game refunds, GOG’s return policy is arguably even more friendly. Despite this, the team at CD Projekt have confirmed that just 0.03% of GOG users have exploited this generosity – claiming “when you trust players, they give you every reason to keep trusting them.”

Responding to a Reddit thread discussing the potential exploitation of GOG’s generous refund policy – in which one user revealed that they “literally played Cyberpunk, finished it + a ton of side content, then refunded it because I needed the money” – the official GOG Twitter page offered a surprisingly candid comment, stating:

“As this Reddit thread gains traction, we want to stress that when you trust players, they give you every reason to keep trusting them: only 0.03% of our active users in October abused our Refund Policy.”

For context, GOG’s refund policy is currently stated as follows: “You may request a refund for a product up to 30 days after purchase, even if it was downloaded, launched, and played” – with no wording on whether there is a maximum amount of play time allowed before requesting a refund.

Of course, it is worth noting that the team at ‘Good Old Games' does have every right to deny a request, but it appears as though for now they are primarily placing their trust in the players.

GOG has made a ton of strides in ensuring they are objectively the best place to purchase and play PC games. Hopefully their refund policy is maintained and doesn’t wind up being exploited further in the wake of this revelation.

Earlier this year, as part of the ongoing lawsuit between Sony and Tencent, the PS5 console maker revealed that their Horizon Zero Dawn / Forbidden West franchise had sold a total of 38 million copies since the first game’s launch back in 2017. In the months since, it appears as though the series has only continued to grow, with the franchise having reportedly now exceeded 40 million copies sold.

As reported by the Korean publication ‘news.nate.com’ (and translated by ResetEra user Red Kong XIX) in the wake of the official announcement of NCSoft’s Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO, it was revealed that since the first game’s arrival in early 2017, the Horizon franchise has sold a total of 40 million copies.

As mentioned, the last ‘official’ figure put the series at 38 million copies as of July 2025, meaning either the previous data was somewhat outdated, or the series has pushed a further 2 million copies since the previous report.

As of right now, the Horizon series consists of 4 games: 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn; 2022’s Horizon Forbidden West; the PSVR2-exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain in 2023 and most recently Lego Horizon Adventures last year.

Given that at least two more Horizon projects have been confirmed, it will be interesting to see how quickly the series will take to reach its next major milestone of 50 million copies.

After well over a decade being limited to the 7th generation of video game consoles, the much-loved Red Dead Redemption was finally ported to ‘modern’ systems in 2023. Technically only released for the PS4/Pro and the OG switch (as well as PC later on), Rockstar has now unveiled a free current-gen update, coming to the PS5; Series X|S and Switch 2 – alongside an Android/iOS port.

Making the announcement the team at Rockstar Games officially confirmed that “Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are coming to Netflix, iOS, Android, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2.”

While we did not get any specifics regarding what this upgrade will entail, the studio confirmed that it will be a free update including “the ability to carry over game progress, and a number of enhancements.”

As mentioned, Red Dead Redemption was first remastered back in 2023, arriving primarily for the PS4/Pro at the time (though it did get a PS5-specific FPS unlock option after-the-fact).

As such, it will be interesting to see what this 9th-gen release winds up introducing on top of the previously-offered boost to resolution and FPS.

At the very least, it is encouraging to see the update being offered for free. Hopefully Red Dead Redemption 2 is next in line for a remaster.
