The HP Black Friday Sale Is Now Live, Save up to $1,300 Off Powerful OMEN Gaming Laptops

25 novembre 2025 à 01:00

HP's Black Friday Sale has officially commenced, and it encompasses HP's entire range of OMEN gaming laptops. Gamers looking for a mobile desktop replacement will find plenty of deals right up their alley. OMEN MAX, OMEN Transcend, and just plain old OMEN gaming laptops are on sale right now with discounts up to $1,300 off. The range of products caters to every budget, from affordable yet capable RTX 5060 systems to top-end RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 powerhouses. All orders ship free and all HP laptops come standard with a 1 year warranty.

OMEN MAX 16 RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Laptop

HP just dropped the price of the OMEN MAX 16 RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Laptop to just $1,539.99 with free shipping after applying 30% off coupon "OMENMAX30". Specs include a 16" 1920x1200 display, Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. This system can be customized if any of the specs aren't to your liking. I'd recommend upgrading to the 2560x1600 OLED display for an extra $150 ($105 after code). The RTX 5070 Ti is a powerful mobile GPU that should easily handle even the latest demanding games on the laptop's 2K display. It's comparable in performance to the previous generation's RTX 4080 and pulls ahead of it in games that support DLSS 4.

OMEN MAX 16 RTX 5080 Gaming Laptop

If you want something even more powerful, then check out this OMEN MAX 16 RTX 5080 gaming laptop for just $1,999.99 with free shipping after $1,300 in instant discounts. Aside from the GPU, this laptop has been upgraded with a higher resolution 16" 2560x1600 display, a more powerful and higher core-count Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, and double the RAM and storage capacity. The RTX 5080 is an absolute monster of a mobile GPU that surpasses the previous generation's top performer, the RTX 4090. You could even enable ray tracing and still get playable frames, something that was unheard of in laptops just a few years ago.

OMEN Transcend 14 RTX 5060 Ultra-Portable Gaming Laptop

The OMEN Transcend 14 is HP's thinnest and lightest gaming laptop, measuring just 0.71" thin and weighing in at about 3.6 pounds (about as thin and light as the much pricier Razer Blade 14). Right now you can get it for as low as $1,299.99 for Black Friday after a $700 off instant discount. It's equipped with a gorgeous 14" 2880x1800 OLED display, efficient Intel Core Ultra 7 255H CPU, GeForce RTX 5060 GPU, 16GB of LPDDR5X (onboard) RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The RTX 5060 is a capable, current-gen GPU that will play non-demanding games just fine even on the 3K display, but I'd recommend dropping the resolution down to 1080p and enabling DLSS if you plan on playing extra demanding games. Still, you won't find another thin and light laptop with this kind of gaming prowess under $1,300.

OMEN 16" RTX 5060 Gaming Laptop

Yes, even if you're budget is tight, you can still get a very good gaming laptop for under $1,000. This OMEN 16" gaming laptop, featuring an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, can be had for just $949.99 after a hefty $850 off instant discount. The AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX is a surprisingly powerful GPU for this price range, with a max frequency of 5.3GHz and an ample 16 cores and 32 threads. The RTX 5060 is an unthrottled model that's more powerful than the 5060 found in the OMEN Transcend and will be able to run games smoothly on the 2K display.

Get All 52 Episodes of Courage the Cowardly Dog for $14.99

25 novembre 2025 à 00:45

Anyone cruising for some good old-fashioned nostalgia should should head over to Amazon, where the entire Courage the Cowardly Dog series is on sale for $14.99 as part of Black Friday. This classic Cartoon Network collection contains all 52 episodes on DVD (no Blu-Ray for this one, unfortunately) across eight discs, allowing you to experience Courage's crazy antics from beginning to end for a near all-time low price.

That's not the only Cartoon Network DVD box set on sale. Amazon is also running limited-time deals on Dexter's Laboratory, Ed, Edd n Eddy, The Powerpuff Girls, and Regular Show.

Courage the Cowardly Dog - The Complete Series for $14.99

It's been 23 years since Courage the Cowardly Dog ended, but there's no better time to head back to Nowhere, Kansas than right now. This was a pivotal cartoon from my childhood and I often forget just how creepy it was, weaving horror and supernatural themes throughout each episode. If you haven't seen it before, it's definitely worth a watch.

Unfortunately, there's nowhere to stream Courage the Cowardly Dog after it and other Cartoon Network classics were purged from HBO Max earlier this year. That makes this DVD box set your best bet if you want to experience the wild adventures of a perpetually frightened dog and his owners.

Even More Cartoon Network Classics on Sale at Amazon

As for those other Cartoon Network classics I mentioned at the top, Dexter's Laboratory is technically the only other one with a Black Friday-specific deal. But Amazon still has Ed, Edd n Eddy, the Powerpuff Girls, and Regular Show available for significant discounts.

The retailer also brought back its 3 for 2 sale on 4K movies for Black Friday, so be sure to check that out for even more savings.

You can shop all the Black Friday sales right now, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. We'll be updating these pages and rounding up even more deals all week long, so make sure to check back often.

Amazon's Buy 2, Get 1 Free Vinyl Sale Returns for Black Friday With Its Best Selection Yet

25 novembre 2025 à 00:23

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for savings, with Amazon dropping epic Black Friday deals you can already shop. The online retail giant has brought back the awesome buy two, get the third free vinyl sale for the occasion, and there’s a whole stock of new albums you’ll want to grab. Chances are good you’ll end up with way more than three albums required after eyeing the range of classics, recent releases, and special editions available with this promotion.

This two-for-three vinyl deal works exactly like it sounds: when you buy three albums, the lowest-priced album will be free. So, I’d recommend grabbing three similarly priced options for a better value. Best of all, it’s actually not just vinyl that you can grab with this promo; it’s buy two, get one free on a whole range of physical media. From 4K Blu-Rays and DVDs to book box sets and more, you can mix and match to your liking. Once eligible items are added to your cart, the discount will be applied.

If you’ve been struggling to buy something for a music lover on your holiday list, new vinyl is always a great and welcome gift. Who doesn’t want to add new albums to their collection? Be sure to take advantage of this deal now, as the most popular albums tend to sell out. As a person who spends far too much of her time analyzing music and its history, I’ve curated a list of a few of my personal favorites, all of which are three for the price of two right now.

Black Friday Vinyl Sale at Amazon - My Top Picks

When I say it was difficult to narrow down my favorite vinyls that are a part of this three-for-two deal, I mean it. This is Amazon’s best selection yet for this occasional sale. Every single one of my top artists had at least one album available for this awesome discount. So, beyond my personal recs, I’d recommend you explore Amazon’s vinyl sale on your own. There are seemingly endless options, including some epic movie soundtracks.

Of course, there are plenty of iconic albums that everyone needs in their collection. The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Carole King’s Tapestry display true mastery of songwriting. For no skip albums, Billy Joel’s The Stranger or Crosby, Stills and Nash’s debut can’t be beat. And if you want to slow things down and relax a little, Kind of Blue from Miles Davis has the consensus of being the best jazz album of all time.

Jumping to albums from this millennium, one of my favorite musicians and albums of all time, John Mayer’s Born and Raised, is a part of this promotion. It was co-produced with Mayer and Don Was and features a folky, Americana vibe. If you're an emo millennial after some nostalgia, grab My Chemical Romance’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, which features the hit “I'm Not Okay (I Promise).” Or if you’ve spent too much time on TikTok, like me, and now know every song from Taylor Swift’s newest album, The Life of a Showgirl, you can add it to your cart and enjoy the promo deal. The vinyl even features a fun, sparkly orange color.

Sometimes it takes a tragedy to rediscover an artist, and that’s the case with multifaceted, wildly talented, and innovative D’Angelo, who we just lost in October. His album with Vanguard, Black Messiah, is a must listen. Another artist gone way too soon is Jeff Buckley, and his seminal album Grace is also part of the three-for-two vinyl deal.

Movie soundtracks are also included

Far Cry Getting TV Adaptation From Rob Mac and Alien Earth Creator Noah Hawley

25 novembre 2025 à 00:15

Far Cry is taking its special brand of mayhem to FX and streaming service Hulu with a new series based on the games. Alien Earth's Noah Hawley is producing with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Rob Mac starring and producing.

“What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is it’s an anthology. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a theme,” said Hawley.

“To create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens is a dream come true. I’m excited to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen.”

The plan is for each season of the show to take on a new setting, similar to the games with Mac in the starring role. Details on the release date or content are still under wraps, but the games have given us everything from Montana, USA to the Himalayas and cults, insane dictators and pirates, so there's plenty to work with.

"Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized," added Mac, who also worked with Ubisoft on Apple's Mythic Quest, where he played a game developer.

"Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support."

Best TV for Gaming in 2025

25 novembre 2025 à 00:05

The inclusion of 120Hz VRR support in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S has been a major boon for buyers of gaming TVs. At the tail end of 2025, fierce manufacturer competition has bestowed upon us an amazing selection of high performance, reasonably priced televisions that are (or nearly) at parity with some of the best PC gaming monitors. Refresh rates are higher, response times are faster (and better tuned!), input lag is the lowest it's ever been, all while HDR performance continues to get brighter and punchier. But, of course, a few displays stand out from the rest. We've tested and measured some of the top televisions from this year and we're ready to recommend our favorites.

Here's what we look for in a top-performing gaming TV:

High refresh rates, at or above 120Hz with VRR

  • Faster refresh rates reduce sample-and-hold motion blur, lower input lag, and make gaming smoother, more immersive, and more responsive. All our recommended TVs ship with at least 120Hz, but faster modes like 144Hz and 165Hz are great for PC gamers as well.
  • VRR, or Variable Refresh Rate, allows the display to dynamically change its refresh rate to match the game’s frame rate, removing the distracting screen tearing, judder, and lag associated with traditional V-Sync behavior.

Fast pixel response times

  • Fast pixel response times go hand-in-hand with higher refresh rates to reduce motion blur, ghosting, and smearing. OLED, with near instant transitions, is still king in this area. LCD response times (QLED, QNED, Mini-LED, VA, etc.) are generally slower, especially with dark content.

Gaming modes with low input lag

  • The best gaming displays will have input lag below 10ms in their game modes, ideally around 1ms. Whether you’re trying to nail a frame-perfect jump in Mario Bros. or a flick shot in Battlefield 6, lower latencies dramatically increase the feeling of connectedness and the precision of your button presses or mouse movements.
  • Using game mode to get the benefits of low lag shouldn’t otherwise compromise the performance of the TV; we expect the same calibration, contrast, brightness, and HDR performance in games as we get in movies.

Colorful, bright, high contrast, brilliant HDR

  • Deep, vibrant colors demand advanced backlights or quantum dot technology. All our recommended TVs have nearly full coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.
  • Sustained fullscreen brightness is important for daytime viewing conditions or games with a lot of bright locations. OLED has definitely improved in this area in recent years, but it still falls far behind its LCD competition.
  • Punchy, defined, hyper-bright highlights are the real differentiators between SDR and HDR, and they make the HDR viewing experience, whether in games or movies, really come alive. OLED’s ability to adjust brightness at a per-pixel level means it usually takes top spot here. LCD competitors need hundreds or thousands of backlight zones to achieve a similar, slightly diminished effect, but they can get substantially brighter.

TL;DR – These Are the Best Gaming TVs:

1. Samsung S90F

The Best Gaming TV

With 2025’s S90F, Samsung has finally brought together the best aspects of high-end televisions and the fastest PC gaming displays into one end-game package. It was close last year with the S90D (which was also a very good gaming TV), but the improvements Samsung has made to fullscreen brightness and HDR highlights push the S90F to the top tier of our recommendations, and make gaming on the S90F a fantastic experience, now viable even if you’re not living in a cave. Just make sure to get the 65-inch version, which uses Samsung's QD-OLED technology; other sizes use an inferior WOLED panel.

Gaming on the S90F is as good as or better than most PC monitors. With a 144Hz refresh rate and full VRR support, gaming is clear, fluid, and judder-free no matter if you’re playing at 60 fps or 120 or anywhere in between. As I noted in my review, playing Doom: The Dark Ages on the S90F, with near-instant pixel response times and incredibly low input lag, was an absolute treat. TestUFO pursuit shots (at a very fast 1,920 pixels/sec) back this up, showing only pure sample-and-hold blur without any smearing or trailing. And happily, Samsung's Game mode doesn't compromise the picture quality, so HDR EOTF tracking and calibration are still top-notch.

Speaking of the EOTF, on a 2% white slide, representative of a typical HDR highlight, my measurements confirm that the S90F tracks HDR target luminance nearly perfectly, with only a slight deviation in the darkest shades, below 1 nit. Samsung is a bit more conservative with brightness in game mode than in its movie modes, but peak brightness still reaches around 1,200 nits on real content – still incredibly punchy, especially with OLED’s extreme local contrast.

The S90F does almost as well on a 10% slide, meaning that Samsung can maintain very good output over a decent portion of the screen. But brightness falls as the window size increases: At 100% fullscreen white, the S90F can only eek out 250 nits, too dim for bright room gaming.

LCD competitors like the Hisense U8QG or TCL QM8K can pip the S90F in absolute luminance output, but their response times are simply too slow to keep up, and their viewing angles are much worse than OLED. For gamers who have the ability to control the lighting in their rooms, the S90F OLED means there’s no going back to LCD.

At launch, the S90F's $2,500 asking price was too high, but patience (and healthy competition) pays: The S90F can now be found for $1,500, and at that price, it's an easy win for gamers.

2. LG G5 OLED

Best Money-No-Object Gaming TV

Because of its tremendous performance/cost ratio, Samsung’s S90F earns our top spot for best overall gaming TV, but for those that have the additional budget to spring for a flagship product, both Samsung and LG are offering 2025 models (the S95F and G5) that push SDR/HDR brightness to new levels, improve reflection handling, and offer higher refresh rates. With end-of-year sales, they manage this without the luxury tax/diminishing returns price hike that normally comes with halo products.

In fact, a case could be made that LG, in particular, is tilting value towards the high end: Fullscreen brightness, a major area of weakness for previous gen and lower tier OLEDs, has been ramped nearly 80%, but the price premium for over the tier-down C5 is only around 40%. Case in point: The C5 gets you 220 nits fullscreen. The G5 gets you nearly 400.

We loved the 2,000+ nit highlights in our review, which we consider essential at this price tier, but LG has done a great job of balancing these with the drastically improved 100% APL, a huge year-on-year improvement over the G4 (one of our favorites from last year). This brightness boost also comes with an improvement to color purity as well; we measured 91.5% of the DCI-P3 color space, an excellent result for a WOLED panel. While LG is being tight-lipped about how exactly they achieved this, Panasonic's announcement of their Z95B, using the same panel as the G5, revealed the tech as Primary RGB Tandem, which allows the G5 to inch closer to Samsung's RGB QD-OLED performance.

Picture quality is everything we've come to expect from OLED panels: perfect blacks, incredible contrast that even multi-thousand zone FALD backlights can't achieve without blooming, and spectacular off-angle viewing. And this performance extends to LG's "Game Optimizer" mode as well: instant response times, native 165Hz refresh rate with VRR, low latency with ALLM, plus a ton of useful options for tweaking shadow and highlight balance. For gaming, even in fast-paced shooters like Apex Legends, the G5 is as good as it gets.

For downsides, our biggest issue with the G5 didn't have anything to do with its picture quality; the problem is LG's WebOS. Cluttered, slow, and difficult to navigate, LG's UI seems to be regressing from previous years, spurred on by their need to AI-ify everything. We've even lost the input selection button on the remote in favor of an AI button, a decision which is baffling.

But if you can get past the clunky menus (which is something unfortunately shared by Samsung as well), the G5 is the top-tier gaming TV of 2025. Whether you’re playing games or watching movies, SDR or HDR, basement cave or bright living room, the G5 delivers an awesome experience.

Why the G5 over the S95F? The LG is $300 cheaper and both perform nearly the same. Save the cash and enjoy.

3. Hisense U8QG

Best Gaming TV for Bright Rooms

The choice in this category was a very, very close contest between two LCD sets: TCL’s QM8K and the Hisense U8QG. We were hugely impressed with both the TCL and the Hisense, and it seems that the two companies are in lock-step, both pushing the boundary of what’s possible with FALD backlit LCD technology. We’re now getting more and more dimming zones, absurd brightness, and ever-increasing refresh rates. But for the best bright room gaming experience, we recommend the Hisense U8QG.

While the U8QG can hit 4,000 nits in highly specific cases, a better, more realistic metric for showcasing its brightness performance is to look at where its EOTF curve tops out with a 2% window size compared with 100% fullscreen white. The U8QG can reach more than 1,300 nits for highlights, but impressively, its fullscreen luminance only drops to 780 nits, which is still massively bright. That capacity to deliver mega fullscreen nits combined with an excellent AR coating means that the U8QG is a truly impressive bright room performer.

An OLED, like our top pick – the Samsung S90F – can go toe-to-toe with the U8QG at a 2% window size, but it takes a massive hit for fullscreen white, down to 250 nits, less than a third of what the Hisense can do.

Color performance stays excellent as well – bright, deep, vivid, and nearly full coverage of the DCI-P3 color space – enabled by the U8QG’s quantum dot enhanced backlight. Just don’t get too far off center or the viewing experience starts to suffer. TCL’s QM8K is similar in this regard, but it has fewer backlight zones, is slightly dimmer, and doesn’t have the same quality anti-reflective coating, which is why our nod goes to the U8QG.

Gaming/motion performance on the U8QG is good but not stellar. It supports 165Hz (+VRR) at 4K resolution on all its HDMI ports, and it even has an enhanced 288Hz mode at QHD for PC gamers, but its pixel response times aren’t in league with OLEDs or IPS gaming monitors. My response time measurements bear this out: an average of 20ms, but with some transitions lingering for around 30. Pursuit shots of the TestUFO alien give an accurate visual of what you can expect; objects have too much blur and dark colors show significant trailing.

While the Hisense U8QG doesn’t match OLED competitors like the Samsung S90F or LG C5 for motion clarity or viewing angles, its great fullscreen brightness and effective AR coating make it a sensible choice and the current go-to LCD to beat for gaming in bright rooms.

4. TCL QM7K

Best Mid-Range Gaming TV

This category sees another very close competition between the two mid-range titans: the TCL QM7K and the Hisense U75QG. You really can’t go wrong with either; both offer full array local dimming, quantum dot backlights (or KSF phosphors in the case of the U75QG) for great DCI-P3 color space coverage, and 144Hz+ high refresh rates with VRR for gaming. But because TCL tuned its HVA panel to the as-good-as-it-gets level for LCD, the QM7K tops our list for best mid-range gaming TV.

The Hisense can get significantly brighter, has more dimming zones, and is the better choice for movies and television, but it’s let down by its motion performance. While the U75QG boasts a slightly higher max refresh rate of 165Hz, its response times simply aren’t good enough to beat the 144Hz mode on the TCL, which is excellent for both console and PC gaming.

But in our review, we weren’t just impressed with the gaming performance: TCL has done an excellent job reducing blooming and haloing with its local dimming algorithm, and with support for both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, the QM7K will work with any content, whether that’s streaming movies or the latest HDR games.

If you want the best gaming TV under $1,000, the QM7K is the logical choice.

5. TCL QM6K

Best Budget Gaming TV

All candidates for our best budget gaming TV award had to meet three specific requirements:

  1. Full array local dimming
  2. Quantum dot or other enhanced backlight
  3. 120Hz + refresh rate with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support

There are a lot of decent televisions out there that meet some of these criteria, but we contend that, in 2025, great HDR gaming requires all three. Edge-lit TVs can’t show the stark local contrast that makes HDR content pop, and they suffer from serious blooming, especially off-angle. Standard LED backlights also fall well short of covering the DCI-P3 color space, leaving colors dull and lifeless. And with modern gaming consoles fully supporting 120Hz “performance” modes with VRR, a fixed 60Hz refresh rate means the gaming experience is tarnished with the tearing and judder associated with typical V-Sync behavior.

In our review, we were very impressed with the QM6K. That sentiment still stands, making the QM6K our definitive pick for best budget gaming TV. Especially impressive was its ability to handle HDR highlights without significant blooming or haloing, given its limited zone count. Color performance is also excellent, helped by the KSF phosphor in its backlight. For watching movies and playing games, we also found off-angle viewing to be great, with limited loss of contrast and color saturation even well off-center.

TCL also has a knack for finely tuning the response time performance of their HVA panels: The QM6K has excellent response times and presents a smooth and judder-free gaming experience at any framerate thanks to its 144Hz max refresh rate and support for VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro, and ALLM. Two full-speed HDMI 2.1 ports allow simultaneous connections for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, leaving the other HDMI ports available for lower refresh rate devices.

Below $650, though, concessions have to be made. Fullscreen brightness isn’t particularly good. This is not a TV that will “wow” you with bright highlights. This isn’t helped by TCL’s decision to use a glossy screen coating with no real anti-reflective treatment. If your primary viewing environment is brightly lit, the QM6K might not give the pop you’re looking for. We also found the Google TV interface slow and laggy.

Still, TCL has somehow delivered a very respectable performer with the QM6K, making it our top pick for best budget gaming TV.

Gaming TV FAQ

What kind of TV do I need for PS5?

Most modern TVs will work with the PS5, but to take full advantage of all the console has on offer (including being one of the best Blu-ray players), you may want to spend a little extra for better specs and more features. The PS5 can output a 120Hz refresh rate in 4K through HDMI 2.1, while some games also support VRR and ALLM, ensuring smoother and more enjoyable gameplay. The best TVs for PS5 will offer those specs.

What are the disadvantages of gaming TVs?

Gaming TVs are great for consoles, providing speedy refresh rates, VRR, and game modes to ensure an enjoyable playing experience, but that doesn't mean they're not also great for watching movies or streaming TV shows. These days, the best TVs come with gaming features, whether they're marketed as gaming TVs or not, so you can rest assured that if a TV is good for gaming, it's good for everything else too.

Is a gaming monitor or TV better?

Choosing a display to game on depends on personal preference and how you want to play. The best gaming monitors have an edge when it comes to responsiveness, sporting even higher refresh rates than the best TVs, as well as lower input lag and other advanced display features. Of course, monitors are often smaller in size, more adjustable, and live on a gaming desk. TVs are meant for couch gaming and tend to pull ahead in image quality and HDR performance. We discuss gaming monitors vs TVs here.

When is the best time to buy a TV?

TVs go on sale throughout the year. But some key times are Black Friday, before the Super Bowl, and Prime Day. Outside of that, many manufacturers churn out new TV models in the spring, so you can score deals on older offerings. Check out the best time to buy a TV guide for more info.

What's better than three movies for the price of two? How about nine movies for the price of six? Amazon's buy 2, get 1 free deal on 4K Blu-rays for Black Friday also extends to film trilogy collections – and there quite a few to pick from. While these bundles are a great way to save and jumpstart a big collection of great movies, most of these are on sale individually, too.

Buy 2, Get 1 4K Movie Trilogies at Amazon

The available genres to pick from for this Black Friday deal ensures there's truly something for everyone. A personal favorite of mine, the Back to the Future Trilogy 4K Blu-ray set comes with tons of special features sci-fi movie fans will love. Horror fans can pick up the three US-made Ring films in The Ring Collection (with some sweet box art to boot), as well as the newer Halloween trilogy that began in 2018 and, despite being super fun, has one of the most hilariously bad lines in the franchise’s history. Finally, right in time for the winter holidays, you can get stop-motion classics Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, all in 4K.

More Movie Trilogies On Sale

Beyond its buy 2, get 1 free deal, Amazon has put a much wider variety of movie trilogies on sale all on their own. Either way, it's a great time to pick up some classics on the cheap.

Amazon's Black Friday sale has been a real treat so far, especially when it comes to video games. Not only has the retailer been offering some incredible discounts on individual games, but it's even dropping the price on a few different bundles. The retailer's own 'No Console Required' Xbox bundle - which allows you to play Xbox games via cloud streaming through an Amazon Fire Stick - has dropped almost 50% in price during Black Friday sales.

In particular, the bundle that comes with the red Pulse Cipher Special Edition Xbox controller, a Fire TV Stick 4K, and one month of Game Pass Ultimate is 48% off at the retailer (see it here). This has brought its bundle price down from $149.97 to $77.97, and marks its lowest price ever, per Amazon's store page. Considering the list price of the Pulse Cipher controller on its own is $79.99, this is a bundle deal well worth taking advantage of while it's available.

Amazon Is Slashing Prices on Nintendo Hallmark Ornaments Before Black Friday

24 novembre 2025 à 21:41

As part of its Black Friday sale, Amazon is offering four Nintendo-themed Hallmark Christmas tree ornaments at new discounted prices. These are available as Amazon Lightning Deals, so the discount is only live while supplies last. If you're not a big Nintendo fan but want a fun ornament for the holidays, Hallmark has tons of other themed ornaments to pick from included in this sale. You can also check out the full Nintendo Black Friday sale, which has already gone live as well.

Hallmark Nintendo Ornaments on Sale at Amazon

The available ornaments on sale are Mario with a Super Mushroom, Yoshi, Toad, and Pikachu hanging out on a Poké Ball. All of these ornaments are around 2.5in. to 3in. tall and are made from plastic, so they won't take up too much space on the tree or be difficult to store in the off season. Since they're all officially licensed by Nintendo, you can expect the same kind of quality and care with these ornaments as you would any other Nintendo products.

These four ornaments are the only ones part of Hallmark's Black Friday flash deals, but they have dozens of other video game-themed ornaments you can pick from. The Legend of Zelda franchise is represented by seven awesome detailed ornaments, and there are various other Nintendo and Xbox properties in ornament form as well. They may not all be on sale, but they're great to be aware of with the Winter holidays right around the corner.

This Is the Only Way to Get a Nintendo Switch 2 Discount for Black Friday This Year

24 novembre 2025 à 21:35

The official Nintendo Switch Black Friday deals have gone live and, not surprisingly, there are no advertised discounts on the Nintendo Switch 2 console. That means there are really only two ways you'll be able to get one at considerably lower than retail price: buying a used one off a marketplace or getting an import model. AliExpress is offering a Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World console bundle for just $435.87 (normally $500) after you apply a $100 off coupon code "AEUS100" during checkout. It ships free locally from the United States (which means no tariffs and no obnoxiously long wait times).

The listing is for a Hong Kong import. Fortunately, all international Switch 2 consoles are region unlocked, so they be used in the US without any modification. You'll also be able to select English as your default language. This specific model will come with a Hong Kong style plug, but a US adapter is included. Imported consoles do not get a US-based Nintendo warranty. Fortunately, Aliexpress offers a generous 90-day free return window.

Nintendo Switch 2 (Import) with Mario Kart World for $436

The Switch 2 console was released on June 5. It is backwards compatible with nearly all Switch 2 games as well as the original Joy-Cons and Switch Pro controller, although the new Switch 2 controllers offer more functionality. In his Nintendo Switch 2 review, Tom Marks sums up the Switch 2 as "a vital but unexciting upgrade to a console I already love."

Four major Switch 2 video games have been released: Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and now Kirby Air Riders. Logan Plant reviewed Mario Kart World and wrote that "Mario Kart World may not make the most convincing case that going open-world was the boost the series needed, but excellent multiplayer racing, incredible polish, and the thrilling new Knockout Tour mode still more than live up to its legacy." Mario Kart World currently sells for $79.

Not only did we rate Donkey Kong a 10/10, it's the only game we've given a Masterpiece rating so far this year. In his Donkey Kong Bananza review, Logan Plant writes that "The leader of the bunch is finally back to kick some tail in Donkey Kong Bananza, a brilliant successor to Super Mario Odyssey and a smashing return for a classic Nintendo character."

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the latest first party release and although it's also available for the original Switch, it's clearly Switch 2 optimized. In her Pokemon Legends: Z-A review, Rebekah Valentine wrote that "Pokemon Legends: Z-A finally feels like Game Freak hitting its stride in Pokemon’s 3D era, with a fun setting to explore, a well-written story, and a total battle system overhaul that works surprisingly well."

Kirby Air Riders Is Out Now

Every Sonic the Hedgehog Game on Sale for Black Friday 2025

24 novembre 2025 à 21:01

We’ve officially entered the week of Black Friday. Pretty much every retailer under the sun has already unleashed a whole bunch of deals, so there’s no reason to wait to do your holiday shopping. If you or someone on your list is into Sonic the Hedgehog video games, you’re in luck: a bunch of them are on sale across the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox. Here’s a rundown of every Sonic game that’s already on sale for Black Friday 2025.

Sonic Games - Black Friday Deals

There’s no shortage of Sonic game deals for Black Friday. Here’s the full list.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

The newest game on the list is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (Amazon), a kart racer with enough speed and new ideas that many think is actually better than Mario Kart World. In her review, Jada Griffin wrote, “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds fires on all cylinders with a fantastic roster of 24 of my favorite hedgehogs, foxes, echidnas, and more. The lineup of 24 main tracks and 15 Crossworld tracks is the best designed selection we've ever gotten in any Sonic racing game, and there is a generationally great soundtrack to accompany them. The racing itself feels fast, fantastic, and intuitive, with lots of options to tweak your stats to your preferred playstyle.”

Sonic Superstars

If price is your main consideration, you can’t beat Sonic Superstars, a throwback side-scrolling platformer you can pick up for less than $10 at Amazon. That’s a killer deal on a game about which the very same Jada Griffin, in her review, said, “Most Sonic games put the pedal to the metal, having you travel at blindingly fast speeds while avoiding hazards on your way to the goal. Unlike its predecessors, however, Sonic Superstars trades that traditional breakneck pace for new abilities, more exploration, multiple mini-games, and slightly more challenging bosses. Most of that stylistic shift works well for the majority of Superstars’ roughly 15-hour multi-campaign story.”

Sonic X Shadow Generations

In addition to those, you can pick up the excellent 2024 game Sonic X Shadow Generations for the new all-time low price of $24.99 at Amazon. That’s for all consoles, including Switch 2. This game is comprised of two parts. One is a remake of the 2011 game Sonic Generations, and the other is a brand-new Shadow-centered addition. It adds up to a killer package we gave 9/10 in our review.

Sonic is far from the only game series getting Black Friday discounts. Tons of other PS5, Xbox, and Switch games, consoles, and accessories have gotten discounts. Or you can check out the Black Friday sales at Amazon, Best Buy, or Target. And remember, this is only the beginning of the Black Friday season. More deals will go live on the day itself, November 28, and even more on Cyber Monday, which lands on December 1.

Alienware Has the Lowest Price on an RTX 5080 Gaming PC for Black Friday, Starting at Just $1,815

24 novembre 2025 à 20:45

Believe it or not, Alienware actually has the lowest price on an RTX 5080 equipped gaming PC for Black Friday, and it's not even close. You can pick up a complete system with Intel Core Ultra 7 CPU starting at just $1,815. Alternatively, upgraded models with a more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and more memory and storage capacity are available with deep discounts. Alienware normally commands a higher price point, but this Black Friday deal totally flips the script.

Alienware Aurora RTX 5080 Gaming PC From $1,815

This base configuration is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 2TB SSD. You can upgrade to 32GB of RAM for an extra $100. The processor is cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooling solution and the entire system is powered by a robust 1,000W 80+ Platinum rated power supply.

Alternatively, for an extra $485, you can upgrade to a more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor and double the memory. For an extra $685 you can the CPU upgrade and quadruple the memory.

The GeForce RTX 5080 GPU will run any game in 4K

Performance-wise, the RTX 5080 is no slouch. It's one of the fastest cards on the market, bested only by the $2,000 RTX 5090 and the discontinued $1,600 RTX 4090. This is a phenomenal card for playing the latest, most demanding games in 4K resolution at high settings and ray tracing enabled. The RTX 5080 supports DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation, which means you can push even more frames out of games that support the technology with minimal visual compromise. Recent games that support it include Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Borderlands 4, Stellar Blade, and Battlefield 6. Check out our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review for our hands-on impressions.

How IT: Welcome to Derry Connects to the Stephen King Multiverse

24 novembre 2025 à 20:11

Warning: This article contains spoilers for IT: Welcome to Derry Episodes 1-5!

Fans of Stephen King’s novels will know that these tales of small-town terror and tortured souls aren’t simply standalone stories. They’re all part of a larger storytelling multiverse, and crossovers can and do frequently happen. That’s certainly true for IT: Welcome to Derry – not only is this series a prequel to the It movies, it also includes nods to other King characters and storylines.

With the first two episodes having premiered on HBO Max, we figured now is a great time to break down the key Stephen King easter eggs in Welcome to Derry and explore how the series is taking advantage of the King multiverse. Keep checking back, as we’ll update this piece as more episodes air.

What Is Bill Skarsgård’s Villain Pennywise?

With Welcome to Derry taking place 27 years before the events of 2017’s It, it should come as no surprise that there aren’t many returning actors for this prequel. In fact, the only confirmed veteran of the series is Bill Skarsgård, who is once again playing the demonic, shapeshifting villain, It (whose favorite form is Pennywise the Dancing Clown). We don’t actually see Skarsgård's Pennywise until Episode 5, but the character’s nefarious influence is certainly felt throughout the season. If there’s any takeaway from the series, it’s that Derry was a cursed place long before the Losers Club clashed with Pennywise for the first time.

With Pennywise being such an important part of the series, it’s worth taking a step back to explore what exactly this character is and how he fits into King’s monster multiverse. The It novel establishes that It is an alien entity created in the void outside the universe. It eventually crashed on Earth via an asteroid millions of years ago, at which point it took up residence in the area that would become Derry, Maine. We see this origin story play out during Episode 4's flashback sequence.

Ever since people began to settle in Derry, It has shown a pattern of emerging for a year or two to seek victims and feast on their fear; it is essentially a psychic vampire. After gorging itself, It then goes into hibernation for 27 years before reawakening and starting the cycle all over again. It tends to target children because their fears are more primal and easier to exploit.

It/Pennywise is easily one of the most terrifying creatures in King’s massive library, but it’s not necessarily unique. King’s Dark Tower novels establish that the multiverse was once bathed in a mystical energy source called the Prim. When the Prim receded like an ocean tide, it left behind a great many supernatural creatures embedded in the worlds of creation; Pennywise is just one of many of those monsters. One of the Dark Tower books even introduces a cousin of sorts – a similar psychic vampire who feeds on laughter rather than fear.

The Hanlon Family

Welcome to Derry may not feature many returning characters, but it does feature one family that should be very familiar to fans of the films. The first episode introduces Jovan Adepo’s Leroy Hanlon; Leroy is the grandfather of Mike Hanlon, who was played in the films as a child by Chosen Jacobs and as an adult by Isaiah Mustafa.

Welcome to Derry shows us how the Hanlon family first came to settle in Derry in 1962. Leroy is a decorated and well-respected Air Force major who is recruited by General Shaw (James Remar) to work on a top-secret program. Little by little, Leroy is becoming exposed to the darkness lurking beneath the idyllic facade of Derry and the racism still rampant in the ranks of the military. In Episode 2, Leroy learns that Shaw is working to harness a weapon that can instill absolute fear in America's enemies. Apparently, Shaw wants to weaponize It.

Episode 2 introduces Taylour Paige as Leroy’s wife, Charlotte, and Blake Cameron James as his son, Will, neither of whom seem particularly enamored with their new home. But however bad things get this season, it’s not going to drive this family out of Derry.

The Shining’s Dick Hallorann

Welcome to Derry is going to draw on more than just the It movies and novel; that much has been apparent ever since an earlier trailer included a shot of a Shawshank Prison bus. But in what is easily the most significant King easter egg so far, the series’ cast includes a major character from The Shining: Dick Hallorann (Chris Chalk).

Fans of The Shining and its sequel, Doctor Sleep, will remember that Dick is the head chef at the Overlook Hotel in Colorado. Because he has the psychic aptitude known as “the shine,” Dick is more sensitive than most to the many ghosts haunting the Overlook’s halls. Dick becomes rightfully concerned when he senses that young Danny Torrance, the son of winter caretaker Jack Torrance, shines especially brightly, and is therefore a ripe target for those ghosts. Eventually, Dick is forced to brave the harsh Colorado winter in order to rescue Danny and his mother from the hotel’s wrath.

Welcome to Derry takes place nearly two decades before The Shining; at this stage, Dick is serving on the same Derry air force base as Leroy Hanlon. We only catch a brief glimpse of Dick in Episode 1, but he seems intently interested in Leroy, as if he can sense something is supernaturally amiss with the major.

Episode 2 provides more context for Dick's presence in Derry and his interest in Leroy. Dick is using his psychic abilities to help the Air Force dig up and harness the slumbering It. Dick seems to sense that Leroy is special in his own way. A bullet to his brain has robbed Leroy of the ability to feel fear, which may make him the only person capable of standing up to It. And by Episode 4, Leroy is starting to come to terms with the fact that Dick truly does have supernatural abilities.

We fully expect Dick to play a central role in battling It in this series. Just as at the Overlook, Dick’s powers will make him more aware than most adults of the danger lurking underneath the town. It may even target Dick specifically, hoping to draw extra sustenance from his psychic abilities, much like the vampires in Doctor Sleep.

That's basically what happens in Episode 5, when It singles out Dick in the sewers and preys on his fear of his late grandfather. As established in Doctor Sleep, Dick had a loving relationship with his grandmother, who shared his shine ability, but he lived in constant terror of his "Black Grandpa," a monstrously cruel and vindictive man. Dick developed a technique of shutting away his fears inside metaphysical lockboxes in his mind. Here, Dick is forced by the spectre of Black Grandpa to open his lockbox, freeing some sort of evil in the bowels of Derry.

Click here to learn more about Episode 5 connects to Doctor Sleep.

The Shining's Calumet Baking Powder

Episode 2 incldues another fun The Shining Easter egg, as we see a stack of Calumet Baking Powder cans in the grocery store, all displaying that iconic logo of an Indian chief. These cans were also seen in Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of The Shining, part of the Overlook Hotel's extensive larder.

The exact significance of the cans and the Indian logo has been the source of much debate over the years, with some arguing (like in the documentary Room 237) that Kubrick was trying to include subtle commentary about American imperialism and the genocide of Native Americans. The Indian chief image may also speak to the ancient history of the supernatural terrors in this world. Again, It has been in Derry for a very long time.

Juniper Hill Asylum

Episode 2 also introduces another iconic King landmark in Juniper Hill Asylum. We learn that Susie (Matilda Legault) was previously committed there after the death of her father, and she's forced to return at the end of the episode after suffering through another of It's terrifying hallucinations. That means we'll surely see inside its dark halls as the season unfolds.

Juniper Hill appears in the original IT novel as well as numerous other King works, from Insomnia to Needful Things to The Dark Half. It's a place every bit as twisted as you'd expect from a mental institution in Stephen King's multiverse.

Shawshank State Prison

Alongside Juniper Hill, the series is also introducing another very recognizable facility in the form of Shawshank State Prison. The wrongfully imprisoned Hank Grogan (Stephen Rider) looks doomed to be imprisoned there, even as Charlotte fights to clear his name.

Shawshank was most famously featured in King's 1982 novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption," which was later adapted into the 1994 movie The Shawshank Redemption. Both versions of the story follow the pliught of Andy Dufresne, a man imprisoned for decades at the hellish prison after being convicted of murdering his wife. Shashank was also heavily featured in Castle Rock, another series notable for bringing together pieces of the King multiverse.

Project Arrowhead

Episode 4 features a quick shot of a building called the Arrowhead Motel. This may be a reference to the Arrowhead Project, a top-secret government program referenced in King books like The Mist. There, the Arrowhead Project is aimed at creating an interdimensional window allowing the military to peer into other realities. Obviously, General Shaw and his men have a very different goal in mind in Welcome to Derry, but the general theme of the military tampering with otherworldly forces remains in play.

The Real Mrs. Kersh

In Episode 5 we learn a lot more about Madeline Stowe's character, Ingrid Kersh, including that she's the secret lover of Stephen Rider's Hank Grogan. The simple fact that her last name is Kersh is definitely intriguing. That's the name of the old woman who lives in Bev's childhood home in IT: Chapter Two. That woman turns out to be nothing more than another manifestation of It. But it would seem that, at one point, she was a real person, and she did her best to help the children affected by It's evil.

The Importance of the Turtle

Welcome to Derry’s first episode includes another important, albeit more subtle, easter egg in the form of a charm on Susie’s bracelet – a turtle, a creature with deep significance in King lore. We see another turtle reference in Episode 4, when the Indian tribe buries one of the pieces of the meteorite inside a turtle shell.

Getting back to It’s cosmic origins, this demon was created at the same time as a benevolent turtle entity; the Turtle is It’s polar opposite and a sign of strength to the members of the Losers Club. The Turtle is also one of the 12 animals featured in the Dark Tower books who guard “The Beams,” invisible energy forces that lead directly to the titular tower at the center of existence.

We’d expect to see multiple turtle references in this series, all meant to serve as reminders that there are other forces at work in Derry beyond It/Pennywise…and not all of them are so sinister.

The 12 Pillars

Episode 4 reveals a lot about the history of It in Derry and how this demonic entity was clashing with the local Native American tribe long before white settlers came to the area. We even learn that the tribe has a legend about the heroic warrior who imprisoned It centuries ago. According to the story, the tribe buried 13 pieces of the meteorite that originally carried It to Earth. 12 of these pieces form a ring around It's woodland territory, while the 13th is located at the center of the ring. As long as that circle remains unbroken, It's evil is contained to the Derry area.

This circular structure is almost definitely meant to be a reference to King's Dark Tower novels. In Mid-World, the place where heroic gunslinger Roland Deschain carries out his long quest to find the titular tower, there are 12 portals forming a great ring around the planet. The beams mentioned above start at these portals and move inward, converging on the Dark Tower in the center. Each of the 12 portals is protected by a Guardian of the Beam, like Maturin the Turtle and Shardik the Bear. It's prison is clearly mimicking the structure of the Dark Tower itself.

We probably won't see any more overt references to the Dark Tower books than this, as Warner Bros. doesn't hold the rights to those stories. Instead, The Haunting of Hill House's Mike Flanagan is currently developing a Dark Tower TV series for Amazon. Still, it's a fun nod for hardcore King fans.

The Second Hand Rose

Episode 2 establishes a key throwback to 2019's IT: Chapter Two with the scene at the Second Hand Rose thrift shop. In the movie, that shop is run by Stephen King's character (that same character cameos as a younger man here), and it's where Bill Denbrough buys his beloved Schwinn bicycle. Back in 1962, it's where Leroy purchases a telescope for his son Will.

Like the turtle, the rose is an image with special significance in King's work, and it also ties back to the Dark Tower books and their central protagonist, Roland Deschain. The rose is a symbol of goodness and purity, though we definitely get a slightly creepy vibe from the shop in this series. If anything, we can't help but be reminded of Needful Things and its infamous shop of horrors.

On the other hand, the shop's current owner, Kimberly Norris Guerrero's Rose, has become a major focus of the series, and she seems to be one of the few genuinely good people in Derry. We'll see if Rose survives the entire season.

If you're not looking to wear them, they also make great home office or game room decor. As premium on-screen quality electronic helmets, each one is equipped with padding for adjustable fits and various lighting effects or voice changing capabilities. For example, the Scout Trooper helmet has a voice distortion option and Moff Gideon's Mandalorian helmet has a red light-up visor, making them feel pulled straight from the screen.

The helmets are pulled from Sequel-era properties like The Mandalorian, so fans of the classics may have to wait for Original Trilogy-themed helmets to drop, although there are a handful of Clone Wars-era helmets like Commander Cody (available December 9) to pick from. IT: Welcome to Derry - How The Shining and Doctor Sleep Set up the Latest Twist

24 novembre 2025 à 20:00

This article contains spoilers for IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 5 and Doctor Sleep.

The latest episode of HBO Max’s IT: Welcome to Derry revealed more about Dick Hallorann’s past, yet for fans of Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining, 2013’s Doctor Sleep, and Mike Flanagan’s 2019 movie adaptation of that book, what we saw was thrillingly familiar. The episode presented a skewed, IT-fueled version of information King had previously introduced about a special skill set available to some who possess the shining.

Dick Hallorann was first introduced in King’s novel The Shining in 1977 and Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film version as the infamous Overlook Hotel’s head cook. More importantly, he shared the same psychic abilities as young Danny Torrance, helping Danny to understand more about how his powers work and the “shining” name he used for them. Hallorann explained that when he was a child, he and his own grandmother were able to psychically communicate thanks to both of them sharing this trait.

Dick Hallorann’s Bogus Journey

Stephen King has always had most of his books take place in a shared universe, and Hallorann was included briefly in King’s IT in 1986; he appeared in one of that book’s flashback interludes, explaining what happened to Derry’s Black Spot nightclub. In Welcome to Derry, we’ve been following a younger Dick (Chris Chalk) who’s an airman stationed in Derry in 1962. In this week’s episode, Dick got separated from his troop while on a mission into the Derry sewers. After being pulled into the water, Dick surfaces in his own childhood bathroom, where he and his grandmother are terrorized by his grandfather, who bursts into the room carrying a locked box.

Dick is horrified that his grandfather has found this box, which his grandfather in turn demands to be opened. Communicating psychically, his grandmother warns him, “You know what’s in there boy. Don’t let him open it!” But as it turns out, not so dear-old Grandpa is able to open the box himself, his face contorting into a Pennywise-esque grin as Dick screams at whatever is being unleashed.

This is an especially exciting scene if you’re a fellow Doctor Sleep fan, because while most people associate Dick Hallorann with The Shining, he’s also a part of that story’s sequel, which is where all of this specific information about Dick’s backstory comes from. Dick’s role in both the Doctor Sleep book and film are very similar with a few deviations, most notably the biggie that Dick died at the end of The Shining movie but not in the book, so his appearances in the Doctor Sleep movie are entirely (friendly) ghost-based. But the crux of what occurs is the same, so for the purposes of clarity, I’m going to mainly stick to the Doctor Sleep movie here, partially because that excellent film is the superior version of the story.

A Lesson for Danny Torrance

Very early in Doctor Sleep, Dick (played in this version by Carl Lumbly) appears to young Danny (Roger Dale Floyd) in events set not long after Jack Torrance tried to kill Danny and his mother, Wendy, at the Overlook in Colorado. Dick knows that Danny, despite living in Florida now, continues to be haunted by the ghost of Lorraine Massey, the rotting and naked bathtub ghost from the Overlook. He explains that the evil spirits from the Overlook are following Danny because those with the shining are something of a beacon for malevolent forces to feast upon.

As Dick puts it, “The darkest things are the hungriest and they’ll eat what shines,” and Danny shines particularly bright. Having come into contact with Danny at the Overlook, these things don’t want to let him go. But Dick then informs Danny, “What you can do is turn what they come for against them.”

He tells Danny about his horribly abusive grandfather, and how even after he died, “He kept on coming back.” But, as Dick explains, his grandmother taught him a trick to combat this, and he presents Danny with a box. He tells Danny he wants him to study this box: “You’re gonna build one just like it in your mind. One even more special. So next time that bitch comes around, you’ll be ready.”

Danny takes this advice to heart, confronting Massey’s ghost in his home and trapping her within the psychic box he’s been able to manifest in his mind. And when Doctor Sleep then brings us forward in time to an adult Danny (now played by Ewan McGregor), we learn he continued to build box after box that he slowly but surely used to trap all of the Overlook ghosts as they came for him through the years, in what is almost his personal psychic version of the Ghostbusters’ traps and containment unit.

These psychic boxes prove to be crucial to the story in Doctor Sleep’s third act, as Danny confronts Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) back at the Overlook Hotel. Rose and her fellow members of the True Knot are also drawn to those with the shining, feeding on their energy like vampires. Danny comes to realize he might need to fight fire with fire, using what’s inside the boxes against Rose, since – in her own way – she shines as well. Danny obviously knows that opening the boxes is incredibly dangerous, but he’s in an extreme situation. Again, the specifics of this are different in the book, where the Overlook had burnt down already, but the basic ideas remain the same.

What Else Did Dick Hallorann Have Trapped?

Going back to Welcome to Derry, the only thing we knew from Doctor Sleep that Dick had locked up inside his own psychic box was the spirit of his grandfather. And while this first appears to then be that very same grandfather appearing in front of him demanding he open the box, it’s pretty clear this is actually IT, with “Grandfather’s” face laughing and distorting like Pennywise the Clown (complete with his eyes going in different directions) when he opens the box.

This would indicate that the actual spirit of his awful grandfather is likely now free. But his grandmother warned “They’re gonna get you” if the box was opened, which implies Grandpa wasn’t alone in there, and Dick had his own other encounters with additional spirits or dark forces that he locked up. Perhaps there aren’t as many as Danny had, thanks to the Overlook, but there are probably enough to be very bad news. And yeah, Dick didn’t mention this to Danny, but it also doesn’t feel like too much of a leap.

In the episode’s final scene, Dick wanders back out of the sewer, only to see his crewmate Pauly (Rudy Mancuso) standing before him. Pauly was shot and seemingly killed earlier in the episode, but now he looks zombie-like, stumbling about with dead eyes. We then cut back to the box in Dick’s mind, still open, insinuating IT may have just unleashed a whole other threat within Derry… perhaps tied to what’s happened to Pauly!?

In Conclusion, Doctor Sleep Rules

This is all a really exciting inclusion for Welcome to Derry, further connecting King’s ideas about how the shining works and how those with these abilities can hone them – which were deepened in major ways in Doctor Sleep – to this series. Beyond that, it’s also cool to see Doctor Sleep and the concepts it introduced have such significance here. It might not have the name value or popularity of The Shining, but it was a good book that was turned into a great movie. Mike Flanagan pulled off the magic trick of adapting King’s book and making a proper sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s movie – which King famously hated despite its acclaimed status – that delivered on all fronts and dealt with all the implicit contradictions, yet was simultaneously a compelling, creepy, and emotional story in its own right. Among constant Stephen King adaptations across TV and film, it stands out as an especially strong and impactful one.

This is a really exciting inclusion, further connecting King’s ideas about how the shining works to this series.

Chris Chalk and the producers of Welcome to Derry have acknowledged how the younger Dick Hallorann we’re seeing on the show is a much colder person than the warm mentor he would become to Danny Torrance in The Shining and Doctor Sleep. But this new turn of events is likely setting up how and why Dick will change his perspective. There’s nothing like being manipulated by an ancient evil being that feeds on children into freeing other dark spirits within your head to make you take stock of your life and inspire you to be a force for good, is there?

We’ll see what happens in this earlier timeline as IT: Welcome to Derry heads into the final three episodes of its first season. In the meantime, you should check out Doctor Sleep if you haven’t!

The Best Meta Quest Black Friday Deal Is Now Live (Get a Quest 3 VR Headset for Just $360)

24 novembre 2025 à 19:40

The best Meta Quest deal we'll probably see for Black Friday has just gone live. Starting today, the official Meta Store on eBay is offering the refurbished Meta Quest 3 512GB VR headset for just $359.99 after a 20% off coupon code "CYBERWEEK20". Better yet, it comes with an extended 2 year warranty supplied by Allstate. The Quest 3 normally retails for $500 new and is rarely discounted. I saw this deal once before during Amazon's October Prime Day and it was so popular that it sold out within a day. This is easily the best deal I've ever seen on the Meta Quest 3 and you should absolutely buy it now over waiting for another deal during Black Friday.

Refurb Meta Quest 3 for $359.99

Includes extended 2 year warranty

The Meta Quest 3 is the best standalone consumer-oriented VR headset and is a significant upgrade compared to its less expensive Quest 3S sibling. The two share the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, Touch Plus controllers with inside-out tracking, and mixed reality passthrough. However, the Quest 3 has a higher resolution, higher FOV display with a much wider focused sweet spot thanks to its superior pancake lens design. The Quest 3 also has much more onboard storage. For VR veterans who are sure to benefit from a better display, I would highly recommend the Quest 3 over the 3S. I own it myself (and I reviewed it for IGN) and have logged over a thousand hours in Beat Saber alone.

TL;DR:

  • Quest 3 has sharper resolution (2064x2208 vs 1832x1920)
  • Quest 3 has better lens array (pancake vs fresnel)
  • Quest 3 has lower FOV (104°/96° vs 96°/90°)
  • Quest 3 has higher storage capacity (512GB vs 128GB)
  • Same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor
  • Same Touch Plus controllers
  • Same 120Hz refresh rate
  • Same Mixed reality passthrough functionality
  • Same tetherless and tethered functionality

The Best Black Friday Deals Today: DualSense Controllers, Switch 2 and Memory Cards, AirPods Pro 3

24 novembre 2025 à 22:55

This is what deal hunters have been waiting for. Black Friday week is upon us and with it come the lowest prices of the year on video games and tech. This year merchants have kicked off their Black Friday sales a bit earlier, so there's already plenty of excellent deals to choose from. Here are some deals you don't want to miss out on.

Nintendo Switch 2 (Import) with Mario Kart World for $436

If you still haven't yet picked up a Nintendo Switch 2 because it's too expensive, there is an opportunity to get one at a discounted price. Note that the console is a Hong Kong import. All international Switch consoles are region unlocked, meaning they can be used in the US without any problems.

Nintendo Switch Games Starting at $29.99 at Best Buy

Black Friday is easily the best time of year to score some major discount on Nintendo Switch 2 video games. This time around, Best Buy is the one-stop shop for all of the lowest prices. Pick up must-buy titles like Super Mario Odyssey, Paper Mario, and Splatoon 3 at literally 50% off retail price.

PlayStation DualSense Limited Edition Controllers

Two coveted limited edition DualSense controllers are discounted for Black Friday at Walmart. The cute Astro Bot "Joyful" controller, featuring a blue and white two-tone color scheme with lively Astro Bot eyes on the touchpad, is down to $64 (normally $85). Alternatively, the Icon Blue controller, which is bursting with bright blue colors that are "Inspired by PlayStation’s storied heritage," is also on sale for $64 (normally $85) and sold exclusively at Walmart.

Samsung P9 512GB MicroSD Express Card

Nintendo Switch 2 owners have reason to rejoice because there's a new Black Friday deal on one of the most important accessories you can get for your console. Starting now, Amazon is offering the recently released Samsung P9 512GB MicroSD Express card for just $74.99 after a 25% off instant discount. The Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with MicroSD Express memory cards.

AirPods Pro 3 Wireless Noise Canceling Earbuds

The recently released AirPods Pro 3 is discounted for the first time ever since its launch. It normally retails for $249, but the Black Friday sale drops it to $219 on Amazon. The AirPods Pro 3 is a rather significant improvement over the 2nd gen AirPods Pro, including better audio quality, better noise cancelation, built-in heart rate sensing, long battery life, and a more weatherproof IP57 shell.

Complete Calvin and Hobbes Hardcover Book Set

The complete Calvin and Hobbes book set is the ultimate collector's item for any devoted fan of the comic series and it's back on sale just for Black Friday. Starting today, you can pick up the premium hardcover edition for just $86.15 after you clip a $43.07 off coupon. It normally "retails" for $225, although I usually see it for about $130-$150. Even if you don't need this yourself, it would make for an amazing and wholesome holiday gift for kids (or the young at heart).

Meta Quest 3S VR Headset

Prospective VR gamers alert, Amazon just kicked off its best Black Friday deals on the Meta Quest 3S VR headset. Not only do you save $50-$70 off in instant discounts ($249 for the 128GB model and $329 for the 256GB model), you now get a bonus $50 Amazon credit with either purchase. That's basically getting a Quest 3S headset for as low as $199, plus you get a free game. This is the best deal I've seen from Amazon this year on a Quest 3S headset with warranty.

Meta Quest 3 VR Headset (Refurb with 2 Year Warranty)

Lenovo Legion Go S Handheld Gaming PC

Best Buy's Black Friday Sale has officially kicked off with some great deals on gaming hardware. Possibly the very best deal I've found so far is on the Lenovo Legion Go S Z1 Exterme SteamOS handheld gaming PC, which has dropped to just $649.99 after a massive $250 instant discount. This is the lowest price I've seen by nearly $130. Note that this is the more powerful model with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip and it is easily one of the best Steam-based gaming handhelds currently available. It's essentially a souped up Steam Deck alternative.

2025 77" Samsung S90F 4K QD-OLED Smart TV

eBay continues its early Black Friday TV deals bonana with another big price drop on a current generation TV. Right now Buydig (an authorized Samsung reseller) is offering the 77" Samsung S90F 4K OLED Smart TV for a historically low price of $1,718.39 with free shipping after you apply 20% off coupon code "CYBERWEEK20". The S90F is the current generation (2025) model in Samsung's S90 OLED TV lineup. It's equipped with a quantum dot OLED panel, which is only found in Samsung's higher end OLED TVs.

Sonos Arc Soundbar (Refurbished)

Sonos doesn't discount its popular speakers very often, so it's a wise investment to jump on a good sale when you see one. The Sonos Arc was discontinued last year to make way for its successor, the Arc Ultra. It's no longer available new at Sonos direct, however for Black Friday you can pick up a certified refurbished model for just $399. That's $500 less than its original retail price of $900. It's a heck of a better value than picking up the Arc Ultra, currently "on sale" for $879. Sonos includes the same 1-year warranty as buying new.

Nintendo Switch Zelda amiibos

Nintendo thankfully isn't dropping amiibo support for Switch 2, and right now that matters because some of the best Zelda figures have quietly crashed to just $9.99 ahead of Black Friday. Sidon, Riju, Tulin, and Yunobo are all heavily discounted as the Nintendo Black Friday sale kicks off today, and honestly, deals this aggressive usually disappear fast.

Apple iPad 11th Gen

The latest Apple iPad just dropped to the lowest price of the year for Black Friday. Amazon is offering the 11th generation Apple iPad, featuring the A16 processor, for just $279 with free shipping after a $70 off instant discount. This is the first time I've seen this particular model drop below $299 since its release back in March of 2025.

Xbox Wireless Controllers for $35.99

If you're looking for a great price on a well-reviewed gaming controller, look no further than this Black Friday deal that just popped up. Buydig (via eBay) is offering the official Xbox wireless controller in Carbon Black for just $35.99 with free delivery after you apply 20% off coupon code "CYBERWEEK20". Not only is this the best controllers for the Xbox at this price, it's also one of the best PC gaming controllers. Buydig is a reputable vendor with over 600,000 reviews on eBay with a greater than 99% positive feedback rating.

2-Pack Lisen 6.6ft 240W USB Cables

USB Type-C has become the standard for charging and data cables alike, so it's good to have extra on hand. With this Black Friday deal, here's your chance to get some quality cables at a throwaway price. Amazon is offering a two-pack of Lisen 6.6ft 240W USB Type-C cables for just $5.60 after you apply coupon code "OFU5KCSD". That averages out to $2.80 per cable. USB Type-C cables typically go for about $10 per cable or more at your local big box store. These can charge and sync nearly any device with a USB-C port, including your Xbox controller.

Skate Story Confirms Day One Launch on PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for PS5

24 novembre 2025 à 19:22

Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Sam Eng have announced their celestial skateboarding game, Skate Story, is launching day one for the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on PlayStation 5.

News of the bonus for Sony’s gaming subscription service was unveiled in a PlayStation.Blog post today. It’s a last-minute addition to Skate Story’s launch lineup, which includes PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will have access to the trippy skateboarding game at no extra cost come December 8. Sony has yet to reveal the rest of its upcoming Game Catalog additions for December 2025, with its PS Plus Essential monthly games also under wraps for now.

Skate Story, meanwhile, was announced by Devolver Digital and Eng back in 2022 as an action skateboarding game with a cosmic twist. Its official description teases that players will step into the shiny shoes of an underworld demon made entirely of “glass and pain.” The adventure begins when the devil gives this sparkling creature a skateboard and one simple task: “Skate to the Moon and wallow it – and you shall be freed.”

“Skate fast to destroy vicious demons, help a forgetful frog, and save other tortured souls on your journey from fragile beginner to hardened skater,” the description says. “Push through hell and discover The Devil’s greatest weakness: humility, perseverance, and a disgustingly sweet backside tailslide.”

The wait for Skate Story has been long, but not without updates. Charlie Wacholz went hands-on with it for IGN last year and said they were excited about its “promising story, absorbing vibe, and responsive skating controls.” Skate Story was also recognized by the 2024 Tribeca Festival.

We’ll know more about the experience Devolver Digital and Eng are spinning up when Skate Story launches for PC, PS5, and Switch 2, as well as PS Plus, in a few weeks. In the meantime, PS Plus subscribers can see which games joined the Game Catalog and Essential list for November 2025 and prepare for December 2025 with a list of every game leaving the service. Sony typically waits to reveal which Essential games it’s adding until closer to the end of the month, so be sure to stay tuned for updates.

Tons of 4K UHD Sci-Fi Movies Are Buy 2, Get 1 Free at Amazon This Week

24 novembre 2025 à 19:16

If there's one genre that continues to be a fan favorite in film, it's sci-fi. Each decade has brought unique new sci-fi franchises to life, with many still thriving to this day. As such, many sci-fi fans look to 4K Blu-rays to grow their collections at home. While these normally can get expensive, Amazon's Black Friday sale is live, where you can take home three sci-fi movies for the price of two.

4K Sci-Fi Movies Are Buy 2, Get 1 Free at Amazon

There are many great Blu-rays to choose from here, but my favorite has to be Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy that was just released earlier this year for its 40th anniversary. This three-film set packs in all three timeless movies that center around Marty McFly, Doc Brown, and a fascinating time-traveling DeLorean. Each film is set in a different period of time, with the first covering the mid-1950s, the second jumping 30 years into the future, and the third heading to the wild west. This is an excellent addition to any collection, as this set specifically packs in numerous bonus features.

Another excellent choice is 2001: A Space Odyssey. Widely regarded as one of the best and most influential films of all time, this is a must-watch for any fan of sci-fi. Director Stanley Kubrick follows a crew of astronauts on a mission to explore a mysterious alien monolith on Jupiter. Alien, which is part of this Black Friday deal, was directly inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Overall, you cannot go wrong with any of the 4K sci-fi movies available in this 3 for 2 deal. The multi-film collections are especially great, and it's hard to find discounts like these on 4K Blu-rays during the year so it's worth taking advantage while you can.

More Black Friday Movie Deals

Right now, Gruv is also running a great deal on some of 2025's most popular movies. You can pick up Superman, Sinners, Mickey 17, and even F1 in 4K for only $12.99 each, which is the lowest we've seen any of these 4K Blu-rays. If you missed any of these in theaters, Black Friday is a great time to add them to your collection and see what the excitement was all about.

Black Friday is still a few days away, but sales are live at Amazon and Target already. Be sure to stay updated with the official IGN Deals account on X for all the latest movie deals as they go live.

Pokémon TCG Tins Drop to $17 at Walmart in Limited Time Black Friday Deal

24 novembre 2025 à 19:13

Ready to get some Pokémon TCG for under MSRP? You read that right, this is no fever dream.

Walmart is selling Paradox Clash and Destinies Tins for $17 (MSRP is $18.99).

It starts online on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 12 a.m. ET, expanding to stores on Friday, Nov. 28 at 6 a.m. local time. So, set your alarm clocks!

Here's the rub: Walmart+ members get five hours early access online beginning Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. ET. This excludes free trials, so you'll be needing that membership, and luckily, Walmart+ is 50% off right now. So hit that catalog link below and get sorted for early access as these are going to disappear quickly.

Trainers can look forward to getting the following booster packs inside these tins:

  • 2 x Obsidian Flames
  • 1 x Temporal Forces
  • 2 x Twilight Masquerade

Unless The Pokémon Company is deciding to mix up the booster packs in these tins, this is what's been in them previously and what's pictured on the Pokémon Center listing.

If you're not already a member, it’s admittedly a slight drag that you’ll essentially have to add the membership cost onto the price to pick this up and avoid the eye-waterlingly high resale prices, but needs must.

It's $12.95 per month, or you can opt for an annual membership which is half off right now, and down to $49, previously $98. That's not a bad deal at all, and includes a whole lot more than just early access to Pokémon cards. So make sure to get that boxed off and logged in ASAP to avoid missing out on this top Black Friday deal.

Whilst it's going to be hell catching these deals, paid Walmart+ members will get five hours of early access; music to the ears of any fellow Pokémon trainers, I'm sure.

The Top Chase Cards You Can Pull From These Tins

There's some bangers from the Scarlet and Violet era hiding in these tins, so here's the top five that you could just buy right now including value information:

  1. Greninja ex - 214/167 (Twilight Masquerade) Near Mint: $328.96
  2. Perrin - 220/167 (Twilight Masquerade) Near Mint: $101.20
  3. Charizard ex - 223/197 (Obsidian Flames) Near Mint: $79.95
  4. Carmine - 217/167 (Twilight Masquerade) Near Mint: $65.03
  5. Raging Bolt ex - 208/162 (Temporal Forces) Near Mint: $59.99

Action RPG Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE Releases on Steam and Xbox PC

24 novembre 2025 à 19:00

It’s officially release day for action RPG Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, which puts you in control of the limitless potential of series star Sung Jinwoo. It’s available now on Steam and Xbox PC.

The game takes place in the world of the globally popular Solo Leveling franchise, where supernaturally powerful Hunters fight to protect humanity from invading monsters. Most Hunters have fixed power levels, but Sung Jinwoo is unique: he can level up. And he’s on a mission to become the world’s strongest Hunter and the Ultimate Monarch of Shadows.

You can guide him through that mission in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE’s Story Mode, which includes an adaptation of the original story as well as new adventures that are unique to the game. You can customize his appearance, abilities, and play style through the course of the story.

His biggest strength is his versatility. He can learn just about anything and is constantly growing and evolving. Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE puts you in charge of determining that growth, including four initial job choices and a skill tree that allows for flexibility in creating your own playstyle.

He can wield several different types of weapons, and you’re able to swap between them on the fly to chain attacks together and build combos. There are also timing-based parries and dodges you can use to cancel or avoid damage and then unleash counterattacks to keep the pace of combat flowing.

Your play style will change depending on the combination of weapons and skills you choose, giving you the opportunity to test a lot of different styles and seeing what suits you. And by charging the Monarch’s Awakening gauge, Sung Jinwoo can transform into his Shadow Monarch form, which has a completely different set of skills to use against enemies.

Sung Jinwoo might be the protagonist, but he’s not the only character you can play as. You’ll recruit other Hunters that fans of the Solo Leveling series will recognize, each with their own personalities and powers, and you can play as them in certain Hunter dungeons. You can also join up to three friends in co-op raids that will see you face off with some of the toughest commanders from the series. In those raids, you can play as either Jinwoo or one of the other available Hunters, and they all have their own skill set and attack patterns to master.

The Story Mode and multiplayer content of Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE are both included in the base purchase price of $39.99, which is available now in full on Steam and Xbox PC. The game is also scheduled for release on consoles in 2026. For the latest news and updates, you can check out the game’s official website or follow it on Twitter, Facebook, Discord, and YouTube.

Eddie Murphy Reveals His Big 3 'Wish I Would Have Done' Movies

24 novembre 2025 à 18:43

Comedy legend Eddie Murphy has been a fan favorite actor for decades now — but even he has some regrets about films he wishes he'd starred in, ones that could’ve made him even more beloved than he was at the height of his career.

“Yeah, there’s a couple of movies,” he told the Associated Press in a recent interview where he addressed movies he wished he’d done. “Ghostbusters, I was supposed to do Ghostbusters. Didn’t do that. And Rush Hour. Didn’t do that. Oh, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Those are my big three ‘wish I would have done’ movies. They were huge giant hits.”

That said, he had a pretty good career without those movies. “Well, with Ghostbusters, I did Beverly Hills Cop instead. So, it was like, it was do this or that, so it worked out cool,” Murphy noted, but with some of the other ones, it wasn’t quite as seamless. “And Who Framed Roger Rabbit just sounded ridiculous to me, and I passed on it. And, afterwards, I was like, 'Oh that’s f***ing amazing,’” he explained.

No matter his regrets, Murphy is one of the best known comedic actors of our time. He became famous after his four-year stint on Saturday Night Live from 1980 to 1984, and went on to leading roles in films like Coming to America, The Nutty Professor, and Dr. Dolittle. He also became known for his voiceover work in animated films, particularly his voice work as Mushu the dragon in Disney’s Mulan and Donkey in Dreamworks’ animated series Shrek.

Murphy opened up about working on the fifth installment in the Shrek franchise, which is set to be released in 2027, during the a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter. “You have a headache after a Shrek session. The donkey has a lot of singing,” he explained. “You’re on 10, and you’re doing it over and over again. The great thing, though, is it’s appreciated. Everybody loves the movie.”

He added: "Nothing’s worse than working really hard on something and doing makeup and sweat and all this s***, and then you put it out, and they’d be like, ‘Two thumbs down.’ You go, ‘I was in the makeup chair for 50 hours.’”

The HBO Max Black Friday Streaming Deal Is Back and Better Than Ever

24 novembre 2025 à 18:40

HBO Max has officially unveiled its Black Friday deal for 2025, and despite a new round of price hikes, it’s actually better than last year’s. In fact, it’s pretty much the best Black Friday streaming deal I’ve seen so far.

From now until December 1, you can get 12 months of HBO Max with ads at the price of $2.99/month. The downside is definitely those ads, which are pretty much par for the course for Black Friday discounts. The upside is the deal is available to both new and returning subscribers, so you won’t have to do any “new e-mail address” trickery if you’ve had an account before.

Get HBO Max for 2.99/mo for 12 Months

The Basic HBO Max plan normally costs $10.99/mo, adding up to around $132 over the course of a year. The Black Friday deal drops that price to $2.99/mo, adding up to just under $36 total and saving you over $90 over 12 months.

Last year, HBO Max offered the same pricing discount but limited the deal to six months. Now, you can get a full year at a discount, pretty much doubling the amount of money you save. The discount also comes after a $1 price increase in HBO Max plans, meaning you also save more each month than you would have a year ago.

What About Other HBO Max Plans?

Every HBO Max plan includes the same library of content, including current highlights like IT: Welcome to Derry and the entire DC Universe. The Black Friday discount, however, only applies to the Basic Plan with Ads.

Unfortunately, if you’re dead set on getting HBO Max without ads (or with 4K UHD support), you’re out of luck this Black Friday season. Your best bet for savings there is checking out the Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max bundle.

More Black Friday Streaming Deals So Far

Quite a few more streaming services have already announced their deals for this year’s Black Friday. Apple TV launched their streaming deal, six months for $5.99/mo, last week, while Crunchyroll knocked $20 off their annual ad-free subscription.

The Disney+ streaming deal is now in ‘early access’ for Good Morning America viewers, but that means we know its deal will be $4.99/mo for Hulu and Disney+ (with ads, of course). We’re still waiting on any standalone deals from Hulu, and once again don't expect to see anything from Netflix. If you're in the market for more than subscriptions, feel free to check out our full breakdown of Black Friday 2025.
