Sony's All-New First-Party PlayStation Fight Stick 'Project Defiant' Goes On Sale in 2026

5 juin 2025 à 11:57

It's 2025, and Sony PlayStation has finally designed its own wireless fight stick for PS5 and PC.

Edwin Foo, VP of product development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, said the stick — codenamed internally as Project Defiant — will give players "more flexibility to play their favorite fighting games."

Sony promises ultra-low latency through a wireless connection on PS5 or PC, as well as the option to play with a wired connection. This is essential for fighting game fans who need their combo inputs to be as precise and as instant as possible.

It also boasts an ergonomic design, a "high-quality digital stick" that's been custom-designed by Sony, and toolless interchangeable restrictor gates, so players can choose between square, circle, or octagon, all of which can be stored in the controller's handy compartment when not in use. It even comes with a sling carry case.

What we don't yet know is the cost, or when it will go on sale: right now, Sony will only commit to a 2026 window.

Sony's fight stick is well-timed, given it's working on Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a new 4v4 Marvel fighting game from Arc System Works, the developer of the Guilty Gear series. That's also out 2026, so perhaps we'll see the game and stick come out around the same time.

Sony kicked off the summer reveal season with a bang, presenting a smorgasbord of new games to whet our appetites going into Summer Games Fest Week. Here's everything announced at PlayStation State of Play 2025 last night, including 007 First Light, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f's release date.

If you're new to fighting games or it's been awhile since you indulged, here's our picks of the 10 best fighting games of all time. Did your favorite reach the top spot?

Tim Sweeney Says Fortnite's Biggest Challenge Is Convincing People It's 'The Everything Game' and Not Just a Battle Royale

5 juin 2025 à 11:51

Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney has discussed the future of Fortnite, and the developer's continued desire to grow the game from something known primarily as a battle royale into a platform that offers experiences of numerous different genres.

Several years after Fortnite's much-promoted Big Bang event that launched Lego Fortnite, Rock Band developer Harmonix's Festival and Rocket League maker Psyonix's Rocket Racing, Sweeney told IGN at Unreal Fest 2025 that Epic Games' key issue remained the fact that people still think of Fortnite simply as its leading battle royale portion.

"That's our central challenge, to have everybody recognize that Fortnite is the everything game and you can experience anything there," Sweeney said, "and that's going to take time. We're going to have to deliver on a lot of other really awesome genres."

Progress towards that goal has, so far, been steady. Festival continues to attract big name music acts to headline its seasons with new player skins and music drops. Lego Fortnite Odyssey, a survival crafting experience, has a solid player core. But Rocket Racing has largely been retired, and newer shooter-centric modes such as Reload have found more success.

During its State of Unreal show this week, Epic Games noted that a third-party experience in Fortnite had momentarily overtaken Epic's own core modes for the first time, something that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago. But Epic Games' own non-shooter modes currently show no signs of replicating this success, with player numbers well below that of the developer's main Battle Royale and Zero Build playlists, let alone Reload or the game's Fortnite OG throwback offering.

When asked by IGN whether engagement for modes such as the musical Fortnite Festival and various Lego Fortnite experiences were where Epic Games wanted them to be, Epic Games executive vice president Sax Persson replied: "I don't think we're ever happy."

"I think the shooter modes have done well," Sweeney added. "I think we've not yet achieved the magic that we've been hoping to achieve with the music gameplay. It's funny, we brought in the Harmonix team, [they] joined Epic, built Rock Band and Guitar Hero in the past, they're an awesome team, and they've been riffing on approaches to that genre and Fortnite.

"They've also been bringing in all kinds of music items into Fortnite with Jam Tracks, which have not only a song, but all the beats associated with them, and ability to play them on your instruments."

"Music has done extraordinarily well in Fortnite, but ironically, not so much in music games.

Still, despite Fortnite's hugely-popular musical live events generating massive interest and player numbers in the millions, Epic has not yet found a formula that generates regular engagement of the same kind.

"Music has done extraordinarily well in Fortnite, but ironically, not so much in music games," Sweeney noted, "more just in Battle Royale and elsewhere. Our next step is to figure out music at a large scale.

"I think as Rock Band and Guitar Hero themselves achieved in their day, which was a decade or two decades ago, there's an opportunity for a music game with tens of millions of monthly active users that people just absolutely love and come to every evening or weekend for the coolest concert and competitive gameplay of all sorts."

How about Lego, then, the brand that's perhaps now the most deeply entrenched within the Fortnite ecosystem, and the offering that's most popular of all Epic's non-shooter modes.

"I think Lego is interesting, Persson said. "We are super proud of [the] journey and it has a really dedicated fan base. But is it as big as we would want it to be? No, we would love to have it bigger and figure out a way to get more Lego fans to see that this exists."

Again, it sounds like Epic is still facing the issue that Fortnite currently remains a brand associated with being a battle royale more than anything else.

"What's our primary challenge? Our primary challenge is Fortnite is Fortnite, and historically Fortnite was a shooter game," Persson continued. "It is not a shooter game anymore. It is the everything game, and we need to tell that story better than what we've done."

One solution to this will be the forthcoming rollout of improved capabilities for third-party teams working within Fortnite's Unreal Engine-powered editor, UEFN, Sweeney said. Epic currently has a better toolset than other creators, but this will change over time — to the point that Epic's own battle royale seasons will eventually (now in 2026) be made with the same tools as any creator could have access to.

"When we develop our modes, we're working with C++ and the entire Unreal Engine, [while] creators working with the toolset that we built, it's Verse and some APIs," Sweeney noted.

"Our big task now is to get the two of those development frameworks to converge so that we, Epic, and creators are working in the exact same tools with the exact same capabilities and creators will have way more power at their disposal there, and that's been the thing that we've been working so hard on for the last two years."

"I would say we're only successful with Fortnite as an ecosystem"

But why not just settle with being a brilliantly successful battle royale? For Epic Games, the future of Fortnite as a continued experience — and source of enormous income for the company — rests on its continued evolution and ongoing cultural relevance, amid the ever-changing landscape of popular video game tastes and genres.

"I would say we're only successful with Fortnite as an ecosystem," Sweeney concluded. "If somebody else actually beats us at our game, and builds something that's bigger and cooler and better than battle royale... I think there's a high probability of that happening.

"If you look at the shooter genre, it evolved with new game types coming out over time based on what was possible with the current technology," he added, noting the evolution of shooters from simple games of Deathmatch to modes with larger player counts and vehicles. "Battle Royale just happens to be the best shooter genre yet invented — and thanks to both the Japanese movie makers and [PUBG creator] Brendan Green for discovering the magic there. But it's definitely not the last. There'll be more and it'll get even better and new technologies are going to make things that are currently impossible, possible, and I think that's going to unleash unexpected surprises and creativity."

It's been a busy week for Epic Games, which has been talking about the future of AI in its Unreal Engine and in Fortnite following the recent release of a very chatty AI-powered Darth Vader. We've also heard from Epic and The Witcher 4 developer CD Projekt Red on that eye-catching Witcher 4 demo — and whether the final game will actually look anything like it.

James Bond Fans Think They've Worked Out Secret Identity of 007 First Light Actor

5 juin 2025 à 11:14

Fans of secret agent James Bond haven't taken long to decide who they think is the (not so) mysterious actor playing the role in 007 First Light.

The game's new trailer, revealed at Sony's State of Play broadcast, shows off a notably younger-looking Bond, fresh out of the Royal Navy and keen to earn his 00 agent status. But who is playing the title role?

Minutes after the trailer aired, fans on reddit began guessing that Dexter: New Blood star Patrick Gibson was the behind the new Bond — and he certainly shares a strong similarity with the character in the trailer.

"I clocked it THE SECOND I saw the dirty smirk of his," wrote one 007 aficionado. "Yeah I peeped that as soon as I seen it," said another.

"Watching the trailer and knew the face looked familiar," said a third. "After about a minute or so I screamed 'DEXTER.' I'm pretty sure it's him."

Aged 30, the Irish actor is just a few years older than the 26-year-old version of Bond he looks set to portray in the upcoming game — and, if IO Interactive gets its way, several sequels.

And if Gibson looks familiar to you too, well, the actor already has a swathe of TV and film roles under his belt, including appearances in Shadow and Bone, The Tudors, and The OA. But it's his role as a younger version of Dexter Morgan in prequel series Dexter: Original Sin for which he's most famous.

Curiously, 007 First Light developer IO Interactive is yet to confirm Gibson itself — though IGN has asked the studio if it can comment on the internet's speculation. Gibson also, for now, appears to keeping schtum.

A press release issued alongside Gibson's apparent debut in 007 First Light's trailer describes the game as as globe-trotting story-driven action-adventure game where you can choose how to navigate various challenges — either with brute force or 007's trademark charm.

The trailer showed Bond cracking a couple of deadpan jokes as he got himself out of (and into) trouble. Gibson's acting chops as the antihero Dexter look set to be put to good use.

007 First Light is due to launch at some point in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. In case you missed it, here's everything announced at Sony's State of Play June 2025 showcase.

Nintendo Switch 2 Controller Patent Points to Sequel for Million-Selling Game, Fans Believe

5 juin 2025 à 10:57

A fresh patent for a new Nintendo game controller has set tongues wagging that a Ring Fit Adventure sequel is on the way for Switch 2.

The patent, dug up by the appropriately-named Nintendo Patents Watch, was filed at the end of May 2025 and published online publicly this week — albeit with all of its images currently redacted.

Nintendo is named as the owner of the patent, which is listed as being for "video game controllers (accessories)." Most importantly, Nintendo employee Fumiyoshi Suetake is mentioned as the controller's specific designer.

Suetake was a key figure in the development of the original Ring Fit Adventure, which launched in 2019 for Nintendo Switch and has now sold more than 15 million copies. The game is packaged with a pilates ring-style accessory, which players squash and stretch while exercising.

The appearance of Suetake's name on the patent is a big clue that the currently unannounced controller may be a new Ring Fit accessory.

Additionally, Nintendo Patents Watch pointed out that Nintendo recently extended the patent on its original Ring Fit Adventure controller, suggesting the company still wanted ongoing legal protection for a product that was already available.

And finally, manufacturing giant Foxconn, a long-time Nintendo partner, has previously noted it is helping to develop new "force sensing technology" for a gaming firm, and has published a diagram showing what looks to be an updated Ring Fit controller.

All of this points to a new Ring Fit Adventure game on the way, with a Switch 2 launch seemingly likely. If nothing else, it'd make sense that Nintendo wanted a sequel to such a successful game — even if sales of the original Ring Fit Adventure were fuelled by gym-hungry owners stuck at home in 2020, exercising in front of their TV.

"Ring Fit Adventure offers an inventive fitness RPG that doesn’t quite have all the moves," IGN wrote in our Ring Fit Adventure review, which praised the game's "fun and challenging blend of exercise and RPG mechanics."

Nintendo Switch 2 is out now and we have plenty to help get you started. From ARMS to Zelda, here are all of the new updates to Switch 1 games, and here's every Nintendo Switch 2 launch game you can buy right now.

Silent Hill f's Horrifying Steelbook is Only Available to Preorder at Amazon UK

5 juin 2025 à 10:56

Amazon UK customers have been treated with an exclusive opportunity to get a beautifully gross Silent Hill f steelbook with their physical preorders, either on PS5 or Xbox for £69.99. (Update: Release date has been confirmed for September 25, 2025).

Steelbook editions are usually only sold by one retailer in each region, but the UK seems to have lucked out so far by getting the chance to grab a special case featuring a close-up of protagonist Hinako Shimizu.

Amazon in the US only lists preorders for the base version of the game, with no other retailers currently selling a steelbook either. If you're in the US, you can still preorder this version via Amazon UK using international shipping.

It’s an especially eerie look featuring the front half of her face cut off, like in the game’s first announcement trailer, but presented in a stunning oil-painted aesthetic that makes it fit right in with the tone the game is trying to set.

Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f is gearing up to stand as a very unique entry in the series. That’s as Hinako’s fictional hometown of Ebisugaoka is enveloped in a fog and must fight off grotesque, newly emerged monsters to survive.

You can also get the base version of Silent Hill f at Amazon for £68, so getting such a creepy yet gorgeous steelbook for only £2 more is quite a steal.

The biggest relief of this for many Silent Hill fans, however, is that it seems like fellow retailer GAME isn’t having the rights to new steelbooks for the series this time around, after the Silent Hill 2 remake.

It’s all too soon to forget the debacle GAME had with steelbook editions of Silent Hill 2, leading to the steelbooks being delayed to arrive much later than with base versions of the game, and system issues that prevented customers from cancelling their orders to get their money back.

Because of supply issues, some customers never even got their Steelbooks at all.

Whether going with a different retailer this time was Konami’s response to GAME previously dropping the ball, or Amazon simply made a much better case for itself, remains to be seen.

Whichever way, with a much more reliable online infrastructure and delivery system, Amazon handling the Silent Hill f Steelbooks gives a much bigger guarantee you’ll get what you ordered on time.

Romeo Is A Dead Man Hasn't Got a Firm Release Window Because 'Every Publisher Wants to Make Sure to Steer Clear Of That One Game’s Release Date'

5 juin 2025 à 10:51

It's been some time since we've heard from Goichi "Suda51" Suda's Grasshopper Manufacture, but both he and the studio were back with a vengeance at last night's State of Play, showing off a bombastic trailer for upcoming "ultra violent" sci-fi adventure, Romeo Is a Dead Man.

It's so violent, in fact, that GhM calls the violence the "main feature of this game," letting you swap between a wide array of weapons to "unleash wave after wave of splattering blood, and experience unmatched levels of violence and hyper-stimulating action."

"At this point, our development team is working at full force to get this thing finished. Back in the day, this would’ve been right around the time when staff members started bringing in sleeping bags to stay overnight in the studio, but nowadays we make sure that everyone gets enough time to rest and refresh properly," Suda51 explained.

"I’ll never forget the craziness of working all night in a frenzy back in our salad days, receiving warning mails for doing too much overtime (this actually happened). The final stage of game development is really similar to the world of the movie Beautiful Dreamer, like the night just before a big school festival. Man, it’s been awhile – now I want to watch Beautiful Dreamer again. What, you don’t know that movie...? I guess maybe a lot of you are a bit too young to remember it... It’s probably streaming somewhere, so check it out sometime."

Romeo Is a Dead Man is an "ultra-violent science fiction" action game coming from the collective minds of Suda51's Grasshopper Manufacture. Romeo Stargazer — which is one of the best protagonist names I've ever seen, by the way — is an FBI Space-Time special agent searching the universe for the most-wanted fugitives. It's slated for PC via Steam and Microsoft, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S, but isn't expected to release until 2026. As for why Grasshopper has given such a vague release window?

"That’s kinda obvious, isn’t it?" Suda51 said, hinting at what can only be in reference to GTA 6. "That One Game had its release date announced, right? Every publisher wants to make sure to steer clear of That One Game’s release date. But what if we were to flex a little and release it on the same day... Yeah, nope — just thinking about that is way too scary. Alright then, see you later."

Amazon Switch 2 Preorders: Will It Arrive for Release Day in the UK? (UPDATE)

5 juin 2025 à 10:46

Update: Several Switch 2 preorders from Amazon UK have been delayed to June 6-9.

Despite several Amazon support service representatives previously stating that preorders would arrive on release day (June 5), despite indicating a June 7 delivery time once ordered, we're now getting reports that these delays were in fact accurate.

Amazon has also since restocked the base console online (not the limited-time Mario Kart World Bundle), with free delivery available for tomorrow.

The original article continues below.

If you’re checking out the Nintendo Switch 2 preorders currently available at Amazon UK, or are checking the one you placed weeks ago, you may have noticed it’s scheduled to come after the console’s June 5th release date this week.

While this would normally be a cause for concern, we’ve determined this is not the case. While the current Nintendo Switch 2 product page at Amazon UK, for example, states a delivery date of June 7 with Prime delivery, this appears to be an error in Amazon’s stock and order management system.

When looking at reports of conversations with Amazon support reps, all customer service agents that have been spoken to have stated that Switch 2 preorders will still arrive on June 5th.

So, you won’t need to worry about missing out on playing Mario Kart World or the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition just yet.

The reason for the supposedly inaccurate date on the site is likely due to how the website utilises its various systems to determine stock availability and delivery dates on the retailer’s huge scale.

Like how Amazon uses an automated, varied pricing system, instantly fluctuating prices for items based on availability and demand, the website applies the same sort of thinking to delivery times based on multiple factors.

These include elements like general shipping times, holidays, troublesome weather, and the specific location you’re order is going to.

In the Nintendo Switch 2’s case, Amazon UK’s advertised delay has likely come from the system calculating its many pre-orders for this one product going out at the same time.

Taking into account the number of packages, along with the number of local depot workers and delivery drivers available in each region, it looks like the system is adding extra days to account for adding strain that fulfilling all those orders would bring.

In reality, though, Amazon UK have seemingly already logistically planned for this, as it has done so for countless big product launches over the years, like the PlayStation 5 or original Nintendo Switch.

From our own experiences, including our own team’s preorders, these “delayed” estimates are usually updated closer to launch, and the item still turns up on your doorstep on release day.

Of course, there’s always the slight chance of local delivery delays or stock issues, but as of now, there’s no sign of that happening for the Switch 2. Everything points to Amazon delivering as promised.

If you’d like to be sure, however, you can reach out to Amazon UK yourself to check on your order via its customer service page.

Bethesda Finally Reveals The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered's First Patch — but Performance Improvements Will Have to Wait Until Patch 2

5 juin 2025 à 10:35

Bethesda has released details of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered’s first post-launch patch, which is available today (June 5, 2025) in Steam beta form before a release across all other platforms on June 11.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - Update 1.1 is the first of two separate patches to be launched in the coming weeks, Bethesda said in a post on Steam. Both are on Steam Beta first.

This first update focuses on quests, major bugs and blockers, and quality of life fixes. The second update will focus on performance. Bethesda said it will share more details “when we are able.”

A performance patch is much needed. Oblivion Remastered has enjoyed a hugely successful launch, with over 4 million players and a ‘very positive’ user review rating on Steam. However, if there’s one issue that continues to crop up, it’s performance problems.

The tech experts at Digital Foundry found Oblivion Remastered on consoles to have significant problems across the board. DF’s Thomas Morgan said of Virtuos’ Unreal Engine 5 overhaul:

No platform is spared of issues: whether it's PS5, PS5 Pro, or either Xbox Series machine, all struggle with traversal hitches while roaming the open world. Secondly, there's major sub-60fps frame-rates, where I've also discovered that performance slowly degrades with more playing time — quite possibly down to a memory leak. And finally, software freezes are the icing on the cake, with all PlayStation and Xbox platforms crashing to the system menu on loading a save one too many times.

How does this manifest itself in-game? According to DF, a “charged” playthrough with more continuous play time behind it performs worse than a fresh boot. Cycling through saves also introduces bugs in the charged play through, Morgan revealed. And this is particularly curious: this also leads to the camera position being too high while riding horseback. You can fix this by resetting the game.

“It's a dire position for any remaster to be in and developer Virtuos needs to address the game's stability - the crashes - as a priority,” Morgan continued.

That’s a damning assessment of Oblivion on console, but what about PC? DF called PC performance “dire.” It’s worth checking out DF’s analysis in full for more.

As for Update 1.1., highlights include ToggleHudVisibility and ShowHud console commands, which will be perfect for those looking to capture Oblivion Remastered screenshots (it’s a gorgeous game!), a fix for not automatically showing the Local Map when inside interior spaces and a fix for the Local Map being blank when opening, and a fix for the first-person camera being set above the player's head.

Oblivion Remastered, developed by remake specialist Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, has a long list of visual and feature improvements. It runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, as you'd expect, but other changes are more meaningful. Everything from the leveling systems to character creation, and combat animations to in-game menus have been improved. Meanwhile, there's lots of new dialogue, a proper third-person view, and new lip sync technology. The changes are going down well with fans, some of whom believe Oblivion Remastered would be more accurately described as a remake. Bethesda, however, has explained why it went down the remaster route.

Soon after launch, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered players started warning newcomers to do Kvatch before the level scaling makes it an absolute nightmare. We’ve also got a report on a player who managed to escape the confines of Cyrodiil to explore Valenwood, Skyrim, and even Hammerfell, the rumored setting of The Elder Scrolls VI.

And be sure to check out our comprehensive guide to everything you'll find in Oblivion Remastered, including an expansive Interactive Map, complete Walkthroughs for the Main Questline and every Guild Quest, How to Build the Perfect Character, Things to Do First, every PC Cheat Code, and much more.

5 juin 2025 à 02:11

PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to playing a selection of video games, new and old, as part of its Extra and Premium catalogs, including classic titles from the Resident Evil, Twisted Metal, and more.

New PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 additions to the ever-changing lineup of titles were revealed during today’s June 2025 State of Play showcase. Every game on the list is prepped to drop at some point throughout the summer, with some titles launching on the service day-one.

Sword of the Sea, an atmospheric adventure game about surfing through a colorful oasis, is the headliner here. It’s the next project from the Abzu and The Pathless team at Giant Squid and promises an experience that focuses on skateboarding-like gameplay, magical visuals, and exploration. It’ll be available for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers at no extra cost starting August 19, 2025.

Remedy Entertainment’s FBC: Firebreak, meanwhile, will offer a new perspective on the world of Control when it’s made available for Premium and Extra users’ Game Catalog June 17, 2025. These are fresh experiences from developers with proven track records, but the Premium Classics Catalog will soon allow players to revisit retro titles, too.

New Classic Catalog additions include Deux Ex, Twisted Metal 3, Twisted Metal 4, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Myst and Riven will also be added for PlayStation Plus subscribers to enjoy as part of Days of Play festivities later this month. These are simply the highlights Sony was willing to share as part of State of Play, with more games likely to be revealed in the coming months. You can see everything confirmed, along with their PlayStation Plus release dates, in the list below.

Ghost of Yotei Gameplay Deep Dive State of Play Set for July as October Release Date Draws Near

5 juin 2025 à 01:11

Sucker Punch Productions will debut a Ghost of Yōtei gameplay deep dive with a special State of Play presentation next month.

A promise to show off more of how the highly anticipated samurai follow-up has sharpened its blade was revealed in a PlayStation Blog post published following today’s June 2025 State of Play showcase. The Ghost of Tsushima sequel did show up for a brief appearance during the tail end of the presentation but mostly served simply as a reminder that Sucker Punch is still hard at work to meet its October release date.

While it may have been disappointing to see Ghost of Yōtei come and go so quickly, it sounds like the July State of Play gameplay deep dive will do more to help with the wait. Sucker Punch’s showcase doesn’t have a release date yet but is said to focus entirely on Ghost of Yōtei and its “evolved gameplay mechanics, including exploration, combat, and much more.”

Sucker Punch formally announced its Ghost of Tsushima sequel last September, promising to place players in the shoes of new protagonist Atsu as she embarks on a bloody journey through Japan in 1603. Although the wait for story and gameplay details has been painful for those hoping for a sequel since the original game launched in 2020, director Nate Fox has said the experience will be "a respectful representation" of Japan, just like its predecessor.

Ghost of Yōtei has a release date of October 2, 2025 for PS5. For everything else announced during today's June 2025 State of Play presentation, you can click here. To help with the wait for more information, you can read up on everything we know about Ghost of Yōtei.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina Review

5 juin 2025 à 00:00

Being “From the World of John Wick” is not an easy thing. In this fictional universe, the threat of death lurks around every corner – and not just because those corners often conceal the members of an ancient and shadowy assassin’s guild. And out here in the real world, any newcomer to Wick’s turf has an instantly iconic Keanu Reeves character to live up to, and with that comes an expectation for innovative, jaw-dropping stunts. These are big shoes to fill, and not everyone can do it. Just ask The Continental.

Ana de Armas, as deadly, revenge-minded orphan Eve Macarro, just wants a chance to try. And as unfortunate as it is for everybody living under the High Table, I’m happy to say she goes toe to toe with the Baba Yaga. De Armas is a star, through and through. We’ve known that since Knives Out; we’ve seen her action chops a few times since, and throughout this movie, she’s equal parts angry and frustrated, dangerous and vulnerable. And she proves that Ballerina really does belong in the World of John Wick.

The challenge for a spinoff, I think, is twofold. Number one, you have to nail all the hallmarks of the original movie and/or the rest of the franchise. Number two, you have to be your own movie. That’s a balancing act bordering on impossible and mutually exclusive. And fair or not, that’s what was on my mind going into Ballerina. I admit, I didn’t have terribly high hopes for it.

The first third – maybe even the whole first half – validated those apprehensions. It’s interesting sitting down to another helping of the World of John Wick only to watch somebody get better at assassin-ing. Part of the charm of this franchise is being plunked down in the middle of a fully formed world full of legendary hitmen and rules that everybody knows, and that’s not exactly the case with Ballerina. It’s something that honestly takes a second to get used to. This section of Ballerina is okay, even good in spots, but the action is standard beat ‘em up fare. Eve’s backstory is suitably tragic, but it’s all pretty rote.

It’s that backstory – so basic it’s in the IMDB synopsis – that weighs these scenes down. We know Eve wants to avenge her fallen father, and when the time came, I found myself more just kinda waiting on him to die, rather than actually feeling his death. If this is the whole motivation for her roaring rampage of revenge, why doesn’t it carry more weight? Instead, it all feels like a shorthand, like director Len Wiseman and screenwriter Shay Hatten (and a veritable murderers’ row of uncredited contributors, including franchise boss Chad Stahelski) just assume everybody knows a father being murdered is enough backstory for an assassin, so they didn’t invest as much emotion into it. That’s fair to a point. We all get how movies work, and this is a franchise built off of a guy’s dog getting killed. But the trick with shorthand, particularly in the fifth installment of a franchise, is that it needs to be, you know, short. Either Ballerina needed a more charismatic turn out of the father and more oomph behind the connection between him and his daughter, or it all needed to just kinda get out of the way quicker.

But here’s the other thing about the first half of this movie: It is not the part that anybody will remember or talk about. There’s a point at which Ballerina earns its place in The World of John Wick, and from that moment on, it’s an absolute blast. And I use the word “blast” here quite literally, because the scene I’m referring to involved what I will forever very affectionately refer to as “great grenade stuff.”

Ballerina taps into its John Wick energy about halfway through.

Which brings me back to my two requirement theory of spinoff movies, the first being that you need to correctly do what the franchise does best. John Wick movies have always had a creative approach to action and fight choreography. When they’re at their peak, the fight scenes make you cringe and chuckle at the same time. It’s an entire series built by stunt people, for stunt people who are all saying “here’s a thing we do better than anybody and here’s us having a fantastic time doing it. That’s the energy Ballerina finds about halfway through. All of a sudden, Eve is using her environment and improvising weapons, taking as many hits as she’s dishing out.

I may as well mention here that yes, Keanu is back. John Wick finds himself in a little action, not much by his usual standards, but the highlight for me is a little bit meta. John and Eve square off in a way that John obviously doesn’t like. He doesn’t want to fight against Eve’s story, or keep her from what she’s trying to do. I don’t think that scene was written in there by accident, and it’s not an insignificant scene for the Baba Yaga himself to show up in.

So the spinoff scorecard shows Ballerina did part one almost totally right. How does it fare on part two? How well does this movie stand on its own? The short answer: Pretty well. The longer answer has more to do with that grenade stuff that I’m super into now. This is a funny movie. The filmmakers clearly understand what the audience has come to expect from the Wick-verse and use some of those expectations to create a handful of really funny, subversive moments. If it’s not grenades, it’s dinner plates or a freezer door or duelling flame throwers. Even duct tape gets some significant comedic mileage. There’s one scene in particular, all about the aftermath of an assignment, that’s maybe the most smartly crafted joke in the whole franchise.

It helps tremendously that the weight of John’s four-film odyssey has been completely shed. This movie has no real concerns about paying off any setup or sticking a satisfying landing that’s been years in the making. It seems like the filmmakers themselves felt that, because despite the characteristically tight stunt choreography, there’s a lot of loose fun happening on screen. That lighter touch shows up thematically as well. Every previous John Wick movie stacked a new golden coin of mythology on top of the already heaping pile on the High Table, and that’s true of Ballerina as well. It presents a side to The World of John Wick that allows Eve to be a heroic figure from the start. As sympathetic a character as John Wick himself has always been, there’s a murkiness to him, a sense that he’s killed countless people over his years serving the Table and maybe he’s just reaping a little of what he’s sown. Eve has no such baggage here, and that makes the light moments that much lighter.

So I’m happy to say Ballerina serves both items on my spinoff movie checklist: It continues the traditions of the Wick franchise, but in a surprising way that stands apart. We’re introduced to new corners of the world – including a new villain played by Gabriel Byrne in full-on scenery-chewing mode (that’s a compliment, by the way) – but it also offers another side of our hero’s coin. There’s the unflappable agent of chaos and death, but there’s also a choice to be a protector and a safe haven. That’s something we haven’t seen yet from a John Wick movie, and why on the balance, Ballerina is such a successful spinoff.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Is a 4v4 Fighting Game From the Developer of Guilty Gear

4 juin 2025 à 23:51

Arc System Works, the developer of the Guilty Gear series, is making a 4v4 Marvel fighting game called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls for Sony.

Announced during Sony’s State of Play June 2025, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is due out on PS5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store at some point in 2026.

In a post on PlayStation Blog, Reed Baird, Senior Producer, XDEV, PlayStation Studios, confirmed the inclusion of iconic Marvel heroes and villains such as Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) – each with Arc’s unique twist on their character designs and gameplay styles.

A 4v4 tag fighting game sounds overwhelming, but Game Director and Lead Battle Designer, Kazuto Sekine, insisted that wouldn't be the case.

"Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game," Sekine said.

"We have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together – creating a new and exciting team VS battle experience.”

Visually, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has the Japanimation style Arc system Works is known for. As for gameplay mechanics, each character has a bespoke set of Normal, Special, and Unique attacks inspired by their abilities and powers in Marvel lore. And of course there are cinematic Ultimate Skills.

“Team VS fighting games have a long tradition of 2v2 or 3v3 team formats, so this is something we discussed in-depth within the development team," Sekine added. "We went back and forth many times, from thinking we might be better off making a 1v1 game or sticking to the established 3v3 format.

"At its core, we felt that the appeal of team VS fighting games is the intensity of battles with multiple characters on screen at once. Additionally, one of the appeals of Marvel comics is seeing the vast cast of characters coming together to create all kinds of unique team-ups.

"With these two ideas in mind, we concluded that creating a 4v4 team VS system would be the best way to not only create those over-the-top moments, but to further evolve the tag fighting genre."

Most stages also feature multiple areas, with transitions that play a "strategic role." Sony suggested fans check out the screenshots from Marvel’s New York City to see what you can find.

007 First Light Reveals New, Young James Bond, With The Walking Dead's Lennie James Set to Co-Star

4 juin 2025 à 23:50

Today's PlayStation State of Play broadcast has provided our first proper look at 007 First Light, the upcoming James Bond game from Hitman studio IO Interactive that's due to launch in 2026.

A cinematic trailer for the game showcased a fresh-faced James Bond at the beginning of his career as an agent, who joins MI6 and meets new versions of classic characters M, Q and Moneypenny.

The trailer also revealed the involvement of The Walking Dead's Lennie James, who will portray Bond’s mentor John Greenway in the game.

007 First Light's trailer reveals this incarnation of James Bond was involved in a childhood tragedy that left him as an orphan aged 11, after which he spent the rest of his childhood in various British boarding schools. We later see Bond as a young recruit in the Royal Navy, from which he is recruited by MI6.

It's here that players pick up Bond's story as he becomes an agent, picks up an Omega watch, and starts annoying Q by trying out his gadgets in the lab.

A press release issued alongside the game's State of Play appearance lists Bond's age in 007 First Light as "a young 26-year-old". Players will be traverse the globe in what is described as "a story-driven action-adventure game" where you can choose how to navigate various challenges — either with brute force or 007's trademark charm.

What looks like gameplay footage shows James Bond on a mission, stealthing around, using gadgets — and his fists — to subdue enemies, as the hero is sent off to target a rogue agent. "009 is a master manipulator," Greenway says at one point. "Whatever the endgame is, we won't see it coming." Oh, and yes you can dress up in disguises, as you'd expect from the Hitman studio.

IO Interactive's James Bond game was first announced back in 2020 as Project 007, and since then we've learned very little about it. Still, from the off, IO said that it was developing a fresh James Bond origin story and a wholly original piece of work, rather than anything that followed the events of any particular film.

More recently, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has said he hoped 007 First Light would be the start of a new trilogy of games, though unfortunately the studio's beloved Hitman franchise is on hiatus while IO works on this game. We also learned just this past April that in addition to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, 007 First Light is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 release.

The Massive 22TB Seagate External Hard Drive Is on Sale at Amazon: The Best Deal for Local Storage

4 juin 2025 à 23:40

If you're shopping for a huge amount of local storage, this is one of the best deals available right now. For a limited time, Amazon is offering this massive Seagate Expansion 22TB USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive for $249.99 shipped. This is one of the lowest prices per TB of storage I've seen at $11.36 per TB. The drive is sold by a marketplace vendor - QuickDealStore - with an 85% rating out of 460 reviews over the past 12 months. Amazon, as always, has a 30 day return policy.

Seagate 22TB External Hard Drive for $249.99

The Seagate Expansion boasts a single 22TB disk drive so it's physically no bigger than any other desktop hard drive. It features a USB 3.0 interface, which won't bottleneck traditional hard drive speeds, and a USB 3.0 cable is included in the packaging. It also includes recovery software and automatic recognition of both Windows and Mac computers.

Although SSDs are all the rage these days, traditional hard drives are still the superior choice for long term storage. For one, hard drives are significantly less expensive. Compared to this hard drive's $11.36/TB cost, a solid state drive would run you at least $50/TB. Hard drives also have a much higher maximum capacity. Consumer SSDs generally cap out at 8TB, which pales in comparison to the 22TB capacity of this drive. Perhaps most importantly, although SSDs can equal HDDs in terms of lifespan, it's much easier to recover data from a HDD than SSD if either one fails.

Looking for more alternatives? Check out the best external hard drives of 2025.

Thief Is Back...as a VR Game - Sony State of Play

4 juin 2025 à 23:38

Congratulations, stealth-lovers. You're getting a brand new Thief game over a decade after the last entry. However, you're going to need a VR headset to enjoy it.

In a trailer during today's Sony State of Play, we got our first look at Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow. The trailer itself looks fine and very Thief-y - you're exploring a city, sneaking around, looking for treasure you can pilfer, avoiding guards, shooting arrows from the shadows, lockpicking, finding hidden paths, all that sort of thing. It is a little weird to see those disembodied hands floating in front of you, but sure.

From the PlayStation Blog, we learn a little more: you play as Magpie, an orphan thief roaming The City, which is ruled by Baron Ulysses Northcrest. Magpie discovers a legendary artifact of some importance, which leads to a chain of unraveling secrets and conspiracies that spans the city.

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is coming out sometime in 2025 on PSVR2 - we have yet to hear if any other platforms are planned. It's being developed by Maze Theory, in collaboration with Vertigo Games and Eidos-Montreal.

Nioh 3 Revealed at Sony State of Play June 2025

4 juin 2025 à 23:30

Team Ninja has officially revealed Nioh 3 today at Sony's State of Play June 2025 presentation.

The debut trailer revealed an early 2026 release window for the action RPG sequel, which is set for release across PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.

This time, there are open fields for players to explore and both Ninja and Samurai styles to get to grips with. A demo is live now on PS5 until June 18. Players who complete the demo will unlock an exclusive in-game helmet at launch.

Here's the official blurb, from PlayStation Blog:

In Nioh 3, the protagonist is a young warrior poised to become the next Shogun. Why is he dedicated to battling against yokai? We’ll save those details for another day, but what we can tell you today is as the battles unfold, players will now be able to fight using two distinct combat styles: Samurai and Ninja.
The Samurai style provides a gameplay experience similar to previous Nioh titles. New actions such as Arts Proficiency, which enhances the power of martial arts, and Deflect, which allows players to block enemy attacks at the last moment have been added, helping create a series of intense and deadly face-to-face confrontations.
Meanwhile, the Ninja style excels in quick movements like dodging and aerial actions, giving ninjas the advantage of being able to attack from outside of the enemy’s range by utilizing a variety of “Ninjitsu” techniques according to the situation on the battlefield. Players have the ability to use techniques like Mist, which leaves a clone after an attack, and Evade, which allows for narrowly avoiding enemy strikes. Both techniques help players outmaneuver foes while delivering devastating speed attacks from behind.
Players will be able to switch between battle styles instantly at any time, playing in their preferred style in a storyline defined by the strong, the swift, and the wicked. Based on the tendencies of the enemies and stages, some players will prefer to switch seamlessly between Samurai and Ninja techniques, while others will choose to fight using only one style continuously based on the challenge ahead. Feel free to play with the style you like best as you battle some of the fiercest enemies we’ve created to date!
Aside from the new battle styles, Nioh 3 also enables players to enjoy an open field that offers a new freedom of exploration to the unique tension and confrontations that have become a defining characteristic of the Nioh series. Experience unexpected encounters with formidable yokai, explore suspicious villages riddled in violent secrets, and take on the daunting challenges of The Crucible. Enjoy the thrilling, hostile new environments as you fight to survive the cursed kingdom!

We're pretty big Nioh fans here at IGN. We gave the original Nioh a 9.6/10, calling it "an epic, unforgettable adventure carried by a fierce combat system that cleverly balances style and strategy." We similarly praised Nioh 2 with a 9/10, saying that its "many systems may be a little overwhelming, but the stellar combat and satisfying difficulty make it worth it." The Nioh series has been very, very quiet ever since the 2020 release of Nioh 2, though Team Ninja itself has kept busy with releases such as Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Rise of the Rōnin, and the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 4.

Final Fantasy Tactics' Long-Rumored Remake is Real After All, Includes Voice Acting and Classic Original Version

4 juin 2025 à 23:27

Surprise! Beloved PlayStation tactics game Final Fantasy Tactics is getting a full-blown remake for modern consoles, as announced at today's Sony State of Play.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will include two versions of the game — the classic original (which includes the War of the Lions translation), and a fresh new version with full-blown voice acting, revamped interface, "extensive additions and adjustments to the story", and smoother visuals.

Today's trailer also revealed a release date for the game, which launches for PlayStation 4 and PS5 on September 30, 2025.

Rumors of a Final Fantasy Tactics remake or remaster have been circulating since 2021, when a list of upcoming games were datamined from Nvidia GeForce Now's database that included a Tactics remaster. Numerous games from the list that were unannounced at the time have since tunred out to be real things, and though series creator Yasumi Matsuno denied there was a remaster in the works in 2023, it seems like he was just being coy.

This seems like it will be a great way to re-experience the classic Square tactics game given that its age has made it hard to access since. We gave it an 8.5/10 way back when it first came out in 1998, and we're looking forward to revisiting this beloved game almost three decades later.

In case you missed it, here's everything announced at Sony's State of Play June 2025 showcase.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater New State of Play Trailer Shows Off More Ape Escape

4 juin 2025 à 23:27

Today's State of Play included a brand new trailer for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake that showed off more of the game, a closer look at at the revamped Snake vs. Monkey mode featuring Ape Escape, and... was that a tease for Metal Gear Online?

The trailer focuses on Snake being sneaky, as he is, crawling through areas unseen, in disguise, hiding in bushes, and eventually engaging with the enemy head-on in multiple of the game's infamous boss fights.

However, the end of the trailer is a little sillier. It focuses on the previously-announced revamp of the Snake vs. Monkey mode that includes the monkeys from Ape Escape, with Snake trying to capture them by surprise. When this mode was revealed, we learned that Xbox players would be getting a different, equivalent mode featuring Bomberman instead, so it's possible we see a look at that later this week at Xbox's showcase, or in a future trailer.

And then there's the very end of the trailer that appears to be teasing...Metal Gear Online? That "and more" sure is mysterious.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid 3 that was announced in 2023. Though it's been popping up at a lot of State of Plays, it's not PlayStation-exclusive, and it's coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on August 28, 2025. We previewed it last August, and you can read our thoughts right here.

Save 25% Off the 27" LG UltraGear GX790 OLED Gaming Monitor With 480Hz Refresh Rate

4 juin 2025 à 23:20

The LG UltraGear 27GX790A-B gaming monitor was released at the tail end of 2024. This was LG's first ever OLED monitor with an incredible 480Hz refresh rate. It launched at a starting price of $999.99, which hadn't been discounted at all - until now. For a few days only, Amazon is offering a 25% discount on this monitor, dropping the price to $749.99 shipped. This is one of the best 27" QHD gaming monitors you can get right now, especially if you're aiming for the highest frame rates possible in your FPS games.

$250 Off 27" LG UltraGear 480Hz OLED Gaming Monitor

The LG UltraGear GX790 is a 27" monitor with a 2560x1440 resolution (109ppi), 480Hz refresh rate, and G-Sync compatibility. This monitor uses LG's latest generation WOLED panel, which offers near instantaneous response times (0.03ms) and true black levels that can't be matched by any other panel type, including Mini-LED. The GX790 also boasts a 98.5% DCI-P3 color range, HDR True Black 400 certification, and is factory calibrated. Connectivity wise, the GX790 includes one DisplayPort 2.1 port (which you will need to use to get 480Hz), two HDMI 1.4 ports, and two USB 3.0 ports.

Because the GX790 combines an OLED panel with a super high refresh rate, it excels at games with a lot of fast or twitchy motion like shooters. To achieve framerates of up to 480fps at 2560x1440, you'll need to make sure your PC is equipped with the appropriate video card. Depending on the game, you'll probably need at least a graphics card like the GeForce RTX 4070. Games like Counter-Strike or Fortnite have less demanding needs than Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Silent Hill f Is Out This September - Sony State of Play

4 juin 2025 à 23:12

In a haunting new trailer at today's Sony State of Play, we learned that Silent Hill f's fog of fresh horrors is imminent: it's coming out on September 25, 2025.

In a deeply upsetting new trailer today, we saw a longer, darker look at what's in store for us in Silent Hill f. We saw the main character, Hinako Shimizu, and her friends in Ebisugaoka living normal, peaceful lives, just before a mysterious fog envelopes the town and makes everything real weird.

Creepy red flowers bloom. Heinous, jerky dolls start chasing Hinako around and trying to rip her apart. Her friends don't seem to be doing so hot, either. There's gore, there's violence, lots of paranormal, and Hinako proving remarkably efficient with a crowbar.

Silent Hill f was first announced in 2022. It's set in 1960s Japan and is intended to juxapose horror with beauty in a story written by acclaimed Japanese writer Ryukishi07. We've since learned that it's standalone from the other Silent Hill games, and that it's Japan's first M-rated Silent Hill game, with truly gruesome warnings about impalement, faces being ripped apart, a character being burned alive in a cage, entrails on serving platters, and lots more. Yikes!

Capcom's Pragmata Reemerges at Sony State of Play

4 juin 2025 à 23:11

Capcom's elusive new game, Pragmata, has resurfaced at Sony's State of Play, this time with a new release window and a little more info on what the heck this game even is.

As demonstrated by the cheeky ending of the trailer, Pragmata is indeed a real game. You play as an astronaut man, Hugh, who's come into some unexpected enconter in space that's left him vulnerable. He's saved by a little girl whose name is actually DI0367, but who the astronaut dubs Diana.

Though she's small, Diana's far from helpless - she has some sort of magic-techno-hacking powers that enable her to help out her astronaut friend as they fight off the weird robot-alien creatures trying to "neutralize" them. You'll play as both characters simultaneously, with Diana riding on Hugh's back. Per the PlayStation Blog, it looks like the main threat is a lunar station AI that's preventing Hugh from returning to earth...from the moon.

Pragmata was first unveiled way back in 2020, with a trailer of an astronaut, a little girl, and some weird yet beautiful imagery, but little explanation as to what sort of game we were looking at. It was originally planned for a 2022 release, but was then later delayed until 2023, and then paused indefinitely with an apologetic trailer. We haven't seen anything of it since, so this re-unveiling hopefully means that its development is finally making some serious progress, and we'll get our hands on it soon...in 2026.

4 juin 2025 à 23:07

Sony kicked off State of Play June 2025 with the surprise announcement of Lumines Arise, from Tetris Effect developer Tetsuya Mizuguchi.

It’s due out fall 2025 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and PS VR2, with a demo due out in the summer. The debut trailer is below:

Lumines has a brand-new feature for the Lumines’ core gameplay: Burst. As you play, you charge up a gauge, shown at the top of the Timeline. When ready, tap a trigger button to activate Burst and lock a formed square to the playfield. Build it as large as you can before time runs out. Watch screen-clearing combos rack up massive points when Burst is complete and the Timeline starts clearing that color again. Clear enough squares to meet the stage’s quota, and you’ll zoom to the next environment.

In a post on PlayStation Blog, Takashi Ishihara, Director, Enhance, said Lumines Arise is built from the ground up as a successor to the classic Lumines puzzle series that began on the PlayStation Portable 20 years ago, and includes optional PS VR2 compatibility.

"Lumines Arise on PlayStation 5 with optional PS VR2 compatibility is more than just an ordinary puzzle game — our aim is to hit you right in the feels," Ishihara said.

"You emerge from the darkness in the first stage (a glimpse of which you saw in today’s announcement trailer), and every stop on the over 30-stage journey evokes a different and complex emotional response. From lush jungles, oceans teeming with life, and snakes preparing to strike, to more electronic frontiers like the bustling streets of Tokyo and the endless expanse of outer space. All with visual flourishes to incite synesthesia.

"It all starts with a seemingly simple puzzle mechanic. If you’ve never played a Lumines game before, here’s how it works: rotate and place a variety of 2×2 blocks made up of one or two colors, forming squares of a single color/pattern. The Timeline sweeps across the playfield to the beat of the thumping soundtrack, erasing completed squares in its path. That gives you a light time pressure to form squares and build on them, making bigger and bigger squares to clear combos and score even more points.

"You race to create combos, ever mindful of the constant movement of the Timeline, feeling the vibration of the DualSense controller while the music radiates between your ears and the vibrant, lively background draws you in. That’s when you enter a flow state, and the world around you vanishes. Your pulse quickens as your breath holds still."

Arise also features brand-new music composed by Hydelic, who was also responsible for Tetris Effect: Connected’s award-winning score. And just as with Connected, everything you do in-game impacts the soundscape.

Open-World Racing Game CarX Street Coming to Consoles, Pre-Orders Open Now on Xbox

4 juin 2025 à 23:00

Developer CarX Technologies has made a name for itself over the last decade with series like Drift Racing, Highway Racing, and Rally. In 2022, they branched out with CarX Street, an open-world racing game with a level of freedom they’ve never had before. Then they brought it to Steam in 2024, where it was wishlisted by over 600,000 people. And now, they’re bringing it to consoles — it arrives June 18 on Xbox Series X/S and later this summer on PlayStation 5.

CarX Street takes you to the sprawling Sunset City and its suburbs, where your goal is straightforward: prove you’re the best racer in the city. There are racing clubs scattered throughout the city, each with their own identity. For example, Union Underground is a crew of automotive engineers who value a car’s performance but don’t care about looks. Kanjo Spirit is for hatchback enthusiasts who use volatile, high-risk driving styles.

You’ll need to be prepared for a variety of different race types, like classic sprint races, circuit races, and drifting competitions. All of the races make use of CarX Technologies’ car physics engine, designed with a focus on realism. That realism means that the cheaper cars you can afford at the start of the game won’t handle well enough to tackle harder races and won’t make the grade necessary for you to enter them in the first place. So you’ll need to upgrade your ride early and often.

Luckily, there are tons of options when building a new car. That starts with 92 different vehicles, with additional ones added regularly. There’s also an extensive customization and tuning system that lets you tailor your ride to your preferred driving style — including the engine, drivetrain, suspension, body, and wheels.

Sunset City might be full of racing clubs, but beating them isn’t the only thing to do in the city. You can accept quests to deliver cars or parts to people across the city, and completing them can net you resources to improve your vehicle. You can explore the map on your own and speed down open highways or find mountain roads with sharp turns and narrow passages to put your driving skills to the test. Or you can buy properties across the city that come with parking lots where you can display your custom cars. Through all of this, Sunset City has a dynamic day-night cycle, leading to races having a different feel depending on what time of day you do them.

There are also multiplayer modes if you’re feeling competitive. Battle Mode is a 1v1 showdown in circle or sprint races, Chase Mode has one player try to escape through the city while their opponent tries to keep up, Speed League has circuit and sprint races in a 1v5 format, and Time Attack challenges you to set the best lap time you can while you rise up the leaderboard and earn increasingly valuable rewards. The multiplayer modes will also have crossplay between the PC and console versions of the game.

All of these features will be present when the game arrives on console, but the developers have also announced their plans for future additions. That includes new competitive multiplayer modes, gymkhana (obstacle courses), a team multiplayer mode, dynamic weather effects, a network of high-speed expressways, full narrative campaign, and police chase mechanic.

CarX Street releases on Xbox Series X on June 18, and pre-orders are open now. It’s planned for release on PlayStation 5 later this summer. To keep up with news on CarX Street and the rest of CarX Technologies’ lineup of games, you can check out their official website.

How to Watch My Hero Academia in Order

4 juin 2025 à 21:39

My Hero Academia came out at the perfect time, releasing just a couple of years before Infinity War, at the height of superhero dominance of pop culture. While Marvel movies were delivering world-ending stakes, the simplicity and relatively small scope of My Hero Academia felt new and refreshing even if it was familiar — especially to anyone who watched Sky High in the mid-'00s. The show is just a very effective battle shonen with everything you'd expect from a series in the genre, including memorable characters, themes about friendship and self-improvement, a sense of escalation, and stunning animation.

But most importantly, the show has an interesting portrayal of a world of heroes where superpowers impact every single aspect of culture and society. Like most shonen, there is plenty of supplementary material, like movies and original video animation (OVAs) and even spin-offs that expand the world of the anime. Whether you're just getting into the show or you want to see what you've missed along the way, here's how to watch My Hero Academia (including the movies) in order.

How Long Is My Hero Academia?

Adapting Kōhei Horikoshi's manga of the same name, My Hero Academia has been airing for seven seasons across almost a whole decade. In addition to the main show, there have been nine OVA's that expand the story, either with silly little side stories or adaptations of one-shot manga, as well as four movies. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is the first and only anime spin-off so far.

How about canon, though? Well, anything that doesn't directly adapt the manga, like the movies and most of the OVAs, aren't technically canon. Sure, they're fun and the movies do often tease some new power-up that is to come in the anime later on, but they're not necessary to the story.

How to Watch My Hero Academia Online

Almost everything MHA, including every season of the show, most of the OVAs, and all four movies, is streaming on Crunchyroll. The best anime streaming service, Crunchyroll offers an ad-supported free tier as well as a seven-day free trial of its Premium membership, which starts at $7.99/month. In the U.S., all seven seasons of My Hero Academia are streaming on Hulu, while the first four seasons are on Netflix. The My Hero Academia movies are also available as physical releases.

How to Watch My Hero Academia in Chronological Order

1. My Hero Academia Season 1 (Episodes 1-13)

  • Entrance Exam Arc
  • Quirk Apprehension Test Arc
  • Battle Trial Arc
  • U.S.J. Arc

2. OVA: My Hero Academia: Save! Rescue Training!

The first My Hero Academia OVA that was released feels like a blast from the past, an episode that is entirely about the students of class 1A and the teachers reeling from the USJ Incident from the first season. Now, the students are finally set to resume training, and they make groups as they are assigned to rescue each other, then face a fight against a villain.

Because the episode was only released in Japan at the annual Jump Festa fan convention celebrating the various Shōnen manga magazines, the OVA is full of funny fourth-wall breaks and nods to the audience.

3. My Hero Academia Season 2 (Episodes 14-38)

  • U.A. Sports Festival Arc
  • Vs. Hero Killer Arc
  • Final Exam Arc

4. OVA: My Hero Academia: Training of the Dead

Teacher Aizawa is a little bit unorthodox. In this second OVA, he decides to throw his students headfirst into a training exercise with students from the Isamu Academy High School – which spirals out of control when one of the students (named Romero in a touching tribute to the father of modern zombies) uses his Quirk and turns a whole bunch of people into zombies. What was meant to be a simple exercise about survival turns into a proper zombie apocalypse. The OVA has some hilarious moments like seeing the panic in Deku's eyes when he sees All Might in his weakened state, only for everyone to think he's a zombie.

5. OVA: My Hero Academia: All Might Rising

While this OVA could have technically kicked off the timeline, it's best enjoyed as a prologue to the Two Heroes movie it released alongside. This is as close as we got to a proper All Might prequel, and it is delightful to watch All Might rise from a grieving student who just lost his teacher to becoming the ever-smiling Symbol of Peace we know and love.

6. My Hero Academia: Two Heroes

The first My Hero Academia movie sets the winning formula that would follow in every movie in the franchise since. What starts out as a fun getaway vacation where Deku accompanies All Might to visit an old friend of the hero ends up as a big test to Deku as the floating island is taken hostage by a villain. This is the movie for All Might fans as we learn a bit more of his origin and his time in America.

7. My Hero Academia Season 3 (Episodes 39-63)

  • Forest Training Camp Arc
  • Hideout Raid Arc
  • Provisional License Exam Arc

8. OVA: Make It! Do-or-Die Survival Training

Why does every Class 1-A training exercise end in disaster? This time around, the entire abandoned mall that the teacher decided to set this training in starts to collapse and the training exercise quickly becomes a fight for survival. These episodes are really for those who don't like that the main story moved away from the school part of the story too quickly, and delivers the kind of Saturday Morning Cartoon-type school shenanigans of the earlier seasons.

9. My Hero Academia Season 4 (Episodes 64-88)

  • The Shie Hassaikai Arc
  • Remedial Course Arc
  • U.A. School Festival Arc
  • Start of Pro Hero Arc

10. My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising

This is by far my favorite My Hero Academia movie to date. Heroes Rising showcases Class 1-A working together as proper heroes without relying on a mentor, a cool location, and also a cameo from the best hero, Godzillo. Most importantly, this movie is a treat for Bakugo and Deku fans, giving us more insight into their relationship and dynamic. It also has the best climax of any of the movies by having Deku and Bakugo work together and deliver a phenomenal joint attack.

11. My Hero Academia Season 5 (Episodes 88-106)

  • Rest of Pro Hero Arc
  • Joint Training Arc
  • Endeavor Agency Arc

12. OVA: Departure

This is another short OVA, and one that actually adapts a one-shot from the manga. It is mostly a comedy sketch about Hawks that ties into the next movie, but what makes it stand out is its stunning animation.

13. My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission

This movie has the highest stakes of the movies up to this point and a cool visual style, but what really makes World Heroes' Mission special is the introduction of best boy, Rody. He instantly becomes one of the best characters in the franchise and seeing his dynamic with Deku is fantastic. Timeline-wise, this is the one place My Hero Academia gets a bit funky, as the anime deviates from the manga.

14. My Hero Academia Season 5 (Episodes 107-113)

  • Meta Liberation Army Arc

15. OVA: Laugh! As If You Are in Hell

What if our favorite heroes had to stop a criminal whose power made everyone around him laugh uncontrollably? That's the simple but sweet premise of this OVA, which is one of the funniest episodes of My Hero Academia. The villain is essentially a Joker type who makes everyone laughs and he is a treat to watch, even if the episode itself doesn't offer much that we hadn't seen before.

16. OVA: HLB

A baseball episode! A classic trope of the anime medium, and one that My Hero Academia does spectacularly. Sure, there are few surprises to be had, but that's fine, because the fun is just watching the wild display of Quirks used for something as mundane as a sports match.

17. My Hero Academia Season 6 (Episodes 114-138)

  • Paranormal Liberation War Arc
  • Dark Hero Arc

18. OVA: U.A. Heroes Battle

What if My Hero Academia turned into Yu-Gi-Oh? Bored during Winter Break and sequestered in their dorms, the 1-A students pass the time by playing a new heroes card game. It's essentially an excuse to show the characters battle each other (in a VR recreation of the card characters battling it out), but it is great "what if" fun – like seeing All Might fight… a dog.

19. My Hero Academia Season 7 (Episodes 139-159)

  • Star and Stripe Arc
  • U.A. Traitor Arc
  • Final War Arc

20. OVA: A Piece of Cake

Deku is a huge hero nerd, that much audiences have known from the start, but sometimes the anime seems to forget about it. That's where A Piece of Cake comes from, adapting a one-shot manga that's all about the 1-A students discovering Deku's journal with extensive notes about their Quirks, and having wild reactions to his tips, suggestions, and silly drawings. It's a fun rest in what's otherwise a rather bleak chapter in the story, and a fun side story where the kids get to be kids (possibly for the last time).

21. My Hero Academia: You're Next

The latest My Hero Academia movie has some jaw-dropping visuals and a great final fight. The story introduces fascinating characters, including an anti-All Might villain as well as a new protagonist that has great chemistry with our main heroes.

My Hero Academia in Release Order

  • Season 1 (2016)
  • OVA: Save! Rescue Training! (2016)
  • Season 2 (2017)
  • OVA: Training of the Dead (2017)
  • My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018)
  • Season 3 (2018)
  • OVA: All Might Rising (2019)
  • My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising (2019)
  • Season 4 (2020)
  • OVA: Make It! Do-or-Die Survival Training (2020)
  • Season 5 (2021)
  • My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission (2021)
  • OVA: Departure (2022)
  • OVA: Hero League Baseball (2022)
  • OVA: Laugh! As If You Are in Hell (2022)
  • Season 6 (2022-2023)
  • OVA: U.A. Heroes Battle (2023)
  • Season 7 (2024)
  • My Hero Academia: You're Next (2024)
  • OVA: A Piece of Cake (2025)

What's Next for My Hero Academia?

The My Hero Academia anime is reaching its end. The eighth and final season of the show will begin airing this October, but for those who aren't ready to let go of this universe, fret not. There are bound to be more OVAs or movies in the future.

Revisiting Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades

Did you know some Switch games are getting free upgrades for the Switch 2? Though most are only visual improvements (see more details about the free game performance upgrades here), a free enhancement is certainly welcome for some of the games that had performance issues on the original Switch. Below are the confirmed games (with guides!) that have a free day-one upgrade:

Other Big Releases on Switch 2

Though not entirely new, Hogwarts Legacy is getting a paid upgrade and games like Cyberpunk 2077 are making their Switch 2 debut. And not exclusive to the Switch 2, but Nintendo Switch Online members are getting access to GameCube classics like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Get guides for those and more by following the links below.

There are other big games coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 at later, unannounced dates including Elden Ring - Tarnished Edition and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. There's a rumor we'll see Red Dead Redemption 2 on Switch 2 in 2025, but you'll have to stay tuned for more news and announcements.

Nintendo Switch 2: Every Major Retailer's Plans for Launch Day

4 juin 2025 à 21:00

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to release on June 5, and almost every major retailer in the US has a game plan for launch day. For example, Walmart has already confirmed it will have Switch 2 stock available on June 5 from 12 AM ET (online and in-store).

Let's sift through the rest of the plans, from midnight launch events to pre-planned out-of-stock signs. Here's what you need to know going into the Switch 2 release day.

Switch 2: Speedy Stock Check

Walmart: Available From June 5, 12 AM ET

Walmart is taking a straightforward route for the Switch 2 launch. Consoles will be available both in-store and online starting June 5, with online sales going live at 12 AM ET. That gives customers a solid shot at ordering from home if they're quick when the clock hits midnight.

In-store stock will also be available, but there are no signs of a midnight launch event. Stores are expected to open at their usual times, so if you're planning to shop in person, you'll need to get there early to have a chance at walk-in inventory.

If you preordered through Walmart, your console is expected to arrive by 9 AM local time on June 5... assuming it hasn’t been quietly cancelled. Given Walmart's spotty track record during big launches, it’s worth double-checking your order status ahead of time.

Best Buy: In-Store Launch Events

Best Buy is planning a full-scale retail rollout for the Nintendo Switch 2, with special late-night store openings across the US on launch night (see if your store is participating here).

This gives fans a chance to pick up their pre-orders (check your email for collection instructions) or try their luck at securing a system on release night (confirmed, but extremely limited stock per location).

Participating locations will open their doors precisely at 12 AM ET on June 5, with doors unlocking earlier in other time zones: 11 PM CT and 9 PM PT for a two-hour window dedicated to Switch 2 sales and pickups.

Unlike some retailers, Best Buy won’t have Switch 2 hardware available online at launch. Consoles will only be sold in stores for the time being. Games and accessories, however, will be available both online and in-store.

Best Buy is also offering a limited-edition commemorative coin at these launch events, available to anyone picking up or purchasing a Switch 2 in person. The coin features dual branding from Nintendo and Best Buy and is expected to be in short supply.

Target: In-Store June 5, Online June 6

Target is taking a more straightforward approach to the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. There is no midnight event planned, and stores will open at their regular hours on June 5. Consoles will be available in-store that morning, with additional online inventory opening up on June 6.

To help manage demand, Target will use a ticketing system for both in-store and online sales. These tickets, which may be distributed physically or digitally, will be handed out in the lead-up to opening.

Distribution will stop once tickets run out or ten minutes before the store opens. If you want to buy in person, arriving early is strongly recommended.

That gives you two clear options. Head to your local store early on launch day and hope to claim a ticket, or wait until the next day and try ordering online once restocks go live.

GameStop: Launch Line Starts at 3PM Local Time

GameStop is allowing its customers to line up as early as 3 PM local time for it's Switch 2 launch events.

Even if you didn’t preorder the console, GameStop promises there will be additional Switch 2 units available when doors open at midnight. There's still no word on additional online stock, however.

It’s important to note that not every GameStop store will participate in this early lineup or midnight opening, so checking in with your local store ahead of time is essential.

Switch 2: Top Tips to Secure The Bag

When a new piece of elusive gaming hardware goes back in stock at a retailer, there’s no telling how long it will be available.

We’ve seen sought-after hardware sell out in seconds, and it's been no different for Switch 2 so far.

So, with demand at stratospheric levels for preorders, here are some key tips to improve your chances of getting the console at launch.

  1. Expect demand to be high across the board, this will not be easy.
  2. Keep this preorder guide ready with the retailer links above.
  3. Follow IGN Deals on X and Bluesky.
  4. Log in to retailer accounts: Walmart, Best Buy, etc.
  5. Have a credit card saved in your account.
  6. Be ready for virtual queues, site crashes, and checkout hiccups.

While Nintendo has also quietly confirmed the cost of upgrading Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree to Switch 2: It's £16.99 / €19.99 / $19.99.

Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories: Where to Preorder

Nintendo hasn’t touched the price of the Switch 2 console itself, but almost every accessory has crept up in cost. In a recent update, the company confirmed that several Switch 2 peripherals will “experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions.” Read: Tariffs mean that pretty much everything is a little more expensive now.

Expect to pay an extra $5 for the main accessories, including the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the much-hyped camera add-on. The Dock Set sees the biggest jump, climbing $10 to $119.99.

Still, if you’re planning to pick up the full ecosystem at launch, above is the full list of accessories currently up for preorder, price hike or not, alongside every retailer you can preorder from just below as well.

The Alienware 18 Area-51 Gaming Laptop Is on Sale: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling

4 juin 2025 à 20:50

The Alienware 18 Area-51, Alienware's new for 2025 flagship gaming laptop, is currently on sale. You can pick up a stacked configuration featuring an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti mobile graphics for $2,999.99 with free shipping. This replaces the m18 as the most powerful and feature-rich laptop in Alienware's arsenal and brings to the table a host of upgrades including a sleeker redesign, current generation components, and better cooling potential.

Alienware 18 Area-51 Gaming Laptop Starting at $,2999.99

The Alienware 18 Area-51 is by no means a slim laptop, measuring nearly an inch thick and weighing in at a beefy 10 pounds. It's intended to be more of a mobile desktop replacement than a commuter's laptop for toting around to work or class on a daily basis. The larger form factor carries several major advantages for gamers, like an expansive 18" display, full-sized keyboard with a separate numpad, and a bigger, more robust cooling system.

All three Alienware 18 Area-51 models are equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor. This CPU boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz with a whopping 24 cores and 40MB total L2 cache. According to Passmark, this is one of the fastest mobile processors on the market, going head to head with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.

Go with the RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080 configs

As expensive as these laptops are, you don't want to spend even more on trivial upgrades. The RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU boasts performance on par with the RTX 4080 but with the added benefit of faster GDDR7 RAM and DLSS 4.0. The RTX 5080 mobile GPU represents a healthy improvement over the RTX 5070 Ti for a nominal price bump; it's about 15%-20% more powerful than the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 4080 that it replaces. It also happens to be about 5% more powerful than the RTX 4090 and has the same amount of memory (16GB). Unfortunately, the RTX 5090 only appears to be just 5% more powerful than the RTX 5080, and its only real benefit is the 24GB of memory, which isn't that useful for gaming.

The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling

New for 2025, the Alienware Area-51 gaming laptop features a magnesium alloy chassis with upgraded cooling to tackle the latest and greatest heat generating components. This includes more fans and bigger cutouts enabling greater airflow, more generous use of copper, and a new thermal interface material to better transfer heat away from the core components. Dell claims that the laptop can handle a higher power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without raising acoustics.

Design-wise, the Area 51 emphasizes smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners. The hinges are also internally positioned so that they're nearly invisible. Like other Alienware laptops, there are ample RGB LED customization options so you know its meant for gaming. Connectivity-wise, you get three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, card reader, and RJ45 ethernet port.

4 juin 2025 à 20:40

The sales are plentiful today, but there are a few I’m particularly stoked about. Right now, a 27-inch LG Ultragear gaming monitor with a 480Hz refresh rate and QHD resolution is heavily discounted — competitive gamers rejoice. Staying on theme, a solid Wi-Fi 6E router is surprisingly cheap, and Woot has a killer deal on a Razer TKL keyboard. That’s not all, as you can score decent savings on a mini PC or prep for the summer heat with a low-cost portable air conditioner.

TL;DR: Best Deals Today:

Tomorrow is finally the day the Nintendo Switch 2 drops, and if you were lucky enough to score a pre-order, you’ll want to grab some of the accessory deals below. GMKtec M3 Plus Mini PC

$150 has been knocked off the list price of the GMKtec M3 Plus Mini PC, setting you back just $439.99. Those are decent savings considering everything packed inside this tiny little rig. For those after a multi-monitor setup, this machine is ready to support three 4K displays, and Wi-Fi 6 is built in for a reliable and speedy wireless internet connection. Not bad for a PC measuring just 6.45 x 6.14 x 4.13 inches.

This tri-band Wi-Fi 6E router delivers blazing-fast speeds, hitting up to 2402 Mbps on the 6GHz and 5GHz bands. That’s plenty for gaming, streaming in 8K, and VR. To get even more out of your router, OFDMA, OneMesh, WPA3, and VPN Server and Client are all supported

DuraComfort 8000BTU Portable Air Conditioner

Sure, the upcoming months should be filled with warmth and sunshine, but if you’re like me and lack central AC, you might dread being inside. However, a portable AC unit can be a quick fix, and Walmart has one on sale for less than $200. The DuraComfort 8000BTU Portable Air Conditioner is great for spaces up to 230 square feet, cooling between 90 and 64 degrees. Installation is easy, as the hose fits in both vertical and horizontal windows, while wheels and compact dimensions make moving the unit between rooms simple. To save energy, the air conditioner is programmable and comes with a remote control. For added value, it works as a dehumidifier too.

LEGO Marvel Captain America’s Shield

Make Captain America’s iconic shield out of LEGOs. This challenging LEGO kit has over 3,000 pieces, and the end result is an 18.5-inch diameter shield that comes with a handy stand and a Captain America minifigure. Whether you’re looking for a fun way to pass time or need a cool gift for Father’s Day, this LEGO kit is it. Right now, it’s discounted to its lowest price of the year, costing just $159.99 for 20% savings.

Samsung SSD 9100 PRO 2TB

This drive is wicked fast, reaching read speeds of 14,800MB/s and 13,400 MB/s write speeds, making it ideal for gaming and AI. Even when pushing these speeds, the 5nm controller boosts power efficiency, and advanced thermal controls are baked in, keeping everything running smoothly. Right now, you can score a great deal on the Samsung SSD 9100 PRO 2TB, as it’s 20% off for a limited time.

Nintendo Switch 2 vs. Nintendo Switch OLED

4 juin 2025 à 20:13

Price-conscious gamers have been debating whether or not the Nintendo Switch 2 is worth investing in, especially those who never owned an original Switch. And ever since we learned Switch 2’s exact specs, the burning question is how it compares to its predecessor, and particularly, the most modern model: Switch OLED.

If you’re considering an original Switch – and particularly, the most modern model of the bunch, the Switch OLED – rather than investing in a new one or waiting on stock to stabilize, here’s how the Switch 2 compares to Switch OLED.

Nintendo Switch 2 vs. Nintendo Switch OLED: Price

Being the newest and best-performing make of the original Switch models, the OLED is the most expensive of the bunch. If you’re stuck between choosing the Switch OLED and the Switch 2 with price acting as a primary concern, the Switch OLED is your best bet: It’s $349, which is $100 cheaper than the Switch 2’s $449 price tag. However, Switch OLED has been out for years, so it’s sometimes sold for as low as $279 during sales events. Bundles are also a great way to save money if you were already planning to buy the game, with the Super Mario Wonder OLED bundle available for its base price of $349.

Regardless of the Switch you opt for, it’s best to make the decision soon. The 90-day tariff pause lifts in July, and there’s no telling what prices will look like when they go through. Xbox has already raised prices across its hardware and accessories, with the Xbox Series X now at $599 compared to its $499 launch price. Nintendo Switch 2 accessories like the new Joy-Con and Pro Controllers also saw $5 price increases “due to changes in market conditions” according to Nintendo. It’s absolutely possible that any and all Switch models will suffer similar hikes. Still, based solely on a dollar-amount value, the Switch OLED pulls ahead here.

Winner: Nintendo Switch OLED

Nintendo Switch 2 vs. Nintendo Switch OLED: Specs and Performance

Nintendo Switch 2’s official specs were confirmed in mid-May, so we can directly compare those to its predecessor’s. Its Nvidia T239 SoC utilizes Ampere architecture for its GPU, which was featured in Nvidia’s RTX 30-series graphics cards. Its 1,536 CUDA cores puts it below even the weakest RTX 30-series GPU (RTX 3050 Mobile), but it’s still significantly more powerful than the original Switch. It’s also rated for 3.07 TFLOPs in docked mode, while a handheld gaming PC like the Asus ROG Ally X is rated for up to 8.6 TFLOP, making the Switch 2 far weaker on paper. However, optimization goes a long way for a console, and we’re still expecting excellent performance throughout Switch 2 titles.

The Nintendo Switch OLED features a Nvidia Tegra X1 SoC and utilizes Maxwell architecture for its GPU. Its 256 CUDA cores puts it far below the Switch 2 in power. Considering the console is 4 years old, it’s no surprise that the architecture lags behind modern machines, as it’s found in GPUs from 2014 (like the GTX 750 and 980).

The Switch 2’s RAM has also been buffed to 12GB through two 6GB sticks – 3GB are dedicated to the operating system itself, while 9GB are available for developers to utilize in games. Its speed is similarly improved, coming in at 102GB/s docked and 68GB/s in handheld mode. The Switch OLED has 4GB of RAM: 0.8GB is reserved for the operating system and 3.2GB for games. Its speed of 25.6GB/s docked and 21.3GB/s handheld is significantly slower than the Switch 2.

Switch OLED pushes ahead in one avenue, which is right there in the name: OLED technology is typically coupled with dimmer panels, but paves the way for more vibrant screens with inkier, deeper blacks. A Switch 2 OLED model is likely within Nintendo’s future plans for the console, but as it stands, those going for the launch model of the Switch 2 are stuck without it.

Switch 2’s 7.9-inch LCD at 1080p is an improvement in size and resolution, though. It’s by far the largest Switch yet, and the leap to HD is more than welcome. On the other hand, the Switch OLED’s 7-inch 720p screen is smaller and less crisp. Other improvements include 256GB of storage (versus OLED’s 64GB) and two USB Type-C ports, whereas the original only had one.

Nintendo Switch 2 is a newer machine with improved hardware, so the winner here is clear. Switch OLED users will quickly find themselves left behind in power.

Winner: Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 vs. Nintendo Switch OLED: Software and Features

Switch 2 and Switch OLED are largely similar in features, including their versatile ergonomic modes going from tabletop to handheld to docked, brought to life by detachable Joy-Con and a kickstand to prop the console up.

Switch 2 is taking those existing features a few steps further: The kickstand is now a U-shaped bar, whereas the OLED model was akin to a plastic plate. Switch 2 has upgraded to Magnetic Joy-Con controllers that are pushed into or pulled away from the sides of the console, rather than the OG Switch’s method of sliding the Joy-Con into place. Switch 2 also benefits from backward compatibility, meaning most Switch games can be played on the new machine (and some will get spec bumps and add-ons for Switch 2 – for a price, of course).

Plenty of new features are coming to Switch 2 as well: The Joy-Con function as mice and can be used as an alternative way to play games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. By dragging the Joy-Con against a surface – including your own hand or pants, according to Nintendo producer Kouichi Kawamoto – players can aim Samus’ weapons as if playing on PC. But it’s more than just an optional feature: Some games, like Drag X Drive, require it.

Switch 2 is trying out a newfound focus on community through its GameChat feature. The newly added “C” button opens up the GameChat menu to perform voice calls, video chats, and screen sharing directly through the console (whereas the original Switch required a mobile application for online communication). This is possible through a microphone built into the Switch 2, and a camera peripheral is sold separately for those interested in video chat. Unfortunately, GameChat will only be free up until March 31, 2026, which is when Nintendo Switch Online memberships will be necessary to use it.

The Switch 2’s additional features crush the original Switch without a question. Mouse functionality, GameChat, and magnetic Joy-Con on top of everything else the original Switch got right makes this successor soar.

Winner: Nintendo Switch 2

The Winner Is… the Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 is an enormous improvement in performance, hardware, and features. Switch OLED pulls ahead in affordability with its gorgeous OLED panel, but players will quickly find themselves locked out of exclusives like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kirby Air Riders. After all, the Switch OLED is a 4-year-old console, and investing this late into the game is a waste of money.

Besides, the Switch OLED isn’t that much cheaper than the Switch 2. It’s one thing if you’re interested in the Switch Lite, which is only $199, but if you’re going to spend as much as $350, you might as well pay a little extra for the $450 console that can play the old and new.

Best TVs for PS5 2025: Pick the Right Display for Your PlayStation

4 juin 2025 à 22:20

If you've been playing on your PlayStation 5 or have since upgraded to the new PS5 Pro, it's worth making sure you have a solid display to play it on. One of the best PS5 accessories you can grab is a capable TV that unlocks the Sony console's full potential. To help in your search, we've done the heavy lifting of hands-on testing and research, narrowing your selection down to nine of the best TVs for gaming on the PS5.

TL;DR - These Are the Best TVs for PS5:

The PlayStation 5 is capable of gaming at 120Hz in 4K and supports features like VRR and ALLM for crisp, buttery smooth graphics and fluid motion in even the most fast-paced games like Gran Turismo 7 or Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Grabbing a 4K TV that can keep up is an absolute must to ensure the action remains smooth while taking full advantage of all that the PS5 can do.

Our favorite TV for the job is the LG C4 OLED Evo, but we’ve found seven other stunning TVs rocking all the gaming features you could want while delivering vibrant colors, deep blacks, and bright highlights that will bring every scene in the best PS5 games to life. Whether you’re after the top-tier HDR performance of the Samsung QN85D for extra depth and immersion, or something a little more affordable but still keeps up with all the action, like the Hisense U8N Series, we’ve got you covered. Take a look at our favorite TVs for PS5 below.

Additional contributions by Sarah Thwaites and Danielle Abraham

1. LG C4 OLED Evo

Best TV for PS5 and PS5 Pro

The LG C4 OLED Evo features a 4K display that's even brighter and more vibrant than last year's stunning model. A high contrast rate ensures highlights pop and deep blacks while colors are well-balanced and accurate. We just wish Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology was used in the OLED panel to boost brightness further. But even without it, the HDR modes shine on this TV, delivering a more realistic picture whether you’re watching movies or gaming on the PS5.

If you want to make the most of PS5 games, from Alan Wake II to Returnal, the LG C4 OLED Evo delivers. It features four HMDI 2.1 ports, so beyond your Sony console, it’s ready to juggle other next-gen consoles and a gaming PC. When the PS5 is slotted in, you can take advantage of the screen’s silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate, ALLM, and VRR where supported, which is handy for high-intensity shooters. It’ll even push 144Hz with gaming PCs. The low input lag means almost no delay between the press of your PS5 controller and the action on screen. The impressively fast response time also keeps motion blur to a minimum.

Although we haven't had the chance to test the lastest TV in the C-series line, we did review the LG C2 and it's been our favorite gaming TV brand for years now. The LG C4 is only an improvement over the previous generations.

2. TCL QM8K

Best LED TV for PS5

TCL swung for the fences with this flagship miniLED television. It's bright, has outstanding contrast and color, looks just as good off-angle as it does straight-on, and it has an amazingly effective backlight and lens system that dramatically reduces halo (that's a slight glow around bright objects when they're set against a dark background – think white captions on black). It is the best LED-based television we've tested in this regard.

The QM8K is shockingly close to OLED when it comes to contrast ratio. If you weren't specifically looking for some small telltale signs of halo, you could probably be convinced that the QM8K was OLED. I've seen them side-by-side and while you can tell, TCL's latest high-end TV gets surprisingly close, especially when compared to other miniLED televisions from competitors.

TCL has also come a long way with its processing and it is very good at reducing artifacts that come as a result of poor streaming quality. This TV is particularly adept at smoothing out color gradations in skies and removes that "blockiness" that can show in low bitrate content.

This might come as a shock, but I would take the QM8K over some OLED options simply because it's less expensive and is better in sunlit rooms thanks to some incredible peak brightness. Sure, an OLED still wins when it comes to showcasing pure blacks, but the QM8K is just a more versatile television in every other regard.

3. Sony A95L

Best OLED TV for PS5

Sony decided against revamping the Bravia A95L with its 2024 lineup, but given how absolutely stunning this TV from 2023 is, we can see why. Its OLED panel is a standout among others thanks to quantum dot technology. So, in addition to offering the unbeatable contrast OLEDs are known for, colors and brightness are taken even further for even more clarity and a true-to-life picture. Blacks are rich and deep while highlights pop, allowing you to see details in even the darkest, shadowy scenes of games like Diablo 4 or God of War Ragnarok, especially in HDR.

Unfortunately, we haven't had the chance to review the A95L, but we were able to do some hands-on testing of the Sony A95K and found it to be one of the best OLED TVs on the market at the time. The Sony A95L has made a few improvements. Most notably to brightness, as it’s brighter in both SDR and HDR. So, even in PS5 games that don’t support HDR, the picture will sparkle just a little bit more and reflection handling is still excellent for easy viewing in well-lit spaces.

Of course, given this Sony TV will be paired with a Sony console, it has a few extra features baked in exclusively for the PS5 to make adjusting picture settings even easier. Auto HDR Tone Mapping will optimize HDR settings without lifting a finger and Auto Genre Picture Mode automatically switches picture settings depending on what is being viewed. For example, Game Mode will see lower input lag. And if you want to get into the nitty gritty, the A95L also has a bespoke gaming menu that allows you to stick a crosshair on the screen and tinker with other gaming-focused settings.

Aiding in your PS5 gaming experience are two HDMI 2.1 ports that support a 120Hz refresh rate in 4K, ALLM, and VRR, ensuring smooth visual sailing with minimal screen tearing as you play. We just wish all four HDMIs supported this technology. Also, given this is an OLED TV, motion handling is great, and there’s incredibly low input lag, meaning the press of your controller will reflect the action on the screen nearly instantaneously. And although you can’t take advantage of this on PS5, support for Dobly Vision Gaming is a nice perk.

4. Samsung QN90D

Best Cinematic TV for PS5

With support for VRR, ALLM, and 120Hz, we found in our extensive testing and review of the Samsung QN90D QLED that it provides a worry-free experience when tackling the best games the PlayStation 5 offers. That means screen tearing is kept at bay whether you’re scaling heights, driving race tracks, or fighting foes when your console is ported into one of four HDMI 2.1 ports. Samsung’s solid game bar menu lets you check in-game metrics and easily adjust certain settings. A gaming hub also provides access to cloud gaming services when you want to take a break from PS5.

The Samsung QN90D QLED has the gaming chops; luckily, its picture quality is just as great. Cinematic games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth look striking thanks to the QLED panel that uses Quantum Mini LEDs to amplify details and contrast perfect blacks against rich hues. Everything looks stunning from almost any angle. HDR only boosts brightness and contrast further for sharper, realistic images. There’s also a new AI processor for better upscaling of content, but the difference it makes to your picture is minimal.

5. Hisense U8N

Best Budget TV for PS5

The U8N is Hisense's best television and given TCL's comeuppance on the entry tier with the QM6K, it's the most reasonable option from the company where it still competes well. With a mix of excellent inputs, good color, great brightness, and approachable price for all these benefits, the U8N is a great choice for the PS5.

This TV gets blazingly bright with 3,000 nits peak. Most viewers will prefer to keep it below max brightness, but it's very good at overcoming glare if needed. The U8N will shine in the middle of a living room, whether that be at night or right across from big windows with sunlight streaming through. Hisense also layered on an anti-reflective surface to the U8N’s panel, further allowing this television to thrive in bright rooms.

There are four HDMI ports, two of which support 4K at up to 144Hz (HDMI 2.1) while the other two support 4K at up to 60Hz (HDMI 2.0). Thankfully, the eARC port is one of the latter, so you don’t have to take up one of the high-performance ports with your sound system and can instead plug in a PC and a gaming console at the same time. On that note, you do need to go into the settings and enable “enhanced” performance on these ports.

The U8N's weakness is off-angle viewing, but if you're planning to use this TV for single player games or if you mainly play online (not couch co-op), this won't be an issue. It's very well suited to a single user and it is a great mix of performance and price.

6. TCL QM6K 55"

Best TV for PS5 Under $500

For a truly affordable option that still delivers on quality, look no further than TCL’s QM6K – with the caveat that you’ll have to size down to a 55-inch screen to hit a sub-$500 price. TCL made some rather large strides forward in 2025 thanks to a completely upgraded backlight system across its product line. The QM6K is an entry-level option but because of these improvements, it performs almost as well as a higher-end option from the year prior. It's a great fit for the PS5 because it is the best inexpensive option for putting front and center in your brightly-lit living room. Even if you have windows facing the screen directly, the QM6K has the power to overcome that glare and provide an excellent gaming experience even in the middle of the day.

One area TCL really emphasized this year was its off-angle viewing, which is often poor on miniLED televisions that use VA panels. That is not an issue with the QM6K, and it thrives basically anywhere in a living room. That said, you'll probably be right in front of it, and there it's particularly excellent.

The QM6K supports 120fps gaming, which is a must-have for competitive multiplayer games like Marvel Rivals and Apex Legends. But even at lower frame rates, it lets games like Ghost of Tsushima and Elden Ring look top tier despite this television's entry-level positioning.

The TCL QM6K has broad HDR support, including Dolby Vision, HLG, IMAX/IMAX Enhanced, and HDR10 and HDR 10+. HDR gaming on the PS5 is basically a must and it's a bonus that the TCL provides so many options which open up the TV for other purposes like movies and television from a variety of streaming services.

7. LG G4

Best TV for All-Around Entertainment Hub

If you want the very best and you are planning to use your television as a base for all of your gaming, PS5 included, then the best option on the market is the LG G4. It supports HDR 10 and has four HDMI 2.1 ports, meaning you can plug a Nintendo Switch 2, Playstation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and a PC into this display all at the same time and every one will work at their best with no downsides (and it doesn't even matter which port you choose for which console, they're all top-end).

OLED's downside used to be brightness, and some OLEDs still can't get super bright (like the Sony Bravia 8), but the G4 has no such problem. The 65-inch option reaches around 1,400 nits in most cases, with a peak of 3,000 nits in some rare instances. Most of the G4 models use what LG calls Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology to get this increased brightness, but the largest 97-inch version does not, so keep that in mind.

With that boosted brightness, HDR content looks outstanding as it can contrast with perfect blacks thanks to OLED technology where each pixel is individually controlled. Not only does that mean outstanding rendering of subjects on screen, it also means instantaneous pixel response, which is great for gaming, and no halo effect around bright objects set against a dark background (so no mitigation technology like TCL's, which doesn't even completely eliminate it, is needed). LG's OLED panel is also extremely color accurate and is among the best you can buy today.

LG’s G4 is a spectacular television that, thanks to its boosted brightness, can excel in pretty much any environment. If you want one display to act as the center of your gaming entertainment, you won't find better than the G4.

8. Samsung QN85D

Best HDR Perfomance on a TV for PS5

The PlayStation 5 supports HDR, so if you want to take advantage of HDR content, you need a TV like the Samsung QN85D. It uses a mini-LED panel ready to deliver a commendable HDR performance thanks to high peak brightness and exceptional contrast. Blacks are truly black and highlights pop even in well-lit rooms. HDR game mode sees more blooming around brighter objects, but it’s still exceptional. Plus, with Auto HDR Remastering, SDR content can be upscaled to HDR similar quality, while an HDR Brightness Optimizer adds more detail to dark scenes.

Given you’ll be slotting your PS5 into the Samsung QN85D to take advantage of Spiderman 2 or Horizon Forbidden West’s HDR support, you’ll be happy to learn the TV also delivers a host of other gaming features, starting with four HDM 2.1 ports sporting 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM for buttery-smooth, tear-free action. With low input lag, the TV is ultra-responsive, and the speedy response times make for top-notch motion handling. Samsung even includes a game bar to display in-game performance metrics and provide easy access to different settings.

9. Sony InZone M9 II

Best TV Alternative for PS5

A TV may be your go-to display when playing on a console, but there’s a case to be made for the best monitor for PS5, the Sony InZone M9 II. The original Sony InZone M9 we reviewed was basically purpose-built for the PS5, with auto HDR tonemapping that worked with the console to dial in the picture. However, it was using a limited LCD panel that, while beautiful for its time, had started to show its age. Luckily, Sony followed it up with the InZone M9 II, a gaming monitor with a much better Full Array LED display that also adopts all the game-changing features of the original monitor.

The InZone M9 II is far less garish than its predecessor, packing a modern rotating stand that all but fades into the background, and it fully rotates, making it easy to place your monitor just where you want it. You can even raise, lower, and tilt the monitor to your heart's content – the InZone M9 II is truly an ergonomic dream.

Just like the original M9, the InZone M9 II is a 4K gaming monitor, but it actually has a faster refresh rate, clocking in at 160Hz. For the PS5, this is a bit of overkill, but it will be capable of running at 120fps in PS5 games that support it. And if you have a gaming PC attached to it, the higher refresh rate means you get even smoother gameplay out of the monitor.

It is a bit more expensive, but with a display as bright and colorful as the Sony InZone M9 II, it's worth paying for the perfect companion to your PS5 or more powerful PS5 Pro.

Upcoming TVs For PS5

At the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show, LG revealed its newest lineup of high-end consumer TVs, the G5 and M5 OLED, that comes with "four stack" OLED panel that claims to up the brightness over the G4/M4 models by 40%. The M5, in particular, also has new wireless capabilities in its Zero Connect Box that can loslessly stream any of your HDMI inputs straight to the TV, which fully supports 144Hz, 4K, and VRR.

How to Pick the Best TV for PS5

When picking a TV to pair with your PS5, pay close attention to important details that have a greater bearing on gaming, like refresh rate, display type, and inputs.

TV size and screen placement can affect your experience outside of specs alone, with issues like glare able to thwart your best-laid plans. We’d suggest testing the room’s natural lighting over a full day to avoid running into any problems. With this in mind, our list includes TVs with multiple size options so you can adequately find a match to fit your living space. When switching between sizes while shopping, be sure to recheck the specs to ensure you are happy with the details of the model.

TV for PS5 FAQ

Do I need a specific kind of TV for my PS5?

If your TV has a basic HDMI port, it will work with your PS5 for all intents and purposes. However, a TV’s specs (and what HDMI cable you use) can dictate the visual quality and allow you to access certain features such as VRR and Dolby Vision. For example, if high refresh rate gaming is important to you, your TV will need to have an HDMI 2.1 port and support 120Hz. Because the PS5 can also stand in as a Blu-ray player, you can get the most out of a 4K TV, but this is by no means a requirement.

Do I need a 120Hz refresh rate TV for my PS5?

While you don’t need a TV with 120Hz capabilities to enjoy games on your PS5, the higher refresh rate will allow you to experience a select number of games, such as God of War: Ragnarok, Fortnite, and Destiny 2, with greater fluidity. However, gaming at 120hz is by no means standard on PS5, with many top-flight titles opting for a lower frame rate that delivers a more reliable visual experience.

When do gaming TVs for PS5 go on sale?

In general, the best time to buy a new TV for any reason is on Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day every year. Both of these sales will have discounts on pretty much every brand available, including some of the best overall TVs for PS5 owners. Outside of those two shopping holidays, you can usually find TV discounts in January after new models are released or during various other holiday sales events throughout the year.

The 24" KTC 1080p 100Hz Gaming Monitor Is the Least Expensive Monitor We've Seen This Year

4 juin 2025 à 19:50

If you're shopping for a monitor and price is your number one priority, then have I found a deal for you. Woot!, which is owned by Amazon, is currently offering a new 24" KTC gaming monitor for just $50.32. Amazon Prime members get free shipping, the rest of us pay $6. The same monitor currently sells for $69.99 from Amazon.

27" KTC 1080p 100Hz Gaming Monitor for $50.32

The 24" KTC monitor boasts a 1090x1080 FHD native resolution, which equates to a respectable pixel density of 92ppi. You'd think a monitor this cheap would have the most basic of specs, but that actually isn't true. This monitor boasts a max refresh rate of 100Hz and is G-Sync compatible. It uses a VA panel with a 5ms response time, 104% sRGB color gamut, and 178° wide viewing angle. Both HDMI 1.4 and VGA ports are available. These are new units with 90-day Woot! warranty.

If you're considering this monitor, chances are you're pairing it with a budget gaming PC setup. If so, you do not want an expensive monitor with 4K resolution that will overly tax your PC. G-Sync technology, however, is especially useful for these budget builds, since your fps is more likely to fluctuate than higher-end builds and adaptive sync helps provide a smoother and tear-free experience. This is a good monitor to pair with a gaming PC equipped with a GeForce RTX 4060/5060, RTX 4070/5070, Radeon RX 9070 GPU, or as an external monitor for your laptop.

Where Is Our Mario Kart World Review?

4 juin 2025 à 19:30

Drivers, ready your A buttons, because Mario Kart World’s countdown clock is finally about to tick down! Unfortunately, Nintendo opted not to send out the Switch 2 for any early coverage, so my review is still in the garage getting tuned up. The good news, however, is that I’ve already gone hands-on with Mario Kart World twice, and when this article is published, I’ll probably already be standing in line to pick up my copy so I can jump right back in. (Sorry, Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer to get my 10 bucks.)

You can read my most recent thoughts on World from a preview earlier this week, but I also wanted to take a moment to briefly share who I am and why I’m assigned to this review. (Those who have been watching our video reviews to the end may have seen us sharing some context about our reviewer’s tastes and history there as well.) Earlier this year I took over hosting duties for IGN’s Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, and I’ve been excitedly reporting on Nintendo for roughly a decade. I’ve also been doing more and more Nintendo reviews for IGN, including both Super Mario Party Jamboree and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door last year.

I’m also an enormous Mario Kart fan. I’m not sure there’s a video game franchise I’ve spent more total hours playing than this one. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is my favorite entry – and in my top 10 favorite games of all time – and I’ve logged over 500 hours of track time there alone. That’s not even counting the base Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, which I proudly picked up at launch back in 2014 as one of the few Wii U owners out there at the time. (There were dozens of us!) With its gorgeous art direction, amazing track design, and impressive amount of content (including the return of F-Zero!), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe felt like the franchise reaching the finish line of the more-or-less linear Mario Kart formula that began on Super Nintendo, so I’m very excited that World is tackling something entirely new to this series rather than simply iterating on what came before.

I’ve logged over 500 hours of track time in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe alone.

Beyond that one, my favorites are Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and Mario Kart 64, which are the two I spent the most time playing with friends and family growing up. Double Dash’s two-character mechanic is such a blast and 64 is an undeniable classic, but I’ll also shout out the 3DS’s Mario Kart 7, which I believe is the most underrated entry in the series. I’ve always loved just playing as Mario in Mario Kart – which leads some of my friends to call me crazy – but I am looking forward to racing as the new-look Donkey Kong in World.

As I mentioned, I do have a bit of a head start here because I’ve already played a healthy amount of Mario Kart World at a pair of Nintendo preview events. I went hands-on with the Switch 2 and Mario Kart on the same day as their reveal Direct, and I was intrigued by what I saw from the new Knockout Tour mode – even though that initial demo was fairly limited. But earlier this week, we published my impressions from a more robust Mario Kart World preview event where I got unmitigated access to the launch version. You can check out my final preview while you wait for the full review, but there I said, “I’m confident Mario Kart World’s thrilling racing will kick off Nintendo’s eighth generation with a rocket start, even if I’m still not completely sold on its open-world exploration.” The combination of that hands-on time means I’m going into launch with roughly eight hours of gameplay already logged, so I can hit the metaphorical A button right after the “2” flashes to have a good boost off the line. I’m hoping to get our final, scored review published before the end of next week.

I’ll even be working on my review from the floor of IGN Live 2025, which is happening in downtown Los Angeles at The Magic Box this weekend, June 7-8. There’s a ton happening at the show, and you can come on down to IGN Live yourself for a chance to be part of the review process by playing against me. We’ll have an official “Game with IGN” setup featuring Mario Kart World where you can play against IGN editors like myself, our co-founder Peer Schneider, and many others – and if you see me on the show floor, you can channel your inner Pokémon trainer and challenge me to a race. (You can’t back out of a trainer battle once a stranger locks eyes with you, that’s just how it works.) Last year at IGN Live 2024, I had a great time playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe against fans that came out to the show, and I can’t wait to do it again – this time with a brand-new Mario Kart.

You can look forward to some updated thoughts on Mario Kart World in the coming days – and, if you managed to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, then I’ll see you on the open roads!

Michael J. Fox Says The Search Is On For Marty McFly's Lost Guitar From Back to the Future

4 juin 2025 à 19:12

Michael J. Fox and Gibson have officially launched a search for the guitar Marty McFly played in the Enchantment Under the Sea dance scene in the beloved film Back to the Future.

“We need your help, we’re trying to find the guitar I played in Back to the Future,” Fox told fans in a video released on YouTube to support the search. “It’s somewhere lost in the space-time continuum, or it’s in some teamster’s garage.”

Gibson, which made the Cherry Red ES-345 guitar Fox played in the 1985 blackbuster, also released a “wanted” style poster that asks: “Have You Seen This Guitar?”

Alongside Fox, co-stars Lea Thompson (Lorraine Baines-McFly) and Christopher Lloyd (Emmett Brown) encouraged fans to send any tips they might have to a website the brand had set up or to call a tip line. Additionally, Huey Lewis, whose music is famously featured in the film, also made an appearance in the video.

Ultimately, the search for the axe will be featured in an upcoming documentary the company is producing called Lost to the Future.

“We’ve been looking into leads and rumors for a long time, and as you can imagine, we’re talking 40 years ago, so memories fade,” the film’s director, Doc Crotzer, recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “We weren’t in the era of digital trails, or of receipts and things like that. There are conflicting reports too. You can find about as many different rumors as you can people.”

Gibson purposefully initiated the search for the guitar, which has been missing for 40 years, this year to coincide with the film’s 40th anniversary.

Speaking of Back to the Future, Bob Gale, one of the screenwriters of the Robert Zemeckis-directed Back to the Future trilogy, recently insisted there will “never” be another Back to the Future… anything.

Speculation ramped up after the co-creators of Cobra Kai, the TV series follow-up to the Karate Kid movies, discussed a possible Back to the Future TV series.

But Gale insisted there is no future for the franchise.

“I don't know why they keep talking about that!” he told People. “I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?”

“I mean, it's like they know in every interview people say, ‘Oh Bob, when is there going to be a Back to the Future 4?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a prequel?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a spinoff?’ Never. It's just fine the way it is. It's not perfect, but as Bob Zemeckis used to say, ‘It's perfect enough.’"

The Nintendo Switch Is Still Worth Buying, Even With the Switch 2 Release

4 juin 2025 à 19:02

The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially being released into the world tomorrow, but if you didn't already secure a preorder, you're likely going to have a hard time finding one available on launch day. Many retailers have stated that they will have some consoles available after the initial release date, but Nintendo has already started shipping out official "Out of Stock" signs ahead of the launch.

If you already have a Nintendo Switch and are looking to upgrade to the new console, you may have to wait a little bit longer to do so. But if you don't currently own a Switch console and want to start playing Nintendo games, there's no reason you can't still buy the older model and be happy about your choice.

The First Switch Is Still Great

Personally, I opted to not even try to preorder a Switch 2. I plan to wait at least a year before I buy one, simply because I'm still perfectly happy with my existing console setup. I think the actual hardware of the Switch 2 seems great and Mario Kart World looks really fun, but right now, it's not enough to convince me to immediately upgrade. I first purchased a Nintendo Switch back in 2018, it was an absolute game changer for me. Since then, it has become my primary gaming device and I've amassed quite the collection of both physical and digital games. There are multiple reasons the Switch is one of the best-selling consoles of all time, but I love it for the games.

All of the best Switch Games are still on the Switch

While its true that the Switch 2 has backward compatibility with most Switch 1 games, pretty much all of the best Switch games were specifically made for the original Nintendo Switch. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Metroid Dread, and many more are just as excellent as they were when they were first released. These games may have enhanced graphics on the Switch 2, but the fun of it hasn't been diminished.

Outside of the Switch exclusive games I mentioned above, there's also a massive library of indie games on the console that really don't require a high-powered console. Games like Celeste, Hollow Knight, and Stardew Valley are all excellent and run great on older hardware.

Some Switch 2 Games Will Still Come Out on Switch 1

While there are a lot of Switch 2 launch games that won't be playable on the standard Switch, many of these "new" games are already available on PC and other consoles. Outside of Switch 2 exclusives like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, some of the biggest upcoming Nintendo games will still be available on the Switch when they release. This includes Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Hollow Knight Silksong, and even Metroid Prime 4. These games will likely run better on the Switch 2, but you don't need the new console to play them.

Many other new releases can be played on other consoles

The hardware upgrade the Switch 2 brings makes it possible to play bigger games on the console, but you can still play these elsewhere if you have another console or a decent gaming PC. In my case, I have a Steam Deck that lets me play games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Split Fiction just fine. If you're planning on only having one console to play all of your games, the Switch 2 is an excellent choice, but it isn't necessary if you already have another piece of hardware with enough juice to play those newer games.

If you find yourself debating whether or not to pick up a Switch 2 or a Steam Deck, I'd recommend checking out our in-depth comparison to help you decide.

Is It Still Worth Buying a Regular Switch in 2025?

Now that I've gone ahead and publicly defended my decision not to buy a Switch 2 just yet, the question still remains: Does it make sense to buy a new original Switch in 2025? The answer really depends on your situation and what you're looking for in a console. If you're looking for an affordable way to play a bunch of great games, the Switch is still one of the best choices on the market despite its age. It's also a great first console for younger kids, especially with the more affordable Switch Lite console that doesn't have a direct Switch 2 equivalent.

If you're looking to play the newest games with improved graphics and performance, you'll probably want to wait to buy the Switch 2. It's more expensive overall (including the game prices), but you'll be able to play the latest Nintendo games and ports that are too big to be compatible with the standard Switch. The Switch 2 also has the addition of video chat if you purchase the add-on camera accessory, making it great choice if you're looking to stream games or play with friends online.

The final thing to consider is how much the screen matters to you. The Switch 2 is launching without an OLED screen, so the older Switch OLED model will still have a better display in handheld mode. If you plan on playing most of your games on your TV, this doesn't really matter, but if you really care about having an OLED screen, then the older model is still worth buying at this point.

Brawlhalla Tales: Nix Expands the Universe of the Popular Fighting Game

4 juin 2025 à 19:00

Blue Mammoth Games' popular free-to-play fighting game Brawlhalla may be notable for its many pop culture guest stars, but the game also has a mythology and cast of characters all its own. One of those characters now takes the spotlight in Brawlhalla Tales: Nix, an original graphic novel spinoff.

Head down to the slideshow gallery below for an exclusive 10-page preview of Brawlhalla Tales: Nix:

Brawlhalla Tales: Nix is written by Brawlhalla veterans R.J. Jost and Matt Woomer, with Jost also handling the art. The creative team also includes colorist Roshan Kurichiyanil and letterer Lucas Gattoni.

Here's Dark Horse's official summary of the graphic novel:

Nix, a freelance angel of death and the finest reaper of the Underworld, misses her mark at the hands of a rogue Valkyrie – and she never misses! She travels across the nine realms to Valhalla to reclaim her bounty, but the afterworld is not as she expected. Nix discovers strange enemies, stranger friends, and tougher fights than she ever imagined. Now begrudgingly teamed up with an unlikely partner, Nix will need to win Odin’s tournament of heroes if she wants to keep her job and, more importantly, her soul.

Brawlhalla Tales: Nix is priced at $19.99 and will be released on June 17. You can preorder the book on Amazon.

Last year, we picked Brawlhalla as one of the best free-to-play games available on the Nintendo Switch.
