The 10 Best Dinosaur Movies of All Time

30 juin 2025 à 22:30

Dinosaurs captivate all ages. The creatures that dominated Earth ages ago, populating our world for 165 million years, will always be fascinating. And, on screen, as part of movie history, dinosaurs have always been a go-to genre for incredible spectacle and chilling thrills - whether you're into t-rexes, pterodactyls, raptors, or gentle giant brontosauruses.

Dinosaur movies transport us back in time to the era of these wondrous reptiles, while other instances show dinosaurs living among us, either on a secluded island lost to history or as cloned beings brought back by science for our amusement (and dismemberment).

The Jurassic Park/World franchise has raked in over $6 billion in box office bucks over the past 30 years, proving that these glorious beasts can bring home the bacon. But which dinosaur films are the best?

Here are our picks of the 10 best dinosaur movies, from trampled theme parks to warring prehistoric titans.

Looking for more movies featuring giant lizards?

Jurassic Park (1993)

Um, duh. Yup, not only is Spielberg's Jurassic Park one of the best "dinosaur movies ever," it easily doubles as one of the "best movies ever." Adapted from Michael Crichton's novel (and second story about a futuristic amusement park gone lethally haywire), Jurassic Park is endlessly entertaining and infinitely quotable, providing equal parts laughter and horror. Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum star in this tyrannosaurus-sized tale about scientists evaluating a - er - unique family attraction before it opens to the public. Hold onto your butts, because this appraisal winds up with a body count.

See our guide on how to watch the Jurassic Park movies in order.

Jurassic World (2015)

More than 20 years after the original Jurassic Park (which wound up becoming a trilogy), Jurassic World kicked off a new segment of the franchise, with greedy corporations and opportunistic scientists learning nothing from previous tragedies and opening "Jurassic World" to patrons everywhere. Naturally, things go horribly awry and carnage ensues and Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard anchor a budding dino-apocalypse. The films would eventually bring back the original three stars but the first World installment stands tall as a formulaic but fun feast for the senses.

The Land Before Time (1988)

From George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, this Don Bluth animated classic blossomed into a decades-spanning franchise featuring 13 sequels, several video games, and a TV series. The story of a young orphaned dinosaur named Littlefoot, who embarks on a great journey to find a paradise called the Great Valley, The Land Before Time is a beautifully animated '80s staple. The saga teaches kids about the importance of friendship, the dangers of prejudice, and the power of hope.

Dinosaur (2000)

Disney's Dinosaur, the company's 39th animated feature, finds a lot in common with The Land Before Time as it also follows a young orphaned dino, this time on a trek to discover to the idyllic Nesting Grounds after a meteor shower devastates their island. A mix of live-action, many of the backgrounds were filmed on location while the dinos themselves were computer-generated, making it the most expensive computer-animated film at the time. Voiced by D.B. Sweeney, Julianna Margulies, Alfre Woodard, Ossie Davis, Joan Plowright, and Hayden Panettiere.

The Good Dinosaur (2015)

Though it's technically the first Pixar film to not quite meet profitable expectations, The Good Dinosaur is wacky, charming family entertainment, supplemented by the voices of Sam Elliott, Anna Paquin, Jeffrey Wright, and three-time Oscar-winner Frances McDormand. Like most animated dino films, the story involves a thrilling, meaningful journey, though this time it's within an alternate history where reptilian dinosaurs never went extinct. In The Good Dinosaur, a shy Apatosaurus, Arlo, meets an unlikely human friend while traveling through a dangerous and mysterious landscape in order to return home.

King Kong (1933)

Most King Kong films are good for a ravenous dino or two, so why not revisit the 1933 original and watch humans discover Skull Island, home of not only Kong but prehistoric life of all kinds: including the Tyrannosaurus-rex, the Stegosaurus, the Pteranodon, and more. King Kong is a classic, famous for being a true spectacle at the time with game-changing special effects, from stop-motion pioneer Willis O'Brien. Kong is still thriving today, as part of Legendary's MonsterVerse, with the latest entry, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, worth checking out too.

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

King Kong's MonsterVerse reboot began with Kong: Skull Island, a rollicking Vietnam War-era adventure starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodman as a part of a mix of scientists, soldiers, and scholars trapped on Kong's dreaded isle of terrifying creatures. In a twist though, the island's usual dinosaurs have been beaten and eaten by new giant monsters, unique to the film and the MonsterVerse itself. And it totally works. Separating itself from the Jurassic Park/World franchise, Kong: Skull Island gave viewers a fresh batch of nightmare fuel to fawn over.

One Million Years BC (1966)

This '60s British fantasy-adventure, from Hammer Films, starred Raquel Welch as a cavewoman struggling to survive in a fictional past where humans and dinosaurs coexisted. A remake of a film from 1940, One Million Years BC is a largely enjoyable, kitschy featuring dinosaurs (and giant sea-turtles) roaming a scortched Earth, brought to life by stop-motion genius, and Willis H. O'Brien apprentice, Ray Harryhausen (Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans).

The Valley Of Gwangi (1969)

Another Harryhausen home run was cult dino-Western, The Valley Of Gwangi, as the stop-motion pro took over the project from mentor Willis O'Brien after O'Brien passed away before production. The story itself was conceived by O'Brien and combined cowboys and dinosaurs as a rodeo horse is revealed to be a fifty million-year-old, prompting members of a Wild West show to venture into Mexico's Forbidden Valley in search of fame and untold wealth. There, however, they confront prehistoric monsters, including "Gwangi," a giant dinosaur that decimates their ranks.

Land of the Lost (2009)

Will Ferrell and Danny McBride turn a 1970s Sid and Marty Krofft TV series (which itself got a short-lived '90s revival) into a comedic romp in Land of the Lost, where a mysterious vortex sucks a disgraced scientist (Ferrell), his assistant (Anna Friel), and a survivalist Will (McBride) into a world populated by marauding dinosaurs and fantastically bizarre creatures.

And that's it for our pick of the best dinosaur movies of all time. Did you favorite make the cut? Let us know in the comments.

Upcoming Dinosaur Movies

Two new dinosaur movies are in the works and are worth keeping an eye on. The first is the next installment in the Jurassic World series, Jurassic World Rebirth, due to release July 2, 2025. The second is a bit more of a mystery. It Follows director David Robert Mitchell is working on a dinosaur movie, set to release in 2026, which will feature Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. According to rumors, the film has been titled Flowervale Street and is rumored to be about dinosaurs and set in the 80s.

The Project Hail Mary Trailer Spoils The Book’s Biggest Surprise - and That’s OK

30 juin 2025 à 22:10

We have our first look at Project Hail Mary, the upcoming sci-fi movie starring Ryan Gosling and directed by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and already one of our biggest burning questions has been answered: when are we going to get our first look at Rocky?

With the release of the movie’s first trailer we now know: right now.

Based on the 2021 novel by The Martian’s Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary follows the story of Ryland Grace, a reluctant astronaut tasked with traveling to a distant star in the hopes of saving humanity from a dying sun. Grace wakes up alone and panicked, with no idea where he is or how to complete his mission.

Enter Rocky, a five-legged space spider who Grace eventually befriends and works alongside in an effort to save both of their home planets from a near-certain apocalypse. He’s equal parts Chewbacca (a loveable alien who helps the roguish hero navigate the treacheries of outer space) and Mr. Spock (a scientific genius whose knowledge is essential to the hero’s survival).

The New Project Hail Mary Gives Us a Look a Rocky, a Fan-Favorite Character from The Book

Rocky shows up a ways into Weir’s novel and his appearance (and subsequent friendship with Grace) comes as a bit of a surprise. What seemed to be another Martian-esque solo quest for a human protagonist quickly pivots into a high-stakes buddy adventure comedy.

And that’s what makes the glimpses we see of Rocky in the movie version’s trailer a shocker. While we don’t get a full view of Rocky, we do see multiple shots of his arms and hands (feet?) along with indications that Rocky is a friendly extraterrestrial. And that’s probably for the best.

Not only are fans of Rocky (yes - there are many, if the cottage industry of fan-made Rocky t-shirts, art, and merch is any indication) given a first look at the one of the book’s central characters, but general audiences who don’t know the book get a reason to believe Project Hail Mary is more than just The Martian reloaded.

Project Hail Mary does share a lot of similarities with The Martian, Weir’s prior bestseller (and subsequent blockbuster starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain): solitary protagonists who undertake life-or-death missions far from Earth, complex (and entertaining!) scientific concepts, and lots and lots of space drama.

But Rocky is the main differentiator here. While The Martian’s Mark Watney is left solo (that’s kind of the point of the story) to, in his words, “science the shit” out of his desperate situation, the bond formed by Rocky and Grace in Project Hail Mary gives the story an added layer of poignancy, comedy, and drama.

As the story unfolds, the two characters use their complementary knowledge and skills as they face seemingly insurmountable odds - all leading to a conclusion that is at once shocking and completely appropriate. And while the trailer leaves just enough of Rocky hidden to allow for a little bit of surprise and wonder for when the movie releases, it reveals the perfect amount to get newcomers and diehard fans excited for next year.

The Lenovo Legion Go S SteamOS Gaming Handheld PC Is on Sale Today: More Powerful Steam Deck Option

30 juin 2025 à 22:10

As part of its 4th of July Sale, Best Buy has discounted both Lenovo Legion Go S SteamOS gaming PC handheld models for the first time ever. The more powerful Lenovo Legion Go S AMD Z1 Extreme SteamOS model is down to $779.99 (normally $830) and the Legion Go S AMD Ryzen Z2 Go SteamOS model is down to $549.99 (normally $600). I strongly recommend you opt for the Z1 Extreme edition; it's hands down the best gaming handheld PC so far in 2025. The new Lenovo Legion Go S was released in May of 2025; this is the first SteamOS gaming handheld that isn't made by Valve.

Lenovo Legion Go S Steam OS Gaming Handheld PC

If you can afford the $230 price premium, I would strongly recommend going with the $780 model. The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme is a significantly more powerful processor than the Ryzen Z2 Go (which we didn't like very much at all) and also includes double the RAM and double the storage. The Ryzen Z1 Extreme model is also more powerful than the Steam Deck. Since it runs on the same SteamOS client it outperforms the Steam Deck in most games. Games look better with more fluid movement as well, thanks to a bigger 8" screen with a higher 120Hz refresh rate. Battery life remains roughly equivalent, however the Legion Go S has the benefit of a much faster maximum charging rate.

The SteamOS model is better than the Windows model

There's a third Legion Go S model on sale. This model has the same specs as the more powerful SteamOS variant, but it runs off Windows 11. The SteamOS client is more user intuitive and better performing that Windows, which is a general purpose operating system that isn't inherently dedicated to playing games and with a controller by default.

If you end up getting this deal, we'd recommend picking up a portable power bank for extended travels and a Micro SD card. We've compared the Steam Deck to the ROG Ally and although the Legion Go isn't mentioned, the article gives you a good idea of the major differences between a Steam-based and Windows-based gaming handheld.

Everyone loves free games, especially when they are bundled in with something you were already planning to buy. Today is the last day that you can score Doom: The Dark Ages on PC via Steam for free with the purchase of an ASUS ROG accessory. If you've been on the lookout for a new gaming keyboard, mouse, or monitor, you can score both new tech and one of 2025's biggest games to go with it.

Although Amazon Prime Day doesn't start until next week, this offer is pretty tempting if you're in the market for PC gaming accessories and don't already own the game.

Get a Free Copy of Doom: The Dark Ages with ASUS ROG Accessories at Amazon

Doom: The Dark Ages took Doom to the world of dark sci-fi fantasy. The legendary Doom Slayer returns with a Shield in tow, and he's even able to fly a dragon. This game brought what is arguably the best story in a Doom game thus far, with humans and villains more important than ever. In our 9/10 review, we wrote, "Doom: The Dark Ages may strip away the mobility focus of Doom Eternal, but replaces it with a very weighty and powerful style of play that is different from anything the series has done before, and still immensely satisfying in its own way."

The game launched just recently on May 15, and if you haven't played it yet, this offer on Amazon is the perfect excuse. Over 20 Asus ROG accessories are included in this promotion, but you only have until the end of today, June 30, to claim this offer. Keys are delivered alongside order confirmation, and you can enter the order into Gamesplanet to claim your free copy of Doom: The Dark Ages on Steam.

One of our favorite items in this sale is the 49-inch ROG Swift QD-OLED Curved Monitor. This 1440p ultrawide monitor has numerous excellent features that complement its gorgeous OLED panel. Asus has a custom heatsink inside the monitor to ensure no damage is done to the display, so no need to worry about overheating. Additionally, you also have a refresh rate of 144Hz here, which is essential for playing games in a smooth environment. The Swift monitor is priced at $899 right now, marking the lowest price we've seen yet.

If you're just looking for the cheapest item, the Asus ROG Keris II Ace Wireless Gaming Mouse is your best bet. This mouse features a 42K optical sensor, ensuring precision across any game, and it only weighs 54g! Priced at $144.99, this is the cheapest ROG accessory on Amazon that includes a free copy of Doom.

Finally, another great accessory on sale is the ROG Azoth 75 Wireless Gaming Keyboard. This keyboard is equipped with an OLED display that you can customize to showcase audio visualizations, animations, settings, or even system temperatures. The Azroth 75 can be used via Bluetooth, wired, or via RF 2.4 GHz, with over 2,000+ hours of battery life with RGB lighting off.

Why All-Star Superman Was a Massive Influence on James Gunn's Movie

30 juin 2025 à 21:30

While the new DCU is still very young, it’s abundantly clear that this shared universe is drawing more heavily from DC’s comic book library than any before it. Some upcoming projects, like the Supergirl movie, Batman: the Brave and the Bold, and the Mister Miracle animated series, are directly based on specific comic book storylines. And even in the case of James Gunn’s Superman, which is telling a more original story, the comic book DNA is clear. Gunn’s Superman owes a clear debt to Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s seminal graphic novel All-Star Superman.

That fact was reinforced when IGN visited the Superman set in Summer 2024. Several cast and crew members pointed to All-Star Superman as a clear and direct source of inspiration on the project. But what exactly is All-Star Superman, and how is it influencing the Man of Steel’s newest cinematic adventure? Here’s what you need to know.

What Is All-Star Superman?

DC’s All-Star line was an early, short-lived attempt at recreating the success of Marvel’s Ultimate imprint in the mid-’00s. The general idea was similar - bring together some of DC’s top creators to reinvent iconic heroes, free from the constraints of the company’s mainline continuity.

DC only wound up publishing two comics under the All-Star banner before the line was shelved, but both certainly made a lasting impression. Frank Miller and Jim Lee’s All-Star Batman & Robin: The Boy Wonder serves as a prequel to Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, revealing how the Dynamic Duo came together and hinting at why their partnership deteriorated over time.

As for All-Star Superman, that book proved to be Morrison and Quitely’s superhero magnum opus. The series is set in a standalone Superman universe, one as much inspired by the contemporary Superman comics as the classic Silver Age stories and the Richard Donner movies.

All-Star Superman opens with the Man of Steel literally flying too close to the sun, as he rescues a group of astronauts and subsequently overloads his body with solar radiation. Even as he experiences newfound levels of strength, Kal-El finds his body is slowly dying, exploding one turbocharged cell at a time.

This discovery prompts Superman to start putting his affairs in order, starting with finally revealing his secret identity to a befuddled Lois Lane. He then embarks on the Kryptonian equivalent of the 12 Labors of Hercules, doing all he can to leave the universe a better place before he goes. And, of course, the incarcerated Lex Luthor is only too happy to take advantage of his nemesis’ impending death.

All-Star Superman is widely regarded as one of the greatest Superman comics ever published (see where it ranks on IGN’s Top 25 Superman Graphic Novels list). It’s also been adapted as both a 2011 animated movie and a 2025 full-cast audiobook. Unlike those projects, Gunn’s Superman isn’t a direct adaptation. As far as we know, this movie doesn’t deal with Superman confronting his impending death. But visually, tonally, and especially in terms of the Superman/Lex Luthor dynamic, there’s a lot of All-Star in Gunn’s Superman. Both place Superman and his supporting cast in a timeless setting and embrace many of the campier trappings of the Silver Age, like Krypto and the wonders inside the Fortress of Solitude.

All-Star Superman’s Influence on the James Gunn Movie

To get an idea of just how heavily All-Star Superman inspired the new movie, just know that Gunn assigned it to his cast and crew as required reading. Production designer Beth Mickle revealed as much during an interview with journalists on the Superman set.

“All-Star Superman is, by far and away, our guiding light for this,” Mickle said. “What a magnificent guiding light it's been. A lot of the color palette notes that I had, early on, really came from that.

Mickle added, “When I first started, James said, ‘This is the one I'd like everybody to look at,’ just to start to understand where his head was, and I spent three weeks devouring it, then screenshotting it, then grouping colors together, grouping the lines and the shapes together. And there really is the most beautiful, vivid, but also simple design language in it, and upbeat, bright, but again, simple and not overworked, not stuffed with color, not stuffed with layers. So, that really became our main source, and then you'll see throughout.”

Gunn himself pointed to All-Star as a huge inspiration for the movie, above and beyond other DC comics and animated projects. Gunn particularly connected with the idea of Lex Luthor as a supernaturally gifted scientist and inventor.

“There's a lot of ways in which the DC animated universe [influenced us] and then there's a lot of stuff from the comic books, but above and beyond anything else, it’s All-Star Superman. That influenced me more than anything,” Gunn said. “I mean, being able to take that sort of Silver Age feel, that sort of science fiction approach to it with the gadgets, and Lex is really a sort of sorcerer in a way. He's a scientist, but he's so good at science that I think of him as a sorcerer.”

Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult elaborated on Gunn’s vision of the character, revealing that this Lex, like the All-Star version is fueled by his hatred of Superman and his belief that humanity should be the master of its own destiny. As far as Lex is concerned, he’s the good guy here.

“It was this idea that when you're playing a villain, it's easy to be like, ‘I'm the bad guy.’” Hoult said. “But, actually, if you stand back and look at this, it's his beliefs and almost his love of humanity and protection, and belief in this idea that they should be masters of their own fate and destiny is important to him. And the rest of society has kind of fallen into this path of trusting Superman, believing in Superman and giving him, what Lex would view as kind of all power and freedom. And so it's like, where does jurisdiction and law and protection of humanity come into that, I suppose.”

Superman actor David Corenswet revealed that reading All-Star helped him understand Gunn’s take on the Man of Steel and better wrap his head around the script.

"I love seeing when he goes into his Fortress of Solitude that he's got a man cave, not in the way that... It's not a Bat Cave."

“I was frankly a little bit confused by James's script the first time I read it, and we didn't get to talk about it very much because of the strikes, until we got close to filming,” Corenswet said. “So the fact that he had told me even before I was cast that All-Star Superman was one of his guiding lights was super helpful, because the thing that I found in that was, I guess, the kind of gentle nerdiness of Superman. I love seeing when he goes into his Fortress of Solitude that he's got a man cave, not in the way that... It's not a Bat Cave. He's got his technology and stuff, but it's mostly all of these relics and fun things that he's gotten to collect because he does what he does, and he wants to show them off to Lois because he can't show them off to many people because he's not supposed to.”

Corenswet continued, “And sort of the gentle loneliness of that, but without any sense of dark brooding. Just really brimming with excitement about the things that he gets to do and collect, and wanting to bring other people into that and just not being able to. I really like Superman as a very hopeful character, both as a symbol of hope, but also as a person who just happens to have a somewhat rosy outlook on the world and think that things can be good, things can get better. But obviously that can be a constraint on him as a dramatic character because he can't always be happy and optimistic.

For Corenswet, both the All-Star version of Superman and Gunn’s Superman are united by a simple, understandable emotion - longing.

“The comic let me in, gave me this sense of the longing that he has, to share what he gets to do and to have other people enjoy what he gets to enjoy,” Corenswet said. “And the fact that he has to control that, because he can't be too open, he can't reveal who he is, that was the biggest thing that I [connected with]. And that sort of comes back to what I'm hoping there'll be a flavor of in this movie, is that longing.”

Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.

The Newest LEGO Architecture Set Is the Castle That Inspired Disney's Iconic Logo

30 juin 2025 à 21:21

The LEGO Architecture line of sets recreate some of the most iconic real-world structures, like the Trevi Fountain in Rome or Statue of Liberty in New York City. The next Architecture set that was just announced is the Bavarian castle Neuschwanstein, one of the inspirations for Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland (and on the logo). It's available for preorder now and will cost $279.99, releasing August 1 of this year.

Preorder the LEGO Architecture Neuschwanstein Now

The Neuschwantstein castle is made up of a whopping 3,455 pieces, so you might want to split this up into a couple of build sessions. It stands 12" tall, is 18" wide, and 8" deep, making it one of the larger Architecture sets. It's packed with details and is a pretty faithful recreation of its real German counterpart. The bricks that make up the mountainside are always a cool build technique, and the castle itself is extremely intricate. You can also change the foliage pieces out to reflect the different seasons, and comes with a brick with the name printed on it, making it a great bookshelf addition.

@ign_deals The biggest LEGO set you can get has over 10,000 pieces, and it's probably not what you expected. #lego #bricktok #bricktoker ♬ original sound - IGNDeals

More LEGO Architecture Sets

There are eight other LEGO Architecture sets (some have been retired), and they're just as intricate. The Notre-Dame de Paris is a beautiful scaled down version of the French cathedral, and the LEGO Eiffel Tower makes a great companion to it. Then there's the Himeji Castle set, another impressive recreation that shows off the imposing nature of the 14th century fortress. Personally, I'm still waiting on a Seattle skyline LEGO Architecture set. Make it happen, LEGO.

What Is Amazon's Preorder Price Guarantee?

If you've never actually preordered anything from Amazon before, it's worth noting that if you purchase this LEGO set at Amazon, it includes a preorder price guarantee. According to Amazon's own help page, this means that if the price decreases between now and when the item ships, you'll pay the lowest price.

This is $250 less than the previous best deal I've seen on the same configuration, and one of the best prices you can get for any prebuilt RTX 5080 gaming PC. Dell is offering a competitive price on an Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC equipped with the excellent GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card. Right now you can get a base configuration paired with the latest Intel Core Ultra 7 processor for just $1,849.99. Dell has just dropped the price of its flagship Alienware Area-51 prebuilt gaming PC, equipped with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card starting at $4,574.99 with free shipping. The RTX 5090 is undisputedly the most powerful graphics card on the market. It's the best consumer card for both high-resolution gaming and AI work thanks to its whopping 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM. It's also pretty much impossible to find a standalone graphics card for your diy build for under $3,000.

New Alienware Aurora 16X and 16 Gaming Laptops

Alienware's new mainstream gaming laptop for 2025 is dubbed the "Alienware Aurora" and comes in two 16" models: the 16 and 16X. The 16X is the superior of the two variants and it is on sale right now. For its Black Friday in July Sale, Dell is offering the best prices I've seen on both models.

Area-51 Gaming Laptops: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling

New for 2025, the Alienware Area-51 gaming laptop features a magnesium alloy chassis with upgraded cooling to tackle the latest and greatest heat generating components. This includes more fans and bigger cutouts enabling greater airflow, more generous use of copper, and a new thermal interface material to better transfer heat away from the core components. Dell claims that the laptop can handle a higher power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without raising acoustics.

Design-wise, the Area 51 accentuates its smooth contours, with rounded edges and soft corners replacing the squared off design you'd see in most other laptops. The hinges are also mostly internally positioned so that they're near invisible. As befits an Alienware laptop, there are ample customization options for RGB LED lighting.

32" Alienware AW3225QF 4K OLED Monitor

The best Alienware high-end gaming monitor deal is also on sale for Black Friday in July. The 32" Alienware AW3225QF 4K QD OLED gaming monitor has just dropped to $849.99 with free shipping after a $300 off instant discount. If you're looking for the best 4K gaming monitor, this should definitely be on your short list. This is a rare monitor that combines a native 4K resolution with an OLED panel. This monitor incorporates Samsung's QD OLED technology; QD OLED panels are brighter than traditional OLED panels while maintaining near infinite response time, contrast ratio, and black levels that OLEDs are generally known for. The Alienware AW3225QF is HDR True Black 400 certified with up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness. It also boasts a factory calibrated 99.3% DCI-P3 color range, 1700R curve, 240Hz refresh rate, and G-Sync certification. Dell backs this monitor up with a three-year warranty that includes burn-in protection.

27" Alienware AW2725DF 360Hz QHD OLED Monitor

The Alienware AW2725DF 27" QD OLED gaming monitor normally retails for $899.99, but right now you can get it at Dell for just $619.99. The AW2725DF is Dell's first (and only) monitor with both an OLED panel and blazing fast 360Hz refresh rate. This is easily one of the best 27" QHD gaming monitors you can get right now, especially if you're aiming for the highest frame rates possible in your FPS games.

34" Alienware AW3425DW QD OLED Gaming Monitor

Right now you can pick up an Alienware AW3425DW 34" QD-OLED gaming monitor for $769.99. The Alienware AW3425DW is a curved 34" with a 3440x1440 WQHD resolution, 0.03ms response time, and 165Hz refresh rate. It also uses a Samsung quantum dot OLED panel. If you're not looking for a true 4K monitor, this is one of the best monitors out there. The ultrawide WQHD resolution of this monitor measures out to a respectable 109ppi. You can get something like an RTX 4060 Ti or RTX 4070 GPU and achieve perfectly playable framerates. A true 4K monitor, on the other hand, would require a more powerful and pricier GPU.

Why pick a Dell or Alienware gaming PC?

If you're in the market for a prebuilt gaming PC, Dell is one of best gaming brands we'd recommend. The Alienware gaming desktops offer a staggering array of options, all built into a custom chassis that's both easy on the eyes and easy on the wallet. Alienware gaming laptops in recent years have been redesigned to be thinner and lighter while still offering the same immense power under the hood. Consistent build quality, available inventory, frequent sales, and solid customer service are the main reasons why Dell is at the top of our buying list for gaming laptops and PCs.

Don't Expect Streaming Deals on Prime Day, Look for Blu-ray Sales Instead

30 juin 2025 à 21:01

We’re coming up on Amazon Prime Day, which, in spite of the name, will actually be a four-day sales event. Prime Day 2025 is taking place from July 8-11, with most of the deals centered around Amazon’s own site.

Most of us are looking for any opportunity to cut down on subscription costs. As someone who’s been covering streaming deals for quite some time now, I thought I’d break down what kind of discounts to expect during Amazon’s sale. Spoiler: Not a lot! But media fans still have plenty of deals to look forward to.

Amazon's Already Rolled Out New Prime Discounts

Amazon Prime memberships are, as you’d expect, a big part of the Prime Day festivities. A membership gets you access to exclusive deals and the infamous benefit of free shipping. More importantly, on the streaming side, the membership also comes with Prime Video.

Prime Video might not be anyone’s go-to streaming service, but it’s certainly built up its library in the past few years. The service now exclusively streams original series like The Rings of Power, The Boys, and Fleabag, and also hosts a pretty diverse library of movies, with recent additions including The Accountant 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Ahead of Prime Day, Amazon has rolled out its new Prime for Young Adults deal. From here on out, 18-24 year olds can sign up for Amazon Prime at 50% discount ($7.49/month, down from $14.99). The new deal also includes a 6-month free trial, which, if you think of it as a free trial to Prime Video, is by far the longest streaming free trial available.

The downside? Given how close Amazon announced this new deal to Prime Day itself, I’d be surprised if Amazon Prime (or Prime Video) gets any further discounts.

Honestly, I’d Hold Off Until Black Friday

Prime Day’s an Amazon thing, and while other companies might join the bandwagon (see: Walmart’s version of Prime Day sales), I wouldn’t expect too many new streaming deals.

While Prime lets you add pretty much any other service as a “Channel Add-On” (essentially a form of building your own bundle), Amazon can’t really discount these subscripions on its own. For example, right now you can get the Starz add-on for $1.99/month (down from $10.99/month) because Starz itself is running a sale.

I don’t expect many other services to offer discounts. Netflix never has (and never will), and services like Hulu, Max, and Disney+ will likely hold off on until Black Friday.

What you can certainly bank on is streaming deals around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Highlights from last year included Hulu for $0.99/month, Max for $2.99/month, and a full year of Peacock for $19.99. I will prepare you in advance: These deals are typically limited to the ad-supported subscription tiers.

You Can Still Look Forward to DVD and Blu-ray Deals

While you might not be able to pick up a cheaper subscription, Prime Day will definitely loop in tons of discounts on Blu-rays and 4Ks. I'd argue it's one of the best sales for physical media collectors. Amazon has consistently rolled out “Buy One, Get One Half Off” deals on DVDs throughout the year, and it’s pretty likely we see some variation of this in the week leading up to Prime Day itself. Right now, Amazon is price-matching a Barnes & Noble sale on The Criterion Collection.

The marketplace pretty much always has deals on Blu-rays and new 4K releases, so I’d highly recommend keeping tabs on anything you’ve been considering adding to your collection.

The Alters Developer Confirms It Used Generative AI Text and Translations, Promises Updates

30 juin 2025 à 20:35

The Alters developer 11 Bit Studios has responded to fan accusations it used generative AI text and translation in the game, and has promised an update to both to replace the AI-generated content with handcrafted assets.

Last week, players of The Alters spotted what appeared to be text generated by AI in the game, on a screen in the Command Center. Specifically, the text includes the line, "Sure, here's a revised version focusing purely on scientific and astronomical data:" followed by a Captain's log, which suggests that someone prompted an AI for the text and forgot to delete the AI's lead-in response.

In the English-language version of the game, that was the end of it. However, players of other language versions began to point out that some of the game's translations include lines like, "Sure! Here is the translated text into Brazilian Portuguese.", suggesting that 11 Bit Studios had used generative AI to localize at least some portion of the game. The Alters does not include a disclosure on its Steam page stating that it includes generative AI, which Valve makes mandatory for all games that use the technology.

In a statement sent via email to IGN and published across social platforms, 11 Bit Studios offered an explanation for the generative AI text and translations. The studio explained that the Captain's Log text was intended as a placeholder and simply got missed during final release, and that no other such instances appear in the game. As for the localization, 11 Bit says that generative AI translations were limited to a few cutscenes added very late in development that needed last-minute translations, and that it always intended to replace them with professional translations.

Here's the studio's statement, in full:

We’ve seen a wide range of accusations regarding the use of AI-generated content in The Alters, and we feel it’s important to clarify our approach and give you more context. AI-generated assets were used strictly as temporary WIPs during the development process and in a very limited manner. Our team has always prioritized meaningful, handcrafted storytelling as one of the foundations of our game.
During production, an AI-generated text for a graphic asset, which was meant as a piece of background texture, was used by one of our graphical designers as a placeholder. This was never intended to be part of the final release. Unfortunately, due to an internal oversight, this single placeholder text was mistakenly left in the game. We have since conducted a thorough review and confirmed that this was an isolated case, and the asset in question is being updated.
For transparency, we’ve included a screenshot to show how and where it appears in the game. While we do not want to downplay the situation, we also want to clearly show its limited impact on your gaming experience.
In addition to that, a few licensed movies that the alters can watch in the social area of the base were added at the final stage of development. While those were externally produced, our team was not involved in the creative process, and these required additional last-minute translations. Due to extreme time constraints, we chose not to involve our translation partners and had these videos localized using AI to have them ready on launch. It was always our intention to involve our trusted translation agencies after release as part of our localization hotfix, to ensure those texts would be handled with the same care and quality as the rest of the game. That process is now underway, and updated translations are being implemented.
To give you a better understanding of what a small part of the overall scope of the game’s narrative layer they are, those few external movies are approximately 10k words out of 3.4 million across all languages in the game, or just 0.3% of the overall text. The alternative was to release those specific dialogues in English only, which we believed would be a worse experience for non-English speakers. In hindsight, we acknowledge this was the wrong call. Even more so, no matter what we decided, we should have simply let you know.
As AI tools evolve, they present new challenges and opportunities in game development. We’re actively adapting our internal processes to meet this reality. But above all, we remain committed to transparency in how we make our games. We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work towards that goal.

11 Bit Studios is just the latest company to come under fire for generative AI usage. Just last week, Jurassic World Evolution 3 developer Frontier Developments had to walk back its use of generative AI characters portraits after widespread criticism. Activision has been skewered repeatedly for its generative AI use, including recent examples of an ad for a Guitar Hero game that doesn't exist, and certain Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 assets. Other games, such as Palworld, have been accused of using generative AI but have gone to great lengths to prove the accusations were unfounded and that no generative AI was used.

Regardless of generative AI usage, we gave The Alters an 8/10 in our review, calling it "a highly atmospheric sci-fi character study mixed with simple but effective resource and base management that cleverly builds existential and interpersonal pressure throughout its story."

The Biggest Magic: The Gathering Crashers and Climbers This Week - June 30

30 juin 2025 à 20:30

It’s hard to believe we’re a couple of weeks into the Final Fantasy set already, and yet it won’t be long until Edge of Eternities arrives thanks to Magic: The Gathering’s rapid product cadence.

In the meantime, there have been more big card price changes, and many of them revolve around everyone’s favorite new card, Vivi Ornitier.

Climbers: Let's Talk About Vivi Ornitier

Vivi has been a very popular card since his debut, and the diminutive spellcaster has made a big impression.

He’s dropped to just under $50 now, but he’s still seeing plenty of synergistic cards climbing.

One of those is Savor the Moment, which gives you a double turn for just three mana. That then powers up Vivi, too. Market price is up to $9.10, over a 50% boost versus last month.

As we covered in our recent synergies feature, Harmonic Prodigy gives double Wizard triggers – nice! That means it's gone up by 118.70% in the past month (246.76% in three) – not so nice!

That's good for those that own the card, not so good for those who are looking to pick it up standalone. Still, market is still just $12.75 right now, so it could be a lot worse.

Moving away from Vivi, Tifa’s getting some love from Bristly Bill, Spine Sower. This Outlaws of Thunder Junction card can help power up our martial artist heroine, but at a cost of almost $40 now.

Another nifty synergy that's climbing is Perch Protection. This Instant has climbed from a dollar to almost $6, since it handily ties into Chocobo decks.

Crashers: Doctor Whom?

As we also covered in our synergies feature, Doctor Who's Barbara Wright is a great companion (in and out of the TARDIS) for summon-focused Final Fantasy decks, and she’s dropping ever so slightly.

She’s just now at $3.80, down from a $4.44 high a week back (albeit still massively up versus 3-months ago... 2135.29%!)

Final Fantasy’s Golbez, Crystal Collector has dropped to well under $3 now, as has Aerith, Last Ancient, who was $15 just a short while ago.

Kefka, Court Mage has seen a big drop since pre-release, but keeps climbing and dropping ever-so-slightly since. It’s just $4 right now.

Climbers Again? A Surge [Foil] in Price

Surge Foils, which appear in other MTG Universes Beyond sets like Fallout and Warhammer 40K, are a unique style of foiling that is significantly prettier than their regular foil counterparts.

Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER, currently has a $718.89 market price. Yes, you read that correctly. He has extremely powerful abilities, and is now a game-changer in Pioneer Sacrifice decks.

The market prices for some of these are obviously a little bit insane, but I expect they'll go down a bit once the hype dies down. Though, that could be a while.

Back in the old days of Magic (like ten years ago), single card prices were based mostly on their age, availability, and playability. For awhile, cards like Jace, Vryn's Prodigy were $100+ extreme outliers due to its power and prominence in that Standard format.

Now, with Universes Beyond sets, casual Magic fans buying into the game to chase these gorgeous treatments have driven up prices. Jace is now sitting around $4 since it's been a victim of power creep, but I'm not sure these Final Fantasy Surge Foils will follow the same trend.

MTG Sealed Sets

Everything else Final Fantasy is pretty hot right now, so if you manage to find anything in stock, it might be worth picking up ASAP to avoid disapointment.

Card-Based RPG Sultan’s Game Releases New Update and DLCs

30 juin 2025 à 19:48

The card-based, narrative-driven RPG Sultan’s Game just dropped its latest update alongside new DLC. There’s new story content, a downloadable soundtrack, new cards, and the base game is on sale for 15% as part of the Steam Summer Sale right now.

For those who aren’t familiar with Sultan’s Game, the story begins with a tyrannical sultan who has experienced every vice and pleasure life has to offer, and he’s grown bored. But then a mysterious sorceress arrives with a card game meant only for the realm’s most powerful people. Each round of the game assigns you a Sultan Card and tasks you with destroying it, but each card has different requirements to defeat it.

Cards come in four different types with four different tiers within those types. The four card types are Carnality, Bloodshed, Conquest, and Extravagance. You sate Carnality cards with nights of passion, feed the hunger of Bloodshed cards with living sacrifices, fulfill Conquest cards by capturing locations, and satisfy Extravagance cards with wealth and treasure.

Each card also comes in one of four tiers of increasing value: stone, bronze, silver, and gold. To defeat a Sultan Card, you must use a card of equal or higher value. So, for instance, if you need to destroy a silver Bloodshed card, then you must kill a character card that’s either silver or gold.

While the game is played with cards, in-world those cards represent real people, so sacrificing cards means killing actual subjects. As you might expect, this is just the kind of game a tyrannical ruler would love. But you don’t play as the sultan — at least, not after the tutorial. You are one of his courtiers who had the courage to call out the game for its cruelty and depravity. Your punishment? The sultan puts you in charge of playing the game and having to make life-or-death decisions to defeat each Sultan Card. If you fail, he’ll execute you.

The beginning of each round will see you draw a new Sultan Card, and you’ll have seven days to figure out how to destroy it. There are activities available each day, and you can choose which activities to send cards in your deck to do. But you’ll need to be strategic about which activities you do each day and which cards you assign to them. Seven days can go by quickly, and there are limited resources at your disposal.

Some of those activities require dice rolls to determine if your chosen cards are successful. When you end the day, text-based scenes will play out based on who did what, whether they were successful, and your rewards. The primary rewards are gold coins (which can be used to gain access to other activities) or information cards (which can be used for a variety of things), but as the game progresses, more events get added with more varied results.

Ultimately, the story will be shaped by how you decide to approach each task and how moral or immoral you choose to be. Will you willingly go along with the sultan or secretly plot behind his back? Will you stay loyal to your wife or spend your free time at the local brothel? How will you treat the strangers that cross your path?

No matter what decisions you make, butterfly effects will follow in their wake, some of which won’t show themselves until long after you’ve made the initial choice. Some decisions might seem innocuous at first, but the story branches they open can continue branching from there and end up with wildly different outcomes.

Many of these decisions will test your morality. That starts as soon as the game begins, when you choose the background of your main character and his wife. Are you kind and charming or strong and intimidating? Are you a slave owner (this is a sultan’s court, after all) or a more enlightened friend of the nobility? Your starting deck and stats will be determined by the choices you make during this setup, but the moral decisions only get more complicated from there.

We won’t give any spoilers here, but we will say that there are some truly dark and extreme choices you can make, and they can dramatically alter the course of the story and the things you experience in your playthrough. You’ll have to grapple with questions like, “Who am I willing to kill?” and “What makes one person’s life more valuable than another?” Some moments might elicit excitement, others fear, and others maybe even disgust. A single playthrough takes about 10 hours, but seeing every ending can easily run you to 150+ hours, so there are lots of different paths to take.

The story has an extensive script, and the latest update refined that script. It also added new Steam badges, community items, and 10 new cards crowdsourced from the community (pictured below). But the biggest new additions come in the form of two DLCs: a downloadable soundtrack and prequel story.

The OST features 15 original tracks by Zeta and international artists, and it’s a fusion of Uyghur Muqam, guzheng, and Western orchestration that’s meant to represent the cross-cultural atmosphere of the game.

The prequel DLC is a digital novella called A Game for the Sultan, which will let fans read the original story that inspired development of the game. Written by the game’s lead writer, it takes place in the sultan’s court, tells a standalone story, and delves into the origin of the dreaded Sultan Cards and how they first corrupted a sultan’s court.

Sultan’s Game and its DLCs are currently exclusive to PC and are available now on Steam. The base game sold more than 600,000 units within its first month of release and is now approaching 1 million sales during the Steam Summer Sale. It’s also reviewed well on Steam, currently sitting at “very positive” with more than 16,000 reviews and “overwhelmingly positive” with 1,600 recent reviews. You can stay up to date on the latest info by following developer Double Cross Studio on Twitter.

How James Gunn's Superman Reinvents the Look and Feel of Kal-El's World

30 juin 2025 à 19:40

Back in Summer 2024, it’s safe to say all eyes were on Cleveland, Ohio. That’s when production on James Gunn’s Superman shifted to The Forest City and transformed several downtown blocks into a facsimile of Metropolis, complete with fake storefronts and a facade of the Daily Planet building. The city’s streets were swarmed with onlookers and paparazzi, all hoping to catch a glimpse of star David Corenswet in his newly revealed super-suit.

Amid all this chaos and hubbub, IGN was one of several outlets invited to the set to speak with the cast and crew of Superman. We previously showed you what we learned from Gunn himself, but equally fascinating was our conversation with production designer Beth Mickle, executive producer Chantal Nong, and costume designer Judiana McKovsky. The trio shed plenty of light on the thrill of transforming a major American city into Superman’s home, as well as the challenges involved in creating a new Fortress of Solitude and a new Superman costume. Read on to find out what we learned on-set, and why the “trunks or no trunks” debate raged right up until the eleventh hour.

How Superman Differs From Man of Steel

Obviously, Gunn isn’t the first director to reboot the Superman franchise on the big screen in the 21st Century. Just as Superman is the foundation for the larger DCU, Zack Snyder previously launched the DCEU with 2013’s Man of Steel. When asked how this particular reboot differs from Kal-El’s recent cinematic adventures, Mickle told the group it all comes down to tone.

“I feel like that's the biggest change that I see, tonally, is the Superman incarnations that we're most familiar with, at least from the 2000s, have been heavier and darker,” Mickle said. “It was very much a part of the tone that those movies had. It just put you into a heavier, heavier space. I think what we really wanted to do was really brighten everything up and really lighten it up and make it hopeful, hopeful, hopeful.”

Mickle continued, “That's really what we blend with the visuals. And the tone, the lighting, the cast, I mean, obviously they're just radiant, effervescent, upbeat... It's far more colorful than any of the other Superman films will be, you'll see. And we really derived our color from Superman's palette. It's lots of blues, reds, golds, but then oranges and greens interspersed and really try to keep it in the primary colors, secondary colors and bright, vivid, saturated color.”

"It's far more colorful than any of the other Superman films will be, you'll see. And we really derived our color from Superman's palette."

Nong revealed that one of the other main goals with the film was to create a more timeless quality to Metropolis and its inhabitants, not unlike the Richard Donner’s movies or the DC Animated Universe. Superman may be set in the present, but the production design borrows liberally from many different decades.

“When you look up and down the street... the characters, the extras, the picture cars, the sets that we're doing, we want it to feel like it could be anywhere. It could be the '90s, could be 2000s, but maybe it's the '80s,” Nong said. “We do this contemporary just so that you get lost in the nostalgia of it, and it doesn't feel like precisely 2024 or 2025 movie. I think, like some of the leading words we've used are nostalgia, Americana, timelessness, bright, colorful, hopeful, and I don't feel like the superhero movies and definitely none of the Superman felt to that level before.”

“A perfect example is going to be our Daily Planet news office where it's this gorgeous, old, turn-of- the-century building, some great old phones. We brought in really timeless dressing, like tank desks and older mid-century desks, but that were just nicely kept,” Mickle added. “The idea is that they just haven't turned over and gotten new furniture in. But then the screens are modern and the phones are modern, and so it's like they updated the things that would have made sense technologically. So, the technology is actually what does keep us current. And a handful of cars that'll be in the 2010, 2020, a handful of those that'll make it in.”

You might be surprised to learn that the crew wasn’t focused much on establishing a clear visual tone for the larger DCU. Mickle indicated that this is one area where directors of each individual film or TV project are free to blaze their own trail

“I think the idea is for each movie to have its own specific feel and look and tone,” Mickle said. “But I think it was important for this first one coming out and for it being James's voice, and James's voice is often bright and colorful and visual. It was mostly sticking with James's tone, making sure that's what was the leading quote here. But we fully expected everybody else, every other film to make it their own and have their own tone.”

The Innate Goodness of Corenswet’s Superman

Gunn has been very clear on his approach to Superman from the beginning. His version of the Man of Steel is a fundamentally kind and decent guy living in a world where kindness and decency aren’t particularly valued traits. Nong told the reporters that this take is very much embodied in actor David Corenswet.

“This Superman is a guy who has never fit in, and yet there are so many ways that you can think about that,” Nong said. “But for James and for the movie, it's so much about his values. He's a really good, kind man. And if you think about goodness and kindness in the world right now, it's more anomalous than you'd like for it to be. That, I think, is really beautiful. And David very much embodies that. He's very low-key. He's such a good guy. He's always doing things for other people.”

Of course, it’s important that Corenswet be able to capture Clark Kent as well as Superman. Nong related an amusing story that illustrated just how much of Clark there is in Corenswet, even when he’s not actively performing.

‘We were in Atlanta [during preproduction],” Nong said. “I was in my office, and he had put his lunch in my fridge. And I was in a meeting, and he just… he's a big dude. And he was, at the time, gaining weight, so he was even bigger than normal. And he takes it from my tiny fridge, and then it's just like literally starts dropping some of it. I was howling, and then he just quickly exits the room and closes the door. And we were dying. It was just like Clark Kent just showed up in my office. And he hasn't shot a day, and we haven't rehearsed. That's just who he is.”

Transforming Cleveland Into Metropolis

Touring the outdoor set in downtown Cleveland was quite an experience. The attention to detail was immediately noticeable, with practically every street sign and storefront transformed into something referencing the Superman franchise, the wider DCU, or any number of other Easter eggs. The ever-present Jitters coffee shop from the Arrowverse was there, and there were subtler DC references, like the TV shop Quitely and Sons paying tribute to All-Star Superman artist Frank Quitely. According to Mickle, “every street name has lore to it, has something attached to it.”

Interestingly, for all the work that went into transforming Cleveland into Metropolis, that wasn’t originally part of the plan. Mickle revealed that Gunn and his crew originally hoped to film the city scenes in Atlanta, given that much of the interior scenes were already being filmed there. But once it became clear that Atlanta lacked the variety of architecture necessary to create a convincing Metropolis, they had to cast a slightly wider net.

“Back to the idea that we wanted everything to feel really nostalgic and timeless, we knew we wanted to have a nice architecture that went from everything to the cutting-edge glass skyscraper that Sharon Williams has just put up on the public square to the building that we're using right outside here for the Daily Planet, built turn of the century,” Mickle said. “We were hopeful that we could travel to a different city outside of Atlanta to shoot. We initially scouted Atlanta because that's where we're going to be based for all of our stage shooting, and thought, ‘Okay, can we try to make it work here?’ But they don't have quite as much diversity in the periods of their architecture, so that was a little bit hampering.”

Thus began a period of city-scouting, with everything from Toronto to Detroit being considered. But ultimately, Cleveland emerged as the only logical choice.

“Early on, we thought about Cleveland. We thought about Toronto. We thought about Chicago, Detroit. We just did a little research just poking around visuals in other cities,” Mickle said. “But Cleveland, it definitely had the mix of the architecture. Overall, Ohio definitely has the mix of the architectural periods, so that was always in the back of our heads. But then the thing that really ended up getting this here, initially, was in Cincinnati, the original Hall of Justice is based on the Cincinnati's Union Terminal station.”

Mickle continued, “We found that piece of research and just how perfectly matched it is when it has been shown in the past. So, we thought, ‘Okay, it'd be great if we could shoot that exterior for the exterior of our Hall of Justice.’ So, we came out and scouted it and just started walking around the streets in Cincinnati and know how similar it is to Cleveland. And we just thought, ‘Well, if we're already going to be here for a day to shoot that, why don't we actually do a deeper dive in Ohio?’"

Redesigning the Fortress of Solitude

The Richard Donner Superman films remain the gold standard where the Fortress of Solitude is concerned. At this point, even the comics have adopted that iconic, crystalline look to the Fortress’ Kryptonian architecture. As the various trailers have shown, the Fortress plays a significant role in the film. Mickle said that the goal wasn’t really to reinvent the wheel in this area, but to take the Donner aesthetic and run in a slightly different direction.

“We came up with our own re-imagining based on Richard Donner version where it's, again, a crystal palace and all comes up from the great landscape that we shot in Svalbard,” Mickle said. “But we've reoriented our crystal, so it has a different shape than what you'll see in the Richard Donner version. The exterior has a big monolithic, sculptural, asymmetrical shape that James and I really fell in love with.”

Mickle continued, “It was based on the way water and ocean waves splash and hit rocks and how there's just a nice big movement and projectile action that happens with water. And so the idea is that's how it came up and froze. Crystals grow very much the same way from rocks. They kind of come up projectile, reaching. Everything has movement. So that's very much what we brought into our Fortress of Solitude. That's what the exterior is. And then on the interior, we carry all that, the lines and the movement and the shapes. Those sweeping shapes all come on the inside as well.”

On the flip side, Gunn voiced a desire to have a Fortress that’s as home-y and inviting on the inside as it is cold and imposing on the outside. This is a Fortress of Solitude straight out of the Silver Age comics, with all the tools and gadgets and rooms fans would expect.

“James really wanted it to be a man cave. He wanted it to be very much based on the Silver Age comics."

“James really wanted it to be a man cave,” Mickle said. “He wanted it to be very much based on the Silver Age comics. It's where he has his laboratory. It's where he has a zoo. It's where he has a supercomputer set up. It's where he does his research. It's where he hangs out. We brought a lot of that into the design where it feels like it's kind of man cave carved into stone, with crystals coming through it. And a lot of the language for all of the Krypton technology is very Silver Age-inspired and has a little bit of midcentury wink to it.

Mickle added, “That was, by far, the most exciting, as far as the sets of what we got to recreate. And we all know, the whole art department, we're like, ‘We peeked. It doesn't get better.’ All from design, the direction, the recreating, the Fortress of Solitude, that's literally, there's just nowhere to go from here.”

Creating the Kent Farm

Superman also introduces its own take on the Kent family farm, with Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell portraying Clark’s parents. This is one area where Gunn wanted to strike a very different tone from the typically vast, Rockwellian versions of the Kent farm in previous adaptations. This farm is small and humble, perfect for conveying Clark’s humble origins.

“James was really clear that he wanted the Kent farm and the homestead to be a big departure from what we've seen before,” Mickle said. “We didn't want it to be this idyllic two-story farmhouse with a wraparound front porch and gloriously maintained, just magically, wonderfully, hundreds of acres beautifully maintained by two older folks. He wanted it to actually feel like a very modest but very well-loved homestead. And he had said really early on - single level, small, simple, nothing overly adorned.”

Just as with the hunt for Metropolis, finding the right farm to transform into the Kent homestead took some doing, but the crew eventually found what they were looking for in LaGrange, Georgia.

“We found this fantastic location where the old original farmhouse for the homestead was down the road, but then this was this old kind of a caretaker's ranch house that they had put across the road on the property, but it's still surrounded by hundreds of acres of fields just like you'd expect,” Mickle said. “And it just happened to be empty at the time, that house. It had belonged to the father of the family who had passed away a few years before, but the family really wanted to rehab it, get it back into better shape, do something with it. They weren't sure what to do with it.”

Mickle continued, “And then we came along. It's one of those beautiful stories. We went in. We really tidied up. We mitigated any of the issues. We took care of some leaky areas and kept the old shed carpet just because it had that old great timelessness, and then really embraced a lot of what was already there, which was really great.”

Supermans Costume: The Great Trunks Debate

Gunn also had some clear ideas about Superman’s costume coming into the project. As McKovsky revealed, Gunn was very adamant that he wanted the costumes in the film to be functional, not skintight spandex. They needed to look like legitimate uniforms the characters put on when they go to work, and that’s especially true for Superman himself.

“I think the thought behind the costume is to not overthink it,” McKovsky said. “It is not a fake muscle suit. It isn't muscles built into some fake suit. Again making Superman very relatable. It's David. And it is a suit. It is a uniform. He puts it on to go fight. It isn't a magic suit. James was very adamant that it is a uniform that he goes out to fight in. It is clothing.”

That fact is reflected in the textures and materials used for the costume. Corenswet’s costume was sewn from wool, a material chosen after some trial-and-error.

“It is heavy. It is wool,” McKovsky said. “The fabric is a real fabric. We went through many things. It's kind of a printed stretch, but it has some cotton in it. We started more cotton stretch, and it was a little too wrinkly and not fitted. We went through many fabrics.”

McKovsky continued, “It's a very thin stretch that then has a print to give it a texture because James was very adamant it had a texture and not just flat to make it more modern. That always makes it look a little thicker than the fabric actually is. But I mean it has a little structure in the suit, but not muscle. There's no muscles on the suit. It's David.”

One thing Gunn wasn’t so clear on was whether or not Superman’s iconic red trunks should be a part of his uniform. Many recent live-action Superman suits have shied away from the trunks, adopting a more modern, New 52-inspired look. McKovsky told reporters that the debate raged for a long time, saying “It was a large discussion that went on literally till the night before we shot.”

“I do not do social media, but I do know the amount of tension,” McKovsky said. “And it was also a big deal for us whether it was trunks or no trunks. It was a constant poll amongst everybody, ‘Trunks or no trunks?’ And then we would end up no trunk. And getting the trunks to where we all thought they worked and made sense with this costume was a long... We tried many things, many things.”

For her part, McKovsky was firmly in the pro-trunks camp, and she was determined to make the design work.

"Literally, the night before everybody went to Greenland, we looked at it, we shot it, and the minute we saw it, everybody had the same thought.”

“I actually have to admit, I would not give up,” McKovsky said. “I'm going to do my best to make sure they work if we want them, because I'll be the first to say, ‘It doesn't work with this suit,’ but I just refused to give up. And literally, the night before everybody went to Greenland, we looked at it, we shot it, and the minute we saw it, everybody had the same thought.”

What convinced them? McKovsky said that the costume ultimately seemed to be missing something crucial without the trunks to provide balance.

“I think it was just the way it's made and that it's the same kind of weight and that it is close to the original Superman design,” McKovsky said. “It just, it didn't look like Superman without the trunks. It just looked like a blue suit, honestly. It was very interesting. And it was very divided among the crew, very divided. But it's something about we took them off on the last night, and then put them back on, and everyone went, ‘Oh, it's just a blue suit with an S on it.’"

As for Corenswet’s Clark Kent look, McKovsky said that the trick was creating a more frazzled, harried look and portraying Clark as someone who dresses a little bit old-fashioned, highlighting the fact that he’s not full in step with our modern, cynical world.

“I mean, Clark is Clark,” McKovsky said. “The one thing, again, he's not very comfortable, so his clothes don't fit very well. He's not a glamorous Clark Kent. He's kind of goofy, frankly. And his clothes, they're a little old-fashioned. They don't fit well because he doesn't fit well. It was a deliberate choice to have it be kind of not, but it is, I will say right out of the comic.”

Clark’s glasses proved to be one of the most important elements. They are, after all, the closest thing he has to a mask, and the challenge was finding just the right style for a bumbling reporter hiding the fact that he’s also an all-powerful superhero.

“We've tried quite a few,” McKovsky said. “We narrowed it down on the first try that we got this pair of glasses. They're sort of vintage, but they're not. They're modern, but they give a sort of '70s vibe. I mean, James, on this movie, the sensibility is it's a modern-day movie. They have cell phones, there's all of that, but it is classic. We probably talked about this, that the sensibility is very '60s, '70s in it, almost a little '30s at times too.”

McKovsky added, “But it's very '60s, '70s, so his glasses have a little bit of a '70s feel, but they're not. They also don't overwhelm his face. I mean, that was a hard thing. You don't want it to be about the glasses. There's a story point here. They have to look like they're natural to him.”

Designing the Other Costumes in Superman

McKovsky had plenty to say about designing the other costumes in the film. Read on for a breaksdown of some of the major characters and how their comic book costumes translated into live-action.

The Engineer

McKovsky: The Engineer was challenging. I've done quite a few of these movies, and I wanted to do something new. So, the material that we make, I have to say, it's pretty beautiful. It's like this weird, reedy thing under a laser cut, so it comes through. At times, you can see where it comes through from your skin. But I think that was a challenge, how to make that actually work, and be a sexy suit, and still do all the things in the movie that it has to do.

It was, again, working with everyone and , "How do we give a leg up to visual effects so they don't have to do everything?" Because James, the more practical, that's what he wants. He wants the least amount. I mean, of course he's added a lot of visual effects. And we rely on Steph [Ceretti] for everything, but we help him, so he doesn't have to do [everything].

It's not like we're just going to put a MoCap suit on everyone, as in other movies. We don't do that. We make a good base so that they can then take it. And all these suits function. They have a function, so we try and help that.

Guy Gardner

McKovsky: Again, it's clothing. I will say, when I talk to James, he thinks of all superheroes as clothing. He doesn't think of it as some glued-on skin-tight [thing]. He never has in all the movies I've done with him. He doesn't see them that way. He sees them, even though they're superheroes or they could be slightly alien, as human. You want to relate to them. And I think he feels like you can relate to characters more if it's more clothing-based, so I think that's how he looked at all those characters, that it's clothing.

We all start looking at the comic, and we look at all the iterations that have been in the comic, and we go, "Yeah, it's great in a comic. It's not going to work." And also, if the character is funny, you don't need to make funny clothes. Let them be funny. Because there is a heroic part of them, for sure.

I think that's kind of... I mean, I do that anyway. Okay, Chris Evans always says that, "You don't put a hat on a hat." So, if it's already one thing, you don't need to push it and make it funnier or make a caricature. That character could so easily go caricature, and we decided to not go that way at all. Just let Nathan be the Green Lantern.

Lois Lane

McKovsky: Lois, in particular, was an interesting journey. She's a real reporter. It's not about fashion. She's an on-the-ground out there reporter, and it's very low-key. Her clothes, they're very functional. It's not a fashion statement, at all. They're very simple clothes. It's someone who would really go out.

I mean, this movie is very grounded. Having done these movies before, the more grounded you make them, the more you can relate to the characters. If they're so out there, then they're just comic. With Lois, particularly, we kept it really low-key for sure.

Hawkgirl

McKovsky: Hawkgirl was really difficult, actually. I think Hawkgirl was probably the hardest thing to do because there's so many iterations of Hawkgirl. She's got so many backstories. It's like, which one works with this movie?

We went with the approach that they're kind of coordinated, It's a team, and sort of a team. But it's nothing like the comic, except she does have a helmet, which is very comic-based. But any of those iterations, also, I just don't think they would have made the best costume for a movie that's reality-based, so we kind of went away from it. But, again, it was a thing, helmet, no helmet, helmet, no helmet. I'm like, "Helmet. I'm making a helmet." And they go, "I don't think we're ever going to use the helmet." "I'm making a helmet."

So, we made the helmet. I thought, "Oh, we're using the helmet." Because it's pretty cool. When you see the silhouette in the sky, then you really know it's Hawkgirl.

Mr. Terrific

McKovsky: I would say Mr. Terrific is the one closest to the comic, for sure. It's such a great image. And he's the one guy, he's so cool that he can have a suit that looks like a little superhero. Everything on him is very branded. He's got Ts on everything because that's who he is.

And I think that is the one, even though we updated a little, he's got these very cool sneaker boots, and that weren't easy to make and get all the lines to match up. That was a little why-did-I-do-that moment, "Why did I have the lines go right down through the boot?" But he's such a hipster cool guy.

The Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 5080 Gaming PC Drops to $2,100 During the Dell Black Friday in July Sale

30 juin 2025 à 19:15

Alienware's Black Friday in July Sale has officially kicked off, and one of the best deals I've seen so far is this Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 5080 gaming PC for just $2,099.99 shipped. This is $250 less than the previous best deal I've seen on the same configuration, and one of the best prices you can get for any prebuilt RTX 5080 gaming PC. The Alienware Aurora R16 is a well-engineered and compact gaming rig with 240mm AIO water cooling, sensible airflow design, and a generous 1,000W 80Plus Platinum rated power supply. In the current market, buying a prebuilt gaming PC is the only way to score an RTX 5080 GPU without paying an exorbitant markup. If you were to try to find a 5080 GPU for your do-it-yourself PC build, you'll probably spend $1,400 for the graphics card alone.

Alienware Aurora RTX 5080 Gaming PC From $2,099.99

This system is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F processor, GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card, 16GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM, and a 1TB M.2 SSD. Note that this is a customizable configuration so you can upgrade the CPU and GPU or increase your memory or storage capacity. It's pre-configured with a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooling solution.

The Core Ultra 7 265F is part of Intel's newest Arrow Lake-S lineup released earlier this year and boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz with 20 cores and a 36MB L2 cache. This is an excellent all-around CPU for gaming, multi-tasking, and general workstation performance. For gaming, you won't see any improvement upgrading to a Core Ultra 9.

The GeForce RTX 5080 GPU will run any game in 4K

The RTX 5080 is the second best Blackwell graphics card, surpassed only by the $2,000 RTX 5090. It's about 5%-10% faster than the previous generation RTX 4080 Super, which is discontinued and no longer available. In games that support the new DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation exclusive to Blackwell cards, the gap widens. This is an outstanding card for playing even the latest games at 4K resolution with high settings and ray tracing enabled.

Check out our Best Alienware Deals article with all of Dell's currently ongoing deals on gaming laptops and desktop PCs. Not everyone is the DIY type. If you're in the market for a prebuilt gaming PC, Dell is one of the best brands we'd recommend. Alienware desktops and laptops feature solid build quality, top-of-the-line gaming performance, excellent cooling (further improved on the newer models), aggressive styling, and pricing that is very competitive with other pre-built options. Best of all, there are plenty of sales that happen throughout the year, so it's not difficult to grab one of these computers at considerably less than their retail price.

Daredevil Star Replies to Fan Claiming Born Again 'Nerfed' Kingpin, and It's as Cool Yet Damning a Response as You'd Expect: 'I Disagree With All That You Say'

30 juin 2025 à 19:12

Daredevil's Kingpin, Vincent D'Onofrio, has responded to a fan's complaints about the character as seen in Disney+ series Born Again — and while polite, it's as cool a reaction as you'd expect to come from Wilson Fisk himself.

D'Onofrio returned alongside series star Charlie Cox for Daredevil: Born Again, which picks up D'Onofrio and Cox's characters several years after they were last seen in Netflix's abruptly-cancelled Daredevil show, and following their reintroduction into the MCU in other projects.

But while many fans were delighted to see the characters squaring off against each other on screen once more, you can't please everyone. And one of those viewers with complaints decided to share them directly with D'Onofrio via social media, drawing the actor's attention.

"Wilson Fisk got nerfed like the Hulk," said the fan, in response to a post by D'Onofrio. "Not your fault Disney didn't rehire the writers from the Netflix show. Hope Season 2 returns to what made the Netflix show so damn good. But Disney has a track record of ruining reboots."

The message was quickly spotted by the Kingpin actor, who offered this in response:

"I have to say I disagree with all that you say. To be honest my performances have been called many things but never nerfed. Lol. Yet I don't play the part just for you and you don't watch TV just for me. So we are even and I accept your criticism. No matter the lack of good sportsmanship, fairness and legitimacy."

Honestly, it's difficult not to read D'Onofrio's words in his Kingpin voice. Most would have stopped responding there, but the fan continued, further criticising "Disney Fisk" by suggesting "Netflix Fisk would never have a guy locked in cage [sic]. Fisk would've killed him, his family, friends and coworkers."

Step up D'Onofrio again, with a further response:

"I control my characters performance," he wrote. "You are a bit green when it comes to your knowledge on making a show. The detail, the writing, the technologies and the overall structure and architecture in laying out the storyline and executing performances. You keep saying it's the writing that is the problem. You may not like it. Many do though. We can't please everyone but we can please millions and they've said so. Our fans are very loud.

"Let's say I were you and I hated the portrayal of Kingpin as much as you do. I'd stay away from it. I'd champion storytelling that I love instead of dragging writers and someone's performance. As an actor I fail in my eyes everyday and also in my past work many times but I keep trying to get it right. All creative types have that in common. What we don't do is try and ruin millions of others fun when we don't like a piece. Instead we champion the stuff we do like and become inspired by it. Try it. It makes life so much more sustainable and yes, inspiring."

Oof.

Daredevil: Born Again will be back on Disney+ with new episodes next year, including the return of Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, and yes, more Kingpin versus Daredevil action.

What can you watch on Hulu?

There is a bonkers amount of shows and movies you can watch on Hulu. Let's start at the top and simply talk about the verticals on offer with the base subscription, because if we also talk about what is available via Disney+, ESPN+, or live TV, we'll be here forever. (You can also sync up Hulu with Max to gain access to things like The Last of Us and House of the Dragon.)

Here's what you get:

  • Network and Hulu Original television shows (AMC, Adult Swim, ABC, A&E, FX, etc.)
  • Movies (HBO, Hulu Originals, anime films, etc.)
  • Sports (NHL, Soccer, MLB, Auto Racing, NFL, College Football, PGA, Tennis, etc.)
  • News (ABC News Live, Good Morning America, World News Tonight, 20/20, The View, etc.)

Hulu television

Hulu has some amazing shows, both those that are finished and many which are ongoing. For comedy, there are plenty of options to choose from, including New Girl, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, What We Do In The Shadows, Modern Family, Cougar Town, Broad City, Abbott Elementary, and so much more.

There are also some big Hulu originals to watch, including The Bear, The Old Man, The Handmaid's Tale, and Only Murders In The Building. With an FX partnership, Hulu is also home to those shows, including Shogun and the upcoming Alien: Earth series.

As far as animated fare, there are modern adult classics like Rick and Morty and Bob's Burgers, as well as Futurama, Family Guy, and King of the Hill. Anime staples like Cowboy Bebop are also available. And if you want to bring more youth-friendly fun, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, and Curious George are just a small sample of what Hulu has available.

The future of Hulu

Hulu isn't going anywhere. Beyond it being awarded the best streaming service by us, it also received a 9/10 in our updated Hulu review. Writer Rosie Knight said, "Hulu's ease of use, solid UI, and ever- expanding catalog has moved it ahead of top competitor Netflix to secure our highest score for a streaming service."

10 Audiobooks I Genuinely Recommend Listening To While Audible’s Free For Prime Members

30 juin 2025 à 19:00

Whether it’s ahead of the regular Amazon Prime sales across the year or building up to Black Friday, Audible is regularly dropping special subscription offers, giving you practically free credits to spend on the best fictional audiobooks around.

At the time of writing, for instance, Audible is running a promo where Prime members get three months for free, each giving a monthly credit to exchange, while non-Prime members can pay 99p per month for those three instead of $14.95 (this offer also applies in the UK).

If you’re looking for a change from your podcast for something to listen to, free/very cheap audiobooks like these are a great way to work through your reading backlog whilst walking, gyming, grocery shopping, or whatever errands or chores you have to take care off that stop you from taking the time to sit and open an actual book.

With the right narration skills, audiobooks can sometimes be even better than the original or other adaptations. When it comes to fictional books, especially, the escapism an audiobook can bring gets even better as well.

Available on Audible right now, in a non-ranked order, here are the top ten sets of fictional audiobooks you can download and enhance your digital library.

10. Harry Potter Series

Although you would need a credit for each book to listen to all seven, the Harry Potter audiobooks are an absolute treat to listen to in more ways than one, especially if you’ve only experienced the story through the films.

To start, each book is far more fleshed out than its movie counterpart, both in terms of characters and story developments that have been cut when adapted into films. Peeves the Poltergeist and Hermione trapping a beetle-form Rita Skeeter for pushing her too far, are just a couple of the best examples.

Although it’s the original take on Harry Potter that’s the best change for book newcomers, and it’s the first-rate narration by Stephen Fry that brings the whole thing to life. Nothing against Daniel Radcliffe, but book-Harry is far more witty, sarcastic, and sassy, making events far more entertaining.

With Fry offering the best utilisation of his eclectic voice to capture book-Harry’s personality perfectly, along with all the other characters, film-Harry comes off as milk toast-like by comparison, making said books feel like a whole new experience that audiobook fiction fans should give a try.

9. Star Wars Thrawn Trilogy

If you started losing faith in Star Wars during the sequel trilogy film era, and the greatness that is the Andor series hasn’t brought you back, perhaps try listening to the Thrawn trilogy to experience what was once the canon follow-up to Return of the Jedi.

Part of what is now the Legends canon, all three audiobooks by Timothy Zahn follow Luke, Leia, Han and co facing the rise of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the spiritual successor to the Emperor. Although Thrawn eventually became part of the Disney-era canon that took over, through the Rebels show, and then the Ahsoka series, the Thrawn trilogy is the definitive tale for the titular villain, and still holds up today as an alternative timeline that results in a far better, and arguably more interesting fate for the Skywalker clan.

Plus, the last two books in the 2007-Audible versions of the audiobooks are narrated by C-3PO himself, Anthony Daniels. While there’s almost no better person to immersive you in some improved Star Wars lore than the many behind one of our favourite droids, the 2012 versions are narrated by Marc Thompson, who is argued to be the definitive Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Be sure to listen to a preview available on each book's page to decide which versions are best for you.

8. Ready Player One

If you're a sucker for ‘80s pop culture, classic gaming, or anything remotely geeky, Ready Player One is an audiobook that hits a nostalgia jackpot.

Set in the same dystopian future as the 2018 film it was adapted into, Ernest Cline’s best novel following protagonist Wade Watts adventuring through a massive worldwide virtual reality game, is even better in audiobook form. That’s thanks to the narration skills by Star Trek: The Next Generation’s and Stand by Me’s own Wil Wheaton.

While the Ready Player One movie was good enough for us to give it a 7.5/10 in our IGN review, we know that it wasn’t for everyone. If the film is all you’ve seen and it felt a bit lacking, the audiobook version is far better and the definitive version to enjoy.

7. Fire & Blood: A Song of Ice and Fire

As well as the inspiration for the hit HBO series that brought life back into the Game of Thrones franchise, House of the Dragon, Fire & Blood is also an ancient textbook for Westeros history and the Targaryen family tree, with as much dragon-flying, incest, and political murder as you’d expect.

While House of the Dragon is, from this writer’s point of view, dragging its feet in getting the Targaryen civil war going with Season 2 feeling like mostly filler, the gripping source material narrated by Simon Vance can make it so you get the full story without having to wonder what happens next.

You will have to listen to some extra worldbuilding inbetween the big story beats seen in the show, but think of that as getting even more value for one of your Audible credits.

6. It

Stephen King’s It is a brick of a book that translates to a massive 44 hours of listening time, but the audiobook makes for chilling, sprawling story so much more immersive. Narrated by Steven Weber, this version drips with dread as you follow the Losers’ Club battling a shapeshifting evil in the form of Pennywise the Clown.

The creep factor ramps up with Weber’s intense performance, which swings effortlessly from innocent childhood memories to full-blown nightmare fuel. If horror’s your thing, or you simply want to see how the book differs from the recent films, this is another must

5. Ordinary People

Despite what the title implies, Ordinary People is anything but ordinary.

A South London-set story by Diana Evans that dives deep into the quiet complexities of modern relationships, Ordinary People offers a fascinating insight as to what happens after love stops feeling new.

Following two British couples grappling with parenthood, identity, and quiet disillusionment, the audiobook brings everyday struggles into sharp, poetic focus, courtesy of a calm yet expressive narration by Jennifer Saayeng. If you’re drawn to intimate, realistic fiction with emotional depth, this one’s a slow-burn stunner that sticks with you long after the last chapter.

4. The Hobbit

Taking place before Frodo and the Fellowship, there was The Hobbit, the original Middle-earth story which takes place before the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and is brought to life beautifully by the audiobook version.

There’s been a few different audiobooks for The Hobbit, but the best by far is the one narrated by Andy Serkis, the actor who played Gollum in the films and is one of the best British performers working today. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Renoir fans, this one’s for you.

In a similar style to House of the Dragon, The Hobbit films of the 2010s suffered by trying to stretch more content out of a single book into three films. To experience the best version of J. R. R. Tolkien’s original beloved tale, this is it.

3. The Martian

A sci-fi-must on Audible, The Martian is science-y, clever, and packed with just the right amount of sarcasm to keep things light even when the stakes are literal survival. Another reading by Wil Wheaton, The Martian’s narration captures Watney’s smart-aleck tone perfectly, making every log entry feel like you’re hearing from a mate who just happens to be farming potatoes in space. Even if you’ve already seen the 2015 film by Ridley Scott, the combined humour and tension of the original book keeps this listen orbiting your brain for a while.

2. The Help

Set in 1960s Mississippi, The Help brings together the lives of three unforgettable women navigating race, class, and courage during a turbulent time.

This audiobook’s standout feature is its full-cast narration, with each voice bringing a layer of realism and heart that pulls you in. Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter become more than characters. They feel like real people speaking directly to you.

Emotional, powerful, and with moments of wit and warmth, this is the kind of listen that lingers long after it ends.

1. Project Hail Mary

From the same author as The Martian, Project Hail Mary raises the stakes with a solo mission to save humanity, and, weirdly enough, one of the best alien friendships in fiction. Narrated by Ray Porter, this audiobook is hilarious, touching, and packed with just enough science to make you feel smart without needing a degree.

The pacing is so electric with the twists that keep on coming. Project Hail Mary even won the 2022 Audie Awards' Audiobook of the Year, along with being a best seller on Audible’s charts as well as the New York Times’.

Altogether, it’s the kind of listen you’ll find yourself replaying just to experience the emotional payoff again. Plus, we've just got our first look at the upcoming film staring Ryan Gosling, so it's the perfect way to celebrate by digging into this fantastic audio experience.

Is Audible Worth It?

If you do find yourself looking to enjoy more audiobooks, there are two membership options for Audible. Standard lets you pick one audiobook as long as you’re a member, while Premium Plus let’s you do the same except you can keep it. The latter also includes access to the Plus library, accessible as much as you’d like.

Premium Plus is Audible's highest tier plan and normally costs $14.95/mo, so scoring it for free right now is a proper Prime Day deal, Prime membership requirement and all. It's a good option for those without Prime as well, of course.

You can access Audible pretty much anywhere. To start, you can download the app on your mobile device or tablet via the iOS, Android, and Google stores. You can also access Audible through a Kindle device if you have one.

Plus, if you wanna just read books, Kindle Unlimited is also free for three months right now as well. Don't say I never do anything for you!

How to Watch the 2025 Naraka Fest Direct

30 juin 2025 à 19:00

Naraka: Bladepoint is approaching its fourth anniversary, and it’s celebrating with another Naraka Fest Direct. There will be news, reveals, updates, and details about upcoming in-game events and new content, and IGN will host a livestream of the show. We have all the info you need to watch the show live, as well as some ideas of what to expect to be shown.

Naraka Fest Direct Date, Time, and How to Watch

If you’re in the United States, this will be a nighttime show. It’ll begin on Tuesday, July 1 at 9 p.m. Pacific, which means it’ll be at midnight that night in the Eastern time zone. You can watch it live on any of these IGN channels:

IGN.com (our homepage)

IGN’s Facebook

IGN’s Twitter

IGN’s Twitch

IGN’s YouTube

If you can’t stay up late to watch it live, that’s okay. We’ll save the show in its entirety on our YouTube page, same as we did for last year’s Naraka Fest. So it’ll be waiting for you the next morning.

What to Expect from the Naraka Fest Direct

Before last year’s show, we already knew about the new map, Perdoria, that was being added. So we knew a deep dive into its details was approaching. This time around, we’ve gotten trailers letting us know big changes are coming. Naraka’s very world is breaking apart and a shift is rewriting every reality. In the midst of all that chaos, we can see a lightning-like figure traversing different timelines. Is that a hint about a new hero being introduced? We’ll have to wait and see.

Could those big, world-shaking changes also mean a new mode is on the horizon? Naraka: Bladepoint has kept its players engaged through its four-year run by consistently introducing new modes, like the recently added PvP mode Blessed Brutality. Could there be another new mode coming? What about collabs? There have been a bunch of collaborations to this point, ranging from other games (like The Witcher 3) to real-life figures (like fighter Buakaw Banchamek). Maybe there’s another one on the way. You can also bet on there being in-game events and rewards to celebrate the game’s fourth anniversary, but you’ll have to tune in on July 1 to see what they are.

Why It's Always Sunny Star Rob McElhenny Is Legally Changing His Last Name

30 juin 2025 à 18:50

You might already be calling It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenny ‘Mac,’ after watching his beloved character on the raucous comedy series for a whopping 16 seasons (with another now on the way). He is Mac to many of us — and now, the comic has revealed why he will be known as Mac legally as well.

"As our business and our storytelling is expanding into other regions of the world and other languages in which my name is even harder to pronounce, I'm just going by Rob Mac," McElhenny said while alongside creative partner Ryan Reynolds for an interview with Variety in May. And now, as of last week, the actor has filed to make the name change legal, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed.

McElhenny has explained that after purchasing the Wrexham Football Club with Reynolds in late 2020 — a venture that can be seen chronicled in the pair’s FX docuseries Welcome to Wrexham — his work with the team led his production company, More Better Productions, to invest in football clubs (you know, also known as soccer, in case that wasn’t clear) in South America. And it's there that his name has ended up being a pronunciation hurdle with Spanish speakers, which inspired him to make the change.

It got to the point where McElhenny’s surname was such a conversational challenge within their work that Reynolds debuted a hilarious song highlighting the problem while celebrating Mac's birthday in April 2023. "Pronouncing all those Ns and Es and Hs can perplex 'em," Reynolds sang alongside both celebrities and local friends of the football club in the number. "So here's a little birthday gift from all your mates in Wrexham."

That said, the decision doesn’t just affect McElhenny, it’s also a change for his family. "The kids are really not happy about it, because they have that last name," It’s Always Sunny star Kaitlin Olsen — who McElhenny married in 2008 and has two children with — also told Variety. "And so do I, legally!"

At the end of the day, we’re just excited to be able to legally call him Mac forever now. It’s a win for the people.

Season 17 of It’s Always Sunny arrives on FXX on July 6.

Deals For Today: 6 Months Free Amazon Prime And The Best Pokémon TCG Deals

30 juin 2025 à 18:40

Pokémania 2025 isn't slowing down, which means trainers need to be savvy about their sealed Pokémon TCG purchases. Whilst buying at MSRP is become the stuff of legend, it's always good practice to see what products are selling for on the secondary market compared to big box stores such as Amazon. The same goes for Magic: The Gathering. Luckily, I've gone through Amazon's current stock for both and found the best deals of these products to save trainers, wizards and witches a few dollars. I'm amazing, right?

TL;DR: Deals For Today

Amazon is also gearing up for its 4-day Prime Day sale with some early deals and a massive 6-month free prime membership deal for anyone aged 18-24 in the US. then it's $7.49 thereafter. Cool, right? Speaking of staying cool, we've got a great deal on a neck fan and something to help get a cool nights sleep for way below MSRP. Let's get into it:

Amazon Prime Day Is Coming

We're all over Prime Days 2025, and some deals are going live now. For more information about the event and an inside scoop on hot deals and top tips, check out our Prime Day hub.

6 Months Free Amazon Prime For Young Adults

This one is a no-brainer. If your 18-24, snap up this 6-months free deal for Amazon Prime. It includes the free and fast delivery Amazon is known for alongside unlimited streaming, free delivery on GrubHub+, free Prime games every month and loads more.

Pokémon TCG Price Comparison

Some of the pricing here by Amazon is insane, but there's some deals to be had when comparing these products to TCG Player. For example, Prismatic Evolutions Super-Premium Collection is a massive 56% below market value, so go with Amazon on that one. On the other end of the scale, TCG Player has Cynthia’s Garchomp ex Premium Collection at a massive 48% below Amazon's current price, which is very close to MSRP. I've compared all the prices in the carousel above, but another pro tip is clicking through to eBay to see if there's any new bargains to be had.

Pokémon TCG Classic

The Sam's Club Pokémon TCG Classic deal is back, and it's massively undercutting other big box retailers and the secondary market. Just for comparrison, the top four cards from this set, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur and Mewtwo, are worth the same price as this discounted offer. This deal is well worth it and should be snapped up as soon as possible.

Mega Evolution Pokémon Cards Are Climbing

I can't believe the X Y era of Pokémon cards came out 12 years ago, but it was an amazing era for the TCG introducing the Mega Evolution mechanic. Mega's will be returning later this year with the start of the Mega Evolutions era and the end of Scarlet and Violet, so snapping up these top Mega cards before prices go even higher is a wise move. We know how it'll play out, no one will be able to grab the new sets at launch, then the nostalgia will kick in and these cards will skyrocket. Just the Charizards and Rayquazzas alone are worth a look.

Magic: The Gathering Price Comparison

MTG doesn't seem to be struggling to keep up with demand despite it being one of the biggest trading card games on earth, but that doesn't stop big box retailers getting cheeky when they notice a peak in demand. Like with Pokémon TCG, i've gone through the majority of MTG stock on Amazon and compared their pricing to market values on TCG Player. The Theros Beyond Death booster made me spit out my tea. Amazon is listing a single booster for $378.08, but these can be picked up any day of the week for $5.59 on TCG Player. Go figure. Another big difference is Marvel's Spider-Man - Play Booster Box. Amazon has their preorder price guarantee on this, but it's still 17% cheaper to preorder on TCG Player.

WAOAW Sleep Mask w/ 3D Eye Cups & Adjustable Strap (Black)

If you’re sensitive to light while sleeping, this 3D contoured eye mask from WAOAW might be worth trying. It’s designed with deeper eye cavities so there’s no pressure on your lids, and the wide, adjustable strap helps it stay put without pulling at your hair. The material is soft and breathable, and it comes with earplugs and a travel pouch, which makes it a handy option for travel or quick naps.

The Silmarillion Deluxe Illustrated by the Author

I can't describe how much I need this work of art. This edition of the Silmarillion arrives in a deluxe stamped clothbound hardcover edition housed in a custom slipcase and lavishly illustrated with over 50 color pieces by J.R.R. Tolkien himself. This collector's version presents the complete text in two-color print and includes exclusive extras like two fold-out maps of Beleriand, a booklet on the making of The Silmarillion by Christopher Tolkien, and a collectible art card. From the crafting of the Silmarils and Morgoth’s theft, to the fall of Númenor and the forging of the Rings of Power, this volume captures the vast mythological backdrop of The Lord of the Rings. Beautifully quarterbound with foil-stamped black cloth boards, silver-edged pages, and a ribbon marker, it’s a definitive edition for Tolkien devotees.

Tunise Rechargeable Portable Neck Fan

It's a fan that you don't have to hold because it sits comfortably around your neck. This is such a cool and handy product for under $15, especially if you're like me and get warm at the thought of some sunshine.

3 Months for $0.99 Audible Deal

Audible’s doing that 99c a month deal again for Premium Plus, and it’s a steal. Amazon Prime Members get three months free, so make sure to check for an active subscription before looking for this deal. You get three audiobooks to keep, full access to the big library, and it works even if you’ve had a sub before as long as it’s not active now. I just logged in, saw the banner, and grabbed it. Sunrise on the Reaping is already in my library, and I’m eyeing that massive new Sanderson one next. Less than three bucks for all that? Easy win.

3 Months Free Kindle Unlimited

I’ve never really stuck with audiobooks before, but this Kindle Unlimited deal finally got me into them properly. Right now you can get three months free if you’ve got Prime, and it works on your phone or tablet, not just a Kindle. I gave it a go, downloaded a couple of books, and now I’ve actually started finishing them while I’m out walking or doing stuff around the house. It’s made getting through my backlog way easier and I didn’t have to pay a thing to try it. If you’ve been on the fence, this is a solid excuse to dive in.

16 Years After The Last NCAA Basketball Game, EA Sports Is 'Bringing Back the Madness'

30 juin 2025 à 18:28

After 16 years, college basketball (CBB) is coming back to EA Sports.

If you're looking for more details than that, then bad news — EA really isn't talking as yet — but in a message posted to social media earlier today, the division responsible for EA's sports games said: "Bring the Madness. Let's run it back."

The message was appended with two hashtags: "CBB" — an acronym for college basketball — and EA Sports' customary "It's in the Game." Oh, and there was an image of a basketball, too.

If you're unfamiliar with basketball and EA Sports' relationship with it, it's worth noting that this is big news, as it marks the first time EA Sports has taken us into the heart of college basketball since 2009's NCAA Basketball 10. It follows the similar resurrection of EA Sports' College Football franchise, which came back to life last July with College Football 25.

— EA SPORTS (@EASPORTS) June 30, 2025

As for the other basketball video game, NBA 2K25? We thought the latest iteration was Good, awarding 7/10, writing: "A handful of improvements mean NBA 2K25 has a few tricks up its sleeve to be pleasantly surprised by this year, even as many long-term issues continue." It's currently one of the games up for grabs with this month's PlayStation Plus free games, along with the Alone in the Dark remake, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and Destiny 2: The Final Shape.

The Best Disney Plus Deals and Bundles for June 2025

30 juin 2025 à 18:21

Considering what it offers, Disney Plus is one of the best streaming services on the block. From classic Disney animated films to the latest Marvel shows and Star Wars movies, excellent kids' programming like Bluey, and so much more, Disney Plus puts an incredible range of high-quality viewing options at your fingertips. And with so much to check out - including Marvel's latest series Ironheart - you'll want to find a plan that best suits you. We're here to help.

At the moment, one of the best Disney Plus bundle deals available is the massive Disney Plus, Hulu, and Max streaming bundle. This starts at $16.99/month to get you all three streaming services with ads. It's one of the best bundles available at the moment, but we've included more Disney Plus bundle deals worth exploring below. If you're looking for more streaming deals from other services, check out the best Hulu deals and bundles and the best Max deals.

How to Get the Disney Plus, Hulu, and Max Streaming Bundle

The Disney Plus, Hulu, and Max streaming bundle can be purchased through any of the three streaming services and starts at $16.99/month for the ad-supported tier or $29.99/month for ad-free access across the three platforms.

If you currently own all three and want to cut down on costs, this is a great way to bundle them together and save big on what you'd pay for them separately per month – 43% on the ad-supported plan and 42% on the ad-free plan.

What Is the Paid Sharing Plan on Disney Plus?

In an effort to crack down on password sharing, Disney has added a paid sharing plan for individuals outside of your household. Basically, anyone using your account that's not within your household will have to be added as an "Extra Member" to your account. This costs an additional $6.99/month for the ad-supported Basic subscription and $9.99/month for the Premium ad-free plan, and only one Extra Member slot is available per account. You can learn more from Disney's paid sharing explainer here.

What Are the Different Disney+ Subscription Tiers?

Disney+ is available in a couple of different tiers. You can get the least expensive option (called Disney+ Basic) for $9.99/month, which gives you access to everything except the ability to download select shows to watch on the go. This tier is ad supported. If you want to get rid of ads and be able to download certain shows, you can spring for the $15.99/month or $159.99/year Disney+ Premium package.

What Are the Different Disney+ Bundles?

Want a way to save on your Disney+ membership? Bundles are a great, affordable way to go. As far as bundles go, there are two ad-supported bundles and two ad-free bundles. Here's the breakdown:

  • Disney+, Hulu Bundle Basic is $10.99/month and comes with subscriptions to Disney+ and Hulu. This plan lets you stream on multiple devices at once and comes with ad-supported versions of both services.
  • Disney+, Hulu Bundle Premium is $19.99/month and comes with Hulu and Disney+ with no ads. It also includes Disney+ Premium features like the ability to download shows to watch on the go.
  • Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ Bundle Basic adds ESPN+ (With Ads) to the mix alongside Disney+ (With Ads) and Hulu (With Ads), bumping up the price to $16.99/month. You can also download and watch select content on ESPN+ at this level.
  • Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ Bundle Premium is $26.99/month and comes with ESPN+ (With Ads) and ad-free versions of Disney+ and Hulu. You can also download select content across all three streaming services.

Disney+ Gift Cards

If you want to help someone out and give them a gift that will keep on giving, gifting a one-year Disney+ card is a great way to go. It provides all the great things Disney+ offers and it costs a fraction of what it would take to buy even a small sampling of those movies physically.

What Can You Watch on Disney+?

There is a bonkers array of shows and movies you can watch on Disney+. Let's start at the top and simply talk about the verticals on offer here with the base subscription.

Here's what you get:

Disney on Disney+

On the Disney front, you have awesome classic movies like The Sword In The Stone, Robin Hood, 101 Dalmations, Hercules, and Sleeping Beauty, modern classics like The Princess & The Frog, Tangled, and Frozen, and a wide range of animated shows, including Phineas & Ferb.

You also gain access to a ton of vintage content like Escape to Witch Mountain, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, The Love Bug, and a whole lot more. The Disney Junior section is home to absolutely top tier animated shows like Bluey (which, for my money, is worth the price of admission on its own).

There's way more on offer, too, including a ton of Muppet movies, new live-action films and adaptions (including the new Snow White), nature programs, documentaries, Pirates of the Caribbean, and musical programs featuring Taylor Swift (like her wildly popular The Eras Tour), Elton John, Ed Sheeran, and more.

Pixar on Disney+

When it comes to computer generated films, Pixar stands alone. Kicking off the revolution with Toy Story, Pixar has consistently put out fantastic films, and they are all here. From the Toy Story series to Finding Nemo, Cars, and more recent hits like Inside Out 2, there is a ton to love.

Beyond even that, there are incredible shorts like Bao and Party Central, as well as a wide range of originals and series based on major films, such as Dory's Reef Cam, Forky Asks A Question, Cars On The Road, and more.

Marvel on Disney+

The MCU has become a true juggernaut, and there are many viewers who subscribe to Disney+ purely for access to nearly the entire MCU lineup of films and shows.

Whether you are a fan of the blockbuster action films, you are an appreciator of the classic 90s runs of "Saturday morning" cartoons like X-Men, or you are currently vibing to the funky theme of the 1981 Spider-Man series, there is a ton of Marvel to enjoy on Disney+. And with new movies and shows being added to the MCU all the time, including most recently Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World, there is always more coming.

Star Wars on Disney+

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was a film that changed everything. The original Star Wars is a seminal sci-fi fantasy work that inspired generations of creators, but there is still nothing quite like that far away galaxy. Disney+ grants access to all things Star Wars, including the remastered versions of the original trilogy (hopefully some day they'll add the theatrical cuts, too), as well as the prequels and sequels.

You can also stay up-to-date on all the latest shows, including The Mandalorian and the critically-lauded Andor, which just wrapped up its second and final season. There are also fantastic short series like Star Wars Visions, and longer-form series like The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, Young Jedi Adventures, and a whole lot more.

Take a look at our list of Disney+ alernatives for additional streaming services. To play while you watch, see our roundup of the best LEGO Disney sets. For more deals, dive into our Daily Deals page.

Hyperkin Announces New Guitar Controller With Swappable Parts and Multi-Platform Support

30 juin 2025 à 18:00

Ever since Fortnite Festival inspired the PDP Riffmaster in 2024, more plastic guitar controllers have been coming out of the woodwork. And the Hyperkin Drakong InfinaKore Telecaster Edition Guitar Controller is the latest.

Just like the Riffmaster or the CRKD Gibson Les Paul, the Drakong InfinaKore is a 5-fret plastic guitar. But while Fortnite Festival is the primary reason this guitar controller is coming out, Hyperkin has claimed this guitar controller will have wide compatibility across multiple platforms, stretching back to the Xbox 360, and even including platforms like iOS and Android.

The primary reason this guitar exists is obviously Fortnite Festival, which according to Hyperkin, has grown to an average 2.2 million daily players. But this new guitar controller will also support other 5-fret guitar games, which of course includes Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, but also community favorites like Clone Hero.

Just like the old Rock Band guitars, the Drakong InfinaKore has slimmer fret buttons near the base of the neck to better allow for fret tapping. That's a pretty common feature in guitar controllers, but what sets this one apart is that on the frets above them are four directional keys. For the uninitiated, Fortnite Festival has the strum bar mapped to the up and down keys, and having these arrow keys on the neck allows you to quickly 'strum' without trying to hit the strum bar with your elbow when you miss a note.

The controller will also have a "star power" button near the strum bar, so you can more reliably enter the special mode when the tilt isn't working for whatever reason. All the buttons are also hot swappable, which should help the controller last for years.

Hyperkin has not shared a release date or a price for the Drakong InfinaKore, but hopefully it isn't too far out.

Jurassic World Rebirth Review

30 juin 2025 à 18:00

Jurassic World Rebirth opens in theaters Wednesday, July 2.

There’s a story running through the “World” half of the Jurassic franchise that involves greedy corporations squeezing the last pennies out of that precious dino DNA. InGen or Biosyn or a pharmaceutical company – everybody is lining up for one more crack at cashing in off John Hammond’s original spark of brilliance. Unfortunately, the new Jurassic World Rebirth is an example of art imitating life: All these years after the creative and commercial jackpot of 1993’s Jurassic Park, Universal tries to make good on a massive investment in dinosaurs one last time with… a movie about a company trying to make good on a massive investment in dinosaurs one last time. But instead of a Rebirth for the franchise, they’ve ended up with just another Lost World.

Now, a couple things before I dive back into disliking this movie. Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali could read the phone book to each other while wearing beige sweaters on a cloudy day and I’d be on board. They’re more often than not the most interesting things on screen in whatever movie they happen to be in, and that’s true for Jurassic World Rebirth as well. As covert operations specialist Zora Bennet and her trusted mercenary colleague Duncan Kincaid, Johansson and Ali are at their usual best here.

Rebirth starts strongly enough as well. The promise of dropping Gareth Edwards into the Jurassic world seems like it’s paying off in the opening sequences. The only director who’s worked with both Godzilla and the Death Star, Edwards knows how to create real terror with scale on screen. And there’s a great horror, almost B-movie vibe in the beginning of Jurassic World Rebirth that I’m really into. When the iconic Jurassic Park logo appears on screen, it’s accompanied by a score that would be at home in a classic Universal monster movie. There’s no majesty to it. None of that trademark John Williams flavor of wonder. It’s all creepy creature feature vibes on the soundtrack, and I actually loved it because it’s a new flavor for the franchise.

There’s a boldness to the move of subtitling the sixth Jurassic Park sequel “Rebirth” – it’s kind of a promise that says we’re in store for something different and based on these opening moments, Edwards is coming at this movie with a legitimately new energy that lasts past the cold open. In an early scene where Rupert Friend’s shady corporate exec hires Johansson’s covert-ops expert, Zora Bennett, to take part in his shadiness, the exposition is set against action in the background that very quickly establishes the dynamic between dinosaurs and humans post Jurassic World Dominion. It’s the kind of efficiency in storytelling that I really like, and there’s a funny bit of it right out of the gate in Rebirth.

So, everything is heading in the right direction and then… it starts heading in the same old direction. There’s another as-yet-unheard-of island where inGen did its dirtiest work, and a group of heroes, villains, and other assorted dino chow find themselves in a fight to survive. It’s the same thing the franchise has done with varying degrees of success and pretty consistent degrees of failure since The Lost World.

Edwards may have made Rogue One, but Jurassic World Rebirth follows the playbook of a different Star Wars movie: The Force Awakens, which is, not for nothing, also an episode 7. It’s a legacy sequel that more or less follows the blueprint of the first movie. Rebirth is 1:1 to the original Jurassic Park, but there’s a problem this movie can’t solve. Jurassic Park was a simple machine. For all its big ideas and complexities, it’s about easy-to-like people trying to not get eaten and wondering if maybe we shouldn’t play God.

The franchise has since layered more and more on top of that relative straightforwardness almost every time out, to the point that there’s just too much to deal with in Rebirth. It’s a bit of the “should we do this?” with a dash of corporate greed, a pinch of coexisting with dinosaurs with a gene sequence gap filled in by questions about to whom scientific discovery actually belongs while every character with a speaking role gets a hyper specific emotional journey to go on that also has to get paid off. There’s so much on the table that I really couldn’t care about any of it.

There was actually a moment I knew Rebirth didn’t quite have the same thing working for it as Jurassic Park. It’s one you can see in the trailers where Zora and Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Loomis run into a herd of Titanosaurs. It’s in a wide, green valley, the characters are awed by what they see. It’s clearly meant to evoke the moment when Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, and by extension the audience, get their first real look at the Brachiosaur. This scene in Rebirth is structured exactly the same down to the cutaway to a wide shot of the valley revealing the whole herd – only in Rebirth, it’s a wide aerial angle, not from anybody’s perspective. It’s completely disconnected from the characters. It’s not the view that Zora’s enjoying in the scene, like it was for Dr. Grant in the original. It’s nobody’s view, just a massive and, frankly soulless shot of a valley full of dinosaurs.

Now it might seem small and myopic of me to be stressed about a single shot, but these are the moments that have a real impact on how a movie lands on you. Whether you realize it or not, shots like this make the difference between the movies you remember and the ones you’re already forgetting by the time the credits roll. If you want to buy into characters feeling awe, you need to be in their shoes, seeing what they’re seeing. It’s an insistence on just remixing the original that really keeps this Jurassic movie from evolving into something new for the franchise.

And that brings me to the Delgado family. This is, like the main cast of the film, a group of actors doing really good work. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is great as a dad crossing the Atlantic with his daughters. He’s capable, smart, empathetic, and relatable – as is his older daughter, played by Luna Blaise. There’s a familiarity to the dynamics of this family: the issues they’re dealing with have all been seen before, but they’re all charismatic enough that I enjoyed spending time with them. The bad news is, there’s no good reason for them to be there. The good news, though, is that superfluous is one of my favorite words. There’s an argument to be made, one that a colleague of mine has already shouted at me, that this family arriving by chance is the best way to get kids involved in a death-by-dinosaur adventure, and maybe it is. That’s not even my issue with it though.

If this had been a monster movie about a group of mercenaries sent to recover DNA from a dinosaur-filled island, hell yeah, I’m into that. On the other hand, if this were a monster movie about a family marooned on one of InGen’s old islands, forced to survive on the strength of their wits with no weapons or designs on profiting off of dinosaurs, I’m into that too. Instead there’s just a family there completely by accident who’s doing their own thing the whole movie. The way they cross over with Scarlett Johansson and her side of the cast is mostly incidental, and the themes they represent don’t really have anything to offer to Rebirth as a whole. If they weren’t there at all, it really wouldn’t have mattered. For example, maybe one character lost a child and so they’re extra determined to get these kids safely off the island. If the Delgados weren’t there, that character would just have to rely on not getting eaten for motivation which is no big loss.

But I’ve gotten this far into the review without focusing much on the main attractions: the dinosaurs. The insanely mutated genetic cocktail that gets loose in the opening sequence looms over much of Rebirth. Edwards and writer David Koepp keep its threat off screen for the most part, in a very Spielbergian show of restraint. And this is, as I said before, the basket in which I was keeping all my ostrich eggs and amphibian DNA: a Gareth Edwards sense of scale.

But where Rebirth’s marquee mega-mutant, half kaiju, half Rancor monstrosity is concerned, its scale feels off. It seems bigger in some scenes than others and felt like it might be changing size and shape to suit whatever particular flavor of terror it needs to inflict in any given moment. Now, to be fair, some of those terrifying moments are pretty cool. This monster does have a personality and honestly, I would’ve liked to have seen more of it. To go back the theoretical, simpler Rebirths that could’ve been, this bizarre, genetic hybrid abomination could’ve carried the B-movie energy of the intro if he had his sights trained on either the team of mercenaries and their shady employer or the family trying to understand each other a little better. Instead, he’s there until he’s not, and he’s just kinda not there until he’s back again.

None of this is to say that I’m docking the movie points because it wasn’t the movie I would’ve rather watched, by the way. I only want to illustrate Jurassic Park Rebirth’s general lack of follow through. For a movie that’s hinting at a fresh start from its title on down, Rebirth plays it frustratingly safe. There were bound to be more cinematic mosquitos they could’ve pulled other DNA from to make something a little different.

But, that is the story of the four Jurassic World movies. Rebirth is, when it comes down to it, just “more teeth,” the mostly cheesy line from Jurassic World poking fun at the absurdity of daring to ask “How do we make bringing dinosaurs back to life interesting again?” What Jurassic World was trying to make fun of, Rebirth ultimately became. It’s a very okay, middling movie, with nothing egregiously wrong about it aside from the fact that it ignores one of the franchise’s most iconic lines. Universal seems, in the words of Dr. Ian Malcolm, so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.

Nintendo Denies Report It Pulled Products From Amazon Amid Spat Over Third-Party Sales

30 juin 2025 à 17:30

When Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders began earlier this year, console stock was available at a range of US stores — except for the biggest online retailer out there, Amazon.com.

The lack of Switch 2 consoles and games for sale in the US via Amazon has been frequently remarked upon, but never explained. And now, Nintendo itself has denied a Bloomberg report that discusses an alleged ongoing issue between the Mario maker and Jeff Bezos' megacorp over third-party resellers.

As IGN reported earlier this month, new first-party Nintendo games have been almost completely absent from Amazon.com over the past year, aside from a rogue Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom listing. This changed with Amazon offering pre-orders for the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive Donkey Kong Bananza, which it began offering from June 17.

Still, the Switch 2 itself and various other upcoming Nintendo games, such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, remain unavailable to buy or pre-order. And, as noted by IGN today, a previous listing for the Switch 2 has now been removed completely, instead inexplicably replaced with a 404 page that can feature a dog named Bowser.

Today, Bloomberg reported that the ongoing lack of Nintendo products on Amazon was a deliberate move by the Switch 2 manufacturer to combat third-party sellers buying consoles in bulk from Southeast Asia and exporting them to the US to sell for cheaper prices than Nintendo itself.

Amid the threat of Nintendo pulling stock from sale, Amazon allegedly offered to label games sold directly by Nintendo as such, adding an extra layer of authenticity to customer purchases, but to no avail.

For its part, however, Nintendo has quickly denied Bloomberg's reporting. "There is no such fact," a Nintendo spokesperson told Tom's Hardware. "We do not disclose details of negotiations or contracts with retailers."

Amazon has also denied Bloomberg's report, and said its detailing of the relationship between it and Nintendo was "inaccurate".

"[Amazon is] pleased to offer Nintendo products directly to our customers as part of our commitment to providing an exceptional shopping experience with the widest selection possible," an Amazon spokesperson said, without explaining why Amazon's actual selection of Nintendo products wasn't the widest out there.

IGN has contacted Nintendo for comment, and to ask if it can share why more of its products are not offered for sale via Amazon.com.

Former Nintendo Devs Reminisce About 'Amazing' Colleagues Who Were So Good At Making Games, They Seemed Like 'Celestial Beings'

30 juin 2025 à 17:19

Takaya Imamura — a video game designer and manga artist perhaps best known for his work on F-Zero, Star Fox, and The Legend of Zelda — has said that despite his lofty credits, there were "so many amazing people" in Nintendo, he felt "inferior" enough that it was a relief to eventually leave the company.

"There were so many incredible people at Nintendo,” Imamura wrote on X, as spotted and translated by Automaton, "and I remember constantly wondering how I could demonstrate my own worth in such an environment," adding there was always "a sense of inferiority lingering somewhere."

"When I left the company, it’s true that I felt a sense of freedom, as if I had been released from the inferiority complex I’d carried for years," Imamura added. "But at the same time, there was also a loneliness in thinking, 'I won’t be able to work with these people anymore…' That said, with only a few years left until retirement anyway, and since game development often takes many years, I felt a stronger desire to move forward at my own pace, doing more freely creative things."

While reading that may come as a surprise, it seems that sentiment is shared by many former Nintendo employees. One former Nintendo designer, Shinji Watanabe, who now heads up Epsilon Software, followed up to liken his former colleagues to "celestial beings," whilst Ken Watanabe, who worked at Nintendo for 10 years before branching out an an indie creator, concurred, said: "There really is nothing but amazing people [at Nintendo]. Trying to find a way to stand out among them was both draining and fulfilling."

On the subject of Nintendo… did you know Super Mario Strikers — or Mario Smash Football, as it's known in Europe — is joining Nintendo Switch 2's Nintendo Switch Online GameCube library next week? It's the first game to have been added to the library since Switch 2 launched earlier this month. And don't forget, an extremely cool replica GameCube controller is also available for maximum nostalgia…

Nintendo Switch 2 is off to a strong start, with 3.5 million consoles sold, but an analysis on the console's launch week sales paints a mixed picture of how well games not made by Nintendo are now selling.

James Gunn Confirms the Viola Davis Waller Series Is, In Fact, Still in Development

30 juin 2025 à 17:15

Marvel boss James Gunn wants you to know: the rumors aren’t true. The DC Studios head has officially confirmed that the upcoming Waller television series is, in fact, still in development.

The longtime producer took to Threads recently to confirm the show’s status in response to a fan who asked if the rumors about Waller being reworked into a Checkmate show were untrue. He confirmed that they were untrue with a one-word “yes” response to the fan.

Another fan then swooped in to confirm in no uncertain terms, “So Waller is still in development?” and Gunn gave another one-word “yes” answer.

It’s good to hear a hard confirmation from the DCU boss, considering he recently acknowledged that the series was having some difficulties behind the scenes amid the development process. “Waller has had a couple of, you know, setbacks, frankly,” Gunn explained at a DC Studios press event alongside co-studio head Peter Safran back in February.

Otherwise, details have been pretty sparse about the series thus far. The show was first announced when the DCU slate was revealed back in January 2023 and was positioned as a spinoff of Peacemaker that would explore the aftermath of Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller’s daughter, Danielle Brooks’ Leota Adebayo, exposing the existence of Task Force X at the end of the first season. However, the 2023 strikes did put a wrench in that mix, forcing the team to rewrite to work with the new DCU timeline, which delayed production significantly, as is now obvious.

The series was developed by Watchman writer Christal Henry and Doom Patrol creator Henry Carver — but as of right now, there isn’t much more out there about it, at least for public consumption. That said, this confirmation from Gunn is a huge step forward for the series, which we will hopefully see next year. Fingers crossed, anyway.

How AI-assisted Gaming On The Galaxy S25 Means Extended Play Time and Optimized Performance

30 juin 2025 à 17:02

While older devices might feel like rather blunt instruments, Samsung Galaxy S25’s latest suite of AI tools means that every aspect of the device is learning, and tailoring itself, to maximise what you specifically need from it. If you want better gameplay, for longer, the Galaxy S25 will monitor, learn, adapt and improve.

Walking A Tightrope

Mobile gaming has always been faced with the conundrum of how to navigate the contradiction between the opposing goals of power and endurance. Push the hardware too hard, and battery life plummets. Go too far the other way and the experience ends up feeling underwhelming. Samsung is solving this problem with the variety of AI tools and tricks available on the Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra.

The flagship phone’s upgraded AI system isn't just a collection of buzzwords or background processes; it’s a real-time assistant working behind the scenes to ensure gamers get the best possible performance without torching their battery in the process. As a result, users can benefit from smoother gameplay, sharper visuals, and longer sessions - without the dreaded overheating or mid-battle power warnings.

Real-Time Decision Making

At the heart of the S25’s performance leap is an evolved on-device AI engine that’s purpose-built for real-time decision-making. During gameplay, the AI analyzes multiple factors: CPU and GPU workload, temperature levels, power draw, and even screen refresh rates. AI then makes dynamic adjustments to ensure efficiency.

Importantly, context is considered throughout. Galaxy S25 tailors its approach to each of your games, to ensure whatever you're doing, you're getting the best from your handset. If you’re diving into a high-intensity FPS like Call of Duty: Mobile, the system prioritises GPU performance while intelligently reducing background CPU threads and minimising refresh rate spikes to prevent unnecessary battery drain. By contrast, if you’re playing a puzzle game or a less demanding RPG, AI scales back graphical fidelity slightly in non-critical moments to extend your battery life without negatively affecting your enjoyment.

This granular level of performance modulation used to be the domain of gaming laptops or consoles with sophisticated cooling systems. Using vapour chambers to draw heat away from the device, preventing overheating and maintaining performance during intense tasks like gaming or video streaming, is a key modification. Bringing it to a pocket-sized device is no small feat, yet Samsung has managed to add it to its newest handsets.

Knowledge is Power

What really sets Galaxy S25 apart is how it treats battery life not as a static limit but as a flexible resource. Its AI constantly learns from your gaming habits - what types of games you play, how long you tend to play, and even when you're likely to take breaks. It then adjusts the power distribution to maximise screen-on time without sacrificing responsiveness or frame rate.

For instance, if you typically play during your commute and average 30-minute sessions, AI will prioritise burst performance early, then gradually enter a conservation mode as the session nears its average end time. But if you’re locked into a 3-hour raid on the weekend, Galaxy S25 recognises the extended session and opts for a more sustained balance between heat, battery, and frame pacing.

(Not) Hot and Bothered

Additionally, Galaxy S25s AI preemptively monitors thermal thresholds. Before the phone starts to overheat, the system makes pre-emptive micro-adjustments, lowering brightness by a few percentage points, tweaking background refresh rates, and selectively underclocking non-essential processes, to keep everything running cool and smooth.

As a result, rather than jarring slowdowns at inopportune moments, or warnings your phone is about to explode, the S25 just makes the changes it needs without bothering you and, crucially, just keeps on going.

Snappy Performance

It’s not just about staying powered longer though. The S25 also improves visuals thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, with the phone leveraging machine-learning to enhance rendering in real-time.

Galaxy S25 helps with predicting frames and upscaling, meaning games that aren’t natively optimised for high frame rates can still deliver a smoother experience through smart interpolation and anti-aliasing enhancement.

Behind the scenes, the tech analyzes incoming frames, sharpens edges, and improves texture detail without requiring additional rendering overhead. Games that previously struggled at 45fps now appear closer to 60fps, with less ghosting or jitter, especially on the S25's 120Hz AMOLED display.

In addition, Galaxy S25 can identify performance bottlenecks on the fly and dynamically respond. That means you’ll see less lag if you need to quickly swap from a game to a chat app, and far less chance for delayed inputs to cause you problems during critical moments in-game.

Galaxy S25 works Smarter, Not Harder

With the Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra, Samsung is making a clear statement: the future of mobile gaming isn’t just about raw specs, it’s about smart, adaptive performance.

Games are only going to become more demanding in future, and AI on Galaxy S25 means it can adapt without you having to manually adjust settings or really intervene at all. Indeed, you can trust the device will grow along with you, learning and tweaking itself the more time you spend together.

The convergence of mobile hardware and artificial intelligence feels inevitable, but the S25 marks one of the first times it’s been done with such a focus on gaming. For players looking for a device that won’t just keep up, but will actually optimise itself in real time, Samsung’s latest flagship model might be the smartest play yet.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is My Comfort Game, and It’s Just $49.99 at Amazon Today

30 juin 2025 à 16:51

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the most exciting the series has felt in years, and it's now down to just $49.99 on Amazon for PS5 and Xbox.

It's the first big discount the game has had since its release earlier this year, and comes courtesy of Amazon's early Prime Day sales.

Dropping from $70, that's a sizable $20 off the list price, and an increasingly more appealing price point for anyone previously unsure of Ubisoft's latest open-world RPG.

I will defend this game till my dying breath. I've spent so much time just chilling and exploring the open-world landscape, and it's honestly become a comfort game since I cracked it open.

If you're after something meaty, with a seriously satisfying gameplay loop and some proper stealth challenge, especially with the new Nightmare difficulties, Assassin's Creed Shadows absolutely delivers.

There are still some rough edges, but none of it takes away from how immersive and enjoyable it is overall. It’s a beautiful, ambitious Assassin’s Creed game that doesn’t try to please everyone, and I respect it more because of that.

IGN’s Jarrett Green review gave it an 8 out of 10, calling Yasuke and Naoe “the strongest Assassin duo in years,” and they’re right. The way Shadows handles combat, story, and seasonal changes across its open world makes it feel more alive than most open-world games manage.

At $50, it’s an easy recommendation. And honestly, I’d defend this one even if it weren’t on sale. The fact that it’s cheaper just makes it easier for others to see what I already know: this game is worth your time.

In other AC news, Ubisoft's next big patch for Assassin's Creed Shadows recently rolled out on June 25, 2025, and even included the game's next story pack, which introduces a new Ally character for Naoe and Yasuke played by Critical Role's Robbie Daymond.

M3GAN 2.0’s 4K Steelbook Is Now Available To Preorder

30 juin 2025 à 16:28

She may have just made a return to movie theaters, but if you simply can't wait to add M3GAN's sequel to your physical media collection, M3GAN 2.0 is now available to preorder as a 4K steelbook. Preorders are available from both Amazon and Walmart, and the former has a standard 4K and digital copy available to preorder, too. If you want both M3GAN 2.0 and its predecessor, there's a two-movie collection up for preorder as well. Head to the links below to secure a copy today.

Preorder M3GAN 2.0 4K Steelbook

Since it only just released in theaters, M3GAN 2.0 doesn't have a release date yet, but by preordering now you can set yourself up to get it on the day it drops. No bonus features have been revealed for the 4K release yet, either.

Save on the Original M3GAN 4K Steelbook

If you're looking to add the original to your physical media collection alongside the sequel, today's your lucky day. The first M3GAN steelbook is currently on sale at Amazon. Normally it's listed for $34.99 but you can save 23% on it right now and pick it up for $26.96. It comes with a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital copy of the film in a case that features the AI bot front and center.

While we didn't find the sequel as successful as its predecessor, IGN's M3GAN 2.0 review from Tom Jorgensen said it, "hotswaps horror for sci-fi/action to mixed results, but M3GAN’s absolutely heinous wit and killer moves leave her, and not the new genres, the star of the show."

Looking for even more movies to add to your library alongside M3GAN 2.0? There are thankfully quite a few worth preordering right now. Our roundup of upcoming 4K UHD and Blu-ray releases can point you in the direction of what's coming out over the next few months, from new movies to classics getting the 4K treatment and even TV shows. Otherwise, Barnes & Noble is currently running a massive 50% off sale on The Criterion Collection, with hundreds of Blu-rays (including preorders) on sale.

Experimenting with Galaxy AI Camera Features Like Night Mode, Generative Edit, and More

30 juin 2025 à 16:20

Ever wondered what would happen if you asked an idiot to do something an idiot can’t do? Wonder no more, as we set ourselves the task of using the AI features on the Galaxy S25 Ultra to compensate for our many, many shortcomings. From poor framing to poor lighting, Galaxy AI consistently helped us share the photos we INTENDED to take…

Can Samsung’s Galaxy AI turn me into the new Ansel Adams?

As someone who’s always loved the idea of photo editing, but never had the patience to learn how to do even the most basic of tasks, when I heard of the Galaxy AI1 camera features on the Samsung S25 they instantly appealed. Could they really be as intuitive and quick as I’d heard, or would I lose patience and go back to binge watching old Taskmaster episodes instead?

Because I am a self-starter, and in no way because my internet had gone down mid-ep, I decided to conduct a little experiment to see if the S25’s AI could actually help a lost cause like me.

You’ve Been Framed (badly)

I took a photo of my much-loved Beatles’ Yellow Submarine LEGO set to put the Samsung through its paces but unfortunately things got off to a bad start. Don’t get me wrong, the image quality was great, more thanks to the S25’s AI-enhanced ProVisual Engine than anything I did. The colours were vibrant, things were looking good… but I had singularly failed to get the top of the submersible’s periscope in shot. Idiot.

De-Boobing Made Easy

Thankfully the new “Generative Edit” feature is designed specifically for fools like me, allowing you to expand the image to complete any bits you accidentally cropped off. However, I got distracted almost immediately when I realised I could instead use it to make the non-Beatle minifigure, Jeremy Hillary Boob, disappear simply by tapping on him!

People Try To Put Us Down (Talking ‘bout my Generative Edit)

I then used the tool a second time to do what I actually intended to do the first time, rotating the image to create space at the edges that the generative AI could then fill in, to complete my periscope!

You can obviously see how helpful Galaxy AI can be in removing unwanted elements from photos you might actually care about, as well as being able to tweak the edges when something didn’t quite fully end up in frame. That’s all well and good, but it’s also important to sometimes do things just for FUN.

Starting To Feel A Bit Sketchy

So, I popped into another AI tool that Samsung has called “Sketch to Image3”. The claim is that you can literally draw anything you want on a photo, and it’ll then use Galaxy AI to make that real. Of course, that’s impossible unless you’re a witch and, even if you weren’t, you’d struggle to turn my pathetic scrawlings into actual photorealistic art. As evidence, I humbly present Exhibit A: my drawing of a hat:

With the best will in the world, that isn’t a hat. It’s not even a shape. And yet, with literally no other prompts, explanation or context, the Galaxy S25 Ultra somehow managed to turn that drawing into this:

As you can see, not only is little LEGO Paul McCartney now wearing a hat, it is also a hat which seemingly has the aesthetics and texture of a LEGO hat. That’s unreal.

Ring-oh em gee!

But my awesome AI-fever-dream photo wasn’t complete yet. Everyone knows that Ringo is the best Beatle, so it seemed unreasonable that in this brave new world where scribbles can be hats that he should have to endure the indignity of being the same size as all the other, lesser, Beatles. So, I tapped on him, popped him out, span him round and made him four times as big, to ensure everyone in the Submarine knew who the real boss was.

Samsung Really Hits The Spot

Of course, this looks ridiculous, so I made it more fancy by using the Spot Colour tool to make the iconic quartet stand out, again just by tapping on them.

In case it isn’t clear, obviously I know this is stupid. But I guess the more serious point I’m making is that I, someone with zero experience with Photoshop-type skills or this new phone, was able to do all of this, intuitively, in seconds. And, clearly, if you applied these techniques to your actual photos, you could really create some special memories for yourself, and/or some lovely likable content for your social feed…

A Shot In The Dark

But our adventure isn’t over yet. With my internet still on the blink, I did what any sane person would do in the middle of the night and went out into the back garden with my cuddly toy, Bear Bat…

A lot has been made of Samsung’s “Nightography2”, combining the handset’s impressive collection of cameras with the latest developments in AI technology, which combines 30 images into a single shot, to optimise colour and detail. I live in the countryside and it was a cloudy night so, when I took this next photo, I genuinely couldn’t even see where I’d put him to be able to frame the shot. I just pointed the S25 in his direction, switched to Night Mode, hit the button and hoped. Yet, despite the odds, here is little Bear Bat, in all his glory:

By contrast, here’s what my previous phone managed in terms of detail and fidelity moments earlier (this also gives you some idea of just how dark it actually was!):

I know what you’re thinking. Poor Bear Bat, out there in the dark, on his own. But fear not, I did what any responsible parent would do. I popped into the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Gallery app, long tapped on him, and dragged him along the timeline to my earlier photo, so the Liverpool lads could keep him company…

And Ta-Da! An excellent photo, edited to match exactly what I had in my mind. If this is the new standard of photography and photo editing, I may open up the camera more often! I might even upload some pics to my socials, finally - although first I’ll have to fix my terrible wi-fi…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Original Movie to Get 35th Anniversary Theatrical Re-Release

30 juin 2025 à 16:00

In honor of the 1990 movie’s 35th anniversary, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be re-released in theaters on August 17 and 20 via Fathom Entertainment, Saga Arts, and Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.

Book your tickets at Fathom Entertainment.

A new featurette, Turtles Unmasked, will be screened before the movie that includes never-before-seen archival footage, extended deleted scenes, and behind the scenes home movie footage as well as commentary from the film’s director, Steve Barron. Turtles Unmasked was produced in collaboration with the creators of TMNT: Evolution, Mutation & Reboot.

The voice cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – the first live-action movie in the franchise – included Brian Tochi (Revenge of the Nerds, Police Academy 3: Back in Training) as Leonardo, Corey Feldman (Stand By Me, The Goonies) as Donatello, Josh Pais (The Station Agent, A Beautiful Mind), as Raphael, Robbie Rist (Balto, “Doc McStuffins”) as Michelangelo and Kevin Clash (“Sesame Street,” Muppet Treasure Island) as Splinter, the Turtles' master.

Judith Hoag and Elias Koteas co-starred as the Turtles’ allies April O’Neil and Casey Jones, respectively.

The original Ninja Turtles comic book was created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Turtlemania exploded in the late ‘80s, with the success of the indie comic and subsequent animated series and toyline paving the way for the 1990 live-action movie.

Eastman previously looked back on how the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie conquered Hollywood, telling IGN in 2023:

“I can't say enough about how gifted and talented Steve Barron the director was. They brought in a writer named Todd Langen who wrote the script. And the icing on the cake could not have been better, Steve Barron's relationship with Jim Henson, they brought in the Henson Company to create the costumes to help bring these Turtle characters to life. And it was literally a perfect storm of things that lined up and allowed that opportunity to happen the way it did.”

Eastman and Laird maintained creative control over how the heroes in a half shell were adapted for the big screen. “We were inspired by some creators that lost control of their characters through the companies they worked for,” Eastman told IGN.

“Years ago, that was the nature of the business, and we knew how lucky we were to own our characters. So anything that was going to be done with them we wanted full say and approval on.”

Bandai Namco Teases New My Hero Academia Game as It Confirms Summer Showcase This Week

30 juin 2025 à 15:02

Surprise! A new My Hero Academia game is on the way.

We learned the news during Bandai Namco's brief teaser for its upcoming Summer Showcase, and while details were light — at least for now — we can expect more when the showcase goes live on July 2 at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 9pm CEST / 4am JST.

My Hero Academia debuted in April 2016 and became an instant hit, telling the story of Izuku Midoriya as he navigates a school for superheroes after only just inheriting the world's most powerful abilities. Alongside the eight seasons of anime, four films and myriad games have been released, too. The eighth and final series is set to air this coming October.

In the same 30-second teaser, Bandai Namco also revealed we're set to get a new trailer for Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree and a gameplay deep dive of Digimon Story: Time Stranger.

That's not all. Also slated to appear are Code Vein 2, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Death Note Killer Within, Everybody's Golf Hot Shots, Little Nightmares 3, Patapon 1+2 Replay, Shadow Labyrinth, Super Robot Wars Y, and Tekken 8.

We had a good look at The Blood of Dawnwalker quite recently, of course. Rebel Wolves — the studio led by former The Witcher 3 game director and co-director for Cyberpunk 2077, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz — confirmed its upcoming dark fantasy action-RPG will release in 2026 when it shared new gameplay footage earlier this month.

Bandai Namco went big on little things last week, too, confirming Little Nightmares 3 will release on October 10. And if that seems very far away, anyone who pre-orders a digital version of Little Nightmares 3 between now and launch day will get to revisit the game that started it all with Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition as an early access title.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Director Says Reddit Changed How Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Characters Appeared

30 juin 2025 à 14:07

The reveal of classic Spider-Men Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home was influenced by a reddit post seen by the film's director Jon Watts.

Speaking at the Mediterrane Film Festival, Watts said the internet's frenzied speculation over Maguire and Garfield appearing in the film had led one fan to mock up how they saw the pair of characters being re-introduced to audiences — and it was simply too close to Watt's original vision for comfort.

In response, Watt said, filmmakers then crafted an entirely different introduction for the classic Spider-Men — in the house of sidekick Ned's grandma — to deliberately upend fan expectations.

"There had been rumors that Tobey and Andrew were going to be in the movie, and this is while we're shooting," Watts said (thanks, Collider). "We were writing the script, and we were working on where we wanted to reveal the guys, and it always seemed like Peter's going to be sad because Aunt May has just died, and that the portals are going to open, and the two Spider-Men are going to step out. It's probably a rooftop somewhere. It's all sort of hazy. You're still trying to figure it out.

"Then I was on reddit, and I was looking at people who had already made fan art of, 'This is probably what it's going to be like when the two Spider-Men get revealed.' It was on a rooftop. It was sad, two Doctor Strange portals were open and two Spider-Men are stepping out. I was like, 'Well, we can't do that. If that's exactly what everyone thinks we’re going to do, we absolutely can't do that.'"

Describing his thought process as one where he trusted the audience to be wise enough to see where the story was going, but were still keen to be surprised about how it got there, Watts said he asked himself where no fan would expect the long-awaited return of Maguire and Garfield to take place.

"I was like, 'Probably having the two Spider-Men appear at Ned’s Filipino grandma's house in Queens,'" Watts said. "I don't think anyone was doing fan art of that on reddit. It made perfect sense in the story because it's kind of the first time we leave Peter's narrative.

"We don't know what's happened to [Tom Holland's Peter Parker]. We're with Ned, we're with MJ. They have to lay low. Where are they going to go? Ned's grandma's house. So, we built this whole scene around that."

Watts went on to reveal that changing plans had been complicated by filming taking place amid Covid lockdowns, meaning the actor who ended up playing Ned's grandma was "not an actor" at all.

"As soon as you add his grandma, who is not an actor… It was the middle of the pandemic, so we had to find a lady and fly her from Hawaii to Atlanta to shoot all of this," Watts recalled. "So, as soon as you put her in that scene and change the location, now I feel like I've double-crossed the audience in the best way, where they're seeing everything that they were hoping that they would see in a way that they were never expecting they were going to."

Tom Holland will return next year in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is due to begin filming imminently. Joining Holland will be Stranger Things star Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role, alongside MCU veteran Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Punisher. Maguire and Garfield are not expected to return — although who knows what multiversal shenanigans might require their attention in either Avengers: Doomsday, or more likely, Avengers: Secret Wars.

Dune Awakening Players Say Griefing Is Getting Worse, Not Better: 'This Game Has Massive Issues Ahead'

30 juin 2025 à 13:11

Dune: Awakening griefers are at it again, concocting ever-new and exciting ways to make other players' lives miserable. And once again, the griefing concerns Ornithopters.

Last week, Funcom launched Dune: Awakening's Public Test Client and then extended the PvE zone of the Deep Desert from about 10% of the map to 50%. It followed an AMA in which the studio told players frustrated by the endgame experience that it was "formulating a plan" to improve PvP in the Deep Desert. Previously, players branded the endgame as "toxic" due to griefing even after the ability for players to squish each other with their Ornithopter was supposedly patched out.

But despite Funcom's mitigations, unscrupulous players have discovered another way to grief players by landing their Ornis on top of unsuspecting players — this time to prevent them from farming.

"All the griefers are now coming into Hagga to farm spice. They're doing the same thumper and land on thopter technique they perfected in [Deep Desert]. But now they're using it to farm all the minor nodes in Hagga," wrote one aggrieved fan over the weekend.

"This game has some massive issues ahead. Griefers are in an all-out war against everyone else on their server, and yet there's zero way for solos to band together to stop it. And as a Dune fan, I don't think planting a thumper and then having four thopters land on you is part of the mythology."

u/RandoFinder then edited their post to add: "I kept my Thopter at 730 km for 30 minutes until a spice blow, and as soon as I moved, four thopters were chasing me. JFC, y'all are pathetic. This was in Hagga. I had players tonight telling each other to doxx me when I stood up to them in Hagga chat. I've been in WoW general and other horrible chats, but Dune general is the most toxic chat that I've ever seen."

"I think it goes without saying that PVP is PVP, and killing other players in a PVP zone is totally legitimate and expected," responded another player. "Entrapping someone by abusing game mechanics intended to prevent grief of a similar kind, ala pinning people with ornithopters that otherwise can't be destroyed or escaped in a PVE zone, is griefing. Griefing should be explicitly and implicitly disallowed. If you're in a PVE zone, you should not have to worry about players killing you through an abuse of mechanics."

At the time of writing, there has been no public response from Funcom about the issue.

Dune: Awakening has enjoyed a superb launch, with a 'very positive' user review rating on Steam. Within hours of going live on June 10, Funcom's survival MMO had clocked up over 142,000 concurrent players on Valve's platform, and hit a new high earlier this month of 189,333 players. And it's already clocked up over 1 million players, too, making it Funcom's fastest-selling game ever, and securing a Great 8/10 in our review.

If all that's got you interested but you're not sure where to start, make sure to check out all the Dune: Awakening classes you can choose from, and keep an eye on our Dune: Awakening walkthrough for a step-by-step guide to the story. Steve Carell Departing The Office Made Continuing the Show a 'Struggle', Dwight Actor Admits

30 juin 2025 à 13:06

The Office star Rainn Wilson has said that it was tough to continue the hit comedy show without lead actor Steve Carell, who departed two seasons before the series' eventual finale.

Dwight Schrute actor Wilson told Variety that Carell's departure had not come as a surprise to the rest of The Office's cast, as the man playing their boss was already in demand for movie roles. "We knew it was coming for a long time," Wilson said.

Still, the show took time to rediscover its footing following the exit of Carell's character Michael Scott — a period Wilson described as "a little bit chaotic" behind the scenes.

"When Steve left, then it was a little bit chaotic," Wilson said, "trying to figure out the tone of the show and who's the lead and, how are we telling these stories without, you know, the comic engine of the show, which is Michael Scott, and without one of the greatest comic actors in American history at the center of our show. That was also a struggle."

Carell was already a movie star prior to The Office, with roles in Anchorman and The 40-Year-Old Virgin filmed before his turn as Dunder Mifflin's infamous regional manager.

But it was The Office which supercharged Carell's career — just as it also has for Wilson himself, as well as fellow co-star John Krasinski.

With Carell gone, the show's concluding seasons saw the introduction of fresh characters played by James Spader and Catherine Tate in new senior roles, before a final season wrapped up the stories of the series' original characters — ending in the wedding of Dwight and long-term love interest Angela, an event for which Carell briefly returned in a long-awaited cameo.

Next for The Office fans is new spin-off show The Paper, set to debut this September co-created by producer Greg Daniels and starring Domhnall Gleeson. The series will feature the same mockumentary format, this time in the office of a failing local newspaper, and featuring The Office character Oscar in a recurring role.

Carell has previously confirmed he would not be involved in The Paper, as there would be "really no reason" for Michael Scott to appear.

Ironheart Star Addresses Pre-Release Backlash to Latest MCU Show — 'At Least They're Talking About It, Because if They Ain't, Then I'd Be Worried'

30 juin 2025 à 12:24

Hamilton star Anthony Ramos has addressed the negative backlash to Marvel's latest Disney+ series Ironheart, that began online before the series' debut.

A belated spin-off from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever focusing on side character Riri Williams, Ironheart's first three episodes launched last week, while its concluding three episodes arrive tomorrow, July 1.

But before a single episode was released, user reviews had already started criticising Ironheart, and in particular its focus on a Black woman as its lead. Now, Ramos has addressed the online reaction to Ironheart so far.

"You're gonna have negativity no whatever what," Ramos told Buzzfeed, comparing the project to his turn in the Transformers franchise, in 2023 movie Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

"I've been in Transformers, and people are talking s**t. This one, people talking... Everybody's gonna say whatever they wanna say, but at the end of the day we know what we made, and we're proud of what we made.

"We're not necessarily the first to do this, but of all the shows we're definitely different," Ramos continued, "and I think that when you're stepping out a little bit like that, you put yourself in a position... for people to say whatever they want.

"I think everybody's entitled to their opinion and at least they're talking about it. Because if they ain't, then I'd be worried."

Set in Chicago, Ironheart sees Williams building a magic-infused Iron Man-style suit of armor with the help of Ramos' character, a gang leader known as The Hood.

The show's stars were recently backed by MCU legend Robert Downey Jr., who released a video message stating he "couldn't be happier" to see Ironheart star Dominique Thorne in the role. "Long story short, Iron Man loves Ironheart," Downey Jr. said in support.

Overall, Ironheart has received a mixed response from critics, while Marvel itself has repeatedly teased the show's introduction of a major comic book villain in the show's final episodes, encouraging fans to tune in again this week.

'Xbox Hardware Is Dead,' Says Founding Team Member, 'It Looks Like Xbox Has No Desire — Or Literally Can't — Ship Hardware Anymore'

30 juin 2025 à 11:39

One of the original founding members of Xbox, Laura Fryer, believes the firm's hardware ambitions are "dead."

In a new video in which Fryer reflects upon her time shipping the OG Xbox and Xbox 360, she calls the company's current roadmap "chaos," asks "is the flashy new ROG Ally the real deal," and ponders what the future may hold for Xbox going forward.

"There is literally no reason to buy this handheld," Fryer opined of the ROG Xbox Ally. "Obviously, as one of the founding members of the Xbox team, I'm not pleased with where things are today. I don't love watching all of the value that I helped create slowly get eroded away. I'm sad because, from my perspective, it looks like Xbox has no desire — or literally can't — ship hardware anymore. So, this partnership is about a slow exit from the hardware business completely. Personally, I think Xbox hardware is dead."

Xbox is focused on driving fans to Game Pass, Fryer continued, saying that while there's "value" in that (and while it's possibly one of the reasons why Outer Worlds 2 was slapped with a $80 price tag), she still questioned what the company's long-term strategy is, especially with Xbox's 25th anniversary looming.

"And here's the thing — maybe it will work," she added. "Xbox has a deep portfolio. [Oblivion Remastered] was obviously a huge success, and they can continue to outsource that work to external companies and make a lot of money releasing their older games — older games from an era when Xbox knew how to build them.

"But what is the long-term plan? Where are the new hits? What will make people care about the Xbox 25 years from now?

"Next year marks the 25th anniversary of the Xbox, and I'm sure that they will have some big announcements and plans for honoring the milestone. Maybe next year is the year. Maybe next year is the year that the fog will clear, and all of us will see the beauty in these latest announcements. I guess we'll just have to wait and see…"

Last week, we reported that Microsoft is allegedly planning significant layoffs in its gaming business that could come as early as this week. Managers at Microsoft have reportedly already been briefed about the Xbox layoffs as well as wider cuts at the company, which are expected to hit sales teams in particular.

For the gaming business, The Verge reported Microsoft plans to make the cuts ahead of the release of its next generation of consoles. It comes after Microsoft announced a partnership with AMD to power the next generation of Xbox, including its first-party future Xbox consoles. Microsoft has yet to say when it plans to launch the new devices.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Star Just Gave Fans Their Biggest Hint at a Remake Yet

30 juin 2025 à 10:50

While Ubisoft keeps quiet about a potential Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake, the actor behind the game's hero Edward Kenway has offered up some teasing words to fans.

A souped-up version of Ubisoft's piratical Assassin's Creed entry has been the subject of numerous leaks over the past few years, and is now widely expected among fans. But Ubisoft itself has never confirmed the project — and declined to comment on the matter when contacted by IGN last month, when an Assassin's Creed merchandise maker also dropped an obvious Black Flag remake hint.

Now, at a fan convention, Edward Kenway voice actor Matt Ryan has given perhaps the most obvious tease so far that something is on the horizon.

"Have you beaten the game?" Ryan asks a fan, as captured on video by TikTok user therebelarchive. "Well, you might have to beat it again..."

When the fan replies "Is this true? I have to run through all of them again," Ryan responds with a knowing wink, and then says:

"Well, especially this one. There's a reason I say that, but I can't say anything."

While Ryan is likely aware of the ongoing speculation around a Black Flag remaster, could his involvement in it extend beyond seeing his prior work re-released? Reports have suggested Ubisoft is working on a substantial re-working of Black Flag — does that mean Ryan himself is involved, re-recordling dialogue, or contributing to new story elements?

Multiple reports charting the game's development have surfaced over the past couple of years, with the Black Flag remake allegedly being worked on by Skull and Bones studio Ubisoft Singapore (remember that Skull and Bones itself started life as a Black Flag spin-off), with work underway to offer something ultimately more substantial than just a simple remaster. Reports have suggested that this new version of Black Flag will boast all of the visual fidelity found in the recent Assassin's Creed Shadows, as well as expanded wildlife and combat systems.

With no all-new Assassin's Creed game set for the end of this year, fans believe the Black Flag remake would be well positioned to arrive in time for the holidays. Here's hoping Ryan isn't made to walk the plank for dropping this latest hint, and it's not too long before Ubisoft makes the remake official.

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I’m using my Flame Shard technique to ignite a 20-candle cake for Jade Empire. Released on the OG Xbox by BioWare, this RPG was a bold departure from the studio's previous titles, blending real-time combat with a rich narrative steeped in Chinese mythology. I have fond memories of assuming the role of the Last Spirit Monk, navigating a world filled with gods, demons, and moral choices that shaped my journey while reaffirming my lack of IRL decency.

The game's unique setting and incorporation of a constructed language, Tho Fan, added depth to its immersive world-building. Also, the Bruce Lee fan in me simply liked meeting new foes, asking them if they were thirsty, and then serving them a large glass of wa-taaa. Sadly, despite its innovative design and storytelling, Jade Empire didn't achieve the commercial success of BioWare's later franchises and remains a cult classic to fans like me.
