Death of a Unicorn Review

10 mars 2025 à 23:45

Death of a Unicorn opens in theaters Friday, March 28. This review is based on a screening at the 2025 SXSW Film and TV Festival.

There’s an intriguing premise with the potential for entertaining moral conundrums at the center of Death of a Unicorn. First, corporate lawyer Elliot Kintner (Paul Rudd) hits a mysterious creature. Then, when it turns out the animal’s corpse has healing powers, Elliot and his conscientious teenage daughter Ridley (Jenna Ortega) must figure out how to hide the accident from Elliot’s wealthy pharmaceutical boss. Unfortunately, this synopsis is about as far, as deep, and as detailed as it gets for the latest horror comedy from indie powerhouse A24. Despite featuring a number of fun performances – especially that of Will Poulter as the pharma CEO’s wily failson – Alex Scharfman’s feature debut quickly plateaus.

Death of a Unicorn’s emotional throughlines all seem to end where they begin. In the opening scenes, Elliot and Ridley land in the Canadian mountains by plane; as the college teen falls asleep on her father’s shoulder, only for him to shimmy out of the way to grab fallen legal documents, causing her to hit her head on the armrest. It’s a wonderful, hilarious encapsulation of their estranged dynamic. Ridley’s mother has passed away; in response, Elliot threw himself into his work, irrevocably changing his relationship with Ridley. Now, with his ailing boss Odell Leopold (Richard E. Grant) looking for a proxy before he dies, Elliot has the chance to set Ridley up for life, but on the condition that he prove himself a family man as well.

En route to the executive’s isolated mansion, the father-daughter duo, distracted by their bickering, mows down a white horse with a single horn – a creature the characters collectively, and reluctantly, decide to refer to as a unicorn. This leads to strange, fantastical happenings – including hypnotic visions and magical healing – but not before some delightful, human-on-apparent-unicorn violence intended to put the injured creature out of its misery. Its bright purple blood splatters everywhere, but the imperfectly realized CGI beast (forgivable, considering the ruckus it causes) isn’t quite dead, which further complicates Elliot’s already knotty interview with Odell.

This setup has all the makings of a story that evolves in delightful ways, but Death of a Unicorn never progresses past the (initially amusing) philosophical debates kicked off by the Leopolds’ discovery of their guests’ fairytale roadkill. It’s a conversation-heavy film until its creature-feature final act, but none of that jabbering changes the minds of anyone on screen – least of all Ridley, the film’s ostensible conscience. Ortega delivers a wonderfully lived-in performance as a baggily-dressed youth withdrawn from the world, defined entirely by her activist leaning. She’s an actor capable of injecting great thought and subtext into any scenario, but Death of a Unicorn is too flimsy even for her talents, rendering Ridley something of a blank slate who ends up so unwavering as to be grating. (It's a bad sign when the voice of reason and compassion in an attempted cinematic takedown of ruthless billionaires makes you consider siding with the billionaires.) Then again, what else is there to do than consider alternatives that the film and its characters do not, since all its drama, comedy, and thrills swiftly flatline.

Bearing the brunt of Ortega’s ire, the typically entertaining Rudd delivers an exceptionally plain, checked-out performance. And that’s a shame, considering the color the rest of the cast manages to bring to the screen: Grant is delightfully animated, as is Téa Leoni as Odell’s opportunistic wife. Jessica Hynes and Anthony Carrigan, meanwhile, add lively dimensions as the family’s stone-faced enforcer and fed-up butler. But it’s Poulter who comes closest to rescuing the film from its malaise. Nearly every line he delivers is hilarious, owing to how deftly and energetically he balances his character’s slimy scheming with the insecurities of someone who’s never made it on his own. He’s also the only actor whose performance seems to evolve or transform in any way, even if this is courtesy the drug-like properties of a magical substance.

There’s some amount of imagination at play, and A24 is hardly in the wrong for throwing its weight behind a first-time filmmaker. The unicorn’s designs are imaginative, as are its magical abilities – even if their discovery is rendered useless by characters making erratic choices, and losing their key motivations when convenient. Its horror elements tend to be inconsistent, especially in tone. While some sequences are meant to pay homage to Jurassic Park, the outcome tends to align with that film’s lesser reboot, Jurassic World: Cartoonish villains and complex, relatable characters alike suffer vicious deaths designed for our enjoyment and applause. As a result, some of the intended revelry feels icky.

Death of a Unicorn is a passive and ultimately tiring experience.

Scharfman clearly has a knack for staging and blocking physical comedy, even if the way he actually captures it is lacking here. The eye is seldom drawn to what’s funniest, but rather, to what happens to be in the center of the frame. There’s also the ingenious conceit of the creature’s presence messing with electricity, which allows the film to seamlessly switch into haunted house mode when necessary. However, the tension and humor of these sequences don’t adequately rise and fall, and the editing is squeamish about what little cartoonish gore it features. This renders Death of a Unicorn a passive and ultimately tiring experience, one that gestures frequently towards fun and interesting ideas, but rarely follows through on them.

Where to Buy the Phenomenal AMD Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT Graphics Cards

10 mars 2025 à 23:45

If you decided to hold off on Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs to see if AMD's new offerings were up to snuff, then you made the right choice. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards are the new mid-range champions of this generation. Both cards offer phenomenal performance while undercutting their Nvidia competition in price. They go up for sale on March 6 starting at 6am PST. The Radeon RX 9070 starts at $550 and the 9070 XT starts at $600. Let's just hope that - unlike Nvidia - AMD has its supply under control.

The jury's out as to whether or not inventory will hold, but given how well positioned these GPUs are in the stack, I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up selling out quickly. I've listed below the best places to pick up one of these cards. The current trend is that if you're set on purchasing a GPU at launch, you don't have the luxury of choosing your brand or model. If you see any in stock at a price you're happy with, buy now and think later.

TLDR; This article assumes, not guarantees, there are actual graphics cards to purchase. You may stumble on this page and find out that every model at every retailer is sold out.

Quick Links: Radeon RX 9070 / 9070 XT Graphics Card Listings

How much will these new AMD GPUs cost?

One of the main reasons why these new AMD cards are sure to be popular is the price to performance ratio. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 costs the same as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 yet offers superior performance and more VRAM for the same price. Even more impressively, the Radeon RX 9070 XT trades blows with the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and costs $150 less. We'll see if these suggested retail prices hold, but if they do, the winner is a no-brainer.

  • AMD Radeon RX 9070 - $550
  • AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT - $600

Where should I preorder these new AMD GPUs?

The retailers below are your best chances to score one of the new AMD GPUs. Four of the retailers (Best Buy, Newegg, Amazon, and B&H Photo) will have listings online. One retailer (Micro Center) will only carry them in-store. There's no way to tell exactly how many units are available at each retailer, however a Wccftech article claims that "AMD and AIBs are reportedly shipping more Radeon RX 9070 XTs than all Nvidia's RTX 50 series GPUs combined."

If you want to maximize your chance of picking up one of the new AMD cards on launch day, your best bet is to check each and every retailer and buy the first card that lets you proceed all the way through checkout. Just remember that potentially thousands of other people will be clicking on the same link as you.

Amazon

Amazon is the one-stop shop for just about everything, including AMD GPUs. Unfortunately, manually looking for one of these GPUs on Amazon's site is quite difficult. Amazon doesn't have a general page that lists all of the available video cards, and the search results are riddled with postings from marketplace vendors charging outrageous prices or, even worse, trying to swindle unsuspecting shoppers. To make things easier, I'll add specific GPU models when I see them available, but as a rule of thumb, make sure that the vendor you're buying from is "shipped and sold by Amazon".

Best Buy

Based on past GPU launches, I suspect that one of your best chances of purchasing the new AMD graphics cards online will be at Best Buy. This retailer should carry every brand that will be available at launch, including Sapphire, XFX, Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte, and Powercolor.

Best Buy's available inventory depends on your region; if you're fortunate enough to live in an area where graphics cards in general might not be in high demand, you'll have a much better chance of scoring a GPU here than anywhere else. Also important to note is that Best Buy GPU orders generally ship out quickly since they're either listed as in stock or out of stock (no "backorders" here). That means you'll likely receive your card in hand within a week.

Newegg

You'll also definitely want to prioritize Newegg. Like Best Buy, Newegg is expected to carry every make and model of the Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT graphics cards. Newegg is an authorized reseller, so as long as you are buying from Newegg direct and not a marketplace vendor, you'll be eligible for the full manufacturer's warranty. Similar to Best Buy, orders usually ship out within the week, unless the product is backordered or out of stock.

Even if the standalone cards are sold out, Newegg may sell these AMD GPUs as part of a bundle kit that includes any combination of a motherboard, CPU, RAM, or power supply. If you're working on a DIY computer build and haven't purchased all of your components, this might work to your advantage. These bundle offers do eventually sell out, but at a slower rate than the standalone cards.

Micro Center (In-Store)

Without a doubt, Micro Center will be your best chance at getting an AMD GPU on launch day if you happen to live close by to a local store. Micro Center will most assuredly reserve all their GPU sales for in-store customers. Even if you are local, though, you should still get there as early as possible (ideally when the store opens).

We reviewed both AMD graphics cards

We rated the AMD Radeon RX 9070 an 8/10. It costs the same as the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 but it performs better in the majority of games we tested and also includes more VRAM (16GB vs 12GB), which should supposedly make it more futureproof. From our tests, it draws about the same amount of power as the RTX 5070.

We rated the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT a "perfect" 10/10. Even though it costs $150 less than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, the 9070 XT beats it out in several of the games we tested. In a few benchmarks, the results aren't even close. The 9070 XT also has 16GB of VRAM, the same as the 9070 and 5070 Ti. On the flip side, it does draw more power and get hotter on average compared to the RTX 5070 Ti.

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards are the new mid-range champions of this generation. Both cards offer phenomenal performance while undercutting their Nvidia competition in price.

Right now, Amazon has one 9070 XT GPU in stock, and it's shipped and sold by Amazon instead of a marketplace vendor, so it's legit. Note that Powercolor is charging a $100 premium over the $599 MSRP.

Manscaped Most Popular Men's Shavers Are on Sale

10 mars 2025 à 23:10

Manscaped is a well known boutique retailer of men's haircare products, with a great name to boot. Its shavers boast great build quality, features, and performance, but they're also pretty pricey. Fortunately, if you buy from Manscaped directly, there's a 15% off coupon you can get when you sign up for the email newsletter. Manscaped is also offering free shipping on all orders, with no minimum threshold. Alternatively, Amazon is offering a 10% off discount on the entire brand.

The Chairman Plus at Manscaped

Manscaped's Chairman is its bread-and-butter electric foil shaver and it comes in two variants. The Chairman "Plus" is the more affordable model, coming in at $99.99 (or $85 on sale). It features three easy-glide stainless steel FlexAdjust foils that do a great job of following the contours of your face while keeping friction at a minimum. A precision trimmer attachment keeps your stache and beard lines neat and trim. It's IPX7 waterproof rated so you can use it in the shower, and the magnetically attached head pops up cleanly for easy cleaning. The Chairman Plus can last up to 60 minutes from a single charge and a USB Type-C port means you won't fret over losing a proprietary cable.

The Chairman Pro at Manscaped

The Chairman "Pro" retails for $159.99, but it ups the ante with four stainless steel foils, a stubble trimmer attachment, an integrated LED spotlight for better visibility, and a longer 75 minutes of runtime. Like the Chairman Plus, wired charging is accomplished over USB Type-C, however the Chairman Pro also has the option for wireless charging.

The Beard Hedger by Manscaped

If you've got a seriously thick beard where a stubble trimmer just won't do, then check out The Beard Hedger. This shaver is designed for the double duty of shearing unkempt beards that have grown out for longer than you might have wanted to, and for finishing work. Features include a 41mm titanium coated blade, 7,200RPM DC motor, a zoom wheel with adjustments for up to 20 different length settings, IPX7 waterproof rating, and a 60-minute battery runtime.

The Handyman by Manscaped

The Handyman is a perfect take-along shaver. If you're traveling by plane, most electric shavers are TSA approved and can be brought along in carry-on luggage, but the Handyman makes it easier with its compact size. It has two blade heads: a leveler that takes care of long hair and a foil that shaves down the remaining stubble. The lithium-ion battery features a 60-minute runtime with a 5-minute quick charge option over USB Type-C. A handly little cover is included to protect the blades when not in use. Like Manscaped's other shavers, the Handyman is IPX7 waterproof rated.

The Dome Shaver at Manscaped

The Dome Shaver is Manscaped's answer to effortlessly maintaining a clean shaven head. The "Plus" model features four double-tack FlexAdjust blade heads with ultra-thin stainless steel foils and a powerful 8,000RPM motor. The stubby ergonomic design makes it easy for self-use, and it is IPX7 rated waterproof so you can use it in the shower. A single charge will give you 60 minutes of runtime with USB Type-C charging. The premium "Pro" model is upgraded with five FlexAdjust blade heads, an even more powerful 9,500RPM motor, and a longer 90-minute runtime, all for only $35 more.

The Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra by Manscaped

Let's face it. Your face isn't the only part of your body that grows unwanted hair. Although you could technically get away with using a disposable razer, Manscaped makes it easier and less painful with the aptly named Lawn Mower. The Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra is the newest model in the series and its secret sauce is the dual interchangeable blade head design: a trimmer blade to take down long, thick hairs, and a foil blade to finish the job.

They're all rated for up to 60W of USB Power Delivery and are encased in a braided nylon sheath for extra durability and aeshetics. These cables have over 5,500 ratings on Amazon with an average 4.6-star review. Fakespot, a site that determines how many of the reviews are fake, gives this product a solid "A" rating, which is rather uncommon.

Need a power bank? Here's a good one for $9

For a limited time, Amazon is offering the popular INIU 10,000mAh USB power bank for just $8.99 after you clip the 10% off and 40% off clippable coupons on the product page. We very rarely see 10,000mAh power banks listed for under $10 so grab this one while you can. INIU power banks have solid reviews and are less expensive than equivalent Anker models.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Drops to a Ridiculously Low Price on Amazon and Best Buy

10 mars 2025 à 21:43

When it comes to Android, the Google Pixel line has some of the best phones on the market. The Pixel 9 series that was released just last year has one of the greatest cameras on any smartphone currently on the market and AI features that are really quite fun to play around with. The price point on the "Pro" versions of these phones also makes them a great budget option for anyone looking for a good iPhone alternative.

If you're in the market for a new phone, Amazon and Best Buy have currently dropped the price of the Pixel 9 Pro XL to a new low. The price of the best overall phone from the latest generation has officially dropped below the lowest-ever price we saw on just the standard Pixel 9 last week. This deal likely won't last long.

The Best Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Deal at Amazon Today

This discount is only available on the 128 GB version of this phone and only for the Obsidian color at Amazon, with three different colors available at Best Buy at this price. This is the lowest-ever price we've seen on the Pixel 9 Pro XL since it was first released last year. It actually matches the lowest price we've seen on the regular Picel 9 at $599 and is $200 less than the best price we saw last month. This is an overall incredible deal on a premium unlocked Android phone, making it an excellent time to purchase one if you're already in the market for an upgrade.

The main difference between the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro XL is the size of the phone. The XL comes with a 6.8-inch screen, which is just a bit larger. Both of the phones come with the Google Tensor G4 chip and offer pretty good performance overall.

When Is the Next Line of Pixel Phones Coming Out?

If you are hoping to wait for the next generation of Pixel phones to arrive before you make a purchase, you will still need to wait quite a while. Similar to this year, we expect Google to launch the Pixel 10 line sometime in August or early September. The new phones will usually come out a month or two before the new iPhones tend to release.

With that release timing in mind, we will most likely see the biggest discounts on the Pixel 9 phones around Prime Day in July. That being said, it isn't likely that the price of the Pixel 9 XL will drop any lower than this price

Looking for more phone deals? We've also found a sale on the RedMagic 10 Pro at Amazon that is worth checking out if you're in the market for a gaming phone.

The New AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Is the Best Gaming CPU, and It's Back in Stock on Amazon and Best Buy

10 mars 2025 à 21:10

If you're in the process of building out a new gaming PC and you're looking for the best gaming processor, this is it. Right now, the recently released AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D AM5 desktop processor is back in stock on Amazon and Best Buy at its retail price of $479 shipped. This is the official launch price with zero markup, and it's not bundled with anything you don't want or need. The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the best gaming processor currently on the market (across both AMD and Intel) and a better choice for gamers than the more expensive Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.

Back in Stock: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Desktop Processor

AMD's X3D series processors are optimized for gaming. In that respect, they bench better than even the most expensive of AMD's standard lineup of CPUs thanks to AMD's 3D V-Cache technology. Although perfectly capable of handling multitasking, rendering, and creation, the limited number of cores means they aren't the ideal processors for those tasks. At its retail price of $479, the 9800X3D is $110 cheaper than the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K ($589) and $170 cheaper than the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, even though it outperforms both of them in gaming. Unless you're a staunch Intel fan, or you're still on AM4 and don't want to upgrade all of your components, the 9800X3D is the obvious choice for your next gaming rig.

AMD is on a hot streak with its new CPU and GPUs

If you decided to hold off on Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs to see if AMD's new offerings were up to snuff, then you made the right choice. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards are the new mid-range champions of this generation. Both cards offer phenomenal performance while undercutting their Nvidia competition in price. The Radeon RX 9070 starts at $550 and the 9070 XT starts at $600 (although it turns out that manufacturers are hiking the price again). How to Watch (and Read) Tim Burton's Batman Universe In Chronological Order

10 mars 2025 à 20:47

Tim Burton may not have directed a Batman movie in over 30 years, but his DC Universe is still going strong. Michael Keaton got the chance to reprise the Bruce Wayne role in 2023’s The Flash, a movie that (briefly) ported his Batman over to the DCEU. But even now, the Burton-Verse continues to expand through new comic book and novel spinoffs like the recently announced Batman: Revolution.

It’s gotten to the point where the question of how to watch and read the entire Burton-Verse is a surprisingly complicated one. But don’t worry, we’re here to help. Read on for a full breakdown of how the various Tim Burton Batman movies, novels, and comics fit together.

You can also check out our full guide to watching all the Batman movies in order.

How Many Burton-Verse Batman Stories Are There?

Counting the yet-to-be-released Batman: Revolution, there are currently seven projects set in Burton’s Batman universe - three films, two novels, and two comics. That lineup includes 1989’s Batman, 1992’s Batman Returns, and 2023’s The Flash, as well as the books Batman: Resurrection and Batman: Revolution and the comics Batman ‘89 and Batman ‘89: Echoes.

This lineup also excludes 1995’s Batman Forever and 1997’s Batman & Robin, which are no longer considered to be part of Burton’s Batman universe. We’ll get into the reasons why a bit later.

Where to Buy Tim Burton’s Batman

Although you can stream Burton’s Batman movies on Max and read the Batman ‘89 comics on DC Universe Infinite, it never hurts to go the physical media route these days. If you’re looking to buy the Burton-Verse movies and books, here are some good options:

Batman: Revolution (Hardcover)

Every Tim Burton Batman Movie and Book in Chronological Order

*Each blurb contains a broad overview of the plot and mentions the heroes/villains who appear in that film or book.

1. Batman (1989)

This is the original movie that started it all. Burton’s first Batman movie pits Michael Keaton’s Dark Knight (still early in his superhero career) against Jack Nicholson’s Joker. The movie inspired a summer of “Bat-Mania” and proved there was a healthy appetite for darker, more mature superhero movies in Hollywood.

2. Batman: Resurrection (2024)

This novel by John Jackson Miller is set in the aftermath of the first movie, as Batman deals with the remnants of the Joker Gang and confronts the rise of the shape-shifting villain known as Clayface. The book is designed to bridge the gap between Batman and Batman Returns, including introducing Christopher Walken’s character Max Shreck and giving readers more insight into the collapse of Bruce Wayne and Vicki Vale’s (Kim Basinger) romance.

3. Batman: Revolution (2025)

Miller is returning for a second novel set between the events of Batman and Batman Returns. This time, Revolution will introduce the Burton-Verse’s version of Riddler, a lowly newspaper copy editor named Norman Pinkus who laments the fact that no one appreciates his aptitude for solving crimes. Pinkus will turn to a life of crime and capitalize on the city’s growing resentment toward the wealthy elite of Gotham.

4. Batman Returns (1992)

Burton and Keaton both returned for this film sequel, which is set a few years after the events of the first movie. This time, Batman goes up against Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman and Danny DeVito’s Penguin as Gotham City endures a hellish holiday season. Despite initial plans for a third Batman movie, both Burton and Keaton ultimately dropped out of what became 1995’s Batman Forever.

5. Batman ‘89 (2021)

DC’s Batman ‘89 comic serves as a direct sequel to Batman Returns and is set three years later. The six-issue comic, written by Batman screenwriter Sam Hamm and illustrated by Joe Quinones, draws inspiration from Burton’s abandoned plans for a third Batman movie. The book sees Billy Dee Williams’ Harvey Dent become Two-Face, while also introducing a version of Robin modeled after Marlon Wayans (who at one point was attached to play the role in Batman Returns). Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman also makes a return appearance, paying off on the tease from the end of Batman Returns.

Click here to learn more about how Batman ‘89 adds to the Burton-Verse.

6. Batman ‘89: Echoes (2024)

Just as Batman ‘89 is essentially Burton’s Batman 3 in comic form, Hamm and Quinones reunited for a follow-up that acts as a hypothetical fourth Burton movie. Three years after the events of Batman ‘89, Keaton’s Bruce Wayne has gone missing, leaving Robin and the new Batgirl to deal with the threat posed by Scarecrow (modeled after Jeff Goldblum) and Harley Quinn (modeled after Madonna).

7. The Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part One (2019)

While only hardcore Burton-Verse completionists need to worry about this one, it's worth mentioning that Robert Wuhl briefly reprises the role of intrepid reporter Alexander Knox in the first chapter of The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. That episode briefly shifts focus to Earth-89, where Knox is seen reading a newspaper in a park as red skies form over Gotham. It's one of numerous live-action DC cameos in the crossover.

8. The Flash (2023)

While it didn’t fare well critically or commercially, The Flash at least has the distinction of giving Bat-fans some closure on the saga of Keaton’s Batman. Keaton himself returns to play a much older Bruce Wayne, after Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen mucks about with the DCEU timeline and inadvertently trades one Batman for another. Meeting The Flash and learning about the threat of Michael Shannon’s General Zod is enough to coax Batman out of retirement for one last, high-stakes mission.

Tim Burton’s Batman Universe in Release Order

  • Batman (1989)
  • Batman Returns (1992)
  • Batman ‘89 (2021)
  • The Flash (2023)
  • Batman ‘89: Echoes (2024)
  • Batman: Resurrection (2024)
  • Batman: Revolution (2025)

How Do Batman Forever and Batman & Robin Fit In?

1995’s Batman Forever and 1997’s Batman & Robin were once considered sequels to Batman and Batman Returns, despite the fact that neither Burton nor Keaton returned for these projects. The presence of supporting characters like Pat Hingle’s Commissioner Gordon and Michael Gough’s Alfred maintained some degree of continuity with the previous films. However, these two sequels are generally regarded as being inferior to their predecessors, as well as being far different tonally.

With the release of The Flash, DC now officially treats Batman Forever and Batman & Robin as being set in a separate version of the DC Universe. The Batman ‘89 comics now act as the definitive, canon sequels to Batman Returns, revealing what happened to Keaton’s Bruce Wayne between the events of Returns and The Flash.

The Canceled Batgirl Movie

Warning: this section contains spoilers for The Flash!

The Flash wasn’t always intended to be the end of the road for Keaton’s Batman. At one point, the character was being positioned for an ongoing role in the DCEU (before WB cut that cinematic universe’s future short). Reportedly, a previous version of the movie ended not with Batman dying in battle against Zod in the Flashpoint timeline, but with both Keaton’s Bruce and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl crossing over into the restored DCEU. That’s where WB’s canceled Batgirl movie comes in.

Keaton wound up reprising the role again in Batgirl, which reportedly cast him as an aged, Batman Beyond-esque mentor to Leslie Grace’s rookie Barbara Gordon. J.K. Simmons also returned as the DCEU Commissioner Gordon, while Brendan Fraser played the villain Firefly.

The Batgirl movie made it well into post-production before WB infamously pulled the plug and canceled it as a tax writeoff. It became a major casualty in the studio’s evolving plans for the DC line and the pivot to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. Barring any major leaks, Keaton fans will never have an opportunity to see what will likely be his final Batman performance.

For more on the future of DC movies, find out why Gunn needs to keep Robert Pattinson’s Batman out of the DCU and brush up on every DC movie and series in development.

The Accountant 2 Review

10 mars 2025 à 20:38

The Accountant opens in theaters on Friday, April 25. This review is based on a screening at the 2025 SXSW Film and TV Festival.

You can tell from the way the title is stylized on screen – as a mathematical exponent, like Alien³ – that The Accountant 2 has removed the self-seriousness from its predecessor’s otherwise delightful formula. Gavin O’Connor’s sequel is a blast, building on the story and relationships of 2016’s The Accountant to reveal a touching, hilarious portrait of fraught brotherhood within a charged and politically relevant plot. All the while, it leans full-tilt into a goofy setup that’s executed with utter confidence: Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck), a.k.a. The Accountant, is a savant number-cruncher for the mob and part-time vigilante gunman whose autism is gently approached and realistically performed, but framed as though it were a superpower.

There’s less bean counting in The Accountant 2, but far more blood and bullets, starting with an opening scene in which former Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (or FinCEN) director Raymond King (J.K. Simmons) is gunned down while working a case in secret. Once the Commissioner Gordon to The Accountant’s Batman – fitting, as Affleck and Simmons have since played that dynamic in the DC Extended Universe – King has only been following leads in which he’s emotionally invested. His death leaves behind an intricate puzzle for Wolff to solve, alongside King’s Treasury Department successor, the returning Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). The case that got King killed opens up a web of human trafficking between Central America and the southern U.S., exposing the ways in which undocumented immigrants who have little legal recourse are brutally exploited. Where the first film was mostly unsentimental about its central plot (which revolved around a robotics firm), The Accountant 2 conjures immense sympathy with its topical melodrama and the mystery of King’s death.

But as somber as this story seems at first blush, it’s also peppered with wildly amusing moments of character. That begins with Wolff’s re-introduction, during which he games a speed-dating algorithm by sprucing up his profile in all the right ways, only to botch every face-to-face encounter. It’s the perfect kind of silly, placing Wolff’s isolation front and center while setting up his impending reunion with his estranged brother, fellow contract killer Braxton (Jon Bernthal), whose help he seeks to solve King’s murder. Also assisting Wolff is his returning, remote, technologically savvy assistant Justine (Allison Robertson, replacing Allison Wright from the first film), a nonverbal resident of a mansion-like academy for young autistic students. She has her own legion of hackers-in-training this time, à la Professor X – who she even quotes at one point. Like I said: perfectly silly, even if the portrayal of neurodivergence constantly threatens to tip (but never fully does) into offensiveness.

A mysterious, scarily capable assassin known only as Anaïs (Daniella Pineda) seems to somehow be involved in King’s case, but The Accountant 2’s lopsided structure ensures that she disappears for lengthy periods. However, the layers it reveals to her seemingly single-minded character do retroactively justify those absences. After all, this is the kind of movie where no matter how many conveniences cause its jigsaw pieces to click into place, the result is no less entertaining.

Just like The Accountant, whose heightened tone and reliance on tried-and-true storytelling devices – enormous coincidences, long-lost family connections – wouldn’t feel out of place in a Bollywood movie, the sequel similarly runs a crowd-pleasing gamut. The action is capable and clear. The plot, while complicated in structure, takes the characters to interesting places (both geographically and emotionally). The comedy is fine-tuned and, most importantly, entirely character-and-performance based.

Things simmer on a medium flame until Bernthal shows up and instantly sets the screen ablaze. An actor long compared to Robert De Niro, he finally gets his own “You talkin’ to me?” moment in The Accountant 2, which paves the path for Braxton’s surprising vulnerability – he’s a lost, lonely soul who just wants his older brother’s friendship. Affleck, despite a voice that seems more influenced by The Simpsons’ Comic Book Guy this time around, returns seamlessly to the role of Wolff. Having retreated almost entirely to the solitude of his tricked-out Airstream trailer, he seems to want to connect as well, but his misreadings of his brother’s body language and intentions make this difficult. Braxton is frank and playful, and Bernthal imbues the character’s body language with an easy-going fluidity, which makes for an enchantingly funny contrast with Wolff’s unwavering stiffness.

The clashes between the brothers are the movie’s heart and soul – this especially comes to light during their downtime from vigilantism (and from Medina’s disapproval of their methods). One scene in an LA square dancing bar is a particular delight, between Braxton’s eagerness to throw hands, and Wolff’s wonderfully roundabout methods of flirtation, which involves him calculating his way onto the dance floor. It’s a sequence that demonstrates O’Connor understanding that movement and character are intrinsically bound, and in action cinema, you can’t really have one without building up the other.

The Accountant 2 ensures that its humor and drama go hand-in-hand at every turn.

The Accountant 2 is a surprisingly sentimental sequel, which keeps even the most scattered elements of its plot firmly glued together. It’s filled with the kind of unapologetic cheese that Hollywood action has long since replaced with irreverent, quippy snark, ensuring that its humor and drama go hand-in-hand at every turn, resulting in one of the year’s most well-rounded studio pictures.

Even in 2025, the Audeze Maxwell Remains One of the Best Gaming Headsets Available

10 mars 2025 à 19:49

I’ve reviewed a lot of headsets in recent years; some great and some not so great. They’ve tended to prioritize certain aspects over others in order to stand out, with a few being solid jacks-of-all-trades that find their way into my list for best gaming headsets. But even after putting all those through their paces, high-end or otherwise, few come close to a long-time favorite – I’m talking about the Audeze Maxwell.

I’m revisiting it since it has been one of my top recommendations for quite some time (especially for PS5 owners) and to see how it holds up in 2025. While newer headsets have more refinements and/or sophisticated features, very few come close to the Maxwell in terms of pure audio performance, as it’s built like a pair of audiophile-style headphones. That’s not to say it doesn’t do everything else right, because it’s still well-rounded with comfort, durability, and a solid mic. You’ll want to invoke some strict scrutiny when spending around $300 for a gaming headset, but the Audeze Maxwell still earns its stripes.

Audeze Maxwell – Design and Comfort

The first thing I noticed coming back to the Maxwell is just how hefty it is. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though – it’s built like a brick house and has been durable through the years, but it’s still the heaviest headset I’ve used, coming in at 490g. However, its weight never felt like it wore me down or made the experience uncomfortable. The headband, earcups, and forks are all solid aluminum to give it that high-end sturdiness, and there isn’t really any loud branding or outlandish stylization which keeps it looking sleek and understated in true audiophile style.

The Maxwell has thick, dense, and plushy foam earpads wrapped in leatherette with just the right balance between firmness and softness to provide long-term comfort. Clamp force is quite light as well, which is nice for your ears, but this means it relies a lot more on the headband to bear the weight on your head. While the Maxwell has a fairly basic design with a thin layer or foam between the steel headband and suspension strap, it’s sufficient for alleviating the pressure atop your head. That suspension strap is also how you get the headset to fit properly, and it’s one of the few shortcomings of the Maxwell – it snaps into a set of notches on the inside of the headset and it’s a pain to adjust. This doesn’t give you much room for finer adjustments, but once I found the right fit, I didn’t have to think about it again.

Audeze keeps things simple and focuses on the things that matter most.

All the built-in controls for the Maxwell are on the left earcup. Alongside the earpad, you’ll find the master volume wheel and the in-game volume/chat mix wheel next to each other – you can easily mix these up at first, but I got used to distinguishing the two with enough time. There’s also a 3.5mm audio jack in case you want to use it as an analog wired headset, a USB-C port for charging and connecting to devices, and the port for connecting the detachable microphone. On the outer side of the left earcup are the power button on the lower end and microphone-mute toggle on the upper end. These are large, hard-to-miss buttons that are easy to use and thankfully don’t get lost in the jumble of controls on the earcup.

The detachable boom mic can twist and form to get in the right position near your mouth, and it comes with a pop filter. But the real stars of the Maxwell are the 90mm planar magnetic drivers – while bigger driver size doesn’t always mean better sound quality, this is one case in which the headset lives up to those expectations. I get into the details later on when talking about sound quality, but it’s worth mentioning here since it is the main thing that stands out on the spec sheet.

Audeze Maxwell – Software, Customization, Battery Life

I wouldn’t have necessarily called it a drawback when it first came out, but the Audeze HQ software support is quite primitive. Thankfully, it’s more simplistic rather than being bloated or convoluted. There just isn’t much to configure other than EQ settings, but among the pre-made options available (which are intended to be suited for specific scenarios), none of them sounded quite right. That is until I tweaked the first customizable preset to find the right balance within its 10-band equalization – a little boost on the low-end and high-end helped bring out the best in the Maxwell. Once I locked in this preset, it became the only EQ setting I’ve used and it’s been wonderful for every scenario, gaming or otherwise.

There are a few other options you can tweak like microphone sidetone (to get feedback of your voice), the auto-shutdown timer, and volume of the headset’s voice prompts – you can also manually change the chat mix volume in the software as well. It keeps things simple, but when you see something like Turtle Beach’s Swarm II software or SteelSeries Arctis app, I do wish I could fine-tune things a bit more to dial-in microphone performance, for example.

Audeze HQ is how you monitor battery life, which you probably won’t have to worry about often since the Maxwell is among the best in this area. It’s able to last around 80 hours from a full charge, and since using it for four days straight for roughly 10 to 12 hours a day, it still sat at about 50% charge. Gaming headsets in recent years have made strides when it comes to battery life (some of which also hit 80 to 100 hours off a full charge), and the Maxwell still stands with them, as I would expect from a headset as hefty as this.

Audeze Maxwell – Sound Quality and Performance

Sound quality is where the Audeze Maxwell shines brightest. With the aforementioned EQ settings, I found balance across all frequencies. And even at high volumes, none of them sounded grating whether I was listening to the layered J-pop tunes of Yoasobi, the chaos of a Final Fantasy XIV raid, or the gunfire of a competitive Counter-Strike 2 match while paying attention to subtle audio cues. It felt like having a home theater setup blasting into my ears with punchy bass, clean highs, and clear mids with a spacious delivery to create a rich audio profile that few headsets can match.

Those qualities also let it shine when it comes to positional/directional audio, and it’s the thing I always harp on with headsets for competitive gaming. In my handful of ranked matches in Counter-Strike 2, I was able to pluck out those specific sounds to anticipate enemy activity whether it be footsteps from a certain direction, them reloading so I can get the jump, or firefights off in the distance so I can rotate position on the map promptly. In all my recent headset reviews, I always give FFXIV a whirl and do my daily/weekly activities to test things out because it can be a very busy audio experience. The Maxwell is able to cut through the distinct sounds of spells casting, abilities going off, voice lines, and the soundtrack blaring – lesser headsets would crunch these sound effects, making them blend with each other and/or sound harsh.

Very few stand up to the Audeze Maxwell when it comes to pure sound quality.

Since the pair I have is also designed for PlayStation, it’s able to take advantage of the PS5’s Tempest 3D audio. It’s a proprietary spatial audio program and can make certain games sound like they’re being played over a home theater setup. I’m usually hesitant to use virtual surround sound options since they can sound artificial, but having used Sony’s Pulse 3D headset, Tempest 3D is a smart implementation. You get that same level of quality for surround sound out of the Audeze Maxwell – and I would hope so given how much more expensive it is, even compared to the higher-end Pulse Elite. It’s a nice bonus is you’re a PS5 owner, because single-player experiences can really come to life in a unique way – I don’t usually like describing things as “immersive” as it has lost some of its meaning when it comes to audio gear, but it does feel that way with headsets like the Maxwell.

While it’s not necessarily among the best in terms of clarity, the microphone quality itself is good. However, it stands out for its great noise isolation, which is certainly the best I’ve tested in recent years. The Maxwell has AI-based noise reduction, and with it on, the clack of my mechanical keyboard and other background noise would be blocked out. Even while talking and making noise on purpose, it’s able to focus on my voice and barely pick up anything else. The only mark against the Maxwell in this regard is that the static from sidetone is quite loud, more so than other headsets. It’s a minor gripe for an otherwise solid mic.

Be sure to check out our roundup of the best gaming keyboards!

While I prefer open-back headphones that are lighter on my head and a standalone mic for my PC setup, the Audeze Maxwell has made me think twice about switching it up. It’s what I would recommend alongside the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro – it just depends on what you’re looking for in terms of features on a headset. But on PS5, this is my main headset because of its straightforward design, long battery life, and long-term comfort on top of an audio experience that justifies its asking price. So, if you’re of the mindset of sound quality over everything else, the Maxwell is the right choice.

These Are The Best Kindle Deals Right Now (March 2025)

10 mars 2025 à 19:03

In my opinion, the Amazon Kindle is one of the best electronic devices ever. Maybe the only piece of tech I use more than my Kindle is my phone, but even then, I have the Kindle app if I decide I just want to stick some knowledge into my craw. If you're ever looking for a good deal on Kindle devices, there are quite a few that pop up even outside of the big sale events.

At the moment our favorite deal is on the Kindle Essentials Bundle, which comes with a 2024 Kindle, a matcha colored fabric cover, and a power adapter for $146.97 ($15 less than what it would cost to buy them all separately.) We've included that deal and a few more below.

The Best Kindle Deals Right Now

Kindle is one of the devices you're most likely to find on sale during Amazon events like Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday. The available Kindle lineup has expanded quite a lot over the years, too. Amazon will oftentimes sneak Kindle deals into its Deal of the Day or offer a bonus deal like free Kindle Unlimited or other Amazon services as well.

New 2024 Kindle Releases

Amazon released quite a few brand-new Kindles in October 2024. Alongside upgraded versions of the standard Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, Kindle Kids, and Kindle Paperwhite Kids, they also revealed the brand-new Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. This features a color display to make your favorite stories and comics pop. There's also a new Kindle Scribe with a redesigned display that's available now.

What Is Kindle Unlimited?

If you own a Kindle, it's absolutely worth investing in Kindle Unlimited. Right now, when you sign up, you can take advantage of a 30-day free trial before its $11.99/month price kicks in.

But you may be wondering: what is Kindle Unlimited, and is it really worth it? The answer is... absolutely, dear reader. With this, you'll get unlimited access to millions of digital titles, audiobooks, and magazine subscriptions. That way you can read all of the latest bestsellers, classics, biggest hits, and more in the realm of books and comics. What better way to get started on your Kindle adventure?

Current Kindle Bestsellers

Wondering where to start once you pick up your new Kindle? Have no fear, we're here to help with that, too. Below, we've listed out the current Kindle bestsellers so you can start up an exciting new book right away. Some of these titles can be read for free if you're a Prime member or as part of Kindle Unlimited, or they can be purchased if you'd like to own them.

Best Kindle Book Deals

If you want to see the latest and greatest Kindle book deals available, there's an excellent variety to pick through. Whether you're looking for new comics to dig into or just want to sink into a thrilling novel, there's always great book deals available for Kindle users. We've listed just a few of our favorites below, but if you want to see the full list of available deals, head to Amazon's Kindle deals page here.

Why a Kindle Is Worth the Investment

I've been rocking the Kindle since the earliest model was available, and not only do I prefer it to any other method of reading, I've found myself reading more than I would have with traditional paper books. Not that there's anything wrong with reading from a traditional book, I just personally appreciate the ease of use and form factor afforded me by the Kindle.

Since the Kindles use e-ink instead of traditional screens like your phone or iPad, they can be read in just about any lighting. In fact, the pages look like actual paper pages, so any artificial light or even bright sunlight are no factor when using the Kindle. It only uses energy when you turn the page, use the backlight or leave Wi-Fi turned on, so if you go into Airplane mode you can go weeks, even months, between charging your Kindle. Generally I go long enough to completely forget where I put my charging cable.

Get a 65" Samsung 4K OLED Smart TV for Under $1,000

10 mars 2025 à 18:50

Here's your chance to get a top notch OLED TV from Samsung at an excellent price. Right now, Amazon and Best Buy are both offering the 65" Samsung S85D 4K OLED Smart TV for just $999.99 with free delivery. This is an excellent TV to pair up with your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X since it has HDMI 2.1 inputs and supports 4K gaming at up to 120Hz.

65" Samsung S85D 4K OLED Smart TV for $999.99

The Samsung S85D is the most affordable TV in Samsung's 2024 OLED lineup. Unlike the higher-end S90D which uses a quantum dot OLED panel (and costs $500 more), the S85D uses a standard W-OLED panel. In terms of image quality, it's directly comparable to the LG B4 OLED TV (which costs $200 more). Since this is a true OLED panel, the S85D boasts near instantaneous response time, near infinite contrast ratio, and true blacks. It's superior to any other panel type for most use cases. For those of you who are concerned with burn-in, it's rarely an issue with OLED TVs; it's more of a concern with computer monitors where static screens (like your desktop) are more common.

The Samsung S85D also has the necessary features you'd want in a current-gen gaming TV, like HDMI 2.1 ports and a native 120Hz panel for running 4K at 120Hz on a PS5 or Xbox Series X. The S85D also supports variable refresh rate and auto low latency mode. This is an especially good complement to the Playstation 5 Pro console, since it has the power to run most games in true 4K resolution (vs upscaled 1440p in "Performance" mode) at 120Hz.

Right now this is the lowest price we can find for a brand new and fully warrantied 65" OLED TV, especially if you want to stick with a tried and true brand like Samsung. So far it looks like the new 2025 OLED TVs feature incremental upgrades, like a slightly faster processor or better anti-glare films. The panel technology is largely identical to 2024 models.

Hideo Kojima Fans Spot a Fun Similarity Between Death Stranding 2's Box Art and Metal Gear Solid 2

10 mars 2025 à 18:01

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach got a new trailer over the weekend, alongside a release date, collector's edition, box art, and more. And as fans have pored over the details, one has noticed a fun connection to director Hideo Kojima's past work: Metal Gear Solid 2.

The box art for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach shows Sam "Porter" Bridges, portrayed by Norman Reedus, holding the child "Lou," who players of the first game will recognize. Reddit user ReverseTheFlash posted "He did it again," showing that box art alongside a Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty slipcase with a similar motif.

The Metal Gear Solid 2 promo shows Japanese singer Gackt holding a child in a similar composition. Though it's not a one-for-one, it's certainly fun to note the similarities between the two covers. It's also a reminder of a strange branch of Metal Gear Solid (out-of-universe) backstory.

During the run-up to the game's release, Gackt was featured in multiple promos for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Part of this, it seems, included special slip-covers for the game in some territories, which have resulted in random MGS ephemera that's both intrigued and confused people over the years.

In case you're wondering why Gackt, specifically, was so involved with Metal Gear Solid 2's promotional campaign, Kojima offered an explanation in 2013. The reason he asked Gackt to "be on MGS2's TVCM is 'MGS1' was about DNA & 'MGS2' MEME. DNA consists 'AGTC', adding 'K' of KOJIMA becomes 'GACKT.' " So, there's that.

Considering Death Stranding 2's new trailer has plenty of Metal Gear vibes in it, it's no surprise fans are drawing the parallels here. Personally, I think any similarities are, at most, a sign of recurring ideas across Kojima's games. But still, it's fun to speculate and ponder, and it's always a good time to travel down memory lane with a promotional cover featuring Gackt.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launches on June 26, 2025 exclusively on PlayStation 5.

Neil Druckmann Says There’s a 'Dramatic Reason' Spores Are Back for The Last of Us Season 2

10 mars 2025 à 17:43

The Last of Us Season 2 showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have confirmed “spores are back” following their omission from Season 1.

The latest trailer for the upcoming HBO show, below, teased the introduction of spores after they were left out of Season 1. We see Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, view an infected whose breath releases the spores.

You can’t stop this.#TheLastOfUs returns April 13 on Max. pic.twitter.com/DH8UzAugIV

— Max (@StreamOnMax) March 8, 2025

Warning! Spoilers for The Last of Us Season 1 follow.

In the video games, the cordyceps infection spreads via spores, which forces the characters to wear a gas mask at points. But for Season 1 of the TV show, spores were ditched in favor of tendrils, whose menace certainly appears more horrifying and cinematic. In Season 1, we see clickers sprout terrifying tendrils that simulate the way mushrooms communicate with each other through a root-like network.

There was a practical reason for the change, which is that using spores in the show would mean big-name stars like Pedro Pascal would be forced to wear a gasmask every other scene. While this works on The Mandalorian thanks to his cool helmet, a lot of the tension would be lost in The Last of Us, and tendrils are also way more menacing, visually speaking.

“It’s disturbing and it’s violative. I think it’s very primal in the way it invades your own body,” Mazin said in an interview with Variety about the decision to swap spores for tendrils, particularly in the final scene where Tess receives what can only be described as the world’s worst goodbye kiss.

Now, speaking at SXSW 2025, Druckmann confirmed there is "an escalation of numbers and types of infected, but also, as you see in the trailer, an escalation of the vector of how this thing spreads" in The Last of Us Season 2, adding: "Season 1, we had this new thing that wasn’t in the game of these tendrils that spread, and that was one form. And then one shot you see in this trailer, there are things in the air."

Mazin later confirmed "spores are back," before Druckmann added: "The reason [we’re doing it now], I mean, we really wanted to figure it out, and again, everything has to be drama. There had to be a dramatic reason of introducing it now. And there is."

In other The Last of Us Season 2 news, actress Kaitlyn Dever discussed playing Abby, admitting she finds it hard to stop herself from looking at the reaction on the internet.

HBO's plans to extend The Last of Us Part 2 beyond a single season, unlike the critically acclaimed Season 1 which covered the entirety of the original game. Mazin has said previously that Part 2 features a lot more story to cover, so while Season 3 isn't greenlit as of yet, they've built Season 2 with a "natural breakpoint" after just seven episodes.

MAR10 Day 2025: Mario Kart Lego Set, Nintendo Music Additions, and Everything Announced

10 mars 2025 à 17:26

It’s March 10, 2025, so that means Nintendo is back with a slew of Mario Day reveals revolving around everyone’s favorite Mushroom Kingdom mascot.

As highlighted by the MAR10 hashtag floating around social media today, March 10 has served as Nintendo’s official (and clever) Mario holiday for the last few years. The appropriately named celebration always features announcements and treats for fans of the iconic plumber, and this year is no different. Although we’ve not yet seen anything quite on the level of 2024’s reveals, which included the promise that The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 will arrive next year, 2025 has already delivered some exciting Mario news.

More Mario Offerings for Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers

Just hours before MAR10 Day officially kicked off, Nintendo announced that the Super Mario Bros. 3 original soundtrack had been added to its Nintendo Music application for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. That means earworms like the World 1 Map tune Ground BGM are only a tap away, but there are even more deal sweeteners now available for Mario fans. Last Thursday, as an early surprise, Nintendo added the Game Boy releases of Mario’s Picross and Donkey to its library of Switch Online titles. It’s all available to help make MAR10 Day feel a bit more special right now.

Lego Mario Kat Set Drifts Into Stores This May

Here we go! 🏆 Launching May 15th 🏁 #LEGOSuperMario #MarioKart pic.twitter.com/NZ13sCIFHo

— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) March 10, 2025

Nintendo hasn’t been shy when it comes to adding more Lego sets based on its iconic cast of characters. While Mario has gotten plenty of love in this department in the past, the new Mario Kart build revealed as part of today’s festivities might be one of the toy line’s coolest yet. It’ll cost a whopping $170 when it drops May 15, 2025, but it also manages to pack in quite a bit of detail into the 1,972-piece kit.

Super Nintendo World Sweepstakes Offers 4-Night Stay for Lucky Fans

If you’re looking for every way you could possibly celebrate Mario Day, this new sweepstakes has you covered. As seen on the My Nintendo website, Nintendo account holders can now spend Platinum points to enter into a sweepstakes that will offer select users the chance to win a four-night stay at Universal Orlando Resort that includes access to each of its four theme parks. It’ll come with the freedom to enjoy Super Nintendo World when its Orlando location opens this May.

More Mario Day Events Across the Globe

JetBlue has partnered with Nintendo to create the Cloudtop Cruiser, a sky-blue aircraft featuring Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Bowser that will be used to transport fans. If flights aren’t your thing, you can enjoy more from Mario Day by participating in a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe community challenge that gives players until March 17 to complete 1 million in-game laps, collectively. A reward of 310 Platinum points will be gifted to those who participate in the challenge.

Meanwhile, Mario fans located in New York can visit the Nintendo store from 1pm – 4pm ET today to chat with Mario via an LED wall. Then, from 4pm – 7pm ET, the same location will offer meet-and-greet opportunities with Mario and Luigi. Those who can’t make the trek to New York may still be in luck, as starting March 15 from 12pm – 4pm. local time, select GameStop locations will allow players to demo Nintendo Switch titles such as Super Mario Party Jamboree, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and more. The GameStop events will also include Nintendo-themed giveaways.

Save Money on Select Mario Titles

Another Mario Day tradition involves respectable discounts for some of the video game plumber's most iconic titles, and 2025 is no different. On the My Nintendo Store and eShop alone are a bevy of deals for games like Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and more. You can see a list of a few of the MAR10 Day deals we spotted here.

Mario Day Is Just Getting Started

While die-hard Mario Bros. fans do what they can to celebrate Mario’s big day, others are simply taking the time to celebrate on social media. You’ll be hard pressed to make it out of today without seeing enough fan creations to stop an army of Koopa Troopas in their tracks, but we’ve gone through the trouble to include some of our favorites below.

Amazon is Selling This Power Bank For Just $9 Today, But I'm Expecting it to Sell Out Fast

10 mars 2025 à 17:24

If you’re in the market for a new power bank, the INIU 10000mAh is worth a look. Right now, it’s available on Amazon for $8.99—down from $22—when you use the 40% coupon and promo code 6XGER7UP . It’s a solid option for charging your phone, AirPods, and other small gadgets. This was a mighty deal last month and quickly sold out, so it's worth checking out if you missed out the last time.

Keep in mind that deals like this tend to disappear fast, so it might be best to act soon. This price is available only from the seller listed as Ships from Amazon, Sold by SimpleLife LLC. It also matches the Black Friday discount from last year.

I’ve been using this power bank myself, and I appreciate its reliability and value. If you need to charge multiple devices at once, you might also consider the 10ft Anker Nylon USB C 240W cable which is on sale for $11.99 today as well (down from $18.99). That's how cheap this INIU Power Bank is, getting some decent extra cables will cost you more than the portable charger itself.

How to Watch the Resident Evil Movies in Chronological Order

10 mars 2025 à 16:32

While Resident Evil may have started as a video game franchise with some of the best zombie games, Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich helped bring the series to the big screen with a film series that spanned seven movies. The films feature characters and villains from the games, but they tell their own separate stories and star Jovovich as a newcomer to Resident Evil lore. It's one of the best zombie movie franchises out there.

With a new Resident Evil movie reboot in the works, you might want to check out where the video game adaptations started off. If you want to watch all the Resident Evil movies in chronological order from the beginning, we have some very good news for you. All the films serve as sequels to their previous entries, meaning there is no difference between watching them in release order vs. chronological order.

With all that being said, here's a (mostly) spoiler-free look at how you can watch the Resident Evil movies in chronological order.

Jump to:

How Many Resident Evil Movies Are There?

There are a total of seven live-action Resident Evil movies, but only the first six are part of the original timeline. There are also four feature-length animated films —Resident Evil: Degeneration, Damnation, Vendetta, and Death Island — though we have not included those in the list below. Over the last two years, Netflix has taken a stab at Resident Evil as both a live-action and animated TV series. The live-action Resident Evil show was canceled after one season, while the animated series, Infinite Darkness, failed to make a splash.

How Long to Watch all of the Resident Evil Movies?

If you're looking to watch all 6 of the original Resident Evil movies, it will take over 9 and a half hour to finish the series. If you include Welcome to Raccoon City, that ads a an additional 107 minutes to your movie marathon.

Where Does Resident Evil: Death Island Fit on the Timeline?

The most recent film in the Resident Evil franchise is Resident Evil: Death Island - a computer animated film that released in 2023 - and you may be wondering where it fits on the timeline. Well, it's a sequel to Resident Evil: Vendetta (which took place in 2014) and is set in 2015, which places it between Resident Evil 6 (set in 2013) and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (set in 2017).

Read our review of Resident Evil: Death Island

The Resident Evil Movies in Chronological Order

1. Resident Evil (2002)

2002’s Resident Evil introduced the world to Alice (Jovovich), an original character created for the films who awakens with amnesia before remembering she is a private security operative for the Umbrella Corporation. This first film shows how the genetically engineered T-virus, which causes dead people to return as zombies, was released in a lab called The Hive. It also reveals how the lab’s AI security system, the Red Queen, killed every living thing inside the lab to try to contain the virus.

The plan didn’t work and the zombies escaped the lab. Alice and her team have to try to contain the outbreak by finding an anti-virus that is thought to still be in the Hive.

This first film included several references to the first two Resident Evil games, not the least of which was the first tease of the iconic Resident Evil 3 villain, the terrifying, rocket-wielding Nemesis.

Read our review of Resident Evil.

2. Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

Resident Evil: Apocalypse is a direct sequel to the original film and brings back Jovovich’s Alice to once again take the fight to the undead. Resident Evil director Paul W.S. Anderson did not return to direct this new film due to other commitments, but he did stay on as a producer while Alexander Witt took the helm. Apocalypse sees Alice attempting to escape Raccoon City before it is attacked by a nuclear missile that is attempting to stop the spreading T-virus plague.

Nemesis is also a big part of this second film and he’s seen terrorizing the survivors throughout it, but that is hardly the only nod to the games. There are many influences pulled into Apocalypse, including characters Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) and Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) and certain shots that were recreated for live-action, including a shootout at police department in the beginning that is reminiscent of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and a scene in a cemetery that very much harkens back to Resident Evil CODE: Veronica.

Read our review of Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

3. Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

2007’s Resident Evil: Extinction reveals that the T-virus has spread across the world. In addition to the return of Alice, the storyline also follows several attempts by the Umbrella Corporation to clone her, in hopes of replicating her powers. As the story progresses, the primary Alice and other survivors are working their way toward Alaska in an attempt to outrun the ever-expanding zombie apocalypse.

Extinction continues to bring in more aspects and characters of the games, including Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and Albert Wesker (Jason O’Mara).

Read our review of Resident Evil: Extinction.

4. Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)

Resident Evil: Afterlife is the first film after the original to see Anderson back in the director’s chair, where he stays for the rest of the series. Set one year after the events of Extinction, Alice and her clones work together to assault Umbrella Headquarters HQ and Albert Wesker. Unfortunately, all doesn’t go as planned and Alice finds herself without the powers that have assisted her so well in this zombie apocalypse.

Afterlife continues the streak of bringing in characters from the games, and this time it's Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) that gets the invitation.

Read our review of Resident Evil: Afterlife.

5. Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)

2011’s Resident Evil: Retribution picks up after the events of Afterlife. Alongside introducing such game characters as Leon S. Kennedy (Johann Urb), Ada Wong (Bingbing Li), and Barry Burton (Kevin Durand), Retribution also sees Alice teaming up with Wesker in an attempt to stop the reactivated Red Queen AI from the first film, who now controls Umbrella and wants to eliminate all life on earth.

Read our review of Resident Evil: Retribution.

6. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2017)

The aptly named Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the last feature film in the series to involve husband-and-wife team Anderson and Jovovich. It follows Alice as she returns to Raccoon City and the Hive in order to stop the Red Queen and Albert Wesker, but also reveals more of the origin of the T-virus and who is really behind all the chaos that has been building since the first film.

Read our review of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Bonus: Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)

Directed by Johannes Roberts, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is a reboot of the franchise and requires no prior knowledge of the movies. Along with the new director comes a new cast and a story that more closely follows the events of the first two Resident Evil games. Several familiar characters from the games and earlier movies return, including Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell), Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen), Albert Wesker (Tom Hopper), Leon Kennedy (Avan Jogia), Ada Wong (Lily Gao), and more. The film’s story is set in Raccoon City and tells the early days of a zombie outbreak.

Read our review of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Resident Evil Movies in Order of Release

  • Resident Evil (2002)
  • Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
  • Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)
  • Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
  • Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
  • Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016)
  • Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
  • Resident Evil: Death Island (2023)

The Future of Resident Evil Movies

Although Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City wasn't received particularly well by audiences, rumors have been swirling for years about another movie. Those rumors were finally confirmed in January, with Barbarian director Zach Cregger set to direct the newest instalment. Instead of carrying on the existing movie timeline, the currently untitled movie will reboot the Resident Evil movie franchise. Deadline reports that Sony has also set a release date for the film: September 18, 2026.

Monster Hunter Wilds Players Discover Captured Monsters Will Eventually Just Exit Stage Left

10 mars 2025 à 16:30

Most people associate Monster Hunter with actually hunting monsters, but capturing is an important piece of the pie, too. As Monster Hunter Wilds players have discovered, capturing a monster and hanging around long enough can result in a funny little interaction playing out.

As shown by Reddit user RDGtheGreat over on the r/MonsterHunter subreddit, hanging around a captured monster long enough will let you catch a little behind-the-scenes magic. Namely, the monster getting up and leaving.

After capturing a Nu Udra and waiting around, the giant cephalopod just kind of gets up and leaves. Jokes about it all feeling like a wrap on a film set were made a few times over, it's some good fun.

For actual in-universe theories as to why this is happening, well, it's not like the research team has giant cages or anything. Monster Hunter Wilds taking a more catch-and-release approach to their studies certainly seems appropriate, and fits with the general attitude of Alma and the rest throughout the story.

Whatever the lore reasons are, it's a fun little moment. I find it neat that the developers at Capcom thought this scenario through and planned a little animation, rather than just a fade out. It looks a little silly with this monster, now lacking in several limbs and other appendages, scurrying off into the distance. But it's a neat touch that possibly adds some deeper insight as to how Alma and the crew are conducting their research.

Patch 1.000.05.00 just went live for Monster Hunter Wilds, fixing some quest progression blockers and addressing bugs. Performance tunings are still on the way, as the game still sits at a 'mixed' overall rating on Steam as of this writing.

To help get your Monster Hunter Wilds adventure started, take a look at what Monster Hunter Wilds doesn’t tell you, and a guide to all 14 weapon types in the game. We’ve also got a detailed Monster Hunter Wilds walkthrough in progress, a Monster Hunter Wilds multiplayer guide to explain how to play with friends, and if you’ve played one of the open betas, here’s how to transfer your Monster Hunter Wilds Beta character over.

IGN’s Monster Hunter Wilds review returned an 8/10. We said: “Monster Hunter Wilds continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge.”

The Last of Us Season 2's Abby, Kaitlyn Dever, Says It's 'Hard Not to See Those Things on the Internet'

10 mars 2025 à 15:57

Actress Kaitlyn Dever has discussed playing Abby in The Last of Us Season 2, admitting she finds it hard to stop herself from looking at reaction on the internet.

Much toxicity surrounds the character of Abby in particular, with some choosing to voice their frustration at the fictional character's actions by harassing Naughty Dog employees including Neil Druckmann and actress Laura Bailey. This included threats and abuse targeting her, her parents, and her two-year-old son.

HBO was even wary of this reception while filming Season 2, as Dever was given extra security in case of escalated action. "There's so many strange people in this world because there are people that actually genuinely hate Abby, who is not a real person. Just a reminder: not a real person," said actress Isabel Merced, who plays Dina in Season 2.

Now, in an interview with ScreenRant, Dever was asked if she pays attention to the anticipation surrounding Abby's portrayal in the show.

“Well, it's hard not to see those things on the internet,” she responded.

“It's hard not to stop myself from looking at it every once in a while, especially going into this, for sure. And I want to do this character justice and make the fans proud by bringing her to life in this kind of way.

But my main focus was just the collaboration between Neil and Craig [Mazin], and making sure I was really getting to the core of who she is and what drives her and her emotional state; her anger and her frustration and her grief and all of that. I wanted to make sure that that was what I was focusing most of my energy on.”

Last month, Druckmann said the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us Part 2 won't feature Abby as such a muscly character as her role in Season 2 doesn't need to emulate certain video game mechanics.

Druckmann and fellow showrunner Craig Mazin told Entertainment Weekly that Dever didn't need to bulk up for the role because Abby didn't need to feel as distinct mechanically to Ellie.

"We would've struggled to find someone as good as Kaitlyn to play this role," Druckmann said. "In the game, you have to play both [Ellie and Abby] and we need them to play differently. We needed Ellie to feel smaller and kind of maneuver around, and Abby was meant to play more like Joel in that she's almost like a brute in the way she can physically manhandle certain things.

"That doesn't play as big of a role in this version of the story because there's not as much violent action moment to moment. It's more about the drama. I'm not saying there's no action here. It's just, again, different priorities and how you approach it."

Mazin chimed in too: "I personally think there is an amazing opportunity here to delve into someone who is perhaps physically more vulnerable than the Abby in the game, but whose spirit is stronger. And then the question is: 'Where does her formidable nature come from and how does it manifest?' That's something that will be explored now and later."

The now and later comment likely refers to HBO's plans to extend The Last of Us Part 2 beyond a single season, unlike the critically acclaimed Season 1 which covered the entirety of the original game. Mazin has said previously that Part 2 features a lot more story to cover, so while Season 3 isn't greenlit as of yet, they've built Season 2 with a "natural breakpoint" after just seven episodes.

Lego Reveals $170 Mario Kart Set Specifically Designed for Adult Builders

10 mars 2025 à 15:40

It's Mario's big day, and Nintendo's plumber is getting a new Lego set with quite a few pieces in the box. Lego has revealed a new Mario Kart Lego set today, March 10, with almost 2,000 pieces and an "18+" age recommendation, arriving on May 15, 2025. It's available to preorder now at the LEGO Store.

Originally spotted popping up on some store listings, Lego has officially unveiled the set, which includes both Mario and his Standard Kart from the Mario Kart series. It's a detailed model, meant for display and decor, with a special stand meant to showcase Mario and his kart at various angles.

On Lego's site, the company clocks the Mario Kart build at 1,972 pieces with a recommended "18+" Ages rating. This is due to the complexity of the build, it seems, and the intention of the product versus sets meant for play. "This building kit is part of a large assortment of LEGO Sets for Adults designed for people who enjoy hands-on creative activities to relax," Lego said in its description.

Here we go! 🏆 Launching May 15th 🏁 #LEGOSuperMario #MarioKart pic.twitter.com/NZ13sCIFHo

— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) March 10, 2025

The tenor of this build certainly seems aimed at the older, "advanced" builder of Lego. It also works with the Lego Builder app, which offers in-app building instructions and tools that let builders zoom and rotate around a 3D image of the model as they build. The final result is a posable, Lego-made Mario in his Kart.

Lego and Mario have built up a solid relationship over the years, with the collaboration resulting in numerous crossover sets. There's the Lego Super Mario line, which erred more on the side of interactive play and incorporated some game elements into its set design.

Still, some other options were aimed more at the older crowd who might like to build for relaxation and display over interactivity, like the Pirahna Plant and the Lego Super Mario World set featuring Mario and Yoshi. Some offer activities for the kids, while others offer nostalgia and complex builds for the adults.

The Lego Mario Kart build is up for pre-order now, at a price point of $169.99 / £139.99 / €169.99. The set will fully launch on May 15, 2025.

Activision Confirms Release Date for Return of Original Verdansk Map to Call of Duty: Warzone

10 mars 2025 à 14:50

Activision has confirmed the release date for the return of original Verdansk map to Call of Duty: Warzone.

Verdansk returns to the battle royale on April 3 alongside Season 3, Activision said alongside the following tease: “Get ready for the drop zones and familiar terrain that players loved, alongside new updates to explore.”

There’s even a teaser trailer, below, to whet players’ appetites.

Verdansk returns to Warzone as part of its fifth anniversary celebration. Since launching in March 2020, the free-to-download Warzone has seen more than 125 million players. Fueled by stay-at-home gaming during the pandemic, Warzone changed Call of Duty forever, and in the years since has become tied to the release of each annual premium game in the shooter series.

However, Warzone has suffered a troubling 12 months, with an ongoing backlash over cheating that Activision is struggling to get a handle on, and a perceived lack of content fueling what many in the community believe is a shrinking playerbase. The pressure is on Verdansk to breathe new life into Warzone, and Activision will be hoping a spot of nostalgia for the way the battle royale was at launch will help it along.

The April 3 release date for Season 3 of Warzone and Black Ops 6 is a little later than expected, as the countdown on the current battle pass had suggested a reset on March 20. Last week, Activision said "we’re taking the time to deliver a great experience."

Nintendo Switch 2 Filings Reveal NFC Support, Suggesting Amiibo Will Work With It

10 mars 2025 à 14:22

Nintendo Switch 2 filings have revealed Near Field Communication (NFC) support, which means Amiibo will probably work with the next-gen console.

As spotted by The Verge, Federal Communication Commission (FCC) filings confirm the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) feature is located in the Switch 2’s right Joy-Con, as with the original Switch. The question is, will Switch 2 support existing Amiibo that already unlock in-game content?

Elsewhere, the filings confirm you can charge the Switch 2 from either its bottom USB-C port or the new top one, functionality fans expected following the console’s official reveal. Switch 2 will also support Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) networks with up to 80MHz of bandwidth, up from Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) on the original Switch. There’s no mention in the filings of Wi-Fi 7 or Wi-Fi 6E, The Verge pointed out.

And finally, Switch 2 is still rated for a maximum of 15V, but the filings mention an AC adapter that goes up to 20V, leaving actual charging speed unknown.

Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. It seems the Switch 2 operates with gyro mechanics in a similar way to how phones work without screen lock. Unlike the original Nintendo Switch, which had rails for the Joy-Cons to attach and lock into place, the new controllers feature magnets that presumably allow them to be attached on either side.

While this won't make much of a difference on the hardware front, it will allow players to essentially choose where they'd like certain buttons, the headphone port, and so on. If it makes it into the final product, the flipping ability may spark interesting gameplay mechanics, too.

If the Nintendo Switch 2 will work as the patent suggests, Nintendo will likely outline the feature fully at the special Nintendo Direct event. This will take place at 6am Pacific / 9am Eastern / 2pm UK time on April 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2 likely isn't far from release either, as while Nintendo hasn't confirmed any window yet, some suggest it will be between June and September. This is because hands on events are taking place up until June and Greedfall 2 publisher Nacon said the console will be out before September.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. Most details, such as its other games and what the heck the mysterious new Joy-Con button does, were left out, though the Joy-Con mouse theory did gain a traction.

James Bond Will Reportedly Remain a Man and Still Be British or From the Commonwealth, Pierce Brosnan Insists 007 Must Not Be American, and Longlegs Director Says 'F**k Jeff Bezos'

10 mars 2025 à 13:21

The James Bond rumor mill continues following the shock news that Amazon had taken full creative control over 007, and we’re no closer to knowing who will play the famous spy in whatever’s next.

However, according to a new report, James Bond will remain a man and still be British or from the Commonwealth. The Mail on Sunday said that Amazon circulated an internal memo stipulating James Bond would not change gender or nationality under its tenure.

That’s sure to please Irish actor Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day from 1995 to 2002. Speaking to The Telegraph, Brosnan said ‘it’s a given’ that 007 should be British.

However, if an actor from the Commonwealth is possible, that leaves the door open to Australian Chris Hemsworth, who has expressed his interest in playing the character in the past. In 2019, the Thor and Extraction star told Balance magazine, after the publication pointed out his performance as British Formula One driver James Hunt made him a perfect candidate: “When we were shooting Rush someone had said that and I thought, ‘Cool, if this is my audition tape, then great.’ I don’t think you’ll ever meet anyone who doesn’t want to have a crack at James Bond. I’d love to do it.

“But that’s up to so many elements and is way beyond myself; it’s not one you can pitch yourself on to either. It’s something that the community of Bond fans, Barbara Broccoli and the whole crew there agree on, and it has to be a very organic decision from them. There have been a lot of names thrown out there and a lot of brilliant people can tackle that one.”

Hemsworth's comments have now resurfaced following the Mail on Sunday's report and word that a man from the Commonwealth could play Bond. The Today Show Australia took the speculation and declared: "It's a surety. He is in."

There is a degree of concern about the future of James Bond following Amazon’s acquisition and the stepping back of long-term 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson.

Amid speculation that Amazon may decide to go with a Bond TV series, Variety reported that a new Bond film is still the “top priority.” As for what’s next, Amazon will allegedly first look for a producer for the franchise. Apparently David Heyman, who shepherded the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films with a cohesive vision, is the kind of producer Amazon is looking for.

Christopher Nolan reportedly “expressed interest” in directing a Bond movie after Tenet, but Broccoli allegedly insisted no director would have “final cut” while she was in charge of the franchise and turned him down. Nolan went on to make Oppenheimer, which made nearly $1 billion at the global box office and won the best picture and best director (Nolan) Oscars.

Amazon’s control over Bond hasn’t gone down well with some. Longlegs and The Monkey director was asked during a recent Reddit AMA whether he’d be op-en to directing a Bond movie, and his answer was loud and clear: “No, because f**k Jeff Bezos.”

Fans are particularly keen to know who will play Bond next. While some are calling for the likes of Venom star Tom Hardy, the MCU's Idris Elba, Professor X actor James McAvoy, Magneto actor Michael Fassbender, and Kraven’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who was previously rumored to be top of the list), the clear fan-favorite is Superman and The Witcher star Henry Cavill.

According to Variety, Amazon is unable to hire anyone on Bond until the closure of its Broccoli-Wilson deal, which is expected at some point this year. The news followed an explosive report that alleged the future of the James Bond franchise was “on pause” amid what was described as an “ugly” stalemate between the Broccoli family and Amazon.

The behind-the-scenes battle between Barbara Broccoli, who had retained creative control over Bond and decided who played the iconic British spy, and Amazon, which acquired the right to release Bond movies after it bought Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in a deal worth $8.45 billion back in 2021, had left Bond “trapped,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

Amazon and Eon have yet to issue a comment.

The Complete Assassin's Creed Timeline

10 mars 2025 à 13:00

Assassin’s Creed Shadows may be the latest game in the long-running series, but its feudal Japan setting places it at the midpoint of the series’ historical timeline. That’s because Assassin’s Creed doesn’t progress chronologically; this long-running franchise hops forwards and backwards in time between each entry, exploring significant events from as far back as the Peloponnesian War in Ancient Greece, and right up to the dawn of the First World War.

With 14 games in the mainline series and counting, the timeline of these events is increasingly complex. That’s why IGN has pored over every scrap of lore to make sense of the series' centuries-spanning timeline, the overarching story, and how the games all fit together. The result is this timeline, which covers all the key events in the Assassin’s Creed timeline in chronological order.

The Isu Era
75,000 BCE

Before we can jump into the timeline, we need to cover a little bit of lore. Waaaay back when, a highly advanced civilization of god-like beings ruled the earth. Known as the Isu, they created the human race to act as their slaves. Humanity was kept under Isu control through the use of the Apples of Eden, a collection of incredibly powerful artefacts. People generally dislike being enslaved, though, and so two humans – Eve and Adam – stole an Apple of Eden and escaped the Isu, triggering something of a revolutionary war.

The war between the Isu and humanity continued for a decade, but was cut short when a solar flare hit the earth. The Isu were obliterated. The remains of humanity, meanwhile, were able to rise from the ashes and inherit the earth.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
431 to 422 BCE - Peloponnesian War

As the Peloponnesian War rages in Greece, a mercenary named Kassandra discovers The Cult of Kosmos; a shadowy organisation that has secretly been orchestrating the war. Among their number is her long-lost brother, Alexios, who was kidnapped by the Cult as a child and turned into a demigod-like human weapon. Kassandra learns that the Cult targeted Alexios because he possesses the genes of their grandfather, legendary Spartan King Leonidas, who was a direct descendant of the Isu.

Kassandra embarks on a mission to halt the Cult’s plan to dominate Greece, during which she learns that the organisation is using an Isu device that calculates possible futures to help control the war. Kassandra kills the key members of the Cult and destroys the Isu device, bringing the conflict in Greece to an end.

During her quest Kassandra is reunited with her biological father, Pythagoras, who is also a descendant of the Isu. Pythogoras gives Kassandra the Staff of Hermes, an Isu artifact that grants immortality, and asks her to become the eternal guardian of Atlantis.

Assassin’s Creed Origins
49 to 43 BCE - Ptolemaic Egypt

During the era of Cleopatra’s rule over Egypt, The Order of the Ancients – another shadowy organisation that worked in collaboration with the Cult of Kosmos – kidnaps a peacekeeper called Bayek and his son. The Order believes Bayek’s bloodline is the key to unlocking an Isu vault, but he is unable to do so. In the fight to escape his kidnappers Bayek accidentally kills his son. Devastated, he vows to take revenge on those responsible.

Bayek and his wife Aya work to dismantle The Order, which establishes control over Egypt using its puppet Pharoah, Ptolemy, and by bringing both Cleopatra and Julius Caesar into their ranks. While the couple are able to track down and kill the men who wronged them, they learn that The Order is not a local villain but in fact a globe-spanning conspiracy intent on controlling politics and religion by finding and using the Isu’s Apples of Eden. In an effort to fight against The Order’s oppression Bayek and Aya establish The Hidden Ones; a secret collective of spies and assassins that operate out of Egypt and Rome.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage
861 - Islamic Golden Age

Almost a century later The Hidden Ones have established a number of strongholds across the world, including the mountain fortress of Alamut in Iran. There Basim, a street thief from Baghdad, is trained as an assassin and tasked with investigating The Order of the Ancients’ activities in his home city. Basim discovers that The Order seeks an Isu temple buried beneath Alamut and helps the assassins fend off The Order’s invading forces. Inside the temple Basim finds a technologically advanced prison which once held Loki – an Isu now considered a god by the Norse people. Basim learns that he is a reincarnation of Loki and vows to take revenge on those who imprisoned him in his former life.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
872 to 878 - Viking Invasion of England

During the following decade Basim travels with a Viking clan to England in hunt of more members of The Order of the Ancients. There, the clan’s leader Sigurd and his sibling Eivor travel the country in search of allies to help them establish their settlement, Ravensthorpe. As the pair aid neighbouring communities they learn of the tyranny of King Alfred, a leader within The Order who wishes to overthrow the current regime and replace it with a Christian system.

After discovering an Isu artifact Sigurd begins to experience visions that convince him he is a god. Returning to Norway to investigate the hallucinations, Basim reveals that Eivor and Sigurd are reincarnations of Odin and Týr – the Isu who imprisoned Loki – and that he has been hunting them down to enact his revenge. Eivor survives the attack and traps Basim in a simulated world generated by an Isu computer shaped like the Yggdrasil tree. Traumatised by the events, Sigurd passes leadership of the clan to Eivor, who heads back to England to defeat King Afred at the Battle of Chippenham and return to Ravensthorpe as a hero.

Assassin’s Creed
1191 - Third Crusade

The next three hundred years see The Hidden Ones adapt and change, eventually becoming known as the Assassin Brotherhood by the end of the 11th century. Its foe also evolves; King Afred’s quest for a God-fearing system morphs The Order of the Ancients into the The Knights Templar. But while the cult’s structure is new, its goals are not: the Templars are still hell-bent on establishing a new world order.

During the era of the Third Crusade, the assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad works with the Brotherhood in the Holy Land to steal an Apple of Eden from the Templars. While the theft is successful, Altaïr’s arrogant tactics result in the death of fellow assassin Kadar. The Brotherhood's leader, Al Mualim, tasks Altaïr in hunting down and assassinating nine Templar leaders in order to make up for his mistake.

Altaïr completes his task, but with each Templar killed he gradually pieces together their conspiracy to use the Apple of Eden’s powers. But there’s a twist: Al Mualim had worked with and then double-crossed the Templars to secure the Apple for himself, and plans to use its powers to forcefully impose “peace” upon the world. Altaïr has no choice but to kill his former master and take control of the Brotherhood.

Assassin’s Creed 2
1476 to 1499 - Italian Renaissance

Fast forward to the Italian Renaissance and Ezio Auditore Da Firenze finds himself inducted into the Assassin Brotherhood as he seeks revenge for the death of his father and brothers (an execution arranged by, you guessed it, the Templars). Using his father’s assassin equipment and new tools developed by Leonardo Da Vinci himself, Ezio wages war against the Templar-aligned Borgia family. It’s a quest that sees Ezio take possession of an Apple of Eden, which reveals the location of a secret Isu vault beneath the Vatican. The Templars already know this secret, though, and Grand Master Rodrigo Borgia is made Pope so that he can access the Vatican’s hidden chamber. And so there’s no other option: Ezio has to challenge the literal ruler of the Catholic church to a boxing match.

Emerging victorious, Ezio uses the Apple to unseal the vault. Inside he’s confronted by a vision of the Isu Minerva, who informs the assassin of an impending doom due to befall the earth in 2012. She reveals that a network of Isu vaults hidden across the world could be the key to surviving this future disaster.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
1499 to 1507 - Italian Renaissance

Ezio may have defeated the Pope in a fistfight but he didn’t kill him, a decision that backfires when Borgia’s Papal Army besieges Ezio’s Monteriggioni villa and steals the Apple of Eden. In retaliation Ezio helps the weakened Assassin Brotherhood build up its strength and numbers, a quest that sees him become the leader of the Italian Bureau. The Assassins dismantle the Borgia regime in Rome and reclaim the Apple of Eden, which Ezio hides in an Isu vault beneath the Roman Colosseum, safe from the Templars.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations
1511 to 1512 - Ottoman Civil War

In search of more information about the mysterious Isu, Ezio travels to the former Assassin Brotherhood headquarters, Masyaf, to investigate a library built by Altaïr. Annoyingly, the Templars have already discovered the library and begun to collect the five keys required to unlock it. To halt their progress, Ezio travels to Constantinople where he allies with the Ottoman Assassins against the local Byzantine Templars. His efforts disrupt the Templars' goal to re-establish the Byzantine Empire and secure the library keys it had claimed.

Inside the Masyaf library Ezio discovers Altaïr’s remains. The former Assassin leader had locked himself inside with his own Apple of Eden in an effort to keep it out of the hands of the Templars. The Apple projects a message from Jupiter, another Isu, who reveals that important data that could aid humanity survive the apocalypse has been collected in the Grand Temple. Understanding that this knowledge is not meant for him but instead a mysterious observer, Ezio leaves the library and keeps the Apple locked inside as Altaïr had intended. He retires from his duty but shortly thereafter dies due to the injuries accumulated over his three decades working with the Brotherhood.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows
1579 - Sengoku Period

We currently know very little about the storyline of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but what we do know is that in the 16th century an African mercenary travels with a Catholic Jesuit missionary to Japan. There he meets Oda Nobunaga, a powerful lord in the process of politically unifying the country’s warring clans. Nobunaga makes the African man one of his samurai. Taking the name Yasuke, the African man helps invade the Iga province in 1581 as part of Nobunaga’s campaign. Iga is home to Naoe, the daughter of shinobi master Fujibayashi Nagato. Despite coming from opposing sides of the conflict, Yasuke and Naoe eventually unite in pursuit of a shared goal.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag
1715 to 1722 - Golden Age of Piracy

During the Golden Age of Piracy, scoundrel Edward Kenway finds himself caught up in a new Templar conspiracy after killing an Assassin and taking their place. He attends a secret meeting where he learns that the Templars have arrived in the Caribbean in search of The Observatory, an Isu machine capable of spying on any human. With it they hope to blackmail world leaders. However, only the ‘Sage’ can unlock the Observatory; a human reincarnation of the Isu Aita. The Templars seek the current reincarnation of Aita, a pirate named Bartholomew Roberts.

Seeing an opportunity to use The Observatory for profit, Edward embarks on a quest to find Roberts and disrupt the Templars. He allies with a group of pirates and helps establish an independent pirate republic before finally uniting with Roberts. The pair unlock The Observatory but disagree on what to do with it. Edward is soon betrayed by Roberts, who takes the skull-shaped artifact powering the device and locks Edward inside. Proving savvy enough to escape, Edward soon tracks down Roberts to retrieve the stolen skull and take his bloody revenge. He then returns to The Observatory, where he assassinates Templar leader Laureano de Torres y Ayala and seals the skull away, deciding the safety of the world is more important than his personal quest for riches. His war against the Templars concluded, Edward returns to his home in England where he lives out his days with his daughter, Jennifer, and son, Haytham.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue
1752 to 1776 - French and Indian War

Shay Patrick Cormac is sent by the Assassin Brotherhood to retrieve an Isu artifact from a temple in Lisbon. Shay’s disturbing of the temple causes an earthquake that almost completely destroys the city. Struck down with guilt, Shay decides to leave the Brotherhood and steal their map of Isu temples. The Assassins attempt to kill Shay for his betrayal, but he is rescued by Templars who take him to New York.

Over a number of years Shay gradually climbs the ranks of the Templar Order, killing a number of prominent Assassins as he does. His work puts him on the trail of his former master, Achilles, whom he tracks to the Arctic in hope of halting the Brotherhood’s search for more Isu temples. There, he and fellow Templar Haytham Kenway – yes, son of Edward Kenway! – injure Achilles but stop short of killing him, leaving him alive to ensure he prevents the Assassins from unearthing any more Isu temples.

In 1776, on a trip to Versailles to eliminate an Assassin, Shay suggests that the Templars start a revolution in France in response to a recent uprising sparked by the Assassins in America.

Assassin’s Creed 3
1754 to 1783 - American Revolution

The Templars set their sights on unlocking the Isu’s Grand Temple. Haytham Kenway murders a man in London to obtain the key, and then travels to the Mohawk-guarded site of the Temple in the American Colonies. Haytham fails to work out how to unlock the Temple, but finds himself falling in love with a Mohawk woman named Kaniehti:io. Together they have a child, Ratonhnhaké:ton, but Haytham eventually abandons his new family.

Years later, the Mohawk settlement is burned to the ground and Kaniehti:io is killed. Seeking revenge, Ratonhnhaké:ton renames himself Connor Kenway and trains with a reluctant Achilles to become an Assassin. Against the backdrop of the American Revolution, Connor eliminates the Templars hidden within the British forces. His quest eventually reunites him with Haytham, with whom he hopes to work with to establish some kind of peace. However, Haytham believes it’s vital that the Templars control the nation, and the pair’s conflicting ideals end in a son killing his father. Connor takes the Isu Grand Temple key and buries it, denying the Templars their end goal.

Assassin’s Creed Liberation
1765 to 1777 - Spanish Occupation of Louisiana

Occuring in parallel to Connor’s journey, New Orleans-based assassin Aveline de Grandpré learns of a Templar plot to control Louisiana. Following the trail, Aveline learns that the plot is part of a much larger conspiracy organised by the ‘Company Man’, who is using slaves to unearth an Isu temple. On her crusade to disrupt the Templars and free the slaves, Aveline collects three components that link together to form a Isu device called a ‘Prophecy Disk’.

Aveline eventually discovers that the Company Man is her own stepmother, who has been grooming her with the intent of inducting her into the Templars. Aveline kills her stepmother and then activates the Prophecy Disk, which tells the story of Eve; the leader of the human rebellion against the Isu.

Assassin’s Creed Unity
1789 to 1794 - French Revolution

Arno Dorian is orphaned as a child when Shay Cormac murders his father in Versailles. He’s taken in by François de la Serre, the Grand Master of the French Templars, and grows up alongside his new sister, Élise. As an adult, Arno is framed for the murder of de la Serre and imprisoned in the Bastille. There he meets a member of the Assassin Brotherhood who offers to help Arno track down his adoptive father’s killer.

The Brotherhood’s investigation uncovers a rift within the Templars led by the extremist François-Thomas Germain – the man behind de la Serre’s murder. Germain plots to revolt against France’s monarchy and ignite revolution. As Paris falls into chaos, Arno and Élise work together to track down Germain. They pursue him to an underground Templar crypt where he attempts to use a Sword of Eden, a powerful Isu weapon, to kill Arno. However, the sword unexpectedly explodes, killing Élise and wounding Germain. In his final moments the Templar reveals that he is the current Sage. Arno later seals Germain’s remains in the Paris Catacombs, ensuring they stay out of reach of the Templars.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
1868 - Victorian England

In 1868, twin assassins Jacob and Evie Frye arrive in London in search of The Shroud, another Isu device. They soon discover that the Templars have seized complete control over the city through use of industry figures, political leaders, and organised crime. The twins split up to complete parallel goals: Jacob focuses on assassinating the Templars’ leadership, while Evie attempts to beat the Templars in the race to find The Shroud.

While all of his lieutenants are killed during Jacob’s bloody spree, Templar leader Crawford Starrick still manages to learn that The Shroud is being held in a vault beneath Buckingham Palace. He steals the device, but his plans to kill Britain’s leaders are halted when Jacob and Evie assassinate him. The twins return The Shroud to the vault, netting another victory for the Assassin Brotherhood.

In the following years, Jacob is made head of the London Assassins and Evie manages to track down and assassinate grisly serial killer Jack the Ripper. The pair later move to the countryside, where Evie raises her daughter, Lydia, as an Assassin. During the First World War, Lydia is tasked by Winston Churchill to investigate a German spy facility in London, which just so happens to be staffed by Templars. Lydia’s mission concludes when she kills the espionage network’s leader, who is revealed to be the latest Isu Sage.

Transition Period
1914 to 2012

While the majority of each Assassin’s Creed game is set during a historical time period, the series as a whole uses a framing story set during the modern era. During the transition period between Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Victorian era and the start of the modern storyline, the Templars create Abstergo Industries. A pharmaceutical company established in 1937, Abstergo is part of the Templars efforts to control the world through capitalism. In the late 1970s, Abstergo begins development of the Animus: a virtual reality machine capable of exploring the memories of a person’s ancestors. By exploring the past, Abstergo hopes to control the future.

Assassin’s Creed 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, and 3
2012

In 2012, bartender Desmond Miles is abducted by Abstergo Industries and forced to use the Animus. Abstergo intends to use Desmond, who is descended from Altaïr, to locate the Apples of Eden and other Isu artefacts. Thankfully for Desmond there’s an Assassin Brotherhood mole working at Abstergo, Lucy Stillman, and she helps him escape from the facility.

Desmond is brought to a Brotherhood safehouse where he works with Lucy and her teammates, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane, to explore the memories of another one of his ancestors: Ezio. Desmond learns of the impending apocalypse via Ezio’s encounter with Minerva beneath the Vatican, kickstarting the Assassins’ quest to prevent the end of the world.

By exploring more of Ezio’s memories, Desmond is able to find the Apple of Eden that was hidden beneath the Roman Colosseum. Unfortunately, the Apple projects a vision of Juno, a villainous Isu who possesses Desmond and forces him to kill Lucy. The traumatic ordeal puts Desmond into a coma, but he’s still able to explore Ezio’s final memories despite such a medical emergency. Through them he observes Ezio’s discovery of Altaïr’s library and Jupiter’s message revealing the existence of the Grand Temple.

Awakening from his coma, Desmond travels with Shaun and Rebecca to the Isu Grand Temple in New York where they meet with William Miles, Desmond’s father and the leader of the modern Assassin Brotherhood. By reliving the memories of Connor Kenway, Desmond is able to locate the key to the Temple. Inside, the group discover that the Isu technology can prevent the apocalypse but at the cost of killing Desmond and unleashing the imprisoned Juno, who plans to control humanity. Desmond decides to sacrifice himself, believing humanity will be able to defeat Juno.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag
2013

Abstergo uses samples taken from Desmond’s body to continue their hunt for Isu technology via his ancestor’s memories. In hopes of discovering the location of The Observatory, Abstergo assigns “The Noob”, an unnamed researcher, to explore the memories of Edward Kenway.

During their assignment The Noob is tasked by the company’s head of IT, John Standish, to hack Abstergo’s computers in hunt of information on the Assassins. Standish is eventually revealed to be the modern-day Sage, and he intends to use The Noob as a host for Juno. However, it turns out that Juno is not yet ready to emerge into the world, and so Standish attempts to murder The Noob to keep her existence secret. Unfortunately for him, he’s killed by Abstergo security, who believe him responsible for the hacks.

Assassin’s Creed Unity
2014

In a bold attempt to track down the remains of former Sages, Abstergo releases “Helix” to the public; a video game-like software that allows players to experience genetic memories. Guided by an Assassin called Bishop, an unnamed initiate relives the life of Arno Dorian in search of the remains of François-Thomas Germain, a Sage from the 1700s. Learning that Arno sealed Germain’s bones away in the Paris Catacombs, Bishop believes the Sage’s remains are safe from Abstergo’s grasp.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
2015

The following year, the initiate is tasked with finding The Shroud, an Isu device hidden in London. By exploring the memories of Jacob and Evie Frye the initiate learns that The Shroud is hidden beneath Buckingham Palace. Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane are sent to retrieve it but Abstergo beats them to it. By hacking a senior Templar’s computer, the Assassins learn that Abstergo intends to use The Shroud to create a living Isu. It is revealed that Juno also has her eyes on The Shroud, and has been manipulating Abstergo employees in an attempt to sabotage the Templar’s plans.

Assassin’s Creed Origins
2017

Layla Hassan, a researcher for Abstergo, has ambitions of joining the company’s Animus Project. In an attempt to prove her talent she develops a new version of the Animus capable of exploring memories via a DNA sample, completely skipping the need to find a biological descendant. On a trip to Egypt she discovers the mummified remains of Bayek and Aya and uses their DNA to relive the origins of The Hidden Ones. Layla is then contacted by William Miles, who offers her a position in the Assassin Brotherhood.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
2018

Using DNA samples recovered from the Spear of Leonidas, Layla is able to relive the memories of Kassandra and discover the location of Atlantis. In the mythical city she comes face to face with the Greek mercenary, kept alive for centuries thanks to the Staff of Hermes. Kassandra explains that the world needs balance between the Templars and Assassins to prevent disaster, and reveals that Layla is prophesied to bring that balance. As her final act, Kassandra gifts Laya the Staff of Hermes. Relieved of her duty to guard Atlantis, she dies in Layla’s arms.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
2020

After observing fluctuations in the Earth’s magnetic field, Layla and the Assassins recover Viking remains in New England and use them to explore the memories of Eivor. Through them Layla discovers the existence of the Yggdrasil computer which is located in an Isu temple in Norway. Simultaneously, the Assassins learn that the magnetic field disturbances are a result of the apocalypse-preventing Isu technology that Desmond Miles activated in 2012.

Laya travels to the Norway temple and uses Yggdrasil to enter its simulation, hoping to find a way to stabilise the magnetic field. Inside she meets Basim, trapped there by Eivor, and a figure called “The Reader”, a manifestation of Desmond’s mind. Abandoning her mortal form, Layla works with The Reader to prevent future apocalypses. Basim, meanwhile, escapes the simulation and claims the Staff of Hermes, which is revealed to contain the consciousness of Loki’s lover, Aletheia. He then joins the Assassin Brotherhood and uses their Animus to begin his quest to track down Loki’s children.

Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 Requires a Microsoft Account, as Other Xbox Games on Sony’s Consoles Do

10 mars 2025 à 12:14

Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5 requires a Microsoft account, the company has confirmed.

Confirmation comes from a FAQ posted to the Forza support website: “Yes, in addition to a PSN account you’ll need to link to a Microsoft account in order to play Forza Horizon 5 on PS5. This process begins the first time you start up the game on your console.”

This policy is in keeping with other Xbox games released on Sony’s console, including Minecraft, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves.

However, it has caused a degree of controversy among some. Does it play?, which works to “ensure games and hardware remain accessible now and always,” tweeted to say the news “basically kills preservation for the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5.”

That statement taps into a concern that Forza Horizon 5 may become unplayable even to those who bought it if at some point in the future Microsoft discontinues its account linking process without updating the game to be playable without a Microsoft account. There’s also concern that Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 will become unplayable if a player loses access to their linked Microsoft account for whatever reason. Adding to this concern is the fact Microsoft will release Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 digitally, and has no plans for a physical disc version.

Sony came under fire for forcing PC players of Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 to link a PSN account in order to play, but that decision was reversed after a backlash online. In January, Sony announced gamers would no longer require players to link a PSN account to enjoy some of its PC games, but offered bonuses to those who did.

The reaction to the Forza Horizon 5 Microsoft account news among the PS5 community has been mixed, with most players left wondering if the game has cross-progression given the forced Microsoft account link.

Unfortunately, according to the FAQ, Forza Horizon 5 for PS5 does not carry over save files from Xbox or PC. Microsoft pointed out that this is also the same behavior between the Xbox and Steam versions of the game, where game files are separate and not synchronized.

You can publish UGC on one platform and download it to play on another, however you won't be able to edit it unless you're playing on the save profile it was originally created on. Some online statistics, such as your leaderboard scores, are synchronized if you log into the game using the same Microsoft account, the company added.

Forza Horizon 5 is the latest Xbox game to launch on a rival console as part of Microsoft’s big multiplatform push. Expect plenty more where that came from in the months ahead.

Monster Hunter Wilds Patch 1.000.05.00 Fixes Quest Blockers, Among Other Things — but There Are No Performance Improvements Yet

10 mars 2025 à 10:51

Capcom has released Monster Hunter Wilds hotfix 1.000.05.00 across all platforms, making important improvements and fixes for the game.

The patch removes various progression blockers and fixes various bugs, but players won’t find any performance improvements in the patch notes, below.

Monster Hunter Wilds is still sitting on a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Steam despite its record-breaking launch, and most of the complaints revolve around performance problems on PC.

Despite these issues, Monster Hunter Wilds’ success cannot be denied. It sold a huge 8 million copies in just three days, becoming the fastest-selling Capcom game of all time. Monster Hunter Wilds has the fifth highest ever concurrent player count on Steam, with a whopping 1,384,608 peak. That’s more than Dota 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Elden Ring managed on Valve’s platform. By comparison, Monster Hunter: World had a peak of 334,684.

A title update for Monster Hunter Wilds, expected in early April, is due to add a new endgame area to gather as well as more monster hunting action for players to embark on.

Monster Hunter Wilds Hotfix 1.000.05.00 patch notes:

Issues that have been addressed as of March 10, 2025:

  • The “Grill a Meal” and “Ingredient Center” features cannot be unlocked even after meeting the progress criteria.
  • When heading to Azuz during Main Mission: Chapter 2-1 “Toward Fervent Fields,” players keep falling through the map.
  • The Monster Field Guide cannot be accessed.
  • During Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 “A World Turned Upside Down,” an NPC may not appear, preventing further progression.
  • At the Smithy, an issue may occur where tutorials are repeatedly shown, disabling certain options in the menu.
  • When guarding a monster’s attack with a lance using Power Guard under certain conditions, the weapon flashes in red but the effect is not activated
  • When using a mantle, a Weapon Equipment Skill may mistakenly be activated.
  • Some effects may be displayed continuously when using certain skills, such as Peak Performance and Self-Improvement.
  • When successfully preforming an Offset Attack with the Insect Glaive’s Descending Slash under certain conditions, the hunter freezes and becomes unresponsive to any controls.
  • Addressed issues that occurred under certain conditions with screen rendering and causing force quits.
  • The Meal Invitation feature at Azuz and Sild does not unlock on some occasions.
  • A notification or an Environment Overview Update may show that you have received a Meal Invitation when it is not available. (Some mitigation measures have been implemented.)
  • An issue occurring when using Equipment Loadout, causing decorations to be removed from equipment, Bowgun Customization being reverted to default, and Kinsects reverting to the initial rarity.
  • When cutting off monster parts, the parts change into a monster part from a different monster.
  • Gravios does not gain resistance to flinches after breaking its parts. (Gravios’s resistance has also been slightly adjusted in Ver. 1.000.05.00.)
  • An issue which may cause crashes or some monsters to act strangely under certain situations.
  • Some skills are unintentionally activated under certain conditions.
  • Some items/rewards can be obtained repeatedly under certain conditions.
  • When trying to catch a fish with a capture net, the fishes nearby do not swim away from the fishing spot.
  • Some environmental features such as floating rubbles can be activated multiple times.
  • During Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 “The Root Cause,” the hunter becomes unresponsive to some controls when talking to a certain NPC.
  • Palico’s support move “Attract Vigorwasps” may cause the hunter to become unresponsive to some controls.
  • When scrolling through the quest list, only the first 20 quests are displayed correctly.
  • An issue which may cause the game to forcefully shut down when starting a game with saved data that encountered a force quit.

*You must close the game to apply the fix. Please ensure you restart the game after updating your game to Ver. 1.000.05.00. (This can be confirmed at the title screen.)

Meanwhile, Capcom outlined various issues it's still working to address.

Some currently known Monster Hunter Wilds issues as of March 10, 2025:

  • A network error occurs when firing an SOS flare right after a quest begins.
  • Link Members are not prioritized over other players and may not appear in some places including Base Camps.
  • Palico’s attacks with blunt weapons do not inflict stun and exhaust damages.
  • Hunter Profile cannot be edited properly on some occasions.
  • Some side missions cannot be completed under certain situations.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PS5 Rating Spotted, Suggesting Release Date Isn’t Far Off

10 mars 2025 à 10:30

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has a PlayStation 5 rating on the website of the Entertainment Software Rating Board, suggesting a release date isn’t too far away.

MachineGames’ well-received action adventure game launched on Xbox Series X and S and PC in December 2024, and currently has a spring 2025 release window on PS5. That suggests the game will be out at some point in the next few months.

Microsoft has so far remained quiet on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s PS5 release date, preferring to focus on other games at its recent Xbox Developer Direct showcase. But it seems an announcement will be made soon.

MachineGames has issued a series of updates since the game’s initial Xbox launch, most recently fixing various bugs and adding support for Nvidia DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and DLSS Ray Reconstruction on PC. The PS5 version will of course feature all the console updates released to date.

Boosted by launching day one on Game Pass, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has so far reached 4 million players — a figure that will no doubt see a significant boost one the PS5 version goes live.

Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford has said Troy Baker playing the beloved character in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is proof "you don't need artificial intelligence to steal my soul."

Ford discussed alleviating control of Indy with The Wall Street Journal, saying he was very happy with the performance of The Last of Us actor Baker.

"You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul," Ford said. "You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent. He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it."

AU Deals: Two Star Level Super Mario Discounts, Monster Hunter Wilds Gets Price Carved, and More!

10 mars 2025 à 01:20

Are you on the hunt for unbeatable gaming deals? Well, equip a wallet to your main hand and empty your inventory, because this week’s discounts are overloaded with gems. I’ve taken all the grind out of bargain fetch-questing by collecting the standouts of the day. Get scrolling to get saving!

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I’m celebrating the 30th birthday of Star Wars: Dark Forces, an FPS ahead of its time. In an age of Doom, endless corridors, and fairly mindless stage-based bloodshed, this bad boy held me in thrall with its multi-level maps and “mouselook” aiming. It also had the cracking, lore-expanding tale of Kyle Katarn, a gruff ex-Imp who took on daring mission-based objectives with his amazing (at the time) ability to jump, crouch, and more!

Sadly, Katarn’s opening level antics of securing the Death Star plans got erased/retconned into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But hey—this game still retains the honour of introducing the fearsome Dark Troopers, an elite Imperial battle droid squadron that reappeared in The Mandalorian. One last core memory of this for me: our hero doing the Howie Scream whenever I pinged him off a cliff.

Epic Death Stranding 2 Trailer Reveals Release Date, New Gameplay, and Some Serious Metal Gear Vibes

9 mars 2025 à 22:20

Hideo Kojima took to the stage at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX this evening to reveal an epic new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, as well as confirm a release date.

Death Stranding 2 launches on June 26, 2025 exclusively on PlayStation 5. However, those who buy the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Collector’s Edition get two days of early access from June 24.

The 10-minute long video, below, includes various cinematics, gameplay clips, and, perhaps most notably, a close look at a character who many are already saying looks a lot like Snake from Kojima's world famous Metal Gear franchise.

The character, Neil, played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli, is seen putting on a bandanna, as Snake does, before leading a team of creepy looking soldiers. The similarity to Solid Snake is remarkable.

Perhaps Marinelli's Snake-like role in Death Stranding 2 shouldn't come as much of a surprise. In a 2020 Instagram post, Kojima heaped praise on the actor, saying that if he wore a bandanna he'd be a "spitting image" of Solid Snake.

"There are many actors that I follow," Kojima said at the time. "Luca Marinelli recently caught my eye after watching The Old Guard and Martin Eden. He played an impressive villain in They Call Me Jeeg Robot, but I think that he will break out soon, and his popularity will increase. Also, I think if he donned a bandanna, he’d be a spitting image of Solid Snake!"

The trailer continues the Metal Gear vibes with the Magellan Man, a huge tar-like creature fused with the DHV Magellan that looks a bit like Metal Gear Rex (a 15" statue of the Magellan Man is included in the Collector's Edition). The Magellan Man appears to be operated like a Pacific Rim-style mech, and faces off against enormous and very creepy tar monsters.

The standard edition of Death Stranding 2 costs $69.99, as expected. The Collector's Edition, meanwhile, costs $229.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99. Pre-orders begin on March 17.

Continuing the story of Death Stranding, which has had over 19 million players worldwide since its release on November 8, 2019, Death Stranding 2 carries the tagline, 'Should We Have connected?' Here's the official blurb:

Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam — with companions by his side — sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.

Meanwhile, Kojima announced the Death Stranding global concert tour, dubbed The Strands of Harmony World Tour. Set for 19 cities across the globe, the concerts will feature an orchestra and singers performing selections from Ludvig Forssell's critically acclaimed scores alongside music from other artists featured in the games. Synchronised HD video projections will accompany the performances, showing moments from both Death Stranding and its sequel. The premiere is on November 8, 2025, the sixth anniversary of Death Stranding's release, at the Sydney Opera House.

It's a hugely busy time for Kojima and his studio, Kojima Productions. As well as Death Stranding 2, Kojima is working on a live-action Death Stranding film with A24, the studio behind Academy Award winning films such as Everything Everywhere All At Once. He's also working on OD for Xbox Game Studios, and video game and movie hybrid Physint for Sony.

There are no release dates for OD or Physint. Indeed, in January, Kojima revealed the ongoing video game actors strike had affected production on both titles, so it may be some time before we hear or see more.

The Best Streaming Deals: Free Trials, Discounts, and Bundles in 2025

9 mars 2025 à 16:30

Streaming has made entertainment more accessible than ever, but that doesn't mean it's cheap. Most streaming services have continuously hiked their own prices and limited password sharing, and confusing licensing deals sometimes make it surprisingly difficult to find an entire franchise in the same spot.

Nowadays it's common to debate, as I'm doing constantly, which subscriptions are worth keeping for the long haul. Plenty of streaming services – particularly the newer ones – offer free trials, bundles, and discounts to try and attract new subscribers. "New subscriber," of course, meaning "different e-mail address."

The best time to save on subscriptions is undoubtedbly Black Friday, when most streaming services offer their biggest discounts of the year. But if you're trying to find savings like right now, these are some of the best streaming deals available.

Here Are the Best Streaming Deals Right Now:

Limited Time Streaming Deal: Disney+ and Hulu for $2.99/month

Disney+ and Hulu just announced they're bringing back a limited time discount on their joint ad-supported bundle. Until March 30, you can sign up for the Basic Disney+ with Hulu plan at $2.99/month for the first four months. This is a 72% discount from the standard price of $10.99/month.

Best Streaming Bundle: Disney+, Hulu, and Max

Home to the MCU, Star Wars, Pixar, and every niche Disney Channel show you could have watched as a kid, Disney+ is one of the only streaming services to offer actual deals, though a free trial isn't one of them. Instead, Disney+ is all about the bundles, which are the most consistent opportunities for savings. The Disney+ bundle with Hulu and Max is one of the best on the market, offering over $300 in savings a year for the ad-free plan. Sports fans should consider the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN bundle as well.

Otherwise, Disney+ with ads is $9.99, versus $15.99 for the ad-free plan, and Disney+ also allows adding "Extra Members" to an existing plan at discounted prices.

Other Max Bundles and Deals

Right now, DoorDash's Dash Pass Annual memberships include an ad-supported Max subscription, which can be upgraded to the ad-free version for $10.99/month, compared to the $16.99/month standard price. Students can sign up for Max at a 50% discount. Bundle-wise, on top of the Disney+ and Hulu option, Max can also be bundled with Starz for $20.99/month through Prime Video.

Hulu Free Trials and Discounts

Hulu does offer a 7-day free trial for the standalone service. Students can sign up for Hulu at a 75% discount with the ads plan costing just $1.99/month, and they can also pair the Hulu benefit with Spotify Premium, getting both for $5.99/month. Eligible U.S. service members, veterans, and their dependents can also save 25% on Hulu with ads. Outside of these discounts, the best Hulu deal is still the bundle with Disney+ and Max.

Best Paramount+ Deal: Save With Walmart+

Starting at $7.99/month, the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential plan is one of the cheaper subscriptions on the market. Showtime isn’t available as a standalone subscription, so if you’re interested in watching, say, the new season of Yellowjackets, you’ll have to check out the Paramount+ with Showtime bundle, which starts at $12.99/month.

In terms of deals, Walmart+ memberships, which cost $12.95/month, include a Paramount+ subscription, though upgrades to the Showtime bundle cost an additional $5.49/month. Walmart+ memberships also offer a 30-day free trial.

Best Peacock Deal: Bundle With InstaCart+

NBC Universal's Peacock appeared on the scene back in 2020, but didn't really start to get any traction until the service reclaimed NBC-owned shows like The Office from Netflix. Peacock is also where you'll find Nickelodeon shows, Universal movies (most recently The Wild Robot), and plenty of live sports coverage.

Peacock itself doesn’t offer a free trial, but there are a couple of ways to get access to the service. Instacart+ subscriptions, which offer $0 delivery fees and additional InstaCart perks, are $9.99/month and include Peacock Premium.

Like Hulu, Peacock offers a 75% discount for students. The NBC-owned service also offers lesser-known discounts for first responders and medical professionals, as well as teachers. To be eligible for these discounts, you’ll have to verify your identity and occupation.

AppleTV+ Deals and Free Trials

AppleTV offers more random deals throughout the year than most streaming services, usually to support its own releases. For example, AppleTV+ was entirely free to watch for the first weekend of 2025, primarily as the service was marketing the new season of Severance. AppleTV+ doesn’t currently have any special offers, but we’ll be sure to update this next time they do.

AppleTV+ also offers a 7-day free trial to new subscribers. If you’re subscribed or have considered other Apple subscriptions, signing up for Apple One extends that free trial to 30 days. As a hub for Apple subscriptions, Apple One also includes AppleTV+ in its $19.95 monthly cost. Otherwise, for students, the Apple Music Student Plan includes an AppleTV+ subscription.

Other Ways to Get AppleTV+

Apple being Apple, one of the “most popular” ways to access AppleTV+ is by picking up an Apple device. A 3-month Apple TV+ trial comes with new iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, and Macs. AppleTV+ subscriptions are also included in T-Mobile’s G50G plan, Sprint's Max plan, and Xfinity's StreamSaver bundle.

Best Anime Streaming Deal: Crunchyroll Free Trials

As the ultimate streaming service for anime, Crunchyroll is where you'll find every episode of One Piece, the new Dragon Ball series, and pretty much any other anime you can think of.

As a starting point, Crunchyroll is one of the few services that still offers a free plan, albeit with limited viewing options. If you’re looking for the full experience, Crunchyroll offers a 7-day free trial for its Mega Fan subscription, which includes ad-free access to the service’s entire streaming library, free shipping on orders from the Crunchyroll store, and offline viewing.

Other Ways to Get Crunchyroll

While Crunchyroll itself offers a 7-day trial, the streamer has partnered with Best Buy to offer extended Crunchyroll trials on select purchases. For example, I got two months of Crunchyroll's Mega Fan streaming plan for free when I bought a ROG Ally X. A 30-day Crunchyroll trial is also included in My Best Buy memberships.

Prime Video Discounts

With a growing library of original shows like Reacher and Invincible, Prime Video is included in an Amazon Prime membership, which students and young adults can get at a 50% discount. Otherwise, you can sign up for Amazon’s 30-day free trial and you’ll have access to Prime Video. Amazon also currently offers a 50% discount on Prime for eligible recipients of EBT and other government assistance programs.

Other Deals on Prime Video

Besides being a streaming service, Prime Video is also a digital marketplace, with plenty of movies and shows outside of Amazon’s empire available to rent or buy. If you’re trying to avoid another streaming subscription, or can’t find a specific niche movie, sometimes it’s worth flipping through the Prime Video deals.

Streaming Deals FAQ

Does Netflix ever have deals?

You might have noticed one major streaming service missing from this list, and that’s for a reason. Netflix has never really offered deals; the streamer doesn't even offer a discounted "annual plan." One of the only ways to get around those prices is through phone and internet plans, as Netflix with ads plans are available through T-Mobile, Verizon, and Xfinity.

What’s the best streaming bundle right now?

The best streaming bundle depends on what services you already have and which ones you’ve been looking to join. For example, if you’re already paying for Paramount+, the "cheapest" streaming bundle would technically be adding a Showtime subscription.

That said, if you’re starting from scratch, I highly recommend one of the newest bundles that includes Disney+, Hulu, and Max. I pay for this bundle and pretty much nothing else, and between all three libraries, I can always find something good to watch. You can also check out our full list of streaming bundles for a full breakdown of what’s available.

Where can I find promo codes for streaming services?

Outside of specific deals, plenty of streaming services accept promo codes for particular events, sales, and from other vendor partners. These change frequently, but some regularly updated lists of streaming service promo codes can be found on Retailmenot and Coupons.com.

When do streaming services offer deals?

Streaming service deals can be a bit irregular, but there are some things to look out for. Streaming services may offer disounts or extended trials ahead of new exclusive releases, like the AppleTV+ deal ahead of Severance Season 2. Summer specials, holiday deals, and big TV events like the Super Bowl are also common times for new deals.

The best time to check for streaming deals is undoubtedly Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Last year’s Cyber Monday streaming deals were some of the best I’ve ever seen, including Hulu for less than $1/month and Paramount+ with Showtime for $2.99/month.

What phone and internet plans include streaming deals?

One of the best ways to save on streaming is to look for phone and internet plans that include specific services. T-Mobile offers plans that include Netflix with ads, Hulu with ads, and AppleTV+. Verizon offers plans that include the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN bundle as well as plans that come with Max and ad-supported Netflix. On the internet side, you can get Peacock, AppleTV+, and Netflix through Xfinity's StreamSaver bundle.

UK Deals: I'm Catching Discounted Pokémon TCG Stellar Crown and Paldea Evolved Blisters Today

9 mars 2025 à 12:26

As of March 9, Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet Stellar Crown and Paldea Evolved three-pack blisters are still floating below retail at Amazon for around £12 each. That’s not going to last. Everyone’s too busy chasing Prismatic Evolutions, Surging Sparks, and the upcoming Journey Together sets, which means these two are slipping under the radar.

The Pokémon Company is already shifting print focus to newer releases, so picking up packs below RRP will soon be a thing of the past. If you’re looking to grab some of the best Illustration Rares and competitive Trainer cards in the game below retail price, this is the best time to start collecting.

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Stellar Crown 3-Pack Blister - Latias

Stellar Crown is criminally overlooked. With Terapagos ex as the face of the set you’d think it would be getting more love. For now it’s still under the Pokéradar, but that won’t last. The Special Illustration Rare Terapagos ex is already pushing £75, and it’s only going up.

I’d love to pull Illustration Rare Squirtle or Bulbasaur, both of which are well over £60 now. They match the Obsidian Flames Charmander promo, which I was smart enough to grab with the Pokémon Center stamp early. Now I just need the other two to complete the trio. If you think Charmander is the best of the three, you’re wrong, but I respect your opinion.

Stellar Crown also has some seriously good competitive cards. Galvantula ex and Hydrapple ex are creeping up in value, and Galvantula’s Special Illustration Rare is already over £25. If players figure out a way to consistently pull off its Item lock strategy, we could see that price spike even higher.

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Paldea Evolved Triple Pack (Tinkatink)

I’ve been stacking Paldea Evolved singles for months, and I still don’t have the Magikarp. You’d think a card featuring one of the most useless Pokémon of all time wouldn’t cost over £200, yet here we are. The Shinji Kanda artwork turned it into one of the most desirable cards of the entire Scarlet & Violet era. If you’ve got one sitting in a binder, you’re sitting on gold.

Then there’s Iono (Special Illustration Rare), currently over £65, which is ridiculous for a Trainer card until you realize how broken it is. It can reset your opponent’s hand at any point in the game, making it a staple in almost every competitive deck. I’m running the regular Ultra Rare, but I’d trade my bulk collection to swap it out for the full art (Who wouldn't?).

Paldea Evolved is stacked with underrated cards, but Chien-Pao ex (Special Illustration Rare) deserves more attention. It’s sitting around £25, but give it time. It’s a monster in Standard format, and the artwork is stunning. If you love Pokémon with serious main character energy, this is one of the best picks in the set.

Paldea Evolved and Stellar Crown Pull Rates

The pull rates in Paldea Evolved are surprisingly fair, especially for Special Illustration Rares and Hyper Rares. No ridiculous imbalances mean a solid chance at pulling valuable cards compared to other sets where chase cards are way harder to find. The longer these sets stay in circulation, the more likely it is that cheap packs disappear entirely.

Stellar Crown’s pull rates are about what you’d expect from a 2024 Pokémon set. The "hit" rate isn't any higher than other releases, but what makes this set interesting is its smaller card pool compared to Twilight Masquerade. With only 33 Secret Rares in the entire set, compared to 56 in Temporal Forces and 59 in Twilight Masquerade, the odds of pulling a specific chase card are much better. Special Illustration Rare Terapagos ex for example is almost twice as easy to pull here as Greninja ex was in Twilight Masquerade. It also means Illustration Rares and Hyper Rares are a little more within reach since there are fewer of them competing for your pack slots.

For now Amazon still has stock at around £12 per blister pack. That’s a steal for sets with some of the best modern Pokémon cards, and it’s only a matter of time before they become just as hard to find as past special sets. If you’re even thinking about grabbing some, this is your chance before prices start creeping up beyond £4 a booster.

8 Great Ways to Celebrate Women's History Month Right Now

9 mars 2025 à 01:02

At IGN, we're excited to celebrate women in our history and industry who create, inspire, empower and make positive change in this world; not just this month, but every month. We hope you'll join us in continued learning, celebrating and elevating women’s voices. Here's everything to know about Women's History Month and some great ways to celebrate this March.

The History Behind Women's History Month

Women's History Month began as a petition by the National Women’s History Project in 1987, with a purpose to "celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields."

Did you know Women’s History Month actually began as “Women’s History Week" during the week of March 7 in 1982? It wasn't until 1987 that this cultural event would become a month-long, national celebration. Efforts continued in order to keep Women's History Month recognized, and every President since 1995 "have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women’s History Month.”

TL;DR - 8 Ways to Celebrate Women's History Month

  1. Learn About Women in History and Share Their Stories
  2. Support Women-Owned Businesses and Professionals

In addition to buying from women business owners, supporting women in their career growth is another integral part of the journey to uplift women. SoundGirls is a perfect example of an organization that exists to provide women in the specific industry (audio) an opportunity to "meet and network with industry professionals, creating a strong support network.” Anything we can do to share women's success stories, contribute, and spread the word around organizations that exist to offer workshops, networking resources, and beyond, can all help support women in business.

The increase in published books by women has also come with a boost for the book industry overall, which boasted a year-on-year increase of 12.3% in 2021 (if you're curious, publishing made $29.3 billion in 2021). With these stats we see what we've already known, really, which is that diversifying the publishing industry is not only the right thing to do, but people also just really like it.”

The Best Curved Monitors in 2025

8 mars 2025 à 23:00

Upgrading your setup with a curved gaming monitor is one of the best ways to improve your immersion. The best curved gaming monitors wrap into your peripheral vision and seem to draw you in, helping you get lost in your favorite game. So whether you're a competitive gamer looking for the extra edge in esports or a single-player aficionado hoping to get lost in your next storyline, I've got the best pick for you. These are the best curved gaming monitors of 2025.

TL;DR – These Are the Best Curved Gaming Monitors:

There was a time when choosing a great curved gaming monitor was pretty straightforward. But today, there are countless brands flooding the marketplace, too many me-toos that look the same on paper but don't stand toe-to-toe in real life. Of course, there are qualities you should look for depending on what kind of gamer you are. If you're a fan of shooters, a monitor with low input latency and a high refresh rate, should be on the top of your list. If you're looking for the most engaging and immersive experience, choosing a monitor with a deeper curve will be a better option. It's all about the details.

The Expert: Why Trust Us

I've been a gaming journalist for more than a decade. During that time, I've written for a number of major gaming publications and have tested more monitors than most people will use in a lifetime. I know what makes a gaming monitor great. More specifically, I know what makes a monitor great for different kinds of users. It's not all about panel type, refresh rate, and resolution. It's about how its different qualities come together to create something great that stands out from the riff-raff on Amazon. I cover monitors for IGN and make it my mission to give you the best recommendations to both save you money and ensure that you walk away with a great experience.

At IGN, we're gamers. Every review is filtered through multiple eyes to assure that you get the facts you need, when you need them. We make the connections so you don't have to and bring the best of the best to you, distilled down, in guides just like this one.

When you're done reading here, be sure to check out the Best Graphics Cards, Best Gaming Keyboards, Best Gaming Mice, and Best Gaming Headsets to complete your setup. A great gaming experience awaits.

1. Asus ROG Swift PG34WCDM

Best Curved Gaming Monitor

If you're looking for the best curved gaming display, look no further than the Asus ROG Swift PG34WCDM. In my review, I found it to be a simply outstanding option for gaming and productivity alike. Its deep 800R curve is great for immersion, and its cutting-edge OLED panel offers beautiful colors and outstanding brightness.

Its price fluctuates, but can usually be found for a little over $1,000. This gets you an impressive 1,300 nits of peak brightness for outstanding HDR gaming. Since it's an OLED panel, it offers deep and inky blacks. to enhance its dynamic range. Whether you're watching movies or playing games, its picture is simply stunning.

is also a great fit for content creation and professional work. It's 3,440x1440p resolution is crisp and well-suited to its 34-inch corner-to-corner screen size. Think of it like two 1440p monitors side by side without the bezel in between. It comes with excellent factory calibration and wide color gamut support, so you can be confident in its results if you choose to create content on it. Be warned, its deep curve can distort text a little bit, so it may take some getting used to and is best suited for entertainment over productivity.

On that front, it's built to impress. It runs at 240Hz for exceptionally smooth motion and low input latency. It also comes with a number of gaming modes to give you a competitive edge. There are the usual options like a black equalizer that allows you to peek into the shadows, but it also comes with sniper modes that zoom in on the center of your screen to help you nail those headshots. And for multi-platform gamers, you'll be pleased to find that it offers a built-in KVM to quickly swap to your console or laptop, bringing your peripherals with you.

It doesn't get much better than the PG34WCDM for curved gaming monitors and does a great job of justifying its high asking price.

2. AOC C27G2Z

Best Budget Curved Gaming Monitor

AOC is no stranger to delivering high-value gaming monitors for gamers on a budget. The C27G2Z is exactly such a monitor. Offering a solid picture on a spacious 27-inch screen, an immersive curve, and exceptional responsiveness with its 240Hz refresh rate, all for under $200.

This monitor packs a lot for a little when it comes to investment. For its accessible cost of entry, you're getting a high-quality VA panel with a 1500R curve - still relatively gentle but more noticeable than the multitudes of 1800R monitors out there. Because of the way this panel works with its backlight, it's able to offer a deep 3,000:1 contrast ratio, roughly double that of competing IPS gaming monitors, and it's immediately noticeable. While its colors and viewing angles don't quite match that panel type's high standard, I've found VA panels still offer very engaging colors that are perfect for gaming.

The monitor's real selling point, however, is its responsiveness. AOC has outfitted it with a 240Hz refresh rate and a 0.5ms response time. That's enough for even high-level competitive gaming. It allows the monitor to offer improved motion clarity in comparison to most others around this price point. Ghosting also shouldn't be an issue at these speeds.

The drawback here is that to achieve its full refresh rate, you'll be limited to a DisplayPort connection since it only comes with HDMI 2.0. This won't make a big difference, though, as every modern graphics card supports this DisplayPort and consoles using HDMI port will still be able to top out at 120Hz like a great gaming TV.

The AOC also sells a 32-inch version of this panel, but I would recommend sticking with the smaller size. At 32 inches, 1080p makes individual pixels visible, leading to a screen door effect that you might find distracting. If you crave the extra real estate, however, and don't mind the slightly softer image, at the time of this writing both versions are the exact same price, so it remains an impressive value.

3. Dell Alienware AW3423DWF

Best Value Curved Gaming Monitor

For the hands-down best value in curved gaming monitors, look no further than the Dell Alienware AW3423DWF. Now retailing for a bit over $600, this QD-OLED display offers massive bang for the buck. I gave it a glowing review when it released last year for $1,100 and now that the price has almost halved, it's an incredibly easy recommendation to make.

OLED monitors don't come cheap, and there's a good reason for that. Their advanced panel technology allows them to deliver some of the best images quality money can buy. Because of the way, because it, every pixel is individually controlled, it essentially allows the AW3423DWF to have millions of local dimming zones. On top of that, it's been enhanced with a layer of quantum dots to provide more vivid colors and increased brightness. Its picture is stunning and with its current pricing, it's one of the best ways to experience OLED for yourself while also enjoying an immersive curve.

Like all OLED monitors, its SDR brightness isn't amazing, but if you use it out of direct sunlight, it should be just fine. When gaming in HDR, however, it's able to peak at 1000 nits. Between this high brightness and its deep contrast, its HDR experience for both movies and games is a treat for the eyes - and that's without considering Alienware's picture enhancements and presets.

This display runs at a peak of 165Hz, which while not the absolute fastest, is still a good value for a QD-OLED at this price. And don't forget, because of the way OLED monitors work, it will still be much more responsive than your average IPS or VA display. In fact, while most of those monitors run at 1ms, and the very best might be rated for 0.5ms, this monitor is rated for only 0.3 ms. For competitive gaming and esports, that means improved motion clarity and an exceptionally smooth experience (and yes, it also supports AMD FreeSync and is Nvidia G-Sync Compatible).

Overall, there is not much to dislike about this monitor at its current asking price. It received glowing reviews when it launched, my own included, and has only gotten better with time and multiple price cuts as Alienware has released its own competitors.

4. Acer Predator X34 OLED

Best Ultrawide G-Sync Gaming Monitor

So far this year, the reigning king of ultrawide curved gaming monitors is the Acer Predator X34 OLED. It checks all of the boxes for a great gaming monitor, including an outstanding picture, fast refresh rate, deep curve, and plenty of features to take your gaming experience to the next level.

This monitor isn't the only 34-inch ultrawide on this list. It offers quite a bit to set itself apart. Its curve offers a deep 800R radius that wraps into your peripheral vision and seems to draw you into the center of the screen to increase your immersion. Between its variable refresh rate support (Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync) and 240Hz refresh rate, all of the motion of your favorite games flows with a silky smoothness that looks amazing.

Since this monitor comes with the ultrawide version of 1440p, you won't need a top tier system to run it. Though, you should plan on at least a medium performance graphics card for the best experience. Its OLED panel offers fantastic colors with solid factory calibration. Compared to many other OLED monitors, however, it offers superior brightness with a peak luminance of 1,300 nits. This allows highlights to glimmer with a lifelike quality that helps bring games and movies to life

If you are a content creator and work with timelines, you'll surely see the benefit of its 21:9 ratio. This allows you to view more of the timeline at any given time and makes the monitor feel much more efficient to use. It lacks a dedicated sRGB mode, which is strange, but does come with a P3 mode for standardized colors.

There are a lot of curved ultra-wide gaming monitors out there, but the Acer Predator X34 OLED is the premier option for 2025.

5. MSI MPG 491CQPX

Best Curved 32:9 Super Ultrawide Monitor

If you have a need for speed, er... space, then look no further than the MSI MPG 491CQPX. This 49-inch, 32:9 monitor is packed with features and a gorgeous, fast QD-OLED screen. It offers plentiful connectivity and enough screen real estate that it can completely replace a triple monitor setup all on its own.

So-called "super ultrawide monitors" aren't for everyone, but if you have the space, it can be a transformative experience for gaming and productivity alike. This 5,120 x 1,440 resolution screen is equivalent to three 1440p monitors side-by-side. Many users enjoy splitting the space into multiple windows, increasing their ability to multitask. Using this display, you could run a game in one portion, a stream in another, and monitor chat in a third. It's versatile in a way, smaller monitors aren't able to be.

Just because it's big doesn't mean that MSI has cut corners in other areas. Its display runs at 240Hz with a 0.03ms response time for truly exceptional motion clarity and performance suited to professional esports. Its 1800R curve is relatively gentle, but because it's so wide, is more meaningful and allows you to take in more of the screen at once. Its panel is enhanced with a quantum dot layer for improved colors and brightness, and the company has outfitted it with a heat-dispersing graphene layer internally to enhance its long-term durability. It also supports USB Type-C video input and 98W of PD charging to easily connect and charge your laptop.

A screen this large demands a relatively powerful computer, however. It's nearly as demanding as 4K, so if you plan to maximize its 240Hz refresh rate, you'll need a relatively beefy GPU (check out our list of the best graphics cards for suggestions.) Some users have also found its burn-in protection features to be a little overzealous with how often they remind you. They are effective, however, and go in line with MSI's three-year burn-in warranty so you can buy with confidence knowing that it will replace your panel should anything happen during the warranty term.

This size monitor isn't for everybody, but if you enjoy using multiple monitors at once, it's a great way to accomplish that much more seamlessly. And since this monitor regularly sells for less than $1,000, it could even be more cost effective than picking up three separate monitors to use side by side.

How to Choose a Curved Monitor

Choosing a curved gaming monitor is very similar to choosing a great gaming monitor in general. It's important to consider what you will be using it for. If all you need to worry about is gaming, then that will narrow your choices down. If you plan to use it for productivity or creative work like video editing, there are other things to consider.

Resolution: Resolution refers to how many pixels make up the panel of the monitor. A higher resolution leads to a crisper image, however, can be more difficult to run requiring a higher performance graphics card. The three main resolutions are 1080p (1,920x1,080), 1440p (2,560x1,440), and 4K (3,840 x 2,160). Ultrawide monitors extend the first figure with their added width, but the second usually remains the same and can be used to determine the level of clarity they will provide.

Size: Choosing the right size monitor for your needs depends on several factors. The most basic is how much available space you have. Along with this, however, you should consider the type of gaming experience you are seeking. If you're choosing a curved monitor simply for the aesthetic, a gentle curve and 16:9 aspect ratio is probably going to fit your needs. If you want lots of extra usable space, then choosing a larger ultrawide (21:9) curved monitor will likely be the better choice.

While they're not hard rules, there are some basic guidelines to consider when it comes to size. For 1080p, 24 inches is usually considered the sweet spot, offering crisp visuals across a decently-sized field of view. For 1440p, 27 inches is considered ideal for this same reason. If you're opting for 4K, however, 32 inches is frequently recommended as it's large enough to offer a high pixel density without losing details to a compressed screen. You can shift any of these resolutions up in size but at the expense of a slightly softer image. For 1080p in particular, at 27 inches and above, you risk being able to see the individual pixels which create a "screen door effect" across the viewing area.

Panel Type: The next thing to consider is the type of panel being used in the display. There are three main panels being used today and one backlighting type that often gets referred to as if it were its own panel technology. The three types are IPS, VA, and OLED. TN panels are technically also available but offer the worst picture available in mainstream gaming monitors and should only be picked if you value response time over literally everything else (I suggest avoiding them). The backlighting technology is called mini-LED and is most often paired with IPS panels.

IPS, or In-Plane Switching, panels are well-loved for their great colors and viewing angles. They used to be plagued by slower response times, and while that is technically still true, there are many that offer 1ms or even 0.5ms response times, so that concern is largely a thing of the past among gaming monitors. Older and lower cost IPS monitors can still have significantly slower response times and problems with ghosting, however, so it's important to take note of its rated response time before pulling the trigger. IPS panels also offer relatively low contrast, which can make blacks look dark gray. Backlight bleed can also be an issue.

VA, or Vertical Alignment, panels are a middle-ground between the benefits of IPS and the speed of OLED and TN. They're backlit using LEDs. However, because of the way the pixels operate, they block light where IPS panels would allow it through. This allows them to offer much better contrast while still maintaining very good colors and a slightly faster response time.

OLED, or Organic Light Emitting Diode, monitors are the current key trend in the upper-middle and high tier of curved gaming monitors. With this technology, each pixel is individually controlled, only illuminating what's needed at any given time. Put another way, every pixel becomes its own local dimming zone, adjusting brightness right to the point of turning off, allowing this technology to offer the best contrast available in gaming monitors today. They're also well known for their incredible color and stunning HDR.

The downside to these monitors is that they frequently have low average brightness due to their higher power consumption and heat. Burn-in or image retention is another concern; however, manufacturers have gotten very good about covering burn-in under their included warranties, as well as integrating many different protective features to make this less likely to occur. It is still an important consideration, though, and an inherent risk to the panel type.

Brightness: A monitor's brightness is rated in nits or candelas per square meter (cdm/2). As a rule, I recommend aiming for at least 350 nits of brightness if your desk is out of direct sunlight and higher if your budget allows. 400 nits is necessary for the first level of VESA DisplayHDR certification; however, you should take that with a grain of salt. For HDR gaming and movies, I suggest looking for a monitor with a peak brightness of at least 1,000 nits so that you can experience true wide dynamic range.

Refresh Rate: Refresh rate is how many times the monitor updates its picture per second. For gaming, I recommend sticking to at least 120Hz, with 144Hz being the ideal starting point. If you are a competitive gamer, a 240Hz, 360Hz, or even 480Hz monitor can be a better choice as they offer lower input latency and better motion clarity. Anyone that is not gaming at at least a semi-professional level, however, isn't likely to experience the same benefit and competitive edge, so I recommend sticking to more affordable refresh speeds and reinvesting those funds elsewhere into your PC or into new games.

Curvature: A monitor's curvature is indicated by an "R" number that is usually clearly disclosed in the product listing. On Amazon, it usually features prominently in the listing's title. The "R" stands for radius. If the arc of the screen were to extend into a circle, the number would indicate its width. Accordingly, a higher "R" number means a shallower curve. It can be tempting to go for the deepest curve possible. However, it's important to note that anything at 1000R or below is very deep and will likely distort images and text a small degree. This makes them a better fit for pure gaming instead of productivity and other daily use tasks.

Additional Features: If you've already shopped around for a monitor, then you're probably already aware that there are a lot of curved displays with the exact same specs. It's here that you can begin to differentiate them from one another. An important thing to look for is support for variable refresh rate (VRR). This feature eliminates screen tearing and can include Low Framerate Compensation (LFC) to help your games play smoothly even if your computer struggles to run them. If you have an AMD graphics card, you'll want to be sure the monitor supports FreeSync. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, it should be at least G-Sync compatible to ensure smooth, tear-free gameplay.

Likewise, there are many extra features that manufacturers will add to increase the value proposition and help each display stand out. If you intend to have multiple systems or a console hooked up in addition to your PC, choosing a monitor with a built-in KVM switch can make life more convenient. If you want to enjoy two different kinds of content, looking for one that offers picture-in-picture support can be wise.

Many gaming monitors also offer configuration software that can save you fumbling through the on-screen display (OSD) and even offer hotkeys to toggle settings and features. These can include features like Black Equalizer that let you peek into the shadows, on-screen reticles, or even built-in sniper modes that can zoom in on enemies. Some monitors even feature integrated AI to change contrast and picture settings depending on what's occurring in-game.

Upcoming Curved Gaming Monitors in 2025

There are always new gaming monitors being released, so rather than looking at individual models, it's helpful to look at the biggest trends guiding the industry. This year I was able to attend CES in Las Vegas and see many of the upcoming models firsthand. I have a full write-up of what's coming down the pipeline you can read here.

The biggest trend this year is once again OLED. Just about every major brand has multiple OLED displays the pipeline, spanning different for factors, designs, and intended audiences (though they're not always curved). Mini-LED monitors also look like they may be rising up as an alternative to this technology, solving the problems of brightness and burn-in at the expense of OLED's inky contrast. While most brands focused on their most premium and expensive models, there were also a number aimed at the middle of the market with more accessible prices.

Another trend to look out for this year is the collision of smart TVs with gaming monitors. Smart gaming monitors were a theme of the show. I reviewed an early model from Samsung at the end of last year that showcases the highlights of this approach: built-in game and movie streaming, live TV, and refined menus with TV-like picture settings. While I wasn't huge on the integration in that display, there's natural appeal for anyone that needs their monitor to serve double duty. Students in dorm rooms and gamers in small spaces should find a lot to enjoy in this current crop of smart monitors.

Curved Monitor FAQs

Are curved monitors better for gaming?

Many gamers think so, though this is in the eye of the beholder. In my experience, gentler curves are less perceptible and are more about the overall look of the monitor rather than practical impact. The influence of the monitor's curvature also depends on the size of the display. On smaller monitors, it's less noticeable, but on ultrawide gaming monitors, it can occupy more of your field of view and help create the effect of being drawn into the center of your screen. In terms of performance and responsiveness, a monitor's curve doesn't have an impact.

What is 800R, 1500R, and 1800R?

These numbers indicate the radius of the curvature on a gaming monitor. A lower radius indicates a deeper curve, whereas a higher radius is shallower. 1500R and 1800R curvatures are very gentle. 800R and 1000R, however, feel exceptionally curved and extend further into your peripheral vision. A very deep curve can be a gateway to immersion but can slightly warp text and objects that appear on the screen. This usually isn't very profound, and many gamers get used to it over time, yet if you do a lot of writing or are sensitive to this it can be distracting. I recommend leaving the deepest curves for gaming alone and opting for something a bit gentler for mixed use.

Are curved monitors good for work?

The answer to this question depends on the radius of the curve and the type of work that you'll be doing. Generally speaking, 1500R and 1800R curves are good for just about everything as their curvature is very mild. As mentioned in the previous answer, very deep curves usually aren't the best if you're doing a lot of typing or spreadsheet work due to the warping that can occur.

A curved ultrawide monitor can be a big asset for video editors and other creatives that use timelines in their work. Since these displays offer more horizontal space, you're able to view more of your timeline at any given time, and many people find this increases their efficiency. Outside of this use case and limited others, curved gaming monitors do not typically offer clear benefits compared to flat displays.

8 mars 2025 à 21:48

Alongside sharing the news that a Black Torch anime is officially in production at VIZ Media, IGN is exclusively able to reveal its first trailer.

VIZ Media announced the Black Torch anime at its Emerald City Comic Con panel and the trailer below shows Jiro Azuma in his stealth uniform. He isn't alone, however, as he has his powerful mononoke Rago on his shoulder. There is also a tease of a dark figure reflected in the cityscape that hints at the danger to come.

For those unfamiliar, Black Torch was created by Tsuyoshi Yakaki and was originally serialized in Jump SQ. and Shonen Jump+ from 2017 to 2018. As for what it is about, here is the official synopsis of the upcoming anime to catch you up.

"A new era of ninja battles begins," the official synopsis reads. "Hailing from a long line of ninja, Jiro has been brought up by his grandfather in the ancient warrior art of the shinobi. Jiro also happens to be a particularly skilled communicator able to converse with the animal world. But life takes an abrupt turn thanks to a mysterious encounter in the forest with an injured black cat named Rago. Only, Rago's feline appearance is deceiving...

"It turns out the “ordinary” cat is the stuff of mononoke legend–the Black Star of Doom! Swarming in the shadows are more mononoke, eager to exploit Rago’s uniquely immense powers. To fight back against the tide of dark spirits, the undercover Bureau of Espionage is poised to seek and destroy. Of course, everyone has their motives when it comes to Rago’s powers. But Jiro and Rago are ready. A shinobi clash between boy and mononoke is about to ignite!"

The Future of World-Building at Disney Panel From SXSW: Everything Announced

8 mars 2025 à 21:36

SXSW's The Future of World-building at Disney Panel was filled with exciting details and teases of the future of Disney Parks, including how The Mandalorian and Grogu will be joining a new mission aboard Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run, that Imagineers will need to create a new type of ride vehicle with emotion for Magic Kingdom's Cars ride, and a tease of what the load area and lift off will look like for the new Monsters, Inc. attraction.

Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D'Amaro and Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman led the festivities and discussed what their teams are working on and how beneficial it is when they collaborate for exciting new experiences at Disney Parks.

There was a ton discussed, and we've gathered all the biggest announcements and reveals below!

The Mandalorian and Grogu Will Join Smuggler's Run in a New Mission at the Launch of The Mandalorian & Grogu Film

While we knew The Mandalorian and Grogu would be part of a new story on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, Disney confirmed the new experience would debut alongside The Mandalorian & Grogu movie on May 22, 2026.

The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau and Imagineers Leslie Evans and Asa Kalama shared a bit more about the upcoming new story and revealed some concept art of locations that should excite fans of that galaxy far, far away. The images, which you can see below, include a Jawa's Sandcrawler on Tatooine, the Millennium Falcon and Mando's Razor Crest flying toward Cloud City on Bespin, and even a tease of visit to the wreckage of the second Death Star above Endor.

“This isn’t going to retell what happens in the movie – it’s more like participating in something that’s happening just off-camera from what you see in the film,” Favreau explained.

Imagineers captured scenes for this new story from the set of The Mandalorian & Grogu, meaning it should feel very authentic when it goes live.

In addition, it was also revealed that the wonderful BDX droids that have been seen at Disneyland will soon be making their way to Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. There will even be a new variant as an Anzellan (like Babu Frik!) named Otto will sometimes appear on a BDX that needs a little tune up.

Oh, and if that wasn't enough BDX goodness for you, the team shared these droids will be making an appearance in The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Here's a Sneak Peak at the Load Area and Lift Off of the New Monsters, Inc. Attraction at Disney World

Monsters, Inc. Land is coming soon to Disney World's Hollywood Studios and it will include an exciting new themed roller coaster that will be Disney Park's first-ever suspended coaster and its first with a vertical lift.

This new attraction aims to give guests the dream-come-true moment of soaring through Monsters, Inc.'s door vault and Disney shared a first look at the load area and how it should set the tone very well of what's to come.

We still have much to learn about this new attraction and the land it will live in, but this is an exciting tease nonetheless.

Pixar and Imagineering Reveal a New Type of Ride Vehicle Had to Be Made for Magic Kingdom's Upcoming Cars Attraction

Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter and Imagineer Michael Hundgen shared new details about the upcoming Cars attraction that will be part of the new Cars-themed land that is currently in development at Magic Kingdom.

“Our primary goal is creating an emotional experience for our guests,” Hundgen said. “For this Cars attraction, we need to invent a new type of ride vehicle. No one builds these in a factory because it has to do so much more than just carrying you from one place to another. We have to create a car that conveys a feeling when you ride in it.”

The team needed some real-world data to help in their research so they went to the Arizona desert to ride in an off-road vehicle and take off over rocky terrain. This new ride doesn't take place in Radiator Springs, but instead it will be a thrilling rally race through the mountains, so they want it to feel just right.

From there, they worked with a motocross company to build a dirt track of their own to race around and used that to develop what will eventually be the ride vehicle.

"We’re using a customized production vehicle,” Hundgen continued. “It has sensors all over it, and we’re taking it for test drives on our dirt track to gather data on how the vehicle responds to different terrain. This is where we turn that feeling we want into real-world engineering."

These vehicles will also get some Disney and Pixar magic thrown in as each car will have its own personality, name, and number.

Robert Downey Jr. Stops by Disney's SXSW Panel to Help Share More About the New Avengers Campus Attractions

Disneyland's Avengers Campus is getting two new attractions, including one called Avengers Infinity Defense where guests will team up with members of the Avengers to take on King Thanos across multiple worlds. However, the second one was the star of Disney's SXSW panel as Robert Downey Jr. himself stopped by to share new details about it.

It's been previously revealed that Downey Jr. would be returning as Tony Stark for Avengers Campus' Stark Flight Lab, an attraction that will take guests into Tony's workshop and allow them to experience some of the new tech he's been working on.

Downey Jr. said these new experiences are "the living embodiment of the Stark Enterprises mission statement."

“The curiosity, the passion, the inventiveness, the occasional flair for the dramatic, most of all a drive to put something good out into the world to make life better, at the minimum more fun by a mile, ” Downey continued. “It’s the privilege of a lifetime to be invited to participate.”

As for the ride itself, guests will sit in "gyro-kinetic pods" and will eventually be grabbed by a giant robot arm who will help them make "several high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and some other Avengers."

"Transferring from a track to a robot arm and then back again – nothing like this has ever been done before in a theme park, and we’re so excited about it,” Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney Imagineering Bruce Vaughn explained. “Usually, we hide all the tech behind the scenes so you can focus on the story. Here, the tech IS the story, so we’re putting it front and center.”

One of they ways Imagineering is making the tech the star of this attraction is the focus on that robotic arm, which actually takes heavy inspiration from Tony Stark's little robotic friend, DUM-E. The team enlisted the help of dancers and motion capture to help make these robots feel as real as possible.
