Apple's latest iPhones are flying off the shelves in some markets, and not in others. Apple CEO Tim Cook says this all comes down to where Apple Intelligence is available, and where it isn't.

In a recent chat with CNBC ahead of the company's earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook explained that regions where the company has rolled out its AI platform, Apple Intelligence, saw stronger iPhone 16 sales compared to areas that didn't have it.

Tim Cook's remarks suggest that Apple Intelligence might have been a key factor in boosting iPhone 16 sales in markets where it's available. However, China has not yet seen the rollout of Apple Intelligence.

It seems in the run-up to inauguration day, Apple may have at least considered or had discussions about returning advertising to X in some respect. As of this publication, it still hasn't returned and there is no information about how recent events have affected this decision.

The one-liner can be found in a Wall Street Journal report about Amazon increasing ad spend on X. Apple and other big tech companies paused ad spend in November 2023 after CEO Elon Musk promoted a post directed at the US Jewish community.

Cybersecurity researchers at Wiz recently found a major security lapse at DeepSeek, a Chinese AI startup. The company, known for its DeepSeek-R1 AI model, had left a ClickHouse database exposed — an oversight with serious consequences.

Over a million log entries, containing chat history, secret keys, and backend details, were left unprotected in the exposed database. Worse, the database allowed full administrative control without authentication, making it a goldmine for potential attackers.

Then, 3,380 executives, directors, and analysts were asked to rate enterprises in their own industry on nine criteria. Categories included things like investment value, quality of management, products, social responsibility, and ability to attract talent.

TSMC has a long history being Apple's chip producer, with it making everything from iPhone chips to Apple Silicon. However, there was a chance that Intel could've been in that role.

In an interview with YouTube channel Acquired, TSMC founder Morris Chang explained how Apple paused talks with TSMC in February 2011, to hear a proposal from Intel. At the time, Intel wanted to become the firm to construct Apple's chips, in the midst of when Intel chips were used throughout the Mac lineup.

When President Trump took office on January 20, 2025, one of the first executive orders he signed changed the names of multiple locations in and out of the United States. The most controversial was the change from Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America.

Politicians were quick to question Apple and Google on when the change would be reflected in their respective mapping apps. Google responded by stating Google Maps would be updated when the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) was updated — it still shows the Gulf of Mexico.

As a company well known for its stance on user privacy and security, Apple knows it has to be above board when it comes to hot-button topics. With the rise of AI and the potential for abuse, it could end up being tested by shareholders.

In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, the National Legal and Policy Center has proposed an item on the 2025 Proxy Ballot. The proposal is to be voted on by shareholders as part of Apple's Annual Shareholder Meeting, taking place on February 25.

Apple Vision Pro continues to be one of Apple's most frustrating yet amazing products it has ever released. It is simultaneously a preview of the future and a stark reminder of Apple's struggle to juggle multiple platforms in the modern era.

As it stands today, Apple Vision Pro is enough for me to get most of my work done. It sits in a similar space to where iPad Pro was a few years ago — almost there.

But recent data suggests that fewer people are biting. According to a Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) report, storage upgrades have dropped across the board for the latest iPhone models, signaling a shift in consumer behavior.

Carrying a hefty price tag of $5 whole American dollars, they were an instant buy for us to get them home and see how they compare to the real deal. Needless to say, it wasn't close.

What SOS on an iPhone means, and how it impacts what you can do

30 septembre 2024 à 20:09
An iPhone showing "SOS" isn't a cry for help, but it does mean you're having connection issues. This is what the three letters really mean.

SOS Only on an iPhone

SOS is well known as a Morse Code distress signal, quickly and efficiently communicating that there is a major and potentially life-threatening problem. While SOS doesn't actually mean "Save Our Souls" and is really just an agreed-upon communications sequence, the meaning is immediately understandable to almost anyone.

Your iPhone or cellular-equipped iPad can also display SOS in the status bar. However, the meaning is less about the phone being in trouble and more about what it cannot do.

An alleged user interface leak claims that Apple is going to change the way alarms work on iPhone.

On Tuesday, AppleInsider received imagery claiming to show an unannounced overhaul of iOS Clock notifications, implying a full app redesign is coming. Specifically, the images we received feature an entirely new interface for the Snooze feature already present on iPhone — something that pops up whenever users have active alarms.

Though the imagery contains a unique interpretation and a novel design for the alarm system on iOS, there are numerous questions about its authenticity, stemming from visual shortcomings, grammatical errors, and even inconsistencies with Apple's existing designs. Though the leak is most likely not real, it's important to understand exactly why we arrived at this rumor score.

iPhone SE 4 is expected to resemble the iPhone 14

Early rumors of the iPhone SE 4 appeared to be too good to be true. Everything from a 48MP camera, Dynamic Island, and a relatively new design went against Apple's usual attempts to make the budget phone as low-cost as possible.

Enough time has passed that some of the more premium features have trickled down to lower-cost models, so the early rumors appear to be more reasonable. However, a debate remained about how Face ID would be housed, and that has been settled by a prominent supply chain analyst.
