A well-known leaker with a questionable track record claims that Apple could release the iPhone 17 in two new colors.


On Friday, Leaker Majin Bu announced that Apple is currently testing iPhone 17 base model colorways. This time around, it seems as though Apple may be planning on going with a pastel green and purple.

From the images shared by Bu, the purple appears to be pretty similar to what we saw with the iPhone 11 lineup. The green, however, is more saturated than the light green iPhone 15 and skews more towards yellow than the mint green iPhone 12.

The Liquid Glass look of the new macOS Tahoe is the first thing a user sees, but the appearance isn't only aesthetic, it comes with new features and improves existing ones.


In previous years, Apple has sometimes dialled back its macOS changes between the first developer beta and its eventual public release. But even the earliest look at a new macOS brings most of what it will be like to use as official operating system of the Mac.

So while details may change, and there are clear areas where improvement is needed, it's already possible to say that macOS Tahoe is a step forward for the Mac. It may not be the enormous leap that Apple claims, or as big an improvement as has come to iPadOS 26, but it's a definitely and marked improvement.

Apple's latest back-to-school push has students making the case to their own parents with a Keynote or PowerPoint presentation about why they need a Mac for college.

Apple is pushing its "F1" movie hard, but we're discovering ever more about the company's first macOS Tahoe and iPadOS 26 betas, all on this week's episode of the AppleInsider Podcast.

Expanding still further on its Indian manufacturing for Apple, Foxconn is reportedly looking to produce iPhone enclosures in the country.


Foxconn has already opened a new factory in India in 2025, and it's a continuation of years of expansion — even if that hasn't always gone as well as planned. Now according to India's The Economic Times, Foxconn is expected to open a further new facility in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu.

Neither Foxconn nor Apple have commented publicly, but citing unnamed sources said to be aware of the developments, the report says Foxconn wants to make iPhone enclosures, or chassis there. The report first describes Foxconn as looking at setting up a new unit in the ESR Industrial & Logistics Park at Oragadam in Tamil Nadu.

Apple Intelligence went into a perpetual update loop for many users on Thursday, causing the old Siri animation to appear and on-device tools to stop working.


Issues surrounding Apple Intelligence have been cropping up throughout the day Thursday, and it may be due to a botched backend push from Apple. Users began noticing the lack of on-device Apple Intelligence early Thursday, and issues have continued propagating across devices and regions.

There's nothing on Apple's system status page that would indicate there are any issues, though there isn't a section for Apple Intelligence. AppleInsider reached out to Apple about the issue and has been told they are looking into it.

President Trump has signed yet another executive order delaying enforcement of the TikTok ban by 90 days, so companies like Apple, Google, and ByteDance don't have to worry about fines.


TikTok was targeted as a potential security threat during the first Trump administration, where a ban was threatened but never carried out. A law was passed by the Biden administration in 2024 that would result in a TikTok ban, and in spite of it going into effect on January 19, 2025, Trump immediately delayed enforcement of the ban after taking office on January 20.

Another delay was provided on April 4, which would mean enforcement of the law would begin on June 18, but yet another executive order was signed on Thursday. It seems President Trump is willing to delay enforcement of the law until "TikTok America" or some other solution is arrived at.

Apple's "Shot on iPhone" ad campaign has proven to be quite popular since it began in 2014, and it has now received the Grand Prix for Creative Effectiveness at Cannes Lions .


The "Shot on iPhone" campaign was originally introduced as a way to promote the camera system on iPhone. It suggested "if it's good enough to be on a billboard, it's good enough for anything you might do with a camera."

According to a report from Ad Week, Apple was given the Grand Prix for Creative Effectiveness at Cannes Lions for the "Shot on iPhone" campaign. The award was given as a reflection of the simplicity of the campaign around pitching to users that an iPhone and some imagination can produce something great.

FireWire's final curtain call may be upon us. In the first developer beta of macOS 26 Tahoe, Apple has removed all FireWire support.


While the removal comes in a beta release and technically could be reversed, that isn't likely. The FireWire section has been removed from the System Information app entirely.

Developers have noticed that FireWire devices no longer appear in Disk Utility or Finder. There's no sign that Apple plans to bring it back.

Apple may miss the the European Union's looming App Store anti-steering compliance deadline enforced by the Digital Markets Act — but it won't face automatic fines if it does.


It looks like both Apple and Meta are off the hook for Digital Markets Act (DMA) compliance — for now. Both tech giants won't be required to pay their multi-million dollar fines to the European Union, even if they should miss their compliance requirement.

In April, the European Commission fined Apple 500 million euros, an amount that worked out to roughly $570 million at the time. While it eventually gave Apple a grace period to bring its practices in line with the Digital Markets Act, it threatened to tack on extra fines if it did not comply by the June 26 deadline.

An App Store user is suing Apple because she was duped by a fake cryptocurrency app, neglecting her own role in her choosing to send money to fairly obvious criminals.


No question, Apple's app review team has had failures before. It appears, too, that this new lawsuit is evidence of another one, even as it follows the company's boasting that it protected users from $9 billion in fraud in the last five years.

Both statements can be true at the same time. That hasn't dissuaded a complainant in a suit from blaming Apple because she chose to send money to a crypto scam.

While getting an industry award, Apple Silicon chief Johny Srouji said that he wants generative AI to design chips, which has been blown out of proportion to mean that Apple hasn't ever used AI to do so. This is, of course, nonsense.


On Thursday, reports started to circulate about Apple and an intention to use generative AI to design the chips used in its products. Stemming from a speech at Imec in May, Apple Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies Johny Srouji made comments about the use of machine learning to design chips.

A video of the speech, initially reported by Reuters has Srouji explaining Apple's design of custom chips, going back to the A4 and up to modern-day chips like the M4 processor line.

A new immersive short video debuted Thursday on Apple Vision Pro. Titled "F1: The Movie Hot Lap," it takes viewers on a high-speed test drive with Brad Pitt.

In Formula 1, a "hot lap", also known as a fast lap or flying lap, is a full lap taken around a circuit in either practice or qualifying rounds. It's often the second lap done after the car has been warmed up with a slow lap.

European users will not get macOS Tahoe's Live Activities, and they still won't get 2024's iPhone mirroring, because of Apple's uncertainty over the EU's Digital Markets Act.


Apple initially held back Apple Intelligence from the European users — prompting lambasting criticism from the EU — but did eventually launch it in April 2025. It has not launched iPhone mirroring, and has now confirmed that it will not come to the EU with iOS 26 or macOS 26.

According to Paris-based publication Numerama, multiple unnamed Apple officials said that the company will still not enable the feature because of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Rather than any technological concern, Apple says that it simply unclear about the DMA's regulatory requirements and what they may lead to.

Apple is planning to have a punch-hole camera in the iPhone 18 Pro line, with a leaker saying the smaller aperture will still be able to handle Face ID.


The iPhone 18 Pro line is anticipated to revolutionize how the iPhone handles cameras in the display. The change will almost certainly minimize the currently distracting element of the iPhone display, but it will be an engineering challenge for the company and the supply chain.

Cybersecurity professionals have discovered a series of exposed datasets which contain 16 billion credentials obtained by infostealers, but those that practice good password hygiene should be safe.


There's probably at least one person in your life, perhaps it's you, that periodically reminds their family of the importance of proper password hygiene. The eye rolls and annoyed dismissals are expected, but the latest data breach may be enough to inspire some motivation.

According to research conducted by a cybersecurity team at Cybernews, 30 datasets containing over 16 billion stolen credentials appeared briefly online. The researchers haven't been able to discover who owns the dataset, but it's a massive breach that makes most others pale in comparison.

As part of its iconic "Shot on iPhone" campaign, Apple has released yet another short film, called "Big Man," featuring UK rapper Michael "Stormzy" Omari.


The short film, which debuted on Wednesday, sees Stormzy in the role of a world-weary musician who hasn't made any music in nearly eight years. Stormzy's character, Tenzman, runs into two bright and joyful kids, and the trio embarks on a life-changing journey, which ends with Tenzman making new music.

"Big Man" has a runtime of just under 20 minutes, and the short film was directed by Aneil Karia. The London-based writer and director is known for his work on Beat, Surge, and The Long Goodbye. Karia also makes an appearance in Apple's behind-the-scenes video for "Big Man," where the director outlines the advantages of using the iPhone 16 Pro for the project.

Safari's update for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe brings many UI tweaks as well as changes to Web Apps and HDR photos, alongside many other smaller changes. Here's what they all look like, and how they work.


The focus of WWDC is on the operating systems, but the changes that are introduced by Apple often affect the apps that run on them. This includes Safari, which has been updated to beta 26 to match the numbering system of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 Tahoe.

All three browsers get a few obvious changes, but there are many others under the surface that don't get detailed. According to the Webkit official blog, the beta of Safari 26 has a staggering 67 new features and 107 improvements.

In the latest chapter of the ongoing saga, the iPhone Fold is now rumored to be entering mass production in 2026, with pre-production steps starting in late 2025.


The process to design and manufacture an iPhone is phenomenally long, and it appears to be the same for the iPhone Fold. According to one analyst, it could take close to a year for the manufacturing process to be finalized.

In a Wednesday X post by Ming-Chi Kuo of TF Securities, Foxconn will be kicking off a project to produce Apple's first foldable smartphone in late Q3 or early Q4 of 2025. This puts the start of the project at around the time the iPhone 17 will hit store shelves.

Apple component supplier Texas Instruments is making the largest investment in foundational U.S. chip production to date, expanding with a $60 billion build across Texas and Utah.


Texas Instruments is putting more than $60 billion into new chip factories across Texas and Utah, a move the company says will support over 60,000 jobs and help secure the supply of key components for everything from the iPhone to cars.

The investment covers seven fabrication plants that use 300mm wafers, a mature process ideal for TI's analog and embedded chips. For Apple, these are chips that are used for power management and in touchscreen controllers.

Children and their parents or guardians are now invited to register for Apple Camp, which this year will focus on making movies on the iPad.


Aside from the COVID years of 2020 and 2021 when it had to run an online version, Apple has been hosting an annual Apple Camp for children for almost 25 years. Each year has a different focus, but runs as a series of 90-minute sessions over a few weeks in the summer.

This year's theme is Direct Your Own Friendship Film on iPad, and it's for children aged 6-10. That's down from the 8-12 age range of most previous Apple Camps, but the camp is also running for slightly longer than before, at about five weeks.

Following a series of problems with its YouTube app for iPhone, Google has now issued an updated version and recommends users reinstall it.


YouTube does still add new features to its iOS app, such as picture-in-picture, and it continues to promise a native app for Apple Vision Pro. But its main YouTube app for iPhone has being malfunctioning over the last few days.

In response to complaints, Google first issued an advisory suggesting that users should delete and reinstall the app. This was said to be a "temporary workaround" while the problems were being investigated.

Sega is about to drop support for a series of nine Sega games for the iPhone, with classics including "Crazy Taxi" and "Sonic the Hedgehog 4," but for now they remain free to download and play.


Back in 2017, Sega began issuing free but ad-supported versions of some classic games for iOS under the banner of "Sega Forever." Forever now seems to be about to end, though, as a series of titles have been made completely free — and have a warning about support coming to an end.

Sega has not officially announced this beyond the in-game notices, and there is as yet no detail about when support will end. It's not even clear whether the titles will remain on the App Store, but the warning notice suggests they won't.

Newly released to developers, Apple Intelligence's transcription tools are fast, accurate, and typically double the speed of OpenAI's longstanding equivalent.


This could be another example of Apple entering a market late but doing it best. Since OpenAI released its Whisper transcription technology in September 2022, it has become the standard model in dozens of apps — but now may not stay that way.

For during WWDC 2025, Apple announced that it was opening up its Apple Intelligence tools to third-party developers. While Apple barely gave any details, and certainly did not promote its transcription tools, developers are now discovering what facilities it brings.

A change in the display technology used in the iPhone 19 may mean that the screen uses less power, prolonging battery life for users.


The display is one of the components that consumes a high amount of power when used. As changes made to the display can greatly affect battery usage, Apple is keen to keep the screen as power-efficient as possible.

The current iPhone 16 Pro models use a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED display, which is designed to conserve power. However, a tweak to the design will help cut its power draw down more.

Big Tech companies including Amazon, Meta, Google, and Microsoft — but not Apple — are lobbying to block US states for forming any AI regulation for the next decade.


The lobbying is being done by trade body Incompas, on behalf of its members, which include major technology firms as well as energy and law firms. Apple is not a member, but it has previously lobbied against similar AI regulation plans in Europe.

According to the Financial Times, none of the four Big Tech firms would comment on the lobbying. But Incompas CEO and former congressman Chip Pickering argues that preventing differing and conflicting AI regulation across the US is essential.

Apple's ex-chief designer Jony Ive has joined the British Museum as it works to renovate its London buildings and better use digital technologies.


Since leaving Apple, Jony Ive and his LoveFrom firm have become a staple of design in Britain, from designing a royal emblem for King Charles, through a space project logo, and redesigning Comic Relief's famous red nose. Now Ive has been appointed to the board of Trustees of the British Museum.

"It is an extraordinary honour to join the Board of Trustees of the British Museum," Ive said in a statement to AppleInsider. "I have adored the museum since I first visited as a child over fifty years ago."
