A sketchy AI firm tried to pass off a bogus Steam breach, but it unraveled almost immediately. This one was a fake, but the next one might not be. Here's how to protect yourself from losing control of an account that may be worth thousands of dollars.


A recent claim on LinkedIn alleges that a database containing 89 million Steam account records, including one-time passcodes (OTPs) used for two-factor authentication (2FA), is up for sale. The asking price is $5,000, a low figure for a leak of this scale.

But despite the headline-grabbing figure and some reposts online, the evidence supporting this leak was outright fabricated. Fortunately, Apple users can take advantage of the built-in Passwords app, which now supports two-factor codes across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

An update to Apple Maps will help users find fine-dining restaurants, with the ability to search for Michelin-starred, Green Star, and Bib Gourmand restaurants.


Users of Apple Maps and other navigation tools often use the apps to find somewhere to eat. With an update to Apple Maps, it'll be easier to find some of the more upper-class establishments.

Starting from May 14, Apple Maps in the United States adds the ability to view rankings and suggestions from food experts. Restaurants that have earned the revered Michelin star, or are reviewed under Green Star or Bib Gorumand, will now have details about their rankings appearing on their Apple Maps listings.

Apple's gearing up for WWDC 2025, and the company's Apple Developer application has been updated as part of the preparations.


On Wednesday, the iPhone maker released an update for its official Developer app. Aside from bug fixes and "various enhancements," the updated application will offer access to WWDC 2025 videos and consultations, as well as a new assortment of WWDC-related stickers.

Apple's next annual Worldwide Developer Conference is set to begin with a keynote video on June 9, 2025. It's where the company will update its next-generation operating systems, namely iOS 19, macOS 16, visionOS 3, and watchOS 12, among others.

Owners of the Apple Vision Pro will soon have the option of scrolling through apps using their eyes, without lifting a finger.


The Apple Vision Pro primarily uses hand gestures as its control scheme, with users able to select items and make changes with a movement of the fingers. It seems Apple's making it possible to do some things without needing gestures at all.

According to Bloomberg on Wednesday, Apple is working on a feature that builds upon the existing eye-tracking functionality of the Apple Vision Pro. Allegedly being tested for possible inclusion in visionOS 3, it will let users move around the app simply by looking around.

Since its small beginnings in 1983 and right up to the current slick video presentations, WWDC has been where Apple has made so many major announcements — and sometimes they were so major they were turning points for the company.


To be clear, the biggest single turning point for Apple must be the launch of the iPhone, and that didn't happen at WWDC. Nor did the iPod before it. Nor the 1998 iMac that saved the company.

But apart from that... While WWDC has not always been so important to Apple's future — and while it wasn't always called the Worldwide Developers Conference — it has become so. Chiefly because it is a WWDC that so many Apple-changing announcements were made.

Apple continues to gradually expand its direct iPhone sales to consumers, but most U.S. buyers still get their devices through carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.


Mobile carriers including AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile accounted for 75% of iPhone sales in the U.S. as of late 2023, according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners. Apple's own retail stores and website made up 15%, with the remaining share held by big-box retailers like Best Buy and Target.

The balance has held steady for more than a decade. In 2015, carriers already claimed 75% of U.S. iPhone sales, while Apple's share stood at 11%. Apple has crept up, but mostly gained share from third-party retailers, whose role in smartphone sales continues to shrink.

As iPhone sales in China continue to decline, two of the country's biggest online retailers are offering discounts of up to $350 on certain models.


While sales are rare in the US, to say the least, Apple or local resellers have regularly offered iPhone discounts in China. It will be because iPhone sales continue to decline in the country, but also because China has key shopping seasons, including "618" in June.

Ahead of this year's "618" shopping season, Reuters reports that two of China's biggest online resellers have launched promotional offers on the iPhone 16 range. Such sales are now an annual fixture in China, but reportedly this time the discounts are particularly high.

Display industry vet Ross Young shared information suggesting iPhone 18 Pro models are indeed going to get under-display Face ID, but selfie cameras will still be visible for now.


Under-display Face ID is one of those rumors that started the minute the technology arrived and has been repeated frequently, even recently. The dreaded notch followed by the compromise that was the Dynamic Island both exist as a result of Face ID needing screen space.

According to former Display Supply Chain CEO, current VP of Counterpoint Research, Ross Young, Apple is set to put Face ID components under the display with iPhone 18 Pro in 2026. The information was shared via a social media post about a business conference.

I've used a lot of game controllers on my Mac and other platforms, but I've never seen one like this. GameSir fixed the controller layout problem by letting you change the Tarantula Pro's on the fly.

PayPal users in Germany say they can now complete contactless payments via iPhone, as Apple was forced to open up its NFC technology to third parties in the European Union.


Before the EU's Digital Markets Act went into effect, contactless payments on iPhone were only available through Apple Pay. The company's NFC technology remained exclusive to its payment service until January 2024, when Apple was required to grant third-party companies access to the same NFC chip used for Apple Pay.

Norwegian company Vipps MobilePay was the first in the region to implement contactless payments on iPhone, back in December 2024, and now it appears as though PayPal is following suit, though only in Germany. According to the website iPhone-Ticker.de, PayPal's "Tap to Pay" feature is now available on iPhones in Germany.

In 2021, Apple TV+ unveiled the "Wild Things: Sigfried & Roy" podcast, which followed the tale of the titular illusionists. It aimed to pull back the velvet curtain and examine the most famous and controversial magicians in history.

Apple's research into future technology usage has led to an ALS patient controlling an Apple Vision Pro with their mind, using an implant.


While Apple products can be controlled by many different means, including touch and voice, Apple is keen to work on new interface types. One of those under development is using a person's thoughts to control a device.

In a profile of Apple's work in the field, the Wall Street Journal profiled on Tuesday about its explorations in the field with startup Synchron. While Apple provides devices that could be controlled, Synchron creates the Stentrode implant that works as a brain computer interface.

While Apple never reveals anything else about its next operating systems until each year's WWDC, it now regularly makes an exception for accessibility options. As it did with eye tracking in iOS 18 to let users control their iPhones and Macs, it's now bringing new accessibility features to all of its devices.

iOS and iPadOS used to have a top-level Settings group simply called Mail. From here, you used to be able to add, remove, and change settings for all your Mail accounts.

The ampersand seems to be a bit of a problem for the iOS Messages app, as the application can't transcribe voice and send messages of popular names containing the character.


There have been some interesting, and sometimes unfortunate, bugs with Apple's Messages and text-to-speech functions. The latest is a bit odd, but mostly affects names with a specific special character.

Some users may face difficulties stating names of specific brands, such as Ben & Jerry's, Dolce & Gabbana, Tiffany & Co., and so on, via Messages. Users who've tried to send voice messages with such brand names and phrases say their messages won't go through at all. The voice message will appear on the sender's phone, but not on the recipient's device.

Apple and Nike have released a new promotional offer, which gives existing Apple Card holders 6% cash back on Nike purchases made through Apple Pay.


With Nike's limited-time offer, Apple Card holders can earn a maximum of $30 in immediate cash back on qualifying purchases of up to $500. The new promotional offer is valid from May 12 through June 15, 2025, and covers purchases made through all of Nike's official platforms.

The original Apple Home architecture will officially lose support with the release of iOS 19, and users are already being encouraged to update ahead of the discontinuation.


The iPhone maker's move doesn't come as much of a surprise, however, as references to the change were discovered back in March 2025. Specifically, the third developer beta of iOS 18.4 contained text strings that effectively urged users to upgrade to the latest Apple Home architecture.

Though it was buried within the operating system, the text would've informed users of the need to "update now to avoid interruptions," as support for the older Apple Home architecture was going to "end soon."

The phone calls between the President and the country's most lucrative tech company's CEO have become regular, though it isn't clear what they accomplish beyond keeping Apple on the nice list.


The economically catastrophic and seemingly random tariff wars reached a new milestone on Monday as the Trump administration announced a new tariff deal with China. While Apple was exempt from much of the tariffs for now, it was still set to take a $900 million hit in the June quarter — which now may have been lessened.

According to a report from CNBC, President Trump said he spoke with Apple CEO Tim Cook on the phone after announcing the changes to the tariffs in China. He didn't share details of the conversation, only that Cook will "even up his numbers."

Apple's next progression in artificial intelligence could be hardware-centric, with the latest leak saying that it will be used to manage the battery life of the iPhone.


According to sources of Bloomberg on Monday, Apple is preparing to introduce a new artificial intelligence feature in iOS 19. That feature will be an update to the battery management system of iOS to work based on a user's usage habits.

Apple released new security updates Monday for macOS Ventura, macOS Sonoma, and iPadOS 17, continuing its support for older devices with critical patches aimed at resolving vulnerabilities.

Apple Vision Pro users will have a much easier time finding spatial and 3D content thanks to a new tab in the Apple TV app in visionOS 2.5, which is now available.


The latest cycle of Apple operating system releases is here, and they're quite devoid of user-facing features. At the least, Apple Vision Pro users got one beneficial upgrade.

Apple's Immersive Video has always existed in the Apple TV app as a kind of list, but it wasn't fastened to a specific part of the app. Users would either have to search for them, or hope it showed up in the top highlights.

Apple has just rolled out tvOS 18.5, and as anticipated, it's another standard minor update focused on quality-of-life upgrades.


Unlike Apple's other operating systems, tvOS doesn't tend to get many feature updates between major releases. Most of the updates to tvOS focus on improving stability and addressing any bugs that have popped up.

It's time to update your Apple Watch, as Apple has just released watchOS 11.5 to the public.


As is often the case, the recent watchOS update was rather uneventful and has not introduced any new features. While it may not be the most exciting sort of update, such updates are essential for ensuring that previously added features continue to function correctly.

In watchOS 11.4, Apple introduced a new "Break Through Silent Mode" alarm option in Sound & Haptics. Switching this feature on means that sound and haptics will play regardless of whether or not Silent Mode is engaged.

The new macOS Sequoia 15.5 is now publicly available, but significant new features are being held back for WWDC and the announcement of macOS 16.


After the regular round of beta testing, macOS Sequoia 15.5 is now rolling out worldwide. As of now, it is the system that will ship on new Mac, and as ever, it is recommended to upgrade to it — after a few days.

This release of macOS is chiefly focused on bug fixes and improving performance, but any macOS update is major. So while the bug fixes, the better performance, and also further security, are all reasons to update, wait until it's been out for a little while.

It's a classic late-cycle update, with iPadOS 18.5 releasing with a new notification for Screen Time and a new modal for making Apple TV purchases on third-party devices.


Apple should have been refining new Apple Intelligence features with iPadOS 18.5, but since the new contextual AI was delayed, there's not much here. The new update includes bug fixes and a couple of other tiny changes that are also a part of iOS 18.5.

The release notes specifically call out the new Pride Harmony wallpaper, a Screen Time feature, and an Apple TV app update. There is nothing specific for iPadOS in the release.
