Ubisoft has been quietly working away on the Splinter Cell remake for over four years at this point. Unfortunately, it appears that we are no closer to seeing the game in action, as recent job listings indicate yet another change in creative leadership. 

Less than one year after announcing the remake to the world, Ubisoft hit a crossroads when the game's director left the company. A new director was appointed but as of September 2025, they too have departed Ubisoft.

As spotted by Tech4Gamers, a now deleted job post on the Ubisoft website confirmed that the studio was now looking for a third director for the Splinter Cell remake. Considering the job listing is no longer active, it could mean Ubisoft have already found someone, or it could mean that they are undergoing private recruiting.

The timing of this is pretty disappointing, as the animated series, Splinter Cell Deathwatch, has attracted an audience on Netflix and has already been greenlit for a second season.

At this point in time, it is entirely unclear how far along this remake project is. Splinter Cell isn't the only remake having some trouble either, as the Prince of Persia remake has also suffered numerous delays, despite initially being announced with a 2021 release date.

Known for their work on the somewhat charming Sherlock Holmes series of games, Frogwares’ single most high-profile title is likely The Sinking City. Released back in 2019, the game received a generally warm reception, leading the team to introduce a remaster and announce a sequel. Initially planned to arrive sometime this year, the team have now confirmed that The Sinking City 2 will launch during the first half of 2026 instead.

Making the announcement on their store page, the team at Frogwares confirmed the delay, writing: “As many of you know, we’d been aiming to launch The Sinking City 2 in 2025. After extensive internal discussions, we’ve made the decision to move the release into the first half of 2026.”

Unfortunately, as with many games being worked on in Ukraine, the ongoing conflict with Russia / Putin has impacted development, with Frogwares explaining “Developing a game during an ongoing war continues to bring challenges that are difficult to predict – from drone and missile strikes to the incoming power outages and the constant need to adapt to unstable conditions.”

They continued, adding that “these realities inevitably slow our pace, and rather than rushing to meet a date that no longer makes sense, we’re choosing to take the time needed to finish the game properly and deliver it at the quality you deserve.”

As a bit of a consolation, the team shared a bunch of new screenshots, showcasing the game’s dark, moody and depressing atmosphere. In addition, Frogwares partook in an interview with Epic Games to discuss the team’s use of Unreal Engine 5 while also answering more general questions regarding the upcoming horror-focused sequel (available HERE).

Each month, Sony updates its PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium libraries with a number of new and returning titles. Unfortunately, the company also removes games from the service on a monthly basis. With October’s PS Plus line-up officially available to claim, the console maker has now unveiled 7 titles which are set to depart the service next month.

In going to the last chance to play section on the PlayStation 5’s PS Plus tab, subscribers can find a list of 7 titles which are set to be removed from the service next month (likely mid-November):

• Battlefield V
• Like a Dragon: Ishin!
• Digimon Survive
• Synapse
• Travis Strikes Back: No More Heroes
• Football Manager 2024 Console
• Daedalus: The Awakening of Golden Jazz

Interestingly, a number of the games leaving have recently gotten new entries (or are set to receive a sequel), including Battlefield, Digimon and Football Manager. Similarly, those sad to see Like a Dragon: Ishin! being removed after roughly a year on the service have Yakuza: Like a Dragon to enjoy – being one of the headlining titles for October.

Finally it is worth pointing out that we are set to lose yet another VR title next month (Synapse) despite PS Plus Premium’s offerings being relatively lacking in this department.

The PAYDAY series is in a bit of an awkward spot. Following the disappointing launch of PAYDAY 3, many fans opted to go back to the previous entry in the series – leading studio Starbreeze to make some less-than-popular decisions regarding the decade-old title. Fortunately, Starbreeze seems to have now found a healthy medium between the two titles, announcing that they have hired a support studio to work on PAYDAY 2 while the core team continues to work on the latest entry.

Making the announcement via their Steam page, the team at Starbreeze wrote: “Hello heisters, We’re excited to announce that we’re partnering with Sidetrack Games to support the PC-versions of PAYDAY 2 with quality-of-life improvements and general game fixes.”

For the uninitiated, Sidetrack Games is composed of PAYDAY modders who have proven themselves within the community over the years. In partnership with Starbreeze, Sidetrack Games are working on an update for PAYDAY 2 which is set to go live later today, focused on “the stability of the game and improving the overall player experience.”

The team concluded by stating “Collaborating with Sidetrack Games allows Starbreeze to maintain full focus on PAYDAY 3, while PAYDAY 2 continues to deliver value for all players with the dedicated, expert support they deserve.”

In many ways it feels as though PAYDAY 2 was a lightning in a bottle type situation. Whether its successor can ever reach such heights, we will have to wait and see. That said, it is encouraging to see that the team appear to have found a solution which works for the developers, the fans, and hopefully the future of PAYDAY itself.

2025 has been the year for price hikes, with Xbox in particular increasing the cost of its consoles multiple times, its accessories and most recently Xbox Game Pass. It seems consumers aren’t the only ones being impacted however, with Microsoft having now raised the price for its Xbox dev kits by 33%.

As reported by industry insider Tom Warren (via The Verge), Microsoft recently informed developers that the company’s Xbox dev kits have gone up in price – increasing from $1500 a unit to $2000 (a 33% hike).

As with pretty much all other recent adjustments, this new price is said to be as a result of “macroeconomic developments” – though Microsoft made sure to note that “we remain committed to providing high-quality tools and support for your development efforts.”

While $2000 may not be much in the grand scheme of things when it comes to game development, raising the price on dev kits for a platform which has been struggling for years is a curious choice, especially with various 3rd-party titles having already skipped Xbox in favour of other systems.

That said (though not applicable to all), Microsoft’s indie-focused ID@Xbox program does offer some dev kits for free, meaning the price increase hopefully should not affect everyone. Still, this comes at an odd time for Microsoft – and adds further fuel to the fire regarding the console maker’s negative public sentiment.

While the first entry in the Mortal Kombat reboot film adaptation failed to light the world on fire, Warner Bros. appears to be quite confident in the upcoming sequel. After being pushed back from October 2025 to May 2026 in order to ensure greater returns on their investment, Mortal Kombat II has now been moved once again – this time to one week earlier.

As reported by the publication Deadline, the upcoming Mortal Kombat II film adaptation, which was announced to be arriving on the 15th of May, has now been brought forward slightly.

In order “to get better play at the summer box office” the sequel is now set to officially arrive on the 8th of May – one week earlier than previously planned.

As mentioned, 2021’s Mortal Kombat film received a pretty mixed reception upon its release, achieving a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 55% while amassing $84 million at the box office off of a $55 million budget.

That said, the film was released simultaneously across both cinemas and WB’s HBO Max streaming service. In that regard Mortal Kombat managed to become HBO Max's most successful film launch up to that point. Additionally fans of the series were much kinder to the adaptation, landing at an RT score of 85%.

Most recently, WB also confirmed that a 3rd Mortal Kombat film is in the works – giving extra credence to the notion that the distributor is feeling confident in this sequel. It will be interesting to see just how successful Mortal Kombat II winds up being, and whether the back-and-forth on its release date was ultimately worth it.

In recent years we’ve seen Valve tweak and improve its Steam store front, adding new features, deprecating others while giving much of its UI/UX a fresh coat of paint. Those enrolled into the platform’s Steam Labs feature can now check out the service’s new ‘Personal Calendar’ – allowing you to more easily track future upcoming releases.

Making the announcement via their blog, the team at Valve officially unveiled their latest project – Personal Calendar – writing:

“The new Steam Personalised Calendar is a look at both recently released and upcoming games, filtered down to the set of games we think you are most likely to be interested in.”

As mentioned, this feature is currently exclusive to Steam’s Labs experiment and as such could change between now and when it is officially released. That said, as of right now, Steam’s Personal Calendar “finds people with similar playtime profiles to you, and then looks at the games those players have been adding to their wishlist.”

This new recommendation system is said to take into account not only which games you play, but how long you’ve played them for. In addition, you will be able to make use of comprehensive filtering options which also takes into account previously-adjusted store content preferences.

Of course, the most notable part of this new addition is its calendar aspect, with the list of recommendations including a timeline of upcoming games you might be interested in as well as titles which have recently come out (both in the past week and last month).

The open source Qwen3-8B AI model is now available through NVIDIA ACE as an In-game Inferencing (IGI) SDK plugin, which simplifies the pipeline and optimises AI inference and graphics processing for accelerated game performance.

NVIDIA has also released a set of new updates for the NVIDIA RTX Branch of Unreal Engine (NvRTX), including the Unreal Engine 5.6.1 release, RTX Mega Geometry, and further ReSTIR PT performance and image quality improvements.

In a market saturated with hardcore extraction shooters, a charmingly absurd parody has just waddled its way to the top of the Steam charts. Escape from Duckov, a top-down PvE looter shooter featuring heavily armed ducks, has become an overnight sensation since its launch on October 16th.

Developed by Team Soda, known for Snake Force and Soda Crisis, the game blends familiar extraction mechanics like raiding, looting, upgrading, with a quirky duck theme. Although it might seem a bit ridiculous on paper, it seems players can't get enough. According to the developer, the game sold over 500,000 copies in just its first three days.

The concurrent player numbers are equally staggering. SteamDB figures show the game has already hit a peak of over 182,000 players online simultaneously, placing it among Steam's most played games right now, but still behind behemoths like Counter-Strike 2, Battlefield 6, and Arc Raiders. This makes it the fourth best-selling game on the platform at the time of writing. Moreover, user reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, currently sitting at 95% favourable across nearly 7,000 reviews worldwide. While a significant portion of the player base is in China, the game's simple premise and addictive loop have clearly resonated worldwide.

Another ingredient for its success might be pricing. It launched at just £18, with a 12% discount currently bringing it down to £15.83 until October 30th. For that price, players are getting a surprisingly deep package, with five stages, over 50 weapons, base building, skill trees, crafting, and even Steam Workshop support for user-created content.

Sports Interactive has announced a multi-year licensing agreement with FIFA, bringing official rights to Football Manager for the very first time. Starting with next year's FIFA World Cup 26, the game will feature official tournament branding, kits, and more.

This partnership means that Football Manager 26, which is already set to be a transformative entry thanks to its move to the Unity Engine and the inclusion of women's football, will now feature a new level of authenticity for international management. The deal covers not only the men's World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the USA, but also the FIFA Women's World Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

The results of this partnership will be seen next year via a free update, timed ahead of the real-world tournament kicking off in June 2026. FM26 Mobile (Netflix) will be the exception, getting the update at launch. This update will include a revamped international management module and will bring fully licensed kits for all 48 participating national teams, alongside official tournament logos and broadcast graphics.

The game is scheduled for a worldwide launch on PC and consoles on November 4th.
