Save 30% Off the New Sony WH-1000XM6 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones, Delivers by Christmas

16 décembre 2025 à 04:00

The best Black Friday deal on Sony's newest flagship wireless noise cancelling headphones has returned. eBay (via either Buydig or Electronic Express) is offering a brand new pair of Sony WH-1000XM6 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones for just $318.40 after you apply off coupon code "HOLIDAYRUSH". That's a 30% discount off the $450 list price and matches the best deal I saw during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. eBay estimates free delivery before Christmas. Both retailers are authorized Sony resellers, so you get the full manufacturer's warranty.

30% Off Sony WH-1000XM6 Noise Canceling Headphone

The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones is the 2025 successor to the WH-1000XM5 that was released back in 2022. Both sound quality and noise cancelation have been noticeably improved on the XM6 thanks to a more powerful QN3 audio processor and a total of 12 beam-forming microphones that do a great job of picking up and cancelling out unwanted noise. The XM6 is also more comfortable to wear because of the hinged earcups. The same design also allows the XM6 to be more easily stowed away since the earcups can be folded inwards to fit in a smaller carrying case. It can last up to 30 hours on a single charge, and a quick 3 minute top-up over USB Type-C will give you up to 3 hours of continuous playback. You can save some money by going with an older generation XM5 or even the XM4, but as long as it is within your budget, the XM6's improvements in sound quality, noise cancelation, and ergonomics makes the new model worth it.

The Meta Quest 3 VR Headset Drops to as Low as $359.99 With Free Christmas Delivery

16 décembre 2025 à 02:40

The most popular Meta Quest deal from Black Friday is back. The official Meta eBay Store is once again offering refurbished Meta Quest 3 512GB VR headsets for just $359.99 after a 20% off coupon code "HOLIDAYRUSH". Better yet, it comes with an extended 2 year warranty supplied by Allstate. Since these headsets are reconditioned and shipped by Meta itself and include original accessories, so it's not much different from buying a brand new one.

Refurb Meta Quest 3 for $359.99

Includes extended 2 year warranty

Buy Meta Quest 3, Get $100 Amazon Credit

If you insist on buying new, Amazon is offering $100 in bonus Amazon digital credit when you purchase a new Meta Quest 3 VR headset for $499.99 and apply coupon code "QUEST30". Order it now and you'll receive it before Christmas, even with the free shipping option for non-Prime members.

The Meta Quest 3 is the best standalone consumer-oriented VR headset. There's a good reason why it costs $200 more (at retail) compared to the more entry level Quest 3S. Although the two share several similarities - they have the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, Touch Plus controllers with inside-out tracking, and mixed reality passthrough - the Quest 3 features far superior optics. The Quest 3 adopts a new pancake lens design that's slimmer, has a higher resolution (30% more pixels), wider FOV display, and a bigger "sweet spot". The Quest 3 also starts with more storage. I own it myself (and I reviewed it for IGN) and have logged over a thousand hours in Beat Saber alone.

TL;DR:

  • Quest 3 has sharper resolution (2064x2208 vs 1832x1920)
  • Quest 3 has better lens array (pancake vs fresnel)
  • Quest 3 has wider FOV (104°/96° vs 96°/90°)
  • Quest 3 has higher storage capacity (512GB vs 128GB)
  • Same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor
  • Same Touch Plus controllers
  • Same 120Hz refresh rate
  • Same Mixed reality passthrough functionality
  • Same tetherless and tethered functionality

The Best Pokémon Deals For Every Kind of Trainer This Christmas

16 décembre 2025 à 02:30

If you're a Pokémon Trainer or have one in your life, today's Daily Deals is going to save you a small fortune. From the best Pokémon TCG bargains to a great deal on the Pokémon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, I've got you. You can also check out my more comprehensive list of the best Pokémon gifts for 2025 for more options than what I've listed here.

TL;DR: Top Pokémon Deals for Today

I've even taken the liberty of finding the best deals on the top chase cards for every Pokémon TCG expansion in the Mega Evolution and Scarlet & Violet eras, so you can pick up some awesome chase cards instead of busting a bag full of Pokédollars on booster packs. I even found some awesome Pokémon Squishmallow deals to boot, so let's get straight into it:

Pokémon TCG Single Card Price Crash

Pokémon TCG stock levels are getting better and better across the board, which means there's more chance of buying off store shelves and a much bigger chance of scalpers losing out. It's a win-win, especially for Pokémon card collectors, as single cards are finding a new floor when it comes to market values.

It's the best time this year to snap up some of those grails you've been eyeing up, so I've found the top 5 chase cards in every Pokémon TCG expansion and base set from the previous Scarlet and Violet era, as well as Mega Evolution, the current era of Pokémon cards. There's some serious bargains to be had here, and I reckon we'll see prices tick back up when Ascended Heroes launches early next year, so don't wait around.

Best Pokémon TCG Sealed Deals

The best deal here for me is the Mega Charizard X ex Ultra Premium Collection that's currently at market value on Amazon and close to MSRP.

  • 4 x Phantasmal Flames
  • 4 x Mega Evolution
  • 4 x Destined Rivals
  • 4 x Journey Together
  • 2 x Surging Sparks

The main pull of this UPC is the Mega Charizard X ex Mega Attack Rare and Oricorio ex SIR promo cards, which, frankly, are the best couple of promo cards we've had in a big box collection for a while. It also contains Mega Charizard X-themed card sleeves, deck box, damage counter dice, playmat, and a metal coin.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A and More Deals

Need to get Pokémon Legends: Z-A sorted for Christmas? Here's the cheapest way: the Nintendo Switch 1 version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A for $44.99 on Woot, then upgrade it to the Switch 2 version for $9.99 via the Amazon digital code service. You're saving $15 over buying the usual Switch 2 copy of Legends: Z-A.

Woot also has more discounts on top Pokémon Switch games, such as Legends: Arceus alongside Scarlet and Violet. It's a great time to build up your library if you've got a few Pokémon-sized gaps on your shelf.

Pokémon Squishmallow Deals

Nothing beats cuddling a Squishmallow, and I'll admit that to anyone. Well, getting a $69.99 massive 20-inch Sprigatito Squishmallow for $37.99 definitely beats that feeling, but there's some great deals on the best Pokémon plushies right now (in my opinion, which is correct).

The Best Black Friday LG Evo C5 4K OLED TV Deals Are Back, Get a 65-Inch for Just $1,118

16 décembre 2025 à 02:20

Throughout Black Friday and Cyber Monday, eBay consistently had the lowest prices on all sizes of the LG Evo C5 4K OLED TV. The only problem was that they were out of stock for the majority of the time and all but disappeared after Cyber Monday ended. For a very limited time, they're back. eBay via Electronic Express has most sizes of the popular LG Evo C-series OLED TV on sale with an extra 20% off coupon code "HOLIDAYRUSH". Delivery is free, although there's no guarantee these TVs will arrive by December 25. LG is the best selling OLED TV brand globally for a simple reason. It's just that good.

LG Evo C5 4K OLED Smart TV Black Friday Deals Are Back

LG's OLED TVs have been our favorite TVs for console gaming for three years running thanks to their outstanding image quality, low input lag, and high refresh rate. The 2025 C5 uses LG's proprietary Evo panel, which is significantly brighter and offers a wider color gamut than traditional W-OLED TVs.

Aside from higher production costs, there's no downside to this technology; the C5 boasts the near-infinite black levels, near-infinite contrast ratio, and near-instantaneous response times you'd expect from any OLED TV. This is easily the best TV for streaming 4K HDR content in its intended glory.

The LG C5 has the necessary gaming features as well, including a native 120Hz panel that can be pushed to as high as 144Hz, HDMI 2.1 inputs for running PS5 games in 4K at up to 120fps, variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM). The C5 is also lightweight for its size because the rear cabinet housing is made of a composite fiber; for example, this 65" model weighs only 36 pounds without the stand, making it much easier to wall mount.

The Meta Quest 3S VR Headset Drops to Basically $199 With This Target Holiday Deal

16 décembre 2025 à 01:35

Give a gamer in your life the gift of immersive VR. Starting this week, Target has discounted the popular Meta Quest 3S 128GB VR headset down to $249.99 after $50 in instant savings. But that's not all. You also get a bonus $50 Target gift card that's automatically added to your cart. This ties the best deal I saw during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Thanks to Target's impressive network of warehouses and retail stores, you're very likely to get your order delivered by Christmas.

Update: The official Meta eBay Store has it for $212.49 with no gift card.

Meta Quest 3S for $249.99 Plus $50 Target Gift Card

Alternative Deal: Meta Quest 3S for $212.49

The Meta Quest 3S is the best standalone consumer-oriented VR headset under $300. It retails for 40% less than the Quest 3 and yet retains most of its hardware and functionality, including the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, Touch Plus controllers with inside-out tracking, and mixed reality passthrough. However, whereas the Quest 3 has been updated with a new pancake lens design, the Quest 3S retains the Fresnel optics of the Quest 2. Although obviously not as good as the Quest 3, the Quest 3S still very much offers an immersive visual experience that is sure to impress. I myself logged in hundreds of hours on the Quest 2 before I moved on to the Quest 3. For newcomers who want to try out VR gaming without investing tons of money, of for people who want to give this as a gift to someone who's never tried VR, I would recommend the Quest 3S over the Quest, especially at this price.

TL;DR:

  • Same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor
  • Same Touch Plus controllers
  • Same 120Hz refresh rate
  • Same Mixed reality passthrough functionality
  • Same tetherless and tethered functionality
  • Quest 3 has sharper resolution (2064x2208 vs 1832x1920)
  • Quest 3 has better lens array (pancake vs fresnel)
  • Quest 3 has wider FOV (104°/96° vs 96°/90°)
  • Quest 3 has higher storage capacity (512GB vs 128GB)

Amazon's Buy 1, Get 1 Half off Book Sale Is Back in Time for Last-Minute Christmas Gift Shopping

16 décembre 2025 à 01:30

Amazon has brought back its "Buy 2, Save 50% on 1" sale on books with just a little more than a week left before Christmas. If you haven't already picked up gifts for everyone on your list, this promotion is a great opportunity to do just that. It's that time of year where shipping times start to get wonky, so if you don't order things soon, you might not get everything delivered in time.

As for how the sale works, Amazon has this huge list of books that are included in the promotion. All you need to do is put two of the items in your cart and the cheapest one will automatically get the 50% discount at checkout. I'd recommend just checking out the full list for yourself and utilizing the search feature, but I've also pulled out some of the most popular inclusions if you'd prefer a more curated list.

Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off Books and Box Sets at Amazon

The most popular book in these sales every time I've covered them is Project Hail Mary. Andy Weir is the same author who wrote The Martian, but I think Project Hail Mary is his best work. It's also currently being made into a movie starring Ryan Gosling, so right now is a great time to give it a read if you want to get ahead of the film release.

The other popular book I'd recommend is Sunrise on the Reaping. Susanne Collins' latest Hunger Games prequel has been at the top of the best-selling charts since it was first released back in March and it's quite good. The plot goes back in time to when Haymitch was taking part in the games himself. The story was actually approved for a film adaptation well before the book was released. You can expect to see the movie in theaters starting on November 20, 2026.

If you're looking for great gift ideas for readers, I'd suggest checking out the deluxe illustrated Lord of the Rings book. It's an absolutely massive tome that includes illustrations from fantasy legend J.R.R himself. It's arguably the ultimate Lord of the Rings gift, and you can pair it with the deluxe illustrated version of The Silmarillion to take advantage of that 50% discount. Similarly, the Harry Potter interactive illustrated editions are also included in this sale, which I've actually purchased as a Harry Potter gift before.

I'd also recommend checking out some of the box sets included here. These are arguably the best deal in this type of sale because you're getting discounts on a full set rather than a single book. There's a ton of box sets included here, but I've pulled out a few of the more popular options. I'd suggest the leather-bound Game of Thrones books set for any fan of George R.R. Martins iconic series. It has all five of the books in a neat little set, which will only be outdated if Winds of Winter ever gets released. For younger kids, I'd suggest picking the Percy Jackson books I've listed here. Season 2 of the Disney+ series is currently running and the books are just flat out better.

AU Deals: A New Stack Of Multi Platform Game Deals Land With Some All-Stars Standouts

16 décembre 2025 à 01:23

If you've ever told yourself you were absolutely done buying games for the month, only to immediately ignore that promise, welcome. I have been there; hell, I'm right there now. Today's batch of bargains hits a rare sweet spot where nostalgia, sheer value, and genuinely excellent modern design all collide. Good luck resisting.

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I'm whisking some Yoshi eggs to make a 32nd birthday cake for Super Mario All-Stars. Back in the day, if you owned this cartridge and a SNES, you were livin' large and envied by all. Remakes of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3 awaited within, and they all had improved music, better game physics, and fancy parallax scrolling. That said, the most blessed feature of all was the simple option to save. No more leaving the console on for a week and getting yelled at by your electricity-conscious father for you!

Legit LEGO Deals

Just like I did last holiday season, I'm getting festive with the LEGO section. In Mathew Manor, my sons and I are again racing this year's batch of LEGO Advent Calendars. Basically, we open the City, Harry Potter, Minecraft, and Star Wars on the daily and compare the mini-prizes for "Awesomeness" and "Actual Xmas-ness". 2024's winner was the Lego Marvel one, but, weirdly, there's no 2025 equivalent. So it's anybody's race this year.

Here are the cheapest prices for the four calendars we're using. Score them yourself or just live vicariously through our unboxings.

10 Video Game Cookbooks That Bring Your Favorite In-Game Recipes to Life

16 décembre 2025 à 01:02

Video games and cooking go together more than you might think. Tons of RPGs and simulation games have some form of cooking mechanic or, at the very least, delicious-looking food. From the cozy familiarity of meals from Stardew Valley to fantastical feasts in The Witcher, I can personally say I've encountered tons of animated food I wish was real. Well, turns out it can be.

Gaming cookbooks offer an opportunity to learn unique recipes while immersing yourself in the lore of a world you love. Getting the materials you need might not be as fun as in-game adventuring or farming, but the end result is more than worth it. Whether you're passionate about a specific game, are looking for gift ideas for the gamer in your life, or just love some themed recipes, here's our list of the best gaming cookbooks in 2025.

Our Favorite Gaming Cookbooks in 2025

One of our top picks for gaming cookbooks is The Official Stardew Valley cookbook, which features 50 recipes written in the voice of various characters as well as some adorable art. The recipes are naturally based on the meals you can make in-game, including Pink Cake, Strange Buns, and even a full Autumn's Bounty to help you power through the mines.

A great gift to inspire young chefs (especially those who particularly enjoyed A Minecraft Movie), the Minecraft cookbook includes 40+ recipes inspired by the game's various mobs and biomes. The same goes for The Pokémon Cookbook, which focuses more on cute snacks and quick meals.

Outside of crafting-based games, themed cookbooks are also a great way to immerse yourself in fantasy worlds. The official Witcher cookbook takes inspiration from the games as well as The Witcher books, with 80 recipes covering everything from a refreshing drink to an exquisite banquet. The Elder Scrolls cookbook hones in on the world of Skyrim (as opposed to the rest of the Elder Scrolls games) while the Fallout cookbook is great for anyone who's particularly curious about the taste of Nuka-Cola ahead of Fallout season 2 episodes.

On the tabletop side of gaming, the Heroes' Feast Dungeons & Dragons cookbook is the crème de la crème for anyone trying to impress their party. Across the board, these cookbooks feature great recipes as well as interesting new bits of lore and art for dedicated fans.

New Video Game Cookbooks for 2025

The trend of gaming cookbooks isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Some of the newest gaming cookbooks of include one inspired by Pac-Man, which, to be completely honest, is a mystery to me, as well as Borderlands, presumably part of the promotions for Borderlands 4. As someone who's long been curious about Sojiro's curry from Persona 5, I'm particularly excited about the cookbook inspired by the Persona games.

When it comes to buying a Star Wars LEGO set, you’re absolutely spoiled for choice, with this last year alone bringing us incredibly popular builds like Jabba’s Barge and the TIE Interceptor. However, if you’re looking for a fun set to pick up without breaking into the much pricier line of UCS builds that LEGO dropped last year a great option is the Imperial Star Destroyer play set. Retailing at $159.99, it offers a full star destroyer with a buildable interior, as well as the very first official Cal Kestis mini-figure, making it a great choice for young and veteran LEGO fans alike.

The brick-built Star Wars Logo set looks great on shelves and home office setups, while the Grogu and Hover Pram set is positvely adorable. LEGO has plans to release new Star Wars sets in January 2026, but until then these are all great options. You can also check out our LEGO gift guide for 2025 for more great options.

When it comes to Star Wars novels, there are plenty of great choices out there, both from the current canon continuity and the non-canon Star Wars Legends books timeline. If you’re buying for a current fan wanting to keep up with the latest Star Wars lore though, there’s no better place to look than the High Republic series, which has been a key focus for Disney as they establish the latest new notch on the franchise’s timeline. If you’re gifting for a reader who’s new to the High Republic era, check out the High Republic: Light of the Jedi trilogy boxed set, which contains all three novels from the first phase of the series. If you don't mind placing a preorder, there's also a Revenge of the Sith deluxe edition that came out in October that's worth checking out as well as Star Wars: The Last Order which explores a post-Rise of the Skywalker universe.

For Comic Book Fans

Classic recommendations for Star Wars comics include the following (as found in our best Star Wars comics shopping list).

You can also pick up more recent seasons of the live-action Star Wars TV shows in 4K and Blu-ray. With Andor season 2 now available on Disney+ right now, picking up the first season in 4K is an excellent option.

Star Wars Gifts For Board Game Fans

For those on the hunt for a fun Star Wars board game, you can’t go wrong with Star Wars: Outer Rim. Casting you and three other players as intergalactic outlaws, your mission is to venture across the galaxy and strategically build your reputation by smuggling cargo, hunting bounties and meeting various iconic Star Wars characters. If you reckon your friends or family would jump at the chance to become a legendary scoundrel, Outer Rim is a safe bet. But it’s far from the only option on offer, with other great board games like Star Wars Rebellion and Star Wars Imperial Assault sure to bring hours of intergalactic entertainment.

Gifts for Puzzlers

If you or someone you know just so happens to be a chronic puzzler on top of being a Star Wars fan, there are quite a few options. Our overall top pick for the best Star Wars puzzle for adults is this 2,000-piece jigsaw we've featured above. It depicts numerous different characters from episodes 1-6 along with a variety of machines, ships, and the Death Star looming in the background. It is a pretty big puzzle, however, so you may want to be sure whoever you're giving it to has a decent puzzle table or board that can hold it.

Alongside this puzzle, there are quite a few other options. There are even model kits that act as 3D puzzles you can check out,

Apparel and Accessory Gifts

If you’re looking for clothing-related gifts, Star Wars has a nigh-on endless range of wearable merch that make for great presents. Gifts for Toy Collectors

There are a lot of different Star Wars toys you can buy. There are lightsaber replicas, plushies, and even Nerf blasters. But if you're a collector of Star Wars toys, then you're probably most interested in Star Wars action figures. Our overall top pick is from the Black Series line of toys, but there are quite a few other great options from other brands to check out as well. There are even new Jedi: Survivor figures that were just recently announced for fans of the video game series.

Destiny 2: Renegades Review

15 décembre 2025 à 22:45

Destiny has always been the “we’ve got Star Wars at home” looter shooter, and with Destiny 2: Renegades, Bungie has decided to lean into that directly with a crossover expansion. Weirdly enough, that decision has worked out for the most part! Renegades doesn’t solve many of Destiny 2’s longstanding issues, including the fact that it’s been awkwardly spinning its wheels for over a year now (reminiscent of the MCU post-Endgame), but embracing the cheesiness and over-the-top drama of Star Wars is at the very least a surprisingly nice change of pace for what has otherwise become quite a predictable universe. Sure, the story is as corny and derivative as can be, and the new activity you’re encouraged to grind repeatedly starts to feel thin before that tale even concludes, but the few new mechanics, vehicles, and weapon types we do get are interesting enough, and the endgame activity is well-worth setting aside a few hours to run through. If you were waiting for a game-changing expansion to warrant diving back into Destiny 2, this isn’t it, but it’s not the worst way to pass your time if you’ve got a hankering for some looter shooter goodness or just love Star Wars.

If you’ve read any of my previous expansion reviews (of which there are a lot), then you’ll already know I am a weirdo Destiny fan who has stuck with this game through thick and thin – so it should mean something when I tell you that saying I am also a Star Wars fan would be such a massive understatement that I’m actually too embarrassed to elaborate further publicly. But even with my undying love of space wizards, I was initially mortified to learn Destiny 2 was planning a crossover with it. For me, it was the ultimate sign that Destiny was out of ideas, had gone “full Fortnite” in a way that seemed cheap and tacky, and was making one last desperation play during the slow death it’s been suffering for a number of years now. And, yeah, that all pretty much turned out to be true. But when I found myself watching two lightsaber-wielding foes square off in an epic cutscene while listening to the John Williams-esque music this expansion makes heavy use of, I’ll admit it won me over… at least a little.

Renegades does go out of its way to include every little Star Wars reference to a degree that can feel a bit forced – a crutch that’s continuously leaned upon in lieu of original ideas. For example, in the very first mission alone, you’ll find yourself trapped in a garbage compactor, rescuing someone from off-brand carbon freezing, and making a jump to lightspeed while a brooding, laser sword-wielding masked villain angrily watches you escape his grasp. It’s extremely on the nose stuff, and I was just as likely to experience a full-body cringe as I was to smile about it. But the complete “screw it” energy at play here as it full-throatedly embraces all the corniness and drama for which Star Wars is known does have a certain kind of refreshing charm that’s at least a distinct direction for Destiny 2. I’ve been complaining about this game feeling stale for at least five years now, so I’ve got to give Bungie a bit of credit for trying something new here.

Sadly, the neat Star Wars-inspired story is weighed down by quite a bit of added fat that presumably is there in hopes you won’t notice how short Renegades would be without it. In between the precious few story missions, you’ll be sent off to run the new Lawless Frontier activity (more on that later), which drip feeds little bits of info before the next real mission actually moves the plot forward. Many of the non-filler quests use the same maps as the Lawless Frontier as well, but they’re at least filled with more unique stuff to do, like one quest where you blow up what looks an awful lot like Jabba’s sail barge in front of what looks an awful lot like the sarlacc pit (also known as the Great Pit of Carkoon). To its credit, it does introduce some interesting characters like Aunor, who is basically just a Jedi Knight, and Dredgen Bael, our emotional red leather daddy Sith Lord, who spends all his time aura farming and making my wife squeal with alarming delight. The whole thing wraps up with a pretty satisfying ending, too, despite doing very little to move the actual overarching story in Destiny 2 forward at all.

The Lawless Frontier activity that Renegades repeatedly pushes you towards works like an extremely barebones extraction shooter. You and two others are dropped into one of three maps and directed towards a series of the typical combat-heavy chores for which Destiny is known, like carrying objects to a drop point while under fire or defending a zone while standing on a plate. Along the way, you collect loot boxes you then need to try and extract with before time runs out or you run out of the finite number of revives your team is given. And, of course, no extraction mode is complete without rival players being able to come in and ruin your day, which is accomplished via a solo invasion mode where you jump into someone else’s game and try to score a few kills to grab some quick loot.

The story is weighed down by added fat that Renegades would be quite short without.

The three map options are great, as each reworks an existing location within the Destiny universe to fit with the Star Wars theme. The icy Europa now looks a whole lot more like Hoth, with anti-aerial canons and frozen bunkers; Mars has been turned into the dune seas and canyons of Tatooine, but is sadly missing Banthas; And Venus has been transformed into a part-swampland, part-forest that plays off of Dagobah and Endor/Kashyyyk, respectively. For Star Wars fans of all stripes, seeing stuff like this is just rad, though it would have been nice if they’d put as much work into the baddies we’re fighting – aside from the Cabal wearing white Stormtrooper-adjacent armor, we’re basically just fighting the same handful of enemies we’ve been blasting for years.

As a non-invading player, Lawless Frontier is initially a strong game mode that gets less exciting each time you’re asked to do it (which is a whole lot). At first, the idea of killing loads of baddies in levels that are extremely enemy-dense and getting a whole lot of loot is pretty great, but once you’ve played each of the three maps and extraction scenarios a couple times, you’ll pretty quickly have these regions and all their secrets down to a science, leaving you to rinse and repeat the same handful of encounters ad nauseum – in other words, pretty typical Destiny stuff. It gets even worse when you realize that means you’re going to have to hear the same handful of conversations and one-liners so frequently that you’ll find yourself hearing them in your sleep. The good news is that the grind actually comes with some pretty stellar rewards this time, as I was able to get a whole bunch of cool stuff, like my first complete set of Tier 5 armor, after only a handful of hours grinding. If there were a bit more variety to the maps and encounters within Lawless Frontier, the grind to greater power and weapon rolls would have been a lot more enjoyable.

Helping break up the monotony though are Renegade Abilities, a new mechanic that lets you call in helpful support ordinances to assist you in battle. These could be things like a dome of healing light for you and your teammates or an airstrike that bombards the battlefield with explosions. As you level up your reputation by playing the Lawless Frontier, you’ll unlock new abilities along the way, including one that lets you summon a massive AT-ST-inspired mech called the Behemoth – a tool that can completely change the tide of battle during a high-level encounter. All of these are really nice, although they only work while in the Lawless Frontier extraction mode, and I’ll admit it made me pretty bummed out every time I was off doing something else like the story missions or the Dungeon activity and no longer had access to them. It’s probably too much to ask that something this powerful be available all the time, but it’s convinced me that we could use something similar to this across Destiny 2 more generally. After all, it’s sorta hard to go back to not having these cool toys after you’ve spent a dozen hours relying on them and leveling them up.

As for invading, as much as I had fun showing up and ruining other players’ games, the entire feature feels pretty out of place, as though it was only included because PvP is an obligatory element of an extraction shooter. When invading, it’s usually easy enough to score a few kills and make off with some quick loot, which is a really efficient way to gather gear, but it just feels wrong interrupting other players who are distracted with the mission before them and surrounded by NPC enemies.

And as the person being invaded, there’s not really any incentive to sweat it anyway – although you have a limited number of revives, you’re also given extra revives when you get invaded to offset any potential loss, which makes the stakes basically nonexistent. Sure, you can get a couple extra loot boxes by killing your invader, but it’s a pittance given how much loot this activity generates regardless. And since each match can only be invaded once, it’s extremely common for an unwelcome guest to appear early on, getting the PvP distraction out of the way right off the bat before proceeding with the actual extraction regardless of the outcome.

I had fun invading other players in Lawless Frontier, but the entire feature feels out of place.

If invaders were incentivized to kill players until their run fails, or the people being invaded were given something more substantial for successfully fending off their attacker, I could see this mechanic being extremely cool, but it mostly just feels tacked on right now. Don’t get me wrong – I still spent enough time invading others to earn my red lightsaber crystal, because I’m a terrible person, but the whole system could have been executed better.

Speaking of which: lightsabers! Yeah, those are in Destiny 2 now (though they’re called Praxic Blades), and they’re basically as cool as you’d think. You can throw them like Vader trying to decapitate his own son, use them to deflect incoming fire back at your enemies like you’re picking off clankers in the Clone Wars, or just get in close for good ol’ fashioned Kylo-Ren-sticking-it-to-dear-old-dad action. The quest to unlock your very own saber is also one of the best in the expansion, and a lot of the endgame in Renegades revolves around unlocking various saber colors or mods to make your laser sword even cooler. Are they hugely different from the swords that already existed in Destiny 2? No, not really. But they’re enough of a tweak to be interesting while also just being way cool. Hard for me to get mad about that!

Luckily the Praxic Blade isn’t the only fresh tool in your arsenal, as Renegades also introduces a new weapon type called Heat Weapons. The idea behind these is that they’re Star Wars blasters that don’t need to be reloaded, but generate heat that occasionally requires a cooldown. I hate reloading in games, so this is a nice option for the impatient among us, even if waiting for heat to dissipate is effectively the same thing. Either way, they’re an interesting new wrinkle to Destiny 2’s growing arsenal of weapons, plus they make cool Star Wars pew-pew blaster sounds when you shoot them, which I think is the real headline here.

Once you’ve completed the brief story and run enough Lawless Frontier to be sick of it, the final hurdle is the raid-lite activity called Equillibrium. It’s the endgame finale filled with challenging mechanics and beautiful setpieces you’d expect, and awards some absolutely awesome loot that I won’t spoil here. These so-called Dungeons are some of Destiny 2’s best content, and Equilibrium is certainly no exception, with the Star Wars flair adding a much-needed change in style and tone. The bosses, which include a dual-saber wielding ninja badass, are memorable and fun to figure out, and the enemy-dense areas and platforming sections were a joy to explore. It’s worth noting that the entire thing is pretty short, and can be comfortably beaten in under two hours without much issue (it felt a lot easier than some of the previous dungeon activities), but I don’t have many complaints overall – it was time well-spent and I’m likely to play it again with friends in pursuit of the unique loot.

Marathon Sets March 2026 Launch Window and $40 Price Point as Bungie Unveils New Gameplay

15 décembre 2025 à 22:19

Bungie’s delayed extraction shooter revival, Marathon, has re-emerged with an early 2026 launch window and a $39.99 price point.

The studio behind Halo and Destiny announced narrowed release plans for its next game as part of a new “Vision of Marathon” ViDoc upload to its YouTube channel today. It puts a lens up to its next project with a little less than 23 minutes of footage, showcasing the PvPvE FPS’s world and gameplay while doing its best to answer two major questions: How much will Marathon cost, and when is it coming out?

Bungie says its “target pricing” is currently $39.99, a price point that puts it on par with the recently released (and massively successful) extraction shooter from Embark Studios, Arc Raiders. Additional details on the Marathon package are hazy for now, with the PlayStation studio only telling buyers to expect access to all gameplay updates – including maps, Runner shells, events, and more – “as the year progresses.”

Bungie adds that reward passes will not expire, with players able to purchase past passes and earn their rewards at any time. Those worried about potential pay-to-win mechanics have been assured that they have nothing to fear, too.

"Finally, and most importantly, we believe in preserving competitive integrity in Marathon, so survival will never come down to how much money you spend," the studio said in a blog post today.

"We’ll share more about our plans for seasonal content, a roadmap, and details about when you’ll be able to try the game as we get closer to launch."

Bungie had previously set a Marathon release date of September 23, 2025, before what it called “strong and clear” feedback from players related to an April alpha test resulted in an indefinite delay. At the time, Sony laid out a plan to see the new extraction shooter launch before March 2026, with Bungie now doubling down on that plan today with a firmer March 2026 release window for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. The exact release date remains a mystery for now.

The Marathon ViDoc also includes loads of fresh gameplay showing how its dark sci-fi world will have players fighting tooth and nail to survive. Bungie wants Runners to feel the pressure when scavenging Tau Ceti IV, so it’s made changes to immerse players with realistic weather and updated environmental storytelling in a world it’s calling “dark, gritty, and grounded.” Other recent additions include proximity chat, a solo queue option, a Rook shell with a limited loadout, and increased visual fidelity and updated UI.

As Bungie shows off its progress, the video also serves as a much-needed side-by-side for players to see what has changed since feedback resulted in that hefty delay earlier this year. The studio says more updates will arrive in the coming months, telling players to expect the next update in January.

While we wait for that elusive Marathon release date, you can read about why Sony was willing to admit its live-service strategy wasn’t panning out as it had hoped. You can also learn about the fiasco revolving around uncredited artwork, which was recently resolved.

The Best Deals That Will Arrive By Christmas: AirPods Pro 3, Switch 2 Memory Card, Meta Quest, and More

15 décembre 2025 à 21:55

Holiday shoppers, there's still time. We're still in that peak window where you can reliably get your orders delivered before Christmas, often with free shipping. If you've missed out on the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals bonanza, don't fret. You still have opportunities to pick up some amazin gifts for the holidays and save a ton of money while you're at it. There are plenty of great deals on popular tech products like gaming handhelds, AirPods, video games, and more. In fact, most of these prices are lower than what I saw during Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen)

For anyone on a budget, this is the Apple Watch to get. The second-generation Apple Watch SE starts at just $129 only at Walmart. This is the best price I've for a brand-new Apple Watch with a warranty. The Apple Watch SE 2nd Gen is powered by the same S8 processor found in the Apple Watch Series 8 and the first-generation Apple Watch Ultra. It also features a bright and sharp OLED Retina display, IPX7 water resistance, fall detection, sleep tracking, Apple Pay, nearly all the fitness tracking functionality including heart rate monitoring, and more.

256GB Samsung P9 MicroSD Express Memory Card

Nintendo Switch 2 compatible

If you're a lucky owner of a brand new Nintendo Switch 2 console, you'll definitely want to pick up some extra storage. The Switch 2 only has 256GB of onboard storage, and chances are you'll probably need to expand it down the road. Amazon just lowered the price of the 256GB Samsung P9 MicroSD Express card, which will double your available storage, for just $32.99. As a comparison, the best previous deal I saw on a 256GB memory card was during Cyber Monday for $39.99. You don't have to worry about performance, either. We recently reviewed this exact card and strongly recommend it.

Buy Meta Quest 3, Get $100 Amazon Credit

Amazon just kicked off an excellent VR gaming deal for the holiday season. It's offering $100 in bonus Amazon digital credit when you purchase a Meta Quest 3 VR headset for $499.99 and apply coupon code "QUEST30". Order it now and you'll receive it before Christmas, even with the free shipping option for non-Prime members. The Meta Quest 3 is the best standalone consumer-oriented VR headset and is a significant upgrade compared to its cheaper Quest 3S sibling.

$50 Off Meta Quest 3S Plus $50 Target Gift Card

Is the Meta Quest 3 still too steep of a price point for your first entry to the world of VR gaming? Fortunately, Target is offering a fantastic deal on the less expensive Quest 3S while also offering free Christmas delivery. Target has discounted the Meta Quest 3S 128GB model to $249.99 (normally $300) and is also throwing in a bonus $50 Target gift card with purchase That's basically getting a Quest 3S headset for $199. You also get Gorilla Tag for free.

AirPods Pro 3 Earbuds

Amazon has once again lowered the price of the Apple AirPods Pro 3 earbuds to $219.99, the same price I saw during Black Friday. This would make a fantastic (albeit extremely generous) gift for any iOS user, even if that person already has an older generation AirPods Pro. The upgrades are more than just incremental this time around.

Steelseries Arctis Gamebuds

Ever consider replacing your gaming headset with a pair of earbuds? Just in time for the holidays, Steelseries has dropped the price of its blemished box Steelseries Arctis Gamebuds for PlayStation 5 or PC to $125.99 (normally $200 new) with coupon code "FROST10". Get free delivery before Christmas. This is lowest price I've seen for the best dedicated gaming earbuds of 2025, even beating out Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.

Xbox Ally Z2 A Windows Edition

The Xbox Ally was released just two months ago, with the AMD Ryzen Z2 A model retailing for $599.99. Just for the holiday season, Walmart has docked it down to $489 after a nearly 20% off instant discount. The Xbox Ally is based on the ROG Ally platform but with Microsoft's collaboration. Alongside the new Ryzen Z2 A CPU is a 7" 1080p panel with 120Hz refresh rate, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. This gaming handheld runs off Windows 11 with Xbox integration.

40% Off LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant 71426

Nintendo and LEGO fans rejoice, because one of our favorite sets just got a major discount ahead of the holidays. Amazon has lowered the price of the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant 71426 to just $35.99 after a 40% off instant discount. This happens to just barely clear the free shipping threshold for non-Prime members. The 18+ rating means that this set is relatively challenging, but I've built this one myself and I think it's a great set for builders of all ages. It would make a pretty amazing gift for the holidays and, unlike many new LEGO sets, won't cost an arm and a leg.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 SteelBook Cross-Gen Bundle for PS5

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 came out just a month ago and already there is an absolutely huge discount on it for the holiday season. Best Buy has the PlayStation Cross-Gen bundle, which includes both the PS4 edition and the enhanced PS5 edition, for just $39.99. Better yet, it even comes with a steelbook. Love it or hate it, BO7 is still one of the bigger releases of 2025. Seth Macy found the multiplayer component to be enjoyable, according to his review of the game.

Xbox Wireless Controller in Grinch Color

If you're planning to gift someone an Xbox or PC gaming controller for the holidays, then look no further than the official Xbox wireless controller. The Electric Volt colorway is down to $39.99 with free delivery at Amazon (it's normally $65). Not only is this one of the best Xbox controllers at this price point, it's also one of the best PC gaming controllers.

Razer Wolverine Pro Wiress Controller for Playstation 5

In search of a pro-grade PlayStation 5 or PC controller but don't want to pony up close to $200 for the DualSense Edge. Check out the Razer Wolverine Pro wireless controller, which normally costs an eye watering $250, but is on sale today for just $99.99. This is a competitive focused controller built with a semi-Xbox style layout with asymmetrical joysticks, mechanical buttons, microswitch d-pad, and HyperTrigger trigger-stop switches. Keep in mind that it lacks any kind of haptic or rumble feedback, since, technically, that can mess up your precision game.

$20 Cordless Electric Air Duster for PC

Keeping a tidy desk doesn't have to be labor intensive or expensive. Compressed air canisters used to be the standard but nowadays there is a better way. Most electric air dusters under $50 on Amazon are pretty much identical, so I'd recommend just getting whichever one is least expensive.

For Black Friday, Amazon is offering the JVSCAM Cordless Rechargeable Electric Air Duster (Air Blower) for just $19.98 after coupon code "U6C8Z5P7". Although I've seen this deal in the past, it is usually reserved only for Amazon Prime members. During Black Friday, it's available for everyone.

Fantik S1 Ace Precision Electric Screwdriver Set

Walmart is offering a great deal on a wonderful gift idea for anyone who is constantly fiddling with small electronics, building PCs, or modding consoles and controllers. Right now you can get the Fantik S1 Ace 3.7V Precision Cordless Screwdriver for just $21.99. Walmart states the list price is $100, but I've generally seen it closer to $50. Nevertheless, this is still a great deal on a versatile product.

$250 Off Razer's Top-End Iskur V2 Gaming Chair

Razer just dropped the price on its highest end gaming chair. The Razer Iskur V2 is normally priced at $649.99, but right now you can pick it up for $399.99 with free delivery. This is a more premium product than the Iskur X because it has 6D lumbar (vs fixed lumbar), 4D armrests (vs 2D), high-performance PU leather upholstery, and included memory foam head pillow.

34" Alienware AW3423DWF QD OLED Gaming Monitor

Follow these instructions for the extra $50 off:

  • You'll need to create an account if you haven't already (don't worry, it's free)
  • Once you've logged in, click on "My Account" under your account name on the top right
  • Click on "Dell Rewards" in the far left panel
  • Copy the 10% off Alienware Monitors coupon code

During Black Friday, Dell lowered the price of its venerable 34" Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED gaming monitor from $900 to just $499.99 shipped. That was a new historical price low, but today there's a way to get it for even less - $449.99 to be exact. It does require a bit of legwork to get the extra discount, but everyone should be eligible. The AW3423DWF is one of Alienware's highest end gaming monitors, with a gorgeous QD OLED panel, WQHD resolution, and a respectable 165Hz refresh rate. Alienware OLED monitors also include a 3 year warranty that includes OLED burn-in protection.

Everyone's Playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Following Game Awards Sweep

15 décembre 2025 à 21:47

In the wake of an incredible run at The Game Awards last week, during which Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won a record-breaking nine awards and announced a free DLC out right now, a whole lot of people are purchasing and/or downloading the game to see what all the fuss is about.

This observation comes from multiple data sources, all of which are pointing to a sudden rush of players to Clair Obscur across platforms. On Steam, the game reached a peak over the weekend of 56,993 players, according to SteamDB. The numbers haven't been that high since June.

The game's popularity is reflecting in sales, as well. According to Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, sales of Clair Obscur have spiked since The Game Awards. They're up 76% on Steam, 21% on PS5, and 3% on Xbox (where it's available on Game Pass). Alinea's estimate is that this amounts to over 200,000 more copies sold in just a few days.

But returning players are also coming back. Mat Piscatella, senior director at Circana, said that "the percent of US active PS, XBX and US Steam players engaging with the game more than tripled by Dec 13th when compared to Dec 10th. US Steam showed the largest lift," in a Bluesky post. Piscatella affirmed that this was the highest total of players engaged on Steam since June 1, with Xbox in the US seeing its highest total since June 27, and PlayStation in the US since June 10th.

It's an incredible spike no matter how you look at it, reflecting both those playing for the first time as well as returning players giving the free DLC a shot. It's likely that its run of awards had something to do with this, especially since one of those awards was Game of the Year. It's gained so much attention that even French president Emmanuel Macron spoke up to congratulate developer Sandfall Interactive.

If you, like all these other people, are just starting Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 this weekend, here at IGN we have a helpful Beginner Guide that you may find useful to read through as you start. You can also check in on our list of things Clair Obscur doesn't tell you, or our full Walkthrough in case you get stuck.

We at IGN also loved Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, giving it a 9/10 and writing: "Wearing its inspirations on its sleeve, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 paints itself into the pantheon of great RPGs with a brilliant combat system and a gripping, harrowing story."

Today Is the Last Day to Save Up to 25% Off Sonos Recertified Speakers and Get Free Christmas Delivery

15 décembre 2025 à 20:10

Haven't finished your holiday shopping? Your time's running out if you're looking to have your order arrive before December 25. Fortunately, Sonos kicked off a last minute holiday sale where you can score extra savings of up to 25% off select certified refurbished soundbars, speakers, and subs. You better hurry, though, because today is the last day for free Christmas delivery. Sonos refurbished products come like new, in pristine packaging with all the original accessories. They even come with the same one year warranty as a retail purchased product. If this is a gift for someone, that person probably won't ever realize that the item is anything but new.

Sonos Era 100 Smart Speaker

The Sonos Era 100 retails for $219 new, but you can pick up a certified refurbished model for just $134. This is Sonos' most popular and most versatile speaker. Despite its compact size, the Era 100 houses two tweeters, a mid-woofer, and three class-D digital amplifiers to produce precise, distortion-free audio even at high volumes. It has a built-in microphone for smart functionality. Because of its flexibility, it's often paired with a sound bar or a second Era speaker.

Sonos Arc Soundbar

Sonos doesn't discount its flagship Arc lineup of speakers very often, so it's a wise investment to jump on a good sale when you see one. The Sonos Arc was discontinued last year to make way for its successor, the Arc Ultra. The release of the Arc Ultra doesn't make the Arc any less of an outstanding speaker. It's a better value than picking up the Arc Ultra, currently not on sale for $1,100.

The 45" soundbar houses eleven precisely engineered internal speakers, including three tweeters and eight midwoofers each paired with Class-D amplifiers. It's capable of room filling audio by itself, but you'd still benefit from a separate subwoofer to round out the low end. Unlike the Sonos Beam, which only has virtual height channels, the Arc has two physical height channels for true Dolby Atmos support. The Arc also has a built-in microphone.

Sonos Beam (Gen 2) Soundbar

The Sonos Beam is a great option for someone who requires a more compact sound bar or simply doesn't want to spend too much money on a speaker system. It's attractively priced right now at just $299, so $100 less than the Arc. The Beam (Gen 2) is a 26-inch long, 5.0-channel soundbar with one tweeter and four mid-woofers for natural, balanced sound and four passive radiators to help with the low end. Although the Beam doesn't have physical height channels, it has two virtual height channels for Dolby Atmos support. There's also a built-in microphone for smart functionality.

Sonos Sub 3 Subwoofer

The audio savvy knows that a single speaker isn't enough to reproduce an entire soundstage. If you could pick only one other speaker to supplement your existing one, then a subwoofer would make the most meaningful impact. If you want to add ground-shaking bass to your Sonos setup, there's still nothing better than a separate standalone subwoofer. The Sub 3 boasts plenty of power in the form of dual inward-facing 5"x8" woofers and a ported design that allows for a louder and deeper low-end.

Why Sonos?

If you're looking for an easy solution to add great sound to your home, then you've probably already heard of Sonos. Sonos speakers are very easy to set up, don't take a large amount of space, and most importantly, offer distortion-free room-filling audio. They're definitely pricier than budget options, but the sound quality is comparable to speakers that cost hundreds more or take up much more space.

The Best Free VPNs for Your PC

15 décembre 2025 à 19:47

Although there’s no shortage of free VPNs for PC, very few can be trusted. Some of the many problems you’ll face using one include slow speeds, limited server locations, data caps, insufficient encryption, and extensive data logging. Needless to say, free VPNs aren’t suitable for more bandwidth-heavy tasks such as streaming or online gaming.

The good news is that there are still a handful of free VPNs for PC that avoid the many common pitfalls of free VPNs. I installed them on my Windows, MacOS, and Linux devices to assess their speed, server locations, security, and privacy policies, as well as their available features. Better still, all of the VPNs covered below are genuinely free as opposed to merely free trials (though they do also have paid plans with more features than the free versions).

TL;DR – These Are the Best Free VPNs for PC:

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a service that takes your internet traffic and routes it through an encrypted tunnel to a server in your preferred location. You’re provided with a different IP address, which allows you to browse the web anonymously. The ability to effectively change virtual locations also makes VPNs a popular choice with those who wish to bypass geo-blocks on content.

1. Proton VPN

Best Free VPN for PC

Proton VPN is able to provide its free tier thanks to its many paid users. What puts Proton VPN at the top of the free VPN pack is its unlimited data allowance and the fact that it doesn’t impose any speed limits. You won’t have access to as many servers as the paid plan, but there’s still five countries offered: the U.S., Netherlands, Japan, Romania, and Poland. The trouble is that you won’t be able to choose which country you connect to, instead being automatically connected to the fastest available server.

The speed of Proton VPN’s free servers is pretty impressive and exceeds that of most free VPNs. You’ll benefit from a high level of encryption and protection from DNS and IPv6 leaks. Unlike many rival VPNs, Proton VPN operates a true, independently audited no-logs policy. Just keep in mind that with this free tier, you’ll only be able to use it on one device at a time.

2. Hide.me

Best Free VPN With No Signup

Hide.me has a free plan with a lot to like. Like Proton VPN, there’s no speed limits or data limits in sight, yet one key difference is that you don’t have to sign up for an account to use Hide.me’s free tier. Luckily, there aren’t any caveats to this either, be it ads or data logging. At the time of writing, there are seven different server locations available – Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, the UK, and the U.S. – which is more than most free VPNs provide.

Not all free VPN apps are easy to use, but Hide.me has a clean and simple interface. It’s good to see that users on Hide.me’s free tier have the same protection as paid users: 256-bit AES encryption, DNS leak protection, and a kill switch. What’s even more impressive is that free users have access to split tunneling, allowing you to choose which apps use the VPN and which can bypass it. Having read through Hide.me’s, I’m pleased to find that there’s no logs either.

3. Windscribe

Best Free VPN for Features

Windscribe provides more free server locations than most free VPNs. Overall, it has 10 countries to choose from, including the U.S., Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, and Switzerland. What’s interesting about Windscribe is that you get a monthly data allowance of 10GB when you provide an email address (and 2GB without), and by posting about Windscribe’s service on X, you can get an extra 5GB of data.

Another reason to strongly consider Windscribe is that, unlike the other free VPNs for PC covered here, there’s absolutely no limit to the number of devices on which you can use it. The free tier of Windscribe includes all of the same features as the paid version. As such, you’ll have full access to ad blocking and split tunneling which is a lot of value at no cost. Windscribe doesn’t keep identifying logs, while data is secured with 256-bit AES or ChaCha20 encryption.

4. PrivadoVPN

Best Free VPN for Privacy

PrivadoVPN is a solid all-around free VPN for PC with free servers in 10 countries including the U.S., UK, and Canada. Particularly impressive is that you have four different cities to choose from in the U.S.: Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Washington, D.C. You can order the various options by latency, making it that much easier to find a fast server. Signup with an email address is required but once you’re done, you’ll have 10GB a month to play with.

The data limit means that it’s only suitable for basic browsing, but unlike some free VPNs, it doesn’t throttle your connection. As with most free VPNs, you can only use the PrivadoVPN’s free tier on one device. Yet that device benefits from 256-bit AES encryption and a kill switch which, should the VPN connection drop, cuts your traffic and prevents data exposure. PrivadoVPN is a no-logs VPN operating out of Switzerland, a country with strong privacy laws.

5. TunnelBear

Best Free VPN for Traveling

TunnelBear stands out for allowing free users to access its entire server network, which consists of more than 8,000 servers in 46 countries. The main downside is that you’ll only have 2GB of data each month. Fortunately, there’s no limit when it comes to server speeds. What’s more, you can use TunnelBear on as many devices as you like simultaneously.

Although TunnelBear is headquartered in Canada, a Five Eyes member, it operates a no-logs policy. It subjects itself to annual security audits, the results of which are published online. TunnelBear’s Windows app includes a kill switch and split tunneling. If you’re in a country with strict internet censorship, TunnelBear’s GhostBear feature disguises VPN traffic as regular web traffic to navigate restrictions.

What to Look for in a Free VPN for PC

The fact is that most free VPNs have a number of issues, some of which are too significant to overlook. This may be heavy bandwidth throttling or expensive logging of user data. Below are some of the key things to evaluate in a quality free VPN for PC.

  • Unlimited data: Very few VPNs offer unlimited data to free users. This means that in most cases, you’ll only have between 2-10GB of data which is extremely limiting, particularly if you want to use your VPN for streaming. Fortunately, I’ve found two rare exceptions in Proton VPN and Hide.me.
  • No speed limits: Bandwidth throttling is common with free VPNs. Often, this can make even basic browsing a challenge. This is not the case with the VPNs included here, all of which offer unlimited speed. You’ll still find them to be slower than their paid counterparts, though, due to the heavier user load on each free VPN server (though TunnelBear makes its entire server network available to free users).
  • No ads: Download a free VPN for your PC and there’s a chance you’ll be bombarded with ads. Of course, this is a way in which a free service is able to remain free. However, it’s not the only way (and it’s downright annoying!). For this reason, none of the free VPNs for PC I’ve recommended include ads.
  • Strong security: Some free VPNs may actually put your security at greater risk than not using a VPN at all. Weak encryption and outdated software can result in vulnerabilities and lead to data breaches. What’s more, some free VPNs even install adware or malware on your device. I only recommend VPNs with a high level of encryption, typically 256-bit AES.
  • Strict no-logs policy: Most people don’t, understandably, read what can be extremely long privacy policies. As a result, they don’t realize that some free VPNs keep extensive records of their data. This may include their actual IP address and the websites they visit. Such data can easily identify a user, compromising privacy in the process. It’s important to stick with VPNs that have no-logs policies with absolutely no logging of any identifying data.
  • Multiple server locations: The more locations a free VPN offers, the more likely it is that there’ll be one close to your location for a faster connection. A greater number of server locations increases flexibility when it comes to bypassing geographic restrictions on online content. TunnelBear lets its free users access its entire server network (across 45 countries) while our other selections offer multiple locations.
  • No signup required: Most VPNs, free or paid, require you to sign up for an account and provide an email address to access their services. One notable exception is Hide.me, which lets you access its servers anonymously.

How to Use a Free VPN for PC

Regardless of the VPN you choose, the process for getting set up and connected to a server is pretty much the same:

  1. Visit the website of the provider in question and select the free plan. In most cases, you’ll need to sign up for a free account.
  2. Download and install the Windows, Mac, or Linux app for your device by following the on-screen instructions provided.
  3. Open the VPN app and log in (or create an account if you haven’t already).
  4. You can now connect to a server in your preferred location.
  5. That’s it! Your connection is now secured.

Best Free VPN for PC FAQs

Are free VPNs safe to use?

Unfortunately, many free VPNs are not safe to use and pose genuine risks including malware. I’ve tested dozens of VPN services and identified the best free options, performing leak tests and fine-combing their privacy policies. That way, you know you can use them with absolute peace of mind.

What are the differences between free VPNs and paid VPNs?

Free VPNs tend to be far more limited than paid VPNs. Data, speed, and connection limits are all common. In most cases, you’ll have access to far fewer servers and features. Some free VPNs are adequate for basic browsing but for anything else (namely streaming or online gaming), you’ll almost certainly want a less restrictive, paid VPN subscription.

Can I use a free VPN for streaming?

You cannot use most free VPNs for streaming, at least not without contending with persistent performance issues. Although I’ve identified free VPNs that don’t throttle speeds, their servers aren’t optimized for streaming. Free VPN servers also attract plenty of users, which means they tend to experience too much load for seamless streaming.

How do free VPNs make money?

The answer to this question is really what separates quality free VPNs from the rest. Most free VPNs make money by spamming you with ads or, even worse, by logging and selling your data. The difference is that the best free PC VPNs have quality paid services that help support their free tiers. Of course, these plans are more limited, encouraging you to potentially upgrade in future.
