Worship: Be a Cult Leader in this Pikmin-Inspired Roguelike

15 juillet 2025 à 15:00

Bless me, An-Ansgaidh, for I have sinned. Not against the Herald of Annihilation. Never against my god. I have always carried out my duties, my service, faithfully. Like any good cultist in An-Ansgaidh’s service, I long to be free from the burden of flesh, the toil of our mortal existence. Being a writer is a life of confessions. Every drop of ink I put to page reveals a bit of myself, whether I want it to or not. But now I have the honor of spilling blood in the service of a great god in this Pikmin-esque cult builder. And I am enjoying myself, but I feel kinda bad about it.

My demo of Worship puts me in the robe of a cult leader sworn to An-Ansgaidh, Herald of Annihilation, the most compassionate of the Unseen Depth gods, who is determined to end our suffering by bringing an end to our pointless existence. Sick. My job is to gain An-Ansgaidh’s favor and expand Its cult. After playing a brief tutorial that gives me an overview of the controls and introduces me to a sassy and utterly deranged (in its own words, “charming a witty”) talking grimoire that serves as my guide, I’m dropped into a run in An-Ansgaidh’s service.

I don’t start with any cultists in my service, which is a bad look for a cult leader. Luckily, An-Ansgaidh starts me with some godless who just needs something to believe in. How do I convert them, you ask? I stab myself with a dagger and smear my blood across the ground to create sacred symbols. This whole thing is a ritual, you know. A circle to draw the godless within it to our cult. I press my hand to the blood-stained ground to activate its power. A square to summon the Execution Edict, a fraction of my god’s power so Its mighty hand might judge our enemies, and find them wanting. I press my hand to the blood-stained ground to activate its power. It awaits my command. I am patient. I am powerful.

Converting them to our unholy cause is simple as surrounding them with a circle.

But it does hurt to stab myself so much. I fret not over my hand (which is probably little more than a bloody pulp) but for my mortality. To drain my lifeblood across the ground for An-Ansgaidh is an honor, but it leaves me diminished, leaves me at the mercy of my enemies. All that to say: it literally drains my health, and I want to be freed from this mortal coil but in An-Ansgaidh’s time, not our enemies’. And we have so many enemies. The godless stand mute, unmoving, uncomprehending. They pose no threat. Converting them to our unholy cause is simple as surrounding them with a circle.

But I fear the others. No conversion will take hold of them. The behatted men with their rapiers that cut down my cultists like so much kindling, the black creatures who do not serve my god and spew bile at us. Once there are enough of us, they pose no threat. I raise my hand, mark what needs to die, and my cult descends upon them like locusts. I wonder if An-Ansgaidh, Herald of Annihilation, is a Pikmin fan. Probably not. Gods are not concerned with such trivial things as the Nintendo GameCube. But it reminds me of it all the same.

That is not to say our followers don’t die. Oh, they are resilient. They fall, dizzied, stars swirling about their heads, but they often rise before they are killed. But inevitably, some die, brought low before they can rise and recover. Early on in our ventures, I learned to avoid our enemies. I searched instead for the godless, converted them to our cult. It is only when I have overwhelming numbers that I challenge our foes, and they fall before An-Ansgaidh’s glory. Sometimes my followers perish. That is inevitable. But I try to keep them alive. A good cult is a strong cult, and a strong cult is made of many bodies.

They are pliable. I can pick them up by the throat and throw them to ring bells, or gut them and use their blood to perform rituals instead of my own. I have no problem throwing them at things. They’ll be a little concussed, maybe. But they’ll live. Once you use them as a resource, though, it’s lights out. Curtains. Game over. I don’t like killing the cultists. Partially because it leaves me with one less cultist, making my unholy army a little weaker. But partly because it doesn’t feel right. I brought them into this. It’s my job to keep them safe. They’re my children (religiously speaking) and my children (metaphorically speaking). They follow me around like little dogs. Besides, there’s no shortage of blood for me to absorb. I can call it back from a botched ritual where a circle too closely resembles a square, from my cultists who fall in battle, from fountains, plants, and even stones (yes, reader: blood from a stone).

I don’t like killing the cultists. Partially because it leaves me with one less cultist, making my unholy army a little weaker. But partly because it doesn’t feel right. I brought them into this.

When my cult kills our enemies, or some of our own fall in battle, I perform a tribute ritual, inserting an upside-down triangle into the center of a circle I draw around the corpses of the dead. My reward is a chest, which might contain anything from a relic I can offer at an altar to a blood fountain to a catalyst. I can order my cult to carry catalysts back to our base, and plant them in the ground to gain new spells and perks like the ability to throw farther. As the cult grows in power, so do I, though I am still at the mercy of the world and require their aid. I have spells, yes, but they take setup. The violence of a mass of bodies is quicker, more efficient. By myself, I am nothing. Weak. The cult makes me whole. So I go, converting the godless, building favor with An-Ansgaidh. I break down the statues of The Last Church. I send the dead as tribute. I cover the world in my blood. My grimoire offers advice.

I find followers in strange ways. I find a village stuck between worlds, in the middle of a half-completed rite because musicians played a song with instruments built from the bones of horrors, and it remains unfinished. I track them down, carry them back to their stage. The song they play is a bop. Much of Worship's visual and auditory language is incredible. Only evil things are black, colored inside white outlines. Everything else is white, outlined by black. It’s not subtle, but it’s effective.

Eventually, I gain enough favor to return to An-Ansgaidh victorious. It teleports my cult and I to The Last Church, something my grimoire blames for all of this earlier. I don’t understand until I get there and see a woman in white sitting next to a monster. They aren’t hurting anyone. The woman is singing. The monster sleeps with a little doll. Their names are Ulmira and Eleanor, respectively, and my god has commanded that they die.

So I go to work. Of the two, Ealnor is the larger threat, but I cannot hurt her. When my cult gets close, she stuns them, swipes at them, leaves several dead. When we run away, she shoots fire. Her doll, animated by magic, chases us across the screen. I dive out of the way; my cult follows. We move around the edges. “How do I do this?” I think. Then I discover that Ulmira is here, too. She can attack, but she is smaller and weaker. I set my cult on her and then the strangest thing happens. Eleanor comes to defend her, shielding her from harm. And this is how I win. I wait. I bide my time, until Ulmira is vulnerable. And then I set my cult on her, and Eleanor springs into action to save her, taking the damage herself. Dozens die. But in the end, I am victorious. Ulmira holds Eleanor in her arms as she dies. And then she breaks down in tears. This is where my demo ends.

There is no denying that Worship feels good to play. That its minimalist art style looks beautiful. That the music is gorgeous. That it forces you to play smart, to use every resource. But I like that the last thing it did was make me feel bad. I am a cult leader serving a dark god. I will do nothing good with the power I gain. Winning shouldn’t feel good. And I am glad Worship understands that.

Tokyo Gaming Mecca Akihabara Set to Lose Landmark Former Sega Arcade After 32 Years

15 juillet 2025 à 14:48

Genda Gigo Entertainment announced on July 15 that it will close the Akihabara Gigo 1 arcade at the end of August 2025. This was Sega’s flagship arcade and its red building has been a landmark of Tokyo’s electronics district for 32 years, as reported by IT Media.

Tokyo’s Akihabara, known for its anime, manga and game-related stores and plethora of tiny electronics shops, has been undergoing big changes in the last few years. Many of the smaller, niche shops where you could find everything from obscure bishojo titles to specific electronic parts are being replaced by more mainstream and tourist-orientated stores. Arcades in Japan have been hit hard over the past five years by factors such as the COVID pandemic restrictions and dwindling customers.

Located right outside Akihabara Station, the Akihabara Gigo 1 arcade first opened in 1992 as High Tech Land Sega Shintoku. It would later change its name to Club Sega Akihabara and then Sega Akihabara 1, but it remained the first of Sega’s five numbered arcades in the area, the bright red walls of the buildings making them hard to miss.

In 2020, Sega started to pull out of the arcade business, with Genda gradually buying up the shares. In 2022, Genda acquired the whole of Sega’s arcade and amusement business, renaming it Genda Gigo Entertainment. This was when all of Sega’s arcades in Japan got rebranded Gigo, but kept their iconic red walls and some of the Sega-related attractions.

However, according to the official announcement from Genda Gigo Entertainment, Akihabara Gigo 1 is closing down on August 31, 2025 because the fixed-term lease on the building has expired. If you are getting deja vu, that’s because this is not the first time such a fate has befallen former Sega arcades in the area. Sega Akihabara 4 briefly got rebranded by Gigo before being shut down by the company in 2022 as the fixed-term lease expired (source: Sora News). With both buildings being so close to a major station, it’s likely that the rental agreement was deemed too expensive to renew.

Ending its announcement of Akihabara Gigo 1’s closure on a positive note, Gigo reminded arcade fans that the company still has three remaining arcades in Akihabara. Also, the Akihabara Gigo building is set to be turned into a new amusement facility by Matahari Entertainment, which operates the Silk Hat chain of game centers. “Collaborating with Matahari Entertainment, we will contribute even further to the development of Akihabara and Japan’s pop culture,” Genda Gigo Entertainment stated.

As a side note, Sega will open Sega Store Tokyo this month. The company’s first official retail store in Japan will sell exclusive merch featuring Sega and Atlus characters.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Update 1.2 Quietly Closes the Door on Dark Brotherhood Lore Blunder

15 juillet 2025 à 14:29

Bethesda has quietly fixed a door in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered that had left Dark Brotherhood lore fans scratching their heads.

Warning! Potential spoilers for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered follow.

Let’s cast our minds back to April and the hugely successful release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Soon after launch, players of the original, much-loved open-world role-playing game noticed the door to the Dark Brotherhood’s Cheydinhal sanctuary entrance was inexplicably changed in a way that broke the lore.

The door in question is at the centre of an iconic moment in Oblivion, one players who took on the excellent Dark Brotherhood quest will probably remember well. In the original Oblivion, the glowing door has a heavy mood aesthetic and a relief showing the Night Mother (who members of the assassination-obsessed Dark Brotherhood worship) murdering five children. The Oblivion Remastered version of this door has no glow, is light on atmosphere and, weirdly, has two extra children.

You can see a comparison with accompanying complaint in the reddit post from alvaro-elite, below:

The Elder Scrolls lore fans were quick to point out that the addition of two kids on the relief makes no sense given what we know about the story of the Night Mother. This moment in time is meant to represent the Night Mother’s murdering of the five children she conceived with Sithis, the Elder Scrolls deity who represents emptiness and the Void. As the story goes, the Night Mother is murdered by the locals for killing her kids, which turns her into the immortal Night Mother in the first place. In fact, in Oblivion, the Night Mother’s tomb includes skeletal remains of one adult and five children, reinforcing this lore.

Fans had wondered whether Bethesda and developer Virtuos would patch Oblivion Remastered to change the door to be lore compliant, and so it has proved. As noticed by PC Gamer, with the recent release of Update 1.2 in Steam beta form, those who have opted in to test the patch now have a lore-compliant door with five children, rather than seven in the relief. Strangely, this change isn’t in the officially released patch notes, below.

The expectation is this new door is what Oblivion Remastered will include across the board when Update 1.2 launches fully.

Be sure to check out our comprehensive guide to everything you'll find in Oblivion Remastered, including an expansive Interactive Map, complete Walkthroughs for the Main Questline and every Guild Quest, How to Build the Perfect Character, Things to Do First, every PC Cheat Code, and much more.

The DCU's Supergirl Is 'A Total Mess,' James Gunn Says: 'She's Ended Up Different Than Her Cousin'

15 juillet 2025 à 14:09

The DC Universe version of Supergirl is “a total mess,” DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has said now Superman is out in the wild.

Warning! Spoilers for Superman follow:

If you’ve seen Superman you’ll know that Supergirl makes a cameo appearance at the end to pick up her troublesome dog, Krypto, who Kal-El has been babysitting. She’s drunk, much to Superman’s annoyance, and even calls her cousin a “bitch” as she stumbles out the Fortress of Solitude.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Gunn confirmed this is the version of Supergirl we will see in next year’s Supergirl movie, starring Milly Alcock in the title role of Kara Zor-El / Supergirl.

“Yeah, that's her,” he said. “She's a mess. She's a total mess.”

But why is she in this state? As revealed in Superman, Supergirl got drunk on a planet bathed in the light of a red sun (it’s impossible for Superman or any Kryptonian to get drunk on earth due to the empowering effects of our yellow sun).

But beyond this, clearly Supergirl is suffering from mental health issues that are driving her to drink, the result of a very different upbringing compared to her cousin’s.

“I mean, I think as we learn, she's had a completely different background from Superman,” Gunn continued. “A much more difficult background. He's had this wonderful upbringing by these two parents that loved him and were very healthy. And her background was much different than that. And she's ended up different than her cousin.”

The DCU Supergirl movie is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s comic, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. “In our story, we have Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents,” Gunn has explained. “Kara was on Krypton. She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and she lived there for the first 14 years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die. So, she’s a much harsher and more f*cked up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far.”

Recently, Gunn has called Supergirl a “space fantasy” — and said it will have a different tone than Superman. Expect Jason Momoa’s Lobo to star alongside Supergirl in the film. The question is, will Superman also appear?

For more, check out IGN’s article, Superman Introduces the Girl of Steel: Here's Why This Version of Supergirl Is So Different.

In the U.S., Superman got the DCU off to a flyer with a global weekend take of $217 million at the box office. Its $122 million domestic haul was enough to make it the biggest North American launch ever for a solo Superman film, not adjusted for inflation.

Square Enix Won't Allow Switch 2 Upgrade for Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, Warns That DLC is Locked to a Specific Platform

15 juillet 2025 à 14:01

While many Nintendo Switch 2 games offer upgrades from their Switch 1 counterparts, Square Enix's upcoming Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake won't be one of them.

In a lengthy Q&A, the publisher has now confirmed there will be "no upgrade path" between the version of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake for Switch 1, and the entirely separate but otherwise near-identical version of the same game for Switch 2.

Of course, the Switch 1 version of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is playable on Switch 2 via the newer console's backwards compatibility, but this version will not take advantage of the graphical upgrades found in the Switch 2-specific edition.

Additionally, both save files and download codes for in-game bonus items are also locked to the specific versions of the game. So, even if you did start playing on Switch 1 and then decide to later fully re-purchase the Switch 2 edition, you'd need to start your playthrough again from scratch.

Curiously, the only Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake item that does seem to be cross-compatible is a save data bonus for an in-game Dog Suit (in Dragon Quest 1) and Cat Suit (in Dragon Quest 2). These will unlock if you buy a Switch 2 version of the game, if you previously unlocked them with a Switch 1 copy.

"Each version has different graphical specifications based on the hardware's processing capabilities," Square Enix wrote of the remake's differences on Switch 2. "However, there are no differences in the story, game content, or in which items can be obtained."

The publisher has given no reason why the two versions of the game remain separate, without a $10 paid-for upgrade option (as with similar third-party Switch 2 games such as Hogwarts Legacy and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds) or the situation, as found by fans with many other Switch 1 games, where some titles simply run better on Nintendo's newer hardware.

Square Enix is set to launch its Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake on October 30, 2025, for PC (via Steam and Microsoft Store), PS5, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. Just remember to be careful which version you're buying

"In a way, Dragon Quest’s, let’s say 'classic' storyline and trope-ish setting is easier to appreciate today than maybe a decade ago," IGN wrote in our Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake preview. "Nowadays, with graphics as advanced as they are and storylines trying to compete with the biggest movies and TV shows, Dragon Quest is a reminder that some stories are timeless for a reason."

Ready Or Not Developer VOID Interactive Proceeds With Controversial 'Censor' Changes To Satisfy Console Makers Despite Fan Blacklash — Here's The Full Patch Notes

15 juillet 2025 à 13:54

VOID Interactive has proceeded with changes introduced to controversial shooter Ready or Not despite widespread condemnation from fans who believe the developer is "censoring" the game's gore and violence by "appeasing console market regulators."

"The free Los Sueños Stories update is releasing now!" VOID announced, listing bugfixes, new weapons, new missions, a new difficulty system, animation changes, and audio overhauls on Steam. As detailed in the "Character Art" section pertaining to base game update changes, the update says, "Added clothing to a character in A Lethal Obsession, Narcos, and some characters in the mission Hide and Seek," evidencing it is pressing on with one of the more controversial changes, which was to cover up nudity.

Of the hundreds of comments left by players, many are unhappy VOID has gone ahead with the amendments. "Thank you for punishing the PC Community for the support we gave you guys all these years," said one. Another wrote: "So much misinformation here. Many games have all the elements VOID chose to remove. They could have easily allowed PC players to toggle the gritty elements. They chose not to do this because they are greedy, lazy developers who have sold out and simply didn’t want to put in any extra work for console money."

Many comments simply say "[COMMENT CENSORED]," and others question why VOID has included a toggle to permit players to choose to opt in/out of crossplay, but can't do that to let PC players choose to keep or hide graphic content (although VOID has previously explained that "maintaining multiple versions with different assets and mechanics" would "increase the likelihood of bugs").

Earlier this month, we reported that VOID said it had to adjust levels of gore, nudity, violence, and the "mistreatment of children" ahead of the July 15 console release. At the time, VOID insisted the changes were "small enough that most people here wouldn't notice if we didn't say anything," but it "wanted to be transparent" with its players. Players disagreed, and the news caused Ready or Not's Steam user review rating to plummet to "mostly negative" for recent reviews, although overall the review rating remains "very positive." Most of the negative reviews complain about "censorship."

VOID Interactive responded to player backlash, citing "misconceptions and misinformation" about the amendments, but it was not enough to curb player ire.

VOID Interactive parted ways with publisher Team17 one day after the developer shared it would have a school shooting level. Ready or Not was briefly hauled offline in 2022 after a takedown request was issued due to a trademark dispute. The issue related to a level that depicted a mass shooting at a nightclub called Prysm, which was released on the anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting.

Here's the full patch notes:

30th Anniversary PS5 Is Getting a Limited Restock in the UK

15 juillet 2025 à 13:24

For any keen fans who missed out on the 30th Anniversary PlayStation 5 are in luck, because the special 30th Anniversary PS5 Digital Edition Console, 30th Anniversary DualSense Wireless Controller, and 30th Anniversary PlayStation Portal have been announced for a limited restock, at PS Direct, launching on September 29.

Revealed in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post, preorders for all three items will be made available first to PlayStation Plus members on July 21 at 10AM BST. For non-PS Plus members, preorders for this 30th Anniversary console and accessory trio will be open to the general public on July 23 at 10AM BST.

Although the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro Console, the most valuable item of the whole range, since only 12300 units were made globally, is sadly not included in this restock. The same goes for the 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge Wireless Controller.

Shared by Wario64, the main PlayStation social accounts previously shared posts about a US 30th anniversary restock as well, but these only seem to be for the range’s DualSense Wireless Controller.

Whether this difference is down to logistics or resources available in each territory remains to be seen, but this makes the UK’s new batch of 30th Anniversary PS5s quite valuable.

For those in the UK wanting to get one, the digital 30th Anniversary PS5 also comes with a swappable disc drive cover if you’d still like to play physical games on it, but you will need to purchase the disc drive itself separately.

The PS5 disc drive isn’t always in stock, currently sold out at Amazon UK, but is available to buy right now at PS Direct and other retailers like Argos and Currys.

PlayStation UK has made sure to iterate that the quantities of the 30th Anniversary PS5, DualSense, and PlayStation Portal will be “highly limited”.

This likely means that, unless PlayStation have allocated a certain number of units to the ‘PS Plus member’ and ‘all players’ preorder windows, stock will run out before it can get to the latter.

With that, we’d recommend subscribing to PlayStation Plus in advance to give yourself the best chance of grabbing whichever of the 30th anniversary range you want to grab. The cheapest you can buy is one month of the Essential-tier plan for £6.99, or up to a year for £59.99 to save more and get added discounts, free monthly games, online multiplayer, and cloud storage.

2014 Dead Island 2 'Would Have Killed The Franchise' Says Former Exec — 'It Had Nothing To Do With What Made The Original Really Fun'

15 juillet 2025 à 12:36

A former head of communications at Dead Island 2 publisher Deep Silver has opened up about the "eight-year product delay" Dead Island 2 endured after early playtests reported "horrific feedback."

At the end of a Develop:Brighton talk as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Martin Wein — now at GameFlex Consultants — talked candidly about the sequel's troubled development, and how it was decided at a major milestone meeting with then-developer, Yager, that the game as it was then "sucked."

Dead Island 2 was revealed at E3 2014 but soon went quiet before "mutual differences" separated Yager from Deep Silver. It was then moved to Sumo Digital before being shifted again in 2019 to its final home of Dambuster Studios. A new trailer and gameplay video was released on December 6, 2022, during a Dead Island 2 Showcase that announced it was delayed once again, slipping 12 weeks to April 2023. It was the first proper look at the game fans had since it was re-revealed after years of troubled development in August 2022.

"I was working on that with the creative team, and we were mightily proud of that [trailer]," Wein said. "But then, about three to four weeks later, we had a major milestone with the development studio that was in charge at that time. And boy, that game sucked.

"It had nothing to do with what [made] the original Dead Island [...] really fun. So we commissioned a play test and got horrific feedback. And we sat down with the development team and said, 'Okay, what's the course of action?' And they said, 'Yeah, leave it with us.'"

But at the next touch-point, Wein said little had changed, with playtest feedback indicating the sequel was "not fun, not engaging, [and] does not feel like the Dead Island that I played."

"So at the end of the day, we had to take the game away from that external developer, find a new studio, and that put the game on a journey of… well, it was supposed to launch in 2015. When did it come out? 2023?

"Sometimes you have to make hard decisions," Wein added. "Because we could have, at that point, put out a sh*t game. It might have made some money, but it would have killed the franchise.

"I cannot really speak to the conversation between the production team and the development partner as I was not part of those, but as the developer wanted to pursue their vision rather than follow player feedback, the ultimate decision was made to part ways."

When it did finally release in 2023, IGN's Dead Island 2's review returned a 7/10. We said: "Dead Island 2 is a hilarious gore-fest and a competent zombie-slaying adventure, but lacks creativity outside of its great sense of humor."

Nintendo Switch 2 Owner Says Their Console Was Banned After Playing Legitimate Second-Hand Games Another User Had Copied

15 juillet 2025 à 12:31

A Switch 2 owner has warned fans to be careful when buying second-hand games, after their console was banned by Nintendo.

Since the Switch 2's launch, reports have surfaced of Nintendo's new anti-piracy tactics leaving users of the MIG Switch flash device with 'bricked' consoles — unable to access any online functionality, including numerous key console features such as the ability to download and play digital games.

But, amongst this, there have also been reports of innocent fans getting caught in Nintendo's crossfire — and the latest example of this is a user who says they received a similar console ban for playing legitimate physical games they had bought second-hand, from a prior owner who had apparently cloned them.

In a lengthy thread on reddit, Switch 2 owner dmanthey said their console was banned by Nintendo after loading up a selection of Switch 1 cartridges they had bought on Facebook Marketplace. But while the games were legitimate, they still triggered a console ban.

Discussing the matter with Nintendo's customer support, dmanthey realised they had unwittingly played games whose cartridges had previously been cloned onto a piracy-enabling device — such as a MIG Switch — whose licenses were now marked as pirated.

"Basically, a thief buys/rents a game. They make a copy for themselves using the MIG dumper," dmanthey summarised. "They resell the original game and keep a copy for themselves on their MIG. Then both of you get banned when the Switch 2 goes online. Only one of you has the carts, so that's the person that will be unbanned."

Thankfully, dmanthey says that the process of talking to Nintendo was straightforward, and their console was unbanned shortly after providing Nintendo a conversation of the seller behind the Facebook Marketplace listing, and a verification photo that showed were in possession of the legitimate cartridges now.

Seeing Nintendo act to unban the user is an interesting development, after other users previously reported being told that such bans were permanent.

"The amount of info they had is crazy," dmanthey said of his experience chatting with Nintendo. "They could see my ddwrt endpoints, the brand of my memory card, they even knew that I had an EVGA mouse and keyboard plugged into my Switch 2."

While a rare situation (for now), dmanthey raised the point that this matter will only become more common as more people purchase Switch 2 consoles, and more cloned second-hand games enter the used game market. Indeed, there has already been the suggestion among fans that word spreading of Nintendo banning Switch 2 consoles will only increase the rate of game pirates ditching copies of games they have cloned.

A similar situation came to light last month when a Switch 2 owner who bought a second-hand console at Target found the console had already been banned by Nintendo. That user said they wanted to share their story in order that others avoid a similar scenario.

IGN has previously contacted Nintendo to ask for more detail on the bans, but has not received a response.

Superman's Mid-Air Kiss With Lois Lane Sets Tongues Wagging in India After Censorship Sparks Online Backlash

15 juillet 2025 à 12:30

DCU film Superman is censored in India, where a "sensual visual" of the superhero kissing Lois Lane was cut in order to secure a release.

Superman’s mid-air kiss with Lois Lane, shown during pre-release trailers, was one of two kissing scenes cut for the Indian theatrical release, according to a report by Bollywood Hungama.

According to the report, this 33-second long “sensual visual,” spread across two scenes, was cut in order to secure a U/A 13+ certificate by the country’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Warning! Spoilers for Superman follow:

Superman’s mid-air kiss with Lois Lane occurs at the end of the movie as part of the celebratory roundup of events. Both characters are in a months-long relationship at this point.

Meanwhile, Bollywood Hungama reported that the CBFC asked the studio to delete an eight-second shot involving a “foul gesture.” It was replaced by a two-second shot. The shot was not detailed, but we can speculate that it was the scene in which Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) swats away the armed forces of Boravia with a wave of his Green Lantern hand, which at times gives the invading army the finger.

This isn’t the first time a movie was changed to appease the Indian authorities. In F1, Brad Pitt’s character does a fist bump in the Indian version instead of sending a middle finger to another character. Marvel muted five words in Thunderbolts* / The New Avengers, and two words were cut from Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

As you’d expect, the changes to Superman have sparked a backlash across social media. Here's a snippet of the reaction:

CBFC deletes 33-second-long ‘sensual visual’ in Superman.

FFS, it's a PG-13 rated SUPERMAN movie! This country sucks. https://t.co/WAw4upcaZF

— Madhu Menon (@madmanweb) July 10, 2025

CBFC would allow horrific scenes of violence and sexual assault in a U certified film that kids are freely allowed to watch, but won't allow consensual kissing in a U/A comic book movie that kids should watch under adult supervision. 🫩

You can have lewd double meaning jokes in Housefull 5.
Beheadings & gory violence in Jaat

But….

Superman kissing Lois Lane is where we draw the line

If this is true, this is RIDICULOUS!!! Some ridiculous crap happens every day. Every. Damn. Day.

Sure this is the least of our worries but is something done about anything else? There is some crap every day. Every. Damn. Day. https://t.co/Kwg7fKSe0M

In the U.S., Superman got the DCU off to a flyer with a global weekend take of $217 million at the box office. Its $122 million domestic haul was enough to make it the biggest North American launch ever for a solo Superman film, not adjusted for inflation.

Helldivers 2 Patch 01.003.200 Makes a Big Balance Change Among Others, Lets You Plant Your Flag in the Face of Your Enemy, and Lots of Fixes

15 juillet 2025 à 11:47

Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 updates continue with patch 01.003.200, which makes a big balance change and a number of fixes.

According to patch notes released by the developer, 01.003.200 reduces the time it takes for the Helldiver to regain control after ragdolling from 0.8 to 0.5 seconds.

This seemingly innocuous change will have big implications for how Helldivers 2 feels to play. It’s a game that leans heavily on its physics systems and the emergent gameplay that comes from them, and that includes being blasted around the map.

As any Helldivers 2 player will know, you spend a lot of time prone on the floor recovering after being smashed into a ragdolling status. There’s a panic that sets in as you slowly pick yourself up and dust yourself off while the forces of the Illuminate, the Automatons, and the Terminids continue their assault. Those precious few milliseconds may make all the difference, especially on harder difficulties.

Meanwhile, the flag can now be “proudly” planted directly into enemies — dead or alive — “ensuring the eternal colors of Super Earth are never tainted, only quenched by the blood of its foes.” So, if you want that Charger to be running around with your flag on its back, now you can make it happen.

There are a number of balance changes worth checking out in the patch notes below.

Things are hotting up in the world of Helldivers 2, with the PC and PS5 game set to become the first PlayStation Studios-published title ever on Xbox when it launches on Series X and S next month alongside crossplay.

Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 20.2.0 Available — Here Are the Patch Notes

15 juillet 2025 à 11:26

Nintendo has issued a fresh system software update for the Switch and Switch 2, bringing both consoles' firmware up to Version 20.2.0.

The latest firmware includes a number of bug fixes for both platforms, and according to trusted Nintendo dataminer OatmealDome also includes a fix for the backwards compatible Nintendo Switch version of Portal 2 — which now no longer crashes after updating.

Otherwise, patch notes provided by Nintendo mention issues with Parental Control settings and a crash when trying to find a fresh network connection.

Nintendo now updates Switch and Switch 2 firmware simulataneously, with the same version number now applicable to both. But the contents of each patch do vary slightly — details on both lie below in full.

Switch Ver. 20.2.0 (Released July 14, 2025)

  • Fixed an issue where Parental Control settings were not transferred from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2 in certain circumstances during a system transfer.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

Switch 2 Ver. 20.2.0 (Released July 14, 2025)

  • Fixed an issue where Parental Control settings were not transferred to Nintendo Switch 2 from Nintendo Switch in certain circumstances during a system transfer.
  • Fixed an issue where you could not proceed past “Searching for networks” in Internet Settings within System Settings.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

Yesterday, IGN reported on Nintendo's behind the scenes changes to guidelines for developers publishing games on its Nintendo Switch 2 eShop — for now, just within Asia — seemingly in an effort to slow the oft-criticized flood of low-effort “slop” content that’s been crowding out other games and frustrating users.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed it was ditching its Switch Game Vouchers scheme, which currently allows Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to buy Switch 1 games at a discount.
